Opis:
In the last years designers have mainly concentrated on low power consumption in mobile computing devices and cellular phones. In this paper, new solutions for reducing the switching activity of BIST environment for the scan-organized Built-In Self-Test (BIST) architectures is presented. The key idea behind this technique is based on the design of a new structure of LFSR to generate more than one pseudo random bit per one clock pulse. Theoretical calculations were hardware verified in two digital system design environments: WebPACK ISE by Xilinx and Quartus II by Altera. Power consumption measure tools were Xilinx XPower and Altera PowerPlay Power Analyzer Tool. The practical verification covers the power consumption of the Test Pattern Generator (TPG) as well as the complete BIST. The obtained results are over a dozen percent better compared to similar works.

In this paper, a new 11T SRAM cell using FinFET technology has been proposed, the basic component of the cell is the 6T SRAM cell with 4 NMOS access transistors to improve the stability and also makes it a dual port memory cell. The proposed cell uses a header scheme in which one extra PMOS transistor is used which is biased at different voltages to improve the read and write stability thus, helps in reducing the leakage power and active power. The cell shows improvement in RSNM (Read Static Noise Margin) with LP8T by 2.39x at sub-threshold voltage 2.68x with D6T SRAM cell, 5.5x with TG8T. The WSNM (Write Static Noise Margin) and HM (Hold Margin) of the SRAM cell at 0.9V is 306mV and 384mV. At sub-threshold operation also it shows improvement. The Leakage power reduced by 0.125x with LP8T, 0.022x with D6T SRAM cell, TG8T and SE8T. Also, impact of process variation on cell stability is discussed.

Opis:
This paper presents the design aspects of low power digital PLL. The performance determining parameters of a digital PLL are lock range, capture range, jitter in generated output signal and power consumption. Its performance is mainly governed by two building blocks namely the voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) and phase detector. We have performed the complete analysis of phase noise and power consumption of current starved VCO, a novel D flip-flop based phase detector and transmission gate based charge pump. We have introduced a charge pump which is giving a remarkable reduction in reference spur. As PLL is used for many applications like as a frequency synthesizer, for clock deskewing, for jitter reduction, in FM radios so everyone demands a low cost low power highly integrated PLL design. Best efforts have been made to design a MOSFET based low power, low cost GHz range digital PLL. The main objective of this paper is to design a low power digital PLL which produces a very stable clock signal having jitter less than 1ps, power consumption less than 805uw ,output frequency ranged from 0 to380MHz at a supply voltage of 1.8V.

The aim of this paper is to present a novel microwave microplasma source generated in different gases at atmospheric pressure. The design, rule of operation and experimental investigations of the new microwave microplasma source are described. The main advantage of the presented microwave microplasma source is its small size, simplicity, and low cost of construction and operation. The microplasma has a form of a small plasma jet of dimensions of a few mm, depending on the kind of gas, gas flow rate, and absorbed microwave power. Presented in this paper results of experimental investigations were obtained with an atmospheric pressure argon, krypton, nitrogen, and air microplasma, sustained by microwaves of standard frequency of 2.45 GHz. The absorbed microwave power was up to 70 W. The gas flow rate was from 2 to 25 l/min. The miniature size, simplicity of the source and stability of the microplasma allow to conclude that the presented new microwave microplasma source can find practical applications in various fields.

This paper presents techniques introduced to minimize both power and silicon area of the multichannel integrated recording circuits dedicated to biomedical experiments. The proposed methods were employed in multichannel integrated circuit fabricated in CMOS 180nm process and were validated with the use of a wide range of measurements. The results show that both a single recording channel and correction blocks occupy about 0.061 mm2 of the area and consume only 8.5 μW of power. The input referred noise is equal to 4.6 μVRMS. With the use of additional digital circuitry, each of the recording channels may be independently configured. The lower cut-off frequency may be set within the range of 0.1 Hz–700 Hz, while the upper cut-off frequency, depending on the recording mode chosen, can be set either to 3 kHz/13 kHz or may be tuned in the 2 Hz–400 Hz range. The described methods were introduced in the 64-channel integrated circuit. The key aspect of the proposed design is the fact that proposed techniques do not limit functionality of the system and do not deteriorate its overall parameters.

Rising requirements for a new constructions, force engineers to monitor them all day long. An attractive solution seems to be applications of wireless sensors. However, there is a barrier limiting their application, which is the need to supply them with an electrical power over extended period of time without using additional wiring or batteries. The potential solution of this problem seems to be an energy harvesting. This paper proposes a new energy harvesting device based on magnetostrictive material. In the course of the experiments with using Terfenol-D rods as actuators and sensors it has been shown, that the mechanical impact to the magnetic core based on Terfenol-D rod, NdFeB permanent magnets and coil set allowed to obtain an electric power signal enough to supply device of 100 Ohm load on their active state.

