Despite an emerging interest in work attitudes (job, career and calling), researchers know little about whether these attitudes matter in the workplace. We explore the under-examined relationship between work attitudes and work outcomes (work satisfaction and internal work motivation) among the teachers of Northwest A&F University China. Although some theory suggests that calling may be strongly correlated with work satisfaction, this study predicted that a career attitude is more positively associated with work satisfaction. The correlation analysis revealed a significant and positive relationship between career, calling and work outcomes as well as a significant and negative relationship between job and work outcomes. The multiple regression analysis indicated a significant impact of career and calling on work satisfaction but only calling has a significant impact on internal work motivation. Further, based on this study, we suggest that work attitudes as a predictor of work satisfaction can give very useful insights into redesigning jobs for the higher education sector in order to increase the level of job satisfaction and motivation of teachers.

Occupational prestige is one of the most explored research problems in history of sociology. However, the concept of prestige remains blurred (and in many questionnaires this word is replaced with other). In the research for my PhD thesis I aimed at constructing social definition of occupational prestige. I was mainly interested in individual perspective of members of occupational groups that are considered prestigious. My research plan was based on triangulation of methods and sources of data. In this paper I present results of my quantitative research and qualitative (IDI interviews) research.

The phenomenon of achieving or experiencing professional satisfaction carries a multitude of possibilities of interpretation. It is also determined by various factors. In this paper we assume that job satisfaction is an important aspect of teachers’ work quality. Perception of their work and the degree of work satisfaction affect the professional activity of teachers – the level of involvement and identification with the profession, creativity, motivation for development. The aim of the study, the results of which are presented in this article, is to search for relationships between autotelic and normative attitudes of teachers towards work and their work satisfaction. The study, which involved 367 teachers employed in Polish universities, is on linear relations and uses a hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The results of these studies made it possible to identify the main predictors of contemporary academics’ job satisfaction and confirmed the fact that the satisfaction is in the area of teaching and research, and depends – to a greater extent – on the presented attitude towards work rather than received social support and work atmosphere. Interpersonal relationships in the workplace, however, proved a major determinant of the level of satisfaction with the organizational work for the university.

We explore the relationships between job crafting approaches (task crafting, relational crafting and cognitive crafting) and work satisfaction among the faculty members of Northwest A&F University, Yangling, Shaanxi, China. The study reveals a significant and positive relationship between different types of job crafting and work satisfaction. Multiple regression analysis revealed a significant impression of task and relational crafting on work satisfaction but a non-significant impact of cognitive crafting on work satisfaction. Furthermore, the study indicates the importance of job crafting towards a higher level of satisfaction for teachers who are engaged in universities.

Research background: This article concerns job satisfaction considered as an important impulse affecting employee behavior, with particular emphasis on the analysis of the significance of the factors that shape it. Purpose of the article: The purpose of this paper is to analyze and evaluate environmental factors shaping job satisfaction in a company from the TSL industry. This article addresses the problem of job satisfaction, considered as an important impulse influencing employee behavior, with particular emphasis on the analysis of the importance of the factors that underlie it. The search for an answer to the question of what determines the satisfaction of the employee and whether the employees are diversified based on their preferences in this area, relied on own research carried out among employees of a transportation company. Methods: First of all, for each factor indicated in the questionnaire a measure was calculated ? weighted average number of points. Using the criterion of decreasing value of this measure, a ranking of the importance of factors shaping job satisfaction in the surveyed company was prepared. Secondly, in order to supplement the analyses, the correlation between general job satisfaction and particular factors of job satisfaction was examined. The values of Spearman's rank correlation coefficients and Kendall's tau coefficients (?-Kendall) were calculated. The correlation analysis allowed us to examine the strength and direction of the influence of 20 factors on the overall job satisfaction. Findings & Value added: The conducted research shows that the two most important factors necessary to achieve job satisfaction are access to information necessary for proper performance of work and independence in performing the entrusted tasks. The correlation analysis confirmed that in the surveyed company job satisfaction is shaped primarily by factors that influence the employees' needs related to affiliation. On the other hand, the correlation coefficients between general satisfaction and factors shaping the need for respect and recognition and self-fulfillment turned out to be statistically insignificant. Building job satisfaction requires identification of its sources and recognition of the nature of the relationship between general satisfaction and its determinants. Without knowledge of these factors and the extent to which they are responsible for employee satisfaction and dissatisfaction, actions taken by employers may turn out to be misguided and become only a source of costs and not the expected benefits. In conditions of limited resources, employers should optimize activities aimed at building employee satisfaction and focus their efforts on those attributes of the working environment, the modification of which will have the most desirable consequences.

