Opis:

The generalized $k$-connectivity $ \kappa_k (G) $ of a graph $G$, mentioned by Hager in 1985, is a natural generalization of the path-version of the classical connectivity. As a natural counterpart of this concept, Li et al. in 2011 introduced the concept of generalized $k$-edge-connectivity which is defined as $ \lambda_k (G) = \text{min} \{ \lambda_G (S) | S \subseteq V (G) $ and $ |S| = k \} $, where $ \lambda_G (S) $ denote the maximum number $ \mathcal{l} $ of pairwise edge-disjoint trees $ T_1 $, $ T_2 $, . . ., $ T_\mathcal{l} $ in $G$ such that $S \subseteq V (T_i)$ for $ 1 \le i \le \mathcal{l} $. In this paper we get a sharp lower bound for the generalized 3-edge-connectivity of the strong product of any two connected graphs.

Opis:

In this article we analyze the generalized Mandelbrot set in higher-order hypercomplex number spaces following both the Cayley-Dickson construction algebraic spaces and the spaces defined by Clifford algebras. The particular case of the generalized 3D quasi-Mandelbrot set was also considered. In particular, we investigated the increase of power of the iterated variable and proved that when this power tends to infinity, the Mandelbrot set is convergent to the unit circle. The same is true for the generalized Mandelbrot sets in higher-dimensional hypercomplex number spaces, i.e. when the power of iterated variable tends to infinity, the generalized Mandelbrot set is convergent to the unit (n-1)- sphere. The results of our investigation were visualized for the generalized Mandelbrot set in a complex number space and the generalized quasi-Mandelbrot set in a 3D Euclidean space.

Opis:

The statistics of generalized F tests are quotients of linear combinations of independent chi-squares. Given a parameter, θ, for which we have a quadratic unbiased estimator, θ̃, the test statistic, for the hypothesis of nullity of that parameter, is the quotient of the positive part by the negative part of such estimator. Using generalized polar coordinates it is possible to obtain selective generalized F tests which are especially powerful for selected families of alternatives. We build both classes of tests for the orthogonal and associated mixed models. The associated models are obtained adding terms to the orthogonal models.

Opis:

We introduce and analyze a class of estimators for distribution parameters based on the relationship between the distribution function and the empirical distribution function. This class includes the nonlinear least squares estimator and the weighted nonlinear least squares estimator which has been used in parameter estimation for lifetime data (see e.g. [6, 8]) as well as the generalized nonlinear least squares estimator proposed in [3]. Sufficient conditions for consistency and asymptotic normality are given. Capability and limitations are illustrated by simulations.

For positive integers d and m, let $P_{d,m}(G)$ denote the property that between each pair of vertices of the graph G, there are m internally vertex disjoint paths of length at most d. For a positive integer t a graph G satisfies the minimum generalized degree condition δₜ(G) ≥ s if the cardinality of the union of the neighborhoods of each set of t vertices of G is at least s. Generalized degree conditions that ensure that $P_{d,m}(G)$ is satisfied have been investigated. In particular, it has been shown, for fixed positive integers t ≥ 5, d ≥ 5t², and m, that if an m-connected graph G of order n satisfies the generalized degree condition δₜ(G) > (t/(t+1))(5n/(d+2))+(m-1)d+3t², then for n sufficiently large G has property $P_{d,m}(G)$. In this note, this result will be improved by obtaining corresponding results on property $P_{d,m}(G)$ using a generalized degree condition δₜ(G), except that the restriction d ≥ 5t² will be replaced by the weaker restriction d ≥ max{5t+28,t+77}. Also, it will be shown, just as in the original result, that if the order of magnitude of δₜ(G) is decreased, then $P_{d,m}(G)$ will not, in general, hold; so the result is sharp in terms of the order of magnitude of δₜ(G).

The quasidifferential calculus developed by V.F. Demyanov and A.M. Rubinov provides a complete analogon to the classical calculus of differentiation for a wide class of nonsmooth functions. Although this looks at the first glance as a generalized subgradient calculus for pairs of subdifferentials it turns out that, after a more detailed analysis, the quasidifferential calculus is a kind of Fréchet-differentiation whose gradients are elements of a suitable Minkowski–Rådström–Hörmander space. One aim of the paper is to point out this fact. The main results in this direction are Theorem 1 and Theorem 5. Since the elements of the Minkowski–Rådström–Hörmander space are not uniquely determined, we focus our attention in the second part of the paper to smallest possible representations of quasidifferentials, i.e. to minimal representations. Here the main results are two necessary minimality criteria, which are stated in Theorem 9 and Theorem 11.

