Opis:
The main emphasis of this paper is the application of adaptive neurofuzzy model-based predictive control, to regulate the water level in the U-tube steam generating (UTSG) unit used for electricity generation. A nonlinear predictive controller is designed on the basis of a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model with B-spline membership function. By on-line adaptation of the neurofuzzy model, improvement of the control performance can be achieved with the time-variant process behaviour. For this purpose, a normalized least-square algorithm is utilized which exploits the local linearity of Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy models. An optimization approach with a quadratic programing technique is used to calculate predictions of the future control actions. The effectiveness and real-world applicability of the proposed approach are demonstrated by computer simulation. The control experiments were successfully conducted for this nonlinear process with satisfactory results and performances.

As the market imposes constantly increasing levels of reliability and availability of production equipment, it is necessary to shift the focus of maintenance toward predictive strategies. However, as any other investment, implementation of the required condition monitoring systems has to be cost justified. This paper presents a case study showing use of LCC calculations to assess changes of maintenance strategy for a CNC machining centre. It was proven that replacing reactive maintenance tasks with simple condition monitoring and preventive activities results in lower whole life cycle cost of the analysed machining centre.

W budowie regulatora zastosowano algorytm Generalized Predictive Control (GPC), w którym model obiektu sterowanego zidentyfikowano w oparciu o dane otrzymane w wyniku eksperymentu numerycznego. Sprawdzenie poprawności rozwiązania przeprowadzono w środowisku Matlab® korzystając z przybornika Model Predictive Control™. Weryfikację działania metody oparto o dane i strukturę obiektu zidentyfikowane w ramach projektu prowadzonego we współpracy z PWiK Rybnik Sp. z. o. o. Otrzymane wyniki potwierdzają poprawność działania metody dla tak postawionego problemu eksploatacji sieci wodociągowych.
The paper presents results of research on predictive control of a water distribution network with multiple supplies. The object of study was optimization of work parameters of a water distribution network in order to decrease the level of pressure at night for the places with the highest pressure values. This was achieved by manipulating the supply pressures to obtain the desired level of the pressure lines for a given area. The considered water distribution networks are shown in Figs. 1 and 2, whereas description of the network characteristic points is given in Tab. 1. The detailed discussion of selected water networks is contained in [1, 2, 3]. The authors made a deep literature review [4] and, as a result, selected the Generalized Predictive Control algorithm (see Fig. 4) as a framework for the predictive control. The schema of the predictive control for an exemplary water distribution network is shown in Fig. 5. The con-trolled plant was identified from a numerical experiment made on a network simulation model. An exemplary result of model identification is shown in Fig. 3. The solution was verified in the Matlab® environment with use of the Model Predictive Control™ toolbox. The results shown in Figs. 6-10 confirm that the method is a proper solution to this water distribution network maintenance problem. Implementation of the predictive control in a real water distribution network needs some costs to be incurred. However, it is expected that the costs will be returned soon, thanks to significant decrease in the number of malfunctions in the network caused by excessive hydraulic loads of the water network elements. In addition, it is possible to use the predictive control as a solution to the problem of undetected leakages whose level may be reduced with this method of control.

Predictive Processing (PP) framework construes perception and action (and perhaps other cognitive phenomena) as a matter of minimizing prediction error, i.e. the mismatch between the sensory input and sensory predictions generated by a hierarchically organized statistical model. There is a question of how PP fits into the debate between traditional, neurocentric and representation-heavy approaches in cognitive science and those approaches that see cognition as embodied, environmentally embedded, extended and (largely) representation-free. In the present paper, I aim to investigate and clarify the cognitivist or ‘conservative’ reading of PP. I argue that the conservative commitments of PP can be divided into three distinct categories: (1) representationalism, (2) inferentialism, and (3) internalism. I show how these commitments and their relations should be understood and argue for an interpretation of each that is both non-trivial and largely ecumenical towards the 4E literature. Conservative PP is as progressive as conservatism gets

In this paper, the optimal control law is derived for a multi-variable state-space Linear Quadratic Gaussian Predictive Controller (LQGPC). A dynamic performance index is utilized resulting in an optimal steady-state controller. Knowledge of future reference values is incorporated into the controller design and the solution is derived using the method of Lagrange multipliers. It is shown how the well-known GPC controller can be obtained as a special case of the LQGPC controller design. The important advantage of using the LQGPC framework for designing predictive controllers is that, based on stabilizing properties of LQG control, it enables a systematic approach to selection of the design parameters to yield a stable closed-loop system. The system model considered in this paper can be further extended toalso include direct feed-through and knowledge about future external inputs.

