Przedłożony artykuł przybliża współczesnemu odbiorcy wielkie formy muzyczne dedykowane św. Jackowi Odrowążowi. Należą do nich najpierw kompozycje monodyczne: oficjum rymowane Adest dies celebris (1540), dwie łacińskie sekwencje Salvatorem collaudemus (I poł. XVI w.) oraz Funde de caelestibus (z przełomu XV i XVI w.), a także dwie melodie Alleluja mszalnego z wersetami Gaude fili Hyacinthe oraz Memor pater, o Hyacinthe (1536). Do grupy kompozycji polifonicznych związanych ze św. Jackiem zaliczamy: polichóralny koncert kościelny Ave Florum Flos Hyacinthe Marcina Mielczewskiego (†1651), anonimowy koncert kościelny Gaude Fili Hiacinthe, a także kantatę Święty Jacek Patron Korony Polskiej (1780) autorstwa Jakuba Gołąbka i ks. Wacława Sierakowskiego (zachowaną tylko w wersji tekstowej). Do kręgu tego należą także dwie współczesne kompozycje mszalne: Msza o św. Jacku Odrowążu (2004) autorstwa Jacka Sykulskiego oraz Missa in honorem sancti Hyacinthi (2015) skomponowana przez Pawła Bębenka.
The presented article introduces the modern recipient to great musical forms dedicated to St. Jacek Odrowąż (Hyacinth of Poland). These include first monodic compositions: rhyme officially Adest dies celebris (1540), two Latin sequences Salvator collaudemus (first half of the 16th century) and Funde de caelestibus (from the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries), as well as two melodies of the Mass Alleluia with verses Gaude Hyacinthe and Memor pater, about Hyacinthe (1536). To the group of polyphonic compositions related to St. Jacek Odrowąż includes: a polychoral church concert Ave Florum Flos Hyacinthe by Marcin Mielczewski (d. 1651), an anonymous church concert, as well as a cantata Saint Jacek Patron of the Polish Crown (1780) by JakubGołąbek and priest Wacław Sierakowski (preserved only in the text version). This group also includes two contemporary mass compositions: Mass for St. Jacek Odrowąż (2004) by JacekSykulski and Missa in honorem sancti Hyacinthi (2015) composed by Paweł Bębenek.

Opis:
In their Insensitive Semantics (2005) Cappelen and Lepore argue for the Controversial Aspect (CA) which is a part of their Speech Act Pluralism and which says that speakers don’t have privileged access to what they say. Gross (2006) criticizes C&L’s argument for CA and urges them to abandon that claim. I argue that on C&L’s broad understanding of the notion of what is said, CA (and whole SAP) is trivial, whereas on a more restricted understanding CA is indeed controversial and plausibly false. Moreover, the broad reading of what is said is incompatible with one of C&L’s tests for context-sensitivity.

In the paper I describe John MacFarlane’s version of relativism about truth. I begin by discussing Twardowski’s (1900) and Kokoszynska’s (1948; 1951) arguments against relativism. They think - just as Haack does (see 2011) - that sentences may be relatively true, if they are incomplete, but once they are completed they become true (or false) absolutely. MacFarlane distinguishes between nonindexical contextualism (which was anticipated by Kokoszynska (sic!)) and relativism which requires the introduction of the context of assessment. According to him only the view which postulates double-indexed (to contexts of utterance and to contexts of assessments) truth is able to explain disagreement in subjective domains and contradicting intuitions about the truth-value of future-contingents.

Święty Jacek Odrowąż, dominikanin urodzony w Kamieniu Śląskim nieopodal Opola, kanonizowany w 1594 r. przez papieża Klemensa VIII, należy do najwybitniejszych postaci XIII wieku. Jest uważany za twórcę polskiej prowincji dominikanów za inicjatora powstania wielu klasztorów w Polsce, Prusach, Czechach (Znojnie, Igławie, Ołomuńcu, Pradze) i Austrii (we Friesach na pograniczu Styrii i Karyntii). Nazywany Apostołem Północnej Europy, Apostołem Słowian, Światłem Północy, Lux ex Silesiae (Światłem ze Śląska), prowadził misje ewangelizacyjne wśród ludów zamieszkujących dzisiejsze państwa bałtyckie oraz stepy nadczarnomorskie, także w Rusi Kijowskiej. Przedmiotem niniejszego artykułu jest próba omówienia i analizy kultu św. Jacka w polskiej tradycji i kulturze religijnej. Autorka przedstawia biografię świętego, legendy i podania z nim związane, także przysłowia, zwyczaje agrarne i kulinaria. Materiały, które stały się podstawą omówienia, pochodzą z badań terenowych, które autorka prowadziła w latach 2015–2020, jak i z dostępnej literatury przedmiotu.
St. Jacob Odrowąż, a Dominican born in Kamień Śląski close to Opole, canonized in 1594 by Clement VIII, is one of the most prominent figures of the thirteenth century. He is considered to be the founder of the Polish province of the Dominican and initiator of the creation of many monasteries in Poland, Prussia, the Czech Republic (Znojmo, Jihlava, Olomouc and Prague) and Austria (Friesach on the border between Styria and Catharinia). He is called the Apostle of the Northern Europe, the Apostle of the Slavs, the Light of the North, Lux ex Silesiae (the Light from Silesia); he carried out evangelization among the peoples inhabiting today’s Baltic countries and the Black Sea grasslands, also in Kievan Rus. This article is an attempt to discuss and analyse the cult of St. Jack in Polish tradition and religious culture. The author presents the biography of the Saint, legends and myths associated with him as well as proverbs, agrarian and culinary customs. The materials used in this article come from field research that the author conducted in the years 2015-2020, as well as from the available literature.

