Author raises the issue of specificity of educational leadership trying to show that such specificity has to be based on central value of educational organizations. In educational context such central value should be individual human development. Paper describes different ways of understanding leadership and educational leadership present in literature and gives some postulates how educational leadership can be defi ned, proposing to call such type of leadership a developmental leadership. A description of such type of leadership and conditions of its introduction to education are the main aims of the paper.

We live in the twenty-first century, which witnessed by far the most intensive marketing of politics, and traditional approaches (The Great Man Theory, ‘situational’, ‘relational’) to the process of emergence of political leadership are simply not enough. Cooperation between leaders and their followers is determined by cultural and social context, specific political situation of the time, patterns of social behavior. Development of new information technologies and dissemination of the means of mass communication have introduced another factor to the analyzed process, forced by civilisational changes. These changes initiated the processes shaping the emergence of a fourth approach to political leadership, which we may call ‘reactive’. Reactivity is an active process of management of the changing image of the leader, responding to the evolving social preferences, and subsequently disseminated through the media.

The question of whether a single leader type will emerge as one of the possible effects of globalization has required research on the subject. In the context of culture, Hofsthede, Brodbeck et al, and GLOBE studies, revealing that different leadership characteristics come to the fore in different geographies with cultural influences, refuting the claim that a uniform leader model will emerge with globalization. Among the aforementioned studies, GLOBE studies went a little further and claimed that leadership is actually a function of culture. Leadership research in the Balkans, which is a tangle of cultures with its complex ethnic structure, is relatively less included in the literature. The main purpose of this article is; Despite this problem arising from the Cold War period, how the leadership styles are in the Balkans is to examine the relationship between Balkan style leadership and culture. At the same time, the article has a secondary purpose that questions whether the claim that “there is not a single Balkans” is also valid for leadership practices when it comes to culture. Literature review and observation method were used in the research. The observations mainly include the observations made in Albania between the years of 2012-2015. On the other hand, the literature review is based on the data obtained primarily from local studies about each country in the Balkans. The results obtained emphasize that when it comes to leadership in the Balkan countries, the first thing is that political leadership is understood, which draws attention to autocratic leadership from the socialist administration period. In the context of business leadership, it shows that autocratic leadership was effective in the 10-year transition period after the Cold War, and that transformational leadership began to come to the fore in the 2000s at varying speed and rate according to institutions and countries. As a result of the investigations, the article shows that quite similar leadership characteristics stand out for the Balkans, the culture of democracy has not yet fully settled in this context, the avoidance of uncertainty in social codes, the autocratic administration still has an important place as a reflection of cultural dimensions such as the distance of power, on the other hand, willingness to change with new generations, more democratic leadership expectations increase and transformational leadership comes to the fore with the change in geography. Although the article has limitations in terms of containing observations specific to one country, it supports the claims in terms of including the local research results of the countries and is considered to contribute to the literature for the Balkans where limited research is available.

This paper presents the results of qualitative research conducted by the method of in-depth interviews with Polish leaders. A very diversified group of high-level and considerably successful leaders were selected and interviewed. The typology (profiles) of the leaders, their constraints and strength are revealed and discussed. The leaders give much importance to their struggle for autonomy and overcoming constraints. They are familiar with the different models of “optimal leadership.” Their profiles and sources of leadership strength are examined within the framework of the “bounded leadership theory.”

This review study is concerned with an overview of current international research related to the to- pic: leadership in education1. The topic’s importance and popularity is the underlying motivation for writing this study as it can be considered one of the keystones for successful educational institutions and policies. On the other hand, criticism is often raised due to the quality of empirical evidence which should support and verify the measures implemented into practice. The theoretical analysis includes studies published in magazines included in the WOS (Web of Science) database in the last 5 years (work was completed in October 2019) that are associated with keywords “educational/school/ teacher leadership”. The 75 studies were found and later analysed with regards to different points of view: geographical origin, thematic perspective and several methodological aspects. The results are discussed in the study.

Purpose: The main purpose of this study is to present leadership limitations that influence leadership effectiveness and examine if it is possible to overcome these limitations. Methodology: The study presents the results of literature analyses and the findings of the recent research studies on leadership. It also refers to literature items that might be helpful in analyzing the leadership limitations. Conclusions: The study indicates that some leadership behaviors that fall into a particular category are useful in understanding and reflecting on their limitations, while other leaders’ actions enable them to overcome those limitations or use them to support leadership effectiveness. Research limitations: This is a theoretical and conceptual study. It formulates propositions to further empirical research studies. Originality: The study analyzes a number of behaviors from different leadership theories. These behaviors fall into four meta-categories: situational, transformational, authentic and boundary spanning. The study also provides information about leadership styles that are useful in understanding and overcoming leadership limitations.

