Opis:
In this study, the microstructure and mechanical properties were investigated of different amount Cr (0.1%, 0.5%, 0.9%) added Sn-9Zn eutectic alloys and Weibull statistical analyses were evaluated using ultimate tensile strength. Pure elements (Sn, Zn, Cr) were used for production of alloys and pre-alloying was done and waited in the electrical resistance furnace at 450°C for 1 h to homogenized and poured as ingot in plaster moulds. Then pre-alloyed Sn-9Zn-xCr ingots were melted and poured at 300°C in ceramic moulds prepared investment casting method. As a result of the study, the highest hardness and ultimate tensile strength values were measured in the Sn-9Zn alloy with 0.1% Cr. It was determined that while ultimate tensile strength was decreased, percentage of elongation was increased by increase of Cr amount. According to the Weibull statistical analyses results, the highest Weibull module was calculated by Sn-9Zn-0.1Cr alloy ultimate tensile strength values.

Opis:
Using X-ray microanalysis and scanning electron microscopy $Zn-Ni-SiO_2$ plating containing $SiO_2$ nanoparticles were studied. It was found that X-ray irradiation of the electrolyte leads to the increased Ni concentration in $Zn-Ni-SiO_2(X)$ films and the grain size is also increasing (the grain size is twice that in the unirradiated case). A thickness of $Zn-Ni-SiO_2(X)$ plating is 20 μm and a thickness of the $Zn-Ni-SiO_2$ plating is about 15 μm. The surface morphology was studied using AFM method. Increasing Ni concentration and $Ni_5Zn_{21}$ phase due to X-Ray irradiation of the electrolyte leading to the improved mechanical properties of the coating.

An experimental study has been carried out to investigate tensile, bending, impact and hardness properties of chopped carbon fiber reinforced epoxy composites. Four different weight fractions (0%, 6%, 8%, 10%) were added as reinforcement to composites. The samples were manufactured by using a special designed mold. Tests were carried out according to the ASTM standards. Results of the tests have shown that hardness increases with the increasing amount of carbon fiber in composites. Tensile, bending and impact performances have increased up to 8% of carbon fiber in the composite and then started to decrease.

An experimental study has been carried out to investigate tensile and bending properties of carbon fiber (CFRE) and glass fiber-reinforced (GFRE) epoxy composites. Three different fiber orientations were applied, 0°, 90° and [0°, 90°]. The laminates were obtained by manual lay-up process. The samples were evaluated by tensile tests according to the ASTM D3039 and bending tests according to the ASTM D790. Experimental results showed that maximum tensile strengths were observed at 0° fiber direction for the both CFRE and GFRE composites. With respect to their tension properties, the CFRE samples had better performance than the GFRE samples, except for the 90° orientation. Three point bending tests proved that in all orientations CFRE composites had better performance, compared to GFRE composites.

Automobile wheel rims are critical elements that work under fatigue loading. For this reason, it is very important to determine fatigue damage of the wheel rims. Today, finite element analysis is used to make accurate predictions. In this study, it is aimed to determine Chaboche damage model parameters for an aluminium alloy wheel rim. Msc Marc software is used for finite element analysis. First, Chaboche damage model parameters are obtained using simple Holloman equation for finite element analysis. Model parameters are validated by single element tests. Then, fatigue behaviour of an automobile wheel rim is analysed with verified Chaboche parameters. At last, critical areas under fatigue loading are identified on the wheel rim.

It is a well-identified fact that more elaborate laboratory studies should be carried out for evaluation of dynamic properties of different types of soils. Regardless of the mechanisms affecting the mechanical behaviour of the soils, past studies reveal that existence of fiber positively affects the strength of either cohesive or non-cohesive soils. A short literature survey provides numerous studies on the stress-strain behaviour of fine/coarse soils, reinforced by polypropylene fiber. On the other hand, studies concerning fiber reinforced soils subjected to dynamic loading are relatively rare. Therefore, in this research it was intended to investigate the effects of polypropylene fiber inclusion on the dynamic behavior of a clayey sand soil, within an experimental framework. In this scope, a number of cyclic triaxial compression tests were conducted to assess the effect of fiber presence. The effects of fiber length and content were experimentally evaluated. Hence, the variation of shear modulus ratio and damping ratio values by shear deformation was plotted to observe the effects of fiber length and inclusion level as well. The results are presented along with detailed evaluations.

