Author raises the issue of specificity of educational leadership trying to show that such specificity has to be based on central value of educational organizations. We live in the twenty-first century, which witnessed by far the most intensive marketing of politics, and traditional approaches (The Great Man Theory, ‘situational’, ‘relational’) to the process of emergence of political leadership are simply not enough. Cooperation between leaders and their followers is determined by cultural and social context, specific political situation of the time, patterns of social behavior. Development of new information technologies and dissemination of the means of mass communication have introduced another factor to the analyzed process, forced by civilisational changes. These changes initiated the processes shaping the emergence of a fourth approach to political leadership, which we may call ‘reactive’. Reactivity is an active process of management of the changing image of the leader, responding to the evolving social preferences, and subsequently disseminated through the media.

The question of whether a single leader type will emerge as one of the possible effects of globalization has required research on the subject. In the context of culture, Hofsthede, Brodbeck et al, and GLOBE studies, revealing that different leadership characteristics come to the fore in different geographies with cultural influences, refuting the claim that a uniform leader model will emerge with globalization. Among the aforementioned studies, GLOBE studies went a little further and claimed that leadership is actually a function of culture. Leadership research in the Balkans, which is a tangle of cultures with its complex ethnic structure, is relatively less included in the literature. The main purpose of this article is; Despite this problem arising from the Cold War period, how the leadership styles are in the Balkans is to examine the relationship between Balkan style leadership and culture. At the same time, the article has a secondary purpose that questions whether the claim that “there is not a single Balkans” is also valid for leadership practices when it comes to culture. Literature review and observation method were used in the research. The observations mainly include the observations made in Albania between the years of 2012-2015. On the other hand, the literature review is based on the data obtained primarily from local studies about each country in the Balkans. The results obtained emphasize that when it comes to leadership in the Balkan countries, the first thing is that political leadership is understood, which draws attention to autocratic leadership from the socialist administration period. In the context of business leadership, it shows that autocratic leadership was effective in the 10-year transition period after the Cold War, and that transformational leadership began to come to the fore in the 2000s at varying speed and rate according to institutions and countries. As a result of the investigations, the article shows that quite similar leadership characteristics stand out for the Balkans, the culture of democracy has not yet fully settled in this context, the avoidance of uncertainty in social codes, the autocratic administration still has an important place as a reflection of cultural dimensions such as the distance of power, on the other hand, willingness to change with new generations, more democratic leadership expectations increase and transformational leadership comes to the fore with the change in geography. Although the article has limitations in terms of containing observations specific to one country, it supports the claims in terms of including the local research results of the countries and is considered to contribute to the literature for the Balkans where limited research is available.

This paper presents the results of qualitative research conducted by the method of in-depth interviews with Polish leaders. A very diversified group of high-level and considerably successful leaders were selected and interviewed. The typology (profiles) of the leaders, their constraints and strength are revealed and discussed. The leaders give much importance to their struggle for autonomy and overcoming constraints. They are familiar with the different models of “optimal leadership.” Their profiles and sources of leadership strength are examined within the framework of the “bounded leadership theory.”

This review study is concerned with an overview of current international research related to the to- pic: leadership in education1. The topic’s importance and popularity is the underlying motivation for writing this study as it can be considered one of the keystones for successful educational institutions and policies. On the other hand, criticism is often raised due to the quality of empirical evidence which should support and verify the measures implemented into practice. The theoretical analysis includes studies published in magazines included in the WOS (Web of Science) database in the last 5 years (work was completed in October 2019) that are associated with keywords “educational/school/ teacher leadership”. The 75 studies were found and later analysed with regards to different points of view: geographical origin, thematic perspective and several methodological aspects. The results are discussed in the study.

Purpose: The main purpose of this study is to present leadership limitations that influence leadership effectiveness and examine if it is possible to overcome these limitations. Methodology: The study presents the results of literature analyses and the findings of the recent research studies on leadership. It also refers to literature items that might be helpful in analyzing the leadership limitations. Conclusions: The study indicates that some leadership behaviors that fall into a particular category are useful in understanding and reflecting on their limitations, while other leaders’ actions enable them to overcome those limitations or use them to support leadership effectiveness. Research limitations: This is a theoretical and conceptual study. It formulates propositions to further empirical research studies. Originality: The study analyzes a number of behaviors from different leadership theories. These behaviors fall into four meta-categories: situational, transformational, authentic and boundary spanning. The study also provides information about leadership styles that are useful in understanding and overcoming leadership limitations.

The purpose of this article is to draw the reader’s attention to the research problems of military leadership that are identified at the lowest levels of command in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland. The authors presented cases of soldiers who present various attitudes in the context of understanding the role of a military leader, as well as ambiguously perceived competencies in this area, including their self-assessment. The problem of a systemic approach to the formation of leadership competencies in military education units is addressed, and the dangers of low levels of commander traits, aptitudes, and competencies are highlighted. The final conclusions inspire the reader to gain knowledge and undertake interdisciplinary research on military leadership.

Agile leadership requires self-reflection. The human image of the supervisors responsible in the com- pany is characterised by appreciation, openness and respect. Leaders create framework conditions and take care of the individual development of individual employees. Their know-how and mindset should be aligned with the agile leadership style. Dealing with the essential principles (change, trust, decisions, iterations, feedback, failure culture, communication) in everyday life does not happen as a matter of course. Agile leadership often fails because of its own self-efficacy and self-functionality. The belief in one‘s own influence to make a difference in difficult situations (self-efficacy) strengthens self -confidence. In complementary self-functionality, each team member works towards a higher goal. Team success is the focus. It requires a high level of self-leadership. Employees with this competence act independently and as part of the team towards the visions and goals of the organisation. Only when self-efficacy and self-leadership are successfully developed among managers and employees can agile leadership be successfully implemented in the company.

The results from the Polish parliamentary elections in 2015 showed a significant change in the behaviour of the electorate. Two completely new political groups have entered the Sejm. For the very first time in the history of the Third Polish Republic, a new balance of power emerged, which excluded the left-wing parties from political discourse without assigning them a parliamentary mandate [Dudek 2016: 687]. In the face of this turn of events, it is difficult to maintain the thesis concerning the "freezing" of the circulation of political elites in the current political system. The Modern political party was established on 31 May 2015 [Kim jesteśmy?] while the Kukiz'15 political movement formed only three months before the parliamentary elections [O stowarzyszeniu – władze krajowe i okręgowe]. These two political organisations were able to overcome the electoral threshold and achieve unexpected success in such a short period of time and without an extensive party structure or significant financial base. The mobilisation of the electorate took place outside the parliamentary structures. In view of this, is the phenomenon of 'over-parlamentisation' [Żukiewicz 2011: 343] involved in the creation of political leaders still valid? Is it to be believed, that in the face of ever more frequent grassroots social initiatives, the real political struggle still only takes place within the parties and political leaders who are not traditional participants of political party games but who appear as activists associated with other areas of public life?On the other hand, the changes that take place in the electorate do not directly translate into the reorganisation of party structures. The tendency to block political advancement by the already established political elite still persists. Traditional political parties are afraid of this new situation, which can significantly harm their interests. Impeding these changes may seem to be an obvious reaction, inscribed in the rules of political struggle [Żukiewicz 2011: 345]. However, the constant increase in tension between the demands and expectations of the electorate and the offer of these parties may indicate that the current balance of power will not last for long. Upcoming transformations cannot be avoided however attempts should be made to control them. For this reason, leaders of traditional political parties should decide on utilising such a mechanism for selecting leaders as it would not exclude them from the political space while at the same time be a guarantor of power.Being part of the 21st century, we have all witnessed and participated in the intensification of globalisation processes as well as the generational change and the popularisation of ideas related to the information society. The significant increase in the importance of the phenomenon of mediatisation of politics causes a reversal of the hierarchy of attributes and predispositions which are desired by society [Schulz 2004: 87-101]. The image of political leaders on social media begins to outweigh their actual leadership skills. There is a danger that the new mechanism responsible for creating party structures will indeed facilitate the circulation of the elite, but unfortunately at the expense of the quality of potential leaders. That is why it is so important that the transformation process of the political power system proceeds as designed, and not in a chaotic manner, succumbing to bottom-up trends.In addition, external factors of an international nature make it difficult to conduct research on the latest political phenomena. The changes currently occurring in society require new research perspectives and approaches. Traditional theories concerning the political system and the understanding of party structure may turn out to be insufficient.

In this study authors mainly emphasize the importance of the question of “Can authentic leaders transform organizations easier or more effectively when compared to other leaders?” As the fire and intensity of self-interest seem to burn all around us, we search, so often in vain, to find leaders we can have “faith” in. We all suspect that we are being duped as a reaction to the turbulent times we live in and a response to the public's widespread disenchantment with politicians and businesspeople (Goffee & Jones, 2005). We are not uncertain about our leaders’ talents, but about their trustworthiness. Due to this feeling of uncertainty; the authentic leaders who tend to exhibit confidence, hope, optimism, resiliency and a dedication to developing leadership capabilities in others come on the scene at organizations. Open or transparent about who they are, the authentic leaders are striving to link personal values to actions and individual values to organizational values (Shamir & Eilam, 2005). By this linkage, authentic leaders are expected to “transform” organizations into legitimate arena of moral striving and human fulfillment.