Agile leadership requires self-reflection. The human image of the supervisors responsible in the com- pany is characterised by appreciation, openness and respect. Leaders create framework conditions and take care of the individual development of individual employees. Their know-how and mindset should be aligned with the agile leadership style. Dealing with the essential principles (change, trust, decisions, iterations, feedback, failure culture, communication) in everyday life does not happen as a matter of course. Agile leadership often fails because of its own self-efficacy and self-functionality. The belief in one‘s own influence to make a difference in difficult situations (self-efficacy) strengthens self -confidence. In complementary self-functionality, each team member works towards a higher goal. Team success is the focus. It requires a high level of self-leadership. Employees with this competence act independently and as part of the team towards the visions and goals of the organisation. Only when self-efficacy and self-leadership are successfully developed among managers and employees can agile leadership be successfully implemented in the company.

The purpose of this article is to draw the reader’s attention to the research problems of military leadership that are identified at the lowest levels of command in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland. The authors presented cases of soldiers who present various attitudes in the context of understanding the role of a military leader, as well as ambiguously perceived competencies in this area, including their self-assessment. The problem of a systemic approach to the formation of leadership competencies in military education units is addressed, and the dangers of low levels of commander traits, aptitudes, and competencies are highlighted. The final conclusions inspire the reader to gain knowledge and undertake interdisciplinary research on military leadership.

The results from the Polish parliamentary elections in 2015 showed a significant change in the behaviour of the electorate. Two completely new political groups have entered the Sejm. For the very first time in the history of the Third Polish Republic, a new balance of power emerged, which excluded the left-wing parties from political discourse without assigning them a parliamentary mandate [Dudek 2016: 687]. In the face of this turn of events, it is difficult to maintain the thesis concerning the "freezing" of the circulation of political elites in the current political system. The Modern political party was established on 31 May 2015 [Kim jesteśmy?] while the Kukiz'15 political movement formed only three months before the parliamentary elections [O stowarzyszeniu – władze krajowe i okręgowe]. These two political organisations were able to overcome the electoral threshold and achieve unexpected success in such a short period of time and without an extensive party structure or significant financial base. The mobilisation of the electorate took place outside the parliamentary structures. In view of this, is the phenomenon of 'over-parlamentisation' [Żukiewicz 2011: 343] involved in the creation of political leaders still valid? Is it to be believed, that in the face of ever more frequent grassroots social initiatives, the real political struggle still only takes place within the parties and political leaders who are not traditional participants of political party games but who appear as activists associated with other areas of public life?On the other hand, the changes that take place in the electorate do not directly translate into the reorganisation of party structures. The tendency to block political advancement by the already established political elite still persists. Traditional political parties are afraid of this new situation, which can significantly harm their interests. Impeding these changes may seem to be an obvious reaction, inscribed in the rules of political struggle [Żukiewicz 2011: 345]. However, the constant increase in tension between the demands and expectations of the electorate and the offer of these parties may indicate that the current balance of power will not last for long. Upcoming transformations cannot be avoided however attempts should be made to control them. For this reason, leaders of traditional political parties should decide on utilising such a mechanism for selecting leaders as it would not exclude them from the political space while at the same time be a guarantor of power.Being part of the 21st century, we have all witnessed and participated in the intensification of globalisation processes as well as the generational change and the popularisation of ideas related to the information society. The significant increase in the importance of the phenomenon of mediatisation of politics causes a reversal of the hierarchy of attributes and predispositions which are desired by society [Schulz 2004: 87-101]. The image of political leaders on social media begins to outweigh their actual leadership skills. There is a danger that the new mechanism responsible for creating party structures will indeed facilitate the circulation of the elite, but unfortunately at the expense of the quality of potential leaders. That is why it is so important that the transformation process of the political power system proceeds as designed, and not in a chaotic manner, succumbing to bottom-up trends.In addition, external factors of an international nature make it difficult to conduct research on the latest political phenomena. The changes currently occurring in society require new research perspectives and approaches. Traditional theories concerning the political system and the understanding of party structure may turn out to be insufficient.

The discourse presented in this article is focused on the subjects of leadership and management, as well as relationships between these two. This discourse requires the inclusion of multicontextual changes of the neoliberal world which make leaders face new requirements. The most important requirements are: the increasing role of leadership, management for leadership and need of proactivity. The arguments put forward in this article show that there is a need to generate new attitudes that will go beyond the boundaries determined by partial paradigms so that they are relevant to the dynamics of changes in the contemporary world.