The tie rod end is one of the most elementary parts of a steering mechanism, which has direct and crucial importance in terms of driving safety. The main function of this part is to transfer the routing, coming from the steering linkage, to steering knuckle via tie rot arm. In this study the structural analysis of a tie rod end part for a van-type vehicle is carried out by finite element (FE) modeling of the body, the joint and the bearing. Hence, unlike the previous studies in literature, each component of the tie rod end is included in FE model and a complete assembly is analyzed by means of contact interactions between parts. The analyses for the joint assembly are carried out for different possible tie-end orientations, and by this modeling approach, the stress variations and deformation characteristics of each component are investigated for different operational loading conditions.

Recently, it is common application to use particle materials as fillers to improve engineering properties and lower the cost of finished product. Pumice powder is cheaper than most of traditional particle fillers, however use of pumice powders as a reinforcing material in composites has not been studied in literature. Hence, in this study we have investigated the mechanical and the thermal properties of pumice powder filled polyphenylenesulphide (PPS) composites. PPS composites were reinforced with pumice powder at different loading rates (0, 1, 3.5, and 10 wt%) and they were manufactured by twin screw extruder and injection molding machine. Thermal properties were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimeter methods. Moreover, mechanical properties such as barcol hardness, tensile strength, and modulus of samples were investigated. Thermal properties of composite samples have varied significantly depending on the loading rate. Also mechanical properties of pumice powder filled PPS composites have showed better results than pure PPS. According to test results both of mechanical and thermal properties of composites have improved with pumice powder reinforcement and it is determined that pumice powders can be used instead of traditional particle fillers.

Opis:
In the fatigue life assessment of adjustable telescopic steel prop joints subjected to cyclic loading is critical for determining the number of cycles before fatigue failure of 235GT steel materials. The research aims in this reported work were to develop a computational material model and 3D finite-element analysis model to accurately predict the static and dynamic cyclic load-deformation characteristics of 235GT steel and adjustable telescopic steel prop components. Critical values for stress components, responsible for distinctive fatigue failure of the adjustable telescopic steel prop were obtained and the fatigue limits were illustrated in the Smith diagram. To achieve these, finite element analysis were employed to calculate compressive stresses and equivalent Von Mises stresses as well as the analysis by the strength of materials experimental procedure in laboratory conditions. Hence, through appropriate computer software, the fatigue strength of adjustable telescopic steel prop was automatically determined and expressed in the form of the Smith diagram. The results obtained by the finite-element analysis and calculations are entirely similar to that of strength of materials procedure. This research helps improving site safety to understand the current working load limit basis for the material design of adjustable telescopic steel prop structures and make this design risk-consistent to prevent fatal injuries in the building construction industry.

In this study, effect of double stage gas nitriding of 34CrAlNi7-10 steel was analyzed. Nitriding processes were carried out in two stages. in the first stage, samples were nitridied at 500°C for 10 h and then in second stage nitriding process was continued at 530 and 550°C for 20 h. During both stages, the nitrogen activity on surface was controlled by the nitriding potential, which is a thermodynamical control parameter for controlled gas nitriding process. The nitriding potential was kept constant, at value of 10, during the first stage and was varied in the range of 3.2-0.2, for both nitriding temperatures, in the second stage. The presence of nitrides, formed on the surface of test materials was determined by XRD analysis technique. The morphology of nitrided layer was studied by optical microscopy. The microhardness of the surfaces of nitrided samples in HV1 was between 955 and 1029. The measurements have shown that the thickness of the compound layer (white layer) has varied between 6.85-23.90 μm and that the growth of the white layer and microhardness gradient were strongly affected by the nitriding potential and the temperature. Diffusion depths as Nht(HV) for Vickers Hardness were determined and compared.

