In the last decade, the growing interest in the subject of musicians’ mental practice has produced a significant increase in research on mental and instrumental practice. More than half of all the studies concerns professional musicians, and relatively little research is conducted on children or adolescents. The article will describe research on the mental practice of teenagers attending music schools in Poland and Germany. Questionnaire surveys answer the question of whether young people use mental practice, how they do it, and what the content of mental training while practicing an instrument is. The analysis suggests that gifted adolescents from both countries (1) do not use mental rehearsal very often and (2) use mental practice strategies in a similar way. What they differ in is the frequency of using mental practice as an integral part of their instrumental learning, using musical-analytical strategy, and the quality of mental practice. The study indicates the need to teach mental practice and its importance in increasing the effectiveness of instrumental practice.

The philosophy of evidence-based practice advocates professionals to rely on scientific evidence. Although the idea seems obvious, misuse of the philosophy raised controversy, which created confusion and misunderstanding of the concept. Yet, since it was introduced in the nineties to the medical community and despite the controversy, it gained more and more disciples and was embraced by nonmedical practitioners, including the polygraph profession. In the last decades, the polygraph community has gradually abandoned the intuitive-based polygraph practice that relies on less scientifically rooted subjective procedures and advanced toward evidence-based polygraph practice. This paper describes the evidence-based practice in general and details the practical aspects of evidence-based polygraph practice in particular, along with discussing the limitations of the current scientific research. It questions the current bone-tone trend to implement an extreme Evidence-Based approach into the polygraph practice, suggesting the practitioner to avoid a rigid “one size fit all” standardized protocols which are advocated as a must on the way to earn scientific recognition, whereas, in fact, it is the unfortunate outcome of lack of differential research data. As in the medical field, in-where the Evidence-Based practice managed to incorporate the clinical experience of experts with the hard research evidence and has not disregarded their valuable knowledge and experience, the present article calls for adopting this integrative approach in the polygraph field too and adjust the protocols to the specific circumstances of the case and the examinee in a “tailor-made” mode, which is based on existing data and flexible thinking wherever there is no data to rely on, as was suggested under the concept of “Adaptive-Polygraphy” (Ginton, 2013).

The paper offers a glimpse at the diversity of what is labelled Philosophy of Culture, and then brings out some important issues concerning culture (aristocratic vs democratic vision, genealogical unification vs respect of heterogeneity, relevance vs irrelevance of social and historical approach). The first section expounds etho-analysis as a way of doing philosophy of culture, introducing the notions of solicitator, sensance and ethos. It also gives an idea of how its program has been conducted with respect to love or truth. Etho-analysis describes the ideal part of culture, interpreting it as revealed by concrete practice. The second section discusses whether and how far etho-analysis embraces the cause of truth and validates the scholastic tradition which has provided tools for it. Etho-analysis claims to formulate true descriptions. It understands meaning as unfolding its complication thanks to traditional tools, and recognizes the ethical significance of the community of science.

Opis:
In pre-service training for teachers of English opportunities for dialogic interaction (Skidmore and Murakami, 2017) with a mentor are seen to play an important role in professional awareness and development (Wallace, 1993; Gabryś-Barker, 2012; Howard and Donaghue, 2015). To fulfil the demands of their practices student-teachers work with a number of different people: a school teacher (mentor), aca-demic supervisor and the academic staff who lead the English teach-ing methodology course (Blaszk, 2015). This being the case, it was hypothesized that teaching practices might exist as a community of practice within which student-teachers in interaction with these different people would be supported in their professional development. The aim of the qualitative research reported in this paper was to discover how the student-teachers in a particular institution perceived their teaching practices and whether or not those practices could be viewed as a community of practice that supported the students.

Community of practice and the individualization of the educational process are the central concepts of the author’s reflections. In the article, selected conceptualizations of the community of practice have been presented. They have been found to be a starting point for the individualization of the educational approach to children at preschool and school age. The importance of the involvement of the whole local community in creating the educational environment has been shown on a basis of two ready for use models of community of practice proposed by P. Moss and R. Myers. The concept of individualization has been considered in the second part of the text. In this respect, self-esteem, as the major factor of the personalization of the educational dialogue between an adult (teacher) and a child, has been underlined. Its potential strength in determining the effects of the personalized interactions between an adult and a child has been highlighted.

The objective of the study was to characterize the mycological quality of air at animal veterinary practice in Krakow. Bioaerosol measurements were performed during the summer season of 2017. The samples of outdoor and indoor air at animal veterinary practice were collected using a 6-stage Andersen`s air sampler. The highest concentration of fungal aerosol was observed in the treatment room. The analysis showed various fungal contamination in different measuring points at different measuring times of the day. Based on the analysis of bioaerosol particle size distribution it was found that the largest "load" of fungi, isolated form the air, can reach (in the human respiratory tract) to the region of the throat, trachei and primary bronchi. The predominant fungi in indoor air was Penicillium spp. and Cladosporium cladosporoides. Fungi that can cause dermatophytoses have also been isolated from indoor air: Microsporum canis and Trichophyton verrucosum. The study confirmed that the animal veterinary practice can be a workplace related to exposure to microbial agents.

W „Autobiografii” będziemy śledzić, jak ewoluują stare przekazy autobiograficzne (list, autobiografia, silva rerum, dziennik, pamiętnik…); a także rejestrować to, co dzieje się z ich współczesnymi wariantami (e-mailem, blogiem, internetowym komiksem autobiograficznym, autorską stroną internetową, profilem na FB, kroniką rodzinną w sieci…). Będziemy pytać, jak te nowe formy wypowiedzi oddziałują na dotychczasowe narracje osobiste i jak modyfikują dzisiejsze sposoby ekspresji, również poprzez wprowadzanie do pisma elementów innych sztuk. Krótko rzecz ujmując – zamierzamy opisywać rozmaite warianty coraz częściej uprawianej autobiografii multimedialnej.
In Autobiography we will be tracing the evolution of traditional autobiographical texts (such as letter, autobiography, silva rerum, journal, memoir etc.) as well as comment on their contemporary versions (e-mail, blog, autobiographical webcomics, personal webpages, facebook profile, family online chronicle etc.). We will be asking about the influence these forms have on the hitherto personal narratives and the way they modify today’s forms of expression, including the way the written forms incorporate other forms. In brief: we will be researching various modes of the evergrowing trend of multimedia autobiography.

On the Polish books market there are a lot of items concerning the SME sector. Dominate publications descriptive, and if they are based on some research, it is usually fragmented, relatively little representative to the whole sector, and have now largely historical character. However, there are few publications that reflect the results of the research directions of structural changes in the SME sector, showing the transition from traditional business to professional company management. The book Artisans and businessmen. Owners of small and medium-sized private enterprises, scientifically edited by Juliusz Gardawski, stands out, thanks to the depth perception of the changes that occurs in the sector, but also due to the long-term watching what happen in reality in this sector of the economy. Discussing the contents of the book, the author analyses a number of ideas, while referring to the world’ scientific output.
Na polskim rynku książek jest dużo pozycji dotyczących sektora MŚP. Przeważają prace, które mają charakter opisowy, a jeśli są oparte na jakichś badaniach, to zazwyczaj wycinkowych, stosunkowo mało reprezentatywnych dla całości sektora, i mających już w dużej mierze charakter historyczny. Niewiele jest natomiast publikacji, które odzwierciedlałyby wyniki prowadzonych badań nad kierunkami zmian strukturalnych w sektorze MŚP, pokazujących przechodzenie od tradycyjnej przedsiębiorczości do profesjonalnego zarządzania firmą. Książka Rzemieślnicy i biznesmeni. Właściciele małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw prywatnych, pod redakcją naukową Juliusza Gardawskiego wyróżnia się, dzięki głębokości postrzegania zmian które zachodzą w tym sektorze, ale także dzięki wieloletniej obserwacji, tego co w tym sektorze gospodarki dzieje się realnie. Omawiając treść książki autor rozwija szereg myśli, odwołując się przy tym do światowego dorobku o naukowego.

The aim of this paper is to attempt at building a bridge between education and situated learning. The etymology of the word education outlines the two major ways of envisioning education. The meaning which we give to the term ‘education’ surely influences the ways in which the process of education unfolds and is actually conducted. The Constructivist Approach which is being used in education today is characterised by its studentcenteredness rather than teacher‑centeredness. The adoption of Communities of Practice from the industrial sphere to the realm of Catholic schools is a way in which education as bringing forth from the student (e‑ducere) and the constructivist approach developed earlier can be put into practice in Catholic Schools. Communities of practice create the right condition for situated learning in Catholic schools today. It is here that legitimate peripheral participation can be put into practice, thus fulfilling the Church’s mission of evangelisation in our contemporary culture by drawing students from the periphery of the educational endeavour, making them active participants at the core.

The model of manager’s competence formation is developed by the authors. Psychological ability to practice is a key part of this model. An empirical research of psychological ability of future managers to practice is carried out using five questionnaires of psychological tests on the example of Sumy National Agrarian University. It was conducted during 2012/2013 academic year. The authors evaluated the future professionals’ abilities to motivation, risk, entrepreneurship, leadership etc. The results showed that, depending on their psychological features, respondents of each of the four groups are inclined to work in different sectors of economy.

This article aims to present social work as a practice protecting the rights of people suffering from the processes of marginalisation. It takes as its point of departure two models of advocacy structuring multiple types of activity in this field, ranging from work with particular individuals to political engagement at the macro level. The next part offers a discussion of the results of a quantitative study (CAWI and CATI interviews) conducted among social workers from local social welfare centres in the Wielkopolska region. In the light of analysis of the obtained data, the practice of advocacy in social work emerges as one focused on providing direct assistance in the form of financial and non-financial benefits. The declared level of acceptance to facilitating collective action and macro practice of social work was lower. The results also reveal the attitudes of social workers to social rights and social problems.

