Opis:
Background. Political changes in Poland resulted in the inclusion of health education to school as part of a teaching process, however it was introduced officially by the 1999 education reform. Physical education became an integral part of school curricula under the name of the “pro-health” educational path. The P.E. teacher has become one of the main organizers of the tasks related to health issues. The objective of this research was to collect information to what extent physical education classes, carried out at all school education levels, contributed to the development of health competencies of the students participating in this education reform project. Material and methods. The survey comprised 128 first-year university students of both sexes attending courses in either physical education or tourism and recreation. The research regarded the Kujawsko- Pomorskie and Pomorskie provinces. A survey method was applied, and the research tool utilized was a survey questionnaire. Results. According to the research findings the most significant input into health education was provided by a university and other sources of information. The most frequently indicated area of health education carried out in schools was physical education, whereas the smallest number of responders indicated emotional health. The issue of health at physical education classes was indicated by less than half of the responders. The most frequently indicated issues were education in personal hygiene, fair play attitude, and only a small percentage of the subjects were familiarized with the rules of toughening up. Conclusion. The possibilities that physical education may give as far as the development of all areas of health is concerned were not reflected in the respondents’ opinions

Despite the dominating and expansive role of the Internet, global reports on mass media still find television as the most popular source of information on health. The following paper is an attempt to systematize the knowledge concerning television broadcast dedicated to the subject of health and illness. The authors aimed to identify the benefits and limitations resulting from the use of the audiovisual means to convey information on health; diagnosing potential threats and explaining trends and possibilities of making use of the television to educate and improve health awareness of the viewers. A critical review of 47 papers published in Polish and international scientific journals in years 2010 – 2014 has been performed. They were categorized into 8 following sections: 1) health information in medical television series; 2) subject of health in reality television programmes and medical talk-shows; 3) health in television news programmes; 4) television and the issue of physical activity and nutrition; 5) television and selected stimulants (cigarettes/alcohol); 6) television and information about cancer and other diseases; 7) public service announcements concerning health/PSA; 8) television and health education/ edutainment. In the light of the conducted review, the television presents itself as a promising source of information on the topic of health and illness which, provided one maintains a cautious attitude as well as moderation, influences the level of knowledge of the viewers, identification of simple symptoms and constitutes an important source of education in terms of prevention and avoiding risk behaviours.

Purpose: This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of health education on adolescents' healthy lifestyle and health perceptions given an adolescent group. Materials and methods: The study's universe constitutes a total of 234 students attending the 9th grade of a high school. The study was constructed according to the single-group pre-test, quasi-experimental research model, in the 9th class in a high school. Data collection form, Adolescent lifestyle scale(ALS) and health perception scale were applied to the adolescents as a pre-test during the first phase of the study. The adolescents who were below the median score of ALS were accepted as the risk group and taken to the experimental group. Adolescents in the experimental group received a 6-week "Health Promotion Program" and a final test was given to the adolescents at the end of the training sessions. Descriptive statistics, Paired-t-test, independent-, and correlation were used in the evaluation of the data. Results: ALS total score was 94.52±9.53 before adolescents' health promotion education and 104.05±15.4 after education. The relationship between them was statistically significant(p<0.05). It was determined that the health perception of adolescents included in the study decreased after post-training total scores compared to the pre-training scores and that this relationship was statistically significant(p<0.05). Conclusion: Public health nurses may be recommended to develop healthy lifestyle behaviours by raising healthy adolescents by providing more adolescent education through school health services.

Material and Methods: The Matrix of ReflectivenessDevelopment, an original self-observation schedule, was applied as a research tool. 46 head teachers were examined. Results: The results show that the respondents look after their own health the least. Relaxation is something they associate with mental health, while physical health is not high on their list of priorities. Conclusions: The respondents mainly focus on professional and family lives. Very little focus is placed on reflectionand an integral approach to health. The analysis of research results highlights the challenges that education at each level, including health education, must face.

Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to explore and analyze three aspects of the relationship between general pedagogy and Health education. Two different doctoral dissertations on Health education, claimed to be written from different scientific positions (hermeneutic and positivistic), were analyzed from science--philosophical, knowledge-theoretical and methodological points of view. The analysis showed that none of the dissertations contained any deeper discussion on science-philosophical or knowledge-theoretical issues and that both of the dissertations were written mainly in the hermeneutic tradition. The reason for this is probably that Health education, especially promotive Health education, handles divergent questions that seldom, or never, can be handled with positivistic methods. One consequence of this is that the results of research on promotive Health education rarely, or never, are normative and can tell how to teach about health in a specific educational situation. Instead the results can be used as a background for didactic reflection whey planning and realizing Health education initiatives. Another consequence is that the present trend with demand for evidence based Health education, can be questioned! Because promotive Health education is so heavily loaded with divergent questions, and because pedagogical research, according to Habermas, has an emancipatory or critical “knowledge interest”. Research can explain what is going on in one situation but not predict what will happen in a similar, but other situation! Therefore this paper argues that the idea of evidence based, promotive health education is hard, or impossible, to realize.

Effective health-oriented education in the area of sports and recreation events organization - is not a goal which is easy to achieve. The idea is certainly worthy of attention, since the benefits can be passed on to the organizer, sponsor and the entire society. The purpose of this paper is to present sports and recreation events as a means of promoting physical culture and health-oriented education. Motions, proposals, and preconditions (as described here) of effective educational intervention in the organization of events are based on 15-years-long secret (hidden) participatory observation of 141 different (in terms of their organizational specifics) street runs - both in Poland and in the neighbouring countries - Germany, Czech Republic and Slovakia. Sports and recreation events can become an effective instrument of education for a healthy lifestyle only if they are widely available (easily accessible), if they draw media attention, are popular, cyclical (recurring), have a specific program and atmosphere. The organizers of events in the area of physical recreation should not encourage competition but rather educate for regular participation in health-oriented training, while active participation in sports and recreation event might fit in the pre-planned health capacity control. For sports and recreation events to become a carrier of socially desirable values such as health or healthy lifestyle, promoters should intentionally put emphasis on these values and place them above commercial or marketing strategies of sponsors.

Preparation of students for adult life also includes the area of health care. Health education is part of the core curriculum of Polish schools. The leading role of the health educator is assumed by the physical education teacher, but many other educational tasks are carried out by all school staff. The present study attempts to answer the question: How is health education implemented at school? The research project was carried out among students of various colleges in the city of Szczecin, Poland. At the same time, similar studies were conducted among students from other universities in other cities. The research method was a diagnostic survey, with the main assessment tool being the ‘Questionnaire for Assessment of Implementation of Physical Education at Secondary School’ by K. Górna-Łukasik. On the basis of the study results, an attempt was made to determine the forms and methods of work and the involvement of various types of teachers in health education. Relationships between students' opinions on the methods of implementing the curriculum content, fields of study and gender of physical education teachers were searched for. The study results demonstrate a low degree of implementation of these educational contents. The Polish school offers students few forms of preparation for taking care of their own health.

Based on health promotion programmes and strategies, it can be observed that the majority of the proposed measures should be aimed at preventive efforts taken before any health or epidemiological issues arise. It must be emphatically stressed that health awareness among the Poles is low, and, for this reason, lifestyle diseases, for instance, are often diagnosed at the later stages, when advanced changes have already started. This is also the reason why health education is of vital importance, especially in terms of improving health awareness. A short questionnaire entitled Health Consciousness in the Future Orientation Perspective has been prepared. This questionnaire can be applied as a screening tool to help identify individuals with low health awareness, and thus facilitate the practice of more effective educational activities. The questionnaire includes 18 items which focus on the three main areas: 1) the search for and application of health-related information, and the trend towards a healthy lifestyle and health vigilance; 2) the responsibility for taking care of one’s own health in the present and in future times; 3) the motivation to lead a healthy lifestyle as an individual tendency towards healthy behaviour, aimed at health problem prevention and health condition improvement. The reliability of the scale was determined on the basis of Cronbach’s alpha, in which the value of alpha was 0.874, and the values of the specific scales were I – 0.836, II – 0.838, III-0.601.
Ma on szansę podnieść skuteczność działań edukacyjnych.

