The article is the analysis of women’s lager narrations that reflect the procedure of shaving hair applied to female lager prisoners. It shows cultural, social and psychological meanings of this procedure, presents it as the element of the wide scale lager violence strategy, degradation ritual, the form of female identity and intimacy violation. Through the presentation of various circumstances in which women were shaved in concentration camps the text presents the situation complexity of the lager experience – its phases and the context. The article relates the variety of sources and includes the experiences of women of different nationalities, for example: German, Polish, Jewish.

The subject of the article are ekphrases of photograps in the album Słowo historii. Fotoeseje (Białystok 2015). This album contains of thirty anonymous photos documenting the return of Poles from Russia after World War I. The photos were taken in unidentified places und unknown times. Thereafter, they became the topic of ekphrastic narrations created by reporters and essayists: Piotr Nestorowicz, Wojciech Nowicki, Daniel Odija, Michał Olszewski, Filip Springer, Ilona Wiśniewska.

Looking at contemporary, popular magazines, whose target readers are primarily women, it is hard not to notice that their contents fit into a certain preferred standard of beauty emanating from the narration about selected, primarily feminine, aspects of life. This model of beauty, in the form of a certain lifestyle sensitivity, seems to be presented in other women’s magazines as well. They focus on, as it seems, only ex- ternal values (within the etic approach of image specialists) whereas they omit, for example, emic attitu- des of specific women’s circles. I believe that the discussed ‘Cosmopolitan’ magazine is an instance of such a one-sided narration drawing the reader’s attention mainly to fittingly fabricated aspects of beauty.

O atrakcyjności tego aspektu kultury online przesądzają zarówno nieograniczone możliwości w zakresie wyboru i ekspresji tożsamości, jak również interaktywność, która odgrywa ważną rolę dla procesualnych ujęć tej struktury. Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie problematyki aktywności narracyjnej w przestrzeni online przy uwzględnieniu możliwych konsekwencji dla procesów kształtowania i modyfikowania tożsamości indywidualnej. Opis przekształceń w zakresie konceptualizacji pojęcia tożsamości ilustruje dychotomię pomiędzy integralnością a defragmentacją tej struktury.
Blogs and social networking sites collect huge amount of Internet users. The attractiveness of such an aspect of the on-line culture is determined by both unlimited possibilities in terms of choice and expression of identity, as well as interactivity, which plays an important role for processual approaches this structure. The aim of the paper is to introduce the problems of the auto narrative on-line activity taking into account the possible consequences for the processes of development and modification of the individual identity. Description of the transformations in terms of conceptualization of the notion of identity illustrates the dichotomy between the integrity and defragmentation of the structure.

Using numerous examples taken from Nazicamp literature, it proves that in extreme conditions, a human – in order to maintain physical existence – cannot fight for ecosystemic animal equality. Opis:

Holding a chief position in an organized hierarchy means accepting a wide range of duties. What it leads to is a prolonganization and adaptation of the working time as well as its pragmatization as far as the time (e.g. private time, leisure time) not directly connected to the individual’s job is concerned. The need to subordinate, for not to call it incorporate all the other spheres of life into the business actions leads to “temporal tensions” emerging between discrepancies previously autonomous. The author of this paper reconstructed these tensions by showing different strategies and peculiar neutralizations which are used by managers in order to diminish or solve the tensions. The methodology of grounded theory has been applied to analyse the collected material (narrative interviews). The outcomes of the research result from very detailed and arduous analyses of 35 managers’ life-stories according to symbolic interactionism paradigm.

Opis:

Metacognition is a complex construct widely investigated in SLA studies, also those that focus on reading skills and reading comprehension. Ample research points to metacognition as a strong predictor in developing foreign language reading skills, thus promoting metacognitive strategies in FL education is highly recommended. This paper presents a report on a study in which Polish FL learners kept a diary for a period of one month and wrote comments in reference to the reading classes in which they participated. The data obtained from the students’ narrations allowed to examine the learners’ metacognitive beliefs defined in the study as knowledge about cognition, consisting of three components: person knowledge, task knowledge, and strategy knowledge (Flavell, 1981). The diary data were analyzed in a global narrative way, which enabled the researcher to examine a complex character and a dynamic nature of metacognition in relation to the reading lessons. The findings underline a double role that learner diaries played in this study: as a research tool useful in investigating learners’ metacognition and an effective task that seemed to facilitate the learners’ reflection skills.

Opis:

One of the most predictable implications of photography consists of the ability to fix some images returning them in a variable timeframe for the observation. In all the major world cities, it is common to incur in some book where recent photos are compared to old ones searching the same point of view in order to make the comparison more accurate and stimulate the critical ability of the observer. An exercise that sometimes stimulates a sort of regret for the past, pointing out a diffused excess of nostalgia for times gone by. Nevertheless, the reality and meaning of modern city images are not always so prosaic. What happens when photographs are evocative of a reality that is completely lost in the collective imaginary even though it still exists and functions, despite being forgotten and buried in the depths of the city? This is the case of very few pictures capable of telling the story of a city, Milan, and its only “real” river, the Olona, whose waters, humiliated and rejected, continue to flow in total amnesia. It is a different story when photography does not have the role of nourishing nostalgia, but the power to make visible and explain the variation of a presence and its progressive obliteration. Some pictures testify to the passage from the bucolic amenity of the river and its banks in a pre-urban context to a muscular urban infrastructure. A rigid channelized river, shown with confidence, is trying to keep its presence, until the moment of its inevitable decline and disappearance. It is in these images that the possibility of reconsidering the Olona as a part of the new project for the city lies.