The ownership marks of the books and print albums that belonged to Jan Ponętowski (c. 15401598) have already been studied extensively. Thus, this article presents hitherto unconsidered aspects of the bibliophile’s armorial marks with emphasis on written sources and the interchangeable use of the Ogończyk and Odrowąż coats of arms for his bookplates, supralibros, seals, medal with his portrait and his crosier. It investigates why Ponętowski employed the Odrowąż with the emblem of the Order of the Dragon, and by focussing on the literary sources of the relation between the dragon and salamander, which were depicted on an armorial bookplate, the article accentuates Ponętowski’s self-invention and seemingly compound heraldic usurpation. As it is well known, Kripke has argued that theoretical identifications (such as „Water is H2O”, „Cats are animals”, „Heat is the motion of molecules”) are statements which if true are examples of the necessary a posteriori. In this paper we will show that all these claims can be challenged. First of all, not all of the statements that Kripke mentions are identity statements. Second, Kripke justifies their necessity by arguing that they contain rigid designators. The problem is that the notion of rigid designation has not been defined by him for general terms and it is not obvious how it should be defined. Moreover, it seems that even if we assume that the terms „water” and „H2O” are rigid, their rigidity does not suffice to establish that the statement „Water is H2O” is necessary. Third, it might be argued that „Water is H2O” is not even true, because the claim that water is H2O leads to the claim that water vapor is H2O and snow is H2O, which in turn leads to the absurd conclusion that snow is water vapor. Fifth, terms such as „water” are indeterminate and the precise borders of their extensions have to be fixed by stipulation, which casts some doubt upon the claim that statements such as „Water is H2O” are a posteriori.

W pierwszej części artykułu przedstawiam zaproponowane przez Profesora Jerzego Pelca funkcjonalne podejście do semiotyki logicznej języka naturalnego. Najważniejszą cechą tego podejścia jest zwrócenie szczególnej uwagi na użycia analizowanych wyrażeń. Jednym z istotnych celów zaproponowanej przez Pelca analizy jest zaś denominalizacja semiotyki języka naturalnego. Zdaniem Pelca, analiza, która zajmuje się przede wszystkim sposobem użycia i wyrażeniami wyjętymi z kontekstu, przecenia rolę nazw w języku. Natomiast analiza, której przedmiotem są użycia i podużycia, siłą rzeczy musi zwracać uwagę na kontekst i sytuację pozajęzykową i dzięki temu może „dowartościować” zdania. W drugiej części staram się usytuować stanowisko Pelca w ramach toczonej współcześnie debaty między minimalizmem semantycznym a kontekstualizmem, dotyczącej wpływu kontekstu pozajęzykowego na znaczenie. Osobny podrozdział poświęcony jest analizie wypowiedzi niezdaniowych. Stawiam tezę, że pogląd Pelca można uznać za stanowisko pragmatyczne, zgodnie z którym takie wypowiedzi są rzeczywiście – a nie tylko pozornie – niezdaniowe, niemniej jednak mogą wyrażać sądy i mieć określoną moc illokucyjną.

Another turning point in the 63-year history of the “Museology” Annual arrived in December 2015, with the death of Janusz Odrowąż-Pieniążek, the Editor-in-chief of “Museology” from 1981 to 2011, and who later had a permanent emotional bond with the editors, and remained a spiritual patron of our magazine. Janusz Odrowąż-Pieniążek graduated in Polish Philology from the University in Warsaw. He was a historian of literature, a museologist, but above all a writer. His major passion and field of activity, apart from holding the post of Director of the Adam Mickiewicz Museum of Literature for 37 years (1972–2009), consisted in writing and editorial activity.

Artykuł dotyczy zagadnienia daty i okoliczności przybycia św. Jacka Odrowąża do Krakowa. Dzięki odnalezienie w zbiorach Rosyjskiej Biblioteki Narodowej w Petersburgu średniowiecznego rękopisu, można ostatecznie przeciąć spekulacje na temat czasu pojawienia się Jacka w Krakowie. Niewątpliwie został on posłany do Polski nie przez św. Dominika, ale przez drugiego generała Zakonu, bł. Jordana z Saksonii, a przybył do Krakowa w drugiej połowie 1222 r.
The paper deals with the problem of the time and circumstance of St. Jacek Odrowąż’s arrival in Cracow. Thanks to the medieval manuscript discovered in the Russian National Library in St. Petersburg, the speculations about the time of Jacek’s appearance in Cracow can finally be brought to an end. Without any doubt he was sent to Poland not by St. Dominic, but by the second general of the Order, Blessed Jordan of Saxony, and came to Cracow in the second half of 1222.

The paper contains advanced statistical analysis, original methods and a significant contribution to the claim that measurement of reflexivity is possible. It is based on original empirical research using a sample of 334 students from different faculties and educational levels. It utilises a qualitative questionnaire containing a 4-level reflexivity scale, designed by Kember et al. (2000), translated into the Polish language and context. The aim of the study was to identify whether students’ reflexivity levels can be associated with the level of their study, taking into account possible masking effects of their age. Differences were tested for faculty and system of training (full time or part-time). Analysis confirms the strongest relation between reflexive thinking, system of tuition and level of studies. There was no connection found between reflexive thinking and the faculty of study or the respondents’ gender.

Sending out holiday greetings by regular mail does not involve the exercise of rights and duties of Deputies, also within a broad meaning of this term, and could not be recognized as an activity aimed at the creation of an organizational framework for the exercise of the mandate. Therefore, it cannot be classified as the exercise of a Deputy’s mandate, or activity substantially connected with the performance of the function of a Member of Parliament. In the author’s opinion, holiday greeting cards cannot be distributed by Deputies with the use of postage-paid envelopes provided by the Sejm.

Semantic contextualism claims that sentences ascribing knowledge or lack thereof (sentences like "S knows that p" and "S doesn't know that p") are context dependent: they express different propositions in different contexts of utterance. "Knows that" is either indexical or elliptical and refers to different relations in different circumstances. Invariantism argues in turn that the knowing relation is just one and the proposition expressed by a given knowledge ascription does not depend on context. A special case of invariantism is interest-relative invariantism proposed recently by Jason Stanley. According to |R| knowledge is conceptually linked to practical interests. Whether or not true beliefs count as knowledge depends on the costs of being wrong; on the stakes in a given situation (I may know that the bank will be open on Saturday if I have no important business to be done in the bank; if however I have an impending bill coming due I will not count as knowing that the bank will be open on Saturday even though my evidence as regard bank opening hours has not changed). It is argued in the paper that the difference between various contexts in which knowledge ascriptions are made is not a difference in stakes. Moreover knowledge has to be distinguished from willingness to be sure. One may know something but not be sure about it and may be sure about something but not to know it. The higher the stakes the more sure one usually wants to be, but the height of the stakes does not have such an impact on knowledge.

