The business of making native apps for mobile devices is decreasing, crushed by a fragmented market and restrictive business practices. From the technical point of view there are two main problems. One is proliferation of operating systems. Several years ago there were only two platforms: Pocket PC and Palm OS. Now there are at least ten platforms, and a fragmentation of Java makes this situation even worse. The second prob-lem is certification. Every developer has to certify with both the OS (operating system) and each carrier and it costs too much. The problems are so serious that the mobile web, despite its many technical drawbacks, is now a better way to deliver new functionality to mobile devices. Section 2 provides the brief history of mobile hardware and software industry. In the next two section there are presented the market problems of native mobile application developers and also the customer needs which will drive a rapid rise in mobile web development, probably largely replacing the mobile applications business. All this has huge implications on mobile operators, handset companies, developers, and users. The author presents not only problems, but also opportunities and new trends. Section 4 gives the comparison of mobile software environments, native and web-based, and their attractiveness to the developers (illustrated in Fig. 1). There is presented some information on modern technologies just introduced by market leaders, especially: Microsoft's Silverlight, Adobe's AIR and the newest Linux+Qt-based platform introduced by Nokia. In Section 5 a few exam-ples of web-based applications (Figs. 2, 3, 4, 5) show new trends in which former desktop applications are replaced by the web-mobile ones.

Opis:: The authors analyses the issues inherent in implementation of a multi-sensory mobile application which uses a map as an interface for an edutainment-style city guide for tourists. Two models – the triad of tourist experiences (3E), i.e. education, entertainment, and excitement, and the hierarchy of needs of Abraham Maslow – were used as the basis for identifying what conditions should be met by such an application to encourage its use by both local residents and tourists, in equal measure. It was decided that only open source software would be used to achieve the goal of the application.

Opis:: W artykule przedstawiono powody i sposób opracowania kilku wersji, aplikacji na urządzenia mobilne do opryskiwania, pozwalającej na sprawne i dokładne ustalenie ilości skoncentrowanego preparatu i wody, przeznaczonych do przygotowania cieczy roboczej. Dotychczas procedura ta była utrudniona, a brak poręcznych urządzeń pomocniczych do jej przeprowadzania groził ryzykiem pomyłki i groźnymi skutkami dla środowiska i operatora. Rosnąca popularność telefonów komórkowych, czy innych przenośnych urządzeń, pozwalają na zastosowanie w nich aplikacji użytkowych. W Uniwersytecie Przyrodniczym w Poznaniu opracowano program do określenia ilości preparatu potrzebnego do przygotowania cieczy użytkowej o właściwym stężeniu. Program może być zmodyfikowany na dowolny język i jednostki niemetryczne, co pozwoli użyć go również w innych krajach, gdzie przyczyni się do zmniejszenia chemicznego skażenia środowiska przyrodniczego.
In the article there were presented the reasons and the way of a few versions elaboration of the mobile devices application, which lets us efficiently and exactly determine the quantity of concentrated preparation and the water, purposed for the preparation of the working liquid. This procedure was difficult until now, and a lack of handy, supportive devices to carry out this procedure could cause a risk of making mistake and a dangerous effects for the environment and the sprayer operator. The increasing popularity of the mobile phones or other mobile devices allows us to adopt the usable application in them. At Poznan University of Life Sciences there was worked out a program to determine the quantity of the preparation which is necessary to prepare a working liquid with the proper concentration. This program can be modified to an any language and a non-metric units, what will let us use it also in another countries, where it could contribute to reduce the chemical contamination of the natural environment.

Opis:: Clothing fit is one of the important factors affecting consumers’ purchasing behaviour and clothing satisfaction. The aim of this study was to develop a mobile-based body size calculator program to compare standard mass production body measurements with female body measurements taken individually. Another aim of the study was to investigate the effects of size difference between the body measurements taken individually and mass productionbased measurements on pattern drafting. At the end of the study, the program developed was run, the differences between the patterns examined and pattern modifications made according to the results obtained.
Dopasowanie odzieży jest jednym z ważniejszych czynników wpływających na zachowania zakupowe konsumentów i satysfakcję z odzieży. Celem badania było opracowanie mobilnego programu do obliczania rozmiaru odzieży w celu porównania standardowych pomiarów masy ciała z indywidualnymi pomiarami ciała kobiecego. Kolejnym celem badania było zbadanie wpływu różnicy wielkości pomiędzy indywidualnymi pomiarami ciała a pomiarami opartymi na masowej produkcji na etapie projektowania szablonu. Podczas badania opracowano program, porównano różnice pomiędzy indywidualnymi pomiarami ciała a pomiarami opartymi na masowej produkcji, a następnie na podstawie uzyskanych wyników dokonano modyfikacji szablonów.