This paper considers the mutual relationship and cooperation between engineering theory and practice in the development of the professional performance of engineers. In this paper, theory is understood as the ability of creative thinking - the spiritus movens (moving spirit) of any reasonable human activity, and that of the engineer's in particular. Therefore, high standards of general education preceding the university schooling, and at the university itself, should be of much concern for the engineering students, educators, and practitioners - in order to develop intellectually mature humans-engineers. The nontechnical demands placed upon the engineer require more than pure technical capabilities. The author wishes to present the development and the state-of-the-art of his own judgment in that matter.

The theoretical basis of the teaching practice model is based on the tradition of praxis, critical theory and the psychopedagogics of creativity. Teacher’s actions are determined by the knowledge of a reflective – critical praxis and are understood to be wise and ethical, requiring application and interpretation of the theory. In their teaching practice, teachers should use both instrumental knowledge, that is téchnē and create new and valuable solutions. All this should begin with the very first teaching experiences of the students, especially in the real-life situations offered by the teaching practice. This means the process of education in the practices should be organized by an academic teacher (practice teacher). The idea is that students do not learn directly from their practice, but progress in their teaching practice from the application of theory to creation and verification of their own, new and valuable solutions. The Practice teacher supports students by organizing group and individual educational dialogue and pedagogical discourse on the practice material, and learning through research and action. The effectiveness of the teaching practice is determined by research conducted by an academic teacher using a variety of qualitative research techniques.

The status of philosophy of culture seems to be notoriously unclear. Since its birth as a methodologically self-aware discipline, it constantly provokes controversies and questions concerning its nature, scope, and objective field of cognitive interests. Is it to be conceived – as it was intended by Wilhelm Dilthey – as a kind of philosophical foundation for Geisteswissenschaften and even more specifically for Kulturwissenschaften – in which case it would play a parallel role to philosophy of science in its relation to natural sciences? Or is it to be understood as a kind of inter-discipline or trans-discipline whose task is to provide a synoptic view on the world we live in and try to understand? Or perhaps one should see it as a particular meta-philosophical orientation – understood rather in terms of a specific approach or a form of sensitivity than as a discipline which would be fully determined with regard to its methodology and objective field of cognitive interests? Or, as some scholars quite convincingly suggest, should be seen first and foremost as a way of life oriented around human intellectual and spiritual growth? Or still as something else? Furthermore, even if we assume a common agreement with regard to its nature and status among other philosophical (sub-)disciplines as well as its relation to humanities and natural sciences – it does not mean that it will be followed by a similar agreement with regard to its most adequate methodological approach. Should it be: descriptive, archeological, critical, procesual, teleological, normative? Perhaps a synthesis comprising all of them? Or still something different?

This article seeks to understand why it is relatively easy for today’s individuals to acquire new behaviors, how the mechanism behind such acquisition developed, and how it is socially coordinated. Empirical findings reveal that new behaviors are mostly acquired unthinkingly. Hence, revisiting practice theory, I propose the concept of meta-habit to help us understand the blind and automatic acquisition of new behaviors. According to Pierre Bourdieu, habitus acquired primarily in childhood generates practices and contributes to the reproduction of the social order. Meta-habit includes disposal toward being open to situational context, toward inquisitiveness, and toward reading the external clues of behavior. Meta-habit generates practices on the basis of influences in the symbolic community: in this way practices are coordinated socially. Meta-habit is responsible for the reproduction of the social order in situations when the social space is very dynamic-this being the case of late modernity, which is a system comprising myriads of fields.

In this article, the author tackles the post-secular turnaround in the context of practising science, and as such how this manner of thinking has affected how science, its tasks and its practical activity is perceived by those practising it. Initially two fundamental concepts are discussed, namely secularisation and post-secularism – their pedigree and ways in which they are expressed. The article deals later with issues related to the presence of religious references in the natural sciences, as well as the possibilities of utilising the natural sciences in religion and theology. Consequently, the area of issues embraced by the new scientific sub-discipline known as the theology of science is discussed. The article then addresses the discourse regarding the presence of theology and religion in sociology, and refers to the conceptions of such sociologists as P. Rieff, K. Flanagan, Z. Krasnodębski, E. Hałas and K.T. Konecki. Finally, it indicates possible further consequences of post-secular thinking in the field of sociology, and relates the current post-secular turn to Nikolai Berdyaev’s concept of the New Middle Ages.

Objective. Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) is the “conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients” and integrating individual clinical expertise with the best available evidence from systematic research and patients’ preferences. Interventions which have not been well-researched tend to be seen as ineffective. Standards of conduct, publications and appraisal of clinical trials have been established. Access to evidence and tools to its development and critical appraisal are provided by specialized journals, databases, textbooks, courses, online guidelines and research centres. Clinical Evidence is a priority in contemporary health care, including physical medicine and rehabilitation. World Confederation for Physiotherapy and leading national organizations recognize the need for development towards evidence based practice (EBP).Aims. To provide rationale for and information about EBP in physiotherapy and to review available and WCPT’s recommended clinical evidence resources in physiotherapy. Essential elements (synthesizing, assessing and implementing the evidence) and hierarchies of its sources are presented.Data Sources and Selection. EBP’s elements, objectives and standards of proficiency are described in accordance with WCPT’s, other professional organizations’ and health care institutions’ papers and documents. EBM and EBP philosophy backgrounds are based on primary publications in British Medical Journal, other recognized EBM and EBP initiatives and sources of clinical evidence (Centre of Evidence, Oxford, Bandolier Evidence Based Health Care, CEBP, PEDro, Medycyna Praktyczna) and physiotherapy scientific journals.Conclusions. EBP, being a combination of art and science, provides opportunities to improve physical therapy and patient care, promoting EB standards of care and continuous professional development. Physiotherapists and health service managers need to encourage EBP.
Założenia. Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) – „medycyna oparta na faktach naukowych” polega na integracji wiarygodnych danych naukowych, prawidłowego rozpoznania klinicznego oraz preferencji i wyborów pacjenta w podejmowaniu decyzji klinicznych. EBM umożliwia też weryfikację i zastępowanie nieefektywnych lub szkodliwych metod diagnostycznych i terapeutycznych metodami skutecznymi. W oparciu o idee EBM wypracowano standardy prowadzenia, publikowania i oceny wyników badań naukowych, powstały specjalistyczne czasopisma, bazy danych, podręczniki, kursy i przewodniki internetowe oraz centra naukowe. Zasady i postulaty EBM są w pełni aktualne w obszarze fizjoterapii, gdzie wypracowanie rzetelnych standardów postępowania wydaje się koniecznością. Cele. Przedstawienie znaczenia idei fizjoterapii opartej na dowodach naukowych (Evidence Based Practice) oraz działań i dorobku światowych instytucji ochrony zdrowia, środowisk akademickich i organizacji zawodowych w dziedzinie EBP w fizjoterapii. Źródła i wybór informacji. Wykorzystano publikacje Światowej Konfederacji Fizjoterapii (World Confederation for Physical Therapy, WCPT) i innych organizacji fizjoterapeutycznych i instytucji kierujących ochroną zdrowia, dotyczące zasad wdrażania EBP i standardów zawodowych. Idee EBM i EBP scharakteryzowano na podstawie tekstów źródłowych w British Medical Journal, renomowanych organizacji EBM, EBP i Clinical Evidence (Oxford Centre for Evidence Based Medicine, Bandolier Evidence Based Health Care, CEBP, PEDro, Medycyna Praktyczna) i czasopismach naukowych z dziedziny fizjoterapii. Omówiono zasady i elementy EBP oraz reguły ich wdrażania, a także sposoby tworzenia, pozyskiwania, syntezy i krytycznej oceny wiedzy o dowodach naukowych i faktach klinicznych (clinical evidence). Wnioski. Idea EBP jest szansą rozwoju fizjoterapii, służąc weryfikacji metod terapii, wprowadzaniu zasad kształcenia ustawicznego i rozwojowi wiedzy. Środowisko zawodowe oraz podmioty kierujące opieką zdrowotną powinny doceniać i wspierać rozwój EBP.

This article is an introduction to the discussion on the essence of teaching methodology and the changes in its forms in contemporary culture. Two approaches to methodology are proposed: as a socially collective praxis, often unconsciously drawing on cultural practices, and as a so-called expert methodology – a collection of patterns of proper execution, which are a manifestation of the power/knowledge relation in the fi eld of education. Psychology and cognitive science reports confirm that expert methodology is now losing its theoretical justification. The adoption of the concept of cultural (archetypal) methodology gives a chance of a deeper change in the practice of education, whose avant-garde are the concepts of the “reversed class” and of learning as a “dispersed” study, which consists of: equipment, material environment, and network interactions.

Retrieval practice is described as a pedagogy that includes ways that students have a chance to recall information during their study process. With the introduction of online learning and course management systems which permit secure testing online, a way is provided to generate many sets of small quizzes from large question pools which can serve as an efficient digital method for practicing recall of the information to be learned. Course management systems also provide a way to capture and store the results of the small quizzes used for retrieval practice. This study looks at data captured by taking numerous small quizzes as the retrieval learning process and compares the captured data sets to the grade distribution in the major exams for which the small quizzes are being used as a way to learn the material being tested. The overall results demonstrate that the use of retrieval practice does enhance student learning and also was found to lower the drop rate for the micro and macro anatomy courses studied.

The aim of this article is to revisit the work of the French philosopher Julia Kristeva and ask what place we might give her conceptual framework today. I will focus on one key aspect of Kristeva’s work, sexual difference, as that which ties most, if not all, aspects of Kristeva’s work. I am hoping to present a concise, yet wide-ranging view on Kristeva’s critical contribution to the fields of politics and ethics. My objective will be threefold. First, I will present the main lines of Kristeva’s theory on sexual difference; this presentation will also outline her political critique of equality and diversity in the domains of gender and sexuality. Kristeva believes that contemporary politics invested in suppressing inequality through the promotion of diversity will in the long term not only prove unsuccessful, but also create more exclusion. Secondly, I will point out the main objections raised against her theories and show how her critics come to their conclusions. Objectors to Kristeva’s sexual difference theory are mostly concerned with the manner in which she associates marginality and unintelligibility. They see little value in her theory, because, on the one hand, it relegates marginal groups to a world beyond social viability, and, on the other, because it effectively disables advancements in equality politics. Finally, I hope to provide the reader with a useful counter-critique to Kristeva’s detractors that will show why their views are partly founded on a misreading of her ethical (Freudian) framework and a desire to translate her work into a more pragmatic and user-friendly tool. I will argue that Kristeva’s work is best apprehended as a variant of psychoanalytic ethics and that to engage with its rhetoric is to capture the full weight of Kristeva’s contribution to politics and intellectual engagement.