The armed forces of NATO, the foundation of military security in the collective and individual sense, have been, for years, constituting the determinants shaping their interoperability and effectiveness. Such actions are taken with varying intensity by all members also in terms of military leadership. The scope and comprehensiveness of these actions mainly oscillate around the perception of leadership in the context of the tool for shaping interpersonal relationships. The goal of the organizational context, which less attention is put to, is the proper section and training of the leaders, who are not accidentally appointed, but were chosen on the basis of a thoughtful process. Therefore, in the area of leadership considered an important organizational phenomenon, a variety of transformations are carried out, which are intended to improve leadership and the units implementing them, so it is used for the benefit of the armed forces. The Polish armed forces have also undertaken such actions. Their scope is to be based on a broad analysis of leadership in conducted in 2018. However, ensuring the optimization of further action requires the recognition of the most significant leadership transformations that have been implemented by the Alliance’sleading armed forces and are a guarantor of substantially higher quality of military leadership. These transformations are described and discussed in this paper.

In this study authors mainly emphasize the importance of the question of “Can authentic leaders transform organizations easier or more effectively when compared to other leaders?” As the fire and intensity of self-interest seem to burn all around us, we search, so often in vain, to find leaders we can have “faith” in. We all suspect that we are being duped as a reaction to the turbulent times we live in and a response to the public's widespread disenchantment with politicians and businesspeople (Goffee & Jones, 2005). We are not uncertain about our leaders’ talents, but about their trustworthiness. Due to this feeling of uncertainty; the authentic leaders who tend to exhibit confidence, hope, optimism, resiliency and a dedication to developing leadership capabilities in others come on the scene at organizations. Open or transparent about who they are, the authentic leaders are striving to link personal values to actions and individual values to organizational values (Shamir & Eilam, 2005). By this linkage, authentic leaders are expected to “transform” organizations into legitimate arena of moral striving and human fulfillment.

This article examines the trend across the world to move towards centrally controlled education systems driven by a political desire that students might attain and schools be judged by a narrow range of measurable attainment targets with policing by inspections. It argues that this has emphasized management rather than leadership and that there is a need to refocus on more aspirational achievement aims for young people and schools. It defines and argues for integrity in both leadership and management and makes the case for the signifi cance of the way in which leaders lead. A transactional approach leads to the erosion of trust and transformational leaders in contrast build this up. The article explains why trust is so important and explains how trust can be developed in and by leaders and mangers. It finishes by outlining the challenge of developing leaders and managers of high-trust school cultures

The maritime industry is multinational and multicultural. Understanding which leadership skills that are effective in such environments is necessary to be a successful leader. Work experience in multinational companies will give a different insight into which management practices are seen as desirable for future maritime leaders within a global industry. According to trait theories there are properties that can be trained and some that are linked to personality, which are not easily trainable. Since leadership skills are a combination of both trainable and not so trainable skills, it is necessary to understand what types of skills are seen as endorsed, and not endorsed by the future maritime managers. The present paper shows results from a questionnaire study using the GLOBE Leadership questionnaire where 52 master of maritime management students (i.e. maritime managers of the future) rates 112 different leadership skills according to which degree these skills support outstanding leadership or not. The results show which leadership skills the maritime leaders of the future believe will support outstanding leadership. Contrasts between participant with and without work experience form multinational corporations will be shown – giving an indication of how the perception of leadership is changed through work experience in a multi-cultural context. The result will give an insight in how future management practices should be. Knowledge of the universally endorsed maritime leadership skills can be used as a guideline in the recruitment process for maritime managers.

The ability to manage other people’s behavior has always intrigued philosophers. The fate of each human being and each community depend – in a way that is not easy to measure – on other people. Who are these “other people”? Why can they determine the direction of our thoughts and actions? What relation takes place between them, those who manage, and us, who are willing to be obedient? Which part of our social subjectivity are we willing to give up for the sake of these “others”? Such and many more important questions mark what may seem as an undefined framework of a never-ending, inconclusive discourse. However, once we decide to take an active part in this discourse, we need to take a responsibility to frame the subject matter, at the very least in a conventional manner, remaining aware that when each argument and each statement are equally relevant in terms of their content value, none is worth attention since they all are deprived of their explanatory value.

The paper presents concepts of personalistic leadership and servant leadership as an alternative to the technocratic management. The most important issue in the two concepts of leadership is the empowerment, that is, the capacity of building the staff (competence, knowledge, motivation). Servant leadership is an American concept of leadership very similar to the concept of personalistic leadership. The differences arise from how to give reasons – servant leadership has inspired by religion (Christianity), whereas the concept of personalistic leadership is based on the personalism and phenomenology.