The ‘Health Promoting School’ model provides a framework for school-based health promotion (HP) activities, which have become a major theme in the health and educational strategy in Europe. However, the issue of HP implementation is complex. The general purpose of this article is to report on the findings of a nationwide survey that examined the extent of HP implementation at schools in Poland. The research results presented in this paper are part of a broader research project which was conducted at the University of Silesia in Katowice (Poland) in cooperation with the University of Limerick (Ireland). The research was conducted by means of the questionnaire: “National Questionnaire on SPHE and Health Promoting Schools”, developed by the staff of the University of Limerick and adapted to Polish conditions. The questionnaires were sent to schools in Poland holding the National Health Promoting School (HPS) Certificate, one hundred and three of which were completed and returned and then analysed with respect to quantity and quality. Considering the theoretical assumptions of the idea analysed, the information obtained from the respondents describing health promotion at their schools was grouped into four categories: school environment; core curriculum and learning; partnership; policy and planning. It was determined that the work of these schools emphasises mostly two elements in building a health promoting school: the school environment along with core curriculum and learning, while the two other elements (partnership; policy and planning) are more poorly implemented.

The ‘Little Medic’ project has been carried out at Poznan University of Medical Sciences for six years. It enjoys great popularity. Every year, about 400 pupils from primary schools from Poznan and the surrounding area in the age of 6–12 participate in it. The study aims to present the organizational specificity of the ‘Little Medic’ project, and the opinions about it expressed by teachers participating in the project with their students. At the end of each academic year, teachers take part in an anonymous survey summarizing and assessing the project. The first part of the article presents the method of the ‘Little Medic’ project organization. In particular, it describes the elements distinguishing the project from other children’s universities in Poland. The second part presents the analysis of evaluation data collected during the six years of the project. Long experience in running classes for children as part of the ‘Little Medic’ project allows for conclusions about the usefulness and innovativeness of this form of lesson conduct, and the survey results confirm the high level of teachers’ satisfaction with the proposed way of organizing classes.

But if the existent structure of primary health care is used, favourable oral health habits and importance of oral health can be instilled in the children and their parents at a very early stage. Objective. To evaluate the effectiveness of Anganwadi workers (AWWs) in improving the oral hygiene of the preschool children through oral health education. Material and methods. 250 children in the age group of 2.5-6 years, were included in the study. The study was conducted in three phases over a period of 8 months which included a follow up of six months. Baseline oral health was determined using a questionnaire assessing the oral hygiene practices and DMFT Index, Plaque Index and Gingival Index. This was re-assessed after 6 months using the same questionnaire and indices. Statistical significance was fixed at p value Ł 0.05. Chi square and paired ‘t’ test were used to assess the difference in the variables after providing oral health education. Results. Out of 250 children, with mean age of 4.24 years, majority were girls (142, 56.8%). The use of fluoridated toothpaste among the study population significantly increased from 34.4% to 41.5% (p=0.001) with the intervention of oral health education (OHE). Decrease in consumption of sticky sugar, addition of sugar in the night-feeds and cleaning of teeth after night-feeds were also found to change significantly. Gingival index showed significant reduction after OHE (p=0.001). Conclusion. The study revealed that training of Anganwadi workers (AWWs) could be used to improve the oral health of the Anganwadi children. They represent an untapped source for delivering oral care to rural communities that otherwise have limited access.

