The work presents results of the investigations of effect of intensive cooling of alloy AC-AlSi7Mg with alloy additions on microstructure and mechanical properties of the obtained casts. The experimental casts were made in ceramic molds preliminarily heated to 180°C, into which AC-AlSi7Mg with alloy additions was poured. Within implementation of the research, a comparison was made of the microstructure and mechanical properties of the casts obtained in ceramic molds cooled at ambient temperature and the ones intensively cooled in a cooling liquid. Kinetics and dynamics thermal effects recorded by the TDA method were compared. Metallographic tests were performed with the use of optical microscope and strength properties of the obtained casts were examined: UTS, Elongation and HB hardness.

The results of studies concerning friction welding of Weight Heavy Alloy (WHA) with AlMg3 alloy are presented. The friction welding of density 17.5 Mg/m3 with aluminum alloy showed that it is possible to reach the joints with the strength exceeding the yield strength of wrought AlMg3 alloy. This strength looks to be promising from point of view of condition which have to be fulfilled in case of armor subcaliber ammunition, where WHA rods play the role Kinetic Energy Penetrators and aluminum is used for projectile ballistic cup.

319 alloy has been selected for the study in the present work due to its wide use in many applications. 319 alloy is used in automotive and aerospace industry for the complicated castings which must comply high strength requirements. In practice, the most common elements with the modifying effect are strontium, sodium and antimony. The addition of these elements leads to a change in the shape of eutectic silicon, resulting in an increase of the mechanical characteristics and the microstructure. An experimental program has been undertaken to explore the effect of antimony on chosen mechanical properties and the microstructure of investigated alloy. An analysis of the results of these experimental works is made in order to determine an optimum Sb (Al-10% Sb) addition to produce material exhibiting desirable properties. Experimental works have showed that the addition of the Al-10% Sb results in similar or even higher mechanical properties than the conventional 319 alloy. Based on the carried out experiments the best combination of mechanical properties has been achieved by the addition of 2 000 ppm Al-10% Sb.

This article presents the results of the low-cycle fatigue tests of AW-5059 Alustar alloy. Gas metallic welding in argon arc shield was used. Metallographic analysis of bonds showed a proper structural construction MIG welded 5059 aluminum alloy. The low-cycle fatigue tests were carried out in the air and artificial seawater (3.5% water solution NaCl), with stable amplitude of stress value. The stresses were changed in the symmetric cycle (the stress ratio was R = -1) with constant strain rate of 5mm/min and the frequencies oscillating between 0.08-0.2 Hz. During the tests the following parameters was observed: number of cycles until the specimen's destruction, upper and lower extreme values of force and strain for the selected cycles, duration-time of the test and frequency. Analysis of specimens fracture surfaces was performed with scanning electron microscope (SEM) Philips XL30. In case of the specimens exposed in 3,5% water solution NaCl the fatigue durability is lower than the durability of specimens tested in the air. The article depicts the changes in total strain amplitude Iac [mm] depending on number of cycles [N] obtained in the tests with ia=const and the low-cycle fatigue resistance for the welded Alustar alloy. In the case of shape memory alloys (SMA), a form to which a material is expected to return during heating can be repeatedly programmed, whereas other related properties can be individually adjusted. It was found that most producers of commercial assortment based on SMA as well as traders are seldom willing to lift the veil of secrecy on this topic. In the context of own experimental studies, the authors made a reference to the technical aspects of some post-treatments of a Ni-Ti alloy with a view to further practical application, e.g. the design and construction of machinery and structures with the involvement of SMA. For these purposes, high-temperature shape setting trials were carried out using various parameters of heat treatment with no secrecy surrounding the procedures applied. Some of the tested parameters proved effective, whereas some were less useful. Following the activation of the reverse transformation by heating, a somewhat different behaviour was observed, and simultaneously one of the crucial material temperatures was determined. The paper as a whole is reported from a specifically engineering/technical point of view, which is continuously emphasized in the content of the presented article.

In this study, AZ91 Magnesium alloy is produced by cold chamber high pressure die casting (HPDC) method. Different combinations of the cold chamber HPDC process parameters were selected as; in-mold pressure values of 1000 bar and 1200 bar, the gate speed of 30 m/s and 45 m/s, the casting temperatures of 640°C and 680°C. In addition, the test samples were produced by conventional casting method. Tensile test, hardness test, dry sliding wear test and microstructure analysis of samples were performed. The mechanical properties of the samples produced by the cold chamber HPDC and the conventional casting method were compared. Using these parameters; the casting temperature 680°C, in-mold pressure 1000 bar and the gate speed 30 m/s, the highest tensile strength and the hardness value were obtained. Since the cooling rate in the conventional casting method is slower than that of the cold chamber HPDC method, high mechanical properties are obtained by the formation of a fine-grained structure in the cold chamber HPDC method. In dry sliding wear tests, it was observed that there was a decrease in friction coefficient and less material loss with the increase of hardness values of the sample produced by the cold chamber HPDC method.