The conception of sustainable development has been implemented into practice in numerous economic sectors, including forestry. Forest ecosystems are extremely important in the global ecological system, therefore maintenance and appropriate management of forest resources according to sustainable development principles have engaged a great deal of attention. The concept of sustainable forest management (SFM) encompasses three dimensions: ecological, economic and social. A powerful tool to promote SFM are criteria and indicators. The aim of the article was evaluation of SFM in Poland, using one of the methods proposed by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). According to data available, Polish forestry has a number of advantages: Poland has avoided the problem of deforestation, forest area has been permanently increasing, there has been observed improvement of forest health and vitality as well as a significant share of forests has carried out protective functions with no impact on timber production. Poland’s model of SFM is an adaptive process of balancing the ever-changing set of economic, environmental and social expectations. Such a complicated undertaking requires constant assessing and adjusting forest practices, in response to new circumstances, scientific advances and societal input.

W niniejszym artykule podjęto próbę rozróżnienia powyższych terminów w wymiarze poznawczym i strukturalnym.
In the last few years, the social perspective has become the dominant paradigm in knowledge management studies. Despite the existence of concise theoretical constructs that enable us to identify the concepts of knowledge communities, communities of practice and knowledge networks, there is a lot of definitional misinterpretation in KM-literature and in practice. The aim of this paper is to clear the relevant terminology in epistemological and structural dimension.

The article presents the results of analyses aimed at capturing the significance of bricolage emerging from its uses in scientific research practice. The main point of my interest are scientific conceptualizations of the concept of bricolage relating to the practice of defining, characterizing and embedding its meaning in existing theoretical approaches. The empirical basis of the analysis is confined to a set of 47 scientific articles which contain the concept of bricolage in their titles, abstracts, and keywords. Collecting these articles involved searching through such bibliographic databases as Web of Science, Scopus, Wiley, and the Polish National Library Catalogue. The direction of the analysis was inductive and emergent, subordinated to such research issues as: 1. what meanings of bricolage emerge from its use in scientific research practice? 2. how researchers justify the possibility of using bricolage in the practice of social and humanistic research? 3. what theoretical concepts are responsible for creating its meaning? Answering these questions has led me to a reconstruction of three conceptions of bricolage: epistemological bricolage, methodological bricolage, and hybrid bricolage.

The article raises a problem of learning practice in teaching traditional disciplines on the example of the insurance learning by the bilingual audience in the higher school. The problems exist depending on the type of audience: а) audience which is bilingual by the composition of a group for the whole learning period; b) audience which is bilingual for learning a specific discipline only. The article also presents a problem of preparing the visual information. During the preparation of the study information and creating the presentations it is necessary to take into account that the modern student audience has a wide operational computer experience and it has a specific “comic” perception of information. The bilingual audience learning requires the use of the presentation of the visual information approximated at maximum to the forms preferred by the student audience and the content of a material should not be changed. For the learning process management the system of the bilingual lecture material, presentations and additional single-language material preparing for each language audience has been developed. The author analyses the practical experience, problems and mistakes.
Artykuł podnosi problem uczenia się w procesie nauczania dwujęzycznych studentów szkół wyższych tradycyjnych dyscyplin na przykładzie dziedziny ubezpieczeń. Pojawiające się problemy zależą od rodzaju grupy: a) dwujęzyczni uczniowie uczący się w danej grupie podczas całego okresu szkolenia; b) dwujęzyczni uczniowie, którzy uczą się tylko wybranej dyscypliny. Artykuł dodatkowo prezentuje problematykę związaną z kwestią przygotowywania pomocy wizualnych. Podczas przygotowania audiowizualnych pomocy dydaktycznych należy mieć na uwadze to, że współczesny student ma ogromne doświadczenie w zakresie obsługi komputera i posiada szczególną percepcję informacji. Studenci dwujęzyczni wymagają zastosowania prezentacji wykładanego przedmiotu maksymalnie zbliżonej do form przez nich preferowanych, podczas gdy zawartość nie powinna być zmieniana. Celem właściwego zarządzania procesem uczenia się opracowano materiały dla grup dwujęzycznych, a także dodatkowe materiały i prezentacje dla studentów władających poszczególnymi językami. Autorka analizuje kwestie doświadczenia, pojawiających się trudności oraz napotykanych błędów.

Introduction: Osteopathy is a manual healthcare practice which has its roots in alternative and complementary medicine. The last thirty years have seen significant political, educational and professional developments in osteopathy in the UK. Against this changing landscape, perhaps it is not surprising that only 8% of the profession are over 60. However to take Antonovsky’s salutogenic approach , the question is not so much why most osteopaths retire, but why some do not. Purpose: To explore the perceptions and experiences of a group of osteopaths who remain in practice past state retirement age. Materials and methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven mature osteopaths. An interpretive phenomenological approach was used to analyse the data. A brief validated personality questionnaire was also completed to derive trait characteristics of the group. Results: Four themes emerged, with Finance and Health represented thus supporting existing literature. Career as a theme was strongly evident, with sub-themes of autonomy, generativity, helping others, success, relationships and regulation also apparent. The last theme Self, incorporated identity, interests, personal relationships and perceptions of work and retirement. Personality profiles were in line with those expected of contented employees and longevity, but at odds with the osteopathic profession as a whole. Conclusion: Making sense of ‘not retiring’ is completely coherent for mature osteopaths who enjoy career satisfaction, good health, and high self-esteem. W powyższym tekście została podjęta próba uporządkowania myślenia o wybranych pojęciach związanych z aktywnością edukacyjną ludzi dorosłych. Autorka dokonała porównań między pojęciami takimi jak: trening interpersonalny, trening, szkolenie, dokształcanie i doskonalenie zawodowe. Powyższe terminy wpisuje w pozaformalny obszar edukacji dorosłych. Trening sytuuje w obszarze psychologicznym, szkolenie zaś przypisuje naukom o zarządzaniu. Jednocześnie zwraca uwagę na to, że zarówno trening, jak i szkolenie są kategoriami andragogicznymi. Dotyczą one bowiem edukacyjnego wymiaru życia człowieka dorosłego.
The text aimed at ordering ways of thinking about chosen terms connected with educational activity of adults. The author compared the following terms: interpersonal practice, practice, training, additional training and professional development. She places these terms in non-formal field of adult education. She places practice in psychological field and training in management sciences. At the same time she highlights that both practice and training are andragogial criteria as they refer to the educational dimension of adult’s life.

Celem artykułu jest wskazanie na możliwości, ale i na ograniczenia, jakie wiążą się z upowszechnianiem praktyki, opartej na dowodach naukowych w edukacji. Podjęto w nim próbę rekonstrukcji założeń tej koncepcji z punktu widzenia aktualnych potrzeb praktyki. Artykuł skupia się na kilku kwestiach, istotnych dla implementacji evidence-based practice (EBP) w edukacji. Pierwsza z nich odnosi się do istoty tej koncepcji oraz jej związków z innymi instrumentami, wykorzystywanymi w pracy profesjonalnej – ewaluacją oraz badaniami w działaniu. Drugą z podejmowanych w tekście kwestii jest problem identyfikacji danych, którym można nadać status dowodów naukowych. Artykuł kończy dyskusja na temat szans, jakie dla rozwoju profesjonalnego nauczycieli tworzy EBP.
This paper discusses the possibilities and limitations in the dissemination of evidence-based practice in education (EBE) in Poland, focusing on a number of issues relevant to the implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) in education. The first refers to the essence of this concept and its relationship to other instruments used in professional practice: evaluation and action research. The second is the problem of data identification, which may be given the status of “evidence.” The article concludes with a discussion of opportunities for teacher professional development created by EBP.

Drawing on the processual perspective in management this article explores the process of the institutionalization of new practice in the context of value co-creation. The Service-Dominant logic perspective places the notion of value creation in the interaction between an organization and its customers. Therefore the contemporary research stream shows a bias towards the notion of a customer as a crucial contributor and beneficiary in the value creation process [Vargo and Lusch 2006a, 2008]. Following recent calls for research with a holistic approach it may be assumed that there is an underdeveloped processual perspective on value co-creation that offers a cognitive framework of routines and activities performed on an everyday basis within the Giddensian structuration theory. Using the Giddensian theory value co-creation can be perceived as a platform for the adoption of new practices. The purpose of the article is to determine the role of value co-creation processes in the context of initiating and institutionalizing of new practice in an organization. A comparative case study was carried out which illustrates the thesis that spontaneous actions form an important category of initiating change within the everyday use of value co-creation.

