Pierwsze dziesięciolecia XIX wieku były istotnym okresem dla ówczesnej myśli europejskiej, przeżywającej ponowne zainteresowanie m.in. pracami Johanna Gottfrieda Herdera. W tym samym czasie refleksja dotycząca pojęć takich jak kultura czy cywilizacja coraz wyraźniej była obecna na ziemiach polskich. Pojawiały się np. propozycje Jędrzeja Śniadeckiego czy Joachima Lelewela. Warunki panujące w podzielonych zaborami ziemiach polskich skłaniały również do rozwijania refleksji na temat tego, czym jest naród. Zachęcały do pytania o jego charakter, ale także do szukania pewnych rozwiązań (zarówno teoretycznych, jak praktycznych) zmierzających do budzenia poczucia przynależności narodowej. Artykuł stanowi próbę odtworzenia pewnej części emicznego aparatu pojęciowego i terminologicznego, który wprowadził do swoich rozważań Maurycy Mochnacki, niezwykle aktywny publicysta i działacz społeczny, w wydanym w 1830 roku dziele O literaturze polskiey w wieku dziewiętnastym.
Early decades of the 19th century were an important time for the European thought, for it was rediscovering the works of e.g. Johann Gottfried Herder. It was also at that time when reflection about terms like culture and civilisation took roots on the Polish ground. It is visible, e.g. in the proposals of Jędrzej Śniadecki or Joachim Lelewel. The conditions in the partitioned Polish lands also led to shaping the thought concerning the meaning of the term “nation.” Questions about the nature of this term, as well as seeking answers (theoretical and practical) concerning the ways of building a sense of national belonging, were encouraged. This article is an attempt at recreating the emic intellectual tools, as well as the terminology, that led Maurycy Mochnacki (a prominent publicist and activist) to publishing his thoughts in a book titled O literaturze polskiey w wieku dziewiętnastym [On Polish Literature in the Nineteenth Century] in 1830.

In this article Maurycy Mochnacki’s martyrological and messianic declarations in the Preface to the Uprising of the Polish Nation in 1830–1831 are examined in the context of the martyrological discourse in the literature of the Great Emigration. Such an affi rmation may appear puzzling given Mochnacki’s rejection of martyrological interpretations of Poland’s history or messianic readings of his political philosophy, let alone his reputation of being radically opposed to Adam Mickiewicz’s idea of the sacrifi cial victimhood of the Polish nation. In this study the ideological and rhetorical aspects of their statements are compared and analysed. There can be little doubt that in the Preface Mochnacki’s phrasing is steeped in patriotic pathos which seems to be at odds with the tone of his other writings. This article claims that it was a tactical move on his part: he chose the familiar martyrological loci merely as a means to enlist the readers’ support for his own pragmatic programme of restoring Poland’s independence. A general conclusion to be drawn from this apparent inconsistency is that already at that stage (The Uprising was published in Paris in 1834) the logosphere of the Great Emigration had become so dominated by the martyrological discourse that Mochnacki could not afford to ignore it.

This research on the perception of phonic reality presented in Jan Lechoń’s poem Mochnacki is based on interdisciplinary sound studies, specifically the findings made by musicologists, music critics, music psychologists, psychoacoustcians and literature spcialists. The author perceives the speaking persona as the Schaferean “ear witness” verbalizing his experience in metrical language. In her research on lyrical description of perception, the author takes into account both the response to individual sounds and internal images, which become active when one is listening to music. The perception of phonic reality presentend in the poem reveals the poet’s attitude to not only the art of sound, but also non-literary reality and, above all, to the Romantic tradition.
Kontekstem prowadzonych badań nad percepcją rzeczywistości fonicznej prezentowanej w wierszu Mochnacki Jana Lechonia są interdyscyplinarne badania nad dźwiękiem (sound studies). Korzystam z ustaleń muzykologów, krytyków muzycznych, psychologów muzyki, psychoakustyków oraz literaturoznawców. Postrzegam osobę mówiącą w kategorii Schaferowskiego „nausznego świadka”, werbalizującego swoje przeżycia w mowie wiązanej. Analizując liryczny opis percepcji, biorę pod uwagę zarówno reakcje na pojedyncze dźwięki, jak i wewnętrzne obrazy, aktywizujące się podczas słuchania muzyki. Percepcja rzeczywistości akustycznej prezentowana w omawianym wierszu ujawnia nie tylko stosunek poety do sztuki dźwięku, ale również do rzeczywistości pozaliterackiej, a nade wszystko do tradycji romantycznej.