The Faculty of Production Technology and Management is often asked by companies with a request to solve a specific technical task. One of these tasks was the analysis of aluminum alloy worsened machinability when the rods from this alloy exhibited against assumption significantly worse (longer) chips during machining. The alloy was complaint and, of course, it created economic damage. Obviously, the company was interested in the causes of this alloy behavior change that could possibly generate future complaints procedures to defend itself better, or to avoid mistakes in the production of the material. At the faculty analysis that could contribute to identifying the cause of the worsened machinability were done.

The research included a comparison of the following properties of manufactured elements: microstructure, phase composition and surface roughness. The test results clearly showed that these properties are different when using different method of casting. These changes allows the use of prepared elements in medicine.

In this study, a molybdenum alloy with dispersed high-entropy particles was fabricated using the powder metallurgy method. The high-entropy powder, composed of Nb, Ta, V, W, and Zr elements with a same atomic fraction, was prepared via high-energy ball milling. Using this powder, an ideal core-shell powder, composed of high-entropy powder as core and Mo powder as shell, was synthesized via the milling and reduction processes. These processes enabled the realization of an ideal microstructure with the high-entropy phase uniformly dispersed in the Mo matrix. The sintered body was successfully fabricated via uniaxial compaction followed by pressureless sintering. The sintered body was analyzed by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope, and the high-entropy phase is uniformly dispersed in the Mo matrix.

The paper presents research of metallic glass based on a Mg72Zn24Ca4 alloy. Metallic glass was prepared using induction melting and further injection on a spinning copper wheel. The X-ray diffractometer and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) were used to investigate the phase transformation of the amorphous ribbon. The heat released in the crystallization process, during isothermal annealing, based on the differential scanning calorimeter investigation, was determined to be 166.18 Jg-1. The effect of isothermal annealing temperature on the kinetics of the amorphous alloy crystallization process using differential scanning calorimeter was investigated. For this purpose, two isothermal annealing temperatures were selected. The incubation time decreases as the temperature of the isothermal annealing increases from 300 to 252 seconds. The same relationship is visible in the case of duration of the phase transformation, which also decreases as the temperature of the isothermal annealing increases from 360 to 228 seconds. The obtained results show a significant influence of isothermal annealing temperature on the degree of phase transformation.

The paper presents an analysis of selected aluminum alloys as structural materials used in production of aircraft parts as well as specification of technological parameters of Al alloys extrusion on a backward press with their effect on mechanical properties, microstructure and quality of the final product. Upsetting tests with backward extrusion complex cross-sectional profile tests were conducted on aluminum alloys 7075, 2024, 2099. Based on the results, specifications of forging in the form of unit stress - effective strain relations were determined using logarithmic deformation index, allowing proper choice of extrusion parameters. The range of temperatures for hot plastic treatment along with range of extrusion rate for the analyzed thin-walled aircraft profiles were determined. Tests were also conducted on the microstructure of Al alloys in the initial state as well as after the extrusion process had been completed. It has been proved that the proper choice of parameters in the case of a specific profile extruded from Aluminum alloys 2024, 7075, 2099, allows the manufacturing of products of complex crosssections and the quality required in aerospace industry. This has been demonstrated on the example of complex cross-sectional profiles using elements of varied wall thickness.
W pracy przedstawiono analizę wybranych stopów aluminium jako materiałów konstrukcyjnych z przeznaczeniem na elementy obiektów latających wraz z określeniem technologicznych parametrów wyciskania tych stopów na prasie przeciwbieżnej oraz ich wpływu na właściwości mechaniczne, mikrostrukturę i jakość finalnego wyrobu. Przedstawiono wyniki testów spęczania i wyciskania przeciwbieżnego profili o złożonym kształcie przekroju poprzecznego z wykorzystaniem stopów aluminium 7075, 2024, 2099. W oparciu o uzyskane wyniki wyznaczono charakterystyki spęczania jako wykresy zależności średnich nacisków jednostkowych od logarytmicznego wskaźnika odkształcenia, umożliwiające adekwatny dobór parametrów wyciskania. Określono przedział optymalnych temperatur przeróbki plastycznej na gorąco i prędkości wyciskania dla analizowanych cienkościennych profili lotniczych. Wykonano również badania mikrostruktury stopów Al w stanie wyjściowym i po wyciskaniu. Wykazano, że adekwatny dobór parametrów procesu do danego typu profilu wyciskanego ze stopów 2024, 7075, 2099, pozwala na uzyskanie wyrobów o złożonym kształcie przekroju poprzecznego i o wymaganych własnościach oraz wysokiej jakości pożądanej w lotnictwie, co pokazano na przykładzie profili o złożonym kształcie przekroju poprzecznego z elementami o zróżnicowanej grubości ścianki.