Opis:
Polyphenylene sulfide is a semicrystalline thermoplastic polymer. It offers an excellent balance of properties, including chemical resistance, high temperature resistance, dimensional stability, electrical characteristics and flowability. Polyphenylene sulfide must be filled with reinforced agents, such as fibers and fillers, to overcome its inherent brittleness. Because of its low viscosity, polyphenylene sulfide can be molded with high loading of fillers and reinforcements. These fillers and reinforcements will make a difference in the electrical properties, strength, dimensional stability, surface properties and overall cost. Because of its inherent flame retardancy, polyphenylene sulfide is ideal for high temperature electrical applications. On the other hand, olivine is volcanic based mineral with porous structure, which consists of forsterite (Mg₂SiO₄) and fayalite (Fe₂SiO₄). Both, its lower price compared to other minerals and harmlessness to human health increase the usage of olivine from day to day. For this reason olivine reinforced polyphenylene sulfide composite samples were manufactured at various weight ratios (0, 1, 3, 5 and 10 wt.%). Mechanical and scratch properties of samples were investigated and according to test results, it is concluded that olivine mineral can be used as a reinforcing agent material instead of other conventional fillers.

The results of the comparative study of a quasi-equilibrium NiTi alloy's thermo-mechanical response to high-rate and quasi-static straining in the temperature range of 100-300°C, which included the $A_{f}$ and the $M_{d}$ temperatures, are considered. The existence of B2 → B19' and B2 → R → B19' martensitic transformations, associated with the heterogeneous distribution of Ni₄Ti₃ precipitates is shown to result in shaping of martensitic and austenitic two-way shape memories, the simultaneous presence of which determines the reversing shape memory effect. The suppression of stress-induced B2 → B19' transformation at temperatures higher than the $M_{d}$ temperature resulted in austenitic two-way shape memory only. Distinct dependences on the temperature of the critical stresses that initiate B2 → B19' and B2 → R → B19' martensitic transformations in austenite are shown to be the reason for the participation of the irreversible mechanisms of straining at the earliest stages of tension, whatever the strain-rate applied, thus annihilating the distinctions between the quasi-static and high-rate straining processes. As a result, the thermo-mechanical properties acquired after tension become practically independent of the strain-rate.

Antagonistic contact on tips of active micro forceps produces surface stresses leading to fracture and wear finally leading to fatal failure. It was the aim of the present research to study the outcome of low cycle loading testing parts of active micro forceps materials involving either surface contact fatigue or flexural loading mechanisms. For this purpose, this research was focused on the mechanisms of the fatigue life of 316 L-type stainless steel active micro forceps in low cycle loading conditions. This could result in the fatigue failure of active micro forceps at stress levels below the yielding stress of material. Thus, researching the material and mechanical behaviors of an active micro forceps structure and force mechanism under low cycle loading is vital. Finite element method with accurate geometry and material properties was employed for a biocompatible forceps' tips in the computational modeling. To justify the data collected from Von Mises' yield condition, the Haigh diagram was developed to analyze fatigue wear. The low cycle loading behavior of the active micro forceps was analyzed in computational engineering tool of ANSYS LS-DYNA under operational load conditions in vitrectomy. The results of the analysis obtained from this research are helpful for micro component manufacturer and clinic surgery operation.

This paper reports an experimental study on the design of self-compacting lightweight concrete using acidic pumice with different powder materials. For this aim, nine self-compacting lightweight concretes were designed with inclusion of two different fine aggregates and different powder materials. This way, two groups of concrete were designed. First group was composed of single type of aggregate which is acidic pumice from Bitlis Region with barite powder, fly ash powder and pumice powder inclusion, while the second group was generated with river sand as a fine aggregate and acidic pumice from Bitlis Region, as a coarse aggregate with the same powder addition. In the design process, slump-flow, V-funnel and L-box tests were applied to determine the fresh properties of self-compacting lightweight concrete. After the design, test of compressive strength, which is one of the most important parameters of concrete, was applied to all self-compacting lightweight concretes in early age. Wood pallets are important carrying tools, defined in packaging engineering, for fragile or any kind of heavy goods. Wood pallets are exposed to flexural forces resulting in fracture and fatigue during transportation. In this research, the fracture and fatigue behavior of wood pallet system under loading was investigated, taking into account nail and pallet material behavior, using strain-stress distribution by computational finite element analysis. Static and dynamic numerical analysis was performed on the 3D model of poplar wood pallet using ANSYS computational system. To validate the data gathered from Von Mises yield, Goodman and N-S fatigue diagrams were established to predict fatigue life. The finite element models built in this research may assist the design engineers and manufacturers in evaluation of new design strategies of poplar wood pallets.