Purpose: To compare two transformational leadership instruments, Bass’s Full Range Leadership Model and its instrument Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire with the Transformational Leadership Scale proposed by Rafferty and Griffin (2004), using empirical evidence from a single sample. Methodology: The sample includes participants from different levels of the Estonian Defence Forces’ military hierarchy (N = 2570). The structures of the Transformational Leadership Scale and Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire were examined with exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, while other methods were used to compare the two instruments. Findings: The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire is statistically significantly better at predicting outcome variables like satisfaction with leader, effectiveness, and extra effort; however, the Transformational Leadership Scale did predict outcome variables at a sufficient level. Research & Practical Limitations/Implications: The current research contributes to the validation of the Transformational Leadership Scale proposed by Rafferty and Griffin (2004). The results indicated that the Transformational Leadership Scale is a valuable research tool to study transformational leadership; however, some subscales require further development. Moreover, we may conclude that there is a difference between subsamples – e.g. between commanders and conscripts – that describe outcome variables using the Transformational Leadership Scale as a transformational leadership instrument. Originality/value: There is very limited research that compares different transformational leadership instruments.

Celem artykułu jest prezentacja i omówienie najważniejszych kierunków poszukiwań etycznych podstaw przywództwa. Analizowane są: sformułowany w latach 70. ubiegłego wieku model przywództwa transformacyjnego, nawiązujący do idei dyskursu model przywództwa transpozycyjnego, koncepcje kładące nacisk na upodmiotowienie jednostek i propozycje nawiązujące do tradycji personalizmu chrześcijańskiego. Omówione koncepcje oferują odmienne kryteria etycznego przywództwa, a także strategie ich identyfikacji. Z analizy wynika, że poszukiwania są wyznaczane przez kluczowe wartości naszego kręgu cywilizacyjnego, takie jak demokracja, obywatelska podmiotowość, rozwój i autonomia jednostki. Celem artykułu jest także ilustracja, w jaki sposób koncepcje spoza obszaru badań nad przywództwem – np. rozwijane na gruncie zarządzania publicznego – mogą być wykorzystane w celu konkretyzacji postulatów modeli etycznego przywództwa.
The aim of this paper is to present and discuss the most influential concepts of ethical leadership. The article consecutively analyses the transforming leadership model as formulated in the 1970s, transpositional leadership based on the notion of discourse, and fi nally concepts focused on the empowerment of individuals and ideas associated with the tradition of Christian personalism. These models not only off er different criteria of ethical leadership, but likewise strategies for their identifi cation. The analysis demonstrates that the search for different criteria of ethical leadership is closely tied to the founding values of Western civilization, such as democracy, civil empowerment, autonomy and development of individuals. The paper also aims to illustrate how ideas from outside the area of leadership studies, e.g. developments in the domain of public management, can be used to specify the postulates of ethical leadership models.

In this article the features characteristic of the notion of competence, as well as the reasons for difficulty in defining the notion of school principal’s leadership competences, and a complex and multi-aspect structure of these competences are discussed. Simultaneously, the need for research over school principal’s leadership competences and over education of those occupying managerial positions at school, including their educational needs in the field of educational leadership and development of their leadership competences is considered. This article is based on the theoretical thesis formulated by Pablo Cardona and Pilar Garcia-Lombardia (2008) concerning leadership competences of managerial staff, as well as development of these competences, and assumption that high competences of educational leaders constitute one of the conditions of running a school successfully, in terms of school principals’ performing their own tasks and supporting teachers’ development and learning. The competence approach to the analysis of school principals’ work and responsibility connected with it makes it possible to demonstrate specific expectations concerning school principals’ education, professional development and work at school.

The author of the article focuses on the technological development of Japan and assessing her international position in that field. He argues that Japan could achieve a position of technological leader in the world thanks to an adroit and supporting policy of the state and a devotion of enterprises toward the technological development. But in current, more complicated domestic and external economic circumstances, the leading position of the country starts to be threatened. Because of growing competition from new rivals, mainly Asian, old leaders should adjust to the new situation. This means that in some fields of technology also Japan will lose her advantages.

Celem artykułu jest próba wskazania na możliwości analizowania kategorii przywództwa w kontekście edukacji dorosłych. Zaproponowane zostały trzy wątki interpretacyjne. Pierwszy to analiza współwystępujących współcześnie definicji przywództwa. Drugi wątek to rozpoznanie zasadniczych założeń koncepcji przywództwa w edukacji oraz przywództwa edukacyjnego. Trzecie zagadnienie to problem władzy, jako elementu relacji między liderami a osobami, na rzecz których podejmują oni swoje działania. Autorka analizuje kategorię przywództwa w kontekście budowania relacji między liderami a uczącymi się dorosłymi. Przywództwo ukazane zostało zarówno w jego organizacyjnym wymiarze, jak i w perspektywie realizacji oferty edukacyjnej dla uczących się dorosłych i projektowania środowiska sprzyjającego uczeniu się.
The objective of the article is to indicate the possibility of analysing the category of leadership in terms of adult education. Three aspects of interpretation have been suggested. The first one is the analysis of currently accepted definitions of leadership. The second one is recognition of fundamental assumptions of the concept of leadership in education and educational leadership. The third issue concerns power as an element of relations between leaders and those for who they undertake their activities. The author analyses leadership in context of building relations between leaders and learning adults. Leadership has been presented in terms of organizing as well as implementing an educational offer for adults and creating favourable learning environment.