The armed forces of NATO, the foundation of military security in the collective and individual sense, have been, for years, constituting the determinants shaping their interoperability and effectiveness. Such actions are taken with varying intensity by all members also in terms of military leadership. The scope and comprehensiveness of these actions mainly oscillate around the perception of leadership in the context of the tool for shaping interpersonal relationships. The goal of the organizational context, which less attention is put to, is the proper section and training of the leaders, who are not accidentally appointed, but were chosen on the basis of a thoughtful process. Therefore, in the area of leadership considered an important organizational phenomenon, a variety of transformations are carried out, which are intended to improve leadership and the units implementing them, so it is used for the benefit of the armed forces. The Polish armed forces have also undertaken such actions. Their scope is to be based on a broad analysis of leadership in conducted in 2018. However, ensuring the optimization of further action requires the recognition of the most significant leadership transformations that have been implemented by the Alliance’sleading armed forces and are a guarantor of substantially higher quality of military leadership. These transformations are described and discussed in this paper.

This article examines the trend across the world to move towards centrally controlled education systems driven by a political desire that students might attain and schools be judged by a narrow range of measurable attainment targets with policing by inspections. It argues that this has emphasized management rather than leadership and that there is a need to refocus on more aspirational achievement aims for young people and schools. It defines and argues for integrity in both leadership and management and makes the case for the signifi cance of the way in which leaders lead. A transactional approach leads to the erosion of trust and transformational leaders in contrast build this up. The article explains why trust is so important and explains how trust can be developed in and by leaders and mangers. It finishes by outlining the challenge of developing leaders and managers of high-trust school cultures

The maritime industry is multinational and multicultural. Understanding which leadership skills that are effective in such environments is necessary to be a successful leader. Work experience in multinational companies will give a different insight into which management practices are seen as desirable for future maritime leaders within a global industry. According to trait theories there are properties that can be trained and some that are linked to personality, which are not easily trainable. Since leadership skills are a combination of both trainable and not so trainable skills, it is necessary to understand what types of skills are seen as endorsed, and not endorsed by the future maritime managers. The present paper shows results from a questionnaire study using the GLOBE Leadership questionnaire where 52 master of maritime management students (i.e. maritime managers of the future) rates 112 different leadership skills according to which degree these skills support outstanding leadership or not. The results show which leadership skills the maritime leaders of the future believe will support outstanding leadership. Contrasts between participant with and without work experience form multinational corporations will be shown – giving an indication of how the perception of leadership is changed through work experience in a multi-cultural context. The result will give an insight in how future management practices should be. Knowledge of the universally endorsed maritime leadership skills can be used as a guideline in the recruitment process for maritime managers.

The ability to manage other people’s behavior has always intrigued philosophers. The fate of each human being and each community depend – in a way that is not easy to measure – on other people. Who are these “other people”? Why can they determine the direction of our thoughts and actions? What relation takes place between them, those who manage, and us, who are willing to be obedient? Which part of our social subjectivity are we willing to give up for the sake of these “others”? Such and many more important questions mark what may seem as an undefined framework of a never-ending, inconclusive discourse. However, once we decide to take an active part in this discourse, we need to take a responsibility to frame the subject matter, at the very least in a conventional manner, remaining aware that when each argument and each statement are equally relevant in terms of their content value, none is worth attention since they all are deprived of their explanatory value.

The paper presents concepts of personalistic leadership and servant leadership as an alternative to the technocratic management. The most important issue in the two concepts of leadership is the empowerment, that is, the capacity of building the staff (competence, knowledge, motivation). Servant leadership is an American concept of leadership very similar to the concept of personalistic leadership. The differences arise from how to give reasons – servant leadership has inspired by religion (Christianity), whereas the concept of personalistic leadership is based on the personalism and phenomenology.

Purpose: To compare two transformational leadership instruments, Bass’s Full Range Leadership Model and its instrument Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire with the Transformational Leadership Scale proposed by Rafferty and Griffin (2004), using empirical evidence from a single sample. Methodology: The sample includes participants from different levels of the Estonian Defence Forces’ military hierarchy (N = 2570). The structures of the Transformational Leadership Scale and Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire were examined with exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, while other methods were used to compare the two instruments. Findings: The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire is statistically significantly better at predicting outcome variables like satisfaction with leader, effectiveness, and extra effort; however, the Transformational Leadership Scale did predict outcome variables at a sufficient level. Research & Practical Limitations/Implications: The current research contributes to the validation of the Transformational Leadership Scale proposed by Rafferty and Griffin (2004). The results indicated that the Transformational Leadership Scale is a valuable research tool to study transformational leadership; however, some subscales require further development. Moreover, we may conclude that there is a difference between subsamples – e.g. between commanders and conscripts – that describe outcome variables using the Transformational Leadership Scale as a transformational leadership instrument. Originality/value: There is very limited research that compares different transformational leadership instruments.

Celem artykułu jest prezentacja i omówienie najważniejszych kierunków poszukiwań etycznych podstaw przywództwa. Analizowane są: sformułowany w latach 70. ubiegłego wieku model przywództwa transformacyjnego, nawiązujący do idei dyskursu model przywództwa transpozycyjnego, koncepcje kładące nacisk na upodmiotowienie jednostek i propozycje nawiązujące do tradycji personalizmu chrześcijańskiego. Omówione koncepcje oferują odmienne kryteria etycznego przywództwa, a także strategie ich identyfikacji. Z analizy wynika, że poszukiwania są wyznaczane przez kluczowe wartości naszego kręgu cywilizacyjnego, takie jak demokracja, obywatelska podmiotowość, rozwój i autonomia jednostki. Celem artykułu jest także ilustracja, w jaki sposób koncepcje spoza obszaru badań nad przywództwem – np. rozwijane na gruncie zarządzania publicznego – mogą być wykorzystane w celu konkretyzacji postulatów modeli etycznego przywództwa.
The aim of this paper is to present and discuss the most influential concepts of ethical leadership. The article consecutively analyses the transforming leadership model as formulated in the 1970s, transpositional leadership based on the notion of discourse, and fi nally concepts focused on the empowerment of individuals and ideas associated with the tradition of Christian personalism. These models not only off er different criteria of ethical leadership, but likewise strategies for their identifi cation. The analysis demonstrates that the search for different criteria of ethical leadership is closely tied to the founding values of Western civilization, such as democracy, civil empowerment, autonomy and development of individuals. The paper also aims to illustrate how ideas from outside the area of leadership studies, e.g. developments in the domain of public management, can be used to specify the postulates of ethical leadership models.

In this article the features characteristic of the notion of competence, as well as the reasons for difficulty in defining the notion of school principal’s leadership competences, and a complex and multi-aspect structure of these competences are discussed. Simultaneously, the need for research over school principal’s leadership competences and over education of those occupying managerial positions at school, including their educational needs in the field of educational leadership and development of their leadership competences is considered. This article is based on the theoretical thesis formulated by Pablo Cardona and Pilar Garcia-Lombardia (2008) concerning leadership competences of managerial staff, as well as development of these competences, and assumption that high competences of educational leaders constitute one of the conditions of running a school successfully, in terms of school principals’ performing their own tasks and supporting teachers’ development and learning. The competence approach to the analysis of school principals’ work and responsibility connected with it makes it possible to demonstrate specific expectations concerning school principals’ education, professional development and work at school.

The author of the article focuses on the technological development of Japan and assessing her international position in that field. He argues that Japan could achieve a position of technological leader in the world thanks to an adroit and supporting policy of the state and a devotion of enterprises toward the technological development. But in current, more complicated domestic and external economic circumstances, the leading position of the country starts to be threatened. Because of growing competition from new rivals, mainly Asian, old leaders should adjust to the new situation. This means that in some fields of technology also Japan will lose her advantages.

Celem artykułu jest próba wskazania na możliwości analizowania kategorii przywództwa w kontekście edukacji dorosłych. Zaproponowane zostały trzy wątki interpretacyjne. Pierwszy to analiza współwystępujących współcześnie definicji przywództwa. Drugi wątek to rozpoznanie zasadniczych założeń koncepcji przywództwa w edukacji oraz przywództwa edukacyjnego. Trzecie zagadnienie to problem władzy, jako elementu relacji między liderami a osobami, na rzecz których podejmują oni swoje działania. Autorka analizuje kategorię przywództwa w kontekście budowania relacji między liderami a uczącymi się dorosłymi. Przywództwo ukazane zostało zarówno w jego organizacyjnym wymiarze, jak i w perspektywie realizacji oferty edukacyjnej dla uczących się dorosłych i projektowania środowiska sprzyjającego uczeniu się.
The objective of the article is to indicate the possibility of analysing the category of leadership in terms of adult education. Three aspects of interpretation have been suggested. The first one is the analysis of currently accepted definitions of leadership. The second one is recognition of fundamental assumptions of the concept of leadership in education and educational leadership. The third issue concerns power as an element of relations between leaders and those for who they undertake their activities. The author analyses leadership in context of building relations between leaders and learning adults. Leadership has been presented in terms of organizing as well as implementing an educational offer for adults and creating favourable learning environment.