The purpose of this state-of-the-art review is to provide a general overview of recent research on time distribution and second language (L2) learning with special implications for classroom settings. Several studies have been performed to examine how to best distribute the hours of L2 practice to maximize learning by comparing conditions that promote intensive exposure versus others in which L2 input or instruction is more widely spaced. Findings from these studies are relevant not only for practical purposes but also for theory development. This review provides a summary of recent studies as well as suggestions for pedagogical practice. Additionally, it identifies areas for future research concerning the effect of time distribution on L2 learning.

artykule przedstawiono metodykę i wyniki procesu projektowego oraz badawczego prowadzonego ze studentami podczas realizacji stoiska targowego w czasie wystawy 4DD Days. Celem zadania było zrealizowanie wystawy - wielowątkowej ekspozycji, w której zakres wchodziła kreacja artystyczna samej wystawy oraz kreacja przestrzeni wystawienniczej na określonej powierzchni. Dzięki metodzie design thinking studenci stworzyli prototyp elementu wystawienniczego zrealizowanego na targach. Celem dydaktycznym było zapoznanie studentów z realnymi wyzwaniami: doświadczenie z materiałami, dużą skalą, pracą w zespole, zadaniem wykonanym w wyznaczonym terminie/czasie. Udział w takich realizacjach daje studentom możliwość skonfrontowania własnego projektu z realizacją. Pomaga poszerzyć wiedzę o zagadnienia związane z informacją wizualną, zapoznać się z projektowaniem przestrzeni o charakterze wystawienniczym (rozwiązania przestrzenne wspomagane przez kolor i grafikę).
Didactics in practice. Theory versus practice, exhibition activitie. The article presents the methodology and results of the design and research process conducted with students during the construction of the exhibition stand during the 4DD Days exhibition. The aim of the task was to implement an exhibition - multi-layered exposition, which included the artistic creation of the exhibition itself and the creation of an exhibition space on a specific area. Thanks to the Design thinking method, students created a prototype of an exhibition element realized at the fair. The didactic aim was to familiarize students with the real challenges: experience with materials, large scale, team work, tasks completed within the prescribed period / time. Participation in such projects allows students to confront their own project with the implementation. It helps to broaden the knowledge of issues related to visual information, to become familiar with the design of exhibition spaces (spatial solutions supported by color and graphics).

Th e article analyses opportunities and possibilities for synthesis of theory and practice in training of andragogues for vocational activity. Th ese opportunities disclose themselves in vocational practice of students, studying in the programme of Andragogy. Th e modern approach to relationship of theory and practice in studies supposes their unity, though coming into confl ict in the study process sometimes. It is to be emphasized that theoretical and practical training remains to be the components of an integral process. Th ey are linked into the aggregate of diff erent and complementing experiences, which becomes evident in the process of practice. It is the refl ective study model, successfully employed in vocational practice that creates conditions for application of available theoretical knowledge and practical skills in specifi c working situations, gaining of abilities and experience that are necessary for future vocational activity. Th e accomplished empiric research showed the students’ approach to the unity of theory and practice in vocational activity. It also gives evaluation to the expedience of practice for the future vocational activity of andragogues. In the process of practice the respondents disclosed diff erent aspects in employment of theoretical and practical knowledge in practical situations. Th e research also highlighted the merits and demerits of vocational practice in the process of andragogic studies, which enables the department of Andragogy to check once again the quality of implemented studies, to make corrections in the study programme and take it closer to demands of the changing situation. Th eoretical and empiric analysis enabled to ground opportunities and possibilities for the synthesis of theory and practice in the process of studies and training of andragogues for practical activity.

Drawing on the work of Ricoeur, this paper contributes to theorisation of the organisational field in understanding of how structural power operates through professional langue in shaping a construction of individual judgement in professional service firms. As Ricoeur argued that judicial sense may be envisaged as one of the best examples of hermeneutic application (1991: 493), I explore practitioners’ sense making and their interaction with the surrounding structures and its discourse, learned and assimilated during the formative years in the context of audit practice. The interviews-based story provides an illustration of (1) the processes of socialisation that are geared towards conceptions of what constitutes professional best practice, where the professional learns to use judgement and follow structure in particular ways (a perpetuated myth of best practice), and (2) the effects of such formation on the working process. The paper contributes insights into organisational theory in areas of negotiating a balance between institutional requirements (structural conditioning of professional epistemology) and technical demands of hermeneutic function (purposive expert activities) in decision making process. The paper concludes that practitioners assume the appearance of professionalism by adopting a particular professional langue where judgement becomes normative in its own terms. These re-production processes in accordance with organisational frames of references for action may be in opposition to the decisional autonomy, where there may be a space for simultaneously creating (agency) and sharing (structure) on the job. The study reveals that professional langue itself is a place of prejudice and bias on the job.

The current concern for assessing the quality of psychological research and research institutions should be accompanied by an equal concern for proper criteria to assess the quality of psychological practice and of practitioner education. The criteria of evaluating both research and practice should be grounded on solid psychological theories.

This study aims to explore teachers’ peer feedback behaviour in online teaching practice classes. Qualitative research was conducted on 32 physics teachers who conducted a teacher professional curriculum. Data were gathered through interviews, observations, and online discourse archives. Six steps were taken in analysing the data: preparing and organising data, exploring data, developing themes, representing findings, interpreting findings, and validating the accuracy of the findings. The results showed that peer feedback behaviour focused on learning design content and teachers’ performance. Peer feedback connects teachers’ ideas with those of their colleagues, open-mindedness, and encourages reflective thinking. This study realises peer feedback is a mutual dialogue to enhance teachers’ pedagogical competence in teacher professional curricula.

The authors of the article attempt to expand the discourse on curatorial practices in the field of performing arts by introducing the notion of shared room. By making reference to their own experience in curating, they create a metaphor which serves both as a tool for describing the precarious position of curators and for designing alternative strategies of doing this work based on the ideas of solidarity, relationality and sharing. In the first part the authors present their understanding of curatorial practice situating it in the context of those definitions of curating that they recognise as dominating in the Polish context. The second part of the article deals with four aspects of the shared room metaphor: its relational ontology; the precarious condition of its inhabitants; the strategies of sharing employed in it; and the reproductive work done in it and understood as creative practice.

Theoretical framework within which this paper is set is the conception of teachers’ epistemological beliefs. The author’s attention is focused on the classification of teachers’ beliefs in the realistic, contextual and relativistic approach. The question that permeates this study is whether the teacher’s beliefs are consistent with their work in practice. A questionnaire was made for the purpose of the research and the sample encompasses 420 teachers in Serbia. Results show that the subjects mostly estimate that they belong to a constructivist profile. However, their answers indicate that their acting is different from their self-assessment. Research findings imply a need for an awakening of teachers with regards to personal epistemologies.

Taking a practice theoretical approach and building on the research conducted with a group of people who live their lives on the streets of two Polish cities, this paper provides an account of the homeless city dwellers’ mode of emplacement. It offers the terms licensed, invisible, motile, material, relational, affective, and ad hoc mooring to describe how homeless people establish a place of and for various activities that make up their everyday practice of inhabiting the city. While highlighting the accomplishments of homeless places, the paper also underscores their tentativeness and instability. It situates the homeless mode of emplacement within a wider landscape of normative urban geography, against which the ways homeless people establish themselves in place are often judged out-of-place. It attends to the role that this transgressive potential plays in limiting homeless dwellers’ capabilities for mooring and considers how they might be enhanced.

Today, international migration is one of the main factors that determine functioning of families. Transnational families and transnational parenting are becoming increasingly more common and have been gaining considerable interest of researchers and social practitioners. One perspective that may be useful for examining transnational families is the practice-based approach. The concepts put forward by Morgan and Finch (‘doing’ and ‘displaying’ family) help to analyse families not as structures, but as everyday practices which constitute them (Morgan) and which must be associated with a system of meanings to be displayed (Finch). In the article, the analysis of transnational family practices will focus on the ‘tools’ for displaying (Finch) that are characteristic of transnational family life, and it will be based on the results of Polish and international studies. The article will discuss the tools proposed by Finch, such as physical objects or the use of narratives, as well as the use of technology in communication and taking care of children, as these practices are specific to transnational families. Those ‘tools’ for displaying show that transnational families are flexible, they are constantly happening, and by being embedded in broader systems of meanings, they become acceptable.

This paper explores effective uses of technology in teaching with a focus on a case study of English Language Learning (ELL) at a Moroccan university. A review of literature reveals a wide variety of pedagogical practices that are recommended by theory and implemented in practice. These theories and practices describe a spectrum of activities ranging from “traditional” practices that develop specific skills at a similar pace and with a high level of teacher monitoring to “emerging” practices that emphasize independent learning, collaboration, and project- or group-based tasks that assist students in becoming life-long learners and users of technology. The case study focuses on grammar courses in which these Moroccan students improve their knowledge of English grammar in order to be prepared to use English at the academic level. The results reveal that grammar teachers employ a variety of pedagogical practices in their use of the CALL but the majority tends toward “tutorial” or “traditional” approach whereas some of the practices employ the “authentic materials engagement” or “computer-mediated communication” approach as identified in the literature review. Students, when asked what they would do differently if they were the teacher, often identified practices that would be consistent with the emerging practice paradigm even if they had not been exposed to that kind of CALL practice.

Aim/purpose - The purpose of this paper is to clarify the certification process of the Good Clinical Practice (GCP) competencies based on a comparison with the project management (PM) certification process. This aim was accomplished by model development. Originality/value/contribution - The paper raises research topics at the crossroads of project management, clinical trials, and GCP, topics that have been underdeveloped so far. The results might be significant for all organizations involved in conducting clinical research projects. The findings contribute to the quality of clinical trials and provide public assurance that the rights, safety, and well-being of trial subjects are protected and the clinical trial data are credible. Design/methodology/approach - The study was divided into three main phases: 1st phase - the identification of key characteristics of PM and GCP certification processes, 2nd phase - the development of certification models for PM and GCP, 3rd phase - the conclusions from in-depth interviews. Findings - As a result of the research, key characteristics of PM and GCP certification processes were identified, certification models for PM and GCP were developed. In addition, based on conclusions from in-depth interviews, solutions for organizing the way of confirming knowledge of GCP guidelines were proposed. Research implications/limitations - The proposed rules may be too complex and may exceed the needs and expectations of the clinical trial environment. The models focus on stakeholder relations, without the rules of certification granting procedures, to enable broader contextualization of the issues discussed in the paper. The analysis might be fragmented as it regards the sole certification process. The research refers to Poland only, hence it will be valuable to identify whether foreign authorities have the same attitude to the GCP competency certification model. It is recommended to increase the number of respondents' interviews to obtain results of higher validity and reliability.