Nickel based alloys, especially nickel based superalloys have gained the advantage over other alloys in the field of high temperature applications, and thus become irreplaceable at high temperature creep and aggressive corrosion environments, such as jet engines and steam turbines. However, the wear resistance of these alloys is insufficient at high temperatures. This work describes a microstructure of a new cast alloy. The microstructure consists of γ matrix strengthened by γ’ fine precipitates (dendrites) improving the high temperature strength and of Chromium Cr7C3 primary carbides (in interdendritic eutectics) which are designed to improve wear resistance as well as the high temperature strength.
Stopy na osnowie niklu, a w szczególności superstopy na osnowie niklu zyskały przewagę w stosunku do innych stopów metali na polu zastosowań w wysokiej temperaturze. Są niezastąpione w warunkach pełzania wysokotemperaturowego, a także agresywnym środowisku korozyjnym silników odrzutowych czy tez turbin parowych. Jednakże odporność na ścieranie tych stopów jest niewystarczalna do zastosowania tych materiałów w wysokiej temperaturze i warunkach ścierania. W niniejszej pracy opisano mikrostrukturę nowego stopu. Składa się ona z osnowy γ umocnionej fazą γ’ (dendryty) - zwiększającą wytrzymałość wysokotemperaturową, a także z pierwotnych węglików chromu Cr7C3 (w eutektykach międzydentrytycznych) - mających na celu zwiększyć zarówno odporność na ścieranie jak i wytrzymałość wysokotemperaturową.

The paper presents the cellular automaton (CA) model for tracking the development of dendritic structure in non-equilibrium solidification conditions of binary alloy. Thermal, diffusion and surface phenomena have been included in the mathematical description of solidification. The methodology for calculating growth velocity of the liquid-solid interface based on solute balance, considering the distribution of the alloy component in the neighborhood of moving interface has been proposed. The influence of solidification front curvature on the equilibrium temperature was determined by applying the Gibbs Thomson approach. Solute and heat transfer equations were solved using the finite difference method assuming periodic boundary conditions and Newton cooling boundary condition at the edges of the system. The solutal field in the calculation domain was obtained separately for solid and liquid phase. Numerical simulations were carried out for the Al-4 wt.% Cu alloy at two cooling rates 15 K/s and 50 K/s. Microstructure images generated on the basis of calculations were compared with actual structures of castings. It was found that the results of the calculations are agreement in qualitative terms with the results of experimental research. The developed model can reproduce many morphological features of the dendritic structure and in particular: generating dendritic front and primary arms, creating, extension and coarsening of secondary branches, interface inhibition, branch fusion, considering the coupled motion and growth interaction of crystals.

The article will be focused on analysis of properties of aluminum alloy for the casting of type Al-Mg. As an experimental material was used aluminum alloy EN AC 51200, supplied in a cast state without a heat treatment. It was produced by the continuous casting method. Experiments deal with microstructural material analysis, fractographic analysis, mechanical and fatigue tests. The microstructure of the testing sample was examined using an optical microscope Neophot 32. Fatigue properties of aluminum alloy was tested by three-point bending cyclic loading. The fracture surface of the testing sample was examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), where sample was observed on various stages of the fatigue process, its characteristics and differences of fracture surfaces.

The aim of this study was to assess the quality of the passive layer formed on the surface of a CoCr alloy used on dentures to see the effect on resistance to pitting corrosion and electrochemical parameters. Studies were performed using on potentiodynamic tests and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The passive layer was formed spontaneously and by electrochemical method on samples after casting and after simulation porcelain firing on metal. Samples of the passivation electrochemical characterized by the improvement in corrosion resistance. Prolonging the passivation time from one to 24 hours and increasing the potential value from 0 to 200 mV improved the quality of the passive layer and all characteristics of electrochemical parameters.

The paper presents the results of studies on the effect of the AlSi17Cu5 alloy overheating to a temperature of 920°C and modification with phosphorus (CuP10) on the resulting mechanical (HB, Rm, R0.2) and plastic (A5 and Z) properties. It has been shown that, so-called, "time-thermal treatment" (TTT) of an alloy in the liquid state, consisting in overheating the metal to about 250°C above Tliq., holding at this temperature by 30 minutes improves the mechanical properties. It has also been found that overheating of alloy above Tliq. enhances the process of modification, resulting in the formation of fine-grain structure. The primary silicon crystals uniformly distributed in the eutectic and characteristics of the \alfa(Al) solution supersaturated with alloying elements present in the starting alloy composition (Cu, Fe) provide not only an increase of strength at ambient temperature but also at elevated temperature (250°C).