The paper presents considerations on teachers’ educational leadership. What forms the basis of this consideration is the thesis that contemporary educational processes are more and more often reduced to management strategies in which teachers are treated as clerks and functionaries of the educational system. However, according to the author, the teaching profession primarily comes down to the personal dimension and consists in perceiving teachers as professionals who are ethically committed to facilitating students’ development. The paper presents problems connected with teachers’ educational leadership in the personal dimension based on the responsibility rule. What has been presented includes the essence of educational leadership, the notion, models and standards of this leadership as well as the selected teaching skills determining personal and responsible educational leadership
Artykuł prezentuje rozważania o przywództwie edukacyjnym nauczyciela. Podstawą rozważań jest teza, że we współczesnej rzeczywistości procesy edukacyjne sprowadzane są coraz częściej do strategii zarządzania a nauczyciel traktowany jest jako urzędnik/funkcjonariusz systemu oświaty. Praca nauczyciela, zdaniem autorki, ma jednak przede wszystkim wymiar osobowy i jest pochodną rozumienia nauczyciela jako profesjonalisty, etycznie zaangażowanego we wspieranie rozwoju ucznia. W artykule przedstawiono problematykę przywództwa nauczycielskiego w wymiarze osobowym opartym na zasadzie odpowiedzialności. Przedstawiono istotę przywództwa, pojęcie, model i standardy przywództwa edukacyjnego. In modern society, the use of technology occurs constantly, and it is already impossible to imagine human life without it. The spread and implementation of artificial intelligence in social processes form a specific interaction between this technology and society. Achieving only positive results from using intelligent software and systems requires awareness and responsibility from people when interacting with smart machines. The managerial responsibility of the leader when using artificial intelligence is an important topic of modern management. The article examines the role of artificial intelligence in the fourth industrial revolution era and considers statistical forecasts regarding its future impact on various spheres of human activity. The author analyzed the features of leadership in modern conditions of technology development and substantiated the specific role of a leader who uses the functions of artificial intelligence in management activities. The author proposed a hierarchical scheme of interaction of the participants of the production process in the organization, which arises when using intelligent systems to achieve the set goals. The main result of the work is the development of a scheme that reveals the need for the formation of a structure in the interaction of the organizational system with the technological potential of artificial intelligence. Using the proposed scheme by practitioners-managers will make it possible to use the latest technological developments as efficiently and safely as possible.

The contribution brings an analysis of transformational leadership among Slovak secondary education teachers in comparison with ideas of student teachers. The research sample consists of secondary education teachers (N = 142) and student teachers (N = 142). Data are obtained from the Slovak version of the LPI/Leadership Practices Inventory. Results indicate statistically significant differences in three dimensions favouring students against teachers: Model the Way, Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act. Slovak students consider transformational leadership practices essential as Slovak teachers apply them in their daily practice. Results are discussed mainly from the perspective of ontogenetic and educational practice.

Purpose: The focus of this article is on the axiology of leadership, which is a description of the guiding values and characteristics of a leader, including innovation, growth, skilful direction-setting, listening and attentiveness, proactive empowerment, accountability, judgment, and persuasion. Design/methodology/approach: The article uses the method of comparative-descriptive analysis. In this article, I characterize the different types of leadership including its strategic, activating, operational and forcing form. Findings: I refer to the scientific theory of authorities in the field of organizational management and leadership coaching by Owen, Krupp, Schoemaker, as well as Kaplan and Kaiser; for comparison, I also include Sieraczkiewicz’s leadership typology. Unconsciously, however, the leader’s qualities/attributes, when abused, can become the greatest obstacle and disadvantage, which not only thwarts all the efforts of the team, but also makes the leader-head of that team ineffective. Research limitations/implications: The text takes up issues related to the problem of development and self-development in the field of business. Practical implications: The paper concerns the development of an individual, leader and his team in the professional and private sphere. Text will be interest broadly understood business. Social implications: Unconsciously, however, the leader’s qualities/attributes, when abused, can become the greatest obstacle and disadvantage, which not only thwarts all the efforts of the team, but also makes the leader-head of that team ineffective. Originality/value: Originality of the article is confirmed by the description of basic features/values that every contemporary leader should cultivate. Characteristic feature of the contemporary leader is his versatility and the related axiological pluralism.