The paper presents considerations on teachers’ educational leadership. What forms the basis of this consideration is the thesis that contemporary educational processes are more and more often reduced to management strategies in which teachers are treated as clerks and functionaries of the educational system. However, according to the author, the teaching profession primarily comes down to the personal dimension and consists in perceiving teachers as professionals who are ethically committed to facilitating students’ development. The paper presents problems connected with teachers’ educational leadership in the personal dimension based on the responsibility rule. What has been presented includes the essence of educational leadership, the notion, models and standards of this leadership as well as the selected teaching skills determining personal and responsible educational leadership
Artykuł prezentuje rozważania o przywództwie edukacyjnym nauczyciela. Podstawą rozważań jest teza, że we współczesnej rzeczywistości procesy edukacyjne sprowadzane są coraz częściej do strategii zarządzania a nauczyciel traktowany jest jako urzędnik/funkcjonariusz systemu oświaty. Praca nauczyciela, zdaniem autorki, ma jednak przede wszystkim wymiar osobowy i jest pochodną rozumienia nauczyciela jako profesjonalisty, etycznie zaangażowanego we wspieranie rozwoju ucznia. W artykule przedstawiono problematykę przywództwa nauczycielskiego w wymiarze osobowym opartym na zasadzie odpowiedzialności. Przedstawiono istotę przywództwa, pojęcie, model i standardy przywództwa edukacyjnego. In modern society, the use of technology occurs constantly, and it is already impossible to imagine human life without it. The spread and implementation of artificial intelligence in social processes form a specific interaction between this technology and society. Achieving only positive results from using intelligent software and systems requires awareness and responsibility from people when interacting with smart machines. The managerial responsibility of the leader when using artificial intelligence is an important topic of modern management. The article examines the role of artificial intelligence in the fourth industrial revolution era and considers statistical forecasts regarding its future impact on various spheres of human activity. The author analyzed the features of leadership in modern conditions of technology development and substantiated the specific role of a leader who uses the functions of artificial intelligence in management activities. The author proposed a hierarchical scheme of interaction of the participants of the production process in the organization, which arises when using intelligent systems to achieve the set goals. The main result of the work is the development of a scheme that reveals the need for the formation of a structure in the interaction of the organizational system with the technological potential of artificial intelligence. Using the proposed scheme by practitioners-managers will make it possible to use the latest technological developments as efficiently and safely as possible.

The contribution brings an analysis of transformational leadership among Slovak secondary education teachers in comparison with ideas of student teachers. The research sample consists of secondary education teachers (N = 142) and student teachers (N = 142). Data are obtained from the Slovak version of the LPI/Leadership Practices Inventory. Results indicate statistically significant differences in three dimensions favouring students against teachers: Model the Way, Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act. Slovak students consider transformational leadership practices essential as Slovak teachers apply them in their daily practice. Results are discussed mainly from the perspective of ontogenetic and educational practice.

Purpose: The focus of this article is on the axiology of leadership, which is a description of the guiding values and characteristics of a leader, including innovation, growth, skilful direction-setting, listening and attentiveness, proactive empowerment, accountability, judgment, and persuasion. Design/methodology/approach: The article uses the method of comparative-descriptive analysis. In this article, I characterize the different types of leadership including its strategic, activating, operational and forcing form. Findings: I refer to the scientific theory of authorities in the field of organizational management and leadership coaching by Owen, Krupp, Schoemaker, as well as Kaplan and Kaiser; for comparison, I also include Sieraczkiewicz’s leadership typology. Unconsciously, however, the leader’s qualities/attributes, when abused, can become the greatest obstacle and disadvantage, which not only thwarts all the efforts of the team, but also makes the leader-head of that team ineffective. Research limitations/implications: The text takes up issues related to the problem of development and self-development in the field of business. Practical implications: The paper concerns the development of an individual, leader and his team in the professional and private sphere. Text will be interest broadly understood business. Social implications: Unconsciously, however, the leader’s qualities/attributes, when abused, can become the greatest obstacle and disadvantage, which not only thwarts all the efforts of the team, but also makes the leader-head of that team ineffective. Originality/value: Originality of the article is confirmed by the description of basic features/values that every contemporary leader should cultivate. Characteristic feature of the contemporary leader is his versatility and the related axiological pluralism.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie założeń różnych teorii przywództwa oraz charakterystyka kompetencji przywódczych w kontekście organizacji wiedzochłonnych (knowledge‑intensive organisations, KIOs). Punkt wyjścia prowadzonych rozważań stanowiły studia krajowej i zagranicznej literatury, ukazujące ewolucję teorii przywództwa w podziale na teorie tradycyjne i współczesne oraz wskazujące na specyfikę organizacji wiedzochłonnych. Przeprowadzone analizy wykazały, że przywództwo w organizacjach wiedzochłonnych różni się od przywództwa w organizacjach tradycyjnych. Egzemplifikację prowadzonych rozważań stanowił polski oddział międzynarodowego koncernu. Wyniki zrealizowanych w nim badań jakościowych wykazały, że w tego rodzaju organizacjach przywództwo zawiera przede wszystkim elementy charakterystyczne dla przywództwa transformacyjnego, strategicznego i autentycznego.
The aim of the article is to present assumptions of different leadership theories and competences of leaders in a knowledge intensive context. The study of domestic and foreign publications was the starting point which enabled the author to illustrate the evolution of leadership theories by dividing these theories into traditional and modern ones, and to describe the nature of knowledge‑intensive organizations. The analyses confirmed that leadership in knowledge‑intensive organizations differs from leadership in traditional organizations. A Polish subsidiary of an international company served as an exemplification of the main considerations of the article. The empirical evidence of qualitative research confirmed that in knowledge‑intensive organizations leadership consists in elements characteristic for transformational, strategic and authentic leadership.

W dobie dynamicznego rozwoju i szybko zmieniających się warunków, którym muszą sprostać współczesne organizacje oraz ich pracownicy, kluczową kompetencją staje się elastyczność. W niektórych teoriach przywództwa podkreśla się także znaczenie posiadania przez liderów szerokiego zakresu możliwych do wykazania zachowań oraz umiejętności ich adekwatnego wyboru w różnorodnych sytuacjach. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest dokonanie analizy jednej z tych teorii, jaką jest koncepcja przywództwa wszechstronnego. Autor artykułu podjął próbę umiejscowienia tej koncepcji pośród innych modeli teoretycznych kładących nacisk na elastyczność przywódcy oraz przeanalizowania potencjalnego wkładu, jaki koncepcja ta może mieć dla lepszego zrozumienia efektywności działań lidera. Dodatkowo, w artykule zaproponowano obiecujące kierunki dalszych badań z wykorzystaniem opisywanego podejścia.
In the time of very dynamic development and rapidly changing conditions that need to be faced by contemporary organizations and employees, flexibility is becoming a key characteristic. Several theoretical approaches to effective leadership emphasize the importance of leader’s broad repertoire of possible behaviors combined with the ability to utilize them adequately in diverse situations. The goal of this article is to conduct an analysis of one of such approaches, namely the versatile leadership model. The author of the article made an attempt to situate this model among other theoretical approaches which stress the importance of leader’s flexibility. Additionally a possible contribution of the versatile leadership model assumptions to advancement of understanding of leader’s effectiveness is scrutinized. The article concludes with highlighting possible avenues for further research with the use of the described model.

One of the most important aspects of academic life is cooperation between researchers from different centres. Different levels of experience, approaches and paradigms enable researchers to observe the complete image of categories. The Political Leadership Section of the Polish Political Science Association has been formed during the Second Nationwide Congress of Political Science in Poznań (2012). The Association’s Board has established it on February 7, 2013. Since that day the section integrates scholars from different universities interested in issues of political leadership, it supports development of this research field in Poland, it collects published monographs, editions and papers relevant to this field and it coordinates development of teaching standards in education on political leadership. The section’s activity and its role in Polish academic community proves that this topic has become a significant aspect of social sciences in the country.

Leadership is a concept that stands in the limelight of both scientists and business professionals. In reviewing the literature on leadership many aspects emerge. A relatively new concept that many scientists have been focusing on in recent years is positive leadership. The purpose of this article is to present positive leadership concept and how it is expressed in Polish organizations.

Phenomenology of management seeks to grasp the essence of manager's work – its core is the analysis of leadership. Phenomenology of leadership is an approach that makes the idea “to be someone – to do something” becomes the guiding principle of of management. Max Scheler’s “moral flight” phenomenology is one of the most important inspiration in the analysis of leadership. His anthropology reveals that being a man is in fact a continuing task that is impossible to take, and the result depends on the man himself. Scheler’s phenomenology is a good way to discover the essence of leadership (eidos) in the process of culture change. This article presents a case study: Ricardo Semler’s inner transformation, who might overcome the technocratic attitude and make the “moral flight”. The main inspiration for him was a metaphor “builder of cathedrals”. As a result of his own inner transformation has become a “builder of cathedrals”, such as a leader, who serves – it was a condition for conversion of others in the “cathedral builders”. As a result of the Semler's “moral flight” their company was transformed in “cathedral builders” guild – community of work.

Any attempts to answer questions regarding the scope, essence and definition of leadership are certainly one of the most important discussion areas when it comes to the entire manage- ment science. As it was already indicated when analyzing the organization itself, many cru- cial aspects pertinent to the operation and functioning of every group or business depend on the efficiency and skill of the person managing in question or the individual units within its wi- der, complex structure. From a scientific point of view, but also taking into account quite a practical stance, a complete understanding of this concept comes under the area of numerous and ongoing studies. As in the case of certain concepts already discussed in the previous parts of this stu- dy, this definition – and any further treatises on the typology and specific styles implemented by lea- ders – can be considered either from a sociological and economic or purely sociological perspective. The understanding of the notion of leadership across management science takes into account many aspects and it continues to evolve under the influence of research, business development, markets as well as larger changes in the surrounding environment.

The politics in its nature is a process of making decisions. This approach emphasis on political leader who is responsible for defining a situation; formulation a plan of action and mobilize followers. Especially in Africa's context those problems are topical. Furthermore, a mosaic of cultures and religions imply wide deliberation on political leadership. It suggests to find that kind of theoretical concepts which are appropriate to analyses this vast subject. The article analyses three aspects. Firstly, focuses on the relation between political science and study on political leadership. Secondly, the attention is paid on leaders and followers motives for political participation. Finally, author defined political leadership and presents the most suitable theoretical concepts to analyses this topic in Africa's context. This sort of narrative is dictated by problems of diversity of Africa. The most useful theories showed answers for questions: is political leadership always sensible and affective; what kind of elements should be examines in analyses of political leadership; how features of person and a specificity of political system influence on political leaders; which cultures favour political leadership. All this problems are solved in this article. The conclusions allowed to formulate the basis elements for empirical examine.