The article analyses the importance of the minor genre of horror tale in the development of the Portuguese fiction written by women during the 1980s. It permitted to find a literary expression of the silenced topics, such as the fear of pregnancy and childbirth, domestic violence, prostitution. The narrations of anxiety created by such writers as Luisa Costa Gomes, Maria Ondina Braga, Lídia Jorge, Teolinda Gersão, and Hélia Correia mark a period of transition in the Portuguese culture, questioning both female and male condition. Exploration of the gender perspective leads to the utmost triumph of women that finally achieve recognition in the fields of literature and cultural criticism. At the same time, it contributes to exorcise the spectres of the patriarchal culture that became obsolete after the end of Salazarism and the Portuguese colonial empire. Opis:

The 19th-century popularity and ambiguity of many versions of the motif of Russian indefiniteness contributed to popularize the view about its ineffaceable incongruity to the West. On the basis of such ideas the premises of the deep aversion between these two spheres were arising. Against thisbackground, it is clearly visible why despite of the not so rare mutual fascination, the relations between Russians and other European nations were often dominated by conflicts of interests, animosities and embarrassment associated with the difficult past and cultural distance. All of these barriers – in conjunction with the rapid acceleration of historical processes, including the intensification of international contacts – were facilitating the creation of fear, distrust, unfortunate statements, wounded pride, contempt and desire for revenge.
Dziewiętnastowieczna popularność oraz wieloznaczność rozmaitych wariantów motywu nieokreśloności Rosji przyczyniły się do upowszechnienia poglądu o nieusuwalnym jej niedopasowaniu do Zachodu. Na kanwie tego typu wyobrażeń długo narastały przesłanki niechęci pomiędzy obiema przestrzeniami kulturowymi. Na tym tle widać częściowo, dlaczego w stosunkach Rosjan z narodami Europy, mimo nie tak znów rzadkiej, wzajemnej fascynacji, wielokrotnie górę brały konflikty interesów, animozje i zakłopotanie związane z niełatwą przeszłością oraz dystans kulturowy.Wszystkie wymienione bariery – w powiązaniu z gwałtownym przyspieszeniem procesów historycznych, w tym z intensyfikacją kontaktów międzynarodowych – sprzyjały i nadal sprzyjają kreowaniu strachu, nieufności, niefortunnych wypowiedzi, urażonej dumy, a niekiedy nawet wzgardy i chęci odwetu.

Qualitative analysis was conducted concurrently on two subject groups engaged in the upbringing process: parents and their adult children. The narrations, analyzed “in pairs,” (n = 26) constituted the answers to the questions: (1) How did you raise your child? (2) How were you raised? The analysis of the narrations (using theory of literature devices) allowed for the isolation of elements of hidden stories (within the confines of a story within a story). As such, we considered communications containing the following information: implied and thematized – at a high level of literary communication and defined in time, told in free-flowing language in which the narrator’s distance is the smallest, as well as information which can be attributed to the addresser. Conducting discourse analysis on persons in monologue pairs allows us to compare whether the worlds presented (human activity, attributed roles, processes, states, experiences, times and places) are the same and alike.

Opis:

How we function in social reality is determined by various types of cognitive schemas. These concern people, social events and other phenomena. According to the concept offered by various postpositivist currents, including postmodernism, poststructuralism and critical theory, such schemata cannot be objective. The most important element of postmodern considerations is the discovery of the arbitrary nature of modernity. This means rejecting the Enlightenment belief in progress. Innovation, understood as modernity resulting from human reason, is illusory in the postmodern perspective. Innovation consists precisely in a rejection of the myth of the existence of some absolute, objective truths that constitute the social order. The world is textual, made up of many alternative narratives. Definitions, including legal definitions, are socially constructed. They arise from specific social conditions, at a particular stage of development of a particular group. The assumption made by postmodernists is that language, including professional language – such as the language of law or legal language – is neither neutral nor transparent. The innovative power of this language lies in its use of narratives that influence the functioning of social groups of varying degrees of complexity. It is therefore necessary, adopting a postmodern interpretation, to look at the text of legal language in a similar way as we look at other texts. That is, to see in the narrativity of this language structural similarities with other texts that constitute social reality.

Opis:

What narrative patterns do young adults apply when they relate stories about their lives? How do they perceive their lives? Finding the answers to these questions was the aim of the research described in this article. The study involved fourteen people aged 26–35, who talked about their lives in the form of a monologue. They were asked to speak on the subject: „Tell me about the last few years of your life”. The results of the thematised information analysis suggest that their narrations resemble autopresentations included in a CV or an application letter. The results of the implied information analysis point to the illusory character of what is said explicitly. The reconstructed hidden stories do not confirm the presented stories about successful life.

Opis:

In the literary recollections of camp survivors the figure of the Muselmann is a recurring motif. The author puts forward a thesis about the existence of a dominating, prototypical narration about a Muselmann, which occurs not only in literary texts but also in scholarly studies. The questioning of the exemplary forms of depicting a Muselmann may lead to irritation and evoke in readers the feeling of “disturbance”. The re-enactment of such disturbances possesses a hidden analytical potential, as it reveals routinized and partly problematic cultural structures of reception and cquisition apparent especially in the context of post-catastrophic narrations and remembrance of the Shoah.

The main field of consideration of hereby article is the issue of mediation which is presented by the author from the perspective of a paradigm of narrative mediation. According to the concept, conflicts occur under the influence of opposing narrations of parties about what has happened. The opponents create their own stories of the conflict, shaped through various socio-cultural contexts and language that they use. The aim of narration is deconstructing narrations maintaining conflict, and creating space to emerge alternative stories, or giving a new meaning to the existing narrations. The author pays special attention to the power of language and the meaning of metaphors in the mediation process. Metaphor is viewed as an inexhaustible source of interventions, crucial for interpreting hidden meanings of narration of parties, universalizing stories, as well as modifying them towards alternative, constructive narration.

The article explores the problem of reconstructing the experience of illness based on the narratives of people with mental disease. The research used the method of biographical interviews. The material consists of 16 biographical narratives of Dr J. Babiński Clinical Hospital patients. Their accounts form a coherent image of suffering caused by the illness included experiences preceding the disease, somatic symptoms, admission, and stay in the hospital. Thanks to the collected narratives, we have the opportunity to learn about the subjective experiences from the patient’s perspective, which is not present in the literature on psychopathology.