While heavy stress loads seem an unavoidable aspect of entrepreneurship, the positive side of stress (often referred to as ‘eustress’) remains a neglected area of research. This paper contributes to entrepreneurship research by linking the research streams of eustress and reflective practice. As a tool for analysing and developing thoughts and actions, reflective practice plays an important role in the interpretative work essential to positive stress experiences. Following an overview of approaches to stress at work, eustress and reflective practice, the paper explores how entrepreneurs experience the role of positive stress and reflective practice in their work and describes the reflective tools utilized by entrepreneurs in promoting eustress. The research process was designed to support reflective dialogue among the 21 Finnish entrepreneurs from different fields who participated in the study, with results based mainly on qualitative interviews. Nine of the interviewed entrepreneurs also kept a positive stress diary, including a three-day physiological measurement analysing their heartbeat variability. The findings suggest that positive stress and reflective practice are intertwined in the experiences of entrepreneurs and illustrate the role of reflective practice as a crucial toolset for promoting positive stress, comprising six reflective tools: studying oneself, changing one’s point of view, putting things into perspective, harnessing a feeling of trust, regulating resources and engaging in dialogue. Individual reflective capabilities vary, and a theory-driven division of reflective practice into individual, social and contextual dimensions is considered useful in understanding those differences. The research offers a starting point for exploring how eustress and reflective practice affect the well-being of entrepreneurs.

Odkryliśmy to, że, z konkretnych przyczyn i z pomocą konkretnych środków, analityka ta nie tylko tworzyła wskazaną koncepcję, ale i dążyła do zbudowania wokół niej pancerza żelaznej niezaprzeczalności, który nie dopuszcza ani wariantów, ani sprzeciwów, obowiązującego wszystkich pancerza wyjątkowości. Zniszczywszy ten pancerz, dekonstrukcja otwiera możliwość innych decyzji i innych dróg.
Existencial analytics is unquestionably a major and profound conception of constitution or of death in European thought for many centuries. We tried not only to present its structure, but made her deconstruction, in the most constructive purpose. We found that, for certain reasons and with the help of specific measures, the analyst is not only created the concept indicated, but also sought to build around her repudiation of the iron armor, which does not allow or variants, or objections, applicable to all armor uniqueness. Having destroyed the armor, deconstruction opens up the possibility of other decisions and other roads.

The article deals with teaching and researching stage speech on the supposition that researching stage speech influences how we teach stage speech. Stage speech is an artistic speech that researchers try to study and explain in a scientific manner, i.e. with scientific terminology and methods. Modern studies of stage speech are interdisciplinary (they combine phonetics and theatre studies, literary theory and history, sociology, etc.) and no longer just studies on a stricly linguistic (phonetic) level. The article shows a model of a scientific and interdisciplinary study of stage speech and its influence on or connection to how it is taught. The teaching of stage speech, which is shown on the example of students of Stage Acting at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television, balances between science and art as well as between theory and practice. The article demonstrates that researching stage speech influences the teaching that is also interdisciplinary, based on artistic and scientific concepts and constantly combines theory and practice.

The paper deals with application of soft-skills competence in practice comparing of education and employers requirements. In addition to what a graduate is to know in terms of the knowledge theoretically acquired, the labour market today defines quite clearly the specific requirements in terms of what a graduate should be able to do, provide for, organize, including the demands related to their competences. The purpose of the paper is to assess the ethical credibility of selected subjects in the field of soft skills based on the analysis and conclusions of research conducted in 2018-2019 at the Technical University in Zvolen. The method of questionnaire survey was chosen for the execution of the research. The paper presents the results of the selected area research of soft-skills, which showed the most significant differences – stress resistance. To evaluate the results was used the Mann-Whitney test of significance which is an especially appropriate test for two independent and randomly selected sets of sample observations. At the end of paper are proposed recommendations for improving teaching in accordance with the requirements of practice.

In Germany, social work has long been more than what it was originally intended to be; it is more than an emergency support provided outside the school and family. Its fields of practice have changed over time, and analysis of those historical changes show that social work has become a constituent part of the welfare state’s basic provisions and developed a pool of pro-fessional knowledge, while its practitioners have spread into an ever more specialised array of fields. Social work has normalised into a service which modern societies need for their devel-opment and integration. As the welfare state developed its modern influence, occupations in the social sector have become part of the social infrastructure, even if market mechanisms and competition are gradually exerting greater influence in those fields of practice. However, in times of scarcity and global change, the fields of social work practice also face other chal-lenges.

Literatura zna przypadki wspólnot praktyki informatyków uczestniczących w e-biznesie, lekarzy udzielających usługi pacjentom na odległość, samoistnie tworzących się wspólnot użytkowników jakiejś technologii, marki sprzętu lub oprogramowania. Brakuje badań dotyczących zachowań wspólnot zawodowych dyscyplin technicznych, szczególnie tych angażujących się w handel i użytkujących usługi udostępniane w sieci internet. Niniejszy artykuł jest próbą określenia form uczestnictwa przedstawicieli dyscyplin technicznych w e-biznesie zarówno w zamkniętych i zintegrowanych sieciach korporacyjnych, jak i otwartych i rozległych połączonych z siecią Internet. Na tym tle pojawiają się pytania o etyczne uczestnictwo przedstawicieli tych wspólnot w specyficznych zadaniach wymagających korzystania z handlu elektronicznego i komunikacji elektronicznej.
Communities of practice are a particular form of communities which are bound by common work, ends and mission. There are communities of practice of computer scientists who participate in e-business, of doctors who render e-services to their patients, of self-organizing communities of particular technology practitioners, brands or software. There is no descriptive research concerning the behaviours of members of communities of practice, particularly those of technical disciplines who are engaged in trade and use Internet services. Th is article attempts to delineate forms of participation of members of technical communities in e-business including closed integrated corporate networks and open wide area networks integrated with the Internet. This poses questions of their ethical participation in specifi c tasks which require use of electronic communication and e-commerce.

/Review: Poul Andersen, The Paradox of Being: Truth, Identity, and Images in Daoism (Leiden, The Netherlands: Harvard University Asia Center, 2019), 362 pages./ Philosophy tends to approach Daoism in degrees. One may be introduced to the Dao de Jing of Laozi and appreciate the poetic structure and appreciate the virtues of non-coercive action. When one next encounters the writings of Zhuangzi, one is struck by the difference in style, the humor, and often the difficulty in penetrating the meaning of many passages. This is frequently contrasted with Confucian philosophy. The vocabulary, upon first examination appears similar but upon further reading one discovers that not only do these traditions use shared terminology in different way but that their views of reality is stark. This is much more so with the French existentialists and yet Poul Andersen finds sympathetic understanding between Daoism and “philosophies of existence” with regards to the concept of being. Those familiar with the Dao de Jing can probably cite passages that Andersen will address as it is unmistakable in Daoism that being is said to come from and depend on non-being. The existentialist tradition has meditated on questions of being and so Andersen’s aim is to undertake an exploration of being in Daoism informed by existentialist methodology. This review seeks to emphasize the case studies Andersen utilizes in his research. While his methodological approach is informed by existentialist philosophers, his decades of research in Chinese religions provides much of the substance throughout.

This paper is about the lives of some working class women and men who chose to return to learn, as adults, in further and higher education in the UK (I need to explain that further education colleges are post-compulsory institutions which deliver academic and vocational courses). Although the focus is on research undertaken in the UK I hope that the voices, experiences, struggles and achievements of the participants in this paper will have resonance and relevance for you here in Poland. The stories are drawn from several research projects which looked at the access, learning experiences and learning identities of working class adults in educational environments which, particularly in the case of higher education, may seem daunting culturally – a different community to the communities where they live and have known. How are these differences resolved? How do they cope in these two contrasting spaces and keep on going on? What impact does learning have on their classed and gendered, and for some, raced identities and communities? These issues are discussed within the context of the UK’s lifelong learning policy.

Health psychology was founded as a response to social needs for better understanding and regulation of psychological aspects of biological, mental, and social well-being. Despite initial enthusiasm and optimism in its early days, three decades of development yielded results that are disappointing to many scholars in terms of health psychology practical meaning. Thus, in this paper we review several challenges for health psychology. We believe that health psychology might benefit from revival of aims and values that distinguished the discipline at its onset such as bio-psycho-social perspective that has been narrowed to somatic illness in recent days. Second, more integration is needed in theory and terminology to eliminate overlapping concepts labeled with different names. Furthermore, social practice would benefit from greater responsiveness of health psychologists to new technologies. Finally, health psychology is likely to derive benefits from more general well-established perspectives on diffusion of innovation in social practice. We conclude that health psychology as a practice-related scientific discipline is likely to regain its initial momentum once these problems are solved and novel areas of scientific exploration are identified.

In the last 60 years, the number of Muslims in the Netherlands has increased considerably from 300 to more than 827,000. Immigration, in particular from Turkey and Morocco, was the main cause. In the same time period, Dutch society was secularising to a large extent. About 60% of the Dutch population is no longer affiliated with a religion. This paper focus on two questions. Is the Muslim population secularising as well? Is a Muslim religious identity hindering integration in, or identification with, (secular or Christian) Dutch society? To answer these questions, the results of recent surveys, both on the national and on the local (Amsterdam) level, have been analysed after considering existing theories on secularisation and immigrant integration. The results show that after initial indications of secularisation, there is no secularisation among Muslims of Turkish and Moroccan origin in the last decade ; mosque attendance by the second generation has actually increased. Existing theories on secularisation, such as the classical secularisation paradigm and market theories can not explain these developments, perhaps with the exception of the theory of existential security. Also assimilation theories do not prove to be valid. It appears that there is a continuing religious vitality among these immigrant groups as a consequence of socialisation in immigrant families and communities with relatively strong intra-group ties. Also the possibility of a kind of “reactive religiosity” in confrontation with an increasing public hostility towards Islam cannot be excluded. Concerning the second research question, there proved to be a positive correlation between religious identification (with Islam) and ethno-national identification (with the country of origin), which could hinder integration in, and identification with, Dutch national society. However, it does not hinder identification with the local (Amsterdam) society, which is relatively strong and functions as a “ bridging identity ” with the national society.

