Brief review of methods used for simulation of signal propagation in wavelength division multiplexed (WDM)links is presented. We propose two novel methods of stepsize distribution optimization used to improve symmetrized split step Fourier method (S-SSFM) numerical efficiency: presimulated local error S-SSFM (PsLE S-SSFM) and modified logarithmic (ML S-SSFM). The PsLE S-SSFM contains two stages: in the initial stage step-size distribution optimization is carried out by combining local error method and presimulation with signal spectrum averaging; in the second stage conventional SSFM is used by applying optimal step-size distribution obtained in the initial stage. The ML S-SSFMis generalization of logarithmic method proposed to suppress spurious FWM tones, in which a slope of logarithmic step-size distribution is optimized. Overall time savings exceed 50%, depending of a simulated system scenario.

In this paper, we present a new approach for capacitance matrix calculation of lossy multilayer VLSI interconnects based on quasi-static analysis and Fourier projection technique. The formulation is independent from the position of the interconnect conductors and number of layers in the structure, and is especially adequate to model 2D and 3D layered structures with planar boundaries. Thanks to the quasi-static algorithms considered for the capacitance analysis and the expansions in terms of convergent Fourier series the tool is reliable and very efficient; results can be obtained with relatively little programming effort. The validity of the technique is verified by comparing its results with on-surface MEI method, moment method for total charges in the structure, and CAD-oriented equivalent-circuit methodology, respectively.

In this paper, a modified Fourier-Ritz method is used to study free vibration of a rectangular plate with a set of simply supported opposite sides and another set of arbitrary elastic constraints. The influence of different elastic constraint stiffness values on the modal response of the rectangular plate is also analyzed. In order to avoid that the displacement function of the rectangular plate calculated by the traditional method and its derivative may be discontinuous or non-derivable at the boundary, the displacement function is expressed in the form of the sum of standard cosine series and a periodic polynomial function. Compared with the sine series expansion, the convergence of the result is enhanced. Several sets of numerical examples with different boundary conditions are given in the article, the data shows that the results calculated by this method have good accuracy and fast convergence. In addition, this paper also analyzes the boundary conditions and discusses the influence of different spring stiffness values on the setting of boundary conditions. The results can be applied to the setting of general boundary conditions and the study of vibration control of rectangular plates.

Opis:
A highly selective filter is designed, working at 1.55 μm and having a 3-dB bandwidth narrower than 0.4 nm, as is required in Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexed systems. Different solutions are proposed, involving photonic crystals made rectangular- or circular-section dielectric rods, or else of holes drilled in a dielectric bulk. The polarization and frequency selective properties are achieved by introducing a defect in the periodic structure. The device is studied by using in-house codes implementing the full-wave Fourier Modal Method. Practical guidelines about advantages and limits of the investigated solutions are given.

Opis:
The procedure for taking into account shear and rotational inertia in the case of transverse vibrations of beam elements of material handling vehicles with different conditions of fastening (support) is considered. The dynamic model of the rod element is supplemented with compressive forces with a fixed line of action and monitors the angle of rotation of the rod. The Fourier method of separation of variables in the harmonic vibrations of beams is applied. This made it possible to obtain a differential equation, kinematic and static parameters in the amplitude state. The resulting differential equation is integrated, the fundamental functions are normalized, and the complete solution is presented in matrix form with initial parameters. Four cases of fundamental functions are revealed. For beam elements with different support conditions, the vibration frequency has been refined. With hinged support, the first 5 frequencies of this work coincide with the frequencies obtained by another approach.

The presented paper is focused on the comparison of the numerical solution of the Laplace equation in a two-dimensional space with the results obtained with the use of the analytical method. The results of the numerical model are computed on the base of the Finite Element Method. The analytical solution of the considered equation is obtained using the Fourier series. Finally the results of both methods are compared in order to verify the accuracy of numerical implementation.

In this paper, the results of analytical and numerical solution of the problem of heat transport in the rod of finite length are presented. The analytical solution is obtained with the use of the Fourier series. The numerical model of the problem is based on the Finite Element Method (FEM). In addition, to check the compatibility of both solutions, distributions of the temperature for selected time moments are compared and discussed.

