Opis:
The paper compares simulation results for direct and PWM control of DC motors in a tri-wheel mobile robot with a castor sliding wheel. Our aim was to determine to what extent PWM control changes the trajectory accuracy. For this purpose, we compare kinematic and dynamic control. To make the model more realistic, we considered the impact of viscous and rolling friction of driving wheels on the motion along the trajectory. We conclude that dynamic control is of higher quality as compared to kinematic control, and that there is a significant impact of PWM control on the trajectory accuracy.

The design of outdoor autonomous robots requires the careful consideration and integration of multiple aspects: sensors and sensor data fusion, design of a control and software architecture, design of a path planning algorithm and robot control. This paper describes partial aspects of this research work, which is aimed at developing a semiautonomous outdoor robot for risky interventions. This paper focuses on three main aspects of the design process: visual sensing using stereo vision and image motion analysis, design of a behaviourbased control architecture and implementation of modular software architecture.

In this article we propose the application of service mobile robots for control of building safety parameters. Indoor mobile robots are becoming a reality and their availability and applications are expected to grow rapidly in the near future. Such robots are usually equipped with cameras and laser range finders, which could be used to detect hazardous situations in their operating environment, such as evacuation route obstructions, emergency sign occlusions or accumulation of dangerous materials. We demonstrate how these safety-related augmentations of a mobile robot system can be achieved with few additional resources and validate experimentally the concept using an indoor robot for emergency sign and evacuation route control.

Various kinematic structures of WMRs important from the point of view of motion control are discussed. A hierarchical approach to the problem of motion control of this kind of robots is presented. The problems of trajectory tracking and path following control of WMRs are briefly discussed. The methods of predictive control of WMRs are described in detail and the following aspects relevant to predictive control are considered: kinematic structures of robots, slip of wheels and its compensation, assumed constraints, methods of optimization of the objective function, problems of model nonlinearity, linearization and discretization, stability of the control system and use of the state observers.

Opis:
Mobile robotic systems are becoming viable technologies for automating manufacturing processes in fields that traditionally have seen little automation. Such fields include pipeline construction, green energy development, infrastructure and shipbuilding. To operate in these environments, the mobile robotic platform must provide controlled motion of a manufacturing toolset over the surface of a structure which is generally non-planar. One such example is welding a seam along a non-flat ship hull where the surface may consist of sections resembling common geometric shapes such as cylinders or spheres and the tool must follow a path defined by the weld seam. This paper will present a kinematic control approach applicable to one mobile robot topology performing a task on a cylindrical surface. This method is readily generalized to other robot topologies or surface geometries. The method is based on a kinematic model that predicts the robot motion and configuration joint parameters while on a nonplanar surface with the desired motion prescribed in local tool space. The effort is motivated by a practical application of welding on steel hulls or other surfaces and the results will be compared with these empirical experiences. A discussion of how these results can be used to guide future design of mobile robot platforms for manufacturing is provided.

Formation control is an important part of any system that utilizes multiple mobile agents to achieve its parti‐ cular goals. One of those applications is the mobile wi‐ reless network sensor. This field has become increasingly more popular in recent times due to the advancement of technology, especially in the fields of miniaturization and telecommunications. The main problem of this research is the relatively untested sensing capability of a mobile wireless sensor network in an operating area that has dis‐ tributed and/or multiple locations of high interest. The purpose of this research is to discover the compatibility of a multiple‐agent coverage control system with several examples of interest functions that have multiple and/or distributed points of global maximum value in order to explore more thoroughly the performance of a given sy‐ stem in a varying environments.

This article proposes the construction of autonomous mobile robots and designing of obstacle avoidance algorithms for them. Nowadays, mobile robots are gaining more and more popularity on the customer as well as industrial market, for example as automatic vacuum cleaners or lawnmowers. Obstacle avoidance algorithms play an important role in performance of this types of robots. The proposed algorithms were designed for builds with rather not expensive electronic components, especially sensors with limited precision and dynamics. The project began with the selection of needed parts and building materials as well as designing of the PCB and assembling the whole construction. The project included also designing and developing the software responsible for, among others, implementation of obstacle avoidance algorithms. After the project’s completion, a series of tests in a closed environment was conducted to verify the quality of vehicles’ performance. Results of tests were positive.

The mobile manipulator has the potential to become an efficient industrial robot due to its mobility and dexterity. Moreover, it has expanded the operational area of the mobile manipulator due to its ability to work in a limited space. However, adaptability to unknown environments has still not been developed to date. Therefore, adaptation of the mobile manipulator for unknown environments especially for rough/irregular terrain is discussed in this paper. Information about the environment, a key factor when aiming for compliance with an unknown and/or unstructured environment, was collected using a reaction torque observer. In order to adapt to the environment, compliance control was applied to the mobile manipulator. In this paper, we present a novel control strategy we have developed that can deal with unknown environments through the effective use of inverted pendulum control. Simulation and experiments were carried out to ensure the validity of the proposed method. The method could be confirmed as effective according to the results obtained.

Opis:
The paper presents a sequential neural network (NN) identification scheme for the four-wheeled mobile robot subject to wheel slip. The sequential identification scheme, different from conventional methods of optimization of a cost function, attempts to ensure stability of the overall system while the neural network learns the nonlinearities of the mobile robot. An on-line weight learning algorithm is developed to adjust the weights so that the identified model can adapt to variations of the characteristics and operating points in the four-wheeled mobile robot. The proposed identification system that can guarantee stability is derived from the Lyapunov stability theory. Computer simulations have been conducted to illustrate the performance of the proposed solution by a series of experiments on the emulator of the wheeled mobile robot.

Opis:
Unmanned vehicles occupy more and more space in the human environment. Mobile robots, being a significant part thereof, generate high technological requirements in order to meet the requirements of the end user. The main focus of the end users both in civil, and so called “defense and security” areas in the broadly defined segments of the construction industry should be on safety and efficiency of unmanned vehicles. It creates some requirements for their drive and control systems being supported among others by vision, communication and navigation systems. It is also important to mention the importance of specific design of manipulators to be used to fulfill the construction tasks. Control technologies are among the critical technologies in the efforts to achieve these requirements. This paper presents test stations for testing control systems and remote control system for work tools in the function of teleoperator using the CAN bus and vehicles which use hydrostatic drive systems based on the Controller Area Network (CAN) standard. The paper examines the potential for using a CAN bus for the control systems of modern unmanned ground vehicles that can be used in construction, and what limitations would possibly prevent their full use. It is exactly crucial for potential users of unmanned vehicles for construction industry applications to know whether their specific requirements basing on the tasks typical in construction [9] may be fulfilled or not when using the CAN bus standard.

Three-dimensional scene reconstruction is an important tool in many applications varying from computer graphics to mobile robot navigation. In this paper, we focus on the robotics application, where the goal is to estimate the 3D rigid motion of a mobile robot and to reconstruct a dense three-dimensional scene representation. The reconstruction problem can be subdivided into a number of subproblems. First, the egomotion has to be estimated. For this, the camera (or robot) motion parameters are iteratively estimated by reconstruction of the epipolar geometry. Secondly, a dense depth map is calculated by fusing sparse depth information from point features and dense motion information from the optical flow in a variational framework. This depth map corresponds to a point cloud in 3D space, which can then be converted into a model to extract information for the robot navigation algorithm. Here, we present an integrated approach for the structure and egomotion estimation problem.