This opinion presents a thesis that it is absolutely prohibited to carry out electoral canvassing in the areas of military units and other organizational units subordinate to the Minister of National Defence and in civil defense units, as well as in quartered units subordinate to the minister responsible for internal affairs. However, military units set up temporarily in order to carry out a military mission beyond the borders of the Republic of Polish are not covered by the prohibition, as they do not fulfill the requirement of the statutory definition of the area of a military unit. Canvassing to students in schools is also prohibited. In addition, the author of the opinion distinguishes hospitals and penal institutions as workplaces, in which canvassing cannot be carried out if it causes disturbance in their normal operation.

The paper refers to a small fraction of raw data obtained during 50 interviews carried out in Lisbon and in Warsaw in 2017-2018. Through the preliminary interpretative analysis with the use of MAXQDA 2018, a connection between English language and soft power (Nye 2004) was established. 'Soft power' is a political concept, re-introduced in this paper through the novel interpretation of the research data, whilst looking at the English language from a sociopolitical, critical pedagogy perspective, in order to investigate its implications for social inclusion and exclusion. Moreover, unexpected matrixes of language, gender and power were discovered, embodying Boudon's concept of unintended consequences of social action (1993). The study was conducted with the use of soft system methodology (SSM) and the notion of 'soft' in social sciences was explored. It also introduced SSM to the analysis of social aspects of the English language in public spaces in Poland and Portugal. Moreover, the results of the study confirmed that there is a connection between English language acquisition and the socio-economic positioning of workers in these locations. The study should be treated as singular and with no intention of building a universal theory, but aims to look into language from an original perspective and to share the most interesting quotes from the research participants, to reveal people's own voices and their own words (appropriately coded to maintain anonymity) and to establish direct contact between the interviewees and their audience.

The subject of the opinion is the issue, whether a Deputy as a natural person could process personal data and whether processing the data must be notified to the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection. The author claims that parliamentary activities might involve processing personal data. However, in most situations the possibility of processing of sensitive data by a Deputy must be excluded. The duty to register a set of personal data concerns these Deputies who process such data under statutory rules beyond indicated exceptions.

The power of the presidium of the committee to determine the agenda of a committee sitting is limited only in two cases – a minority request to convene a sitting and an initiative of the Presidium of the Sejm. The chairperson of the committee establishes the agenda of the committee meeting only in the case in which he executes the minority’s request. No provision of the Standing Orders of the Sejm l allows the chairman of the committee to set the agenda for a committee meeting without the involvement the presidium of the committee. Producing minutes documenting a sitting of the presidium is not required, nor there are any procedural requirements regarding the rules for convening these sittings.

Opis:
Suspension of the membership in Deputies’ (parliamentary) club is not the same as loss of membership, hence it does not cause changes in the composition of a club. Due to the fact that the Standing Orders of the Sejm do not include any provisions concerning the status of a Deputy, whose membership in the club has been suspended, effects of such suspension should be perceived solely in the sphere of club’s internal matters. The suspended Deputy, until a information about a loss of his/her club membership is submitted to the Marshal of the Sejm, shall be treated by Sejm authorities as a member of the club.

Inspired by the feminist thoughts of Rosi Braidotti and Donna Haraway, the author of this article endeavours to depict the emerging concept of gender neutrality that has developed in Sweden in recent years. The author uses an interpretative paradigm with a variety of qualitative field research tools, to gain a deeper understanding of how gender neutrality works in practice at school and nursery level in Sweden. The study took place in Stockholm in September 2014 with the author living in situ. The case study involved the use of: field notes and observations, interviews with university scholars, heads of schools and nurseries and open-ended questionnaires with teachers, carers and students. The analysis of written resources included the school and nursery national curriculum, press discourse and scientific publications on the subject matter. The author of the article argues that gender neutrality may be perceived as a concept originating from post-humanism, therefore it should be examined within the post-human socio-pedagogical reflection and embedded in norm critical discourse.

This introductory article is intended to open the volume of work prepared by the participants of the 12th UNESCO Janusz Korczak Chair International Summer School. The participants presented these papers at the RC25 ISA Interim International Conference in Warsaw, entitled: "Language and Society. Research Advances in Social Sciences" (26-27.09.2019), exploring the concepts of gender equality and children's equality in liberal and conservative discourses and practices invested in language. The papers in this volume primarily use the methodology of discourse analysis and a range of tools and methods within this framework. The purpose is to shed light on how discourses inform preferences, behaviours and representations, towards the positioning of individuals in society, based on their respective gender and their individual status - whether an adult or a child. It is interesting to explore what is expected of the holders of these positions and whether they are able to confront and renegotiate their situation. The authors look into gendered childhood, analysing if differences can be found in so-called conservative and liberal discourses. The gender aspect of childhood and the resistance towards children’s expected positions interlinked to their gender is visible to diverse degrees in this selection of papers. The concept of social positioning due to one's gender is at the heart of this volume. Therefore, this Editorial forms a theoretical backstage for the volume of works included in the special post-conference issue of Society Register.

The Act on the Exercise of the Mandate of a Deputy or Senator constitutes legal basis for requiring by the Deputy the access to recordings from the session of a communal council. However, there are no sanctions in case of local self-government unit’s infringement of such an obligation towards Deputies and Senators. The lack of specific legal instruments does not exclude the possibility of taking action on general terms, i.e. on the basis of provisions concerning control and supervision over local self-government. A Deputy may demand, from the chairperson of the council, an explanation of reasons for the inability of the realization of such right.