The technology of CMOS very large-scale integrated circuits (VLSI's) achieved remarkable advances over the last 25 years and the progress is expected to continue well into this century. The progress has been driven by the downsizing of the key devices: MOSFETs. Approaching these dimensions, MOSFET characteristics cannot be accurately predicted using classical modeling methods currently used in the most common MOSFET models such as BSIM3/4, EKV v2.6, HiMOS, MOS9 etc., without introducing large number of empirical parameters. Various physical effects that are needed to be considered while modeling UDSM devices: quantization of the inversion layer, mobility degradation, carrier velocity saturation and overshoot, polydepletion effects, bias dependent source/drain resistances and capacitances, vertical and lateral doping profiles, etc. In this paper, we will discuss the progress in CMOS technology and anticipated difficulties of the sub-O.25 um VLSI downsizing. Subsequently, basic MOSFET modeling methodologies that are more appropriate for low power and RF analogue applications of UDSM MOSFETs will be presented as well.

The aim of the research was to demonstrate differences in the content of trace elements (U, Th, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Ge, As, Se, Cd, Mo, Hg, Pb, W, Ba) in coal mined in Poland and coal imported from Russia, which are widely available on the market. Ecophile, cube and nut were selected for the research. Among them 3 come from Russia and 3 from Poland. The samples were mineralized and the heavy metal content was determined with the use of mass spectrometry with excitation in induced plasma. The research allowed us to conclude that the same carbon grades showed completely different metal contents and depended on the place of origin. The greatest amount of trace elements was found to be found in ecophysics from Poland (durin). Relatively large contamination with trace elements was also found in Polish peach (window) and in Russian walnut. A relatively high content of uranium was found in three samples, including the ecophyses. When burning coal, even of high quality, we expose the environment to the burden of trace elements, including radioactive elements present in their composition. Heavy metals from coal combustion constantly accumulate in the environment and so far no standards have been established for their content in this fuel.

In this paper, we proposed an efficient full adder circuit using 16 transistors. The proposed high-speed adder circuit is able to operate at very low voltage and maintain the proper output voltage swing and also balance the power consumption and speed. Proposed design is based on CMOS mixed threshold voltage logic (MTVL) and implemented in 180nm CMOS technology. In the proposed technique the most time-consuming and power consuming XOR gates and multiplexer are designed using MTVL scheme. The maximum average power consumed by the proposed circuit is 6.94μW at 1.8V supply voltage and frequency of 500 MHz, which is less than other conventional methods. Power, delay, and area are optimized by using pass transistor logic and verified using the SPICE simulation tool at desired broad frequency range. It is also observed that the proposed design may be successfully utilized in many cases, especially whenever the lowest power consumption and delay are aimed.

Nowadays during organizing built-in self testing the most spread and best known are scan design techniques based on the full or partly scanning path. The first testing vector is put into testing system by SP (Scanning Path) data. Shifting information takes place during clock pulses, and the number of shifts is equal to the number of flip-flops in SP. Then, one synchronization pulse is used to write system changes in adequate SP positions. Next, SP values are applied to the output of the circuits, and at the same time on the date input SP follow next testing vector. So, if the SP is built of k-elements, there are needed k+1 clock pulses to put one testing vector. This realization is non effective because of high power consumption. Firstly, in modern BIST systems there are used many D-flip flops (memory elements). Even when there are used many SPs, the number of positions in each SP can reach a few thousands. In this case to put a new testing vector it is necessary to use a few thousand of synchronization pulses. Simultaneously the high amount of energy is needed, because each new testing vector needs one synchronization pulse. Secondly, during shifting data in SP in a testing circuit there are empty switchings, which requires energy. So, to minimize the power consumption test-per-clock technique is used. In this paper the new idea of minimizing power dissipation in BIST with test-per-clock technique is presented. The main idea of the new solution is to stop putting synchronization pulses to flip-flops in which their state has not changed in the current synchronization pulses. It will allow eliminating not necessary switching activity in BIST and, what is more, it will allow to decrease power consumption and Weighted Switching Activity.