Opis:

The objective of the research was to find and describe the speaking styles about emotions and to show their psychological mechanisms, especially in terms of neuroticism, anxiety, and depressiveness. In order to achieve these results the questionnaire methods (SF IPIP NEO-PI-R, BDI-II, STAI) as well as narrative methods have been leveraged. 71 adult women were examined by asking them to tell a certain story regarding contentment accordingly to the standardized instructions. The utterances have been analyzed by counting the occurrences of specific expressiveness indicators, and the gathered data have been subjected to the cluster analysis. It has been proven that women are using three speaking styles about contentment, named respectively “task-oriented”, “cheerful”, and “anxiety-depressive”. The “anxiety-depressive” style is characterized by multiple usages of negative emotional terms, negations, making distinctions and a higher number of paralinguistic phenomenons. This is the way how the cognitive biases specific for depression and increased emotional tension reveal. The conducted researches tend to show that the speaking style about emotions is an accurate reflection of the psychological traits.
Celem badań było odnalezienie i opisanie stylów mówienia o emocjach oraz ukazanie ich psychologicznych mechanizmów, zwłaszcza w zakresie neurotyczności, lęku i depresyjności. Wykorzystano do tego celu metody kwestionariuszowe (SF IPIP NEO-PI-R, BDI-II, STAI) oraz metody narracyjne. Badaniami objęto 71 dorosłych kobiet, które opowiedziały historię na temat zadowolenia po usłyszeniu wystandaryzowanej instrukcji. Wypowiedzi zanalizowano poprzez zliczenie wystąpień określonych wskaźników ekspresywności, a uzyskane dane poddano analizie skupień. Wykazano, że kobiety stosują trzy style mówienia o emocjach, które określono jako zadaniowy, pogodny oraz lękowo-depresyjny. Styl lękowo-depresyjny charakteryzuje się używaniem większej ilości negatywnych określeń emocjonalnych, negacji, określeń wskazujących na dokonywanie rozróżnień, a także występowaniem większej ilości zjawisk paralingwistycznych. Ujawniają się w ten sposób przede wszystkim zniekształcenia poznawcze typowe dla depresji i wzmożonego napięcia emocjonalnego. Przeprowadzone badania wskazują na to, że sposób mówienia o emocjach trafnie odzwierciedla cechy psychiczne człowieka.

Autor opisuje zjawisko poczucia krzywdy w społeczności górnośląskiej. Punktem wyjścia jest diagnoza socjologiczna Mariana Gerlicha, który genezę tego zjawiska lokuje w epoce międzywojennej. Przykłady traumy o charakterze historycznym i strukturalnym (według podziału Dominicka LaCapry) odnajdywane są w losach bohaterów tekstów literackich Wilhelma Szewczyka, Szczepana Twardocha, Wojciecha Kuczoka, Stanisława Bieniasza i Leszka Libery. Autor śledzi dynamikę rozwoju tej traumy, odnosząc ją do eseju Julii Kristevej (Czarne słońce. Depresja i melancholia). Tytułowa metafora (le soleil noir) stanowi rewers narracji o Górnym Śląsku, konfrontacyjnej wobec oficjalnej opowieści (awersu), w której dominują historie o udanej symbiozie Ślązaka z otaczającym go środowiskiem geograficznym i geopolitycznym. Autor koncentruje się na losach bohaterów wykluczonych z wielkiej wspólnoty etnicznej, zazwyczaj bękartach lub dzieciach porzuconych, będących – w planie symbolicznym – ilustracją relacji wielka ojczyzna – mała ojczyzna. Określenie „zachód czarnego słońca” odniesione jest do obserwowanych w aktualnym dyskursie tendencji – do zastępowania narracji „czarnej” (apoteozującej eksploatację) narracją „zieloną” oraz do odchodzenia od obrazów eksponujących sieroctwo etniczne do obrazów pokazujących obraz wspólnoty autonomicznej i świadomej swoich celów.
The author describes the phenomenon of the sense of grievance deeply rooted in the Upper Silesian community. The starting point of the essay is a sociological diagnosis by Marian Gerlich, which dates the genesis of this phenomenon back to the interwar period of the 1920s and 1930s. The author of the article finds examples of historical and structural trauma (according to the distinction drawn by Dominick LaCapra) in the fortunes of some literary characters featured in the texts by Wilhelm Szewczyk, Szczepan Twardoch, Wojciech Kuczok, Stanisław Bieniasz and Leszek Libera. He observes the dynamics of the development of this trauma by referring it to the essay of Julia Kristeva (Black Sun. Depression and Melancholia). The title metaphor (le soleil noir) is the reverse side of the narration of Upper Silesia, standing in opposition to the official story (the obverse), monopolised by accounts of a successful symbiosis between a Silesian and his geographical and geopolitical environment. The author has focused on the fortunes of characters excluded from a large ethnic community, usually illegitimate or abandoned children – fortunes which – ona symbolic level – illustrate the relationship between “Homeland” and “Small Homeland”. The expression “black sunset” is related to the tendencies, observed in the current discourse, to replace the “black” narration (glorifying exploitation) with the “green” narration and to diverge from images showing ethnic orphan hood to images depicting an autonomous community, conscious of its purposes.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest analiza podręczników do nauki historii literatury autorstwa Bożeny Chrząstowskiej. Zarówno Starożytność – oświecenie(1987), jak i Literatura współczesna (1992) są przykładem łączenia tradycji strukturalistycznych z nowymi, uwzględniającymi oczekiwania i możliwości intelektualne młodego odbiorcy. Punktem wyjścia podjętych rozważań są ustalenia Chrząstowskiej na temat warunków czytania tekstu w przestrzeni edukacyjnej, które zostały przedstawione w artykule Polonistyka szkolna w procesie komunikacji literackiej z 1977 roku. Od końca lat 80. propozycje metodyczne Chrząstowskiej zmierzają w nowym kierunku, choć zarazem Profesor nie traci z pola widzenia konieczności racjonalizacji aktu lektury w szkole. Mimo że Chrząstowska wprost nie opowiadała się za modelem antropocentrycznym edukacji polonistycznej, to jej postulat odchodzenia od szkolnego encyklopedyzmu na rzecz kształcenia umiejętności czytelniczych, a w dalszej perspektywie także dokonywania przez młodego człowieka wyborów aksjologicznych, można uznać za ważny krok orientujący nauczanie w kierunku potrzeb człowiek estetycznych.
The main aim of an article is an analysis of the textbooks of the Polish history literature course in a high school. Bożena Chrząstowska's textbooks Starożytność–oświecenie (1987) as well as Literatura współczesna(1992) combine structuralism tradition and new tendencies in Polish education which are oriented to the esthetic expectation of the students and also their intellectual skills. At the beginning of this article the author focuses on Chrząstowska's notion of the literature works reading by students which she demonstrated in the article Polonistyka szkolna w procesie komunikacji literackiej (1977). During the next decade Chrząstowska's didactic proposals partly turned to new direction including a “center-anthropological” orientation in educational process but she firmly expressed necessity of rationalization of text reading in school. Chrząstowska's textbooks are the crucial didactic proposals which supported students during the process of building their reading skills, mainly, interpretation of literary works. Thanks to these abilities young people – according to Professor Chrząstowska– will be able to make aesthetic choosing in the future.