Opis:
The paper discusses the effect of microstructure on the fatigue strength of AlSi7Mg casting alloy refined conventionally with hexachloroethane without modifying and modified with TiB and Na. Castings made of both alloy variants were subjected to T6 heat treatment. It turned out that the applied refining secured satisfactory compactness of the material. In view of absence of gas and shrinkage porosity in the castings, short cracks nucleated on largest silicon precipitates and largest intermetallic phase precipitations as these were the locations where stress concentrations reached their highest values. Comprehensive modification of the alloy resulted in reduction of the value of SDAS parameter characterizing α(Al) phase dendrites, a decrease of the distance between silicone precipitates in the eutectic λE, and a decrease of the maximum size of silicone precipitates lmaxSi. The ultimate effect of these changes was an increase of the fatigue strength.

The paper presents the research results of the solenoid housing made of the Zn4Al1Cu alloy that was destroyed as a result of corrosion. Surface of the tested part showed macroscopically the features typical for white corrosion, and the resulting corrosion changes led to a disturbance of the alloy cohesion. The research performed have shown that the tested solenoid valve has intergranular corrosion as a reaction of the environment containing road salt. The corrosion was initiated in the areas of the alfa phase existence appearing in the eutectic areas which propagated over dendritic areas of the alloy. Initiation of the corrosion followed as a result of the galvanic effect of the alfa phase reach in aluminium showing higher electrochemical potential, in contact with the eta phase reach in zinc. The impact of the phase reach in lead present in the microstructure on the corrosion processes run was not found.

This paper presents positron lifetime studies of the subsurface region of AK12 aluminium alloy and Al$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$-particle-reinforced AK12 aluminium alloy composite after sliding against steel in the pin-on-disc machine. The defect depth profile detected in the AK12 alloy extended up to 300μm but for the composite AK12 the range of this profile was significantly shortened to less than 90μm. The positron lifetime dependence on depth evidences a steep gradient of defect concentration near the surface. The subsurface zones have been also examined using scanning electron microscopy.

Electron beam welding, called electron welding consists in penetrating the elements being welded with heat obtained from the elements’ bombardment in vacuum with concentrated electron beam of high energy. Concentration of the electron beam of high kinetic energy in a very small space results in generating the heat of high concentration causing melting of material in high depth. During the metal melting the electron beam makes a narrow weld of little heat affected zone (HAZ). This paper presents the test results on selection of parameters of electron beam welding of 12 mm thickness sheets of AlMg3 aluminum alloy. The beam electron melting through was carried out in vacuum by means of the welding machine WS-15 KW/100 KV. Before melting, the sheets were degreased in tetrachloroethylene and oxides were removed with 15% solution Na2Co3. The influence of electron beam melting through of sheets on their mechanical properties was tested as well as resistance to stress corrosion cracking and resistance to corrosion in fast seawater flow (10 m/s). The slow strain rate stress corrosion tests in the air and artificial seawater were performed. It was found that electron beam melting through of the AlMg3 alloy does not decrease the mechanical properties in comparison to the native material. The crack during the static tension test had ductile character and proceeded in the native material. AlMg3 alloy melting with electron beam shows a very good stress corrosion resistance.

Magnetic properties of a Ni50Mn35.5In14.5 Heusler ribbon were studied by ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) in the temperature range of 335–100 K. In the temperature region of 265–170 K, the FMR signal disappeared, in spite of the fact that this region comprised the main crystal transformation temperatures: Ms, Mf, As, Af. In the austenite crystal state, a weak antiferromagnetic interaction was observed, whereas ferromagnetism was detected in the low temperature martensitic state.

Among alloys of non-ferrous metals, aluminum alloys have found the widest application in foundry industry as a competitive alternative of ferroalloys. One from methods to improve mechanical properties of aluminum alloys is a heat treatment consisting in heating a material to solutioning temperature, keeping the material in such temperature, and subsequent rapid cooling and natural or artificial ageing. In the paper are presented test results concerning effects of the T6 heat treatment, comprising solutioning and artificial ageing, on hardness and impact strength of the AlZn10Si7MgCu alloy poured into metal moulds. Temperature ranges of solutioning and ageing treatments were selected on the base of recorded curves from the ATD method. Basing on three-stage plan of the investigations with four variables one determined range of the heat treatment parameters, what is a condition of obtainment of required HB hardness of the investigated alloy. Further investigations shall concern correction of obtained results with respect to the HB hardness and impact strength, obtained for selected castings of machinery components.