Opis:
On the one hand the achievements of modern civilisation make life easier in almost every area of human functioning, on the other hand they can cause various difficulties – both in the physical health of the individual and their psychosocial functioning. This is reflected in contemporary literature on the subject and statistical data indicating an increase in the prevalence of health problems in the group of children and adolescents. Over the last hundred years, health ceased to be a negative category meaning only the state of absence of physical illness, and began to be treated in a processual and holistic way. Therefore, the emphasis has been shifted from medical interventions focused on the treatment of the already existing disease to activities focused on developing and strengthening health in the biopsychosocial dimension. The article addresses the issue of children's and adolescent's health in the context of changes that have occurred in understanding it, and consequently also in the area of activities undertaken for its benefit. The article points out the need for actions in the area of health promotion (including health education) which, having a long-term and systemic nature, should be an integral element of the education process. Thus, attention was drawn to the role of parents and teachers as persons responsible for shaping the health of the future generation.

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is a major public health problem in Nigeria, being one of the ten leading causes of hospital admissions and a leading cause of death in adults, especially among the economically productive age group. This paper critically examined the importance of health education towards the eradication and prevention of tuberculosis in Nigeria. It was reviewed and discussed under the following subheadings; Global burden of tuberculosis in Nigeria, concept, definition and etiology of tuberculosis Signs and symptoms of tuberculosis, diagnosis of tuberculosis, causative agent, modes of infection and incubation period, risk factors of pulmonary tuberculosis Dots and stop TB programmes in Nigeria Treatment and prevention of tuberculosis TB treatment strategies Dealing with treatment problems in Nigeria Stigmatization against Tuberculosis Patients Health education as a tool for achieving free tuberculosis country. Emphasis for Tb control has been placed on the development of improved vaccines, diagnostic and treatment courses but less on health education and awareness. Although the need for theses tools is indisputable, the obstacle facing the spread of TB go beyond technological. The findings of this study may stimulate health system policy makers, Government and non- governmental organizations, donor agencies amd other stakeholders in planning and designing health education intervention programmes on the control and eradication of tuberculosis. It therefore recommended that Government should implement health education as part of the DOTs, this will thus empower the tuberculosis patients on ways to live healthy, lifestyle, in doing this, they will recover fastly and prevent them from spreading the disease.

This study explored the barriers of implementing health education programs in Iranian rural communities. Objectives. A qualitative study with conventional content analysis approach was conducted. Applying purposeful sampling, 34 rural folks and health care providers were employed to participate in the study. Data were collected through individually, semi-structured interviews. Data analysis continued until data saturation, when no new theme or idea emerged. Material and methods. A qualitative study with conventional content analysis approach was conducted. Applying purposeful sampling, 34 rural folks and health care providers were employed to participate in the study. Data were collected through individually, semi- -structured interviews. Data analysis continued until data saturation, when no new theme or idea emerged. Results. Four themes, including “Ineffective teaching and learning processes”, “Lack of health educators’ motivation”, “Communication gaps”, and “Lack of resources and facilities for teaching and learning” emerged as the barriers of implementing health education programs in rural communities. Conclusions. Several executive and communicational problems were identified as the local-level obstacles of implementing health education programs in rural areas. Better understanding on the extensive range of health education barriers in rural areas may be helpful for rural health workers and stakeholders in designing and/or revisiting health education programs in rural communities.

The purpose of the article. The presented research aims to analyze the impact of health education on students' attitudes towards taking care of their health, the health of other people and the ability to create a healthy environment. The paper assumes that health education is provided in schools by the applicable law. The work presents an up-to-date perspective on the complex problem of how young people perceive health. Methodology. To verify the significance of the differences in the respondents' assessments, statistical methods (non-parametric tests) were used: the U-Mann-Whitney test and the Spearman rank correlation coefficient. The calculations were made using Statistica. The research sample included young people from upper secondary and general education schools. The author's questionnaire was used. The study was anonymous. Respondents completed the questionnaire voluntarily. The research was conducted between March and September 2023. Results of the research. The conducted empirical analyses and the results of the surveys allowed us to achieve the goal assumed in the introduction and confirmed that health education in secondary schools influences the shaping of students' attitudes towards taking care of their health and the health of the community in which they live. By implementing health education at school – according to the core curriculum – students' awareness and motivation to undertake activities to improve and maintain good health is increased. Additionally, practical skills are developed to help them use the acquired knowledge in everyday life, and pro-health attitudes are formed. Health promotion is, therefore, the key to improving the health of school children, preparing them for a healthy lifestyle and making informed choices about their health and the community in which they live.