Z drugiej strony dziedzina oprogramowania mobilnego jest w stosunkowo wczesnym stadium rozwoju. Urządzenia mobilne udostępniają nowe możliwości interakcji, wprowadzają dużą różnorodność rozdzielczości oraz zastosowań, dlatego konieczne są dodatkowe badania oraz doświadczenia, aby opracować metody badania użyteczności i dostępności dostosowane do interfejsu urządzeń mobilnych.
The usage of mobile devices to access information and communication continues to grow. The software designer and developers, who are creating a new mobile application or rebuilding an existing website, have to take into account not only the needs and requirements of users, but also the limitations of the interaction between the user and the application interface resulting from the technologies, the mobile device resolution or type and the environment in which the device will be used. Therefore, the developing of high-quality mobile applications is difficult, as well as expensive. The paper presents usability of mobile software interface as one of the most important factor of software quality. It discusses the classification of usability testing methods, their place in the software development process. Moreover, the most common usability testing methods, such as prototyping, heuristic analysis, cognitive walkthrough and usability tests, are described and evaluated. In addition, the paper addresses the issue of accessibility of user interface for people with disabilities such as blindness or visual impairment. It reports existing accessibility standards, best practices and testing methods at different stages of interface development.

Opis:: The article presents the results of research in controlling the mobile application with the EEG signals and eye blinking. Authors proposed a prototype solution of a brain-computer interface that can be used by people with total motor impairment to control chosen mobile application on their mobile phone. There was a NeuroSky MindWave Mobile device used during experiments. Two software tools for mobile devices were specially implemented. First one helps to analyse the EEG signals and recognize eye blinks, second one - interprets them and executes assigned actions. Different configurations of settings were used during the studies. They included: single blink or double blink, level of focus, period of focus. Experiments results show that a man equipped with a personal EEG sensor and eye blinking detector can remotely touchless use mobile applications installed on smartphones or tablets.

Opis:: Growing computational power of mobile devices modifies existing approaches to data processing in large-scale sensor networks. Since sensors are no longer limited to simple data acquisition tasks, such networks can be considered complex geodistributed data processing systems. Features and requirements of such systems justify use of Erlang language and technology for programming mobile devices.The technology provides several crucial features, including fault tolerance, message-passing concurrency or hot-code loading. In this paper the problem of software management in Erlang-based distributed systems is discussed. A mechanism for installing and upgrading Erlang applications using operating system package manager is described. A platform for updating software in largescale systems is presented.

There are a lot of everyday situations, which, if underestimated, can put highly sensitive data in danger. The paper presents various strategies in providing security of data for mobile devices' users.

Opis:: This article proposes the construction of autonomous mobile robots and designing of obstacle avoidance algorithms for them. Nowadays, mobile robots are gaining more and more popularity on the customer as well as industrial market, for example as automatic vacuum cleaners or lawnmowers. Obstacle avoidance algorithms play an important role in performance of this types of robots. The proposed algorithms were designed for builds with rather not expensive electronic components, especially sensors with limited precision and dynamics. The project began with the selection of needed parts and building materials as well as designing of the PCB and assembling the whole construction. The project included also designing and developing the software responsible for, among others, implementation of obstacle avoidance algorithms. After the project’s completion, a series of tests in a closed environment was conducted to verify the quality of vehicles’ performance. Results of tests were positive.

Opis:: Modeling and simulation are traditional methods used to evaluate wireless network design. This paper addresses issues associated with the application of parallel discrete event simulation to mobile ad hoc networks design and analysis. The basic characteristics and major issues pertaining to ad hoc networks modeling and simulation are introduced. The focus is on wireless transmission and mobility models. Opis:: Mobile mini-robots are commonly used for research, education and popularization of science. Often, commercially available mini-robots don't quite fit the characteristics needed for a particular task, and are difficult to adapt since they have proprietary software and hardware. Moreover, they are often quite expensive. In this work we present a relatively low-cost, reconfigurable robot equipped with a wide variety of sensors and enough processing power to allow the on-board execution of intelligent algorithms. We present the complete hardware architecture, and a modularized software architecture that makes full use of hardware interruptions and software processes to have a perfectly timed control of the robot. All these characteristics make the new mobile mini robot ExaBot a very malleable, multi task mini-robot.

