Opis:
What does an actor do in a biographical film? This question may seem inane, or at least less than serious; however, the terms frequently used to describe and assess the actors work in general - to embody a character, to play them, to play a role - suggests the existence of a certain designatum, which is the point of reference for the role. In the case of a fictional story, we may ignore the semantic multivalence of such terms. In a biographical film, however, the existence of a real originator of the role gives additional, almost ontological meaning to phrases such as “embodying a character” or “playing a role”. In my reflections, I use as my starting point the assumption that the actors performance in a biographical film and the “conception of a character” result from two basic components: 1. Interpretation of the role - constituting a proposal to analyse the heros character. It is usually supposed to extract more profound meanings and senses out of the biography. To put it more simply, the interpretation of the role is supposed above all to help the viewer to answer the question of who the hero was (what they were like) and why? 2. Adaptation - this includes the physicality of the character: their appearance, body language, facial expressions, voice (the tone, modulation, accent, phrasing, dialect - if the authentic person used one, etc.) In my article I try to answer the questions: Where should we seek the essence of biographic acting? How can we avoid exaggeration and falsehood, which could kill the role?

Opis:
There are many case studies showing the benefits of the conceptual framework of Actor– Network Theory (ANT). It is enough to mention the classic texts by Bruno Latour on the Amazon forest and Michel Callon on scallop fishing. However, there are not many case studies discussing the circulation of knowledge in the humanities with the use of vocabulary taken from ANT. This text tries to partially fill the gap, analyzing a case encompassing the areas of both literary studies and philosophy. The main topic of the paper is the circulation of Jacques Derrida’s views – or the views attributed to Derrida – as exemplified by one of his theses. The purpose of the text is not to reflect on the value of Derrida’s reflections, but only to show how the knowledge of his thought spread from France, through the USA, to Poland, from the 1960s to the beginning of the 21st century. Besides proving that the ANT vocabulary is suitable for studying the phenomenon of the circulation of knowledge in the humanities, the case study also shows that this vocabulary should be enriched. The author of the text proposes the concept of symbolization to better understand how Derrida and the ideas attributed to him have been perceived in various texts.

Opis:
This article explores the phenomenon of elections as a political chronotope, a spatio-temporal realm where the mechanisms of democracy unfold. Its aim is to elucidate the unique socio-political nature of elections. The author establishes that the spatial and temporal characteristics define the format and regulations governing electoral interactions. The term «chronotope» is understood as an interdisciplinary concept that captures the essential connections between temporal and spatial features within a specific order of phenomena. Although extensive research has focused on the social, technical, and psychological aspects of expressing one›s will, the ontology of elections, which encompasses the comprehension of the «unity of time and place of action» and the involvement of political actors in the electoral scenario, has been largely overlooked. Additionally, this study concentrates on the concept of the electoral situation, which delineates the synchronous and diachronic connections wherein citizens’ political choices are positioned, realized, and interpreted. The notion of the electoral situation can be correlated with the term «political landscape», which is only partially related to actual geography but predominantly pertains to the comprehensive conditions of an electoral competition (the coordinate system) and the participants involved in this process. The article’s author illustrates how the electoral situation constructs synchronous and diachronic connections at various levels of political interaction. Notably, these connections are facilitated by political mythologems, which serve as unifying and integrative factors within the electoral chronotope. By examining these mythologems, the author highlights their role in shaping the narrative and symbolism surrounding elections, ultimately influencing the dynamics and outcomes of the electoral process. Overall, this article delves into the intricate relationship between elections and the spatio-temporal framework in which they occur. By emphasizing the significance of the electoral situation and its connection to the broader political landscape, the author sheds light on the multifaceted nature of electoral processes, enriching our understanding of democracy’s fundamental mechanisms.