This information concerns, inter alia, participation of parliamentarians in the work of the parliamentary grouping, i.e. persons performing public tasks. Therefore, the data of persons participating in the work of the team, who do not perform public functions, cannot be made public.

Transgression is often seen as a negative term; to cross social or ethical boundaries. In this paper, it is defined as ‘blurring of the symbolic boundaries between grandparents and younger generations in terms of the WWII experience’, which leads to living memory of the war, but also to experiencing and re-living the trauma of war and dislocation. It occurs through the immersion of younger generations in family history narratives, memorabilia, diaries and photographs that become a family treasure, owned jointly by the family members. In this paper, intergenerational transgression is analysed as a softand symbolic phenomenon, which on one hand preserves the memory of past, but on the other, cascades the negative experiences onto children and grandchildren. If this is true for WWII survivors, then it should be considered in other cases of long-term conflict and dislocation, particularly in recent conflicts such as Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Understanding the connection between intergenerational transgression of war trauma may aid the process of healing.

This paper is based on the author's two-year sociological field research in Saudi Arabia, where Islam has a major influence on every aspect of life. For example, the need for specialists and affordable manual labor from abroad is a direct result of the dysfunctional education system, which is heavily influenced by the cultural and sociological consequences of the Wahhabi interpretation of the Qur'an. The author demonstrates that the Wahhabi vision of Islam is the key factor responsible for preserving traditional customs, the maintenance of power by the Royal family, and that it holds back the sociological effects of globalization.
Przedstawiony esej jest wynikiem dwuletnich badań terenowych w Arabii Saudyjskiej, gdzie Islam ma głęboki wpływ na każdy aspekt życia. Na przykład, zapotrzebowanie na wykwalifikowanych zagranicznych pracowników fizycznych w osiągalnej cenie wynika w prostej linii z dysfunkcyjnego systemu edukacji, który pozostaje pod silnym wpływem wahhabistycznej interpretacji Koranu. Autorka wykazuje, iż wahhabistyczna wizja Koranu jest kluczowym czynnikiem odpowiedzialnym za zachowanie tradycji, pozostanie królewskiej rodziny przy władzy, oraz że powstrzymuje ona społeczne efekty globalizacji.

W artykule krytycznie omawiam główne stanowiska filozoficzne dotyczące domniemanych niezdaniowych aktów mowy, takich jak „Ładna sukienka”, „Pod stołem”, „Gdzie?” itp. Filozofów zajmujących się takimi wypowiedziami można podzielić na dwie grupy: tych, którzy (jak m.in. Stanley, Merchant i Devitt) uważają, że albo są one zakamuflowanymi wypowiedziami zdaniowymi, albo nie są pełnoprawnymi aktami mowy, oraz tych, którzy (jak m.in. Stainton i Corazza) uznają, że chociaż nie są to zdania ani w sensie syntaktycznym, ani w sensie semantycznym, to jednak można za ich pomocą dokonać aktu mowy. Opowiadam się za twierdzącą odpowiedzią na tytułowe pytanie i proponuję analizę takich aktów w ramach relatywizmu umiarkowanego Recanatiego. Dziękuję anonimowym recenzentom „Studiów Semiotycznych”, których krytyczne uwagi pozwoliły mi ulepszyć tekst.
In this paper I critically examine the main philosophical standpoints concerning apparent subsentential speech acts, such as “Nice dress”, “Under the table”, “Where?”. The opponents of such speech acts (such as e.g. Stanley, Merchant and Devitt) argue that the utterances in question are either ellipses (i.e. sentential) or do not have determinate content and/or illocutionary force. The defenders of sub-sentential speech acts (such as e.g. Stainton and Corazza) argue that in the right circumstances a sub-sentential utterance may constitute a speech act even though it cannot be regarded as a case of ellipsis. I argue for the affirmative answer to the title question and claim that the best framework in which such acts should be analyzed is Recanati’s moderate relativism.

According to the Act on Voivodeship Self-Government, the chairman of the Audit Committee must be a member of the largest club of councilors. The fact, that submission of a candidacy meeting this requirement requires the approval of the largest political club, is determined by non-legal circumstances (political pragmatism), not normative ones. The composition of the committee must also comply with absolute statutory requirements. The author also points out that the paralysis of the audit committee due to the failure to appoint the chairman may lead to the suspension of the voivodeship self-government bodies and the establishment of a commissioner’s board on the basis of relevant rules.

The paper is the result of collaboration between seven European universities and covers health, social pedagogy, and special education programs, aimed at the removal of barriers to social inclusion and social participation facing children and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The collaboration received funding from the Erasmus+ Intensive Program with the aim of developing a common curriculum on social inclusion for children and young adults with IDD. Identifying variables that support inclusion for individuals with IDD who engage in challenging behavior is critically important and this paper is built on reviewing social and educational policies from 5 European countries in order to do so. The paper reveals loopholes and paradoxes in policy that hinder social inclusion when addressing challenging behavior. The greatest challenges identified by the researchers are the gaps in training for different professions and the lack of overarching legislation for these professions. Another issue identified is government tolerance of a lack of clear competencies and codes of conduct amongst unregulated service providers.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest prezentacja odnalezionego w zbiorach Rosyjskiej Biblioteki Narodowej w Petersburgu nowego źródła do najstarszych dziejów polskich dominikanów. Powstało ono zapewne w pierwszej połowie XIII w. Zawiera wiele nowych informacji, m.in. ostatecznie przecina spekulacje na temat czasu przybycia św. Jacka do Krakowa, który niewątpliwie został posłany do Polski w 1222 r. Odnaleziony tekst jest najprawdopodobniej fragmentem tzw. zaginionej kroniki dominikańskiej.
The article presents a new source found in the National Library of Russia in Saint Petersburg. This is the oldest source for the history of the Polish Dominicans. It was probably produced in the first half of the thirteenth century. It contains some new information, among others it finally puts an end to speculation about the time of St Hyacinth arrival in Cracow, who was undoubtedly sent to Poland in 1222. The found text is most probably a fragment of the so-called ‘lost Dominican chronicle’.

