The main propulsion engine is the heart of a vessel which carries the entire load of the ship and propels to move ahead. The main engine consists of various sub-systems, the fuel oil system is the most important one. Fuel oil system provides fuel to the engine via a fuel injector mounted on the engine cylinder head. During the voyage, the main engine of a ship encounters a variation in loads and stresses due to rough weather to harsh manoeuvring, which sometimes leads to the breakdown of the main engine. Fuel oil systems are identified as one of the main reasons for engine breakdown. Many accidents happened due to the failure of the main engine fuel oil system in the last two decades. To ensure safe and reliable main propulsion engine operation, it is required to assess the reliability of a fuel oil system. However, there is a significant lack of appropriate data to develop the reliability assessment techniques for fuel oil system. This study proposes appropriate data collection and analysis procedure for the reliability assessment of a fuel oil system. Data related to Failure Running Hours (FRH) of a fuel oil system is collected from 101 experienced marine engineers through a questionnaire. The collected data processed using a box plot and analysed for a normality test. It helps to identify the generalization of the data. Moreover, this study identified failure-prone components of a fuel oil system. The collected data will help in developing reliability assessment techniques for accurate reliability analysis of a fuel oil system. The identified failure-prone components will assist in future reliability analysis and risk mitigation strategies for improving the overall safety and reliability of the shipping industry.

The following paper introduces a retrofit proposal for marine fuel oil system arranged to burn heavy fuel oil and low-sulphur distillate grade. In the face of tighter requirements regarding sulphur content in fuel, which are obligatory both inside Emission Control Areas and among international waters, it is necessary to provide safe and efficient ship operation. Conventional methods for fuel change-over between heavy fuel oil and distillate grade are saddled with necessity of constant process control and compulsory engine load reduction during the realization of procedure. It ensures that maximum fuel temperature gradient amounts 2 °C/min, which protects injection system against thermal shock. The solution proposed by MAN Diesel & Turbo in cooperation with LEMAG Lehman & Michels turns mentioned procedure into unusual until now level thanks to guaranteed safety, control, smoothness and degree of automation. So-called Diesel Switch constitutes automatic fuel change-over system, which implements the process free from engine load factor. A built-in programmable logic controller and specially designed nonproportional valve enable to achieve smooth and linear characteristic of change. Furthermore, device controls other fuel oil system elements and also registers procedure run. The second element in retrofitted system concerns the way of distillate fuel cooling. Sulphur in the chemical bonds with other fuel components reveals lubricating properties. Reduction of its amount simultaneously with usage of low-viscosity distillate fuel creates a risk of damage to plunger and barrel assemblies. A guarantee of proper hydrodynamic lubrication film in injection system involves maintaining a minimal fuel viscosity of 2 cSt at engine inlet. Commonly used central cooling system on ships has a significant limitation. Water from low temperature cooling circuit, which provides a coolant cannot decrease fuel temperature below 40 °C. Applied solution proposed by Novenco is concerned with chilled water system assembly, which can cool down fuel even below 0 °C through vapour compression or an absorption cycle. As a result, low-sulphur fuel viscosity can be increased at any load independently of seawater temperature.

Effective and efficient maintenance is essential to ensure reliability of a ship's main propulsion system, which in turn is interdependent on the reliability of a number of associated sub- systems. A primary step in evaluating the reliability of the ship's propulsion system will be to evaluate the reliability of each of the sub- system. This paper discusses the methodology adopted to quantify reliability of one of the vital sub-system viz. the lubricating oil system, and development of a model, based on Markov analysis thereof. Having developed the model, means to improve reliability of the system should be considered. The cost of the incremental reliability should be measured to evaluate cost benefits. A maintenance plan can then be devised to achieve the higher level of reliability. Similar approach could be considered to evaluate the reliability of all other sub-systems. This will finally lead to development of a model to evaluate and improve the reliability of the main propulsion system.

In this article, the problem of microbial contamination occurring in the fuels and oils was presented. It shows the types of microorganisms and the conditions for their growth. Then the factors influencing the growth of bacteria in petroleum products were described in detail. In the next section the symptoms, development and contamination of petroleum products was discussed. The influence of microbial contamination on the marine engine fuel system and the problems that this brings were also presented. In the following part of the article, the impact of microbial contamination of fuel tanks and purifiers was described. Then the causes of sludge were discussed and contamination layers in the settling tanks were presented. In the next part of the article the fuel impact modelling of microbial contamination on filtration efficiency was performed. The modelling presented in the article is an example showing how undesirable phenomenon is the microbial contamination and how pollution affects the other elements of the entire system. As part of the modelling, numerical model of filtration with the solution was presented. Then analysis results on the basis of the impurities concentration characteristics in the fuel as a function of the fouling thickness in the partition of the filter is performed. The development of impurities was divided into three stages. For each case the line trend and forecast further growth after the application of measures to prevent the proliferation of microorganisms were designated. The article was completed applications, of which the most important is the need to combat harmful microorganisms. And besides, there is a need to find new methods of combating microbial contamination that will not destroy beneficial microorganisms and will be environmentally friendly.