Introduction and aim. Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common infection responsible for many cancers. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between the knowledge level of HPV and the health literacy of youth living in Türkiye. Material and methods. The study sample comprised 543 youth aged 18 and 30 living in Türkiye. The data were assessed with a questionnaire, the human papilloma virus knowledge scale (HPV-KS), and the health literacy scale (HLS) and the correlation between them. Results. 50.6% of the youth informed that they are aware of HPV, and 54% of the youth know about the transmission mode of HPV. It was determined that knowing HPV increased 1.839 times by being a woman, 1.949 times by being married, and 14.339 times by knowing STIs. The HPV-KS total score average of the youth was low at 14.26±7.04, and the total score average of HLS was high at 107.91±16.81. A positive and significant correlation was found between HPV-KS total score, all sub-factor scores, HLS total score, and all sub-factors total score (p<0.001). Conclusion. Information studies on HPV should be increased by taking advantage of the generality of health literacy.

This article presents selected factors conditioning the sense of coherence among university students. Results were obtained after analysis of statistical data collected in a group of 467 students. Antonovsky’s Sense of Coherence Questionnaire (SOC-29) was used in the research. The results obtained showed a predominance of a moderate level of the sense of coherence in the group of studied students. The study confirmed the existence of a dependency between the sense of coherence and the sex, year of study, and civil status of the studied persons. The other two variables, i.e., course of studies and declared level of religiosity, only showed certain tendencies. The results presented in this paper confirmed the need to shape coherence through education and socialization as a socially significant personal predisposition. The sense of coherence facilitates both self-reflection and self-development in the individual. Conclusions formulated on the basis of the obtained results point to the necessity of taking up a contemporary pedagogical challenge, which is health education. An additional recommendation is to enrich educational programs with activities the goal of which is to create a high sense of coherence in their recipients, which, by definition, should have pro-health consequences for a wide group of beneficiaries.

Objectives: The presented study explored health beliefs and experiences as well as health education needs of low-educated employees (LEEs) (incomplete primary, primary, lower secondary and basic vocational education) in comparison to those with higher education (secondary and tertiary education) in four European countries: Latvia, Poland, Slovenia and Spain. The main aim was to identify a specificity of low-educated employees (LEEs) by capturing their opinions, experiences, attitudes and needs concerning health education. Material and Methods: The sample consisted of 1691 individuals with the status of an employee (approximately 400 respondents in each of 4 countries participating in the project). The respondents were aged 25-54 (both the control group and the target group consisted in 1/3 of the following age groups: 25-34, 35-44 and 45-54). The respondents were interviewed during the years 2009 and 2010 with a structured questionnaire concerning their health, health behaviours as well as educational needs concerning health education. Results: The study revealed substantial differences in the attitudes of people from this group concerning methodology of health education. LEEs prefer more competitions and campaigns and less written educational materials in comparison to those with higher education. Additionally, they more often perceive a fee, longer time, necessity to take part in a knowledge test and a concern that their health will be checked as factors that can discourage them from taking part in a health training. On the other hand, LEEs can by encouraged to take part in such a training by a media broadcast concerning the event, snacks or lottery during the training, or financial incentives. Conclusions: The results of the study proved the need for specific health education guidelines to conduct health education for low-educated employees. These guidelines should take in account the sources of health education preferred by LEEs as well as the factors that can encourage/discourage their participation in trainings concerning health.

Post-transformacyjne pokolenie XXI w.
The post-transformation generation of 21st century is living in a world of rapid social, economic, cultural changes, the dynamics of which have an impact on their development and health. Rapid and accelerating transformation of everyday life extends to all institutions of social life, including the school. The consequences of the ongoing transformations are difficulties in adapting the young generation to the constantly changing, unstable reality. The changes taking place in every area of life indicate the need for educational and upbringing activities as part of the socialisation process of the young generation. The school, as an educational environment, is the place where both cultural and health-related patterns of behaviour are developed and perpetuated, with health promotion and health education being the overarching goal. This century has initiated “new” educational thinking, the aim of which is to change individual behaviour and social action. Achieving well-being in all areas of society requires conscious action to increase health potential and its perception – in the declarative and practical dimensions – as a priority value. The challenge for today’s education system is to develop the ability to make health-promoting choices. This is a task for health education, which should become an important task for the school and the teacher being at the centre of school health education.