This study aims to recycle pure magnesium chips by a two-stage mechanical processing method. In the present study, the feasibility of recycling pure magnesium chips with the help of commercially pure magnesium powder was investigated. For this study, the magnesium chips mixed with different amount of magnesium powders in the range of 25-75 wt%, after mixing by hand and cold press, are subjected to hot extrusion to provide homogeneous microstructure. Furthermore, the effect of magnesium powder and their amounts on the mechanical properties and corrosion behaviour of the recycled magnesium alloys were studied. The results of the mechanical and corrosion test showed that the hardness and compressive yield strength decreased with increasing chip content, while increase in the chip weight fraction in the initial mixture resulted in a significant increase of corrosion resistance.

This study presents an investigation of the prediction of impact resistance of steel-fiber-reinforced concrete and ordinary concrete specimens. In the experimental part of this study, parameters identifying impact resistance of various concrete mixtures were determined using an impact test machine, in accordance with ACI Committee 544. For this aim, concrete specimens containing three different aggregates (basalt, limestone and natural aggregate) were cured in water at 20°C for 28 days. After curing impact resistance tests were performed on specimens having compressive strength values between 20 and 50 MPa, to determine the blows to initial crack and failure. The specimens were also subjected to splitting tensile strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity tests. Initially, using blows to initial crack and failure, many attempts were made to classify the impact resistance of different types of concrete in terms of the origin of used aggregate, strength properties or ultrasonic pulse velocity, however, this made no sense. The specimens could only be classified in terms of steel fiber presence. Therefore, radial basis function network, which belongs to another kind of unsupervised classifier network, was used to estimate the two above-mentioned impact resistance parameters. In this scope, independent from aggregate origin used in preparation of specimens, compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity of the specimens were used to predict the impact resistance parameters of the concrete specimens. The results revealed that three listed parameters can be used for estimation of blows to formation of initial crack and failure. Scatter plots, root mean square error and absolute value of average residual parameters were used to verify the errors in predictions, which were very low, compared with the uncertainty in test and ambiguity of data in hand.

Syntactic foams are one of the most widely used close cell structured foams. They are used in applications for naval, aeronautical, aerospace, civil, industrial, and automotive engineering due to good acoustical attenuation, excellent strength to weight ratio, vibration isolation, and dielectric properties. These foams are fabricated by incorporation of hollow particles in a matrix material. The most preferred matrix materials are polymers. In this study silicone resin (useful temperature range - 53C to 232°C) was selected as a binder material. Glass bubbles were incorporated into the silicone resin at three different mass percentages (10%, 20%, and 30%). The density of the silicone was reduced more than 50% by 30% glass bubble contribution. The foam mechanical properties were investigated in a room temperature and after heat treatment at 500C by quasi-static compression experiments. Microstructural transitions by the temperature raises were examined by using scanning electron microscopy pictures. It was observed that the increase of glass bubble percentage in silicone rubber enhanced the energy absorption properties in the heat treated and room temperature specimens. Plateau stress and densification amount were improved under quasi-static compression load by the glass bubble percentage increase. It can be said that developed syntactic foams can be used in heat resistant, low weight and high compression strength exigencies.

Specialized beta titanium alloys containing biocompatible elements (Nb, Zr, Ta) are increasingly considered as a material for orthopaedic implants. In this study, small additions of Fe and Si are used to increase the strength of commercial Ti-35Nb-7Zr-5Ta (TNZT) alloy. Six different advanced alloys with iron content up to 2 wt% and silicon content up to 1 wt% were manufactured by arc melting and hot forging. Flow curves were determined from tensile tests carried out at room temperature. The yield stress is increased from 450 MPa to 700 MPa due to small Fe and Si additions. Fe causes solid solution strengthening exhibited by sharp yield point and significant work hardening. (Ti,Zr)₅Si₃ intermetallic particles further increase the strength via precipitation hardening. An unusual serrated yielding behaviour of benchmark TNZT alloy is caused by twinning as shown by acoustic emission measurement and electron backscattered diffraction analysis.