Traditional computational models for enterprise software are still to a great extent centralized. However, rapid growing of modern computation techniques and frameworks causes that contemporary software becomes more and more distributed. Towards development of new complete and coherent solution for distributed enterprise software construction, synthesis of three well-grounded concepts is proposed: Domain-Driven Design technique of software engineering, REST architectural style and actor model of computation. As a result new resources-based framework arises, which after first cases of use seems to be useful and worthy of further research.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to show a theatre and film actor in the “theatre of everyday life”. The author, using sociological literature on social roles (e.g. E. Goffman, M. Łoś, W. J. Goode) discusses the problem of actors’ performing their professional roles. She is particularly interested in self-promotional strategies used by actors on a daily basis. As an exemplification of a “performance” outside the artistic context, (stage or film set), the author analyses the course of the Great Actor's meeting with the audience and defines it as a quasi-spectacle requiring the adoption of certain roles, both by the artist and the audience. A new concept of “celebrity illusion” appears in the text, which concerns the illusory conviction of many artists that everyone should know them. They take it for granted that as “inhabitants of the mass imagination” they should be noticed in public space and correctly identified. The article uses the following sources: (1) existing: journalistic interviews with theatre and film actors published in popular monthlies and on the Internet; (2) evoked: in-depth free interviews with theatre artists (mainly actors) representing six Polish theatre centres. In 2015-2017, the author conducted twenty interviews - the respondents were recruited using the “snowball” method. Younger and older generation artists, fourteen men and six women, participated in the study The research technique was supported by the observation of actors' behaviour in non-artistic contexts (e.g. during meetings with the audience).
Celem artykułu jest ukazanie aktora teatralnego i filmowego w „teatrze życia codziennego”. Autorka, wykorzystując literaturę socjologiczną dotyczącą roli społecznej (m.in. W artykule wykorzystano następujące źródła: (1) zastane, a więc opublikowane w popularnych miesięcznikach i w Internecie prasowe wywiady dziennikarskie z aktorami teatralnymi i filmowymi; (2) wywołane, czyli pogłębione wywiady swobodne z twórcami teatralnymi (przede wszystkim z aktorami) reprezentującymi sześć polskich ośrodków teatralnych. W latach 2015–2017 autorka przeprowadziła dwadzieścia wywiadów – respondenci rekrutowani byli metodą „śnieżnej kuli”. W badaniu partycypowali artyści młodszej i starszej generacji, czternastu mężczyzn i sześć kobiet. Wspomagającą technikę badawczą stanowiła obserwacja zachowań aktorów w kontekstach pozaartystycznych (np. podczas spotkań z publicznością).

Between script and film cameraFor the film director the film is, in a way, “ready” before the shooting. Everything what is important for the film must be planned and worked out before its shooting. The interval between writing the script and the shooting the film is the intensive time of work for the director. He/she must decide what (kind of) movie he/she wants to do. The director must know how to organize the scenes for the shots, how the film should start and end. He/she must know who will play in the film and find a way to inspire the actors. The director prepares the rehearsals. He/she is also supposed to find interiors and exteriors for shooting, write the screenplay and draw the storyboard. The satisfy all these requirements of director has to be not only talented but work hard, be concentrated and persistent. Effects of his/her devotion to film are revealed in how the text of the script is turned into film.

Opis:
Teff is a highly valuable grain for Ethiopian people in generating income and achieving food security. Using unique cross-sectional data from husbands and wives, descriptive statistics and an econometric model, this paper analyzes gender roles in the teff value chain in south-western Ethiopia. Primary data was collected from 117 farmers, 38 traders and 14 consumers. Findings indicate that women contribute more than their husbands to teff production, and their labor burden exceeds that of their husbands since they perform reproductive activities in which men do not participate. Most women are involved in the production, processing and retailing of teff. In turn, their husbands control the wholesale process and cash generated. However, it is difficult to calculate the labor share of women in the household. There are very weak linkages between actors of the entire teff value chain. Among the main determinants of teff market supply, education of the respondent, land area, market information and cooperative membership have a positive effect. Conversely, distance to market negatively affected teff market supply. Therefore, enhancing cooperation between teff value chain actors and providing women with access to training, education and extension services should be a policy priority in the study areas.

In the contemporary special pedagogy, it is clearly seen, that we are dealing with a situation of passing over scholarly programmes that refer, i.a. to the medical and social model of disability. We remain in a inter-paradigmatic transition period, in which new views on disability are appearing. One of the most popular scholarly approaches is the posthumanism, the characteristics of which are, i.a.: the critique of humanism, the departure from anthropocentrism, the appearance of a new materialism, the direction of research towards objects, animals, as well as, the relations of people and non-people. The example of such posthumanist approach, that may constitute the context for the creation of new models of disability, is the Actor-Network theory developed by Bruno Latour and his associates.

This communication tries to shape and to ground the idea that Rural Studies and Rural Sociology have a particularly promising job to do in re-assembling the Social, the Natural and the Technical within the treadmill of sustainable development. It is argued that the cross-fertilization of the ecological modernization movement and Social Studies of Science and Technology (particularly Actor- Network-Theory) is giving the opportunity to establish a perspective that might enlighten and accompany the processes of making agricultural sciences and technology more ecological. But this requires specific conditions and ways of doing social studies in situations that include those processes.