Health is a highly appreciated and desired value. Therefore the issue of health has always been considered in scientific reflections. Also in contemporary times it occupies an important place both in the scientific discourse and in the general discussion. It may be implied that a human shows an increasing interest in health bearing in mind that it is, on the one hand, a basis of a happy life for a human and his development, and on the other hand, a factor in social potential development. Taking that into consideration, the issue of health should hold a central place in the reflection on contemporary education. The issue of health education is addressed in this study, focusing on its parenting dimension. Since it is assumed that mainly parents, by their example and taken action, play a fundamental role in this education. The article is a report from scientific research carried out among the female students of Faculty of Pedagogy of the University of Rzeszów. The aim of this research is to answer the question about the role of parents in their child’s health education.
Można wnioskować, iż człowiek w coraz większym zakresie przejawia zainteresowanie zdrowiem, pamiętając, iż z jednej strony stanowi ono fundament szczęśliwej egzystencji i rozwoju, z drugiej zaś jest czynnikiem rozwoju społecznego potencjału.
Attitudes to health presented in health behaviours of men reveal their beliefs and attitudes towards a variety of health-related values towards themselves and others and, what is important, expose lacks in health competencies. The aim of the article is to present some selected attitudes towards health in literature to show their positive and negative sides. Understanding attitudes towards human health is one of the ways of understanding and explaining the consequences of healthy and unhealthy behaviours towards oneself, others and the environment. The paper presents different attitudes towards health in a tabular and narrative form. It seems that they can be used to empirically verify the attitudes towards being healthy as a manifestation of health competency.

Four years ago, the curriculum of physical education was changed and the organisation of physical education classes was modified. Now, the basic curriculum of physical education is presented in the form of requirements that should be treated as personal development indicators. Connections between physical education classes and health-oriented education are clearly presented. However, as NIK’s recent audit shows, qualitative changes can hardly ever be observed. Physical education classes are held on the basis of outdated curriculums, and disregard the new didactical contents of the new basic curriculum. Moreover, the number of classes and the division into groups during classes do not comply with the legal requirements.

This small study conducted by an experienced First aid instructor and science educator sought to establish a baseline pilot study of what actions were observed and identified as injuries and subsequent first aid. A class of 29 four-year-old children were shown 8 nine inch tall Teddy Bears, dressed as World War I pilots. Each Teddy Bear with a simulated injury was shown by the researcher to the child and asked, what could be done to help each injured Teddy. Their responses were recorded by writing and analysed by a read and re-read process with a goal to establish the categories of the child’s rationale for their responses for reason of injuries and actions. A simple appropriate approach was then discussed with each child. The data indicated that children’s main solution to treatment was to ‘put on a bandaid’. The results showed that children had little comprehension of further treatment.

Background: The level of health literacy possessed by an individual (functional, communicative, critical) determines their ability to effectively self-manage a chronic disease. The aim of the study was to assess the level and functional, communicative, and critical determinants of health literacy in the group of chronically ill older adults. Material and Methods: The study was conducted on a representative sample of chronically ill people (N = 400) aged ≥65 years, living in Poland. Three levels of health literacy were measured on the basis of the Functional, Communicative and Critical Health Literacy scale (FCCHL), employed in Polish social research for the first time. Results: The conducted research showed that the average health literacy score of the surveyed older adults, measured on the basis of the FCCHL scale, was 2.81±0.71 (M±SD), whereas for the functional subscale of health literacy it was 3.06±0.58 (M±SD), for communicative health literacy it was 2.82±0.86 (M±SD), and for critical health literacy – 2.71±0.92 (M±SD). In terms of functional health literacy, the surveyed seniors most frequently reported problems with reading health-related information, resulting from the use of inadequate font size in information leaflets and brochures. Questions included in the subscale representing communicative health literacy revealed that the majority of the respondents understood the provided information about diseases, nevertheless they were reluctant to share thoughts about their health with other people. Within the framework of critical health literacy, one-third of the respondents did not search for any additional information, trusting that the information obtained was accurate and reliable. Conclusions: The surveyed elderly people rated worse their level of communicative and critical health literacy compared to the functional level. As a consequence of the low level of communicative and critical health literacy of the surveyed older adults, a certain deficit in their self-managing a disease entity is forecast.