Opis:
Introduction. English, as a language of global communication, has become an element of social status and therefore connected to the issues of inclusion and exclusion. Within privileged social groups, its position has changed from a foreign language to a second language, which demonstrates a linguistic shift with long-term consequences. Aim. The aim is to capture the cultural and individual implications of the observed phenomenon reported in Poland and Portugal. Materials and methods. The methodological framework is based on institutional ethnography. It is accompanied by the concept of “soft power” and “positioning theory”. Results. The research results indicate that English can be seen as a new tool for social stratification with an effect on language policies, impacting people’s lives and their opportunities. Whilst critical of the neoliberal, neo-colonial and imperialistic dimensions of English language hegemony, the author captures an original gender perspective on English as a language of opportunity, inclusion, and empowerment.
Wprowadzenie. Angielski jako język globalnej komunikacji stał się elementem statusu społecznego, tym kojarzonym z problematyką włączenia i wykluczenia. W uprzywilejowanych grupach społecznych jego pozycja zmieniła się z języka obcego na język „drugi”, co wskazuje na zmianę językową o długofalowych konsekwencjach. Cel. Celem artykułu jest uchwycenie kulturowych i indywidualnych implikacji obserwowanego zjawiska zauważonych w Polsce i Portugalii. Materiały i metody. Ramy metodologiczne oparto na etnografii instytucjonalnej. Metodzie tej towarzyszą koncepcje teoretyczne „miękkiej władzy” i „teorii pozycjonowania”. Wyniki. Rezultaty badań wskazują na to, że język angielski może być widziany jako nowe narzędzie stratyfikacji społecznej, mające wpływ na politykę językową, codzienne życie ludzi i ich możliwości. Krytykując neoliberalny, neokolonialny i imperialistyczny wymiar hegemonii języka angielskiego, zastosowano oryginalną perspektywę związaną z płcią, gdzie to angielski staje się językiem możliwości, integracji i upodmiotowienia.

Artykuł zawiera teoretyczną analizę procesu socjalizacji, zanurzonego w przekonaniach religijnych, wprowadzającą do przedstawienia wyników badań empirycznych, pochodzących z niewielkiego, pilotażowego studium przypadku studentów Akademii Pedagogiki Specjalnej im. M. Grzegorzewskiej w Warszawie. W badaniu uczestniczyło ponad 250 studentów w grupach 20–30-osobowych na Wydziale Nauk Pedagogicznych, w latach 2014–2016. Studentów poproszono o przygotowanie krótkiej anonimowej notatki zawierającej opis, jak wyobrażają sobie Boga. Studenci mieli również naszkicować „mapę świata”. Powtarzające się odpowiedzi pozwoliły na wyprowadzenie wniosków o dominującym postrzeganiu Boga oraz geograficznej perspektywie eurocentrycznej badanych. Na tej podstawie wyprowadzono wstępne wnioski o procesie socjalizacji, przebiegającej w określonym kontekście religijnym, zastanawiając się, jak kontekst ten oddziałuje na osobiste poglądy o świecie.
The paper comprises a theoretical analysis of the socialization processes embedded in religious faith, which have led to the presentation of research results of a small empirical case study conducted among Polish students in The Maria Grzegorzewska University in Warsaw. The preliminary study was carried out with over 250 respondents, in small working groups of 20–30 students, in the Institute of Educational Studies (2014–2016). Students were asked to write anonymously a short description of how they perceive God and to prepare a draft drawing of their map of the world. The repetitiveness of the answers in the study reflected the dominant view of God and the Eurocentric geographical perspective, allowing to draw some preliminary conclusions about the process of socialization in a specific religious context and about how it may affect one’s personal worldview.

Wind farms produce electricity without causing air pollution and environmental degradation. Unfortunately, wind turbines are a source of infrasound, which may cause a number of physiological effects, such as an increase in cortisol and catecholamine secretion. The impact of infrasound noise, emitted by wind turbines, on the health of geese and other farm animals has not previously been evaluated. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the effect of noise, generated by wind turbines, on the stress parameters (cortisol) and the weight gain of geese kept in surrounding areas. The study consisted of 40 individuals of 5- week- old domestic geese Anser anser f domestica, divided into 2 equal groups. The first experimental gaggle (I) remained within 50 m from turbine and the second one (II) within 500 m. During the 12 weeks of the study, noise measurements were also taken. Weight gain and the concentration of cortisol in blood were assessed and significant differences in both cases were found. Geese from gaggle I gained less weight and had a higher concentration of cortisol in blood, compared to individuals from gaggle II. Lower activity and some disturbing changes in behavior of animals from group I were noted. Results of the study suggest a negative effect of the immediate vicinity of a wind turbine on the stress parameters of geese and their productivity.

The author states that a Deputy does not have an obligation to make available document received from a private person, regardless the content of the document. Parliamentary immunity, according to the author, does not release the Deputy from an obligation to testify as a witness or does not release the Deputy from an obligation to provide public authorities with a document which may serve as an evidence. However, pursuant to Article 21 the Act on the Exercise of the Mandate of a Deputy or Senator, the Deputy might refuse to provide information about a person who has provided an information to a deputy. This principle applies to civil procedure, criminal procedure and other investigative procedures that include an obligation to testify. The scope of this privilege contains also the possibility of refusing to issue a document received within limits of exercising of the mandate whose content would reveal information of a deputy’s informer.

W pierwszej części analizuje relacje między dwoma najpełniejszymi rękopisami Żywota, dochodząc do wniosku, że jeden z nich jest wartościowym świadkiem tekstu, drugi zaś to codex descriptus. W części drugiej próbuje wykazać, że jeden z rozdziałów (rozdz. L) Żywota jest późniejszą interpolacją dopisaną jeszcze w XIV w. Część trzecia ma na celu udowodnienie, że lektor Stanisław pisząc o początkach zakonu dominikanów w Polsce korzystał z zaginionego dziś źródła, do którego dostęp miał później również Jan Długosz.
The article presents three different problems related to the source analysis of the oldest hagiography of St. Hyacinth, written by Stanislaus, a lector of theolo-gy (14th century). In the first part of the article, the author analyses the relations be-tween two most complete manuscripts of The Life of St. Hyacinth and comes to the conclusion that one of them is a valuable witness to the text, while the second is a codex descriptus. The second part of the article is an attempt at proving that one of the chapters (chapter L) of The Life is a later interpolation added in the 14th century. The aim of the third part is to prove that when writing about the beginnings of the Dominican Order in Poland, Stanislaus drew upon a source missing today, to which Jan Długosz had access later.