Opis:
Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie założeń różnych teorii przywództwa oraz charakterystyka kompetencji przywódczych w kontekście organizacji wiedzochłonnych (knowledge‑intensive organisations, KIOs). Punkt wyjścia prowadzonych rozważań stanowiły studia krajowej i zagranicznej literatury, ukazujące ewolucję teorii przywództwa w podziale na teorie tradycyjne i współczesne oraz wskazujące na specyfikę organizacji wiedzochłonnych. Przeprowadzone analizy wykazały, że przywództwo w organizacjach wiedzochłonnych różni się od przywództwa w organizacjach tradycyjnych. Egzemplifikację prowadzonych rozważań stanowił polski oddział międzynarodowego koncernu. Wyniki zrealizowanych w nim badań jakościowych wykazały, że w tego rodzaju organizacjach przywództwo zawiera przede wszystkim elementy charakterystyczne dla przywództwa transformacyjnego, strategicznego i autentycznego.
The aim of the article is to present assumptions of different leadership theories and competences of leaders in a knowledge intensive context. The study of domestic and foreign publications was the starting point which enabled the author to illustrate the evolution of leadership theories by dividing these theories into traditional and modern ones, and to describe the nature of knowledge‑intensive organizations. The analyses confirmed that leadership in knowledge‑intensive organizations differs from leadership in traditional organizations. A Polish subsidiary of an international company served as an exemplification of the main considerations of the article. The empirical evidence of qualitative research confirmed that in knowledge‑intensive organizations leadership consists in elements characteristic for transformational, strategic and authentic leadership.

W dobie dynamicznego rozwoju i szybko zmieniających się warunków, którym muszą sprostać współczesne organizacje oraz ich pracownicy, kluczową kompetencją staje się elastyczność. W niektórych teoriach przywództwa podkreśla się także znaczenie posiadania przez liderów szerokiego zakresu możliwych do wykazania zachowań oraz umiejętności ich adekwatnego wyboru w różnorodnych sytuacjach. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest dokonanie analizy jednej z tych teorii, jaką jest koncepcja przywództwa wszechstronnego. Autor artykułu podjął próbę umiejscowienia tej koncepcji pośród innych modeli teoretycznych kładących nacisk na elastyczność przywódcy oraz przeanalizowania potencjalnego wkładu, jaki koncepcja ta może mieć dla lepszego zrozumienia efektywności działań lidera. Dodatkowo, w artykule zaproponowano obiecujące kierunki dalszych badań z wykorzystaniem opisywanego podejścia.
In the time of very dynamic development and rapidly changing conditions that need to be faced by contemporary organizations and employees, flexibility is becoming a key characteristic. Several theoretical approaches to effective leadership emphasize the importance of leader’s broad repertoire of possible behaviors combined with the ability to utilize them adequately in diverse situations. The goal of this article is to conduct an analysis of one of such approaches, namely the versatile leadership model. The author of the article made an attempt to situate this model among other theoretical approaches which stress the importance of leader’s flexibility. Additionally a possible contribution of the versatile leadership model assumptions to advancement of understanding of leader’s effectiveness is scrutinized. The article concludes with highlighting possible avenues for further research with the use of the described model.

Phenomenology of management seeks to grasp the essence of manager's work – its core is the analysis of leadership. Phenomenology of leadership is an approach that makes the idea “to be someone – to do something” becomes the guiding principle of of management. Max Scheler’s “moral flight” phenomenology is one of the most important inspiration in the analysis of leadership. His anthropology reveals that being a man is in fact a continuing task that is impossible to take, and the result depends on the man himself. Scheler’s phenomenology is a good way to discover the essence of leadership (eidos) in the process of culture change. This article presents a case study: Ricardo Semler’s inner transformation, who might overcome the technocratic attitude and make the “moral flight”. The main inspiration for him was a metaphor “builder of cathedrals”. As a result of his own inner transformation has become a “builder of cathedrals”, such as a leader, who serves – it was a condition for conversion of others in the “cathedral builders”. As a result of the Semler's “moral flight” their company was transformed in “cathedral builders” guild – community of work.

One of the most important aspects of academic life is cooperation between researchers from different centres. Different levels of experience, approaches and paradigms enable researchers to observe the complete image of categories. The Political Leadership Section of the Polish Political Science Association has been formed during the Second Nationwide Congress of Political Science in Poznań (2012). The Association’s Board has established it on February 7, 2013. Since that day the section integrates scholars from different universities interested in issues of political leadership, it supports development of this research field in Poland, it collects published monographs, editions and papers relevant to this field and it coordinates development of teaching standards in education on political leadership. The section’s activity and its role in Polish academic community proves that this topic has become a significant aspect of social sciences in the country.

Leadership is a concept that stands in the limelight of both scientists and business professionals. In reviewing the literature on leadership many aspects emerge. A relatively new concept that many scientists have been focusing on in recent years is positive leadership. The purpose of this article is to present positive leadership concept and how it is expressed in Polish organizations.