Prezentowany tekst jest wprowadzeniem do dyskusji nad przemianami w pracy emocjonalnej kobiet. Otwiera go wprowadzenie teoretyczne do kategorii badawczej, jaką jest praca emocjonalna w sferze prywatnej (emotional work) i w sferze zawodowej (emotiona labour). W projekcie zostaje przyjęta kulturowa koncepcja emocji Arlie Russel Hochschild. Zasadniczą część artykułu stanowią sygnały z wywiadów narracyjnych z 10 kobietami w przedziale wiekowym 30–40 lat. Materiał przedstawiono tak, by odpowiedzieć na pytania między innymi o to: Czy i jak redefinicja roli kobiety, wynikająca z przemian kulturowych, zmienia przestrzeń prywatną moich rozmówczyń? W jakich obszarach życia domowego badane kobiety doświadczają pracy emocjonalnej? Z racji przyjętej formuły tekst ma na celu tylko zasygnalizować obszary, w których kobiety podejmują wzmożoną pracę emocjonalną.
The presented text is an introduction to the discussion about the changes in emotional work of women. It starts with theoretical introduction to the main research category, which is emotional work in the private sphere (emotional work) and the professional sphere (emotional labour). In the project, I adopted the cultural concept of emotions by Arlie Russel Hochschild. The main part of the article contains the signals from narrative interviews with 10 women, in the age ranging 30–40. The data is analysed in order to find the answer to research questions. The most important are two: Do the women experience the change of their roles in private and public sphere? What are the areas of the home life in which they experience the tensions connected with emotional work? Because of the implemented formula, the text intends only to point to the areas in which women undertake increased emotional work.

Celem artykułu jest charakterystyka narracji linearnych w grach wideo w kontekście immersji użytkownika. Autorka rozważa, w jaki sposób twórcy kształtują doświadczenie immersji w grach cechujących się niskim stopniem wariacyjności i modyfikowalności narracji. Przedmiotem analizy czyni prolog gry The Last of Us, wskazując, że ważnym mechanizmem immersji w grach linearnych jest koherentne połączenie nieinteraktywnych scen przerywnikowych (cutscenes) z interaktywnym gameplayem.
The paper aims to outline features of linear video games in context of a player immersion. The first part of the paper deals with a brief introduction concerning the characteristic of linear narrations, especially its character-centric specifics and the using of non-interactive cutscenes. In the second part of the paper, the author analyzes the selected linear game and indicates how video games’ developers design gameplay in order to involve players in narration. The author examines a hypothesis that using non-interactive scenes stimulate player’s immersion and develop narrations in linear video games.

Koncept wojny, walki, sprzeciwu, tak samo jak i refleksja na temat porażki i rezygnacji z niedawnej przeszłości, stanowi cechę charakterystyczną publikowanych ostatnio powieści ukraińskich pisarzy: Oksany Zabužko, Vasyla Šklara, Liny Kostenko, Sergiya Žadana. Retoryka wojny zostanie rozpatrzona na podstawie interpretacji dwóch głośnych książek, mianowicie Liny Kostenko Pamiętnik ukraińskiego szaleńca oraz Sergiya Pantiuka Wojna i my. Analiza tych utworów pozwala na ewentualny wniosek o zasadniczym znaczeniu retoryki militarnej w kulturze postkolonialnej, w tym także w obliczu globalizacji i totalnego wydziedziczenia. Nie można odmówić obydwojgu autorom pewnej prognozy profetycznej w kontekście ostatnich wydarzeń, to znaczy aktualnej wojny lokalnej toczącej się na Ukrainie.
The concept of war and struggle, similarly as the reflection of defeat and resignation from the recent past became the main topic of the novels of Ukrainian writers, e.g. Oksana Zabužko, Vasyl Šklar, Lina Kostenko, Sergiy Žadan, etc. The researching of the military rhetoric in the article is based on the famous contemporary books The Notes of Ukrainian Crazy Man by Lina Kostenko and The War and We by Sergiy Pantiuk. The analysis of the novels gives us the possibility to find out and to understand the place of war in the post-colonial culture and in the space of globalization. The interesting fact is that, in their novels, both authors made some prognoses for the future, in particular regarding the contemporary local war in Ukraine.

The article outlines the present situation of women living in rural areas. The author made an attempt to explain what it means to be a ‘woman from the countryside’ by concentrating not only on describing realities of life in the country but also on deconstruction of common stereotype of a ‘woman from the countryside’. In the article both feminine views on feministic philosophy and feminine way of describing barriers resulting from gender and place of residence, as well as slowly taking place transformation of awareness from adaptive to emancipatory attitude were described.
Artykuł ukazuje współczesną sytuację kobiet mieszkających na obszarach wiejskich. Autorka podjęła próbę wyjaśnienia, co znaczy być „kobietą wiejską”, skupiając się nie tylko na deskrypcji realiów życia na wsi, lecz również na dekonstrukcji powszechnego stereotypu „kobiety wiejskiej”. W artykule ukazano zarówno kobiece spojrzenie na filozofię feministyczną, kobiecy sposób definiowania barier wynikających z płci i miejsca zamieszkania, jak i kiełkującą przemianę świadomościową kobiet od postawy adaptacyjnej w kierunku postawy emancypacyjnej.