Opis:
Cyclic loading of superelastic NiTi shape memory alloy (SMA) causes forward and reverse austenite–martensіte transfor-mations, and also increases the volume of stabilized martensite. This appears in the change of stress-strain curve form, the decrease of dissipation energy, and increase of residual strain, that is, named transformation ratcheting. In real structures, the SMA components in most cases are under the action of variable amplitude loading. Therefore, it is obvious that the loading history will influence the functional fatigue. In the present work, the effect of stress ratio on the functional properties of superelastic NiTi shape memory alloy under variable amplitude loading sequence with two blocks was investigated. The studies were carried out under the uniaxial tension of cy-lindrical specimens under load-full unload and load-part unload. The change of residual strain, strain range, dissipation, and cumulative dissipation energy density of NiTi alloy related to load sequences are discussed. Under both stress ratios, the residual strain in NiTi alloy is increased depending on the number of loading cycles on the high loading block that is similar to the tests at constant stress or strain amplitude. An unusual effect of NiTi alloy residual strain reduction with the number cycles is found at a lower block loading. There was revealed the effect of residual strain reduction of NiTi alloy on the number of loading cycles on the lower amplitude block. The amount of decrement of the residual strain during a low loading block is approximately equal to the reversible part of the residual strain due to the stabilized martensite. The decrease of the residual strain during the low loading block is approximately equal to the reversible part of residual strain due to the stabilized martensite. A good correlation of the effective Young’s modulus for both load blocks with residual strain, which is a measure of the volume of irreversible martensite, is observed.

Self-hardening aluminium alloys represent a new and interesting group of aluminium alloys. They have the advantage that they do not need to be heat treated, which is an important advantage that contributes to a significant reduction in production costs of some components and in the amount of energy used. The present paper deals with the possibility to replace the most used heat treatable AlSi7Mg0.3 cast alloys with a self-hardened AlZn10Si8Mg cast alloy. In this study, microstructural characterization of tensile and fatigue-tested samples has been performed to reveal if this replacement is possible. The results of fatigue tests show that AlSi7Mg0.3 alloy after T6 heat treatment and self-hardened AlZn10Si8Mg has comparable values of fatigue properties. The self-hardening alloy has slightly lower strength, ductility, and hardness.

In the dissertation it has been shown, that so called „time-thermal treatment” (TTT) of the alloy in liquid state, as overheating the metal with around 250°C above the Tliq. and detaining it in this temperature for around 30 minutes, improves the mechanical properties (HB, Rm, R0,2). It was ascertained, that overheating the AlSi17Cu5Mg alloy aids the modification, resulting with microcrystalline structure. Uniform arrangement of the Si primeval crystals in the warp, and α(Al) solution type, supersaturated with alloying elements present in the base content (Cu, Mg) assures not only increased durability in the ambient temperature, but also at elevated temperature (250°C), what is an advantage, especially due to the use in car industry.

The paper addresses results of fatigue testing of light metal alloys used in the automotive as well as aerospace and aviation industries, among others. The material subject to testing comprised hot-worked rods made of the AZ31 alloy, the Ti-6Al-4V two-phase titanium alloy and the 2017A (T451) aluminium alloy. Both low- and high-cycle fatigue tests were conducted at room temperature on the cycle asymmetry ratio of R=-1. The low-cycle fatigue tests were performed using the MTS-810 machine on two levels of total strain, i.e.Δεc= 1.0% and 1.2%. The high-cycle fatigue tests, on the other hand, were performed using a machine from VEB Werkstoffprufmaschinen-Leipzig under conditions of rotary bending. Based on the results thus obtained, one could develop fatigue life characteristics of the materials examined (expressed as the number of cycles until failure of sample Nf) as well as characteristics of cyclic material strain σa=f(N) under the conditions of low-cycle fatigue testing. The Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy was found to be characterised by the highest value of fatigue life Nf, both in lowand high-cycle tests. The lowest fatigue life, on the other hand, was established for the aluminium alloys examined. Under the high-cycle fatigue tests, the life of the 2017A aluminium and the AZ31 magnesium alloy studied was determined by the value of stress amplitude σa. With the stress exceeding 150 MPa, it was the aluminium alloy which displayed higher fatigue life, whereas the magnesium alloy proved better on lower stress.

This article deals with the fatigue properties of newly used AlZn10Si8Mg aluminium alloy where the main aim was to determine the fatigue strength and compare it with the fatigue strength of AlSi7Mg0.3 secondary aluminium alloys which is used in the automotive industry for cyclically loaded components. AlZn10Si8Mg aluminium alloy, also called UNIFONT 90, is self-hardening (without heat treatments), which contributes to economic efficiency. This is one of the main reasons why is compared, and may be an alternative replacement for AlSi7Mg0.3 alloy which is heat treated to achieve required mechanical properties. The experiment results show that the fatigue properties of AlZn10Si8Mg alloy are comparable, if not better, than AlSi7Mg0.3 alloy. Fatigue properties of AlZn10Si8Mg alloy are achieved after seven days of natural ageing, immediately after casting and achieving value of fatigue strength is caused by structural components formed during solidification of the melt.