The aim of the article is to define the political leadership of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and present the attributes and factors, which primarily influenced the effectiveness of his leadership in the Turkish society. Erdoğan has a strong and unquestioned position in his own party as well as on the Turkish political scene. For a significant part of the society, he is an irreplaceable person and the best leader in the history of the country. Factors which have a major influence on his success are of social, economic and cultural nature. He is a leader, who can easily turn a crisis to his own advantage and convince his followers to support his own arguments. Erdoğan’s activities, which were firmly focused on economic issues, health care reforms and Turkey’s integration with the European Union, enabled him to gain the support of even this part of the society whose values are distant from the ones he accepts. At the same time, he represents a confrontational attitude towards political opponents and often expresses his reluctance towards them.
Celem artykułu jest zdefiniowanie przywództwa politycznego Recepa Tayyipa Erdoğana, przedstawienie jego atrybutów oraz czynników, które w głównej mierze wpłynęły na skuteczność przywództwa w tureckim społeczeństwie. Erdoğan posiada silną i niekwestionowaną pozycję we własnej partii i na tureckiej scenie politycznej. Dla znacznej części społeczeństwa jest postacią niezastąpioną i najlepszym przywódcą w historii kraju. Czynniki, które w głównej mierze wpływają na sukces jego przywództwa mają charakter społeczny, ekonomiczny oraz kulturowy. Jest to przywódca, który z łatwością potrafi przekształcić kryzys w korzyść dla siebie i przekonać zwolenników do własnych racji. Działania Erdoğana mocno skoncentrowane na kwestiach gospodarczych, reformach służby zdrowia i integracji Turcji z Unią Europejską pozwoliły mu zdobyć poparcie nawet tej części społeczeństwa, której wartości odbiegają od przyjętych przez niego wartości. Jednocześnie przejawia on konfrontacyjną postawę wobec oponentów politycznych i wyraża niechętny stosunek wobec nich

Implementation of the new concepts of public management, such as new public management resulted in an adaptation of administration management methods from business. This includes, among others, leadership. The latest public administration theory, i.e. new public service, emphasises ethical aspects of management. This is the reason, among others, for application of normative leadership theories, such as transformational leadership, in public service, despite the fact that leader’s charisma is its central point. It seems that the concept of authentic leadership could be more suited to public management. The characteristics of the authentic leader – relational transparency, internalised moral perspective, sustainable proceedings and self-awareness, mostly reflect its normative character. This article is an attempt to apply the theory of authentic leadership in public administration.
Wprowadzanie w życie nowych koncepcji zarządzania publicznego, takich jak new public management spowodowało adaptację z biznesu metod kierowania administracją. Dotyczy to między innymi przywództwa. W najnowszej teorii administracji publicznej, czyli new public service, akcentuje się z kolei etyczne aspekty zarządzania. Stąd między innymi wynika zastosowanie w służbie publicznej normatywnych teorii przywództwa, takich jak przywództwo transformacyjne, mimo że centralnym jej punktem jest charyzma lidera. Wydaje się, że bardziej dopasowana do zarządzania publicznego może być koncepcja autentycznego przywództwa. Komponenty zachowania autentycznego lidera – transparentność relacyjna, zinternalizowana perspektywa moralna, zrównoważone procedowanie oraz samoświadomość, w większości oddają jej normatywny charakter. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi próbę zastosowania teorii autentycznego przywództwa w administracji publicznej.

Purpose: Sixty-five HR general managers representing companies from a variety of industries took part in the research that we conducted between April and October 2013. They had identified leadership development as the most significant factor in the growth of the top firms in Poland’s economy. We have conducted in-depth interviews to understand the perception of the leadership concept. We have found that they tend to focus on the following dimensions of leadership: conveying a vision, inspiring, being charismatic, being credible, being able to manage others, and having good interpersonal skills. Research limitations and implications: The main limitation of the research is that it does not allow for generalization of findings on perceived dimensionality of leadership on larger population of HR Executives. Our findings imply that leadership development will soon be a strong priority among HR teams of 500 largest companies, but several dimensions are not present in their description of leadership. Originality/value: Our paper makes three contributions to the literature. We have developed a managerial attention view of the firm by surveying senior HR executives. CEOs, CFOs, and top management teams tend to be subject of studies in this theoretical tradition more often than HR executives, Another contribution is the use of mixed methods that is rather rare yet offering vast opportunities for triangulation and knowledge building in the discipline. Our third contribution is that we applied a standard scale of the multidimensional leadership concept.

Lean Leadership jest nowym podejściem, które współtworzy przywództwo z zastosowaniem koncepcji Lean, która przyczynia się do uzyskania lepszych efektów końcowych. W podsumowaniu zaprezentowano wnioski dotyczące implementacji tej koncepcji w przedsiębiorstwach.
The chapter analyzes the issue of leadership and its role in the Lean Management concept. The focus was mainly on the resources of national literature and international. Leadership has been characterized in the aspect of individual tasks that support the implementation of the Lean Management concept. Lean Leadership is a new approach that co-creates leadership with the Lean concept that contributes to better final results. The summary presents conclusions regarding the implementation of this concept in enterprises.

Within the context of increasingly digital work, it appeared interesting to look at how military leaders and their leadership style will have to adapt to remain “up-to-speed” with current challenges. It is qualitative research based on interviews with military and civilian experts. Four interviews have been conducted, but there would be the potential to interview many more experts and look deeper into the matter. Within the context of digitalised military leadership, the importance of communication and mutual trust has been underscored by the experts. They agreed that leaders nowadays must embrace digital developments and include them in their leadership styles. The civilian world can learn from the military when it comes to leadership approaches, which is happening at the time of publication of this article with practical examples (senior military leaders assigned to lead the pandemic task force in some countries). Overall, the outcome of the research is that a relevant and resilient military leadership style in the 21st century resembles the elements of the situational leadership style developed by Hersey-Blanchard.

The definition of leadership and the role of leadership in generating and maintaining effective organizational change has been widely studied for a long time. Leadership is often defined in terms of the influence, emotional manipulation, classical top-down approach. We must learn to build leadership concept on a foundation of ethical reasoning, rather than pretending that leadership and ethics are separate. The search for leadership and the search for ethics amount to the same thing, and both have to be connected to our concept of corporate identity. As a practical example of such an attitude the typology of different leadership paradigms is analysed. We suggest here that organic paradigm, or co-leadership, is the most adaptive to the challenges of corporate social responsibility transformation. Good leadership, in moral and technical sense, means participative leadership which can create conditions within organizations for employee and stakeholder empowerment. In this ongoing process values become an integral part of the practice of daily management, the means by which the responsible company acts.

urpose: Empirical research on entrepreneurship in organizations has brought disparate and often contradictory evidence related to the impact of leadership on creativity in organizations. The purpose of this paper is to explore and discuss the impact of different leadership styles on creativity, with the view to formulating an integrated conceptual model that links creative novelty and creative practicality with leadership. Methodology: The author applied the methodology of meta-theoretical review. In accordance with the principles of theoretical bricolage, a new conceptual model was built on the basis of the multidimensional creativity theory and the leadership theory. In her analysis, the author took into account leadership styles that have already been subject to research; each of them was mapped in the two-dimensional space of organizational creativity. Findings: In order to fully understand the reasons for differences in organizational creativity, the drivers of divergences in the space of creative novelty and creative practicality need to be clarified. Greater knowledge about the impact of leadership styles on the structure and configuration of organizational creativity is necessary. In this paper, the author provides a theoretical framework that illustrates manners in which leadership influences organizational creativity. The model clarifies the role that leadership plays in shaping a unique configuration of organizational creativity, and consequently in ensuring the necessary internal adaptation of an organization. Originality: The value of this research lies in the situational interpretation of various leadership styles in the context of their impact on organizational creativity. The analysis goes beyond the conventional discussion about leadership and creativity, focused on establishing whether a given leadership style proves beneficial or not for organizational creativity. The paper identifies particular effects that several key leadership styles have on organizational creativity; they are depicted in a new theoretical framework

Today, as never before, the aspects of ethical leadership are the subject of special attention. Appearing almost daily about the next scandals both in politics and business, often undermining the reputation of people endowed with social trust, cause the need to take a broad discussion on building a solid foundation of ethics. The purpose of the boards of both corporations and state and local authorities is the creation of rules and canons, which are likely to be accepted only if the leaders of their conduct manifested a clear subordination of established canons. Ethical aspects in the problems of leadership, play an extremely important role. Increased interest in the scientific problem of moral conduct, the canons of construction principles, promote the diffusion of positive attitudes within the organization should be regarded as a ray of hope in the permeated pathologies, corruption and nepotism today’s grim reality. In the following paper author will address some specifi c views showing the essence of ethics in relation to leadership.

Philosophies of leadership have tended to express and support idealistic or realistic approaches to leadership. Leadership elitism maintains essentially that successful leaders must know and do what is best for their followers, because their followers are not capable of knowing and doing what is best for themselves. This essay offers descriptions of the contrasting traits of leadership idealism and realism, both of which explain elitism as a common trait of idealism. These descriptions are exemplified with an overview of some past and current leadership philosophies, and then with an in-depth analysis of the early twentieth-century views of the African-Americans thinkers W.E.B. Du Bois (idealist) and Booker T. Washington (realist). Some remarks on where leadership philosophy is and could be in the twenty-first century conclude the essay.