This paper attempts to explore how Slovak learners of English use electronic dictionaries with regard to pronunciation practice and improvement. A total of 24 Slovak university students (subjects) completed a questionnaire which contained pronunciation-related questions in connection with the use of electronic dictionaries. The questions primarily concerned electronic editions of monolingual learner’s dictionaries, dictionaries intended for native speakers, and specialized (special-purpose) pronunciation dictionaries. The main objective of this small-scale study was to identify the frequency, manner, and types of electronic dictionaries used by the subjects in order to practice and improve their pronunciation. The findings indicate that the subjects of the study use electronic dictionaries for pronunciation practice relatively often, learner’s dictionaries being the most preferred choice. The study also recommends that EFL learners exploit the pronunciation conveniences of electronic dictionaries extensively.

In a follow-up to Ryszard Nycz’s work Culture as Verb this article outlines a new way of bringing forward his great project. The challenge it has to face is the cognitive dilemma that lurks at the intersection of the humanities and the sciences, or, in other words, the dissonance between the traditional paradigm of accumulating and developing the store of cultural knowledge and cognitive procedures that underpin new, experimental and inductive knowledge with a potential to effect qualitative change. The article contends that Nycz’s study allows us to bypass that dilemma. The ‘Third Way’, as it is called here, would open up new forms of innovation, i.e. not just knowledge whose value is determined by its utility for the systems of late capitalism, but a mode of concrete practice of rediscovering the outer world for the humanities. In the process of capturing and transforming of that world, the metaphors of embodied labour and of knowledge production (conceptualized as the verb) function as extraordinarily important tools of the humanities reinvented as a practical, embodied theory.

Background: In the work of a physician, not only knowledge, and professional skills (technical/hard) are important, but also psychosocial skills (relational/soft). Objectives: The primary goal of the presented research was evaluation of the level (study of the state) of communication competences of physicians and determination of the factors on which this level depends. An additional goal was analysis of the needs and educational possibilities within the existing models of education in the area of interpersonal communication provided in Medical Universities in Poland. Design, setting and participants: Information about educational curricula available on the websites of 12 Medical Universities in Poland were compared. The self-designed questionnaire and adjective check list were subject to standardization from the aspect of reliability and validity. The study groups included 1) occupationally-active physicians (185 respondents) employed in outpatient departments and hospitals, who were covered by a pre-graduate standard educational programme and not trained in interpersonal communication skills as part of their continuing education; 2) medical students covered by a standard educational programme (246 respondents). Results: The conducted analysis of the educational curricula showed a very narrow scope of problems concerning professional medical communication. The results indicating the general state of respondents’ communication competences within all aspects (motivation, skills, knowledge) were relatively low. That clearly indicated an inadequate educational model (students), and lack of post-graduate training in the area of professional medical communication (physicians). Conclusions: The education of students of medicine should cover selected classes within the scope of professional communication competences. These classes should be based on the systemically designed training of skills. The patterning by students of the relations attitudes observed in practising physicians is insufficient. It is necessary to apply a methodical evaluation of communication competences, diagnosing educational needs of occupationally active physicians in this respect. This allows the preparation of courses in accordance with the needs in the area of professional communication competences.

Opis:
Communities of practice (CoPs) highlight the personal foundation upon which relationships are formed, disregarding geographical, functional boundaries or unit constrictions, but instead by the tasks, contexts and work interests in action. It represents how individuals perform their jobs on daily basis contrary to the formal policies operated. CoPs are claimed to be effectual organisations for knowledge creation versus their former counterpart. The concept that facilitates the co-operation within groups; social capital allows access to the information and knowledge shared by others. An entity’s action is a critical part in understanding the dynamics of the exchange or combination of intellectual capital resulting in understanding organisational learning process. The purpose of the paper is to demonstrate the link between CoPs and social capital, in an attempt to justify why certain networks are more prosperous compared to others.

Paraneoplastic syndromes consist of disorders that accompany benign and malignant tumours, but are not directly related to mass effects or invasion by the primary tumour or its metastases. The pathophysiology of mostly paraneoplastic syndromes is not well known. The usual mechanism of their development is the aberrant production of substances (protein hormones, hormone precursors or hormone-like substances) by tumour tissue or autoimmune disorder. The neurological paraneoplastic syndromes are autoimmune disorders that can affect almost any part of the nervous system. The endocrine paraneoplastic syndromes are often certain clinical syndromes like paraneoplastic hypercalcaemia or the aberrant production of hormones by cancers. Many haematologic conditions, including anaemia, leucocytosis, thrombocytopenia or thrombocytosis, coagulapathy have been reported in association with cancer. Also paraneoplastic rheumatic syndromes have been reported in association of cancer. Skin can be involved in cancer in different ways: by metastases, as a part of a genetic disorder with a cutaneous component in which there is an inherited predisposition to the later development of malignancy, as a part of an acquired syndrome due to the toxicity of a carcinogen that induces malignant change and accompanying skin changes, as a consequence of immunosuppression, or by the development of specific lesions that occur as a paraneoplastic syndromes The most frequently diagnosed dermatologic conditions include acrokeratosis paraneoplastica, Sweet’s syndrome and paraneoplastic pemphigus. The purpose of this article is to describe the most popular in internal clinical practice neurologic, endocrine, haematologic, rheumatologic and dermatologic paraneoplastic syndromes associated with cancer.

The article explores some of the ways in which work placement that accompanies or follows academic instruction may contribute to stimulating trainee translators’ professional development. Inspired by general and profession-specific concepts and components of expertise proposed by researchers in the field of cognitive sciences and translation studies as well as her own experience as a translator, translation trainer, and work placement mentor, the author presents some of her observations and preliminary highlights of her ongoing research to emphasise how individualised support for trainees’ conscious effort in the course of work placement in a translation company may help novice translators hone their skills and at the same time assume responsibility for their own development, thus empowering them and setting them on track to become experts. In her considerations, the author refers to the minimal concept of translation expertise propounded by Muñoz Martín (2014) and to the notion of deliberate practice as posited by Ericsson et al. (1993) to propose how deliberate practice may be implemented as one of the significant elements of translation work placement in a student-centred course of learning, where various aspects of the actual workplace setting contribute to increased readiness for conscious effort in trainees. This paper may prove of use to translator trainers as well as work placement mentors/coordinators, both on the part of the academic institution, and within the organisation accepting trainees, when they shape or revise their curricula or work placement agendas.

Opis:
Force Technology has been working intensively with trim optimisation tests for almost last 10 years. Focus has primarily been put on the possible power savings and exhaust gases reduction. This paper describes the trim optimisation process for a large cargo vessel. The physics behind changed propulsive power is described and the analyses in order to elaborate the optimum trimmed conditions are presented. Different methods for prediction of required power in trimmed conditions are presented and results are compared against each other. The methods with their advantages and disadvantages are discussed. On the basis of power prediction, a trim guidance with dedicated SeaTrim® software for ship master is made and presented.

W artykule zaproponowano praktyczny podział przedsiębiorstw budowlanych na 4 podstawowe grupy oraz wyróżniono 5 grup zagadnień, w obrębie których najczęściej występują problemy w zarządzaniu przedsiębiorstwem budowlanym, a następnie omówiono problemy zarządzania dla wyróżnionych grup przedsiębiorstw. Sformułowano zalecenia, które pomogą wyeliminować powstanie ewentualnych problemów w obrębie poszczególnych zagadnień.
The way in which a construction enterprise is managed depends on numerous factors. Above all it depends on the size of an enterprise and, what follows, on the character of enterprise ownership as well as the scope and nature of the tasks performed. The present paper proposes a practical division of construction enterprises into four basic groups and distinguishes between five groups of issues within which construction enterprise management problems occur most often. Next, the paper discusses management problems for the groups of enterprises indicated above. It also offers solutions that may help to eliminate possible problems within particular issues.

The congregation of the Benedictine nuns of Sandomierz, active between 1615 and 1903, belonged to wealthy magnatial foundations, which allowed the convent to foster cultural activities. Special emphasis was placed on musical performance of various types - the musical adornment of the liturgy. The ‘Glory of God’, as Benedictine nuns referred to it, constituted the essence of their congregational life. On weekdays, the celebration of the Liturgy of the Hours, Masses and - occasionally - other services in choir took six hours, and on numerous feast days of the liturgical year, when the Liturgy of the Hours was sung, not read, it required even more time. The higher the rank of the feast day, the greater was the effort to stress its importance by providing it with a proper musical setting, which led to the cultivation of musical practices of various kinds on special occasions. The musical repertory of the Sandomierz Benedictine nuns comprised plainchant without instrumental accompaniment, plainchant with organ accompaniment, polyphonic a cappella singing (referred to as ‘figure’), vocal instrumental music (‘fractus’) and instrumental music. A picture of religious musical practice emerges primarily from extant musical sources, and also from a ‘choir agenda’ from 1749, a convent chronicle of the years 1762-1780, ‘treasury records’ from 1739-1806 and convent registers. Eighteenth-century sources document the musical activity of twenty-four nuns of the Sandomierz convent, some of them considered to be ‘professional’ musicians and referred to as ‘singers and players’. The most interesting, but also most problematic, areas are vocal instrumental practice and the likely consitution of the nuns’ music chapel. We find information about nuns playing keyboard instruments, violin, viola da gamba, tromba marina and horn.

The article presents the process of applying the Austrian matrimonial property law in Poland based on the example of the interwar notary practice in Krakow. The subject of the analysis are the marital property agreements, which, in accordance with the legal provisions of the time, were mandatory and took the form of a notary deed. Based on the content of those contracts, an attempt was made to answer the question of whether and to what extent the marital property law included in ABGB affected the shape of the matrimonial property relations of the spouses. The analysis focused in particular on the legal functioning of such notions as dowry, hope chest, bride price, dower or contract of inheritance.

Despite the increasing popularity of the concepts known as person-centered care and the holistic approach, their implementation in real life is far from optimal. Patients’ priorities, preferences, and values are still too often neglected. The tendency to measure the outcomes of primary care just in terms of avoiding hospital admissions, reducing health care costs, and increasing adherence to treatment can cause problems and create distortion. Guidelines are too focused on single diseases and not patient-focused. Most guidelines have a “one-size-fits-all” mentality and do not build flexibility or contextualization into their recommendations. Quality indicators should be used with caution and wisdom, especially in primary care, as they are mainly related to a few common chronic diseases and this is not conducive to recognizing the vast range of health problems of our patients. Quality indicators can be useful as a starting point for discussions about quality in primary care but not all the data that we have in our electronic clinical records can be used to derive good quality indicators and they cannot reflect the broad scope of primary care. Some core values are difficult to measure because doctors and nurses are pushed to spend too much time on the registration and administration of the required data rather than dedicate this time to the actual care of the patient. Person-centered health care is certainly one the visions of primary care and primary care doctors need to step up and lead the change. Rural primary care doctors, who traditionally adopt a less biomedical and more holistic approach than their urban counterparts, could become the pioneers in the implementation of this process.