Based on these examples and tools of Aquafadas DPS and Adobe InDesign software, an original app SPECIMEN for tablets has been created. For this purpose, 15 different typefaces have been chosen. The created app presents all the characteristics of type-faces and possibilities of their use. The E-catalogue also contains the information about the available license, which is important when planning the purchase. The information about the languages of prepared sets of characters is presented. An equally important part about the designers includes short biographical notes, lists other important typefaces designed by them and links to the websites where one can find many more interesting, completed projects. This project has been tested, and on the basis of it, there have been made a number of proposals and described advantages and disadvantages of the Aquafadas DPS software.

Do niedawna roboty były wytworem wyobraźni reżyserów czy też kojarzone były wyłącznie z filmami science-fiction. Dziś można stwierdzić, że od kiedy są stosowane na skalę przemysłową to usprawniły i zrewolucjonizowały wiele czynności realizowanych przez człowieka, wspomagając lub całkowicie zastępując jego pracę [3]. Należy podkreślić, że roboty stosowane są wielu obszarach gospodarki, takich jak przemysł ciężki i lekki, wojsko, medycyna oraz rolnictwo. Celem pracy badawczej było zaprojektowanie i zbudowanie robota mobilnego wraz z opracowaniem autorskiego oprogramowania do procesu akwizycji obrazu oraz możliwości monitorowania miejsc trudno dostępnych dla człowieka.
In recent years, there has been a rapid advancement in artificial intelligence and this has led to the widespread construction and usage of mobile robots. Until recently, robots were a figment of imagination of the science-fiction directors. Now, as a result of the commercial use robots have revolutionized man's work helping people in their activities or even replacing people at work [3]. It should be stressed that robots are used in many areas of the economy, such as light and heavy industry, army, medicine and agriculture. The objectives of this research work were to design and construct a mobile robot as well as to write the original software for the image acquisition, which would allow us to monitor hard-to-reach places.

Opis:: Head movement is frequently associated with human motion navigation, and an indispensable aspect of how humans interact with the surrounding environment. In spite of that, the incorporation of head motion and navigation is more often used in the VR (Virtual Reality) environment than the physical environment. This study aims to develop a robot car capable of simple teleoperation, incorporated with telepresence and head movement control for an on-robot real-time head motion mimicking mechanism and directional control, in attempt to provide users the experience of an avatar-like third person’s point of view amid the physical environment. The design consists of three processes running in parallel; Motion JPEG (MJPEG) live streaming to html-Site via local server, Bluetooth communication, and the corresponding movements for the head motion mimicking mechanism and motors which acts in accordance to head motion as captured by the Attitude Sensor and apparent command issued by the user. The design serves its purpose of demonstration with the usage of basic components and is not aimed to provide nor research with regards to user experience.

Opis:: This paper presents modeling and simulation of a tracked mobile robot for pipe inspection with usage of MATLAB and V-REP software. Mechanical structure of the robot is described with focus on pedipulators, used to change pose of track drive modules to adapt to different pipe sizes and shapes. Modeling of the pedipulators is shown with application of MATLAB environment. The models are verified using V-REP and MATLAB co-simulations. Finally, operation of a prototype is shown on a test rig. The robot utilizes joint space trajectories, computed with usage of the mathematical models of the pedipulators.

Opis:: Three-dimensional scene reconstruction is an important tool in many applications varying from computer graphics to mobile robot navigation. In this paper, we focus on the robotics application, where the goal is to estimate the 3D rigid motion of a mobile robot and to reconstruct a dense three-dimensional scene representation. The reconstruction problem can be subdivided into a number of subproblems. First, the egomotion has to be estimated. For this, the camera (or robot) motion parameters are iteratively estimated by reconstruction of the epipolar geometry. Secondly, a dense depth map is calculated by fusing sparse depth information from point features and dense motion information from the optical flow in a variational framework. This depth map corresponds to a point cloud in 3D space, which can then be converted into a model to extract information for the robot navigation algorithm. Here, we present an integrated approach for the structure and egomotion estimation problem.

Opis:: The need of a software used for a mission control and maintenance of a group of robots increases with the expansion of mobile robotics applications. This paper discusses requirements for a software dedicated for semiautonomous mission planning, execution and monitoring. The authors present a working solution proposal which meets the majority of requirements stated before. The designed software contains path planning and trajectory generating algorithms necessary for the navigation of robots. The solution is equipped with an additional tool used to create surroundings for the mission in the simulation environment. The software is an universal tool which allows its application with different types of robots and missions. The applications of the system confirm the demand for mission control software and the results obtained from tests of the project prove its design propriety.
Wraz z rozwojem zastosowań robotyki mobilnej rośnie zapotrzebowanie na oprogramowania stosowane do prowadzenia misji grupy robotów. Artykuł przedstawia główne wymagania stawiane oprogramowaniu dedykowanemu półautonomicznemu planowaniu, przeprowadzaniu i nadzorowaniu misji. Autorzy prezentują propozycje aplikacji spełniającej większość wymagań. Utworzone oprogramowanie zawiera algorytmy planowania ścieżki i generowania trajektorii niezbędne do nawigowania robotami. Rozwiązanie wyposażono w dodatkowe narzędzie tworzenia otoczenia misji w środowisku symulacyjnym. Oprogramowanie jest uniwersalnym narzędziem do sterowania różnymi typami robotów mobilnych w misjach o różnym charakterze. Obecne zastosowania i dalsze prace rozwojowe potwierdzają popyt na aplikacje dla sterowania misją, zaś wyniki otrzymane w ramach testów programu potwierdzają poprawność jego działania.