During the operation a gas turbine engine, a more modest method of research is brought into effect. One of the basic methods of estimating the technical condition of gas turbine engines is oil analysis. The x-ray method of radioisotope fluorescence was used to estimate the technical condition of gas turbine engines based on oil research. This method has also been satisfactorily used in aircraft engine diagnosis. This paper presents the method of diagnosis of the bearings of marine gas turbines based on studies on the mechanical contamination in oil. The results of oil mechanical contaminant research vs. time of engine work are presented. Based on experiments, the resulting analytical function that makes calculating the diagnosis measure of the gas turbine engine bearings system was worked out.
W eksploatacji okrętowych silników turbinowych powszechnie wprowadzane są coraz nowsze metody badań diagnostycznych. Jednak jedną z podstawowych metod nadzoru stanu technicznego silników są analizy olejowe. W badaniach diagnostycznych silników turbinowych na podstawie zanieczyszczeń metalicznych w oleju zastosowano, wcześniej wdrożoną w lotnictwie wojskowym, metodę rentgenowskiej fluorescencji radioizotopowej XRF. Metoda ta stanowi użyteczne narzędzie w ocenie stanu technicznego układów mechanicznych silnika. W artykule przedstawiono krótki opis metodyki badań diagnozowania stanu technicznego okrętowych turbinowych silników spalinowych na podstawie badań pierwiastków Fe i Cu w oleju. Otrzymane wyniki badań ekspertmentalnych przedstawiono w postaci linii trendu wybranych pierwiastków w funkcji czasu pracy silnika. Ponadto zaprezentowano, opracowany na podstawie badań oleju, parametr diagnostyczny łożysk silnika.

Podczas pracy silników lotniczych (turbinowych i tłokowych) występują procesy zużycia w węzłach tribologicznych, które w znaczny sposób wpływają na niezawodność i bezpieczeństwo eksploatacji statków powietrznych. W artykule przedstawiono aspekty diagnostyki tribologicznej silników lotniczych bazującej na okresowych badaniach próbek środka smarnego w laboratoriach. Na początku przedstawiono obiekt badań z uwzględnieniem cech konstrukcyjnych, parametrów pracy i stosowanych środków smarnych oraz podstawy teoretyczne badań tribologicznych. Następnie opisano metody badań stosowane w diagnostyce tribologicznej silników lotniczych, uwzględniając procesy starzenia i zanieczyszczenia środków smarnych, normy, metodyki badawcze i doświadczenia eksploatacyjne opisane w literaturze, w tym krzywą podatności eksploatacyjnej. Możliwości metod badawczych zobrazowano wynikami z okresowych badań tribologicznych silników turbinowych, uzyskanymi w akredytowanym laboratorium diagnostyki systemów tribologicznych. W dalszej części wskazano rolę analizy trendu i kryteriów statystycznych w procesie diagnozowania i zarządzania ryzykiem eksploatacji silników lotniczych, eksploatowanych zarówno według stanu technicznego, jak i planowanych obsług technicznych (resursów). Zasygnalizowano możliwość poprawy wiarygodności diagnostyki tribologicznej silników lotniczych na bazie doświadczeń z przemysłu – monitorowania wybranych parametrów tribologicznych w czasie rzeczywistym. W podsumowaniu wskazano na wysoką efektywność i rolę diagnostyki tribologicznej w utrzymaniu bezpieczeństwa eksploatacji floty różnych typów statków powietrznych.
During the operation of aero-engines (turbine and piston engines), wear processes occur in tribological nodes, which significantly affect the reliability and safety of flight operations. This paper presents aspects of tribological diagnostics of aircraft engines based on periodic testing of lubricant samples in laboratories. Firstly, the object of research with its design features, operating parameters and used lubricants is presented, as well as the theoretical basis of tribological testing. This was followed by a description of the testing methods used in tribological diagnostics of aero-engines, taking into account lubricant degradation and contamination processes, standards, testing methodologies and operating experience described in the literature, including the machine failure curve. Next, the capabilities of the testing methods are illustrated with results from periodic tribological testing of turbine engines, obtained at an accredited tribological systems diagnostics laboratory. In the following section, the role of trend analysis and statistical criteria in the process of diagnosing and managing the risk of operation of aero-engines, exploited according to both their technical condition and planned maintenance, was indicated. Then, the possibility of improving the reliability of tribological diagnostics of aero-engines on the basis of experience from industry - real-time monitoring of selected tribological parameters - was signalled. In conclusion, the high efficiency and role of tribological diagnostics in maintaining the operational safety of a fleet of different aircraft types is indicated.

The paper presents selected issues related to cylinder lubrication of the dual fuel, two stroke, high pressure fuel supply engine (MAN MEGI). I showed causes and effects of incorrect liner lubrication. These are based on results of sweep tests and scavenge space inspections carried out during first weeks of vessel’s operation, following delivery to the Fleet. The paper also describes methods required in avoidance of under and over lubrication, including test procedures. Operational observations were provided. Recommendations for system operation are presented.

Basic notions of the ageing multistate systems safety analysis are introduced. The system components and the system multistate safety functions are defined. The mean values and variances of the multistate systems lifetimes in the safety state subsets and the mean values of their lifetimes in the particular safety states are defined. The multi-state system risk function and the moment of exceeding by the system the critical safety state are introduced. The exemplary safety structures of the multistate systems with ageing components are defined and their safety functions are determined. As a particular case, the safety functions of the considered multistate systems composed of components having exponential safety functions are determined. Applications of the proposed multistate system safety models to the evaluation and prediction of the safty characteristics of the oil piping transportation system is presented as well.

