Opis:
A differentiable group is a group in the category of (reduced and nonreduced) differentiable spaces. Special cases are the rationals ℚ, Lie groups, formal groups over ℝ or ℂ; in general there is some mixture of those types, the general structure, however, is not yet completely determined. The following gives as a corollary a first essential answer. It is shown, more generally, that a locally compact topological transformation group, operating effectively on a differentiable space X (which satisfies some mild geometric property) is in fact a Lie group and operates differentiably on X. Special cases have already been known: X a manifold (Montgomery-Zippin), X a reduced (Kerner) or nonreduced (W. Kaup) complex space. The proof requires some analysis on arbitrary differentiable spaces. There one has for example in general no finitely generated ideals as in the case of complex spaces. As a corollary one obtains: The reduction of a locally compact differentiable group is a Lie group (by different methods also proved by Pasternak-Winiarski). It was already proved before that any differentiable group can be uniquely extended to a smallest locally compact differentiable group (as a dense subgroup). The study of the nonreduced parts of differentiable groups remains to be completed.

Evolution of that type of social dialogue provides a dramatic illustration of how the mechanisms of group interests conflict shaped the course of industrial restructuring. Experiences accumulated over the years of conducting sectoral social dialogue may now serve as a benchmark for regional modernization initiatives.

However, the results of a comparative law research allow to draw the conclusion that in a substantial number of legal systems the term “group insurance” is not to be found in normative acts. In the literature, multiple attempts were made to expound the legal nature of the group insurance contract. Still, there is no consensus as to the nature of the legal relationship arising from conclusion of a group insurance contract. The article concerns the proposal of normative regulation of group insurance contract.

Opis:
One of the key transformations South African universities have undergone in the past two decades is the increase of racial and ethnic diversity of their student bodies and academic staff. In this study, we seek to contribute to a better understanding of these transformation processes by presenting students’ narratives of how they experience the interracial integration of student residences. We first address the potential groupist and essential underpinnings of ethno-racial identifications by situating our categories of analysis in a social-constructivist framework, underlining the situational and processual character of identifying and establishing “groupness,” while simultaneously considering the obdurate quality habitualized ways of identifying may generate. We then present an overview of our sensitizing themes as they are discussed in the literature on race and ethnicity with a focus on South Africa and student experiences. Thirdly, the article introduces the reader to the institutional context of the case study, namely, the campus of the University of the Free State and its student residences. Based on focus group discussions and thematic analyses, we present our findings in the form of the cultural themes that are central to the students’ narrations of their experiences. These themes include the salience of racial and ethnic identifications, tolerant distance, confusion, fairness, neutrality, ethnolinguistic recognition, regional public arenas, rural-urban divides, as well as socio-economic divides.

The questionnaire included items aimed at finding out respondents’ opinions on the age composition of children in kindergarten classes. The research sample consisted of 234 female teachers. On the basis of results it can be stated that respondents preferred age-homogeneous groups in classes. However, those teaching age-heterogeneous classes saw more advantages of such division. Research results also showed that younger respondents preferred dividing children into age-homogeneous groups more than older respondents.

Every organization which offers products or services wishes to communicate with their customers in the most effective way. This kind of communication is based on proper selection of target groups which are identified in the process of market segmentation. Therefore, it is very important to ask the question to whom the message is to be directed and what kind of a message we want to convey. This article describes the selection criteria for target groups in the Centre of Competence for Novel Infrastructure of Workable Applications (C2NIWA) which is organized in the structures of the Gdansk University of Technology. It is a place that provides advanced IT platforms for the production of various types of applications. C2NIWA users have access to the most current knowledge in this field, advisory services, and tools to collaborate on IT projects. They needed to be divided into target groups and the communication methods were adapted to their specifics. The result of this process is the establishment of appropriate associations with the brand. The article presents the results of a short research showing what kind of associations were successfully built in one of the target groups by using a system of visual identification – the logo of the C2NIWA.

Polymer brushes containing epoxy groups were grafted onto a porous hollow-fiber membrane by radiation-induced graft polymerization of glycidyl methacrylate. N-Methylglucamino (NMG) groups for binding antimony(III) were introduced to the epoxy groups of the polymer brush using a range of reaction times. To determine the process of the introduction of NMG groups to the polymer brush, the water permeability through the membrane, the swelling ratio of the membrane, and the antimony(III) adsorptivity of the membrane were determined for different NMG conversion values of 0 - 76%. The water permeability and the swelling ratio indicated that the NMG groups reacted with the epoxy groups of the polymer brush on the outside of the base of the polymer first, and then with those inside the base of the polymer matrix. The molar ratio between the NMG groups and the antimony(III) adsorbed on the polymer brush was always 0.5, demonstrating that the NMG groups were introduced from the tail end of the polymer brush to the fixed end due to diffusion and reaction of the NMG groups along the polymer brush.