AlCrFeCuCoNi high entropy particles were alloyed on Ti-6Al-4V surface using Plasma transferred arc (PTA) process. PTA alloyed surfaces were investigated for their phase formation, microhardness improvement and wear behaviour. The various wear mechanism and their corresponding surface roughness were studied. The results revealed that the dual phase of BCC and FCC microstructure along with some intermetallic compounds were grown in the alloyed region through the PTA technique and good metallurgical bonding of the alloyed region with the base material were achieved. The PTA alloyed region exhibited a hardness of 718 HV0.2 which is 2.2 times higher than the hardness of base material. The PTA alloyed samples showed higher wear resistance due to the solid solution strengthening as the HEA has high entropy of mixing that leads to the reduction of free energy of the alloyed region. It exhibited better interconnection of the coated material and superior metallurgical bonding to the base material. Frictional heat produced during the wear test has promoted the formation of FeO, Cr2O3, CuO, NiO and Al2O3 oxide film on the PTA alloyed sample. These oxide films act as a barrier between two mating surfaces and improve the tribo performance of the PTA alloyed sample.

Grain refining and modification are common foundry practice for improving properties of cast Al-Si alloys. In general, these types of treatments provide better fluidity, decreased porosity, higher yield strength and ductility. However, in practice, there are still some discrepancies on the reproducibility of the results from grain refining and effect of the refiner’s additions. Several factors include the fading effect of grain refinement and modifiers, inhomogeneous dendritic structure and non-uniform eutectic modification. In this study, standard ALCAN test was used by considering Taguchi’s experimental design techniques to evaluate grain refinement and modification efficiency. The effects of five casting parameters on the grain size have been investigated for A357 casting alloy. The results showed that the addition of the grain refiner was the most effective factor on the grain size. It was found that holding time, casting temperature, alloy type and modification with Sr were less effective over grain refinement.

This paper studied the effect of laser welding technology on dissimilar metal welding joints of TA15 titanium alloy and Inconel 718 nickel-based alloy. The research results indicate that the laser welding of TA15 titanium alloy and Inconel 718 nickel-based alloy directly was difficult to form well, which due to the intermetallic compounds caused the joint brittle. When the pure Cu foil was used as the filling layer, the quality of the welding joints can be improved effectively. The experimental results also indicate that there were brittle intermetallic-compounds in the laser welding seam, and the laser power had an important influence on the performance and mechanical properties of the dissimilar metal joint. The maximum average tensile strength of the welding joint of 2300 W was increased to 252.32 MPa. Scanning electron microscope(SEM) results show that the fracture morphology was river pattern, a typical morphological of cleavage fracture, and the mode was brittle fracture.

The present study, aims to investigate the effect of minor Zr and Nb alloying on soft magnetic and electrical properties of Fe86 (Zrx Nb1-x )7B6 Cu1 (x=1, 0.75, 0.5, 0.25) alloys. The investigated alloys were prepared through the melt spinning process. Within the examined compositional range (Nb up to 5.25 at%, respectively), the soft magnetic properties and electrical resistivity of the alloys continuously increase with increasing Nb content. However increasing the Nb content further decreases such properties. We could confirm the influence of ratio of Zr and Nb on grain growth and crystallization fraction during crystallization by using the soft magnetic properties and electrical properties.

The results of experimental study of mechanical properties degradation of creep resistant Ni-base alloy are presented. The material studied was subjected to long-term influence of high pressure hydrogen atmosphere at temperature 750K and 850K. The mechanical properties of specimens taken at different distance from inner surface of thick wall tube were evaluated. The results of mechanical testing showed distinct influence of the temperature on mechanical properties of Ni creep resistant alloy. Moreover, the mechanical properties of studied alloy depend on the location of the specimen with respect to the dissociated ammonia source i.e. distance from the inner surface of the chamber. The results of mechanical testing show that the higher the distance from inner surface of the chamber the better mechanical properties of studied Ni base super-alloy.

Chromium- and nickel based alloys offer good mechanical properties, while keeping them also in highly corrosive environment. In addition, the introduction of the nitrogen at the level of 0.3 to 0.5% to the alloy structure, increases the plastic deformation ability of the cast alloy. This observation is fully confirmed by the results of the plastic deformation tests (performed on Gleeble), which are presented in this paper. The laboratory samples made of NiCrN wrought alloy and processed by die forging, demonstrated the significant increase of the yield stress and plastic deformation ability for the applied deformation degrees. The experiments showed about twofold increase of the resistance to cyclic loading for the forged products, when comparing it to the initial alloy state after casting. The developed technology (validated by numerical simulations) has been used to manufacture the workpiece for the propeller shaft. The results of the deformation performance for the element subjected to plastic processing have been compared with the material in its cast state.