The article refers to the common task of lubrication system. The fast development of the world's maritime sector, makes competition among countries increasing. Because of the deterioration of the global economy, the shipping companies, ship-owners want to reduce freight rates, to meet safety requirements, as well as improving conditions of exploitation and operating the machines to prevent the pollution of the marine environment. While exploiting the diesel engine in general and Sulzer diesel engines in particular, ship owners are always eager to reduce the operating cost and still ensure the engine running are safe and reliable. Provide an example of how to calculate the amount of cylinder lubricating oil according to the theory of slow-speed marine engines. The article refers to the costs of the operation and exploitation of ship, offer solution to reduce extraction costs by optimizing the amount of lubricating oil for the cylinders. The analyses in the article are based on Sulzer RTA engines. The article also refers to the level of actual lubrication oil for the cylinders of slow-speed marine engines during operation and exploitation based on the practical experience of the chief engineers, who had ever worked with these engines. The optimal adjustment of cylinder lubricating oil of Sulzer RTA diesel engines to reduce the operating cost but still ensure the engine running are safe and reliable and the problems need to be noted in the process of adjustment.

The paper presents an analysis of the constructions of oil pumps for an aircraft compression ignition engine. It is a two-stroke liquid-cooled engine with a power of 100 kW. The system has 3 cylinders and 6 opposed pistons. The paper estimates the required oil pump capacity to make the engine components well-lubricated. Next, automotive oil pumps for diesel engines are analyzed to select a correct pump for aircraft diesel engine applications. Three pump constructions of different constructions and dimensions of a rotor were select-ed. A measurement bench was designed and built to test these oil pumps in the range of pump shaft speeds from 0 to 4500 rpm and volumetric flow rate up to 150 l/min. The bench also enables stabilization of oil temperature at the required level within the range from 30 to 120oC. In addition, flow resistance through engine slide bearings was simulated by changing the position of a throttling valve at the pump output to regulate pressure in the range of 0-700 kPa. The obtained capacity characteristics of individual pumps versus on oil pressure and temperature allowed us to find an appropriate oil pump to make individual engine nodes well-lubricated.

The paper explores the mathematical and computer modeling of complex technical systems related to their operation processes. The complex technical system with the reliability structure and components’ reliability parameters changing at the various operation states is defined. The selected system operation process parameters and the hypothetical distribution functions of the conditional sojourn times at the operation states are defined and identified. The reliability functions of the multistate system and components are introduced and their parameters are identified. The Monte Carlo simulation method is proposed to the complex system reliability evaluation. Moreover, the proposed theoretical and simulation tools are supported with the practical application to the multi-state port oil piping transportation system reliability analysis.

Analizowano też podejście do rozwiązania bardzo ważnego, praktycznego problemu powiązania niezawodności systemów z ich procesem eksploatacji. Zastosowanie przedstawionej metody zostało omówione na przykładzie oceny niezawodności i gotowości portowego systemu transportu paliwa.
The paper proposes the use of the limit reliability functions in the systems' reliability and availability evaluation and semi-markov processes application for their operation modelling. The paper offers an approach to the solution of a practically very important problem of linking the systems' reliability and their operation processes. An application of the proposed method is illustrated in the reliability, risk and availability evaluation of a port oil transportation system.

In this research a non-destructive, rapid and cost effective examination machine for the estimation of the ripeness fraction, oil content and free fatty acid level in oil palm fresh fruits bunch was developed. The automatic machine-vision based in- spection system provided consistency, rapid estimation and accep- table accuracy results in non-dest ructive manner. Fresh fruits bunch samples from Tenera cultivar (7 to 20 years trees) were taken from Cimulang plantation, Bogor, Indonesia. Two statistical analysis methods were used: a forward stepwise multiple linear regression analysis and a multilayer-perceptron artificial neural network analysis. The best prediction of ripeness and oil content models were obtained using the latter method, while the best free fatty acid prediction model was developed by the first method. The models were then employed in the machine-vision inspection systems of the machine. The system best prediction accuracy of ripeness, oil content and free fatty acid models was 93.5, 96.41, and 89.32%, with standard error of prediction being 0.065, 0.044 and 0.068, respectively. The system was tested through a series of field tests, and successfully examined more than 12 t of fruits bunch per hour, without causing damage.

In order to increase the efficiency of implementing the emergency response measures, the emergency response plan drawing up, revision and implementation at oil production enterprises, it is expedient to use an analogue of the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, which generates an interactive mode that allows interaction with the person in charge for localizing and eliminating the consequences of accidents that negatively affect, inter alia, the environmental situation. The SCADA system was developed on the basis of the approved document "Emergency Response Plan" and provides for data exchange with the automated systems of the enterprise to form a complete description of the situation for the person in charge for localizing and eliminating the consequences of accidents. The automated system application software was developed using high-level programming languages (Embarcadero Delphi or analogues) and technologies for direct access to the Oracle database management system. The use of an automated system is feasible for large enterprises of the extractive and processing industries with the possibility of integration into the automated Manufacturing Execution System (MES-systems) of an enterprise.