This paper describes the arithmetic blocks based on Montgomery Multiplier (MM), which reduces complexity, gives lower power dissipation and higher operating frequency. The main objective in designing these arithmetic blocks is to use modified full adder structure and carry save adder structure that can be implemented in algorithm based MM circuit. The conventional full adder design acts as a benchmark for comparison, the second is the modified Boolean equation for full adder and third design is the design of full adder consisting of two XOR gate and a 2-to-1 Multiplexer. Besides Universal gates such as NOR gate and NAND gate, full adder circuits are used to further improve the speed of the circuit. The MM circuit is evaluated based on different parameters such as operating frequency, power dissipation and area of occupancy in FPGA board. The schematic designs of the arithmetic components along with the MM architecture are constructed using Quartus II tool, while the simulation is done using Model sim for verification of circuit functionality which has shown improvement on the full adder design with two XOR gate and one 2-to-1 Multiplexer implementation in terms of power dissipation, operating frequency and area.

Opis:
At the moment, there is a growing interest in low-power generating units in dispersed system. The production of energy in small units located in the vicinity of the energy recipients offers considerable benefits. First and foremost, it lowers the cost of energy production and the cost of its transfer and also makes the recipient independent from the domestic supplier. Small cogeneration aggregates will facilitate the use of energy from dispersed renewable resources. Gas self-ignition engines in cogeneration system powered with biofuels can be used in construction industry as ecological sources of heat and electrical energy, limiting the need for fossil fuels. This paper presents the possibility of using alternative fuels for internal combustion engines. It describes the possibility of using liquid biofuels separately or natural gas fuel to power diesel engines in dual fuel system. The conception of supplying low-power generator with diesel engine with natural gas to a dose of liquid biofuels test case. Pointed to the factors determining the desirability of a particular concept. Indicated the modification of the engine power to supply the natural gas generator with a dose of liquid biofuels. New technologies of extracting and using biofuels and alternative fuels are being introduced and developed for generating heat and electric energy. Studies on the use of gas and liquid alternative fuels are directly linked to research on the production of renewable and alternative energy as well as environment protection by minimizing emissions of toxic substances into the atmosphere.

The article presents the most important causes of energy losses in magnetic circuits of electrical machines and describes a new design of a synchronized induction motor. The basic operational parameters of two structures: induction machine with squirrel cage (IM) and newly designed machine with a rotor with permanent magnets and a copper squirrel cage (induction machine synchronized with self-starting (LSPMSM) have been identified and compared. Performance characteristics were determined for work in steady states. In both cases the stator, type Sg 100L-4B of 3 kW induction motor was used. It has been shown that the PSPMSM supplied from the public mains grid shows the efficiency approx. 5% higher than the conventional motor. The influence of the change in the supply voltage frequency on the work of both structures was tested, i.e. on the measured efficiency, power factor and the electricity from electrical grid. Studies have shown that the LSPMSM can be a replacement for an induction motor. It has been shown that the torque pulsations occurring in the new structure (cogging torque) do not increase the environmental risks.

Subject matter of this paper deals with issues of the environmental impact of infrasound noise associated with operation of low-power wind turbines. It is now the current and relevant problem for both the cognitive and utilitarian standpoint. There is now a considerable growth in the number of such installations in Poland, Europe and in the world, due to the possibility of locating them on existing building roofs in heavily urbanized areas, and without having to build additional supporting structures. As part of the study, measurements of low frequency acoustic signals generated during operation of micro turbine equipped with a rotor of vertical axis of rotation relative to the wind direction have been performed. Analyses were carried out in order to determine the impact of wind speed and selected meteorological parameters on the level of infrasound signals emitted by the test turbine. In addition, frequency analysis of the recorded signals was performed. Then, the obtained results were subjected to comparative analysis. In summary, the achieved results were referred to the limits of sound pressure intensity level of infrasound signals as specified for the working environment in accordance with the Polish Standard PN-Z-01338.

A novel low power Switched Capacitor Integrator with reduced effective input capacitance is proposed in this paper. It is mainly based on reducing the effective input sampling capacitance by charge sharing with an extra capacitance, such that the integration capacitance can be chosen much smaller while maintaining the same sampling to integration capacitance ratio. Reducing the integration capacitance will result in less integration current and less integration current will in turn result in less power over the integrator which is the main goal of this work, reducing the integrator power consumption and chip area. Another main advantage of this configuration is, that it can be used in large time constant integrators without using physically large integration capacitance.

A falling particle in the digital registration systems for elementary particles active pixel detector induces electric charge, the value of which describes the parameters of the particle in the detector. Since the electric charge induced by a single particle is relatively weak, the detector signal is first processed (amplified and shaped) right in the zone of irradiation and only then transmitted further. This paper analyses the primary analogical registration electronics for digital registration systems for elementary particles active pixel detectors, which is charge sensitive amplifiers operating in the nanoampere region.