Celem artykułu jest przeanalizowanie sytuacji współczesnych mężczyzn oraz wyjaśnienie zasadności stosowania określenia „samiec alfa” jako synonimu współczesnego mężczyzny. Analizie zostaje poddana kwestia kryzysu męskości oraz wyznaczników męskiej atrakcyjności we współczesnych społeczeństwach. Kwestia oceny męskości ukazana została przez pryzmat dwóch paradygmatów: tradycyjnego i nowoczesnego, które ujmują pojęcie męskości w zupełnie odmienny sposób. Zaproponowana analiza przyjmuje perspektywę płci kulturowej i odwołuje się do koncepcji teoretycznych oraz danych empirycznych, ilustrujących faktyczną sytuację mężczyzn. W tekście zostaje postawiona teza, że ewentualny kryzys męskości odnosi się do wizerunku tradycyjnego mężczyzny, który nie spełnia dziś oczekiwań zarówno kobiet, jak i społeczeństwa. Owe trudności przystosowawcze mężczyzn wynikają z rosnącej niezależności kobiet oraz nowych standardów męskości, które formułuje społeczeństwo. Ponadto trudności przystosowawcze mężczyzn wynikają zarówno z przyczyn subiektywnych – mężczyźni wcale nie porzucili tradycyjnych wizji męskości, jak i obiektywnych – obowiązujące sprzeczne wizje męskości sugerują wniosek, że samo społeczeństwo nie wie, jaki winien być współczesny mężczyzna.
The aim of the article is to analyse the situation of modern men and explain the legitimacy of the use of the term ‘alpha male’ as a synonym of modern man. The issue of the masculinity crisis and determinants of male attractiveness in contemporary societies are analysed. The assessment of masculinity was presented through the prism of two paradigms: traditional and modern, which capture the concept of masculinity in a completely different way. The proposed analysis takes on the gender perspective and refers to theoretical concepts and empirical data illustrating the actual situation of men. The thesis is presented that a possible crisis of masculinity refers to the image of a traditional man who today does not meet the expectations of women and society. These difficulties in male adaptation result from the increasing independence of women and the new standards of masculinity that are formulated by society. Moreover, men’s adaptation difficulties result from both subjective reasons – men have not abandoned traditional visions of masculinity, and objective ones – the current contradictory visions of masculinity suggest that society itself does not know what a modern man should be like.

An Ecocritical Perspective in Izabela Czajka Stachowicz’s Narrations of the Shoah In the article, the author attempts to prove how valuable a change of methodology can be when it comes to war and Shoah literature of Izabela Czajka Stachowicz. Instead of a reading focused on the writer as a celebrity who shows off and is permeated with sexism, the author proposes the ecocritical and posthumanist reading in its broad understanding, grounded primarily upon the works of Rosi Braidotti. Basing on this perspective, the author discusses the diary entitled Ocalił mnie kowal, situating it against the background of Czajka’s autobiographical prose as well as numerous other war diaries and memoirs of the Jews. Czajka’s writings above all embrace plants and animals with figurative care, but at the same these texts they do not lack realistic narration, devoted to the examples of agreements that the writer hiding on the “Aryan side” has made with homeless or enslaved hens, dogs, and cats. Nie unikając nuty autobiograficznej, autor poświęca swoje rozważania lokalnym wspólnotom badawczym, czyli wspólnotom, w których żywy dyskurs toczy się zwykle w obrębie jednego paradygmatu i wypełniającej go nauki Mistrza. Punktem wyjścia staje się tu obserwacja (odnosząca się głównie do szeroko pojętej humanistyki), że dyskurs wspólnoty skupionej wokół Mistrza niekiedy przenikają również – krytyczne czy wręcz opozycyjne – narracje antymistrzów. W relacji pierwotnej anty mistrzowie i Mistrz konfrontują się jako żywi ludzie: badacze czasem toczący jawne spory, a czasem oddzielający się polem krytycznego milczenia. Autor wyróżnia w związku z tym cztery kategorie antymistrzów, uwzględniając skalę i treść tej konfrontacji. Zwraca zarazem uwagę na to, że rola antymistrzów w lokalnych wspólnotach badawczych często bywa jednak, zwłaszcza w dłuższej perspektywie czasowej, pożyteczna. Ich narracje mogą inspirować i rozwijać naukowe horyzonty wspólnoty, także – co się zdarza – poglądy mądrych Mistrzów i ich wiernych uczniów.
The author’s reflections, which include an autobiographical note, focus on local research communities, that is, communities where the living scholarly discourse usually unfolds within one paradigm and the teachings of a Master which fill this paradigm. The starting point is the observation, referring mostly to the broadly understood humanities, that the discourse within a community which centres on a Master is sometimes imbued with the critical, sometimes even opposing narrations of anti-masters. In the primary relationship, the anti-masters and the Master confront each other as living people, as researchers who sometimes engage in an open debate and sometimes raise a dividing wall of critical silence. Taking into consideration the scale and the contents of these confrontations, the author distinguishes four categories of anti-masters. He also points out that the role of anti-masters in local research communities is often beneficial, especially from the long-term perspective. Their narratives may inspire and expand the community’s scholarly horizons, including, as does occasionally happen, the views of wise Masters and their faithful disciples.

The Polish version of the article was published in Roczniki Humanistyczne vol. 64, issue 1 (2016). The article presents Polish literature in Israel as literature written by migrants: a response to the experience of being relocated and of functioning between different cultures. The subject of the analyses are the paraphrases, travesties and parodies of works by Adam Mickiewicz that are present in Polish-Israeli literature. Referring to the canon texts of Polish literature in them serves the recording of life in Israel. Using Polish literary patterns in stories about the new life and inscribing the Israeli world, as well as signs of Hebrew culture, into them is interpreted as a peculiar correlate of the experience of migration.