The climate-weather change process for the critical infrastructure operating area is considered and its states are defined. Further, the semi-Markov process is used to create a general probabilistic model of the climate-weather change process for the critical infrastructure operating area. To construct this model the vector of probabilities of the climate-weather change process staying at the initials climate-weather states, the matrix of probabilities of the climate-weather change process transitions between the climate-weather states, the matrix of conditional distribution functions and the matrix of conditional density functions of the climate-weather change process conditional sojourn times at the climate-weather states are defined. Preliminary applications of the proposed model to the climate-weather change process for the port oil transportation system operation area are presented.

In the present work, the effect of three insoluble additives densities on reducing the drag of crude oil was investigated. The objective of the present work is to evaluate the effect of the insoluble additive’s densities on their drag reduction efficiency in hydrocarbon flow medium. Three powders with different densities are chosen, namely carbon powder, glass powder, and copper powder, with a density of 1710 kg/m3 , 2550 kg/m3 , and 8950 kg/m3 , respectively. The turbulence flow environment was created in a custom-made rotating disc apparatus with a maximum rotation speed of 300 rpm. To evaluate the effect of the powder density, the particle's size was chosen to be 100 µm. All the solutions were tested at the exact operating conditions with a rotation speed ranging between 200 to 2200 rpm. The experimental results showed a clear effect of the powder density on the drag reduction performance. The glass powders showed the highest drag reduction effect, while the copper and carbon powders were lower. The effect of the degree of turbulence on the drag reduction performance of the powders was clear, where the interaction between the powders and the turbulence structures (eddies) governed the turbulence-suppression efficiency of the additives.

In the paper a proposal to use the method of the spectral analysis of vibration of torsion lines of embankments for signaling was described qualities of work of the arrangement of feeding with the fuel oil of the marine diesel engine. Loss of the evenness of the dose of fuel was treated as the first signal of arising damage. In the presented conception devices were applied previously diagnostic measure drawn up (SWH — rate of harmonic contents). The paper is finishing the description of the action of discussed device.
W artykule przedstawiono propozycję wykorzystania metody analizy widmowej drgań skrętnych linii wałów do sygnalizowania jakości pracy układu zasilania paliwem okrętowego tłokowego silnika spalinowego. Utratę równomierności dawki paliwa potraktowano jako pierwszy sygnał powstającego uszkodzenia. W przedstawionej koncepcji zastosowano uprzednio opracowaną miarę diagnostyczną (SWH — współczynnik zawartości harmonicznych). Artykuł kończy opis działania omawianego urządzenia.

This article addresses selected methodological aspects of a process based management system based on analysis of hazards and threats and risk evaluation for an oil port infrastructure in context of insurance. The oil port terminal is regarded as important system of the critical infrastructure that require careful system oriented approach to deal with integrated aspects of environmental, safety and security management to reduce risk of potential consequences of abnormalities and accidents, especially major accidents with catastrophic consequences. The risk of potential economic losses should be also minimised applying in practice an effective business continuity management system. Careful evaluations of relevant risks carried out for the oil port infrastructure are crucial also for the insurance company. Some requirements and activities of the risk engineer and the underwriter in the insurance process are outlined including important factors influencing risks. It is emphasised that determining and evaluating a set of key performance indicators based on data from site audits and analyses can be useful for the safety management of the oil port and its insurance.

Shiporigin operational discharges of oil mainly include the discharge of bilge water from motor rooms, fuel oil sludge and oily ballast water from fuel tanks. Also, various tankers can illegally discharge of tank-washing residues. Accidental discharges can appear when ship collide or come in distress at sea (e.g. engine breakdown, fire, explosion, pipeline breaks). There is necessity of continuous inspection of marine shipping routes, especially in environmentally sensitive areas (e.g. whole Baltic Sea). If protection against oil pollution is considered - the coastal nations of the North Sea are formed in the Bonn Agreement, whereas coastal nations of the Baltic Sea are formed in the HELCOM convention. Both organizations carrying out the international aerial surveillances and manage international oil-combat systems. Unfortunately, air surveillance can operate mainly in good weather, good visibility and in daylight. The surface of the whole world is observed independently on the time of day and weather by antennas of Synthetic Aperture Radars (SAR) of dozen military satellites with resolution of several meters. Some civil satellites equipped with SAR, supply every few days a set of signals which in ground-based centres are transformed to image of a define area of the sea surface. In these images, the shapes of places, which can be interpreted as polluted by an oil film, are shown. The system is introduced after EU directive and managed by European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA). EMSA has developed the CleanSeaNet service - a satellite based monitoring system for marine oil spill detection. Advantages and limitations of the SAR-methods are discussed in this study. Physical, meteorological and hydrological as well as organizational conditions for effective use of this system are considered.