In this study, the effect of martensite volume fraction on ductile to brittle transition of microalloyed steel joined by welding was investigated. Triple phase steel contains ferrite, perlite and martensite phases and was joined by two types of welding method as gas metal arc welding and the electric arc welding. Presence of three phases in adjacent to each other was confirmed by metallographic analysis and scanning electron microscopy studies. All welded samples were exposed to Charpy impact test at the temperature range of -30C to 30C in order to measure the fracture energies of samples having different amount of martensite volume fractions. The fracture surface micrographs of Charpy specimens, examined by scanning electron microscopy and optical microscopy, confirmed the reduction in ductility of ferrite-perlite-martensite steels with increasing martensite volume fraction.

Soft magnetic composites are used in a wide range of applications working in different environmental conditions, between others, in different temperatures. Nowadays, devices often work in cryogenic temperatures. The paper shows influence of liquid nitrogen temperature on mechanical properties of soft magnetic composites prepared from ABC100.30 powder bonded by epoxy resin. Mechanical properties of samples were measured in room and liquid nitrogen temperatures. Compressive strength and transverse rapture strength increase with decreasing temperature. This type of soft magnetic composite can be applied in magnetic circuits of devices working in cryogenic temperatures. The results of measurement show that new devices, especially electric machines, working in these temperatures can be designed with higher mechanical loadings than devices working at room temperature.

Biocompatible cardiovascular stents are small cylindrical support structures introduced into the stenosed arteries to reopen the lumen and to restore blood flow in treating heart disease, which have revolutionized interventional cardiology. Cardiovascular stent designers are confronted with two basic requirements, such as an "infinite" life and the "thinnest" wires. Pulsatile pressure, repetitive mechanical forces, within the coronary artery may result in stent fatigue and fracture after stent implantation, particularly in patients with complex coronary disease. This research describes the simulation analysis of cardiovascular stents, to provide designers with estimates of their in vivo structural behavior and fatigue properties. Stent material failure or device fatigue remains major concern for stent manufactures and researchers. The objective of this research was to simulate the mechanical behavior of the stent using finite element method. A finite element analysis (FEA) of cardiovascular stent under fatigue cyclic loading conditions is presented. Commercial software was employed to study the fatigue performance of nitinol alloy materials in new stent systems. The effects of deployment, and static cyclic pressure loading on cardiovascular stent fatigue life were simulated and analyzed for nitinol alloy material. The investigation results displayed a significant correlation between material combinations, stent loading, and fatigue behavior.

This research focuses on the biocompatible zirconia ceramic (ZrO₂) material and load behavior causing fatigue on the surface of the dental implant in dentistry. Fatigue fracture and wear have been identified as some of the major problems associated with implant loosening, stress-shielding and ultimate implant failure. A static and cyclic fatigue testing of ceramic dental implant in laboratory conditions for this investigation were carried out according to the ISO protocol 14801 under worst-case conditions. A finite element analysis (FEA) of dental implant with accurate geometry and material properties were developed to make realistic investigations on biocompatibility of the implant biomaterial properties and mechanical fatigue behavior of new dental implant comparing Von-Mises criteria and maximum stress levels. The comparison of calculated fatigue life simulation data of and experimental data for the biocompatible zirconia ceramic dental implants is presented. As a conclusion zirconium implant exceeded the established values for maximum incisal bite forces reported in the literature and and also shows better performance than titanium implant material. The results of fatigue of biocompatible zirconia analysis are helpful for implant biomaterial selection and design for clinical interest in dentistry.