The bi-parabolic equation has many practical significance in the field of heat transfer. The objective of the paper is to provide a regularized problem for bi-parabolic equation when the observed data are obtained in $L^{p}$. We are interested in looking at three types of inverse problems. Regularization results in the L$\text{}^{2}$ space appears in many related papers, but the survey results are rare in $L^{p}$, p≠2. The first problem related to the inverse source problem when the source function has split form. For this problem, we introduce the error between the Fourier regularized solution and the exact solution in $L^{p}$ spaces. For the inverse initial problem for both linear and nonlinear cases, we applied the Fourier series truncation method. Under the terminal input data observed in $L^{p}$, we obtain the approximated solution also in the space $L^{p}$. Under some reasonable smoothness assumptions of the exact solution, the error between the the regularized solution and the exact solution are derived in the space $L^{p}$. This paper seems to generalize to previous results for bi-parabolic equation on this direction.

It is well known that a power of a right invertible operator is again right invertible, as well as a polynomial in a right invertible operator under appropriate assumptions. However, a linear combination of right invertible operators (in particular, their sum and/or difference) in general is not right invertible. It will be shown how to solve equations with linear combinations of right invertible operators in commutative algebras using properties of logarithmic and antilogarithmic mappings. The used method is, in a sense, a kind of the variables separation method. We shall obtain also an analogue of the classical Fourier method for partial differential equations. Note that the results concerning the Fourier method are proved under weaker assumptions than these obtained in [6] (cf. also [7, 8, 11]).

Tradycyjna metoda elementów brzegowych (MEB) pozwala uzyskać rozwiązanie problemu, ale tylko w przypadku istnienia znanego rozwiązania fundamentalnego. Bardziej uniwersalne podejście oferuje MEB Fouriera, która realizuje, przy pewnych założeniach, obliczenia bez znajomości rozwiązania podstawowego. Równoważność obu metod została pokazana w pracy. Współczynniki ostatecznego układu równań liniowych wyznaczane są w przestrzeni Fouriera. W artykule zaprezentowano implementację całkowania symbolicznego w pakiecie Matlab do wyznaczania całek osobliwych w MEB Fouriera.
The traditional Boundary Element Method (BEM) allows for the solution of the problem, but only if there is a known fundamental solution. A more universal approach the Fourier BEM offers. It implements, under certain assumptions, calculations without knowing the fundamental solution. The equivalence of both methods is shown in. Coefficients of the final system of linear equations are determined in the Fourier space. The paper presents the implementation of the symbolic integration in MATLAB to determine the singular integrals in Fourier BEM.

The traditional Boundary Element Method (BEM) is a collection of numerical techniques for solving some partial differential equations. The classical BEM produces a fully populated coefficients matrix. With Galerkin Boundary Element Method (GBEM) is possible to produce a symmetric coefficients matrix. The Fourier BEM is a more general numerical approach. To calculate the final matrix coefficients it is necessary to find the improper integrals. The article presents the method for calculation of such integrals.
Tradycyjna metoda elementów brzegowych (MEB) prowadzi w efekcie do rozwiązania układu równań liniowych z pełną macierzą współczynników. Stosując podejście Galerkina ostateczny układ równań liniowych jest reprezentowany macierzą symetryczną. W podejściu Fouriera, współczynniki układu równań wyznaczane są w przestrzeni Fouriera co pozwala uniknąć problemów z całkowaniem całek nieosobliwych, ale powoduje konieczność obliczania całek niewłaściwych. W artykule zaprezentowano algorytm obliczania takich całek.

The asymptotic properties of the estimator $\widehat{f}_{N(n)}(x) = \sum_{k=1}^{N(n)} \widehat{c}_ke_k(x)$ for $f \in L^2[a,b]$ and $\widehat{c}^{N(n)}=( \widehat{c}_1,..., \widehat{c}_{N(n)})^T$ obtained by the least squares method as well as the limits in probability of the estimators $\widehat{c}_k$, k=1,...,N, for fixed N, are studied in the case when the functions $e_k$, k=1,2,..., forming a complete orthonormal system in $L^2\[a,b\]$ are analytic.

It is very known that if the operator d/dx acts on each term into a convergent Fourier series (FS) then it may result a divergent series. This situation is remedied applying the symmetric derivative to FS, which implies the existence of the important Fejér-Lanczos factors. In this note, we show that the orthogonal derivative also leads to these factors.

The velocity potential of the fluid satisfies the Laplace equation with nonlocal boundary conditions on a free surface. This differential problem is transformed to an evolution equation in Fourier variables. The Fourier transform images of boundary functions are approximated by Picard's iterations and the method of lines on meshes related to roots of Hermite polynomials. Due to convolutions of sine and cosine functions the integral terms of Picard's iterations reveal unexpected instabilities for wave numbers in a neighborhood of zero.