This paper proposes an improved Model Predictive Control (MPC) approach including a fuzzy compensator in order to track desired trajectories of autonomous Underwater Vehicle Manipulator Systems (UVMS). The tracking performance can be affected by robot dynamical model uncertainties and applied external disturbances. Nevertheless, the MPC as a known proficient nonlinear control approach should be improved by the uncertainty estimator and disturbance compensator particularly in high nonlinear circumstances such as underwater environment in which operation of the UVMS is extremely impressed by added nonlinear terms to its model. In this research, a new methodology is proposed to promote robustness virtue of MPC that is done by designing a fuzzy compensator based on the uncertainty and disturbance estimation in order to reduce or even omit undesired effects of these perturbations. The proposed control design is compared with conventional MPC control approach to confirm the superiority of the proposed approach in terms of robustness against uncertainties, guaranteed stability and precision.

Laser triangulation is one of the machine vision measurement methods most commonly used in 3D quality control. However, considering its susceptibility to interference, it cannot be used in certain areas of industrial production e.g. very shiny surfaces. Thus, for the improvement of its applicability, a predictive algorithm of light profile segmentation was designed, where - as a result of using a'priori knowledge - the method becomes resistant to secondary reflexes. The developed technique has been tested on selected parts with surfaces typical for the machine-building industry. The evaluation has been presented based on the surface representation (mapping) error analysis, using the difference between the obtained cloud of points and the nominal surface as processing data, as well as scatter of the discrete Gauss curvature.

Predictive Functional Control (PFC), belonging to the family of predictive control techniques, has been demonstrated as a powerful algorithm for controlling process plants. The input/output PFC formulation has been a particularly attractive paradigm for industrial processes, with a combination of simplicity and effectiveness. Though its use of a lag plus delay ARX/ARMAX model is justified in many applications, there exists a range of process types which may present difficulties, leading to chattering and/or instability. In this paper, instability of first order PFC is addressed, and solutions to handle higher order and difficult systems are proposed. The input/output PFC formulation is extended to cover the cases of internal models with zero and/or higher order pole dynamics in an ARX/ARMAX form, via a parallel and cascaded model decomposition. Finally, a generic form of PFC, based on elementary outputs, is proposed to handle a wider range of higher order oscillatory and non-minimum phase systems. The range of solutions presented are supported by appropriate examples.

This paper describes a computationally efficient (sub-optimal) nonlinear predictive control algorithm. The algorithm uses a modified dual-mode approach which guarantees closed-loop stability. In order to reduce the computational burden, instead of online nonlinear optimisation used in the classical dual-mode control scheme, a nonlinear model of the plant is linearised on-line and a quadratic programming problem is solved. Calculation of the terminal set and implementation steps of the algorithm are detailed, especially for input-output models, which are widely used in practice.