The macrosegregation process takes place during typical solidification of alloys. Fractions of alloy components in a liquid and solid sub-domains are time-dependent and determined by the course of border lines on the equilibrium diagram. From the mathematical point of view, the process is described by a system of partial differential equations (diffusion equations) and boundary-initial conditions. The process is coupled with the solidification one. In this paper, simplified models of macrosegregation are discussed. The volumetric solidification and the 'sharp' solid-liquid interface are considered. Examples of computations are also shown. It seems that for practical applications, the methods proposed are sufficiently exact. Additionally, they are very simple for numerical realization.
W pracy przedstawiono opis matematyczny procesu segregacji składników stopowych w objętości krzepnącego odlewu. Wskazano na trudności związane z rozwiązaniem odpowiedniego problemu brzegowo-początkowego, a w dalszej części artykułu przedstawiono propozycje rozwiązań przybliżonych. Rozpatrywano zarówno problem krzepnięcia objętościowego, jak i klasyczne zadanie Stefana. Rozważania teoretyczne zilustrowano przykładami obliczeń numerycznych.

Paul Hamilton przedstawił w książce Realpoetik… pomysłową próbę rewizji europejskiego romantyzmu. W swoim komparatystycznym studium zinterpretował twórczość niemieckich, francuskich i włoskich romantyków jako silnie, choć aluzyjnie upolitycznione (uwarunkowania i konsekwencje kongresu wiedeńskiego stanowią najważniejszy kontekst dla wywodów brytyjskiego badacza) rozwinięcie dawniejszego etosu republiki uczonych, a zarazem świadectwo polemicznej lektury filozofii Immanuela Kanta, przede wszystkim zaś Krytyki władzy sądzenia. Artykuł podejmuje próbę przetestowania poręczności koncepcji Hamiltona w refleksji nad literaturą polskiego romantyzmu. Istnieje wiele przeszkód w łatwej asymilacji tytułowej idei Realpoetik. Są nimi m.in. słaba i z reguły nieufna recepcja pism Kanta, ograniczona żywotność brytyjskich kontekstów literackich, stanowiących dla Hamiltona kluczowy, negatywny punkt odniesienia, oraz, być może przede wszystkim, naturalna i niewymagająca szerokich uzasadnień polityczność rodzimego romantyzmu. Na przykładzie twórczości Maurycego Mochnackiego można wykazać, że pomimo trudności w zastosowaniu tez z książki Realpoetik… na rodzimym gruncie, mogą się one okazać inspirujące w lekturze dzieł polskich romantyków, a nawet więcej, uzupełniają obraz nakreślony przez Hamiltona o ważną, a przemilczaną słowiańską perspektywę.
In his book Realpoetik... Paul Hamilton presents an ingenious attempt at a revision of European Romanticism. This comparative study interprets the works of German, French, and Italian romanticists as a strong, allusively politicized (for Hamilton the conditions and consequences of the Congress of Vienna are the most important context) development of the former ethos of the republic of letters, and at the same time evidence of polemic reading of Kant’s philosophy, especially Critique of Judgment. The paper attempts to present the usefulness of Hamilton’s concepts in the reflection on the Polish romantic literature. There are many obstacles that prevent an easy assimilation of Realpoetik, the title idea, such as poor and typically distrustful reception of Kant’s philosophy, the limited liveliness of the British literary contexts (which are Hamilton’s major negative point of reference), and, perhaps most importantly, the heavily political Polish Romanticism. The example of Maurycy Mochnacki allows to show that despite the difficulties with applying the theses from Realpoetik… on the Polish ground, they can still prove to be inspiring in reading the works of the Polish romanticists, and moreover, they complete the picture presented by Hamilton with an important, Slavonic perspective.

Metaphors of Poetry in Polish Literary Criticism in the Romantic Era] by Marek Stanisz. The review emphasizes the immense documentary and analytical value of this study, especially the broad discussion of statements made by Romantic literary critics about poetry and the concept of the poet. At the same time, the review polemicizes with the claim that original metaphors constitute the semantic core of Polish Romantic criticism.