In this paper we study generalized weighted Besov type spaces on the Gegenbauer hypergroup. We give different characterizations of these spaces in terms of generalized convolution with a kind of smooth functions and by means of generalized translation operators. Also a discrete norm is given to obtain more general properties on these spaces. Obtained results are analogies of the results for generalized Bessel shifts obtained in the work [5].

Let $f(n, k, t)$ ($g(n, k, t)$, respectively) be the minimum size of a connected graph $G$ with order $n$ and $κ_k(G) = t$ ($λ_k(G) = t$, respectively), where $3 ≤ k ≤ n$ and \(1≤t≤n-⌈\frac{k}{2}⌉\). For general $k$ and $t$, Li and Mao obtained a lower bound for $g(n, k, t)$ which is tight for the case $k = 3$. We show that the bound also holds for $f(n, k, t)$ and is tight for the case $k = 3$. When t is general, we obtain upper bounds of both $f(n, k, t)$ and $g(n, k, t)$ for $k ∈ {3, 4, 5}$, and all of these bounds can be attained. When $k$ is general, we get an upper bound of $g(n, k, t)$ for $t ∈ {1, 2, 3, 4}$ and an upper bound of $f(n, k, t)$ for $t ∈ {1, 2, 3}$. Moreover, both bounds can be attained.

In this paper, we study the class of inflated modified power series distributions (IMPSD) where inflation occurs at any of support points. This class includes among others the generalized Poisson,the generalized negative binomial and the lost games distributions. We derive the Bayes estimators of parameters for these distributions when a parameter of inflation is known. First, we take as the prior distribution the uniform, Beta and Gamma distribution. In the second part of this paper, the prior distribution is the generalized Pareto distribution.

The concept of k-connectivity κ_k(G), introduced by Chartrand in 1984, is a generalization of the cut-version of the classical connectivity. For an integer k ≥ 2, the k-connectivity of a connected graph G with order n ≥ k is the smallest number of vertices whose removal from G produces a graph with at least k components or a graph with fewer than k vertices. In this paper, we get a sharp upper bound for the size of G with κ_k(G) = t, where 1 ≤ t ≤ n − k and k ≥ 3; moreover, the unique extremal graph is given. Based on this result, we get the exact values for the maximum size, denoted by g(n, k, t), of a connected graph G with order n and κ_k(G) = t. We also compute the exact values and bounds for another parameter f(n, k, t) which is defined as the minimum size of a connected graph G with order n and κ_k(G) = t, where 1 ≤ t ≤ n − k and k ≥ 3.

This paper investigates the use of Adaptive Generalized Predictive Control (TS-AGPC) for an activated sludge reactor, based on a Takagi Sugeno (TS) model, and presents the comparison between the latter and Generalized Predictive Control using an overall TS model (TS-GPC). The reduced bio-reactor Activated Sludge ASM1 Model, which describes the biological degradation of an activated sludge reactor, is designed based on several simplifications, as a TS model, its structure being based on a set of linear submodels, covering the process input-output space, interpolated by a nonlinear weighting function µ. The adaptive GPC approach is obtained by switching between linear submodels of the TS formulation. This is performed by selecting, in turns, a portion of the weighting function µ. The winning model will then act as an internal model for the TS-AGPC control law formulation, whereas the complete TS model is used in the calculation of the TS-GPC control law. Finally, the performance under input and parametric disturbances as well as control variable constraints of the TS-AGPC controller are compared to those for a global TS-GPC controller and a benchmark PID in terms of error and response dynamics.