: The dual perspective model of agency and communion predicts that observers tend to interpret a target’s behavior more in terms of communion than agency, whereas actors interpret their behavior more in terms of agency. The present research for the first time tests this model in real interactions. Previously unacquainted participants had a short conversation and afterwards rated their own behavior (actor perspective) and their interaction partner’s behavior (observer perspective) in terms of agency(self-confident, assertive) and communion(trustworthy, empathic). Supporting the dual perspective model, observers rated the actor’s behavior higher on communion than on agency, and higher on communion than actors themselves did. Findings for actors were more complex: Actors rated their own behavior as more agentic than observers did. However, they also rated their behavior high on communion. We discuss implications for the dual perspective model as well as for (mis)understandings in social interactions.

The aim of the paper is to critically review previous considerations concerning subjectivity. The author argues that subjectivity is both unnecessary and biased as an analytical category applied in order to understand the social reality. At the same time, however, the concept is indispensable as a normative reference.

To per se redukuje znaczenie struktur społecznych.
The Author starts from by saying that for several decades our reflection on non-human actors and their impact on humans have not been seen as a major task of humanities and social sciences. These were focused on research of interpersonal and social practices and did not work out sufficient and effective methods and approaches in examining techno-human and techno-social phenomena. Yet, it becomes more and more evident that understanding and explaining the role of objects and tools is indispensable to grasp the nature of technology saturated societies, in particular smart technologies incorporated into anthropomorphic robots. The Author concludes that services offered by humans are more and more replaced by those conducted by computers and robots. This per se reduces the importance of social structures. As a result the social change depends less on interpersonal networks and more on techno-human ones. This means that humans expect more from machines and less for each other.

Emotions are expressed not only with words but also with a gesture, body posture, miming or voice modulation. Actor reproduces on stage the external effects of emotions which the audience can read. In the 18th century, theatre and actor became the subject of theoretical reflection comprising two contrasting theories: either living or pretending the feelings of a character played. In Italy, the first theory prevailed, presented by Luigi Riccoboni in his treaties: Dell’arte rappresentativa (1728) and Pensées sur la déclamation (1738). The main objective of this article is to examine how the emotional acting was performed in practice in the 18th century Italian theatre. To this aim, two examples will be closely analysed which are very different in terms of style but not distant in time and what is more, intended for the same Venetian audience. For the purpose of analysis, two monologues were chosen which show an outbreak of anger leading in consequence to a revenge: Mirandolina’s first monologue from Carl Goldoni’s comedy titled La locandiera (1753) and Tartaglia’s first monologue from a scenic fable by Carlo Gozzi titled Il re cervo (1762). The analysis will focus on the power of word expressing emotions and performative traces buried in the text as well as indirect and direct reports of the contemporary audience which will approximately allow to reproduce the style of acting.

Opis:

The article is dedicated to the concept of “superconsciousness” which was for the first time put into the theatre dictionary by Stanislavski. Discussed area of psychical activity of the artist, also called creative intuition, has been deeply analysed by psychophysiologist P. Simonow and P. Jerszow, theatre practitioner and theoretician, and it is the key to understanding of Stanislavski’s “system”. The important aspect in the process of rearing of the actor is skillful incitement of the consciousness and subconsciousness of creative subject in order to awake the sphere of superconsciousness – the essence of creativity.

Opis:
The purpose of the paper is to analyse the folk understanding of physical and mental illness in Polish and Italian proverbs. The analysis shows that this is not a uniform picture, and that acceptance of disease and itstreatment have had several dimensions in the world of premonitions, superstitions and religion, and the physician treating a disease is just one and not the most important component in the process of recovery. The image of the disease in Italian proverbs seems to be similar to Polish proverbs, though not identical. It is extremely interesting that a part of the folk world connected with diseases and the fight against them has survived in modern Polish and standard Italian languages.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to propose a new conceptual tool and an inspiration for sociological analysis of disability as an alternative to the predominant social model. It first discusses the social model and argues that in spite of its numerous merits it may be regarded as a manifestation of sociological reductionism of the actual complexity of disability. The notions of representation and translation are then contrasted, the former being the core of the social constructionist accounts and the latter being deeply rooted in a post‑constructivist perspective of actor‑network theory. Next, examples of translation, related to data visualization, disability simulation technologies and disability certification schemas are presented and discussed, emphasizing the action possibilities they enable by this impacting both the situation of people with disabilities and policy‑making processes. Finally, it is argued that sociology could engage in not only the examination but also the development of translational tools, which could be an important and welcome contribution of the discipline to disability policies.