In frame of the European Project CHANGE (Care of Health Advertising New Goals for Elderly people) the study of health behaviours regarding healthy nutrition and physical activity was conducted on patients in age of 60 and more covered with care of community nurses. Objectives: To assess association between physical activity and nutritional habits, stages of change of these behaviors among older patients and other psychosocial conditions regarding planning of health education intervention to change their health behaviours. Methods: 108 persons at age avg. 69.6 (SD 60–87) were interviewed by questionnaire (assessing the frequency of intake of particular food products, physical activity, motivation and stage of change these behaviors, satisfaction with physical condition and general wellbeing) by the trained community nurses. Results: Results showed sedentary style of life in most studied patients. Among physical activity the frequency of daily walking was the highest (69%), while 70% of older people did not exercise. In study group 42% were not aware of importance of physical activity for their health. But the awareness of importance of healthy nutrition was high, and about half of study group (48%) reported that they eat meals with reduced fat, and 80% eat high fiber food. The rules of healthy nutrition were not fully respected. Positive correlations were shown between intention to change, stage of change of health behavior and performance of physical activity and healthy eating. Those behaviors were positively related to well-being and satisfaction with physical condition. Conclusions: Health promotion programs for older patients should be planned in different way depending on their stage of change of health behaviors. There is a need to raise awareness of importance of physical activity, and to educate older patients about recommended types of exercises and recreation. In case of recommendations of healthy nutrition, the awareness is high and performance definitely more frequent, therefore health promotion programs should stimulate development of permanent social support to maintain change of these behaviors.

The aim of the article is to present the debate on the teaching and educational effectiveness of school trips, described in Lviv “Szkoła”, the oldest Galician educational magazine –, from the moment the periodical was founded in 1868 until Poland regained independence. In the pages of this magazine, the leading representatives of the teaching community of the time, often professionally active teachers, expressed their opinions on the subject, analysing both the possibilities and the risks related to a broader use of these forms of teaching work. They often put forward original proposals regarding formal issues of the organisation of trips and outings, also referring to their own experiences in this area. The debate was not free from polemics but a majority of its participants positively assessed trips as a means of physical, health, hygienic and aesthetic education of students. The trips were also recognised to be a perfect opportunity to conduct illustrative geography or history lessons, and to shape civic and patriotic attitudes.

Opis:
Health education is primarily the acquisition and implementation of knowledge, but also the desire to shape attitudes and behaviors that have a significant impact on the child's future and consequently its positive development and attitude in adulthood. Young people in adolescence often do not show too much care for their health, its protection and strengthening. Therefore, childhood and adolescence seem to be the optimal time for implementation through education of correct attitudes regarding this topic. During this period, pro-health or risky behaviors are shaped. Activities in the field of health education should be implemented independently and in conjunction with active pedagogical support, which should be provided to families in a situation identified each time, when parents provide the child with incorrect patterns, insufficiently meet the needs or insufficiently care for his emotional and reactionary sphere of development, and thus clearly pose a greater threat to the child's mental and social development. Also in situations where the educational impacts seem insufficient or erroneously erroneous and the child begins to take risky behaviors that significantly affect the quality of its functioning, health and safety.