Membership in international organizations does not fall into the category of additional engagement referred to in Article 33 para. 1 and 2 of the Act on the Exercise of the Mandate of a Deputy or and Senator. Consequently, the Deputy is not obliged to notify the Marshal of the Sejm his/her intention of becoming a member of a particular international social organization. The author notes, however, that in the case where that organization runs business activity and when membership would entail participation in its governing bodies, then such participation should be notified to the Marshal of the Sejm.

The book "School bullying. Socio-pedagogical analysis of the phenomenon" by A. Tlusciak-Deliowska (2017) is an important theoretical contribution to the field of social pedagogy, social psychology and educational studies. The subject of the analysis - the phenomenon of school bullying - has an enormous impact on people's lives and achievements throughout their school years and beyond. This means that a deeper understanding of bullying mechanisms and its prevention are of paramount importance for the future of our societies. This book's vital contribution to the field relies on a thorough revision and critical analysis of the state of knowledge, regarding the phenomenon of school bullying, which at this point, has not been carried out within the landscape of Polish pedagogy nor psychology. This complex and comprehensive review of world-wide literature and research about interpersonal aggression amongst children, is methodically structured and systemised in accordance with the newest strategies in an attempt to understand the phenomenon of bullying, its socio-cultural and psychological conditioning and most importantly to identify the most efficient strategies and programmes dedicated to prevention. The author distinguishes two main perspectives that she uses as frames for the analysis. The first is the individualised one - focused on personal differences amongst persons involved in school bullying, based on biological, personal and social factors. The second perspective is the processual one, based on group dynamics, social positioning, power relations and status hierarchies within peer groups at school. Moreover, the author has taken an informed decision to interpret school bullying within the symbolic field of social interaction that takes place in a peer group, using functionalism as one of the chosen interpretative frames for analysis. The book opens with an overview of works dedicated to etymology and a selection of classical publications devoted to bullying and mobbing. The cultural conditioning of how these terms are defined is discussed at length. Furthermore, the questions of anonymity, the process of ongoing primary and secondary stigmatization of the victim are analysed. International statistical data on self-reported bullying and the victimization of school children gives the reader an improved understanding of how widely spread and common this issue is. Moreover, the author runs through multiple methods of measuring the attitudes towards bullying, the experiences of bullying and group socio-metrics related to it. In the individualised approach, she looks at who the common victim and perpetrator are and how they are individually conditioned and characterised? What is relatively original and fresh is the acknowledgement and the exploration of the role of a witness in a situation of bullying. This discovery may be crucial in building strategies of prevention, impediment and coping. In the group approach, the role of a family as a support buffer is discussed and also identified as initially responsible for aggressive behaviour. The author considers classroom ecology, issues of popularity and group relations, descriptive classroom norms and social cohesion, which surprisingly may be linked to bullying. The analysis includes a debate over the active or the passive roles of witnesses and their responsibility for strengthening the bully or for protecting the victim. A fascinating discovery highlighted in the book is that bullying is more likely to take place in smaller classes than in larger ones. Moreover, according to the author’s findings, witnesses who defend a victim in a solidly structured group with a well established leader suffer greater emotional and positional costs than when defending a victim in a loosely structured or unstructured ones. The author discusses peer culture, the culture of bullying, its socio-interactional character and the requirement of collective group inaction to permit the bullying to continue. The author also shows that a steady pattern of bullying works as a stabilisation of inter-peer relations in the classroom. The added value and perhaps the most practical dimension of the book is the assessment of different prevention and intervention programmes that combat bullying in schools and have been developed in multiple countries. The overview of these programmes leads to useful recommendations of which prevention and intervention programmes work the best and the book concludes with the useful discovery that in such programmes one should focus on the role of witnesses. After reading this book I view bullying from a different perspective and it has triggered me to think this may be the case for many other readers, ready to engage with this sophisticated work, which is written in a clear and easy to read manner. As a mother of two young children, I rate this book as source of solid knowledge and I have found many unexpected answers to questions I had about bullying. I also feel that parts of this book should be considered a must read for teachers, school councillors, therapists, educators, students of relevant faculties and parents.

Memories of World War II (WW2) have a deeply cultural dimension and therefore are interesting for intercultural studies. This paper is based on an interpretative analysis of some field and desk research data, carried out in Poland by an interdisciplinary team of social scientists, educators and historians in 2018–2020. It is focused on socio-educational factors in the transfer of knowledge and memory of WW2. The researchers try to distinguish socio-educational factors responsible for the preservation of this memory across a range of age cohorts. Sources of knowledge, school curricula and socio-demographic aspects are set against the measured levels of historic facts concerning WW2. The data sets derive from questionnaires, telephone interviews and in-depth interviews with diverse groups of respondents along with a review of teaching history curricula in 1946–2020. On the basis of the findings, it is argued that a successful transfer of memory and knowledge of WW2 goes beyond teaching history at schools and beyond the contemporary political agenda. This article is meant to serve as a barometer of social changes in respect to fading memories of WW2.

The paper contributes to mental health studies of children and youth’s suicide and suicide attempts. Inspired by early sociological concepts such as Durkheim’s contribution to understanding suicide through social anomy, we ran statistical analysis of worldwide suicide rates and tested for correlation between suicide rates amongst children and youth and “Big Data” on social, educational, economic and environmental factors around the world. Amongst them we considered 88 variables including Human Development Index (HDI) and its indicators, rates of religious observance and denomination, and even the hours of sunlight and the average temperature in each country. The statistical section of the paper is preceded by the results of analysis from the anonymised mental health records of adolescents with suicidal and self-harming tendencies. The data came from a Polish psychotherapist and was accompanied by in-depth analysis of contributing factors from purposely selected, attempted suicide cases, in order to enrich the statistical perspective with biological, individual, environmental and situational factors. Finally, we identify trigger factors and protective indicators, derived from both the statistical and the empirical part of our study.