Introduction: At the beginning of the 21st century, older adults have become another group with special educational needs, not only because of their social and neuropsychological conditions, but also because of the growing number of people aged 60+. One of the fields that responds to those needs is foreign language geragogy. Research Aim: The aim of the paper is to draw attention to retrieval practice (RP) strategy as an applicable method in teaching languages to older adults for maintaining their cognitive skills and to suggest some concrete solutions of the RP implementation in the language education. Method: This study is of a theoretical-conceptual nature. The literature review was conducted in the fields of neurological and psychological characteristics of third-agers, as well as with reference to RP experiences in teaching children and teenagers. Own two-stages research focused on lecturers’ perspective explored through online surveys and a group interview. Results: The RP strategy is an educational need reported by late L2 learners and their teachers. Due to its proven neurocognitive support of people aged 60+, the strategy is a valuable method of working with older adults. Results have allowed for proposing an applicable aspect. A few RP language practice models were offered as a tool facilitating learning, which is a novelty as for many years it was behind the interests of researchers and practitioners working with thirdagers. Conclusion: The RP strategy is a technique worthy of attention because of the goals accompanying language learning in older age, such as cognitive development, supporting memory processes and maintaining social contacts. The use of RP strategies in language exercises allows to diversify the process of language education in a way that is adequate to the late L2 learners’ potential. All of these factors are undoubtedly crucial in the context of seniors’ well-being. This allows us to conclude that the benefits of language learning can have a holistic dimension for older adults, as long as the learning is carried out using appropriate methods. 
Wprowadzenie: Na początku XXI w. seniorzy stali się kolejną grupą o specyficznych potrzebach edukacyjnych nie tylko z uwagi na uwarunkowania społeczne i neuropsychologiczne, ale też z powodu rosnącej liczebności osób w wieku 60+. Jedną z subdyscyplin reagujących na te okoliczności jest geragogika języków obcych. Cel badań: Celem artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na strategię retrieval practice (RP) jako metodę odpowiednią w kształceniu językowym seniorów i utrzymywaniu ich zdolności poznawczych, jak również zaproponowanie ćwiczeń wdrażających strategię RP do edukacji językowej. Metoda badań: Opracowanie ma charakter teoretyczno-koncepcyjny. Dokonano przeglądu literatury z zakresu neurologicznej i psychologicznej charakterystyki starszych dorosłych oraz – w odniesieniu do strategii RP – w obszarze nauczania dzieci i młodzieży. Dwuetapowe ba dania własne koncentrowały się na perspektywie wykładowców, którą zweryfikowano poprzez ankiety online oraz wywiad grupowy. Wyniki: Strategia RP – z uwagi na udowodnione wsparcie neurokognitywne osób w wieku 60+ – jest wartościową metodą pracy ze starszymi dorosłymi, a także potrzebą dydaktyczną zgłaszaną przez tę grupę uczących się oraz ich lektorów. Wyniki pozwoliły na przedstawienie aspektu aplikacyjnego – sposobów włączenia RP do nauczania języka obcego w okresie późnej dorosłości. Zaproponowano kilka modeli ćwiczeń opartych na RP jako narzędzi ułatwiających edukację językową seniorów. Są to nowatorskie propozycje, ponieważ przez wiele lat strategia RP pozostawała poza zainteresowaniami badaczy i praktyków geragogiki języków obcych. Wnioski: Strategia RP jest techniką wartą uwagi ze względu na cele towarzyszące nauce języka w wieku dojrzałym, takie jak rozwój poznawczy, wspomaganie procesów pamięciowych oraz utrzymywanie kontaktów społecznych. Zastosowanie strategii RP w ćwiczeniach językowych pozwala na urozmaicenie procesu edukacji językowej w sposób adekwatny do potencjału uczących się. Wszystkie te czynniki są kluczowe w kontekście dobrostanu seniorów. Korzyści z nauki języka obcego mogą mieć dla starszych dorosłych wymiar holistyczny, jeśli tylko nauka ta będzie prowadzona odpowiednimi metodami.

Wysoce zakaźny wirus SARS-CoV-2, który może powodować ciężką chorobę układu oddechowego znaną jako COVID-19, jest obecnie krytycznym wyzwaniem dla praktyki kontaktologicznej: optometrycznej i okulistycznej. Pandemia ewoluuje, a jej wpływ na zdrowie publiczne jest znaczący oraz progresywny i będzie skutkować ogromnymi zmianami gospodarczymi i społecznymi. W czasach koronawirusa praktyka kontaktologiczna niewątpliwie staje się trudniejsza. Należy przestrzegać zasad bezpieczeństwa oraz postawić na personalizację procedur oraz oferowanych rozwiązań korekcji wad wzroku i terapii widzenia. Warto podkreślić, że badanie okulistyczne i optometryczne przeprowadzone zgodnie z zasadami epidemiologicznymi nie jest obarczone zwiększonym ryzykiem zakażenia SARS-CoV-2.
The highly contagious virus SARS-CoV-2 that causes the serious respiratory disease COVID-19 has posed a tremendous challenge to our daily optometric and ophthalmologic contact lens practice. The pandemic is still evolving. Its impact on public health has been significant and intensified and will result in significant economic and social changes. In the time of coronavirus, contactology is undoubtedly becoming more difficult. We should focus on both safety and the personalization of procedures and solutions that are offered to correct vision defects. Nevertheless, we should remember that ophthalmologic and optometric tests that are performed in accordance with epidemiological guidelines are not associated with a higher risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Innowacja pracownicza jest efektem uczenia się w trakcie i dzięki pracy. Kluczowym elementem procesu uczenia się transformacyjnego jest krytyczna refleksja. Umiejętność i skłonność do refleksji w pracy nie jest powszechna. Zbudowanie nawyku krytycznej refleksji wymaga akceptacji, umiejętności, korzystnych uwarunkowań organizacyjnych i praktyki. Narzędzia wspomagające uczenie się refleksyjne, nawet rodzajowo podobne, nie są ekwiwalentnymi katalizatorami innowacyjności pracowniczej.
Practice-based innovation is an outcome of workplace learning processes. Critical reflection is considered as the critical component of transformative learning process. Disposition and ability to reflection in work cannot be considered as a natural state. Developing a habit of critical reflection requires acceptance, skills, favourable organizational conditions, and practice. Reflective learning facilitators, even generically similar, are not equivalent as practice-based innovation catalysts.

Głównym celem tekstu jest scharakteryzowanie założeń oryginalnej praktyki prawniczej opartej na współpracy, określanej zazwyczaj mianem Collaborative Law. Dla realizacji przyjętego zadania w toku rozważań podjęto takie zagadnienia jak: 1) istota, zasady oraz ograniczenia pomocy prawnej, świadczonej w ramach Collaborative Law; 2) wybrane cechy praktyki prawniczej opartej na współpracy w ramach Collaborative Law; 3) główne różnice i podobieństwa pomiędzy Collaborative Law a mediacją. W podsumowanie zidentyfikowano preferowane kompetencje prawników świadczących pomoc prawną w ramach Collaborative Law, główne zalety takiej praktyki oraz istotne kwestie (w tym dylematy) etyczne, które mogą pojawić się podczas Collaborative Lawyering.
The main aim of the paper is to characterize the assumptions of the original legal practice based on cooperation, usually referred to as collaborative law. In order to achieve this goal, the author considers the following issues: 1) the essence, principles and limitations of collaborative law; 2) selected features of collaborative practice; 3) the main differences and similarities between collaborative law and mediation. The conclusion of the article identifies the preferred competences of lawyers who practice collaborative law, the main advantages of such practice, and the important ethical issues (including dilemmas) that may arise during collaborative lawyering.

The Japanese legal system has been radically changed after the Meiji Restoration. Moreover, after the unconditional surrender of Japan, the American law has been partially adopted. The law sources in Japan are – first and foremost – acts, or customary law, such as trade or regional practices. A particular role in the Japanese legal system is played by precedents. The author analyses the precedent issues in the context of the judicial discretion and explains the nature of its exceptionally broad scope. Furthermore, the article examines the process related to applying analogy (per analogiam reasoning) by courts as a possible manner of law development.
Japoński system prawny radykalnie zmienił się po rewolucji Meiji, a po bezwarunkowej kapitulacji – częściowo przez przyjęcie prawa amerykańskiego. Źródłami prawa w Japonii są przede wszystkim ustawy, a także prawo zwyczajowe, takie jak zwyczaje handlowe lub regionalne. Szczególną rolę w japońskim systemie prawa odgrywają precedensy. Autor analizuje problematykę precedensów w kontekście dyskrecjonalności sędziowskiej i wyjaśnia, dlaczego ma ona tak szeroki zakres. Ponadto w artykule wskazano na proces związany ze stosowaniem analogii przez sądy jako możliwy sposób rozwoju prawa.

The article is an attempt to reflect on the current tasks faced by clinical psychology as a field of science and practice. These tasks stem from the constant need to improve the scientific level of this discipline and to solve problems connected with intensive social changes. We have considered the issues of globalization and the challenges it implies for clinical psychology, presenting selected theories of globalization and the patterns of reaction to these changes. We see evidence-based practice in psychology as a reflection of these transformations in science and clinical practice. In the article, we discuss the positive influence of this approach on the improvement of assessment practice standards and psychotherapy effectiveness, drawing attention to some negative consequences of universalization, particularly those that threaten human agency. Addressing and responding to these challenges requires close cooperation of researchers and practitioners, which was called for at the 1st National Clinical Psychology Conference in 2014.