In the paper, results of investigations regarding temperature and strain rate effects on hot-deformed Cu-3Ti alloy microstructure are presented. Evaluation of the alloy microstructure was performed with the use of a Gleeble HDS-V40 thermal-mechanical simulator on samples subjected to uniaxial hot compression within 700 to 900ºC and at the strain rate of 0.1, 1.0 or 10.0 s-1 until 70% (1.2) strain. It was found that within the analyzed temperature and strain rate ranges, the alloy deformation led to partial or complete recrystallization of its structure and to multiple refinement of the initial grains. The recrystallization level and the average diameter of recrystallized grains increase with growing temperature and strain rate. It was shown that entirely recrystallized, fine-grained alloy structure could be obtained following deformation at the strain rate of min 10.0 s-1 and the temperature of 800°C or higher.

The main reason of a cavitational destruction is the mechanical action of cavitation pulses onto the material’s surface. The course of cavitation destruction process is very complex and depends on the physicochemical and structural features of a material. A resistance to cavitation destruction of the material increases with the increase of its mechanical strength, fatigue resistance as well as hardness. Nevertheless, the effect of structural features on the material’s cavitational resistance has been not fully clarified. In the present paper, the cavitation destruction of ZnAl4 as cast alloy was investigated on three laboratory stands: vibration, jet-impact and flow stands. The destruction mechanism of ZnAl4 as cast alloy subjected to cavitational erosion using various laboratory stands is shown in the present paper.

The Mg-RE alloys are attractive, constructional materials, especially for aircraft and automotive industry, thanks to combination of low density, good mechanical properties, also at elevated temperature, and good castability and machinability. Present paper contains results of fatigue resistance test carried out on Elektron 21 magnesium alloy, followed by microstructural and fractographical investigation of material after test. The as-cast material has been heat treated according to two different procedures. The fatigue resistance test has been conducted with 106 cycles of uniaxial, sine wave form stress between 9 MPa and 90 MPa. Fractures of specimens, which ruptured during the test, have been investigated with scanning electron microscope. The microstructure of specimens has been investigated with light microscopy. Detrimental effect of casting defects, as inclusions and porosity, on fatigue resistance has been proved. Also the influence of heat treatment's parameters has been described.

The formation of oxide film on the surface of aluminium melts, i.e. bifilms, are known to be detrimental when they are incorporated into the cast part. These defects causes premature fractures under stress, or aid porosity formation. In this work, Al-12 Si alloy was used to cast a step mould under two conditions: as-received and degassed. In addition, 10 ppi filters were used in the mould in order to prevent bifilm intrusion into the cast part. Reduced pressure test samples were collected for bifilm index measurements. Samples were machined into standard bars for tensile testing. It was found that there was a good agreement with the bifilm index and mechanical properties.

W artykule omówiono niektóre z przyczyn obecności austenitu szczątkowego w stalach stopowych, fazy będącej ubocznym produktem przemiany martenzytycznej. Stale stopowe zawierają zawsze pewne ilości austenitu szczątkowego, więcej te spośród nich, w których austenit obok kinetyki atermicznej może się przemieniać izotermicznie w martenzyt. Niektóre z nich charakteryzują się unikatowym wpływem szybkości chłodzenia na stabilność austenitu. Nieprzemieniony, stabilizowany bardziej stopowy austenit rozmieszcza się na granicach ziaren.
Some problems of a presence of the retained austenite in the alloy steels, are disscused in the paper. The phase of aicidental product of the martensite transformation is also included into consideration. The alloy steel susually contains a carbon a certains amount of the retained austenite and that is more some of this can be isothermaly changed in martensite, independently near the atermical kineticts of austenite. Some a transformation can be characterized by original influence of the cooling speed on the austenite stability. Unchanged but stabilized alloy austenit eis located an the grain bondiers.

The aim of this paper was to determine the effect of heat treatment for the corrosion resistance of the ZnAl40Ti2Cu alloy under “acid rain” conditions. ZnAl40TiCu alloy after supersaturation and after supersaturation and aging was studied. Potentiodynamic studies, potentiostatic studies and studies on structure of the alloy top layer of samples after corrosion tests were carried out. These investigations indicated a significant influence of heat treatment on corrosion resistance of the ZnAl40Ti2Cu alloy. The highest increase in corrosion resistance comparing to the alloy in the as-cast condition may be obtained by supersaturation. A significant influence of the aging temperature and time on corrosion resistance was proved.