Niezdaniowe akty mowy to przynajmniej pozornie niezdaniowe wypowiedzi, za których pomocą mówiący dokonują pewnych aktów illokucyjnych: stwierdzają, pytają, proszą itp. Wśród teoretyków zajmujących się takimi wypowiedziami można wskazać zwolenników podejścia, które głosi, że większość takich wypowiedzi to jednak — wbrew pozorom — wypowiedzi zdaniowe (elipsy), oraz zwolenników stanowiska, zgodnie z którym treść takich wypowiedzi musi być bezpośrednio wzbogacona z kontekstu za pomocą procesów pragmatycznych niekontrolowanych semantycznie. W pierwszej części tej pracy przyglądam się bliżej stanowisku traktującemu wypowiedzi niezdaniowe jako elipsy i zastanowiam się, czy można uznać, że kontekst pozajęzykowy może wyznaczać sposób uzupełnienia wyrażenia do pełnego zdania w taki sposób, że pierwotna wypowiedź niezdaniowa może być uznana za elipsę. Następnie przedstawiam stanowisko, zgodnie z którym wypowiedzi niezdaniowe to udane akty illokucyjne niewymagające wzbogacenia pragmatycznego. Argumentuję, że taki pogląd nie jest adekwatny, ponieważ na jego gruncie wypowiedzi niezdaniowych nie można uznać za pełnoprawne akty mowy. W dalszej części pracy proponuję wersję stanowiska pragmatycznego, opartą na relatywizmie umiarkowanym François Recanatiego. Proponowana przeze mnie koncepcja pozwala uznać, że mimo iż wypowiedzi niezdaniowe semantycznie nie wyrażają sądów i nie mają wartości logicznej, to po odpowiednim wzbogaceniu z kontekstu pozajęzykowego mają na tyle określoną treść (i moc), że mogą być uznane za udane akty illokucyjne. Koncepcja ta pozwala również odpowiedzieć na zarzut ze zgodności gramatycznej, który jest jednym z najpoważniejszych zarzutów, z jakimi muszą się zmierzyć wszystkie koncepcje pragmatyczne.
In this paper, I analyse the standpoint according to which alleged subsentential speech acts are in fact ellipses. I argue that extralinguistic context usually does not determine unique linguistic expression which could be regarded as the elided fragment. Next, I critically examine the view which regards subsentential utterances as unenriched situated illocutions and claim that it is not adequate, since it does not satisfactorily explain why such acts are successful. Finally, I propose a pragmatics-oriented view based on Recanati’s moderate relativism. Contrary to Recanati, I postulate unarticulated constituents in the content of subsentential utterances. I argue that this view can disarm the objection from case-matching which is one of the most powerful objections against all pragmatics-oriented views.

In the opinion of the author, the scope material immunity includes the fulfilment of Deputy’s obligation to inform voters about the work of a parliamentarian and about the activities of the body to which he or she was elected. This obligation may be fulfilled through a direct information to voters at meetings with them as well as through the media. The scope of formal immunity is covers the Deputy’s responsibility for an infringement of the rights of third parties by means of informing voters about his work and the activities of the Sejm. In the light of the Supreme Court’s findings, it can be assumed that suing a Deputy to a civil court for infringement of personal rights in a statement made at a press conference in which he or she reports on his or her activities falling within the sphere of the execution of the parliamentary mandate, requires a prior consent of the Sejm.

The term “tax act” is used in the Standing Orders of the Sejm in the substantive sense and refers to a public levy having the features of a tax, i.e. a pecuniary, compulsory, non-returnable and nonequivalent payment imposed by law and constituting budgetary revenue of the State Treasury or local government units of general purpose. The author points out that it is irrelevant for the qualification of a bill as a “tax bill” what name the bill uses to denote a public levy, if it bears the features of a tax. The title of a tax bill also refers to the bill that repeals or modifies the scope of a tax obligation or its elements. The author concludes that any tax act amendment bill meets the characteristics of the term “tax act”, and the scope of the term “tax act” does not include public tributes other than taxes.

The opinion deals with the exercise of parliamentary oversight functions by Sejm committees. It provides an analysis of whether the representatives of State administration might be held responsible for failure to discharge their duties resulting from Article 157 of the Standing Orders of the Sejm. In the author’s view, Sejm committees have at their disposal the means to enforce only political responsibility. Moreover, as concerns suspension of work on a bill in the event of breach of the obligations specified in Article 157 by the representatives of public administration, the author believes that the legitimacy of such action cannot be assessed in abstracto. The author does not rule out that, depending on circumstances and seriousness of the infringements, suspension of work on a bill may be justified.

Using atomic force microscopy (AFM) we performed dynamic force measurements of the adhesive forces in two model systems: avidin-biotin and streptavidin-biotin. In our experiments we used glutaraldehyde for immobilization of (strept)avidin on the tip and biotin on the sample surface. Such interface layers are more rigid than those usually reported in the literature for AFM studies, when (strept)avidin is coupled with biotinylated bovine albumin and biotin with agarose polymers. We determined the dependence of the rupture forces of avidin-biotin and streptavidin-biotin bonds in the range 300-9600 pN/s. The slope of a semilogarithmic plot of this relation changes at about 1700 pN/s. The existence of two different regimes indicates the presence of two activation barriers of these complexes during the dissociation process. The dissociation rates and activation energy barriers, calculated from the Bell model, for the avidin-biotin and streptavidin-biotin interactions are similar to each other for loading rates >1700 pN/s but they are different from each other for loading rates < 1700 pN/s. In the latter case, the dissociation rates show a higher stability of the avidin-biotin complex than the streptavidin-biotin complex due to a larger outer activation barrier of 0.8 kBT. The bond-rupture force is about 20 pN higher for the avidin-biotin pair than for the streptavidin-biotin pair for loading rates < 1700 pN/s. These two experimental observations are in agreement with the known structural differences between the biotin binding pocket of avidin and of streptavidin.