In these centuries-old rites, old Slavic pre-Christian customs are mixed with Christian celebrations. Our interest relates to a pagan custom performed in the time of Ottoman Macedonia in the19th century. Back then, the meeting of two such groups ended with bloodshed and the death of individuals caused by knives or sticks. The deceased were buried in the place where they were killed, thus there are rusalia, babar or jamalar graves in several locations.

The paper focuses on the origins, organizational structure and operations of corporate groups in Russia and their role in the economy. Corporate groups began to emerge and develop in Russia in the early 1990s in the wake of the privatization of state-owned enterprises, the author says. Their development was influenced by the so-called “loans for shares” program and a financial crisis in 1998. Most of Russia’s corporations have developed through either vertical or horizontal integration, and they also emerged in the form of conglomerates. Most corporations operate in industries such as oil, gas, chemicals, petrochemicals, power, metallurgy, steel and machinery. Characteristically, there are specific financial and interpersonal ties between representatives of individual companies within each group, Fiedorczuk says. In most Russian corporate groups, the main owners are oligarchs, or wealthy businessmen with an extensive network of political connections. Corporations play an important role in Russia’s economic, political and social life, the author notes. But they are also under heavy pressure from the country’s political authorities. As in other developing countries, corporate groups in Russia outperform single businesses in terms of financial and economic indicators. Overall, corporations may be an optimal response to market and government failures in a process of economic transition, Fiedorczuk concludes.

This article examines how Facebook groups in Sweden, that focus on the environment, address issues of sustainability. The research, conducted over a one-year period (May 2019–April 2020) combines mapping analysis, which identified a population of 152 environment-focused Facebook groups, and quantitative content analysis, which gives the overview of how these groups represent sustainability and human-nature relations. The analysis pointed to an overwhelming support for counterhegemonic, ecocentric positions, coupled with a strong critique against the hegemony of anthropocentrism. These findings relate to the general discussion concerning the potential of social media to function as spaces where hegemonies are contested and the vision of social change, in this case about the environment, takes shape, but also to the limitations of such possibilities.

An age appropriate, research-based systematic program that teaches a flexible strategy for decoding multisyllabic words may be the foundation for increased reading abilities of middle school male and female students struggling with grade level text. To meet this need, the REWARDS reading program (Archer, Gleason, & Vachon, 2000) was used with struggling 6th grade readers with learning disabilities (LD). The quasi-experimental research design used in this study is non-randomized control group (n = 20), pretest posttest design. The Basic Reading Inventory along with DIBELS measure of reading fluency were the instruments used to calculate findings. In a five week period, students' decoding levels increased by 1.72 grade levels, instructional reading levels increased by 1.45 grade levels, while the reading fluency rates were increased by 28% at instructional reading levels and 17% at grade level. Decoding ability was highly correlated to reading comprehension with the relationship of .88.

The main purpose of this paper is to analyse the interdependence between labour productivity and the occupational structure of human capital in a spatial cross-section. Research indicates (see Fischer 2009) the possibility to assess the impact of the quality of human capital (measured by means of the level of education) on labour productivity in a spatial cross-section. This study attempts to thoroughly analyse the issue, assuming that apart from the level of education, the course of education (occupation) can also be a significant factor determining labour productivity in a spatial cross-section. The data used in this paper concerning labour force structure in major occupational groups in a regional cross-section comes from a Labour Force Survey. The data source specificity enables the assessment of labour force occupational specialisation at the regional level and the estimation of this specialisation at the subregional or county level. Opis:
Facebook groups enable their members access to diverse resources symbolic and material, scarce and free, exhaustible or renewable. Depending on the group’s objective, resources are co-used, gifted, bartered, swapped, freecycled or sold (bought) by users responding to the needs of others or satisfying their own needs. Based on posts collected through the Facebook’s Application Programming Interface (API), this study examines sharing of resources among Polish immigrants in Germany, Norway and United Kingdom, belonging to the public Facebook groups. Findings suggest that the most important resource shared by members of Polish immigrant groups on Facebook is job-related information. Moreover, Facebook groups appear to be a popular selling tool and less effective sharing space for Polish immigrants in Germany, Norway and UK. However, some sharing economy models such as freecycling, swapping and bartering are identified based on Facebook posts.
