Opis:
In the paper the recent trends in the fi eld of innovation in the EU are presented. The role of innovation in the European Union has been growing as one of the crucial factor of the development of the EU economy and society although it has never had a strong legal bases in the EU thirties. Its development has been stimulated mainly by the EU strategies, plans and initiatives but fi nally it became the legitimate part of the Research and Innovation policy of the EU. In the paper the main EU offi cial documents and the newest (2016) indicators of innovation relating to the EU regions has been analyzed and discussed. “The Innovation Union” and other suggestions of the Commission brought new solutions relating to innovation emphasizing the role of design management, digital design and open innovation. The organizational and esthetic design should be the central unit of a company while open innovation should be based on digital platforms applying the newest ICT technologies and social participation. Such paradigm of innovation is stimulating the development of modern industry (i.e. Industry 4.0) what should be taken under the consideration in Poland.

Industrial Policy in the European Union
Opis:
The aim of this paper is to present the European Union’s (EU) approach to Industry 4.0. In order to do this the term “four industrial revolutions” is defined first. The Industry 4.0 development has been made possible as a result of Internet and other ICT technologies which were developed in the late-20th and early-1st centuries and which are described here The concept of Industry 4.0 originated in Germany, where it brought a new way of organising industry. This idea has since spread around the world. To present the overview of Industry 4.0 in the EU the term “industry” is defined and its place within international classifications of economic activities shown. EU industrial policy is briefly described to make clear that industry is a subject of European competition law and, in fact, industry must cope with the transformation itself. However, there are many ways to support this process but mainly on three levels: national, regional and European. This is the subject of further discussion in this paper. European countries and regions are creating plans to foster the developments of this form of industry – something which is expected to increase industrial efficiency by around 30%. The EU is strongly supporting this process. So far the development of Industry 4.0 has been most advanced in Europe. The paper concludes with a brief comparison of developments with the US and China.

Sustainable development refers to the development of a business in such a way that future generations will be able to satisfy the same needs. This article describes how sustainable development can be measured by economic performance and a positive impact on the natural environment. A general indicator of a company’s environmental impact is presented in the article. It can be determined, on the one hand, by a company’s environmental impact, and on the other hand, by savings in the use of natural resources, which is associated with savings in a financial sense. Therefore, it can be used to analyze the progress of sustainability in terms of environmental and economic performance. The case study provides an example of how emissions and energy factors can be analyzed to form a synthetic indicator and create a general indicator.

Opis:
This article was motivated by the centenary (2018) of the seminal sociological monograph Polish Peasant in Europe and America by Thomas and Znaniecki (1918). It shows that classics can be not only occasionally referenced but also read in-depth with the new contemporary concept of social remittances embedded in transnational ties. Reaching for the Polish Peasant in Europe and America aimed this analysis to revisit the preceding passages of migration history and to revitalise the preliminary knowledge about human moves and social change. The article is a reminder and a positioner of Thomas and Znaniecki’s monograph in their contemporary migration historical writings of Central Europe, not commonly referenced in international sociology. The methodology of the qualitative content analysis with retrospective mapping the flow of information in the illustrative cases of migrant families applied in this article, helped to analyse resistance and changes of norms, values, practices and social capital affected by international migration and bundled as social remittances.

Opis:
Wynik profilowania mRNA wykazuje wartość predykcyjną odnośnie jakości materiału genetycznego i obecności mieszaniny płynów. Wyniki badań wykonanych w ramach projektu wskazują na potencjalną przydatność markerów HBB i HBA1 w rutynowych badaniach genetyczno-sądowych. Jednak niezbędne jest przeprowadzenie szerszego spektrum eksperymentów walidacyjnych, a szczególnie przeanalizowanie większej liczby rzeczywistych śladów biologicznych, dokładne określenie optymalnej ilości użytego RNA oraz sprawdzenie różnic osobniczych w poziomach ekspresji.
The aim of the project was to develop a specific and at the same time economical method for detecting human blood in biological traces based on analysis of haemoglobin mRNA with use of PCR reaction in real time and non-specific SYBR Green detector. The test, which has eventually been developed enabled simultaneous analysis of melting curves for three fragments of various lengths: HBB61, HBA197 and HBB503, as well as an additional reference gene: mRNA β-actin. A definite identification was possible already for 0,1 μl of blood. The method is tissue and species specific. The analysed mRNA markers are characterized by high stability, as compared to haemoglobin detected by standard methods. The result of mRNA profiling shows the predictive value as regards quality of genetic material and occurrence of mixture of liquids. Results of analyses performed during the project indicate potential usefulness of HBB and HBA1 markers in routine forensic genetic examinations. However, it is necessary to carry out a broader spectrum of validation experiments, and particularly to analyse a larger number of actual biological casework and precisely determining an optimal quantity of RNA and identifying ontogenetic differences in the levels of expression.