This paper presents a test stand equipped, among others, with two boilers intended for the combustion of solid fuels. The first is a single-fuel boiler designed to burn wood pellets only. The second is a multi-fuel boiler intended for the combustion of mainly hard coal (basic fuel) with the grain size of 0.005–0.025 m. Wood pellets can also be fired in this boiler, which in such a case are treated as a substitute fuel. There is a developed and verified algorithm for the control of the multi-fuel boiler operation in a wide range of loads for the basic fuel. However, for the substitute fuel (wood pellets) there are no documented and confirmed results of such testing. The paper presents selected results of testing performed during the combustion of wood pellets in a multi-fuel automatically stoked boiler. Several measuring series were carried out, for which optimal operating conditions were indicated. These conditions may serve as the basis for the development of the boiler operation control algorithm. A detailed analysis was carried out of the flue gas temperatures obtained at the outlet of the boiler combustion chamber and of the contents of carbon monoxide and oxygen in the boiler flue gases.

This paper describes a power plant with electrical/thermal capacity of 750 kW/3.4 MW launched in February 2015 by a private investor in Żory, Poland. The ORC Organic Rankine Cycle technology used there enables turbine operation at a lower temperature of the heat medium (thermal oil), so the energy transformation is better suited for biomass combustion. In addition, an innovative solution has been applied, consisting in directing the thermal oil downstream of the turbine to a heat receiver (dryer), instead of a cooling tower, as in traditional solutions. Such a solution significantly improves the CHP plant’s overall efficiency, but it also affects its electric output adjustability. The paper also reports the experience from the plant design and construction phases.
Artykuł opisuje elektrociepłownię o mocy elektrycznej do 750 kW i mocy cieplnej 3,4 MW, uruchomioną w lutym 2015 roku przez prywatnego inwestora w Żorach. In this paper, we present a method of a synthesis of adaptive schedulers for real-time embedded systems. We assume that the system is implemented using a multi-core embedded processor with low-power processing capabilities. First, the developmental genetic programming is used to generate the scheduler and the initial schedule. Then during the system execution, the scheduler modifies the schedule whenever the execution time of the recently finished task has been shorter or longer than expected. The goal of rescheduling is to minimize the power consumption while all time constraints will be satisfied. We present a real-life example as well as some experimental results showing the advantages of the method.

This paper discusses the free vibrations of the low-power gear which is dedicated to cooperate with the hydraulic pump of the test rig. The finite element (FE) method and the commercial ANSYS software are employed. The vibration analysis of the discussed system is performed in two stages. Firstly the natural frequencies of the free transverse vibration of the gears are obtained with including the centrifugal effect. Next, on the basis of the elaborated Campbell diagrams, the excitation speeds for selected natural frequencies of the analyzed wheels are obtained. Then, the free vibrations of the reduction gear are analyzed and two computational cases are discussed. In the first computing case, only the mass and geometry of all parts of the body are taken into account. In the second case, the mass of the toothed gears is also included. Based on the elaborated FE models, the first ten natural frequencies and natural mode shapes of the reduction gear are obtained. Then, these results are used to estimate the stress level in the walls of the body for the permissible acceleration value. Presented investigation can be attractive for design engineers dealing with the dynamics of complex systems.

Opis:
Aggregates of superparamagnetic nanoparticles, so called multicore particles get much attention due to collective magnetic behaviour. Despite the fact that saturation magnetization and coercivity of multicore particles are lower than for single particles of comparable size, they can generate large amount of heat in alternating magnetic field. This makes them promising for magnetic hyperthermia. However, correlation between internal magnetic structure of multicore particles and their heating ability in alternating magnetic fields are not clear yet. Detailed experimental investigations are required to determine the optimal sizes of multicore particles and the alternating magnetic field parameters to obtain maximal heat. In this study, we demonstrated how hydrodynamic size of multicore particles influences alternating magnetic field energy absorption. Dense aggregates composed of bare magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles of 13 nm were obtained by coprecipitation. Further peptization allowed to gain aqueous dispersions of multicore particles with various hydrodynamic size, varing from 85 to 170 nm, due to electrostatic stabilization. Multicore particles dispersions have saturation magnetization of 40 A m²/kg_{Fe₃O₄} and coercivity of 79.6 A/m regardless of their size. Dispersion of 85 nm multicore particles is stable and provides specific loss power of 42 W/g_{Fe}. Further increase of hydrodynamic size leads to low stability and loss of the ability to generate heat in alternating magnetic field.