W niniejszym artykule zamierzam odnieść się do polskich doświadczeń w zakresie stosowania AC, porównując je z badaniami przeprowadzonymi w Europie Zachodniej i Ameryce Północnej przez Dianę E. Krause i George’a C. Thorntona. Kluczowymi kwestiami poruszanymi w tej publikacji są: sposób planowania, stosowane narzędzia oceny, charakterystyka asesorów, działania podejmowane po zakończeniu AC.
Assessment Center (AC) is an important technique for personnel selection and the evaluation of employee competencies. This article looks at Polish experience in the application of the Assessment Center and compares it with studies conducted in Western Europe and North America by Diana E. Krause and George C. Thornton. Key issues raised in this paper include planning methods, applied assessment tools, assessor characteristics, and actions taken after the conclusion of the Assessment Center.

Celem artykułu jest analiza związku między kulturą i praktyką badawczą. Pierwsza odniesiona jest do postaw propozycjonalnych, gdzie owo odniesienie ma charakter intersubiektywny. Ostatnia ujęta jest w kategoriach ludzkich interakcji. Ich odpowiedni składnik, czyli jednostkowe działanie fizykalne, jest przykładem zdarzenia fizykalnego. Autor postuluje, że kultura warunkuje praktykę badawczą. Praktyka ta jest wpleciona w inne praktyki społeczne (takie jak zdroworozsądkowa lub religijna), wobec czego relacja między tym, co społeczne, i tym, co kulturowe, ma charakter holistyczny i dynamiczny. Autor omawia kilka stanowisk, które wiązały się z poszczególnymi tematami lub problemami omawianego związku, aby wskazać wielość jego aspektów. Na koniec ta analiza służyć ma odsłonięciu wymiaru wielokulturowego, w ramach którego można podchodzić do praktyki badawczej.
The article aims at analysing a link between culture and a research practice. The former is referred to the propositional attitudes, where this reference is of intersubjective nature. The latter is given in terms of the human interactions. Their relevant component, that is, an individual’s physical action is an instance of a physical event. The author’s claim is that culture conditions the research practice. This practice is interwoven into other social practices (like commonsense or religious), so that the relation between the social and the cultural is of a holistic and dynamic nature. The author discusses a number of positions which have dealt with the particular topics or problems of the link in question to show how many facets this link may have. Finally, the analysis is to reveal the multicultural dimension in which the research practice may be approached.

Landscape and the research done on it are of interest to many authors from various scientific fields, which means a wide conceptual and methodological scope. But the situation is not simple, and the biggest problem remains, of course, with the term “landscape”. It is a basic concept, yet arousing much controversy. Its multi-layered character is reflected in many scientific disciplines that give it different meanings [Andrzejewski 1992]. Landscape appears as an object of study in geography, geobotany, geochemistry and geophysics of the landscape, ecology, landscape architecture and urban planning. In the modern landscape, an ecological approach includes: analysis of the components of the landscape and the relationship between them; identification of natural spatial units and their hierarchy; valorization of the natural environment for various forms of human activity; and diagnosis of the organization of natural space [Richling, Solon 1998]. That presents the spatial variability of the phenomena occurring in metropolitan areas, which can be represented by using landscape indicators. The use of landscape indicators, also called landscape metrics, allows comparing of selected research areas. The indicators are of a specific category of landscape ecological indicators, defined as the measurable characteristics of the biotic and abiotic environment. The research fields are chosen in 10 areas of the 3-city metropolis. Selection criterion was based on spaces with potential natural and high investment attractiveness. Selected research areas are entirely covered by local spatial development plans.

Innovation is one of the key factors for growth and development in any society. However, there are many factors that can potentially impede innovation capacity. One of them is culture; this study has investigated how some African cultural practices can affect innovation potential. The author has taking into consideration such practices like prostrating, kneeling, bowing to show respect when greeting, and the perception that asking questions / been curious is impolite and disrespectful. Innovation can be triggered by curiosity and the desire to try new things; hence this research is an attempt to understand how intellectual curiosity and creativity can be stifled as a result of excessive adherence to certain cultural practices. The survey design used to collect primary data for the research featured 57 questions with total respondents of 502. Logistic regression was used to measure the predictive power and the degree to which the independent variables affected the target variable. 65% of respondents asserted that they grew up learning to be curious and had the cultural privilege to ask questions around older people. The study shows a positive relationship between growing up curious, asking questions around older people, and being potentially innovative while other cultural practices like showing respect by prostrating, kneeling, bowing, curiosity and not challenging traditional practices shows a negative relationship with innovation potential with the highest negative correlation value. However, this does not suggest that the continuous observance of these practices suppresses people’s innovation potential because correlation does not imply causation. The findings in this study implies that for Africa and Nigeria to become more competitive with respect to innovation potential, it must embrace and prioritize an open culture that eliminates subjugation in any form, one that values curiosity, out of the box thinking and creativity.

A flat tax rate is a familiar election-campaign slogan these days. Politicians calling for the introduction of a flat tax system quote examples of countries that have already implemented such systems. Unfortunately, these examples do not always show the whole picture. In the article, the author describes how the flat tax system is constructed in individual countries. It turns out that no national tax system actually meets the definition of a true flat rate. Everywhere there are tax breaks and deductions. In most countries, there is an actual progression of personal income tax (PIT) and the flat rate is only theoretical. Corporate income tax (CIT), though usually simpler than PIT, does not meet the requirements of linearity, either. In the theoretical part of the article, the author tries to explain that the dispute over the flat tax rate is ideological and-due to the absence of viable arguments-there are slim chances for a compromise in this area.

The bank institutions emphasize an ethical dimension of their activity, expose status of subjects of public confidence and unanimity between practice and the basic ethical assumptions. They enact and also accept to application Vocational Ethics Codes (Deontological Codes). Vocational Ethics Codes used by the bank institutions are not enjoy as the basic source of claims with the bank institutions. However in practice they can serve to a dissatisfied parties to a contract in such a dispute. That is why it is worth to notice at the juridical sense of those elaborations particularly test of usage Deontological Codes as a base of the claim against the bank.

The common objective of the articles included in this issue of Roczniki Psychologiczne is to explain some psychological mechanisms of psychotherapy by drawing on research findings from different areas of psychology. The need for such analyses is justified by the status of research on psychotherapy, which shows that psychotherapy works, but it is not known how or why it does. Such analyses are carried out in accordance with the paradigm of evidence-based clinical practice, suggesting that a potential source of answers to questions or resolution of controversies arising in the practice of psychotherapy can be all the available research findings. The articles in this issue of Roczniki illustrate the practical execution of this suggestion by using research findings from the field of psychology in search of answers to the questions arising in the practice of psychotherapy. Four of the papers concern the determinants of the effectiveness of psychotherapeutic interventions and explain issues such as: (1) in whom and how to modify coping with stress in order to prevent the recurrence of mental disorder symptoms; (2) how to deal with negative emotions in patients; (3) under what circumstances patients have a chance to change their behavior under the influence of insight into the transference phenomenon; (4) what the effects are of psychotherapists perceiving patients in terms of stereotypical assumptions, and whether and how psychotherapists can control such perception. The fifth article refers to changes in mental functioning in patients treated with psychotherapy and answers the question of what the transformation of self-image is associated with in changing the behavior of patients under the influence of psychotherapy.

The article presents forms of cooperation and social benefits resulting from cooperation be-tween universities and business practice. Basic kinds and directions of mutual relations arising from common areas of interest, possibilities, needs and conditions for the functioning of each side, have been presented. Solutions carried out by universities with the participation of busi-ness practice have been discussed. In case of business practice, potential areas of cooperation with schools and joint ventures in the area of R&D have been discussed.
W artykule przedstawiono formy współpracy i korzyści społeczne wynikające ze współpracy uczelni wyższej z praktyką gospodarczą. Zaprezentowano podstawowe rodzaje i kierunki wzajemnych relacji wynikające ze wspólnych obszarów zainteresowań, możliwości i potrzeb oraz warunków funkcjonowania każdej ze stron. Omówiono rozwiązania, które realizowane są przez szkoły wyższe z udziałem praktyki; w przypadku praktyki gospodarczej potencjalne obszary współpracy ze szkołami oraz wspólne przedsięwzięcia w obszarze B+R.

W artykule omówiono istotę członkostwa w spółdzielni, a także czynniki warunkujące przyjęcie osoby w poczet jej członków. Zanalizowano konstrukcję art. 24 § 2 pr. sp., odnosząc się do sytuacji skutkującej wykluczeniem członka ze spółdzielni. Poruszono również kwestię podmiotów uprawnionych do pojęcia uchwały w przedmiocie wykluczenia członka ze spółdzielni, a także możliwości odwołania się członka od uchwały wykluczającej go z grona spółdzielców. Przedstawiono także zasady, które musi spełnić odwołujący się. Następnie omówiono zagadnienie zaskarżenia uchwały o wykluczeniu członka ze spółdzielni do sądu, a także sprecyzowano możliwości rozwiązania stosunku członkostwa oraz wskazano organ, który jest władny podjąć w tej kwestii stosowną uchwałę.
The paper entitled Excluding the member from co-operative membership in judicial practice, consists of the following parts: introduction; reasons for excluding the member from co-operative membership; proceedings to exclude the member from cooperative membership; appealing against the resolution on excluding the member from co-operative membership and a summary. In the introduction the author writes about the essence of being a co-operative member and the issues determining acceptance of a person as a co-operative member. In the next part the author analyses the structure of Article 24 § 2 of the Co-operatives Law referring to the situation resulting in the exclusion of the member from co-operative membership. The following part of the paper deals with the issue of entities entitled to make a resolution on excluding the member from co-operative membership. The third part entitled Appealing to the general meeting against the supervisory board resolution, contains information about a possibility of appealing against the resolution on excluding the member from co-operative membership. The author gives the conditions (of the appeal) which must be met by the person appealing. The following part is devoted to the appeal to the court against the resolution on excluding the member. In summary the author describes possibilities of terminating the membership and defines them in detail. He also defines which bodies are entitled to pass an appropriate resolution.