Maintenance of oil-lubricated systems plays a significant role in reducing unexpected system failures and improving machine availability. This paper deals with the oil-lubricated systems subject to gradual degradation that revealed by metal wear debris monitored using oil analysis. Oil-lubricated systems usually undertake several preventive maintenances during operation, after each maintenance, the system typical restores to an intermediate state between good-as-new state and bad-as-old state due to system aging such as cumulative wear. Furthermore, oil-lubricated systems often operate continuously in mission execution with availability constraints. However, existing literature still lacks a method to integrate the availability constraints with the system aging into the cause of optimizing the maintenance policy. To fill this gap, this paper develops a maintenance policy optimization method to determine the optimal maintenance threshold joint considering the availability constraints and the system aging. A case study of the power-shift steering transmission systems modelled by a wiener process is presented to illustrate the proposed method in practical application.
Konserwacja układów smarowanych olejem odgrywa istotną rolę w eksploatacji maszyn, umożliwiając zmniejszenie liczby nieoczekiwanych uszkodzeń i poprawiając dostępność maszyn. Niniejszy artykuł dotyczy układów smarowanych olejem ulegających stopniowej degradacji, którą można mierzyć za pomocą analizy oleju, monitorując zawartość drobin metalu powstających na skutek zużycia. Podczas swojej pracy, układy smarowane olejem zwykle poddawane są kilkakrotnie przeglądom zapobiegawczym. Po każdej konserwacji, układ wraca do stanu pośredniego między stanem fabrycznej nowości (as good as new) a stanem "jak przed konserwacją" (as bad as old), co wynika ze starzenia się systemu, m.in. skumulowanego zużycia. Co więcej, systemy smarowane olejem często działają w sposób ciągły, wykonując misje z ograniczeniami dostępności. Jednak w istniejącej literaturze wciąż brakuje metody, która pozwalałaby na zintegrowane ujęcie ograniczeń dostępności i starzenia w celu optymalizacji polityki utrzymania ruchu. Aby wypełnić tę lukę, w niniejszym artykule opracowano metodę optymalizacji polityki utrzymania ruchu, dzięki której można określić optymalny próg konserwacji z uwzględnieniem zarówno ograniczeń dostępności jak i starzenia się systemu. Możliwość praktycznego zastosowania zaproponowanej metody zilustrowano na podstawie studium przypadku układów przekładni kierowniczych zamodelowanych za pomocą procesu Wienera.

With the advancement of technology and the implementation of contemporary techniques and system controls, conventional methods of on-site monitoring have been replaced by remote supervision, which offers a number of advantages. As a result, it appears that a suitable strategy utilizing these contemporary approaches and incorporating information technology into the industry is required. The author's goal in this work is to describe a device for remotely transferring cathodic protection information from oil and gas pipelines to a platform server through the internet and sending alerts by SMS and e-mail. This system was developed and tested in Iraq's Al-Ahdab oil field. The system provides real-time, 24/7 assessment data with an accuracy of 99.7%.

Further, the cost analysis and optimisation of critical infrastructure operation process impacted by climateweather change is proposed and applied to the considered piping system.

The main objective of this paper is to model an offshore oil production system subjected to age-based preventive maintenance strategies by Petri Nets and to evaluate its availability by Monte Carlo Simulation. The oil processing and the separation equipment with their reliability and maintainability characteristics, the corrective and preventive maintenance policies and the operational dependencies that lead to the reconfiguration of the system after the failure are implemented. A special attention is given to the effect of age-based perfect and imperfect preventive maintenance strategies on the system availability. The maintenance actions consider the components’ age thresholds and an age reduction ratio. Moreover, the variation of the oil and gas flows from the well over the years is accounted by the model. As case study, an offshore production installation that operates in a Brazilian oilfield is adopted. An elasticity analysis on the model parameters is conducted to assess influence of the maintenance policy on the system availability and on the oil production.