This article presents the results of studies of simulations of die forging of a drive shaft for small and medium watercraft. The formed material is a chromium and nickel alloy endogenically modified with nitrogen. Numerical simulations were carried out using the DEFORM-3D program, by means of which a map of mean stresses, temperature, deformation intensity, and cracking according to the Cockroft-Latham model were obtained. The results of the conducted studies will enable selection of the appropriate technological parameters in the process of forging CrNiN alloys.

We have utilized a phase-field model to investigate the evolution of eutectic silicon in Al-Si alloy. The interfacial fluctuations are included into a phase-field model of two-phase solidification, as stochastic noise terms and their dominant role in eutectic silicon formation is discussed. We have observed that silicon spherical particles nucleate on the foundation of primary aluminum phase and their nucleation continues on concentric rings, through the Al matrix. The nucleation of silicon particles is attributed to the inclusion of fluctuations into the phase-field equations. The simulation results have shown needle-like, fish-bone like and flakes of silicon phase by adjusting the noise coefficients to larger values. Moreover, the role of primary Al phase on nucleation of silicon particles in Al-Si alloy is elaborated. We have found that the addition of fluctuations plays the role of modifiers in our simulations and is essential for phase-field modeling of eutectic growth in Al-Si system. The simulated finger-like Al phases and spherical Si particles are very similar to those of experimental eutectic growth in modified Al-Si alloy.

This paper presents the results of research work on linear friction stir welding (FSW) of magnesium AZ31 and aluminum 2024 alloys. During the FSW process, forces exerted by a tool on joined materials were measured. The measurements of forces were taken in three directions, vertical (Z axis) and horizontal (X and Y axes) directions, using high-sensitive piezoelectric dynamometer. The force analysis was done for three stages of welding process: plunging, dwelling, and welding. Conclusions regarding the force reaction of materials to be welded were formulated. It was found that the first two stages of the process, plunging and dwelling, are very important for the correct welding. In the plunging stage, a tool exerts the greatest forces and unit pressures (at the Z direction) on joined materials; during the dwelling stage, thermal conditions of the process are established. The welding stage was divided into two substages: the initial unstable and the subsequent long-term stabilized one.

In this work, the effect of the microstructure on corrosion behavior of selected Mg- and Al-based as cast alloys, was evaluated. The electrochemical examinations were carried out, and then a morphology of corrosion products formed due to local polarization on materials surface, was analyzed. It was documented that the presence of Mg2Si phase plays an important role in the corrosion course of Mg-based alloy. A selective etching was observed in sites of Mg2Si precipitates having “Chinese script”- like morphology. Analogous situation was found for Al-based alloy, where the key role was played by cathodic θ-CuAl2 phase.

The work presents the research results of the silumin coat structure applied on the carbidic alloy ductile iron with the metal matrix: pearlitic, bainitic and martensitic. The coats were made in the AlSi5 silumin bath at the temperature tk = 750±5ºC. The holding time of cast iron element in the bath was \tau = 180s. Irrespective of the kind of tested ductile iron the obtained coat consisted of three layers with a different phase composition. The first layer from the cast iron ground “g1” is built from Fe4CSi carbide which contains selected alloy additives of the cast iron. On it the second layer “g1” crystallizes. It consists of the AlFeSi inter-metallic phase which can appear in its pure form or contain a small quantity of the alloy additives of the cast iron. The last external part of the layer “g2” mainly consists of the hypo-eutectic phases of silumin. The AlFeSi inter-metallic phases in the form of free precipitations with a lamellar or faceted morphology can also appear there. These phases also can contain a small quantity of the alloy additives of the cast iron. More than that, in all the layers of the coat there are graphite precipitations. The phenomenon of graphite movement to the coat is caused by intensive dissolving of the cast iron element surface by the aluminum of the silumin bath.

In the course of sputtering the powder surface has been periodically analyzed. The multimetallic coatings were being dissolved in 2 M HCl and the obtained solutions were analyzed by ICP method to determine Cr3+, Mn2+, Fe2+, Co2+ and Ni2+ ions concentration. The aim of the analysis was comparison of atomic proportions of the elements in the target and in obtained layer and indirect determining of the layer thickness.

Al Alloys have an important position in the industry, mainly in the automotive and aerospace industries. One important group is silumins (Al-Si alloys). Al-Si alloys are the leading casting alloys based on aluminum. Machining of aluminum alloys is currently frequently used and it is an important area of production. This paper deals with an experiment that was conducted at the Faculty of Production Technology and Management, University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně in Ústí nad Labem, where alloy AlSi7Mg0,3 was experimented upon. Samples were made for processing from the master alloy AlSi7Mg0,3, subsequently unmodified and modified of Sr, Ca and Sb. This paper describes the evaluation of hardness, chip and tool wear in terms of how modification by Sr, Ca and Sb may affect analytical values.