This paper is a continuation of a cycle dedicated to the description of the share of borrowings in the vocabulary of Rozprawy literackie (Literary treaties) by M. Mochnacki. The author discusses the issue of influences of other foreign languages (mainly from: English, Czech, Russian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Hungarian, Italian) by, among others, indicating the methods of adaptation of the discussed borrowings to Polish, confi rming their occurrence in lexicographic sources of the epoch, and carrying out a semantic analysis of the vocabulary with the use of lexical and semantic fi elds. Based on the presented material, the researcher ascertains that, in the diachronic profi le, the presented material illustrates two periods of acquiring new lexical units to the Polish language: until the end of the 18th c. and the turn and the beginning of the 19th c. Moreover, the author states that the discussed lexical resource is not innovative as the lexemes derived from the enumerated languages, which are used by M. Mochnacki, belong to the standard variant of the 19th-century Polish language. The conducted analysis falls into the stream of research dedicated to the lexis of the 19th-century language.

This paper is a continuation of a cycle dedicated to discussing the share of borrowings in the vocabulary of Rozprawy literackie (Literary Treaties) by M. Mochnacki. The analysis falls into the stream of research dedicated to the lexis of the 19th-century language. The author discusses the issue of the influence of German through i.a. indicating the methods of adapting the discussed borrowings to Polish, confirming their presence in lexicographic sources of the epoch, and carrying out a semantic analysis of the vocabulary with the use of lexical and semantic fields. Based on the presented material, the researcher concludes that the discussed lexical resource cannot be considered an innovative one since the lexemes of German origin used by Mochnacki are part of the standard, general variant of the 19th-century Polish language.

Opis:
The Cattaneo-Vernotte equation describing the heat conduction process in domain of solid body results from the generalization of the well - known Fourier law, in which the delay time’ (relaxation time τq) is introduced. The Cattaneo-Vernotte equation should be, among others, used in a case of microscale heat transfer analysis when the thermal processes are characterized by the extremely short duration (e.g. ultrafast laser pulse), the considerable temperature gradients and the very small dimensions (e.g. thin metal film). In the paper the problem of relaxation time identification is considered. In particular, the heat conduction process proceeding in domain of thin metal film subjected to a laser pulse is analyzed. The inverse problem solution is obtained using the evolutionary algorithms. The information concerning the time-dependent temperature distribution on the surface of metal film is assumed to be known. At the stage of numerical computations the finite difference method (FDM) is applied. In the final part of the paper the example of computations is shown.

In the paper the problem of the cast iron substitute thermal capacity estimation is discussed. This parameter appears when the macroscopic mathematical model of alloys solidification bases on the one domain method (fixed domain approach). In the case of cast iron the form of function describing the course of temperature-dependent thermal capacity is quite complex. Using the experimental data, in particular the measured cooling, heating curves at the set of points selected in the casting – mould domain the identification problem has been solved using the gradient methods. The results presented concern the gray iron 3.21% C and 1.9% Si.

The energy equation corresponding to the dual phase lag model (DPLM) results from the generalized form of the Fourier law, in which the two ‘delay times’ (relaxation and thermalization time) are introduced. The DPLM should be used in the case of microscale heat transfer analysis, in particular when thermal processes are characterized by extremely short duration (e.g. ultrafast laser pulse), considerable temperature gradients and very small dimensions (e.g. thin metal film). In this paper, the problem of relaxation and thermalization time identification is discussed, at the same time the heat transfer processes proceeding in the domain of a thin metal film subjected to a laser beam are analyzed. The solution presented bases on the application of evolutionary algorithms. The additional information concerning the transient temperature distribution on a metal film surface is assumed to be known. At the stage of numerical realization, the finite difference method (FDM) is used. In the final part of the paper, an example of computations is presented.

Thermal processes in the domain of a human forearm are considered. The external surface of forearm is in the direct thermal contact with the environment. The steady state problem is considered. From the mathematical point of view, the task is described by the system of the Poisson-type equations, the boundary conditions given on the contact surface between tissue sub-domains, the boundary conditions determining heat transfer between blood vessels and tissue and the boundary conditions on the external surface of the system. The non-homogeneous forearm domain is reconstructed as accurately as possible (3D task). At the stage of numerical modelling, the finite element method has been used. In the final part of the paper the example of computations is presented.

This paper is dedicated to lexical issues and focuses on describing the phenomenon of the life of words over more than two centuries (from the beginning of the 19th c. to the fi rst decade of the 21st c.). The object of the research is the corpus of texts constituting Rozprawy literackie (Literary treatises) by M. Mochnacki. The aim of the research is to identify and discuss forgotten words, that is such lexical units or their individual meanings as have become obsolete or have gone out of use completely. The analysis falls into the stream of structuralist research and has been performed with the application of the diachronic method.