This paper reports results of an experimental study of the strength properties of fibre reinforced self-compacting concrete (FRSCC). For this aim, a control self-compacting concrete and 24 FRSCCs were designed, applying fresh self-compacting concrete criteria tests. In the design of FRSCC, four steel and two polypropylene synthetic fibres of different lengths and aspect ratios were used. These fibres were used alone and in combinations with two and four of these fibres. In this way, not only the effect of single fibre and the synergy effect of hybrid fibres, but also the size and concentration effect of fibres, which had different ratios in total fibre volume, were investigated. In the design process, Portland cement and fly ash were used as the binder and the powder material. The compressive and flexural-tensile strength tests were employed at the age of 3, 7, 28, 56 and 90 curing days, to determine the strength properties of FRSCCs. Moreover, ultrasound pulse velocity test was also performed on all concrete series at the same ages.

In this study, we investigated linear attenuation coefficient (μ ), half value layer, tenth value layer at 243, 344, 866, 1088, 1112, 1528 keV. Mechanical properties of cements containing nanosized powders (nano-SiO₂, nano-Fe₂O₃, nano-Al₂O₃) are obtained. According to compressive strength results nano-SiO₂ added cementitious material gave the highest strength. Moreover, all the nanopowders added samples showed higher compressive strength with respect to reference sample. The experimental linear mass attenuation coefficients μ , half value layer, tenth value layer for cementitious material were compared with theoretical values obtained using XCOM. The experimental results were found to be in good agreement with the theoretical values.

The purpose of this paper is to declare the results of investigation conducted on design of fibre reinforced self compacting lightweight concrete which has three different concrete technologies, and high temperature effect on it. For this aim, it is desired that production of new kind concrete material composed of fibre reinforced concrete, self compacting concrete and structural lightweight concrete technologies using all their better benefits. In this study, fly ash was used as a powder to reduce Portland cement consumption as well as CO_2 emission through the use of that waste material. A control self compacting concrete and 7 fibre reinforced self compacting lightweight concretes were designed applying slump flow (T50-flowing time and flowing diameter) and V-funnel tests to determine fresh concrete properties. In the design of fibre reinforced self compacting lightweight concrete, both single and hybrid fibre reinforced self compacting lightweight concrete mixes were produced using 1 macro and 1 micro steel fibres in different lengths and aspect ratios. Hybrid fibre reinforced self compacting lightweight concrete mixes were prepared using macro fibres together with micro fibre at three different percentages (50%-50%, 25%-75%, 75%-25%) by weight. After design process, cubic and prismatic concrete specimens were produced to determine hardened properties at standard concrete age. Firstly, flexural tensile and compressive strength tests were performed on the concrete specimens on 28 day. Lastly, the concrete specimens were heated up to temperatures of 200, 400, 600 and 800C then compressive strength and flexural tensile tests were performed to identify high temperature effect comparing to strength test results obtained from standard laboratory conditions. The test results showed that concrete mixes including macro fibres gave the best tensile strength properties, although they gave the worst fresh concrete properties.

An indirectly extruded round bar of magnesium alloy AZ31 has been subjected to a cyclic test consisting of preloading in compression to different values of maximum stress followed by a single tensile test segment. Concurrent acoustic emission measurements were used to determine the active deformation mechanisms during plastic flow and work hardening. Electron backscattering diffraction was applied to obtain local orientation images in order to reveal twins and twinned fractions of the microstructure. Twins form preferentially in larger grains during the compression test segment and only with increasing stress do smaller grains show twinning. Some grains are completely re-oriented as a result of twinning. During the tensile test segment, untwinning is the most significant deformation mechanism although in some re-oriented grains new twins also nucleate. The acoustic emission count rates confirm that this is only the case after compression to higher stress levels.

In this paper we report preliminary results from a study focused on investigation of the role of elements as Cr, Ni, Mn and Si in the radiation stability of reactor pressure vessel steels. Twelve model ferritic steels and eight model welds with basic composition derived from Russian VVER-1000 and Western PWR reactor pressure vessel materials were studied by magnetic Barkhausen noise and Charpy-V impact measurements. Comparison of these two model materials led to the conclusion that the ductile-brittle transition temperatures and Barkhausen noise RMS values of model steels are shifted to the lower values as those of model welds. The VVER-1000 as reference point is shifted to lower RMS values in comparison with model steels and model welds. The next stage of the assessment will involve the investigation of the radiation effect on the model steels with accumulated neutron fluence of $10^{19} n//cm^2$.