In the empirical study of intercultural exchange presented in this paper, we assessed Erasmus students for knowledge of English as a foreign language (EFL) and their level of reflective judgement, to test for correlation between the two variables. The basic theoretical framing was derived from King and Kitchener’s (1994) reflective judgment model (RJM), based on 3 different levels of reflectivity, connected to progressive cognitive development of adults: pre-reflective, quasireflective and reflective. The results of the study show that the students displayed high levels of reflective judgment and importantly, we found a correlation between their standard of English and their level of reflectivity. The ability to communicate in English is a prerequisite to participation in the Erasmus programme, therefore it was expected that the students would score well for English knowledge. However, the results of the study suggest that being competent in the use of English as a foreign language may be a predictor of higher reflectivity amongst students in higher education. This creates a controversial pedagogical implication suggesting that learning English as a foreign language to a high standard fuels reflectivity.

The reader is presented with an article based on the chronicle of the parish in Odrowąż, which originated in 1819 and describes its history till the end of the 19th century. The author of the text was Jan Kanty Miś - the first official rector of this parish. He shortly described its history as well as that of the church. He also listed the furnishings of the temple and characterized its mural paintings. The text, written in Latin, also contains biographies of the first two rectors of the parish. At the turn of the nineteenth century many churches affiliated to existing parishes in the southern part of Poland became independent. The first community to have undergone this process was that of Chochołów and later on similar efforts were made by inhabitants of Pieniążkowice. In 1818 the construction of the church started. According to regulations, each new parish should consist of at least one thousand worshippers. At the same time villagers from Odrowąż, which was only 1.5 km away from Pianiążkowice, also commenced the construction of their own temple. In 1819 the decision was made by the authorities to found the new parish in Odrowąż with the villages of Dział, Pieniążkowice and Załuczne becoming its part. In the next years the two constructions were carried on simulataneously, namely the legal one in Odrowąż and the illegal one in Pieniążkowice. The argument between the two communities continued despite intervention of state authorities, the owners of the villages as well as the rector.

ESTABLISH - European Science and Technology in Action: Building Links with Industry, School and Home is a four year pan-European project funded by the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). A specific aims of this project is to reinforce the links between school education and external world, so as to raise the level of scientific knowledge of teachers and their students, and increase students’ intrinsic motivation to science and technology. Inquiry-based science education (IBSE) has been selected as the methodology to facilitate this type of teaching and learning. In order to achieve this set aim, it is necessary to prepare the teaching staff to be involved in IBSE. Across Europe teachers and students have begun to adopt the IBSE methodology, facilitated by many projects including ESTABLISH. In Poland, the ESTABLISH teachers training included inter alia, two summer schools during which teachers can deepen the knowledge and understanding of how to apply the IBSE strategy into their own teaching practices. Selected because of their importance in contemporary society life, are the abilities to discuss, to argue and to draw connections. Those skills require the use of specific rules. During the ESTABLISH training, teachers were tasked with creating a list of rules to help them lead a “good discussion” in their classroom. They tried to follow those rules discussing many hot and current topics, for example nuclear energy or use of supplements to lose weight (Chitosan). The advantages and disadvantages of developing this skill (discussion) as part of this teaching method were examined by participants of summer school. At the end of classes teachers shared their experiences of working with proposed method and collectively created a list of discussion topics they thought would be interesting for students that can be implemented in Polish schools. In the presentation, our experiences, remarks and conclusions from working with summer schools' teachers of the ESTABLISH project will be shared.
ESTABLISH (European Science and Technology in Action: Building Links with Industry, School and Home) to czteroletni projekt realizowany w ramach 7 Programu Ramowego ze środków Unii Europejskiej (FP7/2007-2013). Głównym celem projektu jest zachęcenie do bardziej powszechnego stosowania strategii edukacyjnej IBSE, czyli nauczania przez odkrywanie/dociekanie naukowe. Z tego powodu w projekcie szczególny nacisk położono na wzmocnienie więzi łączących edukację szkolną ze światem zewnętrznym, czego rezultatem powinien być wzrost efektywności nauczania oraz wzbudzenie szerszego zainteresowania przedmiotami przyrodniczymi uczniów szkół gimnazjalnych i ponadgimnazjalnych. Kluczową rolę w procesie wdrażania innowacji dydaktycznych odgrywają nauczyciele, dlatego też istotne są szkolenia nauczycieli realizowane w ramach projektu. Opracowane materiały dydaktyczne, zorganizowane szkoły letnie i warsztaty miały przybliżyć nauczycielom zasady prowadzenia zajęć przez odkrywanie/dociekanie naukowe. Metodologia IBSE promuje kształcenie umiejętności kluczowych, ważnych w życiu codziennym, takich jak np.: umiejętność prowadzenia dyskusji czy właściwego argumentowania. Dlatego jednym z zadań realizowanych przez nauczycieli w trakcie szkoleń było rozwinięcie umiejętności prowadzenia dyskusji. Umiejętność ta wymaga jednak stosowania się do odpowiednich reguł, a rolą nauczyciela jest pilnowanie, aby uczniowie reguł tych przestrzegali. W ramach ćwiczeń zaproponowano uczestnikom szkoleń przeprowadzenie dyskusji na aktualne obecnie tematy, takie jak: „Czy w Polsce należy zbudować elektrownię jądrową” oraz „Czy chitosan jest dobrym środkiem odchudzającym”. Dyskusja poprzedzona była opracowaniem zasad „dobrej dyskusji”. Na zakończenie natomiast nauczyciele dzielili się własnymi doświadczeniami z pracy takimi metodami oraz sporządzili listę tematów do dyskusji, które mogłyby zainteresować uczniów na danym etapie kształcenia. W artykule zawarto doświadczenia, przemyślenia i wnioski wynikające z pracy z nauczycielami w ramach zajęć szkół letnich, dotyczących kształcenia umiejętności kluczowych.