In the paper, the problem of identification of substitute thermal capacity C(T) is discussed. This parameter appears in the case of modelling of the solidification process on the basis of one domain approach (fixed domain method). Substitute thermal capacity (STC) can be approximated, among others, by a staircase function and this case is considered. So, it is assumed that in the mathematical model describing thermal processes in the system considered the parameters of STC are unknown. On the basis of additional information concerning the cooling (heating) curves at a selected set of points, the unknown parameters can be found. The inverse problem is solved by using the least squares criterion, in which the sensitivity coefficients are applied. On the stage of numerical simulation, the boundary element method is used. In the final part of the paper, examples of computations are shown.
W pracy omówiono problem identyfikacji parametru nazywanego zastępczą pojemnością cieplną stopu. Zastępcza pojemność pojawia się w przypadku modelowania krzepnięcia stopów (a również czystych metali) na podstawie opisu matematycznego nazywanego metodą jednego obszaru. Przebieg tej funkcji można aproksymować na wiele sposobów, w pracy wykorzystano aproksymację funkcją kawałkami stałą. Założono, że przedmiotem identyfikacji są wartości kolejnych "schodków" tworzących pojemność zastępczą. Dodatkową informacją niezbędną do rozwiązania zadania odwrotnego są krzywe stygnięcia w wybranych punktach z obszaru krzepnącego i stygnącego metalu. Problem rozwiązano wykorzystując kryterium najmniejszych kwadratów, do którego wprowadzono współczynniki wrażliwości. Zadanie podstawowe i zadania analizy wrażliwości rozwiązano metodami numerycznymi, a w szczególności metodą elementów brzegowych. W końcowej części pracy pokazano przykład obliczeń (zadanie 2D).

Thermal comfort according to the ISO 7730 standards is defined in the following way: it is the situation of the mind condition expressing satisfaction with the thermal situation in man’s environment (thermal neutrality). This definition is of the verbal character and specialists put a lot of effort to express it in the language of mathematics and physics. The work will present the bases of the numerical approach to thermal comfort and particularly the PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) parameter determining comfort conditions in the seven-level scale (or derogations from these conditions). The present work is of the overview character and the appropriate equations leading to determining PMV were taken from literature. The authors’ own contribution is a computer programme in the Delphi language supporting calculating this indicator.
Komfort cieplny wg standardów ISO 7730 [4] definiowany jest następująco: jest to sytuacja stanu umysłu wyrażająca satysfakcję z termicznej sytuacji w otoczeniu człowieka (neutralność cieplna). Ta definicja ma charakter werbalny i specjaliści włożyli wiele wysiłku, aby wyrazić ją językiem matematyki i fizyki. W pracy przedstawione zostaną podstawy liczbowego podejścia do problemu komfortu cieplnego, a w szczególności parametru PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) determinującego w siedmio-stopniowej skali warunki komfortu (lub odstępstwa od tych warunków). Prezentowana praca ma charakter przeglądowy i odpowiednie równania prowadzące do wyznaczenia PMV zaczerpnięto z literatury. Udziałem własnym autorów jest program komputerowy w języku Delphi wspomagający obliczenia tego wskaźnika.

In the paper, the problem concerning the numerical modeling of thermal processes in the domain of a biological tissue being in thermal contact with the environment is discussed. The changing ambient temperature causes that the non-steady heat transfer process is con- sidered. The cross-section of the forearm (2D problem) is treated as a non-homogeneous domain in which the sub-domains of skin tissue, fat, muscle and bone are distinguished. From the mathematical point of view, the boundary-initial problem described by the system of energy equations (the Pennes equations), boundary conditions on the external surface of the system, boundary conditions on the surfaces limiting the successive sub-domains and the initial condition is analyzed. At the stage of numerical computations, the Control Volume Method using the Voronoi polygons is applied. In the final part of the paper, examples of computations are shown.

The second-order dual phase lag equation (DPLE) as a mathematical model of the microscale heat transfer is considered. It is known that the starting point determining the final form of this equation is the generalized Fourier law in which two positive constants (the relaxation and thermalization times) appear. Depending on the order of the generalized Fourier law expansion into the Taylor series, different forms of the DPLE can be obtained. As an example of the problem described by the second-order DPLE equation, thermal processes proceeding in the domain of a thin metal film subjected to a laser pulse are considered. The numerical algorithm is based on an implicit scheme of the finite difference method. At the stage of numerical modeling, the first, second and mixed order of the dual phase lag equation are considered. In the final part of the paper, examples of different solutions are presented and conclusions are formulated.