Opis:
The objective of this work is to characterize and evaluate the effect of incorporation of granite and marble rejects on the properties and microstructure development of three different clay materials used to fabricate brick materials in the brick industry. The raw materials are characterized with respect to their chemical composition by X-ray fluorescence, particle size distribution and mineralogical composition by X-ray diffraction and plasticity. Compositions have been prepared with additions of 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 wt% reject in three different clay material from Tamilnadu State, India, and fired at temperatures from 500 to 900°C in laboratory furnace. The behaviour of mixtures containing 80 wt% clay material + 20 wt% reject is discussed in detail. The technological properties of briquette specimens such as flexural rupture strength, water absorption, porosity and bulk density were determined. The microstructure of the fired briquette specimens were observed by scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry, Mössbauer spectroscopy. The results of the above studies show that incorporations of granite and marble rejects up to 50 wt% is potential to the industrial clay brick products, with no major sacrifice on the properties of the final product, anticipating no costly modifications in the industrial production line.

A Zr-2.5 wt%Nb alloy was processed by equal-channel angular pressing and then tested under creep conditions at 623 K using a tensile stress within the range from 120 to 300 MPa. The results show conventional power-law creep with a stress exponent of n > 3 which is consistent with an intragranular dislocation process involving the glide and climb of dislocations. It is demonstrated that diffusion creep is not important in these tests. For comparison purposes, the experiments were conducted using both the unprocessed alloy and after processing by equal-channel angular pressing. It was found that under same testing conditions the measured minimum creep rates in the pressed alloy with ultrafine grain sizes were faster than in the same alloy in a coarse-grained unprocessed condition.

Opis:
Magnesium alloy AZ31 prepared by hot extrusion and 4 passes of equal-channel angular pressing (EX-ECAP) has ultra-fine grained microstructure with an average grain size of 900 nm. Grain growth is analysed using a general equation for the grain growth and an Arrhenius equation. The calculated value of the activation energy for grain growth differs with the annealing temperature. The fitted value of activation energy for grain growth in the intermediate temperature range (210-400°C) is in accordance with the results of other authors, but it is shown in this study that such value is abnormally low and physically meaningless. More real values of apparent activation energy in this temperature range were calculated from the model assuming a linear increase of activation energy with increasing annealing temperature. Result of this linear model of evolution of activation energy in the temperature range between 210-400°C is expressed by the interval estimation of apparent activation energy values. It is concluded that the evolution of apparent activation energy can be explained by a change in the mechanism underlying the grain boundary migration. In the low temperature range, the grain boundary diffusion is dominant since the material is ultra-fine grained, whereas at higher temperatures, the lattice self-diffusion is more important.

The present transmission lines of populous cities will have to be changed with an ability to work at higher temperatures without any weight and cross section changes. Innovative thermal-resistant alloy conductors (T-ACSR) operate in the range of about 150-200°C instead of 75°C which is the standard ACSR type conductor service temperature. In this study, the manufacturing procedure of Al-Zr alloy wire, used as high-temperature conductor wires, have been introduced. The Al-Zr alloy has been cast in a permanent mold than being extruded to a diameter of 10 mm at 400°C. After that the extruded rods have been cold drawn to a diameter of 3.02 mm. Elongation and tensile strength values of the cold drawn wire have been achieved by tensile test at elevated temperatures. Also, microstructural analysis and dispersion hardening procedure have been investigated. The results show that tensile strength and thermal-resistant property are improved by the addition of Zr.

Opis:
Wrought Mg-Zn-Ce alloy (ZE10) has been pre-compressed and subsequently subjected to tensile loading. Due to a fibre texture of the samples, the level of pre-compression stress significantly influences the subsequent tensile behaviour. The acoustic emission technique was used for monitoring active deformation mechanisms during mechanical testing. The obtained acoustic emission results are correlated to the stress-time curves and the differences in the acoustic emission count rate were used to reveal changes in underlying deformation mechanisms. Firstly, a compression-tension cycle was monitored by the acoustic emission technique. Then, the samples were deformed to specific points on the stress-time curve, where acoustic emission exhibits strong changes in the activity. The following microstructure analysis of the samples, deformed to different strain-levels, by using electron back scattered diffraction method brought a detailed insight into active deformation mechanisms. Twinning during the pre-compression was followed by detwinning during the tensile loading. Two consecutive acoustic emission peaks, which appeared at larger strains, are explained by interplay of detwinning and dislocation slip and a nucleation of compression twins, respectively.