Opis:
Purpose: The objective of this paper is to describe concepts and assumptions of predictive marketing analytics in reference to decision making. In particular, we highlight issues pertaining to the importance of data and the modern approach to data analysis and processing with the purpose of solving real marketing problems that companies encounter in business. Methodology: In this paper authors provide two study cases showing how, and to what extent predictive marketing analytics work can be useful in practice e.g., investigation of the marketing environment. The two cases are based on organizations operating mainly on Web site domain. The fi rst part of this article, begins a discussion with the explanation of a general idea of predictive marketing analytics. The second part runs through opportunities it creates for companies in the process of building strong competitive advantage in the market. The paper article ends with a brief comparison of predictive analytics versus traditional marketing-mix analysis. Findings: Analytics play an extremely important role in the current process of business management based on planning, organizing, implementing and controlling marketing activities. Predictive analytics provides the actual and current picture of the external environment. They also explain what problems are faced with the company in business activities. Analytics tailor marketing solutions to the right time and place at minimum costs. In fact they control the effi ciency and simultaneously increases the effectiveness of the firm. Practical implications: Based on the study cases comparing two enterprises carrying business activities in different areas, one can say that predictive analytics has far more been embraces extensively than classical marketing-mix analyses. The predictive approach yields greater speed of data collection and analysis, stronger predictive accuracy, better obtained competitor data, and more transparent models where one can understand the inner working of the model. Originality: Authors describe the importance of analytics which enhance the decisions that the company makes as it executes strategies and plans, so that the company can be more effective and achieve better results. The key factor that enables to execute marketing strategies accurately and build competitive advantage in the future includes predictive modeling. The ability to predict probable futures allows us to shape the future, rather than merely survive whatever it brings.

The predictive control scheme is developed for an overhead crane using the generalized predictive procedure applied for the discrete time linear parameter-varying model of a crane dynamic. The robust control technique is developed with respect to the constraints of sway angle of a payload and control input signal. The two predictive strategies are presented and compared experimentally. In the first predictive control scheme, the online estimation of the parameters of a crane dynamic model is performed using the recursive least square algorithm. The second approach is a sensorless anti-sway control strategy. The sway angle feedback signal is estimated by a linear parameter-varying model of an unactuated pendulum system with the parameters interpolated using a quasi-linear fuzzy model designed through utilizing the P1-TS fuzzy theory. The fuzzy interpolator is applied to approximate the parameters of a crane discrete-time dynamic model within the range of scheduling variables changes: the rope length and mass of a payload. The experiments carried out on a laboratory scaled overhead crane confirmed effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed solutions. The implementation of control systems was performed using the PAC system with RX3i controller. The series of experiments carried out for different operating points proved robustness of the control approaches presented in the article.

A comparative simulation study of self-tuning control system behaviour is given with respect to the design parameters and constraints. The stability of a closed-loop control system is analyzed and the computational loads of both the methods are compared.

The weighting factors determine the properties of control structure via an optimization method using genetic algorithms. The results of simulation studies has been presented.

Opis:
The model predictive control (MPC) technique has been widely applied in a large number of industrial plants. Optimal input design should guarantee acceptable model parameter estimates while still providing for low experimental effort. The goal of this work is to investigate an application-oriented identification experiment that satisfies the performance objectives of the implementation of the model. A- and D-optimal input signal design methods for a non-linear liquid two-tank model are presented in this paper. The excitation signal is obtained using a finite impulse response filter (FIR) with respect to the accepted application degradation and the power constraint. The MPC controller is then used to control the liquid levels of the double tank system subject to the reference trajectory. The MPC scheme is built based on the linearized and discretized model of the system to predict the system’s succeeding outputs with reference to the future input signal. The novelty of this model-based method consists in including the experiment cost in input design through the objective function. The proposed framework is illustrated by means of numerical examples, and simulation results are discussed.

Opis:
The strategy of predictive maintenance monitoring is important for successful system damage detection. Maintenance monitoring utilizes dynamic response information to identify the possibility of damage. The basic factors of faults detection analysis are related to properties of the structure under inspection, collect the signals and appropriate signals processing. In vibration control, structures response sensing is limited by the number of sensors or the number of input channels of the data acquisition system. An essential problem in predictive maintenance monitoring is the optimal sensor placement. The paper addresses that problem by using mixed integer linear programming tasks solving. The proposed optimal sensors location approach is based on the difference between sensor information if sensor is present and information calculated by linear interpolation if sensor is not present. The tasks results define the optimal sensors locations for a given number of sensors. The results of chosen sensors locations give as close as possible repeating the curve of structure dynamic response function. The proposed approach is implemented in an algorithm for predictive maintenance and the numerical results indicate that together with intelligent signal processing it could be suitable for practical application.