Any attempts to answer questions regarding the scope, essence and definition of leadership are certainly one of the most important discussion areas when it comes to the entire manage- ment science. As it was already indicated when analyzing the organization itself, many cru- cial aspects pertinent to the operation and functioning of every group or business depend on the efficiency and skill of the person managing in question or the individual units within its wi- der, complex structure. From a scientific point of view, but also taking into account quite a practical stance, a complete understanding of this concept comes under the area of numerous and ongoing studies. As in the case of certain concepts already discussed in the previous parts of this stu- dy, this definition – and any further treatises on the typology and specific styles implemented by lea- ders – can be considered either from a sociological and economic or purely sociological perspective. The understanding of the notion of leadership across management science takes into account many aspects and it continues to evolve under the influence of research, business development, markets as well as larger changes in the surrounding environment.

The politics in its nature is a process of making decisions. This approach emphasis on political leader who is responsible for defining a situation; formulation a plan of action and mobilize followers. Especially in Africa's context those problems are topical. Furthermore, a mosaic of cultures and religions imply wide deliberation on political leadership. It suggests to find that kind of theoretical concepts which are appropriate to analyses this vast subject. The article analyses three aspects. Firstly, focuses on the relation between political science and study on political leadership. Secondly, the attention is paid on leaders and followers motives for political participation. Finally, author defined political leadership and presents the most suitable theoretical concepts to analyses this topic in Africa's context. This sort of narrative is dictated by problems of diversity of Africa. The most useful theories showed answers for questions: is political leadership always sensible and affective; what kind of elements should be examines in analyses of political leadership; how features of person and a specificity of political system influence on political leaders; which cultures favour political leadership. All this problems are solved in this article. The conclusions allowed to formulate the basis elements for empirical examine.

The aim of the article is to define the political leadership of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and present the attributes and factors, which primarily influenced the effectiveness of his leadership in the Turkish society. Erdoğan has a strong and unquestioned position in his own party as well as on the Turkish political scene. For a significant part of the society, he is an irreplaceable person and the best leader in the history of the country. Factors which have a major influence on his success are of social, economic and cultural nature. He is a leader, who can easily turn a crisis to his own advantage and convince his followers to support his own arguments. Erdoğan’s activities, which were firmly focused on economic issues, health care reforms and Turkey’s integration with the European Union, enabled him to gain the support of even this part of the society whose values are distant from the ones he accepts. At the same time, he represents a confrontational attitude towards political opponents and often expresses his reluctance towards them.
Celem artykułu jest zdefiniowanie przywództwa politycznego Recepa Tayyipa Erdoğana, przedstawienie jego atrybutów oraz czynników, które w głównej mierze wpłynęły na skuteczność przywództwa w tureckim społeczeństwie. Erdoğan posiada silną i niekwestionowaną pozycję we własnej partii i na tureckiej scenie politycznej. Dla znacznej części społeczeństwa jest postacią niezastąpioną i najlepszym przywódcą w historii kraju. Czynniki, które w głównej mierze wpływają na sukces jego przywództwa mają charakter społeczny, ekonomiczny oraz kulturowy. Jest to przywódca, który z łatwością potrafi przekształcić kryzys w korzyść dla siebie i przekonać zwolenników do własnych racji. Działania Erdoğana mocno skoncentrowane na kwestiach gospodarczych, reformach służby zdrowia i integracji Turcji z Unią Europejską pozwoliły mu zdobyć poparcie nawet tej części społeczeństwa, której wartości odbiegają od przyjętych przez niego wartości. Jednocześnie przejawia on konfrontacyjną postawę wobec oponentów politycznych i wyraża niechętny stosunek wobec nich

Implementation of the new concepts of public management, such as new public management resulted in an adaptation of administration management methods from business. This includes, among others, leadership. The latest public administration theory, i.e. new public service, emphasises ethical aspects of management. This is the reason, among others, for application of normative leadership theories, such as transformational leadership, in public service, despite the fact that leader’s charisma is its central point. It seems that the concept of authentic leadership could be more suited to public management. The characteristics of the authentic leader – relational transparency, internalised moral perspective, sustainable proceedings and self-awareness, mostly reflect its normative character. This article is an attempt to apply the theory of authentic leadership in public administration.
Wprowadzanie w życie nowych koncepcji zarządzania publicznego, takich jak new public management spowodowało adaptację z biznesu metod kierowania administracją. Dotyczy to między innymi przywództwa. W najnowszej teorii administracji publicznej, czyli new public service, akcentuje się z kolei etyczne aspekty zarządzania. Stąd między innymi wynika zastosowanie w służbie publicznej normatywnych teorii przywództwa, takich jak przywództwo transformacyjne, mimo że centralnym jej punktem jest charyzma lidera. Wydaje się, że bardziej dopasowana do zarządzania publicznego może być koncepcja autentycznego przywództwa. Komponenty zachowania autentycznego lidera – transparentność relacyjna, zinternalizowana perspektywa moralna, zrównoważone procedowanie oraz samoświadomość, w większości oddają jej normatywny charakter. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi próbę zastosowania teorii autentycznego przywództwa w administracji publicznej.