Współcześnie wiele kobiet chce aktywnie uczestniczyć w przestrzeni społecznej, realizując się zawodowo. Sfera pracy staje się równie ważną przestrzenią, podobnie jak rodzina czy wiele innych. Wzrastający poziom bezrobocia skłania młodych ludzi do refleksji nad ich przyszłością w kontekście znalezienia zatrudnienia. Niejednokrotnie spotykamy się ze stwierdzeniami, że studia wyższe nie gwarantują znalezienia pracy, że potrzebne jest doświadczenie, które trudno zdobyć młodemu człowiekowi, a w zatrudnieniu ogromne znaczenie odgrywają znajomości w danej branży. Taki stan rzeczy zainspirował mnie do poszukiwania przestrzeni do badań, które pozwoliłyby mi na pokazanie zupełnie innej perspektywy w tym aspekcie. W ramach artykułu prezentuję studium przypadków - są to trzy historie kobiet, które odniosły sukces nie tylko zawodowy, ale także w sferze rodzinnej, choć napotykały na różne trudności, to nie poddały się i konsekwentnie realizowały swoje marzenia i pasje. Badania, jakie zrealizowałam mają charakter badań jakościowych. Dokonałam trzech wywiadów narracyjnych, zaś zebrany materiał empiryczny poddałam wnikliwej analizie zgodnie z przyjętą koncepcją M.B. Milesa i A.M. Hubermana. Wierzę, że zaprezentowane wyniki badań pozwolą otworzyć przestrzeń optymizmu i będą zachęcały inne kobiety-matki do podejmowania podobnych inicjatyw w przestrzeni zawodowej.
Today, many women strive to actively participate in the social space by realizing themselves professionally. The sphere of work becomes as equally important space as family or many others. The increasing level of unemployment has led many young people to reflect on their future in the context of finding employment. Quite often, one finds such statements that higher education does not guarantee finding a job; that one needs experience that is difficult to obtain for young people, and contacts in a given branch highly determine the fact of gaining employment. Such situation inspired me to search for the space for research that would allow for showing a completely different perspective on this aspect. In the following article, I present a study of cases – these are three stories of women who have been successful not only professionally, but also in the sphere of their families. Despite the fact that they encountered a variety of difficulties, they have not given up and consistently pursued their dreams and passions. The study I have realized can be characterized as qualitative research; I made three narrative interviews and the collected empirical material has been carefully analysed in accordance with the accepted concept of Matthew B. Miles and A. Michael Huberman. I believe that the presented results of the research shall open some space for optimism and will encourage other women-mothers to take similar initiatives in the professional space.

The article analyses the category of sisterhood and ways of its functioning in the Polish feminist discourse. It was conducted on the articles published in the media, created after the 10th Congress of Women (Łódź, 16–17.06.2018). One of these article tells the story of women security guard and shows how improperly she was treated by organizers of the Congress during the work at Congress. This history has become an important reference point for subsequent texts. It has revealed various positions and value systems organizing contemporary thinking about sisterhood, which I present in the article using three types of narrations that emerged from the analysis of the indicated texts: (1) the narration of difference, (2) the narration of solidarity over divisions and (3) the narration of sisterhood as a struggle.
Artykuł stanowi analizę kategorii siostrzeństwa i sposobów jej funkcjonowania w polskim dyskursie feministycznym. Została ona przeprowadzona w oparciu o artykuły publikowane w mediach, powstałe po X Kongresie Kobiet (Łódź, 16–17.06.2018). Jeden z nich przedstawia sprawę pracownicy ochrony i zaniedbań ze strony organizatorek Kongresu, jakie zaistniały w związku z jej pracą. Historia ta stała się ważnym punktem odniesienia dla kolejnych tekstów. Unaoczniła różne stanowiska i systemy wartości organizujące współczesne myślenie o siostrzeństwie, które przedstawiam w artykule poprzez trzy rodzaje narracji, jakie wyłoniły się z analizy wskazanych tekstów: narrację różnicy, narrację solidarności ponad podziałami oraz narrację o siostrzeństwie jako walce.

The author represents one of the therapeutic interventions used in the therapy of married couples. The method of positive reformulation in a technique used by system therapists. It is based on social constructionism, in which language creates reality rather than represents it. In this context the role of a therapist changes, as he is no longer an expert with knowledge of dysfunctional family structures, but becomes the expert of a 'good talk'.

W artykule podjęto zagadnienie historii życia osób z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną, analizując ich znaczenie z perspektywy jednostkowej oraz grupowej. Wskazano potencjał tej metody, odnosząc się do wybranych badań z udziałem osób z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną. Analizując taki potencjał, wykorzystano jako podstawę funkcje wyznaczone przez Elżbietę Dubas. Przeanalizowano kompetencje istotne w realizacji historii życia, mając na względzie ich możliwe ograniczenia u osób z niepełnosprawnością. Skoncentrowano się nie tylko na właściwościach procesów poznawczych, lecz także wskazano na potrzebę ujmowania kompetencji osobowościowych. Zwrócono uwagę na kwestię możliwych trudności realizacyjnych z udziałem tej grupy niepełnosprawnych oraz na sposoby ich ograniczania. Pokazano użyteczność zastosowania historii życia oraz historii o życiu w praktyce opieki i rehabilitacji osób z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną.
The article addresses the issue of life stories of people with intellectual disabilities, analysing their importance from an individual and group perspective. The potential of this method was highlighted referring to selected studies of people with intellectual disabilities. Functions designated by Elżbieta Dubas were used as the basis for the analysis. Competences relevant to the implementation of life stories have been considered, taking into account their possible limitations in people with disabilities. The focus was on the properties of cognitive processes, but personality competences were also recognized. Potential difficulties related to implementation in this group were noted and ways of overcoming them were suggested. The usefulness of life stories and life histories for the practice of care and rehabilitation of people with intellectual disabilities has been shown.