This work proposes smart hardware and software components of the automated control and monitoring information self-adaptive system for the fountain exploitation mode based on adjusting the valve according to the change of values of the pressure sensors, flow rate, temperature and other parameters. The core of the self-adaptive computer system is an "intelligence" which is implemented on the platform for a more proactive approach to the management of such elements as sensors and intellectual controller devices which interact via wireless self-organized network can ultimately lead to a more flexible data routing, precise analysis and prediction and finally increase oil production rate. The primary component of the self-adaptive system is the developed intellectual controller device based on the principle of predictive logic to improve access and performance of production assets, in particular, automatically and semi-automatically regulated valves. This approach considerably facilitates process of monitoring of oil deposit and raises level of reliability of the whole information system.
W pracy zaproponowano sprzętowe i software'owe komponenty samodostosowującego się zautomatyzowanego systemu sterowania i monitorowania informacji w przypadku zastosowania techniki fontannowej opartej na dostosowaniu zaworu na podstawie odczytów z czujników ciśnienia, prędkości przepływu, temperatury i innych parametrów. Istotą samodostosowującego się układu komputerowego jest wbudowana "inteligencja" w celu uzyskania bardziej proaktywnego podejścia do zarządzania takimi elementami, jak czujniki czy inteligentne urządzenia sterujące, które reagując przez zorganizowaną przez siebie bezprzewodową sieć mogą prowadzić do łatwiejszego przepływu danych, dokładniejszej analizy i predykcji oraz w konsekwencji podniesienia produkcji. Głównym składnikiem samo dostosowującego się układu jest opracowany inteligentny sterownik oparty na logice predykcyjnej, którego celem jest poprawa dostępu i działania zasobów produkcyjnych, szczególnie zaworów z regulacją automatyczną i półautomatyczną. Podejście to znacznie ułatwia monitorowanie złóż ropy naftowej i zwiększa wiarygodność całego systemu informatycznego.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki pomiarów potencjału elektrycznego i momentu hamującego w układzie obracający się wał–olej–uszczelnienie wargowe. Podczas ruchu obrotowego wału w wyniku triboelektryzacji są generowane ładunki elektryczne, które wytwarzają pole elektryczne w filmie olejowym. Część linii pola elektrycznego wytwarzanego przez naelektryzowane cząstki oleju zamyka się do pierścienia usztywniającego uszczelnienia wargowego i indukuje w nim potencjał elektryczny, który jest mierzony elektrometrem. Wartość i znak potencjału elektrycznego zależy od rodzaju oleju, prędkości obrotowej wału i temperatury oleju. Pod działaniem siły Coulomba część naelektryzowanych cząstek oraz cząstki polarne są przyciągane do powierzchni wału, gdzie już istnieje elektryczna warstwa podwójna, którą dodatkowe ładunki „wzmacniają”. Położenie i wartość pozostałej części ładunków elektrycznych w objętości oleju ma charakter stochastyczny i rozkład ładunków nie jest jednorodny wskutek dyfuzji cząsteczek i ruchu cieczy, wywołanego ruchem obrotowym wału. W związku z tym można się spodziewać, że w filmie olejowym mogą występować lokalne zagęszczenia i rozrzedzenia oleju, a tym samym wzrosty lub spadki jego lepkości, co z kolei implikuje wzrost lub spadek wartości momentu hamującego.
The paper presents the results of measurements of the electric potential and braking torque in the friction junction, which is in a rotating metal shaft–base oil–rotary lip seal system for different ranges of the base oil’s temperature and of the shaft’s angular velocities. The system is an interfacial one and consists of two interfaces: shaft–oil film and oil film–lip seal. When a shaft rotates, intense tribocharging occurs, and an electric field forms that generates the flow of charge within an oil film between two electrical double layers at both surfaces of a shaft and a lip of a rotary lip seal. It is of interest that, within a narrow range of the oil’s temperature, a local change in the rotating torque occurs – a local extremum (minimum) – while the potential difference changes its sign from negative to positive. In the research, the synthetic PAG (polyalkylene glycol) and PAO base oils and a fluorocarbon rotary lip seal are used.

The paper presents the results of many years of experience in studying the efficiency of sealing units in the conditions of their operation in the oil and gas production system, as well as the influence of technological parameters that ensure normal operation and protect them from failure due to leakage through the working surface of the seals in the friction zone. In addition, according to the results of practical studies, it has been established that, in order to improve the elastic properties, for example, of cup springs of a direct-flow valve, we calculated heat treatment of the operational values of spring compression for various material thicknesses. The work of the elastic elements of the packer was improved mainly by the design, and the optimal parameters for the development of the elastic element of the packer were determined. The study of the stress-strain state of the sealing element of packers during setting and improving its performance is of both practical and scientific interest. One of the factors that significantly affect operation of pumps is the fluid leakage in valve assemblies in order to identify the effect of the above parameters on tightness based on a preliminary theoretical analysis. Comparison of data during the study showed that the flow rate of work with low viscosities is greater than with high viscosities. The technological processes of hardening the parts of the shut-off assembly of X-mas tree valves, to increase their reliability, are considered. The dependence of the compression force of the spring and its deformation because of geometric parameters of the disk springs has been determined; it has been found that the residual deformation of the disk spring after collapse has a negative effect on tightness. Calculations show that the amount of leakage of the elastic elements in the sealing assembly should not exceed ≤0.309, since the seal at the value of elastic energy deformation provides a self-compacting mode. Thus, the degree of uneven pressing of the seat to the surface of the gate and its regulation to prevent leakage is practically determined.
Artykuł przedstawia wyniki wieloletnich doświadczeń w badaniu skuteczności zespołów uszczelniających, w warunkach ich pracy w systemie wydobywczym ropy i gazu, jak również wpływ parametrów technologicznych zapewniających ich normalną eksploatację i zabezpieczających je przed awarią spowodowaną wyciekiem przez powierzchnię roboczą uszczelnienia w strefie tarcia. Ponadto, zgodnie z wynikami badań o charakterze praktycznym, ustalono, że aby poprawić właściwości sprężyste, np. sprężyn talerzowych zaworu bezpośredniego przepływu, obliczono obróbkę cieplną wartości eksploatacyjnych ściśnięcia sprężyny dla różnych grubości materiału. Praca elementów sprężystych uszczelniacza została poprawiona głównie dzięki projektowi oraz ustalono optymalne parametry dla budowy elementu sprężystego uszczelniacza. Badania stanu naprężenie-odkształcenie elementu uszczelniającego uszczelniacza w czasie posadowienia oraz poprawa jego działania są interesujące zarówno ze względów praktycznych, jak i naukowych. Jednym z czynników znacząco wpływających na pracę pomp jest wyciek płynu w zespołach zaworów, co pozwoliło na określenie wpływu powyższych parametrów na szczelność w oparciu o wstępną analizę teoretyczną. Porównanie danych w czasie badania wykazało, że prędkość przepływu pracy z niskimi lepkościami jest większa niż z wysokimi lepkościami. Rozważane są procesy technologiczne utwardzania części zespołu odcinającego zaworów choinkowych w celu zwiększenia ich niezawodności. Ustalono zależność siły ściskania sprężyny i jej odkształcenia ze względu na parametry geometryczne sprężyn talerzowych; stwierdzono, że odkształcenie resztkowe sprężyny talerzowej po zgnieceniu ma negatywny wpływ na szczelność. Obliczenia wykazują, że wielkość wycieku elementów sprężystych w zespole uszczelniającym nie powinna przekraczać ≤0,309, gdyż uszczelnienie przy wartości odkształcenia energii sprężystej zapewnia tryb samoczynnego zagęszczania. Tak więc stopień nierównomiernego dociśnięcia gniazda do powierzchni zasuwy i jego regulacja w celu przeciwdziałania wyciekowi został praktycznie określony.