Purpose: Sixty-five HR general managers representing companies from a variety of industries took part in the research that we conducted between April and October 2013. They had identified leadership development as the most significant factor in the growth of the top firms in Poland’s economy. We have conducted in-depth interviews to understand the perception of the leadership concept. We have found that they tend to focus on the following dimensions of leadership: conveying a vision, inspiring, being charismatic, being credible, being able to manage others, and having good interpersonal skills. Research limitations and implications: The main limitation of the research is that it does not allow for generalization of findings on perceived dimensionality of leadership on larger population of HR Executives. Our findings imply that leadership development will soon be a strong priority among HR teams of 500 largest companies, but several dimensions are not present in their description of leadership. Originality/value: Our paper makes three contributions to the literature. We have developed a managerial attention view of the firm by surveying senior HR executives. CEOs, CFOs, and top management teams tend to be subject of studies in this theoretical tradition more often than HR executives, Another contribution is the use of mixed methods that is rather rare yet offering vast opportunities for triangulation and knowledge building in the discipline. Our third contribution is that we applied a standard scale of the multidimensional leadership concept.

W podsumowaniu zaprezentowano wnioski dotyczące implementacji tej koncepcji w przedsiębiorstwach.
The chapter analyzes the issue of leadership and its role in the Lean Management concept. The focus was mainly on the resources of national literature and international. Leadership has been characterized in the aspect of individual tasks that support the implementation of the Lean Management concept. Lean Leadership is a new approach that co-creates leadership with the Lean concept that contributes to better final results. The summary presents conclusions regarding the implementation of this concept in enterprises.

Within the context of increasingly digital work, it appeared interesting to look at how military leaders and their leadership style will have to adapt to remain “up-to-speed” with current challenges. It is qualitative research based on interviews with military and civilian experts. Four interviews have been conducted, but there would be the potential to interview many more experts and look deeper into the matter. Within the context of digitalised military leadership, the importance of communication and mutual trust has been underscored by the experts. They agreed that leaders nowadays must embrace digital developments and include them in their leadership styles. The civilian world can learn from the military when it comes to leadership approaches, which is happening at the time of publication of this article with practical examples (senior military leaders assigned to lead the pandemic task force in some countries). Overall, the outcome of the research is that a relevant and resilient military leadership style in the 21st century resembles the elements of the situational leadership style developed by Hersey-Blanchard.

The definition of leadership and the role of leadership in generating and maintaining effective organizational change has been widely studied for a long time. Leadership is often defined in terms of the influence, emotional manipulation, classical top-down approach. We must learn to build leadership concept on a foundation of ethical reasoning, rather than pretending that leadership and ethics are separate. The search for leadership and the search for ethics amount to the same thing, and both have to be connected to our concept of corporate identity. As a practical example of such an attitude the typology of different leadership paradigms is analysed. We suggest here that organic paradigm, or co-leadership, is the most adaptive to the challenges of corporate social responsibility transformation. Good leadership, in moral and technical sense, means participative leadership which can create conditions within organizations for employee and stakeholder empowerment. urpose: Empirical research on entrepreneurship in organizations has brought disparate and often contradictory evidence related to the impact of leadership on creativity in organizations. The purpose of this paper is to explore and discuss the impact of different leadership styles on creativity, with the view to formulating an integrated conceptual model that links creative novelty and creative practicality with leadership. Methodology: The author applied the methodology of meta-theoretical review. In accordance with the principles of theoretical bricolage, a new conceptual model was built on the basis of the multidimensional creativity theory and the leadership theory. In her analysis, the author took into account leadership styles that have already been subject to research; each of them was mapped in the two-dimensional space of organizational creativity. Findings: In order to fully understand the reasons for differences in organizational creativity, the drivers of divergences in the space of creative novelty and creative practicality need to be clarified. Greater knowledge about the impact of leadership styles on the structure and configuration of organizational creativity is necessary. In this paper, the author provides a theoretical framework that illustrates manners in which leadership influences organizational creativity. The model clarifies the role that leadership plays in shaping a unique configuration of organizational creativity, and consequently in ensuring the necessary internal adaptation of an organization. Originality: The value of this research lies in the situational interpretation of various leadership styles in the context of their impact on organizational creativity. The analysis goes beyond the conventional discussion about leadership and creativity, focused on establishing whether a given leadership style proves beneficial or not for organizational creativity. The paper identifies particular effects that several key leadership styles have on organizational creativity; they are depicted in a new theoretical framework