Beside good ones, there are also the absent, weak and “poisonous” fathers. “Poisonous” fathers are the worst ones - destroying the childs' personality by using physical or psychological violence.Agood father is a real gift in the childs' life. This article presents the narrations of theAdult Children of Parents' Divorce regarding their fathers from their childhood. The article shows huge fathers' influence on the life and social development their children. That is proved, that divorce breakes off the emontional and spiritual bonds between parents (expecialy fathers) and their children after divorce.

As more and more societies are transforming into cashless economies, questions about the social nature of this transformation are arising. With this paper we present specific insights into the process of the institutionalization of cashlessness in Poland. The process is analyzed from the perspective of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). We advance the idea that the institutional field of cashlessness is emerging with similar pressures. In this field—as we argue using the concept of Powell and DiMaggio—SMEs experience a coercive institutional isomorphism. We show that the complex impact of interlocked social interactions, financial sanctions, narrations, values and norms are creating the matrix for SMEs’ decision whether to implement cashless payments into their business. The analysis is based on 74 individual in-depth interviews with SMEs owners. The paper is grounded in qualitative research design and the theory of neo-institutionalism.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki analizy ponad 300 polskich memów dotyczących pandemii SARS-CoV-2 z lat 2020-2021. Celem badania było określenie, w jaki sposób memy – traktowane jako nośniki perswazji – narzucają odbiorcom interpretację faktów. Wyróżnienie czterech typów bohaterów: Ofiary, Prześladowcy, Wybawcy i Głupca pozwoliło określić, jakie grupy społeczne obsadzane są w poszczególnych rolach. Role te wraz z odpowiadającymi im typowymi scenariuszami ewokowały narracje, które mogły wywoływać określone opinie i emocje na temat pandemii i związanych z nią zachowań czy decyzji.
The article presents the results of the analysis of over 300 Polish memes regarding the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in the years 2020-2021. The aim of the study was to determine how memes - treated as vehicles of persuasion - impose on the audience the interpretation of facts. By distinguishing four types of protagonists: the Victim, the Persecutor, the Savior and the Fool, it was possible to determine which social groups are cast in each role. These roles, along with the corresponding typical scenarios, evoked narratives that could elicit specific opinions and emotions about the pandemic and related behaviors or decisions.

Artykuł dotyczy wyznaczników dorosłości oraz sposobów jej doświadczania. Badania zrealizowano za pomocą wywiadu swobodnego pogłębionego. Przebadano trzy kobiety pochodzące z tej samej rodziny, reprezentujące trzy pokolenia. Sformułowano dwa problemy badawcze: Jakie są wyznaczniki dorosłości według badanych kobiet? oraz W jaki sposób badane kobiety doświadczały dorosłości? Kobiety, mimo że pochodziły z jednej rodziny, opisywały dorosłość i doświadczały jej raczej odmiennie. Wskazane trzy przypadki ilustrują proces dojrzewania emancypacji – w każdym z wywiadów widać jego inne oblicze.
The article concerns the determinants of adulthood and the ways of its experiencing. The research was carried out by in-depth interview. Three women from the same family, representing three generations were interviewed. Two research problems were formulated:What are the determinants of adulthood in women’sopinion? and In what way women experienced adulthood? Although they came from the same family, women described and experienced adulthood rather differently. Three indicated cases illustrate the maturation process of emancipation – in each of the interviews can be seen the other aspect of it.

Charakterystyki wartościowe w narracjach marketingowych mogą implikować instrumentalizację klienta. Jako istotowy warunek procesu coachingowego ukazane zostało podejście niedyrektywne oraz samoświadomość.
Presented reflections are intended to clarify the essence of coaching, which is not always properly expounded. The article shows some problems of description coaching in terms of effectiveness, performance and human potential maximizing. Characteristics valuable in marketing point of view may imply reductionism and instrumentalising of coachee. The importance of non-directivity and self-reflexivity has been emphasized as an essential condition in coaching process.

Opis:

Micro-(h)istorical narratives by Claude Duneton and Jean Echenoz – The purpose of this article is a comparative study of two recent French novels, Le Monument. Roman vrai by Claude Duneton (2004) and 1914 by Jean Echenoz (2012), which, in spite of formal and ideological differences, approach the theme of the Great War in a way similar to micro-historical frameworks. Like historians representing this field of historiography, both writers depict the four years of the First World War by focusing on a small community and a geographical space limited to a small location on the home-front. Referring to the distinction between roman de l’historien (the historian’s novel) and roman du témoin (the witness’s novel) proposed by Emmanuel Bouju, the author of the article analyses the strategies used by the novelists to create an indirect witness’s point-of-view, juxtaposed with the perspective of the contemporary recipient of the events that happened a hundred years ago.
Celem artykułu jest porównanie dwóch francuskich powieści – Le Monument. Roman vrai Claude’a Dunetona (2004) i 1914 Jeana Echenoza (2012), w których opowieść o I wojnie przypomina strategie stosowane w pisarstwie mikrohistorycznym. Odnosząc się do rozróżnienia pomiędzy kategoriami powieści historyka (roman historique) i powieści świadka (roman istorique), w ujęciu Emmanuela Bouju, autor omawia strategie stosowane przez obu powieściopisarzy w celu stworzenia efektu zapośredniczonego świadectwa zestawionego z punktem widzenia dzisiejszego odbiorcy wydarzeń sprzed stu lat.