The paper presents the results of an experiment conducted on two cargo ships – a 5300 TEU container with a steam heating system and a 7500 dwt general cargo ship with a thermal oil system. On both ships research has been carried out using specially designed measuring equipment. After gathering data about flow velocity and temperatures (steam/ cooling water/ thermal oil/ seawater/ outside air), calculations have been done, resulting in histograms. For both types of histograms (heat demand and service time), the probability density function was fitted, using the K-S statistical test. The last step was comparison of the probability distribution mean to seawater and the outside air temperatures by linear regression and the coefficient of determination. The dependencies between the mentioned temperatures and heat demand were noted.

The use of diesel oil and methanol mixture in a Diesel engine requires modernization of old fuel injection control systems or development of new ones. Therefore, few options of structural solutions of the fuel injection system have been developed. The objective of the paper was to develop a structure of control elements of fuel injection in a Diesel engine which works with diesel oil and methanol mixtures, diesel oil and biogas mixtures, to check their practical utility and formulate indications. The control systems of multi-fuel Diesel and gas engines as well as two types of submerged high-pressure regulators were discussed. Characteristics of engine power, torque, unit and hour fuel consumption in the function of rotational speed with the use of Diesel D-21A1 engine were defined. The impact of methanol addition to diesel oil on the power and other performance indexes of a Diesel engine were determined. Two structural variants of the submerged fuel regulator were positively evaluated. The described solutions obtained a patent right and a patent protection and have been introduced to production in the Flow Machines Unit in Nikopol (Russia) and are used by the Central Scientific and Research Institute of Diesel Fuels in Saint Petersburg with work on improvement of Diesel engines.
Zastosowanie mieszanki oleju napędowego i metanolu w silniku Diesla wymaga modernizacji starych lub opracowania nowych systemów regulacyjnych wtrysku paliwa. W tym celu opracowano kilka wariantów rozwiązań konstrukcyjnych systemu wtrysku paliwa. Celem pracy było opracowanie konstrukcji elementów regulacyjnych podawania paliwa w silniku Diesla pracującym na mieszankach oleju napędowego i metanolu oraz oleju napędowego i biogazu, sprawdzenie ich praktycznej przydatności i sformułowanie zaleceń. Omówiono systemy regulacyjne silnika Diesla wielopaliwowego, gazowego oraz dwa typy nurnikowych regulatorów wysokociśnieniowych. Sporządzono charakterystyki mocy silnika, momentu obrotowego, jednostkowego i godzinowego zużycia paliwa w funkcji prędkości obrotowej z użyciem silnika Diesla D-21A1. Określono wpływ dodatku metanolu do oleju napędowego na moc i inne wskaźniki eksploatacyjne silnika Diesla. Opracowane dwa warianty konstrukcyjne zespołu nurnikowego regulatora paliwowego uzyskały pozytywną ocenę. Opisane rozwiązania uzyskały świadectwa autorskie oraz ochronę patentową i zostały wdrożone do produkcji w Zakładzie Aparatury Przepływowej w Nikopolu (Rosja) i są wykorzystywane przez Centralny Naukowo-Badawczy Instytut Paliw Diesla w Sankt Petersburgu przy pracach nad doskonaleniem silników Diesla.

The issues connected with the amount of lube oil in engine oil system are real problems in marine diesel engines maintenance process. The amount of lube oil in circulation influences its quality and consequently the wear of lubricated parts. That amount still changes and is connected with lubricating oil refilling strategy. The results of simulation carried out for SULZER 8S20U and PIELSTICK 12PC2-5V engines allowed to determine the influence of lubricating oil refilling strategy on the amount of lube oil in circulation. Frequent topping-up at regular intervals can be arranged to maintain the sump working capacity at the chosen percentage of the design maximum (for example 90 per cent), while a significantly delayed topping-up might allow the working capacity to be reduced to as low as about 50 per cent of the maximum. Thus a significantly reduced lubricant amount may have a disadvantageous influence on engine elements wear (i.e. piston rings, cylinder liners) and consequently cause the growth of the engine overhaul costs, although in far perspective, it would be difficult to connect that fact with the amount of oil in circulation. On the other hand in small output trunk piston engines without sump tanks, delayed topping-up and operation with minimum oil level could give some economic and ecological advantages resulting from reduced oil consumption. But in marine conditions (rolling and trim changes) it would be very hazardous for the engine safety operation.