Opis:
Skin cancers are a significant oncological problem in the twenty-first century. Global epidemiological studies show 2-fold increase in the incidence in each decade. One of the essential elements of prevention is public knowledge on the etiology of skin cancers. The aim of the study was to assess the attitudes and the demand for education on the prevention of skin cancers in open population. Material and methods. 106 people were enrolled in the study during social action “Festival of Health”. The vast majority of respondents were women from urban areas. The mean age of the respondents was 37,2. The method of diagnostic survey was used in the study and a questionnaire of interview was applied. The results were analyzed statistically by means of chi-square test. Results. The poorest knowledge about risk factors for skin cancers showed the respondents with the lowest level of education, while those with higher education were twice as likely to recognize self-inspection of the skin as a method of prevention in comparison with the respondents with vocational education. In turn, the latter most rarely paid attention to the necessity of self- inspection of the skin, use of protective filters and protection during sunny days. Other respondents showed a greater responsibility in the use of anticancer prevention. The respondents with at least high school education more often had knowledge that change in shape or color of pigmented mole on the skin can signal development of cancer. Conclusions: The study showed that the level of education is the most important factor differentiating the level of knowledge about the prevention of skin cancer. The frequency of consultations with a specialist in connection with the presence of alarming moles on the skin was not associated with gender and the level of education.

Opis:
Introduction: The dynamic development of society affects the health of the population. We often address civilization-related diseases affecting increasingly younger people. The lack of both a balanced diet and physical activity leads to hypertension and obesity. These diseases have a number of serious consequences. The aim of the study was to demonstrate the influence of an educational programme on the arterial pressure and body weight status of children between 10 and 12 years of age. Material and methods: The study (education program) involved 60 primary school pupils in grades 4-6, including 40 boys and 20 girls whose BMI and arterial blood pressure values differed, higher from the standard norms. Anthropometric measurements were made, i.e., height, body weight, blood pressure and blood biochemical tests. Then, the pupils were taken care of by a dietician and a trainer. Results: The problem is the small number of fruits and vegetables in the children’s diet, which is far below the recommended standards. In the study group, nearly 12% of the children had elevated TSH levels. Physical activity of the participants was low and was mostly limited to compulsory physical education lessons. According to the surveys carried out the girls were physically active much less frequently than the boys. Conclusions: The increase in the BMI index results in increased systolic pressure in children. An increase in TSH increases the value of diastolic pressure in 10- to 12-year-olds. Children eat too few fruits and vegetables per week compared to the established standards. The implementation of an educational programme in nutrition and physical activity affects the reduction of BMI in children with excess body weight.
Wstęp: Dynamiczny rozwój społeczeństwa wpływa na zdrowie ludności. Często odnosi się go do chorób cywilizacyjnych dotykających coraz młodszych ludzi. Materiał i metody: Badania przeprowadzono w latach 2014-2017. Wykonano pomiary antropometryczne, tj. wysokość i masę ciała, ciśnienie krwi i testy biochemiczne krwi. Następnie uczniowie rozpoczęli współpracę z dietetykiem i trenerem. Wzrost TSH zwiększa wartość ciśnienia rozkurczowego u 10- do 12-latków. Dzieci jedzą zbyt mało owoców i warzyw tygodniowo w porównaniu do ustalonych standardów. Realizacja programu edukacyjnego dotyczącego odżywiania i aktywności fizycznej wpływa na obniżenie BMI u dzieci z nadmierną masą ciała.

Opis:
Regardless of how the contemporary young generation is described, there is no doubt that their permanent connection to the Internet and an incredible expertise in using information and communication technologies are one of the features that define those who grow up at the present time. Such strong involvement in digital media entails a number of health and development consequences for children and teenagers. In order to minimize the potential risks and negative effects of new media, it is essential to take action aimed at increasing awareness in terms of positive and negative aspects of using digital devices as well as at gaining abilities to use them in a way that is the most optimal and favourable for health. Currently, this issue constitutes a great challenge for teachers, parents, and carers for whom implementing health-seeking attitudes and behaviours of the young generation may be, taking into consideration the attractiveness of electronic media and virtual world, an enormously difficult task.