Niniejsza praca zawiera przegląd różnych typów toksycznych liderów w  organizacjach – od gnębicieli po narcyzów. Toksyczni liderzy są bolesnym, jednak powszechnym elementem rzeczywistości w  wielu organizacjach. Ich destrukcyjne zachowania i  dysfunkcyjne cechy osobowości często trwale szkodzą osobom, którymi kierują. Gdy podejmują decyzje, kierują się zazwyczaj egoistycznymi pobudkami, co prowadzi do tego, że sytuacja pracowników się pogarsza zamiast poprawiać. Dobrych menedżerów od przeciętnych odróżnia zdolność do skutecznego zarządzania dysfunkcyjnymi liderami w  miejscu pracy. Nawet jeśli niektóre organizacje mogą promować (lub po prostu tolerować) toksycznych liderów z  przyczyn ekonomicznych lub politycznych, często lekceważy się ich długoterminowy wpływ na misję i  reputację przedsiębiorstwa. Autor proponuje pewne skuteczne strategie, które pozwalają znaleźć toksycznych liderów i  toksyczne miejsca pracy, zająć się nimi i  wywołać zmiany.
This study reviews different typologies of toxic leaders in organizations-from bullies to narcissistic leaders. Unfortunately, toxic leaders are a painful but common reality in many organizations. Their destructive behaviors and dysfunctional personal characteristics often generate enduring poisonous effects on those they lead. They are identified by selfish outcomes in their decision-making and how they leave subordinates worse off than when they began. What distinguishes excellent from average managers is their ability to effectively manage dysfunctional leaders in the workplace. Even though some organizations may promote or simply tolerate toxic leaders for economic or political reasons, the long-term impact on the company's mission and reputation is often underestimated. The author suggests some effective coping strategies to identify, address, and transform toxic leaders and workplaces.

The article presents organizational and training solutions in the field of leadership competencies of managers and officers candidates in the General Tadeusz Kosciuszko Military Academy of Land Forces in Wrocław. The basis for the authors consideration was to demonstrate that the leadership competencies of managers guaranteed the sustainable competitiveness of organizations and commanders leadership competencies were the guarantee of getting advantage in the modern battlefield. The authors therefore formulate directions for improvement in leadership competencies education, both civilian students and officer cadets, respond to the challenges of the modern business requirements and military units. The article focuses on the changes not only the development process of leadership competencies in the curriculum, but also to improve the processes of recruitment of candidates to the officer profession. Since 2007 the authors have participated in the design of educational programs (curriculum) for students and officer cadets at the Faculty of Management GTKMALF [WSOWL] and have offered system solutions for the development of leadership competencies. Their goal, however, was primarily an explanation of a complex education system of candidates for officers of the army and students in management studies in a military academy in Wrocław.

Scientific discussion on political leadership increasingly takes on the form of interdisciplinary argumentation, in which different research perspectives, models and explanatory conceptual grids overlap. This state of affairs is on the one hand dictated by the contemporary trends in scientific research, especially in the broadly defined social sciences, where the cognitive, explanatory or descriptive relevance is achieved only by taking into account a broader, inter-disciplinary nature of scientific knowledge. In this sense, a thorough, reliable research practice consists primarily in crossing the formal borders of scientific disciplines, where researchers renounce the “complex” of detailed and firm definitions of their own subject of study to turn instead towards integration of knowledge from various, often very different, areas. The above is mainly due to the dispersion of objective scientific knowledge, which is conditioned, among others by: scientific and technical progress, the phenomenon of intertextuality (modern researchers in humanities concentrate their research eff ort on the texts and practices associated with this phenomenon, which means that their primary method in analyses of political phenomena is to fortify the text – specifically, to prepare the scientific text in such a way as to meet the standards of scientific writing and withstand criticism in the absence of the writer); as well as conceptual-theoretical pluralism present in social sciences. On the other hand, it is the result of scientific analysis of the given forms and practices of leadership, where nowadays greater attention is paid to the multi-dimensionality of leadership processes in politics, related to: the multi-level nature of concepts and research (meso, micro and macro-theoretical level analyses) and the need to take into account a large number of variables in the study of leadership (personality and environmental, situational, institutional factors, economic, political or religious variables). The consequence of this state of affairs is the multi-paradigm character of leadership, which in this case means that very often highly different ways of defining and explaining the complex relationship between a particular political leader and followers co-exist within the discipline. In addition, the multiplicity of paradigms of political leadership is a feature demonstrating the interdisciplinary nature of knowledge generated by political science, where various claims, theses, observations or conclusions complement each other, for example those originating in disciplines such as sociology, law, psychology, management sciences and cultural studies.

Schools traditionally operate under a meritocratic system. Those children who fulfil systemic merit deserving criteria are selected as leaders within the school system. Furthermore, it is these children who stand the best chance to gain access to leadership positions once they have left school. Their silk is seen and acknowledged. They have the track record that organisations look at as first selection criteria when they are looking to appoint school leavers with an eye on promotion to leadership positions. W dynamicznie zmieniającym się otoczeniu Kościoła poszukuje się silnego i skutecznego przywództwa. Na szczeblu parafialnym takim przywódcą może być proboszcz jako przywódca transformacyjny. Przywódca transformacyjny cechuje się posiadaniem jasnej wizji, do której zmierza, oraz umiejętnością przekonywania do niej osób, którymi kieruje. Proboszcz jako przywódca transformacyjny posiada wizję parafii przyszłości, a także niezbędne kwalifikacje do wprowadzenia jej w życie oraz pociągnięcia za sobą ogółu parafian. W procesie wprowadzania zmian proboszcz powinien stosować następujące style kierowania parafią: misyjny, integracyjny, perswazyjny, promocyjny i demokratyczny.
The dynamically transforming environment of the Church is seeking for a strong and effective leadership. At the parish level it is the parson who can be such a transformational leader. A trans-formational leader is a person with a clear vision which he is tending to implement, he is the one able to convince the people he leads to support his vision. The parson as a transformational leader has vision of a parish of the future as well as necessary qualifications for implementing it and for attracting the majority of parishioners. In the process of transformation the parson should use the following management styles in the parish: the missionary, integration, persuasive, promotional and democratic style.

The article examines President Donald Trump’s leadership through the lenses of Bernard M. Bass’s model of transformational leadership. It starts with a description of what transformational leadership is and what it consists of. Second, the author takes a look at some of the features of transformational leadership, such as high ethical conduct, arousing team spirit, and inclusion of followers, and applies them to Trump. Finally, the author discusses the results of the analysis and explains why these findings are important and thought-provoking. The peculiar novelty of the study lies in the use of the theory and model of transformational leadership, developed by Bass and formulated on the basis of the science of management and organization. This is one of the innovative elements that distinguish the author’s project from previous works on political leadership.
Artykuł analizuje przywództwo prezydenta Donalda Trumpa w oparciu o model przywództwa transformacyjnego Bernarda M. Bassa. Na wstępie autor definiuje przywództwo transformacyjne oraz omawia jego kluczowe komponenty. Następnie przygląda się niektórym cechom przywództwa transformacyjnego, takim jak: postępowanie etyczne, wzbudzanie ducha zespołowego czy włączanie zwolenników, i odnosi je do Trumpa. Na koniec autor omawia wyniki analizy i wyjaśnia, dlaczego są ważne i skłaniają do refleksji. Swoistą nowością opracowania jest wykorzystanie teorii i modelu przywództwa transformacyjnego opracowanego przez Bassa i sformułowanego na gruncie nauk o zarządzaniu i organizacji. Jest to jeden z nowatorskich elementów wyróżniających autorski projekt spośród dotychczasowych prac dotyczących przywództwa politycznego.

W artykule podjęto próbę poszukiwania odpowiedzi na dwa pytania: po pierwsze, czy istnieje wyraźnie wyodrębniony system wartości, jakim powinni kierować się przywódcy wojskowi, i po drugie, czy potrafimy podać niezawodne reguły aksjologiczne przywództwa wojskowego. Z przeprowadzonych analiz i rozważań wynika, że na oba te pytania nie można dać odpowiedzi zdecydowanie twierdzących lub przeczących, co stanowi poważną trudność w przygotowaniu kandydatów na przywódców wojskowych.
The paper makes an attempt to look for an answer to two questions: first, is there a clearly separated system of values to be observed by military leaders, and second, can we provide reliable axiological rules for military leadership. The analyses and considerations carried out so far show that it is not possible to give either „yes” or „no” answers, which constitutes a serious problem in training candidates for military leaders.

The main purpose of the proposed paper is to analyze paradigms (theoretical frames) of leadership owned and used by school principals. The analysis is based on the results of the research conducted for the purpose of defining and describing the school principals’ way of thinking about leadership for education. For the purpose of building framework for research it was assumed that four leadership paradigms might be defined. Leadership might be understood through classic paradigm of leadership (domination of the significant person or elite group); or transactional paradigm (influence and negotiations); or visionary paradigm (called sometimes charismatic where the most import ant is clear vision); or organic paradigm (existing in multicultural and diverse world where leadership is flexible and leaders change dependently on a situation) Three methods have been used: interview with 99 principals of schools (of different type), observation in the same number of schools and analyses of the blogs (written on-line by school principals). It is common to ignore the mental models (or paradigms) used by people what brings certain outcomes for every initiative. It is necessary for policy making, change projects or developmental initiatives to recognize and take under consideration the diversity of possible perspectives (mental models) owned by those who are working in the concerned area, in this case head teachers. Civilization changes influence context and demands towards schools. Those challenges impact the modernization of schools. One of the common expectation towards management are more open - participative mode of the decision making process and the involvement of employees in sharing responsibilities. Unfortunately different initiatives towards inclusion of employees into management and leadership processes bring rather disappointing results because they ignore ideologies and assumptions of people who decide about school functioning. Analysis of the results of the research should improve the understanding of the school reality by showing strategies and decisions adequate to the state of “educational consciousness”.

The material subject of Catholic social science is man and his actions taken in the fields of politics, the economy and society. According to its rules each person should be engaged in building the world through the realization of his or her vocation. One kind of vocation might be leading people by acting in accordance with the Gospel and teachings of the Church. The most important values for the leader in this case would be: respect for human dignity and human rights, freedom, justice, the subsidiarity principle and cooperation due to creating the common good. The listed rules are realized by servant leadership, the idea functioning in the field of management that derives its origins from Christ’s speech: whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant (Mt 20:27).