Opis:

This paper proposes a generalized fractional controller for integer order systems with time delay. The fractional controller structure is so adopted to have a combined effect of fractional filter and Smith predictor. Interestingly, the resulting novel controller can be decomposed into fractional filter cascaded with an integer order PID controller. The method is applied to two practical examples i.e. liquid level system and Shell control fractionator system. The closed-loop responses resulting from the proposed method are compared with that of the available methods in the literature. For quantitative evaluations of the proposed method, Integral Absolute Error (IAE) and Integral Square Control Input (ISCI) performance criteria are employed. The proposed method effectively enhances the closed-loop response by improving the IAE values, reducing the control effort inputs to achieve the desired output. The disturbance rejection and robustness tests are also carried out. The robustness test reveals a significant improvement in the maximum absolute sensitivity measure. That is displayed in numerical simulations of the paper.

Aim/purpose – Exchange rate volatility has remained a serious issue affecting economic stability, especially in developing countries. Thus, this study aimed at examining the impact of exchange rate volatility on economic growth in Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach – The study employed the Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (GARCH) model and the system Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) technique to analyse the time series data from the period January 1980 to December 2017. The study used the Augmented Dickey–Fuller and Philips–Perron tests to determine the presence of a unit root and the Johansen co-integration test to establish the relationship among the variables in the study. Findings – The results of the estimates offer evidence that exchange rate volatility persists throughout the study period, and has a negative and significant effect on the economic growth of Nigeria. This result suggests that excessive volatility due to low inflows is inimical to the growth of the Nigeria economy. The findings of the study demonstrate a negative and significant relationship between inflation and economic growth. Moreover, while credit to the private sector and crude oil prices exerts positive and significant relationship with growth, the relationship between money supply, trade openness and government expenditure and economic growth is positive but insignificant. Research implications/limitations – Therefore, it is important for the government to pursue policies and programs that would help ensure exchange rate stability and boost local production for both consumption and export. In addition, a holistic program of economic reforms is important to complement the exchange rate policy and stimulate economic growth. Originality/value/contribution – The study shed some light on exchange rate volatility and confirmed its adverse effect and the importance of a stable environment on economic growth. In addition, the study introduced crude oil prices as a variable to the study of exchange rate volatility and economic growth from a developing country perspective.

We introduce a new class of generalized convex functions called the κ-convex functions, based on Korenblum's concept of κ-decreasing functions, where κ is an entropy (distortion) function. We study continuity and differentiability properties of these functions, and we discuss a special subclass which is a counterpart of the class of so-called d.c. functions. We characterize this subclass in terms of the space of functions of bounded second κ-variation, extending a result of F. Riesz. We also present a formal structural decomposition result for the κ-convex functions.

Let G₁ and G₂ be disjoint copies of a graph G, and let f:V(G₁) → V(G₂) be a function. Then a functigraph C(G,f) = (V,E) has the vertex set V = V(G₁) ∪ V(G₂) and the edge set E = E(G₁) ∪ E(G₂) ∪ {uv | u ∈ V(G₁), v ∈ V(G₂),v = f(u)}. A functigraph is a generalization of a permutation graph (also known as a generalized prism) in the sense of Chartrand and Harary. In this paper, we study domination in functigraphs. Let γ(G) denote the domination number of G. It is readily seen that γ(G) ≤ γ(C(G,f)) ≤ 2 γ(G). We investigate for graphs generally, and for cycles in great detail, the functions which achieve the upper and lower bounds, as well as the realization of the intermediate values.

We apply the generalized non-deterministic hypersubstitution to an algebra of type τ and obtain a class of derived algebras of type τ. The generalized non-deterministic hypersubstitutions can be also applied to sets of equations of type τ. We obtain two closure operators which turn out to be a conjugate pair of completely additive closure operators. This allows us to apply the theory of conjugate pairs of additive closure operators to characterize M-solid generalized non-deterministic varieties of algebras.

In this paper, we have considered the generalized Pareto distribution. Various structural properties of the distribution are derived including (quantile function, explicit expressions for moments, mean deviation, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves and Renyi entropy). We have provided simple explicit expressions and recurrence relations for single and product moments of generalized order statistics from the generalized Pareto distribution. The method of maximum likelihood is adopted for estimating the model parameters. For different parameter settings and sample sizes, the simulation studies are performed and compared to the performance of the generalized Pareto distribution.