In the paper is presented experimental analysis and diagnostics of insulating system oil-paper for power transformers. In the first part of the paper is described base theory about measurement and diagnostics insulating part (oil and paper) of transformers. In the other two parts of the paper is presented experimental results of the diagnostic measurement for the transformer 22/0.4 kV at constant temperature. Specifically, in the second part is described measuring time method of insulating diagnostics - return voltage measurement (RVM). This method is used for analysis of condition of paper moisture of high-voltage equipment. In the third part is described measuring method of insulating frequency diagnostics - frequency domain spectroscopy (FDS). This method is used for analysis insulating condition of high-voltage equipment with insulating oil-paper. The both measuring methods are unique in terms of analysis of insulating system of oil power transformers. In comparison with other methods, the RVM and FDS methods it is possible comparison and evaluate the moisture state of the dielectric paper of the power transformer with high reliability and accurate. Their reliability in determining moisture in paper was shown by determining the same result (3.5%) on the same measured transformer.

The article characterises the properties of steam and special thermal oils as the basic heating media on motor ships. The features of the heating installations have been presented with the particular attention drawn to thermal oil installations in which exhaust gas heaters have been employed. Also an example of the comparative exergetic analysis has been included demonstrating the comparison between steam generation in exhaust gas boiler and oil heating system in the heater, assuming the identical heat flux transferred in the boiler and the heater from the exhaust gas to the heating medium (steam and thermal oil) and assuming identical increase of exhaust gas entropy in the heat exchangers under examination.
W referacie scharakteryzowane zostały własności pary wodnej i specjalnych olejów grzewczych jako podstawowych czynników grzewczych na statkach motorowych. Przedstawiono cechy instalacji grzewczych ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem instalacji olejowych, w których występują nagrzewnice utylizacyjne. Zamieszczono także przykład porównawczej analizy egzergetycznej systemu wytwarzania pary w kotle utylizacyjnym oraz systemu podgrzewania oleju w nagrzewnicy przy założeniu jednakowego strumienia ciepła przekazywanego w kotle i nagrzewnicy od spalin do czynnika grzewczego (pary wodnej i oleju) oraz przy założeniu jednakowego przyrostu entropii spalin w rozpatrywanych wymiennikach ciepła.

The important role in the proper functioning of combustion engines plays the quality of lubricates oil. However, the quality of oil changes with the time of exploitation. Therefore, several parameters for examination of oil quality were determined; however, the indicator for quick and efficient tracking of evolution of oil with exploitation time is still searched. Taking into account the complex composition of oils, the ability of oils components to absorb light in various wavelengths is considered. In the article absorption properties of oils is discussed in relation to the time of circulation of oil in the engine lubricate system. For this study, two lubricate oils designated to lubricate the cylinder of vessel engines with different brightness and transparency were used. Oil samples were dissolved in organic solvent –n-hexane and several oil concentration were prepared based on dilution method. Absorbance spectra for eachsamples of oil were registered in the range of wavelength 240-600 nm. Obtained results indicate the changes of value of absorbance in relation to the kind of oil; however, the shape of absorbance spectra is independent from the kind of oil. For studied kinds of oil, characteristic peak independent from the kind of oil located at 260 nm was determined. Based on Lambert-Beer law absorption coefficient was identified as a potential indicator to oil quality evaluation with the time of exploitation in the engine system. Preliminary test for two fresh lubricate oils allow to conclude that absorption coefficient for selected wavelength located at 260 nm could be a sensitive parameter for quick estimating the degree of deterioration of the oil in engine system.

Stacja ma postać pływającej platformy i przeznaczona jest do stosowania na akwenach lądowych (rzeki, jeziora). Podstawowym wymogiem konstrukcyjnym jest autonomiczność oraz bezobsługowość urządzenia. Omówiono zastosowane rozwiązania konstrukcyjne w aspekcie konstrukcji mechanicznej, systemu zasilania oraz metody wykrywania zanieczyszczeń ropopochodnych.
This paper describes a research problem which should be undertaken to create a prototype structure and practical implementation of an autonomous floating station destined for an automatic oil spill detection system. The device has the form of a floating platform, applicable for use on inland waters (lakes, rivers). The main requirement for such a device is that it should be autonomous and not require maintenance. The paper describes in detail the solutions applied, in particular with respect to the mechanical construction, photovoltaic power supply system and method of oil spill detection.

The paper describes the problem of crude oil transfer in a port oil terminal and includes the safety analysis of this operation and analysis of potential causes and possible scenarios of oil spill events in a port terminal. The operation process of crude oil transfer is described and its statistical identification is given. The reliability and availability analysis of the system of crude oil transfer in a port terminal is performed. Moreover, analysis of crude oil transfer process taking into account the human factor is provided. The Fault Tree Analysis and sensitivity analysis for oil spill event in a port terminal is proposed to identify and analyse potential causes and possible scenarios of oil spill. Introducing methods for the prevention of oil spills, special attention is paid to safety procedures during liquid cargo transfer. Technical solutions used in oil terminals are described and recommendation regarding the Emergency Shutdown System are given. Additionally, associated safety systems, such as surge relief system, are described. Emphasizing the role of human factor in the process of crude oil transfer and its safety, trainings on the Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator are proposed to improve skills and knowledge of personnel on board and ashore.