Leadership is not only a privilege granted to formally commanders, but also a duty and responsibility to their employees, which are expressed in the form of decisions. Absolute obedience forcing connected with the abuse of power possessed should not play such a significant role in command. The modern leader should he seek and create situations in which it may point out, not to impose their formal leadership. For this to happen, however, needs to understand what the sources of its formal leadership are and realize that power is only a formal basis for the complex process of becoming a leader.

The article discusses the phenomenon of the narcissistic leadership in organizations. The author brief- ly reviews the literature on subclinical narcissism in the organizational context and presents different theoretical and empirical perspectives on the narcissistic leadership. The article also presents positive and negative aspects of narcissistic leadership, reflecting its “bright” and “dark” side. Finally, as leader narcissism can be problematic in organizational context, some propositions for human resource management are offered.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie zagadnienia przywództwa politycznego na szczeblu lokalnym. Rozważania rozpoczynają się zatem od wyjaśnienia znaczenia przywództwa politycznego, aby następnie zaprezentować jego wymiar lokalny. Ponadto wśród analizowanych kategorii badawczych znajdują się podstawowe czynniki, które kształtują przywództwo polityczne w samorządzie terytorialnym wraz z cechami, charakteryzującymi liderów lokalnych. Artykuł przedstawia także typy przywództwa, które występują w samorządzie terytorialnym, aby na tej podstawie wskazać z jakim modelem przywództwa mamy do czynienia w konkretnych państwach na świecie. Pracę zamykają konkluzje, które odnoszą się do wyznaczników dobrego oraz efektywnego przywództwa w samorządzie lokalnym.
The purpose of this article is to present the issue of political leadership at the local level. The article therefore begin by explaining the importance of political leadership, and then present its local dimension. Moreover, among the categories of research analyzed are key factors which shape political leadership in local government, together with features which characterize local leaders. It is worth noting that the article also shows the types of leadership which exist in local government, and on this basis, identify what model of leadership we have in specific countries around the world. The article closes with conclusions relating to the determinants of good and effective leadership in local government and the role of local leaders.

The research paper provides a blueprint of the steps required via transformation leadership style to breed adequate culture and lead a healthy professional learning community through adopting and applying the Entrepreneurial University Model.

Artykuł ma na celu, zwrócenie uwagi na potrzebę wprowadzenia do programów kształcenia i szkolenia wszystkich szczebli dowodzenia, tematyki związanej z przywództwem i możliwościami jego stosowania. Zintegrowane szkolenia kursowe mogą być jednym z rozwiązań, tak jak to się dzieje w armiach sojuszniczych. Uzyskanie pozytywnej opinii stanowiłoby przepustkę do obejmowania coraz wyższych stanowisk dowódczych lub skierowania do pracy sztabowej. Jednakże podstawą rozpoczęcia szkolenia jest wypracowanie odpowiedniego modelu przywództwa, adekwatnego do zadań stawianych przyszłemu dowódcy w zmieniających się warunkach otoczenia. Do dzisiaj czerpiemy ze wzorców sojuszniczych nie wprowadzając własnych rozwiązań, być może artykuł przyczyni się do głębszego spojrzenia na problem i wprowadzenia zmian.
The ongoing professionalization of the Polish Armed Forces as well as the completion of tasks abroad necessitate redefinition of the current process of troops commanding and training, particularly at the lowest tactical level. The decentralisation of command processes, the saturation of the battlefield with state-of-the-art assets supporting command processes and “personal contact” between a superior and his/her subordinate require full decision-making and an ability to select the right tools to lead in a particular situation. This is the only way to ensure that tasks are carried out at a high level, efficiently and according to the objectives set. Looking into the future, a commander needs to be provided with a certain degree of freedom while feeling the responsibility he/she is shouldering. The specification of these conditions in conjunction with appropriate cohesive education and practical training at all command levels will increase its creativity and allow a military organisation to smoothly respond to new challenges and threats.

The literature in the leadership field covers extensive research, studies and compendia. However, only a small part of them are focused on leadership in research and development (R&D) teams working on innovations. Those authors who address the subject highlight the specifics of the scientists’ and engineers’ leadership engaged in creative work on innovation. Even less research and papers are connected with academic scientific teams searching for technology-based innovations, while one can recognize a research gap in the area of leadership, in sophisticated technology-based project teams like interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary teams. In this article was present a review of literature on leadership of innovative R&D teams. The goal of the article is to present a review of the literature in the area of leadership in R&D teams, along with a critical analysis of selected leadership models as well as an indication of the research interest and trends in terms of the described issues.

In this article the author discusses the difference between the concepts of power, leadership and influence; both concerning their use arbitrarily and their treatment as the interdependent variables. The analysis of some of the given definitions show that the term "presidential leadership” is narrowed to describe the public activities of the head of state. Sometimes the term is also used to compare the actions of many presidents. Many authors are inconsistent with their usage of the term in other wider contexts - particularly the contexts of the comprehensive political situation and the context of president's supporters. The conclusion of the article includes a statement claimed that the majority of the books and papers on presidential leadership are not actually on the leadership process but rather the power of the president. Thus, explaining that there is still a need to accurately define and describe the phenomenon of presidential leadership.

The aim of this paper is to analyse leadership in Polish political parties in comparative perspective. In the further parts of this paper, the methods of leader selections, their competitiveness, as well as reasons for their stepping down are discussed. Similarly to the western political parties, the Polish ones have been changing their methods of leadership selection. So far each time it has consisted in a formal increase in the inclusiveness of the selection. The reasons for transferring the rights relating to the leadership selection to party members were brought closer to the premises typical for Westminster democracies rather than the consensual ones. The analysis of the Polish case shows that the internal elections have been characterized by different levels of competitiveness.

The problematic facing African transformation in a fast growing world is multifaceted; these include ignorance, lack of technology complex, effective leadership, democratic governance, illiteracy, lack of consensus, and empathy, ethno-religious crises, economic woes, cultural chauvinism, African un-freedom and political instability. African transformation in a fast growing world requires an accelerated proportion of scholarly attention. This paper analyzes the need for Africa to embrace a multi-level approach in redressing the problem of knowledge, certitude, technology complex, scientific progression and assimilation. African society from a contemporary perspective must begin to embrace technical-know-how or expertise coupled with effective or superb leadership skills that is aimed at effective democratic governance in order to affect African potentials and African development. Leaders of governments in Africa in this fast growing world must begin to embrace and engage themselves with comparative evaluation of Africa with the rest of the world. Africa as a continent is lagging behind and is facing serious contemporary challenges of low productivity level, socio-economic crises and political instability. All these must be addressed in order to give Africa a face lift. This paper appreciates and appropriates a multi-level approach in ensuring that there is the prevalence of African freedom, African transformation in the fast growing world even in the mid of her challenges. Africa should and must not remain static but dynamic politically, socially, culturally, scientifically, technologically, psychologically, intellectually and economically.

Celem artykułu jest analiza oczekiwań stawianych wobec liderów kształtowanych poprzez uczestnictwo w programach rozwoju przywództwa (PRP) z perspektywy osób zarządzających PRP w dużych przedsiębiorstwach. Problematykę badawczą ujęto w postaci pytania badawczego: czego uczestnik otoczenia społeczno-gospodarczego oczekuje od współczesnego lidera? Zasadnicza część badania polegała na przeprowadzeniu 26 indywidualnych wywiadów pogłębionych. Analizę przeprowadzono, wykorzystując procedury teorii ugruntowanej. Dane wskazują, że dla większości zarządzających PRP – osób odpowiedzialnych za planowanie, opracowanie i/lub akceptację curriculum, ale i kontrolę PRP – role lidera i menedżera często są tożsame i stosowane zamiennie. Świadomość różnic pomiędzy zarządzaniem i przewodzeniem jest ograniczona, bez względu na płeć i wiek rozmówców czy branżę, w której operuje podmiot. Wyniki niniejszego badania poszerzają wiedzę na temat sposobów postrzegania liderów i zakresu kształcenia adeptów przewodzenia. Oczekiwania stawiane wobec nich dotyczą obszarów kompetencyjnych, roli, funkcji, ale i odwołują się do rezultatów obserwowalnych w otoczeniu społecznym, kulturowym i ekonomicznym. Konieczne wydaje się jednak uświadomienie różnic pomiędzy liderem a menedżerem, by kształtować autentycznych liderów, nie jedynie skutecznych menedżerów.
This study aims to analyze the expectations placed on leaders nurtured during leadership development programs (LDPs) participation from the perspective of LDP managers in large companies. The research question is as follows: what does a participant in the socio-economic environment expect from a contemporary leader? The core part of the study was to conduct 26 individual in-depth interviews. The analysis of the data was based on grounded theory procedures. The data indicate that for most LDPs managers, those responsible for planning, curriculum development and/or approval, but also LDPs control, the roles of leader and manager are often used interchangeably. Awareness of the differences between managing and leading is limited, regardless of the sex, age of the interviewees, and industry in which the entity operates. The results of this study broaden the knowledge about the perception of leaders and the scope of education of leadership adepts. The expectations placed upon them relate to areas of competence, role, and function,but also refer to the results observable in the social, cultural, and economic environment. However, it seems necessary to understand the differences between a leader and a manager to nurture authentic leaders, not only effective managers.