The notion of the holomorph of a generalized Bol loop (GBL) is characterized afresh. The holomorph of a right inverse property loop (RIPL) is shown to be a GBL if and only if the loop is a GBL and some bijections of the loop are right (middle) regular. The holomorph of a RIPL is shown to be a GBL if and only if the loop is a GBL and some elements of the loop are right (middle) nuclear. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the holomorph of a RIPL to be a Bol loop are deduced. Some algebraic properties and commutative diagrams are established for a RIPL whose holomorph is a GBL.

Opis:

The article discusses the use of word sequences in text classification. As opposed to ngrams, word sequences are not of a fixed length and therefore allow the classifier to obtain flexibility necessary to operate on documents collected from various sources. Presented classifier is built upon the suffix tree structure which enables word sequences to take part in classification process. During classification, both single words and longer sequences are taken into account and have impact on the category assignment with respect to their frequency and length. The Suffix Tree Classifier and well known Naive Bayes Classifier are compared and their properties are discussed. Obtained results show that incorporating word sequences into text classification can increase accuracy and reveal some interesting relations between maximal length of used sequences and classifier's error rate.

The expressions for the elements of the on-axis and transverse generalized Stokes parameters of random electromagnetic quasi-homogeneous beams on propagation are presented and are used to study the polarization properties of the beams. Some typical numerical calculations of the on-axis and transverse Stokes parameters, polarization properties of the beams on propagation are illustrated. The results show that for different sources all the on-axis parameters are identical in the near field and keep fixed values in the far field. But the transverse parameters are affected greatly by the properties of the source even in the near field. We have also found that the spatial profiles of the transverse parameters remain unchanged upon propagation.

Generalized characteristic function games are a variation of characteristic function games, in which the value of a coalition depends not only on the identities of its members, but also on the order in which the coalition is formed. This class of games is a useful abstraction for a number of realistic settings and economic situations, such as modeling relationships in social networks. To date, two main extensions of the Shapley value have been proposed for generalized characteristic function games: the Nowak-Radzik value and the S´anchez-Berganti˜nos value. In this context, the present article studies generalized characteristic function games from the point of view of implementation and computation. Specifically, the article presents a non-cooperative mechanism that implements the Nowak-Radzik value in Subgame-Perfect Nash Equilibria in expectation.

The article highlights the particular importance of model discretization method in the practical implementation, as well as reviews estimation methods of the: amplitude, frequency, offset and phase angle of the periodic signal. Examples of simulation and experimental results are presented.

In this paper a concept of a generalized directional derivative, which satisfies Leibniz rule is proposed for locally Lipschitz functions, defined on an open subset of a Banach space. Although Leibniz rule is of less importance for a subdifferential calculus, it is of course of some theoretical interest to know about the existence of generalized directional derivatives which satisfy Leibniz rule. The proposed concept of generalized directional derivatives is adopted from the work of D. R. Sherbert (1964) who determined all point derivations for the Banach algebra of Lipschitz functions over a complete metric space.

In this paper we present the tools used in the modeling of distributions with fat tails in the theory of extreme values. We present three tools: the sample distribution function, the histograms for grouped data and the kernel densities. The latter is described in detail. The presented examples show the application of the kernel densities to modeling the generalized Pareto distributions.

We prove that any compact simply connected manifold carrying a structure of Riemannian 3- or 4-symmetric space is formal in the sense of Sullivan. This result generalizes Sullivan's classical theorem on the formality of symmetric spaces, but the proof is of a different nature, since for generalized symmetric spaces techniques based on the Hodge theory do not work. We use the Thomas theory of minimal models of fibrations and the classification of 3- and 4-symmetric spaces.