The influence of texture on deformation behavior was investigated for conventionally rolled magnesium alloy slabs and rolled twin roll cast magnesium alloy strips in the form of sheets. The Mg-Zn based sheets were deformed at room temperature with the tensile axis oriented in the rolling and transversal directions. The texture with respect to different rolling conditions was characterized by X-ray diffraction. In the case of Mg-Zn-rare earth alloy sheets, the basal pole intensity, aligned with the sheet normal direction, is lower for conventionally rolled sheet in comparison to the rolled twin roll cast strip. Difference in angular distribution of basal planes influences on the mechanical behavior of the sheets. The yield strength is higher for the tension along rolling direction than along transversal direction for the conventionally rolled sheets, whereas the opposite deformation behavior is observed for the rolled twin roll cast strips. Furthermore, the planar anisotropy of the yield strength is less pronounced for the rolled twin roll cast strips. The deformation behavior of the sheets was also investigated by the acoustic emission technique. The acoustic emission signal analysis correlates the microstructure and the stress-time curves with active deformation mechanisms. It highlights the activity of a basal slip and tensile twinning, particularly during the transverse direction tension.

With the development of new technologies, it is very popular to use a coronary stent that is a small mesh tube-shaped medical device deployed to treat narrow or weak arteries as part of a procedure called percutaneous coronary intervention. Several aspects, such as stent design, stent wire type, mechanical and material characteristics of stent have different influences on stent intervention. It has not been reported about what impacts on stent struts by the hemodynamic behavior on stent material and very few numerical studies have considered both the mechanical and hemodynamic impact of stent implementation. Computational simulation method for realization of realistic structural and hemodynamic micro environment model in this research provided valuable results of long-term functional knowledge of stent material behavior that are time consuming and expensive to determine otherwise. Computational fluid dynamics and finite element analysis simulation models were investigated and developed to evaluate engineering properties that affect stent functional attributes. These characteristics are dependences of material properties on blood flow conditions such as structural load, shear-strain rate, radial strength, and wall shear stresses, which need to be scientifically explored. To understand the material (Fe-18Cr-14Ni-2.5Mo as stainless steel 316LVM) mechanical performance of the stent, a finite element analysis simulation model was established when exposed to pulsatile blood pressure. In this study, computational fluid dynamics model was generated to calculate the wall shear stresses and strain distribution in stented vessel carrying blood to heart. The analytical analysis of mechanical and hemodynamic conduct of a stent in this investigation may help for better designs of stent, and provide deeper comprehension to support clinical cardiovascular surgeons and guide potential therapeutic strategies.

Opis:
Composites and nanocomposites as commercially used engineering materials with continuous development, are important for rising market and industry needs. Significant role is played by polymers, whose consumption increases every year, thanks to low cost of production, economical processing and broad scope of material composition possibilities, including nanomaterials and basing on them nanocomposites. Nanocomposites, using power of nanotechnology, may improve physical, chemical and mechanical properties, comparing to composites. Investigation of structure and properties of such materials is necessary to obtain knowledge about phenomena at micro and nanoscale and gives opportunity to design and control structure, because the properties of any material depend on its matter. Polymer matrix nanocomposites are interesting and very promising class of polymer composites. Investigation of structure development due to different heat treatment and under different processing condition of injection molded specimens of polypropylene and montmorillonite composition has been performed. Dispersion of nanoreinforcement, in the shape of 2:1 layer silicates, was observed under transmission and scanning electron microscope. Application of advanced technology of multiplication of oriented layer mostly reinforcing and orienting micro and nanoparticles along polymeric specimen, allowed to obtain several layers and significantly reinforced material. Light microscope has been used for observation layered zone, visible just in polarization mode.