In the first part of this paper mathematical description of heat transfer processes proceeding in the domain of continuous casting is presented. The approach called the second generation modelling is taken into account. In particular, the capacity of a source function in the energy equation is determined by the nucleation and growth laws and the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorow theory. Next, on the basis of the methods of sensitivity analysis the influence of cooling conditions of the cast slab surface on the course of solidification process is analyzed. At the stage of numerical computations the boundary element method has been used. In the final part of the paper an example of computations is presented.
W pierwszej części pracy przedstawiono opis matematyczny krzepnięcia wlewka ciągłego wytwarzanego z czystego matalu. Do opisu wykorzystano podeście nazywane modelem drugiej generacji. W szczególności, wydajność wewnętrznych źródeł ciepła będąca składnikiem równania energii jest wyznaczana na podstawie praw zarodkowania i wzrostu oraz teorii Johnsona-Mehla-Avrami-Kołomogorowa. Następnie, wykorzystując metodę bezpośrednią analizy wrażliwości, badano wpływ warunków chłodzenia powierzchni wlewka na proces jego krzepnięcia. Na etapie obliczeń numerycznych zastosowano metodę elementów brzegowych. W końcowej części pracy pokazano przykład obliczeń numerycznych.

In the paper a numerical algorithm based on the boundary element method is used for temperature field computations in the non-homogeneous domain being a composition of healthy tissue and a tumor region. Thermophysical parameters of subdomains, in particular the perfusion coefficients and metabolic heat sources are different. From the mathematical point of view the problem is described by a system of two Poisson's equations with temperature-dependent source functions. These equations are supplemented by adequate boundary conditions. The discussed algorithm allows one to determine the temperature distribution on the surface of the skin. In this way it is possible to analyse the dependence brtween the geometrical features of the tumor region and the external thermal effects. The results can be useful as the information for noninvasive diagnostics. In the final part of the paper examples of computations are shown.
Algorytm numeryczny bazujący na metodzie elementów brzegowych wykorzystano do obliczeń rozkładów remperatury w obszarze niejednorodnym, składającym się ze zdrowej tkanki i podobszaru nowotworowego. Parametry termofizyczne tych podobszarów są zróżnicowane, a w szczególności różnią się współczynniki perfuzji krwi oraz składniki źródłowe związane z metabolizmem. Z matematycznego punktu widzenia rozważane zagadnienie opisane jest układem dwóch równań z zależnymi od temperatury składnikami źródłowymi. Równania te uzupełniają odpowiednie warunki brzegowe. Przedstawiony algorytm pozwala określić rozkład temperatury na powierzchni tkanki skórnej. W ten sposób można analizować zależności między wielkością, kształtem i położeniem podobszaru nowotworowego, a zewnętrznymi efektami termicznymi. Uzyskane wyniki mogą być przydatne w diagnostyce nieinwazyjnej. W końcowej części artykułu przedstawiono przykłady obliczeń.

Opis:
Thermal and differential analysis (TDA) is often used as a tool for quantitative estimation of solidification parameters of alloys (e.g. temperatures corresponding to the beginning and the end of phase change, kinetics of latent heat evolution, etc). TDA system offers a possibility of observation of the cooling (heating) rate, which means that the course of derivative ∂T/∂t can be analyzed. In this paper, the identification of alloy latent heat on the basis of additional information resulting from TDA measurements is discussed. At the stage of numerical modelling, the finite difference method (FDM) is used, the examples of computations are also shown.
Analiza termiczno-derywacyjna (ATD) stanowi efektywne narzędzie ilościowej oceny parametrów krzepnięcia stopów odlewniczych (np. temperatury początku i końca krzepnięcia, kinetyki wydzielania się ciepła przemiany, itd.). Urządzenie ATD daje możliwość obserwacji krzywych stygnięcia (nagrzewania) oraz szybkości tych procesów, czyli można również obserwować zmiany pochodnej temperatury względem czasu (∂T/∂t ). W niniejszej pracy rozpatruje się zadanie dotyczące identyfikacji utajonego ciepła krzepnięcia stopów na podstawie informacji wynikających z pomiarów realizowanych urządzeniem ATD. Na etapie obliczeń numerycznych wykorzystano metodę różnic skończonych dla nieliniowych zadań nieustalonego przewodzenia ciepła. W końcowej części pracy przedstawiono wyniki identyfikacji utajonego ciepła krzepnięcia staliwa.