Złożoność i zmienność kontekstów współczesnej formy architektonicznej są decydujące w rozumieniu piękna i kiczu. Współczesna kategoria piękna może opisywać szerokie spektrum zjawisk, od klasycznego piękna, przez brzydotę do antypiękna. To samo dotyczy pojęcia kiczu, które może być umieszczane w tym samym szerokim spektrum. Wieloznaczność i względność estetycznych kryteriów wartościowania ery cyfrowej powoduje, że powstają nowe kategorie piękna i kiczu, eksplorujące te same środki wyrazu, tzw. postpiękno. Interpretacja współczesnej architektury wymaga więc zdefiniowania nowych kryteriów estetycznego wartościowania form architektonicznych. W pracy sformułowano podstawowe kryteria oceny wartości estetycznej form architektonicznych w aspekcie ich piękna lub brzydoty w oparciu o metodę hermeneutycznej analizy reprezentatywnych przykładów współczesnej sztuki i architektury na trzech poziomach złożoności interpretacyjnej: od analizy znaczenia narracji twórcy (zmienne a priori), przez analizę narracji odbiorcy (zmienne a posteriori) do analizy narracji formy (zmienne metaforyczne komunikatu).
The complexity and variability of contexts of contemporary architectural form are crucial in understanding the meaning of beauty and kitsch. The present category of beauty can define the wide spectrum of phenomena, from the classical beauty, through the ugliness to anti-beauty. It also relates to the notion of kitsch, which can be placed in the same wide spectrum. The ambiguity and relativity of the esthetical criteria of valuation of digital age cause, that new categories of beauty and kitsch are born, exploring the same field of formal expressions, the so-called beyond-beauty. Interpretation of the contemporary architecture requires to define new criteria of esthetical evaluation of the architectural forms. In the paper, the fundamental estimation’s criteria of the aesthetical value of contemporary architectural forms are formulated in the aspect of their beauty or uglinesses based on the hermeneutic method of analysis of the representative examples of contemporary art and architectures on three levels of the interpretative complexity: from the analysis of the meaning of the creator’s narration (variables a priori), by the analysis of the receiver’s narration (variables a posteriori), to the analysis of the narration of the form (metaphoric variables of message).

Przebieg kariery edukacyjnej może zmieniać swą postać w czasie, a zmianę tę determinują czynniki tkwiące w samej osobie, jej rodzinie, grupie rówieśniczej, środowisku szkolnym oraz pozaszkolnym. Przeprowadzone badania pokazują, że szczególną i decydującą rolę w procesie kształtowania się karier edukacyjnych odgrywa szkoła. Indywidualizacja procesu kształcenia, a więc zarazem położenie większego nacisku na wypełnianie przez szkołę w szerszym zakresie funkcji emancypacyjnej (obok adaptacyjnej i rekonstrukcyjnej), ma szczególne znaczenie w odniesieniu do osób z zaburzeniami rozwoju, w tym także ze specyficznymi trudnościami w uczeniu się, których biografie edukacyjne stanowią podstawę prezentowanych wyników badań.
The course of educational career may change its form over time and the change is determined by the factors deep inside the people themselves, their family, peer group, school and out-of-school environment. The conducted studies indicate that school plays a special and decisive role in the process of shaping the educational careers. Individualization of the educational process and, thus, simultaneously placing more emphasis on the school performing the emancipation function in a wider scope (apart from adaptation and reconstruction functions), is of extreme importance with regard to people with developmental disorders, including those with specific learning difficulties whose educational biographies constitute the basis for presentation of the study results.

Opis:

Hermeneutics has numerous meanings. One of them is the understanding of it as the art of interpreting spoken or written text. It has also gained the status of methodology within humanistic science. The applications of hermeneutics interpretation to analyse philosophy or literary texts is widely known. The question is whether it may be applied in the research carried out on the ground of empirical science about a human; namely psychology. In psychology, the understanding of a human as ‘projecting existence’ representative for the personal – existential approach, is the closest to the humanistic sciences. Due to these reasons, hermeneutics as understanding methodology may find application in the research on the noetic level of human development which is not subject to biological or environmental determination, being the area where axiological motivation is executed. The historic and contextual conception of developmental experiences by means of the methodology which understands and not only explains human behaviour, allows to discover new areas of functioning of the human psyche. The article also presents the rules applied while making use of hermeneutics interpretation of autobiographical narration on the ground of psychology backed up with their philosophical basis.
Hermeneutyka posiada wiele znaczeń. Jednym z nich jest jej rozumienie jako sztuki interpretowania tekstu mówionego lub pisanego. Zyskała również status metodologii w zakresie nauk humanistycznych. Znane są zastosowania interpretacji hermeneutycznej do analiz tekstów filozoficznych i literackich. Czy jednak można ją stosować w badaniach prowadzonych na gruncie empirycznej nauki o człowieku jaką jest psychologia? W psychologii najbliższe naukom humanistycznym wydaje się być rozumienie człowieka jako „projektującej się egzystencji”, reprezentatywne dla podejścia personalistyczno-egzystencjalnego. Z tego powodu hermeneutyka jako metodologia rozumiejąca może znaleźć zastosowanie w badaniach nad noetycznym poziomem rozwoju człowieka, który to poziom nie podlega determinacji biologicznej i środowiskowej, stanowiąc obszar realizowania się motywacji aksjologicznej. Historyczne i kontekstowe ujęcie doświadczeń rozwojowych przy pomocy metodologii rozumiejącej, a nie wyłącznie wyjaśniającej ludzkie zachowania, pozwala odkrywać nowe obszary funkcjonowania ludzkiej psychiki. W artykule przedstawione zostały zasady obowiązujące przy stosowaniu hermeneutycznej interpretacji narracji autobiograficznych na gruncie psychologii wraz z ich filozoficzną podstawą.

The article is a brief survey and evaluation of historical research on Poznań 1956 protests, the political change in October 1956, and the year in general. An important gap was filled by the publication of Piotr Grzelczak’s book on the long-term consequences of the Poznań protests, and the conflict over its remembrance between government representatives and local inhabitants of the region, since the protests were one of the defining moments in recent history of Poznań. The article also includes a summary of the controversy between historians over the importance of 1956 as a watershed in Polish history, with some historians arguing that a more liberal image of the communist system in Poland was formed in 1956, while others argued that the communist dictatorship was stabilized by winning wider social support. The author has indicated an increasing separation between narratives about the Poznań protests in June and the political transformations in October, which has consequences and threats related to polarized perception of history, leading to meagre and simplified understanding of social realities of the Polish People’s Republic after 1956.