The aim of the paper was to present the results of the study on the relationship between the quality of leadership and employee’s satisfaction with remuneration. There was a statistically significant influence of all aspects of authentic leadership (relational transparency, fair conduct, self-awareness, internalised moral perspective) on the employee’s satisfaction with their remuneration. It turned out that not only job satisfaction, but also satisfaction with remuneration including recognising remuneration as decent and comparable to similar work in a similar position in other workplaces, depends on the perceived leadership of direct supervisors.

Poniższa praca przedstawia badania dotyczące możliwych różnic w sposobie przywództwa między kobietami a mężczyznami. Badanie ma charakter wstępny i ma na celu zainicjowanie dyskusji na temat wpływu płci jako czynnika wpływającego na przywództwo. Analiza danych z badania pilotażowego sugeruje, że różnice istnieją, natomiast nie odpowiada na pytanie co jest ich źródłem. Aby odpowiedzieć na to pytanie, konieczne są dalsze badania.
The following study presents preliminary research into leadership differences between men and women. This research study is preliminary in character and is intended to initiate a discussion on the impact of gender as a factor in leadership style. Data analysis from a pilot study suggests that differences do exist, but does not provide information as to their source. Further research is needed to answer that question.

Leadership of graduate managers has become a focal point of many employers worldwide. Leadership development is in high demand and leadership initiatives are an effective tool for career development in the corporate environment. The objectives of the study were to assess the Transformational Leadership (TL) and Emotional Intelligence (EI) level of graduate managers, and to analyse the relationship between their EI and TL performances at work. The role of gender in leadership was examined. Sixty three graduate managers (33 men, and 30 women) who are following the masters' degree programme were randomly selected from a Sri Lankan university. The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire of Bass and Avolio, was used to assess the leadership style performances of the respondents. Genos EI Inventory was used to measure their EI level. Descriptive and inferential analyses of data were conducted using SPSS software. Respondents recorded higher scores for TL performances at work. Respondents' EI levels and TL styles re?ected a difference with regard to their gender. Respondents have scored slightly lower scores for the EI sub-constructs in comparison to the normative figures of Genos EI. The higher fluctuation of Mean values of respondents indicated the volatility of the reasoning ability of respondents. The fact that graduate managers depicted higher scores for progressive leadership styles and lower scores for passive leadership styles augurs well for their career development. Emotional Intelligence of men significantly related with their Transformational leadership style. Study concludes that high Transformational leadership of Sri Lankan graduates managers and manageresses, and the relationship of Transformational Leadership with managers EI as well, could enhance management and production performances in corporate environments.

The article focuses on the educational leadership of the school principal. This issue is particularly important in an era of intense changes in the world that create new challenges that modern schools must face. The currently observed social, economic and cultural phenomena and processes affect new expectations towards the teacher, related to their openness to these changes and the readiness to face them. This will only be possible under appropriate conditions created by the school principal, whose roles and tasks have also evolved. The main direction of these changes is the transition from the administrative management of the school-institution to the model of the principal as an educational leader. The process of educational leadership is particularly important in school practice, where the main task is to create conditions for the development and operation of teachers and build the culture of a learning organization.
Podjęte w artykule rozważania koncentrują się na przywództwie edukacyjnym dyrektora szkoły. Jest to problematyka szczególnie istotna w dobie intensywnych przemian świata stwarzających coraz to nowe wyzwania, z którymi musi się mierzyć współczesna szkoła. Obserwowane obecnie zjawiska i procesy społeczne, gospodarcze oraz kulturowe rzutują na nowe oczekiwania kierowane wobec nauczyciela, związane z otwartością na te zmiany oraz gotowością do ich kreowania. Będzie to możliwe jedynie w odpowiednich warunkach stwarzanych przez dyrektora szkoły, którego role i zadania również uległy ewolucji. Głównym kierunkiem tych zmian jest przejście od administracyjnego kierowania szkołą-instytucją do modelu dyrektora jako przywódcy edukacyjnego – lidera. Proces przywództwa edukacyjnego jest szczególnie ważny w praktyce szkolnej, gdzie podstawowym zadaniem staje się stwarzanie warunków do rozwoju i działania nauczycieli oraz budowanie kultury organizacji uczącej się.

The issue of leadership is becoming increasingly a phenomenon studied by specialists in political sciences. However, the emerging theoretical concepts call for constant changes and updates due to the political practice. This is supported by the changes in the political scene observed in many countries, generally referred to as the “populist revolution”. This phenomenon, with varying intensity, has been present on the Italian political scene for almost a quarter of a century. The specificity of Italian populism should be expressed concerning three political leaders: Silvio Berlusconi, Beppe Grillo and Matteo Renzi. Although, there are many differences between them – the time of appearance, the scope of power and political culture, there are also common formal references regarding personal image and applied rhetoric. The distinct approach of leadership to populism has been further strengthened by the increasing use of new means of social communication. As a result, the intersection of technology and social change has had and will have a significant impact on the perception of politics in the future.

Purpose: We propose and test a new leadership model. Our model is an extension of the leaderplex model which proposes that leader cognitive and social complexities are linked with leader effec tiveness indirectly, in a mediation scheme, through behavioral complexity. We enhance the leader plex model with a leader’s degree of managerial discretion as the moderator of the links in this mediation format. Methodology: We test our model with a moderated mediation approach (Baron-Kenny four-step procedure and Preacher-Hayes bootstrapping methods). Findings: We use results of interviews with top leaders in Poland and demonstrate that a leader’s managerial discretion is a moderator affecting the mediation scheme assumed in the leaderplex model. Limitations: The sample size is only 29 leaders. To preserve the respondents’ anonymity, their opinions were evaluated by only one researcher who interviewed them directly. The results may be country specific (Poland). Originality: We define new boundary conditions for the leaderplex model by showing importance of a leader’s real position (managerial discretion) in an organization. Specifically, we show that the nature of the relationships between the variables of interest will change when a leader operates in one physical environment (e.g., high managerial discretion) rather than another (e.g., low managerial discretion). null

The overall purpose of this paper was to compare a representative sample of Polish middle managers with a representative sample of chief executive officers (CEOs) from six chosen countries, in regard to selected leadership traits and behaviors. We present a small portion of data collected under the GLOBE project, Phase 3, and longitudinal research findings concerning subordinates’ assessments of Polish middle managers in relation to their attributes from 2008 to 2012. The GLOBE, Phase 3 research is the first study to investigate several thousands of CEOs and senior management teams in 24 countries, to empirically and directly assess the relationship between culture and leadership traits and behaviors. We provide research evidence that the investigated CEOs from the United States, Austria, Germany, China, and Taiwan (with the exception of Russian CEOs and Polish middle managers) were generally positively evaluated by their direct staff in regard to: inspirational, visionary, integrity, and performance-oriented leadership behaviors (constituents of charismatic leadership), team-oriented behavior, and participative leadership style. Empirical findings under the GLOBE project, Phase 3 revealed that the charismatic leadership behavior of CEOs has a huge influence on top management teams’ (TMTs) dedication to organizational goals, and is the most predictive of all leadership behaviors for TMT commitment to organizations. The analyzed research findings indicate that CEOs in Russia and Polish middle managers display strong similarities. They tend to behave in less charismatic, team-oriented, and participative ways than CEOs in the remaining countries.

This paper considers the important role of developmental programs designed and run specifically for women, not as the only training offer recommended for them but as an addition to other leadership courses. The author examines first companies engagement in the idea of promoting women leadership and their strategies of achieving tangible effects in this matter. Based on a survey, the author checks whether female employees in Poland are provided with women‑dedicated leadership programs and whether the newest scien‑ tific findings on the benefits of women‑dedicated programs are considered by companies when they plan development paths for women‑employees. At the end the author inves‑ tigates on attractiveness of the idea of women‑dedicated leadership programs for female employees in Poland and what kind of benefits they would expect from participating in such programs.

The aim of this paper is to bring together some of the foundational and recent literature interlinking corporate governance and the leadership role of the board of directors. Strategic leadership is widely assumed to be a responsibility that defaults to the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs). However, in practice, what most CEOs do is strategic management rather than strategic leadership. While strategic management does share key aspects of strategic leadership CEOs are expected to prioritize the managerial side over the leadership side. This is just one of the situations in which the boardroom assumes the leadership role. This paper discusses how boards of directors conduct the process of strategic leadership in their organizations. In recent years there has been an increasing interest among scholars to understand how boards strategize from a behavioral point of view. This growing interest has resulted in the development of various typologies regarding boards’ involvement in the strategic leadership processes.

Współcześnie konieczne staje się przedefiniowanie roli dyrektora i wyposażenie go w niezbędne kompetencje, czyniące go menadżerem oświaty, którego zadaniem jest efektywne zarządzanie szkołą na trudnym rynku oświatowym.
In the era of education system reform, the role and functions of the school’s head teacher have changed from reconstructive to independent and creative decision making. The Head teacher received a wide range of rights, and at the same time the scope of their responsibilities was significantly increased, not only before the educational authorities, but above all towards the local environment and students. Nowadays, it is necessary to redefine the role of the head teacher and equip them with necessary competences, making him the manager of education whose task is to effectively manage the school in a difficult educational market.