In the paper the numerical model of heat transfer in non-homogeneous domain (cast composite) is considered. The composite is formed by the spherical particles (Pb) and the metal matrix (Al). Initial temperatures of components correspond to solid state (particle) and liquid one (matrix). The heat is transferred from the aluminum matrix and absorbed by the lead particle. The 3D problem, i.e. the cubic control volume with single spherical particle located at the center part of the cube, is considered. A numerical algorithm corresponding to the discussed mathematical model of the boundary-initial problem is constructed on the basis of control volume method and some examples of numerical results are shown.
Praca dotyczy wymiany ciepła pomiędzy osnową i cząstkami tworzącymi materiał kompozytowy. W szczególności rozpatrywana jest objętość kontrolna (Al) w kształcie sześcianu, w którego środku umieszczona zostaje cząstka (Pb). Wymiary rozpatrywanej objętości kontrolnej zależą od gęstości cząstek wprowadzonych do osnowy. Założono, że objętość kontrolna umieszczona jest w centralnej części odlewanego kompozytu oraz, że warunki brzegowe zadane na powierzchni odlewu i formy nie wpływają na procesy cieplne w tej objętości. Oznacza to, że warunki przyjęte na powierzchniach granicznych sześcianu to warunki adiabatyczne. Równania różniczkowe i warunki brzegowe zapisano w konwencji entalpowej zakładając, że krzepnięcie osnowy i topnienie cząstek zachodzą w stałej temperaturze. Rozpatrywaną objętość kontrolną dzielono na 503 sześcianów. Do obliczeń numerycznych wykorzystano metodę bilansów elementarnych, przyjmując że pola temperatur w ciekłej osnowie i cząstce ołowianej są znane w chwili początkowej oraz, że kontakt między podobszarami układu jest idealny. W trakcie procesu obserwowano topnienie cząstki ołowianej i stygnięcie osnowy. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki symulacji numerycznych w postaci krzywych nagrzewania i stygnięcia w wybranych punktach obszarów, jak również przebieg izoterm w przekroju kompozytu dla kilku wybranych czasów. Ponadto zbadano wpływ zmian udziału objętościowego cząstki w osnowie na przebieg procesu wymiany ciepła.

Opis:
Generalization of Fourier law, in particular the introduction of two ‘delay times’ (relaxation time τq and thermalization time τT) leads to the new form of energy equation called the dual-phase-lag model (DPLM). This equation should be applied in a case of microscale heat transfer modeling. In particular, DPLM constitutes a good approximation of thermal processes which are characterized by extremely short duration (e.g. ultrafast laser pulse), extreme temperature gradients and geometrical features of domain considered (e.g. thin metal film). The aim of considerations presented in this paper is the identification of two above mentioned positive constants τq, τT. They correspond to the relaxation time, which is the mean time for electrons to change their energy states and the thermalization time, which is the mean time required for electrons and lattice to reach equilibrium. In this paper the DPLM equation is applied for analysis of thermal processes proceeding in a thin metal film subjected to a laser beam. At the stage of computations connected with the identification problem solution the evolutionary algorithms are used. To solve the problem the additional information concerning the transient temperature distribution on a metal film surface is assumed to be known.

Opis:
Purpose: This paper deals with the mathematical modeling of the thermal processes occurring in the tooth, during a very brief contact (a few seconds) with a very cold liquid on a part of the tooth crown. In this way one can simulate a heat transfer in tooth proceeding during a dental diagnostic test - pulp vitality testing. The impact of rapid ambient thermal changes acting on the tooth can cause toothache. Methods: The mathematical model: a system of partial differential equations with initialboundary conditions (the axially-symmetrical problem) and their numerical solutions using the control volume method is discussed. Results: Simulation results of the kinetics of the temperature changes inside the tooth are presented. The example of the control volume mesh (using the Voronoi polygons) well describing the shape of a molar tooth is given. Conclusions: The simulation results (the temperature distribution in the tooth at any moment of the simulation time and the kinetics of temperature variation at the points of the considered tooth domain) can help dentists in the selection of an appropriate method of treatment.