Opis:
Reduction of transient and residual payload swing in crane systems is a key control objective to guarantee the safety and efficiency requirements. The fast and accurate payload positioning with swing suppression within the acceptable range to avoid accidents is the challenging problem due to the underactuated nature of crane systems. Since the actuated motion causes undesirable payload swing, the efficient control method should be developed to ensure fast and precise payload positioning and meet the safety requirements. The standard model predictive control method is not suitable for underactuated mechanical systems. In this article the two, soft and hard-constrained antisway predictive control strategies are compared in experiments carried out on a laboratory scaled overhead travelling crane. The both control schemes are developed based on the linear parameter-varying model of a planar crane system. The recursive least square algorithm with parameter projection is used to estimate the model parameters. The soft-constrained optimization problem is solved using the particle swarm optimization algorithm with the inertia weight linearly decreasing during iteration. The metaheuristic optimizer is applied to determine the sequence of optimal control increments subject to the hard constraint of the control input and soft constraint of the payload swing. The comparison of hard and soft-constrained predictive controllers is carried out on a laboratory stand for different payload deflection constraints.

Opis:
The method of controlling an overhead crane with respect to the variation of operating conditions and control constraints is developed using a model predictive control (MPC) and fuzzy interpolation applied in linear parameter varying (LPV) approach to crane dynamic modelling. The proposed control approach is based on the assumption that operating conditions vary within the known range of scheduling variables, and the parameters of a crane dynamic model can be interpolated by a quasi-linear fuzzy model designed through utilizing the P1-TS fuzzy theory. Hence, a crane dynamic is approximated through interpolation between a set of local linear models determined through identification experiments at the local operating points selected within the bounded intervals of scheduling variables. For the modelling assumptions, the control algorithm is developed based on a generalized predictive control (GPC) procedure taking into consideration the constraints on sway angle of a payload and control signal. Feasibility and applicability of the proposed control technique were confirmed during experiments carried out on a laboratory-scaled overhead crane. The results of experiments are presented and compared with performances of a fuzzy logic-based scheduling control scheme.

Opis:
This paper investigates the application of a novel Model Predictive Control struc- ture for the drive system with an induction motor. The proposed controller has a cascade-free structure that consists of a vector of electromagnetics (torque, flux) and mechanical (speed) states of the system. The long-horizon version of the MPC is investigated in the paper. In order to reduce the computational complexity of the algorithm, an explicit version is applied. The influence of different factors (length of the control and predictive horizon, values of weights) on the performance of the drive system is investigated. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is validated by some experimental tests.

Opis:
For quite a long time, research studies have attempted to combine various analytical tools to build predictive models. It is possible to combine tools of the same type (ensemble models, committees) or tools of different types (hybrid models). Hybrid models are used in such areas as customer relationship management (CRM), web usage mining, medical sciences, petroleum geology and anomaly detection in computer networks. Our hybrid model was created as a sequential combination of a cluster analysis and decision trees. In the first step of the procedure, objects were grouped into clusters using the k-means algorithm. The second step involved building a decision tree model with a new independent variable that indicated which cluster the objects belonged to. The analysis was based on 14 data sets collected from publicly accessible repositories. The performance of the models was assessed with the use of measures derived from the confusion matrix, including the accuracy, precision, recall, F-measure, and the lift in the first and second decile. We tried to find a relationship between the number of clusters and the quality of hybrid predictive models. According to our knowledge, similar studies have not been conducted yet. Our research demonstrates that in some cases building hybrid models can improve the performance of predictive models. It turned out that the models with the highest performance measures require building a relatively large number of clusters (from 9 to 15).

Opis:
This paper is concerned with a computationally efficient (suboptimal) non-linear Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithm based on two types of neural models: Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) and Radial Basis Function (RBF) structures. The model takes into account not only controlled but also the uncontrolled input of the process, i.e. the measured disturbance. The algorithm is computationally efficient, because it results in a quadratic programming problem, which can be effectively solved on-line by means of a numerically reliable software subroutine. Moreover, the algorithm gives good closed-loop control performance, comparable to that obtained in the fully-fledged non-linear MPC technique, which hinges on non-linear, usually non-convex optimisation.