W świecie zorganizowanym XXI wieku ważną rolę w skutecznym oddziaływaniu na podwładnych (współpracowników) odgrywają kompetencje przywódcze. Drogą do wielozakresowego analizowania relacji przywódczych jest identyfikowanie czynników odpowiedzialnych za kształtowanie umiejętności wywierania wpływu na innych w różnego typu organizacjach i uwarunkowaniach. Podstawowe pytania brzmią: Skąd w człowieku takie wyróżniające cechy i umiejętności? Jaki zestaw kompetencji przywódczych sprawdza się w różnych warunkach? Na ile można modyfikować zachowania ludzi na różnym poziomie rozwoju oraz kształtować dorosłych przez świadomy dobór odpowiednich metod w edukacji uniwersyteckiej i szkoleniu pracowników. W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki badań poszukujących cech przywódczych, programy nauczania przywództwa oraz przeanalizowano możliwości i ograniczenia kształtowania przywódców organizacyjnych występujące w Polsce w drugiej dekadzie XXI wieku.
In the organized world of the XXI century, an important role in the successful impact on subordinates (employees) is played by leadership competences. The way to study the multiple range analysis of leadership relationship is to identify the factors responsible for the development of skills in influencing others in different organizations and conditions. The basic questions are: Where inside the man do such distinguishing features and skills exist? What set of leadership competences is adequate in a variety of conditions? How can modify the behavior of people at different levels of development and the adult form by the conscious choice of the appropriate methods in university education and training of employees be modified? The article presents the results of research looking for leadership qualities, leadership curricula and examines the possibilities and limitations of shaping organizational leaders found in Poland in the second decade of the XXI century.

The article presents the essence and importance of leadership, with particular reference to the specificity of military leadership. The purpose of the article is to indicate the validity of certain leadership qualities in the civil and military context, as well as the interaction between them. The research was carried out on civilian organization employees who were to assess the validity of selected leadership traits. The most important features and social competencies necessary for effective leadership and attitudes, described in the literature as worthy of imitation, are presented. The applied research methods (the analysis of literature and surveys in civilian organizations) allowed for indicating the distinguished leadership traits and some similarities between the characteristics of a military and civilian leader.

The purpose of this research is to look into strategic leadership styles (transformational, transactional, and charismatic) in terms of different leadership styles and see how they affect employee performance along with mediation effect of knowledge sharing in municipality of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Ajman. A good leader motivates employees, and motivated employees not only improve their job performance and commitment within the organisation, but also go above and beyond the job requirements, boosting the organization's overall performance and profitability. Three key independent variables: transformational leadership, transactional leadership, and charismatic leadership, as well as a dependent variable: employee performance, were constructed in a theoretical framework. This study employed quantitative research. A 5-point Likert Scale scored a structured survey questionnaire. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Ajman municipal employees provided the data. Survey participants numbered 335. This study analyzed data with Smart-PLS. Structural equation modeling tested path analysis and assumptions. The study found that strategic leadership styles affect employee performance through information sharing. The study found that strategic municipal leaders can drastically improve staff performance. Although some researchers have concluded that transactional and charismatic leadership alone may not be the best in all situations, a blend of all three leadership styles - transactional, charismatic, and transformational - would yield better results. Transformational leadership was the best strategic leadership style. Further research was recommended to discover municipal employee performance factors.
Celem tego opracowania jest przyjrzenie się strategicznym stylom przywództwa (transformacyjnemu, transakcyjnemu i charyzmatycznemu) pod kątem różnych stylów przywództwa i sprawdzenie, jak wpływają one na wydajność pracowników wraz z pośredniczącym efektem dzielenia się wiedzą w samorządach Dubaju, Abu Zabi i Ajmanu. Dobry lider motywuje pracowników, a zmotywowani pracownicy nie tylko poprawiają swoje wyniki pracy i zaangażowanie w organizacji, ale także wykraczają poza wymagania pracy, zwiększając ogólną wydajność i rentowność organizacji. Trzy kluczowe zmienne niezależne: przywództwo transformacyjne, przywództwo transakcyjne i przywództwo charyzmatyczne, a także zmienna zależna: wydajność pracowników, zostały skonstruowane w ramach teoretycznych. W badaniu wykorzystano badania ilościowe. W ustrukturyzowanym kwestionariuszu ankiety zastosowano 5-punktową skalę Likerta. Dane uzyskano od pracowników miejskich Dubaju, Abu Zabi i Adżmanu. Liczba uczestników ankiety wyniosła 335. W badaniu przeanalizowano dane za pomocą Smart-PLS. Modelowanie równań strukturalnych przetestowało analizę ścieżek i założenia. Badanie wykazało, że strategiczne style przywództwa wpływają na wydajność pracowników poprzez dzielenie się informacjami. Badanie wykazało, że strategiczni liderzy miejscy mogą radykalnie poprawić wydajność pracowników. Chociaż niektórzy badacze doszli do wniosku, że samo przywództwo transakcyjne i charyzmatyczne może nie być najlepsze we wszystkich sytuacjach, połączenie wszystkich trzech stylów przywództwa - transakcyjnego, charyzmatycznego i transformacyjnego - przyniosłoby lepsze wyniki. Przywództwo transformacyjne było najlepszym strategicznym stylem przywództwa. Zalecono dalsze badania w celu odkrycia czynników wpływających na wydajność pracowników samorządowych.

Introduction: Transformational leadership is based on the trust and respect that employees feel about their leader and therefore are motivated to do much more than is expected from them. Transformational Leaders have a vision for the future, seek change and are challenged from their followers. Purpose: The exploration of the implementation of transformational leadership in nursing. Results: Since the early 1990s, transformational leadership started to be supported by nursing scholars. The first article advocating transformational leadership as a choice strategy for nursing, published in 1988. Later, it was stressed that modern health care requires new visions and enhanced models of nursing practice and the catalyst for that is transformative leadership and gradually, it was argued that successful leaders are the transformational leaders. In the 21th century it was obvious that transformational leadership was important for nursing from the growing number of published articles on the topic. Transformational leadership is affecting positively the nurses’ job satisfaction and contributes on reducing exhaustion, anxiety of nurses. Conclusions: The positive impact of transformational leaders on work performance and nurses satisfaction is evident, nevertheless much more effort has to be paid by nursing managers for increasing its use in the nursing departments of the hospitals.

The article describes the term “stress”, how stress is measured and how conclusions for an effective and efficient training can be drawn to increase officer cadets’ leadership skills and competences based on stress measurements. With the so-called Clinical Stress Assessment method, which was invented by a prestigious stress-researcher, Austrian and Czech officer cadets have been examined for the last years by taking a capillary blood sample of 100 microliters from the fingertip. The blood sample is analyzed within three minutes by special equipment and recorded by special software. After interpretation of the discovered data, adequate proposals how to organize a proper education and training can be made. In this paper, there are presented especially those findings which are related to leadership skills and competences; for example, how the sequences of education and training should be organized and which circumstances prospective, future military leaders should take into consideration in order to increase their personal and their future subordinates’ performance. At the end of the article the reader will know – because of understanding the term “stress” – that a “stressless” education and training will not create any improvement of skills and competences; without any mental and/or physical burdens there is no effect.

Political leadership during the period of freedom movement in Africa had a dominant role. They coordinated and led the independence struggle against colonialism. The case of independence became the common goal of all Africans. Political leaders had full sup port of their people, among well known charismatic leaders Kwame Nkrumah can be mentioned. After the gradual success of common vision, which was independence, the view of previous freedom leaders was diversified on the process of continent's unity; they were divided into three different groups. The Casablanca group favoured a strong political union of independent Africa; the Monrovia group supported functional non-political cooperation and the Brazzaville group which stood for a gradual concept of African Unity starting with regional cooperation. Eventually all the leaders of three groups agreed to form the Organization of African Unity. Most of the freedom leaders started to build their power, based on a single party system, planning to stay in power for lifelong. These leaders became dictators and corrupted. Transfer of state power was based on violence. Some are still in office from the period of independence. Others died naturally exercising power while most of them were overthrown by military coupe or forced to leave office. They failed in terms of nation building. Conflict over power sharing started at the early stage of independence and still continues. The legacy of wrong exercise of power had resulted in ethnic conflict, political, economic and social crisis in Africa.

Implementacja idei zrównoważonego rozwoju staje się dla współczesnych przedsiębiorstw jednym z kluczowych wyzwań. Odpowiedzią na to wyzwanie jest rozwój koncepcji zrównoważonego przywództwa. Celem niniejszego opracowania jest udzielenie odpowiedzi na pytanie, czym jest zrównoważone przywództwo oraz na jakich poziomach może być badane. Na potrzeby realizacji przyjętego celu dokonano analizy literatury przedmiotu przy zastosowaniu metody narracyjnego przeglądu literatury. Badania literaturowe doprowadziły do wniosku, że zrównoważone przywództwo jest odpowiedzią na potrzebę wdrażania idei zrównoważonego rozwoju i stanowi system, którego poszczególne elementy dążą do realizacji wspólnego celu, jakim jest zrównoważony rozwój. Koncepcję zrównoważonego przywództwa można analizować na trzech poziomach: jednostki, organizacji oraz otoczenia.
Implementation of the concept of sustainability is becoming one of the key challenges for modern companies. The answer to this challenge is the development of the concept of sustainable leadership. The purpose of this study is to answer the question of what sustainable leadership is and at what levels it can be studied. For the purpose of the adopted goal, an analysis of the literature on the subject was carried out using the method of narrative literature review. The literature research led to the conclusion that sustainable leadership is a response to the need to implement the idea of sustainable development, and is a system whose individual elements strive to achieve the common goal of sustainable development. The concept of sustainable leadership can be analyzed at three levels: the level of the individual, the organization, and the environment.

The research goal was to analyse an employee’s position from the top management’s point of view, defined in two dimensions: employees’ potential and their effectiveness. The article uses a brief literature review and qualitative research based on interviews with management. The interviews were conducted in two time intervals – the first part in 2018 and the second part in 2019. In the research, top management consisted of a Chief Executive Officer, an Agile Coach and a Human Resources Business Partner. The people in the above positions were responsible for retaining employees, creating possible development paths, and the utilization of human potential. Additional research purposes were to find out how the employee’s position has changed over the years, and how much the leader’s position in the team has influenced the changes. The study covered the situation of 34 programmers and IT analysts who worked in 8 technology teams. The assessment of the situation before and after twelve months showed real consequences of the management’s decision-making process and provided recommendations for future research.