The presentation is a continuation of a paper at MSA’04 (T. Gerstenkorn, J. Gerstenkorn (2007)). In 1978 Ph. Smets proposed the so-called g-probability of a fuzzy event as a generalization of the L. Zadeh’s probability of 1968. In 1980 S. Heilpem also discusscd g-probability and analysed its properties. In 1992 Ph. Smets discussed once again the same his own problem and demonstrated its axiomatic properties. In this elaboration we desire to discuss the g-probability of the bifuzzy (intuitionistic) event and its properties as consistent with Kolmogoroff axiomatics.
Niniejsza prezentacja jest kontynuacją pracy pt. Probability of fuzzy event. Review of problems (Prawdopodobieństwo zdarzenia rozmytego. Przegląd zagadnień), przedstawionej na WAS'05 Acta Univ. Lodz., Folia Oeconomica 2007. W 1978 r. Philippe Smets zaproponował tzw. g-prawdopodobieństwo zdarzenia rozmytego jako pewne uogólnienie prawdopodobieństwa tegoż zdarzenia podanego Przez Lotfi Zadeha w 1968 r. W 1980 r. Stanisław Heilpem także rozważał g-prawdopodobieństwo i analizował jego własności. W 1982 r. Ph. Smets ponownie i szeroko rozpatrywał g-prawdopodobieństwo i dowodził jego aksjomatycznych własności. W przedstawianym opracowaniu pragniemy rozpatrzyć g-prawdopodobieństwo zdarzenia dwoistorozmytego (intuicjonistycznego) i jego własności jako zgodne z aksjomatyką Kołmogorowa.

In 1920 M. Greenwood and G. U. Yule presented a compound distribution Poisson-two-parameter gamma and gave some interesting applications of this compounding. In 1973 H. Jakuszenkow published a compound of the Poisson distribution with the generalized two-parameter gamma one. In 1982 T. Gerstenkorn demonstrated a compound binomialgeneralized beta distribution and in the limit procedure received a compound binomialgeneralized three-parameter gamma one. Now there is presented a limit property of that distribution when one of its parameters takes a special constant value, i.e. if we have a particular two-parameter generalized gamma, giving the theorem of Jakuszenkow.
W roku 1920 M. Greenwood i G. U. Yule przedstawili złożony rozkład Poisson - dwuparametrowy gamma i podali interesujące zastosowanie tego złożenia. W 1973 r. H. Jakuszenkow podała złożenie rozkładu Poissona z uogólnionym dwuparametrowym rozkładem gamma. W 1982 r. T. Gerstenkorn opublikował złożony rozkład dwumianowy z uogólnionym beta i w przejściu granicznym otrzymał złożony rozkład dwumianowy z uogólnionym trzyparametrowym gamma. Obecnie przedstawiona jest własność graniczna tegoż rozkładu, dająca twierdzenie H. Jakuszenkow, jeśli jeden z parametrów tego rozkładu a = 2, tzn. przy ograniczeniu się do szczególnego dwuparametrowego uogólnionego rozkładu gamma.

In this paper we present some results based on slightly modified idea of the \(\mathbb{I}\)-density introduced by Władysław Wilczyński. Some theorems are generalized versions of results from [2] and [3]. We investigate properties of functions from \(\mathbb{R}^X\), where \(X\) is supplied with the \(\mathbb{I}\)-density. We try to free our considerations from the assumption of Baire property, or measurability. In some cases this is not done yet. Star-marked statements still need that assumption, proofs presented here are done for Baire property, but it is possible to adapt them to measure. \(\mathbb{I}\)-density itself does not require any structure of considered space but a metric vector space over \(\mathbb{R}\). However, in last section we confine ourselves to \(\mathbb{R}\), for we make use of \(\mathbb{R}\)’s structure for simplicity. In this paper we discuss the bifurcation problem for the abstract operator equation of the form \(F (u, \lambda) = \theta\) with a parameter \(\lambda\), where \(F\colon X \times R \to Y\) is a \(C^1\) mapping, \(X, Y\) are Banach spaces. By the bounded linear generalized inverse \(A^+\) of \(A = F_u (u_0 , \lambda_0 )\), an abstract bifurcation theorem for the case \(\operatorname{dim}N (F_u (u_0 , \lambda_0 )) \geq \operatorname{codim} R(F_u (u_0 , \lambda_0 )) = 1\) has been obtained.

Clarke's generalized derivative $f^0(x,v)$ is studied as a function on the Banach algebra Lip(X,d) of bounded Lipschitz functions f defined on an open subset X of a normed vector space E. For fixed $x\in X$ and fixed $v\in E$ the function $f^0(x,v)$ is continuous and sublinear in $f\in Lip(X,d)$. It is shown that all linear functionals in the support set of this continuous sublinear function satisfy Leibniz's product rule and are thus point derivations. A characterization of the support set in terms of point derivations is given.
