The aim of this study was to determine the influence of social media on students’ awareness of responsible behaviour during the COVID-19 pandemic. The field study was carried out with a sample of 726 students from Northern Border University. Data were collected from electronically retrieved questionnaires via various communication channels and analysed using hierarchical linear regression. The study found a relationship between the use of social media sites and awareness among students, affected by age differences. With the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, universities face the challenge of ensuring precautionary guidelines to prevent the virus are followed while educating their students, and social media plays a significant role in disseminating this information. Therefore, studying how social media helps develop students’ awareness can contribute to addressing some of the problems faced by decisionmakers in Saudi universities.

Opis:
The purpose of this article is to investigate the formation of tourist-based destination brand brilliance as a differential advantage for a destination according to Alderson’s differential theory. This will be done via content generated on social media sites by both destination management organizations and tourists, and through the mediating role of three dimensions of Aaker’s brand equity model: awareness, image and perceived quality. Alderson’s differential theory in a tourism context, and investigating the brilliance aspect of a brand, are both new research areas. Data was collected by electronically distributing questionnaires to 398 WhatsApp and Telegram users in Iran. This study confirms the relationship between tourist-generated content and destination brand brilliance through the mediating roles of awareness, image and perceived quality, but the content generated by the destination management organization to make a destination brand brilliant is only possible through the mediating roles of image and perceived quality. There is also a significant positive relationship between the perceived quality of a destination and the formation of destination brand brilliance. The findings of this research will help destination management organizations to better think about, and better manage, content generated on social media sites by organizations and tourists to form brilliance for their destination brand.

Opis:
Th e article aims at investigating whether link-posting of Facebook users results in reproducing the hegemony of corporate-led mainstream cultural productions. A detailed analysis of 103 links shared 16,735 times by 6,344 Facebook users is presented. Th e following research fi nds that although a vast majority of the most oft en posted links points to corporate content, especially music videos, the proliferative power of Facebook enables some user-generated content to become enormously popular. Th is user-generated content represents mainly the ideas contrary to the ones dominating mainstream media. Links of this kind are more likely to be shared by older users. Th e reproduction of the corporate mainstream on Facebook is primarily due to female users, younger ones, users who inhabit larger cities, who have fewer friends, and are less culturally competent. Further analysis suggests that posting links to mainstream content may serve as a strategy of social compensation.