In this paper a new construction of the motor of small ventilator has been presented. Thanks to application of new neodyme magnets in the motor, it was able to obtain high efficiency of the motor. Such high efficiency allows ventilator to spare much more energy as compared to ventilator fitted with traditional asynchronous motor. However a new motor requires an application of electronic supplying system. At the assumption of constant price of the energy, the cost of this solution is reimbursed after four years. It was predicted that the energy drawing by individual receivers could be diminished by 2MW.

Opis:
An idea of using biomass for generating electricity and heat leads to new solutions for power generators, adapted to be supplied with gaseous and liquid biofuels. At present, there is a growing interest in low-power generators. This type of energy production is termed 'scattered energy generation'. It is expected that generating energy in small units situated close to energy consumers may bring about substantial benefits. It is assumed that in a scattered energy generation system, energy will be produced from local fuels, such as broadly understood biomass as a primary component for production of gaseous and liquid biofuels to power low-power energy generators. An adequate amount of biomass must be secured to ensure that biogas can be produced all year round. The easiest way to store highly efficient biomass is to ensile maize and rye as well as grass. The amounts of biogas obtained from these two types of silage are comparable. Using rye as a renewable energy source for production of either bioethanol or biogas is economically viable for at least two reasons: rye grows on poor class soils and rye cultivation technology can be reduced to just nitrogen fertilization. In conclusion, it seems reasonable to generate energy in Poland in scattered energy generation systems from crops grown for this purpose. Currently, gas-powered engines are being in several ways.

Opis:
This paper considers a Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) machine prototype with six poles and 36 stator slots including a three phase double-layered distributed winding. Presented modifications of rotor construction are identified in order to achieve the best possible compromise of eddy-current losses and cogging torque characteristics. The permanent magnet (PM) eddy-current loss is relatively low compared with the iron loss; it may cause significant heating of the PMs due to the relatively poor heat dissipation from the rotor and it results in partial irreversible demagnetization. A reduction in both losses is achieved by magnet segmentation mounted on the rotor. Various numbers of magnet segmentation is analysed. The presented work concerns the computation of the no-load iron loss in the stator, rotor yoke and eddy-current loss in the magnets. It is shown that the construction of the rotor with segmented magnets can significantly reduce the PM loss (eddy-current loss). The eddy-current loss in PMs is caused by several machine features; the winding structure and large stator slot openings cause flux den sity variations that induce eddy-currents in the PMs. The effect of these changes on the BLDC motor design is examined in order to improve the machine performance. 3-D finite-element analysis (FEA) is used to investigate the electromagnetic behaviour of the BLDC motor.

The article presents the results of experiments aimed at the identification of the influence of the share of phenol and amine resins in burnt fuel mixtures from wood waste along the basic parameters of the process of their thermal oxidation in a low- -power boiler. Differences in the composition of combustion gases from the burning of waste from “virgin” wood and plywood manufactured using urea-formaldehyde (UF) and phenol-formaldehyde (PF) glues were observed.
W trakcie eksperymentu zmieniano ilości dozowanego do paleniska powietrza w zakresie 50–140 m3. Stwierdzono, że spalaniu paliw drzewnych zawierających fenolowe żywice klejowe towarzyszyła wyższa zawartość tlenku węgla i węglowodorów, w porównaniu z paliwami zawierającymi żywice mocznikowe i „czyste” drewno. Zwiększanie ilości dozowanego powietrza przy spalaniu sklejki fenolowej powodowało znaczący spadek emisji tlenku węgla i węglowodorów w porównaniu z paliwami zawierającymi żywice mocznikowe, spalanymi w ten sam sposób. Przy spalaniu sklejki mocznikowej i dozowaniu powietrza z prędkością 140 m3/h stwierdzono około trzy razy wyższą zawartość tlenków azotu w gazach spalinowych w porównaniu z „czystym” drewnem i sklejką fenolową. Dodatek sklejki fenolowej do spalanej sklejki mocznikowej przy dozowaniu powietrza do paleniska z prędkością 140 m3/h spowodował znaczący spadek emisji Nox.

Research related to photovoltaic panels comprises different topics starting with modelling solar cells, finding new maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms, testing existing ones or designing of DC/DC converters for MPPT systems and microgrids that incorporate photovoltaic energy sources. In each of the examples above a deep knowledge of photovoltaic panels is required, as well as a reliable measurement system that can deliver continuous, stable light with enough power to meet standard test conditions (STC) and that can ensure repeatable results. Therefore this paper presents a low-cost solar simulator with a microcontroller-based measurement system, that can be used for various measurements of low-power photovoltaic panels.