Opis:: Artykuł przedstawia porównanie pod względem wymagań sprzętowych aplikacji wspierających wprowadzanie metodyk zwinnych do procesu wytwarzania oprogramowania. Przedmiotem badań były popularne aplikacje mobilne i internetowe wspomagające procesy Agile w przedsiębiorstwach. W celu określenia znaczenia poszczególnych wymagań technicznych dla użytkowników, przeprowadzono serię eksperymentów badawczych opartych na scenariuszach typowego i brzegowego użytkowania badanych systemów. Na potrzeby przeprowadzonej analizy została dodatkowo opracowana aplikacja wspierająca proces zwinnego wytwarzania oprogramowania. Wyniki pomiarów były rejestrowane za pomocą specjalistycznych narzędzi monitorujących pracę systemu i profilujących działanie przeglądarki internetowej. Rezultaty prac badawczych przedstawiono w formie tabel.
The article presents a comparison in terms of hardware requirements of applications that supports the agile software development processes. For research purposes, popular mobile and internet applications supporting agile software development were chosen. In order to determine the significance of individual technical requirements for end-users, a series of research experiments, based on scenarios of typical and boundary use was conducted. In addition to research, the application supporting agile software development process was implemented. The results of research were recorded by specialized monitoring and profiling tools. The results of performed work are presented in tabular form.

Opis:: The combination between the design and project of container terminals and the reflect on port’s economy may be carried out through two main approaches: optimization or simulation. Although the approaches based on optimization models allow a more elegant and compact formulation of the problem, simulation models are mainly based on discrete event simulation (DES) models and help to achieve several aims: then measure this impact on port economy before and after implemented this updating overcome mathematical limitations of optimization approaches, support and make computer-generated strategies/policies more understandable, and support decision makers in daily decision processes through a “what if” approach. Several applications of DES models have been proposed and simulation results confirm that such an approach is quite effective at simulating container terminal operations. Most of the contributions in the literature develop object oriented simulation models and pursue a macroscopic approach which gathers elementary handling activities (e.g. using cranes, reach stackers, shuttles) into a few macro-activities (e.g. unloading vessels: crane-dock-reach stacker-shuttle-yard), simulate the movement of an “aggregation” of containers and therefore do not take into account the effects of container types (e.g. 20’ vs 40’, full vs empty), the incidence of different handling activities that may seem similar but show different time duration and variability/dispersion (e.g. crane unloading a container to dock or to a shuttle) and the differences within the same handling activity (e.g. stacking/loading/unloading time with respect to the tier number). Such contributions primarily focus on modeling architecture, on software implementation issues and on simulating design/real scenarios. Activity duration is often assumed to be deterministic, and those few authors that estimate specific stochastic handling equipment models do not clearly state how they were calibrated, what data were used and what the parameter Values are. Finally, no one investigates the effects of different modeling hypotheses on the simulation of container terminal performances. The focus of this paper is on the effects that different hypotheses on handling equipment models calibration may have on the simulation (discrete event) of container terminal performances. Such effects could not be negligible and should be investigated with respect to different planning horizons, such as strategic or tactical. The aim is to propose to analysts, modelers and practitioners a sort of a guideline useful to point out the strengths or weaknesses of different approaches. Drawing on the model architecture which will be affected on port economics.

Opis:: With traveling professions and nomadic lifestyles on the increase there is a growing need for comprehensive mobile networking within the Next Generation Network, and the security, reliability and technical independency of the Short Message Service (SMS) is becoming more and more indispensable for business processes. Since competitiveness goes hand-in-hand with this business capability, and methods to determine the quality of this service are becoming equally indispensable. This paper presents possible methods to evaluate the “Completion Rate of SMS” and “End-to-End Delivery Time” and combinations of them (new metric in this paper). A software tool, QoSCalc(SMS), has been developed in collaboration with the authors in order to verify whether service providers are abiding by the Service Level Agreements. The tool has been tested in a real measurement environment and the results are presented graphically here and interpreted.