Objectives Aim of this study was to assess and compare health, quality of life, well-being, job satisfaction and job insecurity between nurses, in a tertiary hospital in Greece, working either under permanent or temporary contract. Material and Methods In this cross-sectional study, consecutively recruited nurses answered a structured questionnaire, the WHO-5 Well-being Index (WHO-5), the Job Insecurity Index (JII), the Work Ability Index (WAI), and the Well-Being at Work Scale (WBWS). Results Included were 323 nurses (87.6% women, age M±SD 43.68±8.10 years). Temporary contract employees had worse quality of life (p = 0.009) and higher job insecurity: both in cognitive dimension (p = 0.013) and emotional dimension (p < 0.001). They also scored worse in the positive affect (p < 0.001), negative affect (p = 0.002) and fulfillment of expectations in work environment (p < 0.001) domains of the WBWS. Additionally, they reported less frequently occupational accidents and injuries (p = 0.001), musculoskeletal disorders of the spine or neck (p = 0.007), cardiovascular (p = 0.017), and gastrointestinal (p = 0.010) disorders, while they reported more frequently mental disorders (p < 0.001). Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that temporary work predicted high cognitive (p = 0.010) and emotional (p < 0.001) insecurity, low positive emotions and mood index (p = 0.007), low achievement-fulfillment index (p = 0.047) and high index of negative emotions (p = 0.006), regardless of gender and age. Conclusions Temporary employment among nurses is associated with a lower sense of job security and well-being, and a higher prevalence of mental disorders, independently of age or gender without a significantly negative effect on their ability to work. Managers, as well as occupational physicians, should recognize the extent of nurses’ job insecurity and assess their ability to work, to provide them with the necessary support and to stimulate the sense of occupational security and work capacity, so that they can thrive in their workplace and therefore be more productive and provide high quality healthcare.

Celem artykułu jest identyfikacja ryzyka i problemów zawodowych w grupie lekarzy medycyny. W części pierwszej autorka analizowała stopień ryzyka różnych czynników: niebezpiecznych (urazowych, wypadkowych), szkodliwych (fizyczne, chemiczne, biologiczne i psychofizyczne), a także wymagania stanowiskowe i możliwości rozwoju zawodowego w Polsce. W drugiej części, na bazie dostępnych wyników badań, zostały wskazane czynniki wpływające na stan zdrowia lekarzy, określone przez warunki pracy i godziny pracy, czynniki stresujące oraz uzależnienia. W trzeciej części zostały zaprezentowane aktualne dobre praktyki i możliwe ozwiązania tych problemów, które jednocześnie są przyjazne dla lekarzy.
The aim of the study was to identify risk and issues in the profession of medical doctors. In the first part the author has studied threats levels connected with various dangerous (traumatic, accidental), harmful (physical, chemical, biological and psychophysical), job requirement and career development opportunities in Poland. In the second part on the basis of the available research results were indicated factors determining the health condition of doctors and were determined by work conditions and work schedules, stress factors and addiction. In the third part was presented actual best practice and possibly answers to this problem which are also kind for the medical doctors.

The study aims at examining the effect of work satisfaction on employee engagement. The study was conducted using the quantitative method. The population consists of the employees of telecommunication network providers in the industry. The numbers of employees eligible to be included in the population were 14,000 people (2015), which came from various managerial levels. Upon restricting the population three managerial levels, including senior leaders, line managers, and supervisors, the number went down to 8,064 people. For the study, samples of 100 respondents were chosen using multistage-random sampling. The data were processed using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method. The results of the study showed that in telecommunication network providers, work satisfaction could increase employee engagement. Work condition was the dominant driver in increasing employee engagement, followed by work relationship and promotion. Work conditions include work security, work comfort, stress levels, working hours, and management policies. These aspects could provide the highest support in shaping employee engagement. The results of this study provide an implication for telecommunication network providers in Indonesia, which is that employee engagement was mainly driven by employee satisfaction with their work condition, work relationship, and promotion.
Badanie ma na celu analizę wpływu satysfakcji z pracy na zaangażowanie pracowników. Badanie przeprowadzono metodą ilościową. Próbka składa się z pracowników dostawców sieci telekomunikacyjnych. Liczba pracowników kwalifikujących się do włączenia do populacji wynosiła 14 000 osób (2015 r.), które pochodziły z różnych poziomów kierowniczych. Po ograniczeniu populacji do trzech poziomów kierowniczych, w tym wyższych rangą liderów, menedżerów liniowych i nadzorców, liczba ta spadła do 8 064 osób. Do badania wybrano próbki 100 respondentów przy użyciu wielostopniowego losowego pobierania próbek. Dane zostały przetworzone przy użyciu metody Modelowania Równań Strukturalnych (SEM). Wyniki badania wykazały, że w przypadku dostawców telekomunikacyjnych zadowolenie z pracy może zwiększyć zaangażowanie pracowników. Stan pracy był dominującym czynnikiem zwiększającym zaangażowanie pracowników, a następnie stosunki pracy i awans. Warunki pracy obejmują bezpieczeństwo pracy, komfort pracy, poziom stresu, godziny pracy i zasady zarządzania. Te aspekty mogą zapewnić najwyższe wsparcie w kształtowaniu zaangażowania pracowników. Wyniki tego badania dostarczają implikacji dla dostawców sieci telekomunikacyjnych w Indonezji, a mianowicie, że zaangażowanie pracowników było głównie spowodowane satysfakcją pracowników z ich warunków pracy, stosunków pracy i promocji.

Background The purpose of the study was to determine to what degree social support is differentiated by family situation, with consideration of single motherhood as a difficult circumstance, and to establish if social support is significant for satisfaction with work in the studied group of mothers. Material and Methods The sample consisted of 421 mothers: 206 (49%) of them were in a formal or casual relationship, and the remaining 215 (51%) were single mothers. The sample was studied by means of the Berlin Social Support Scales (BSSS), and the Scale of Satisfaction with Work. Results The results showed that single mothers perceived and obtained significantly less social support than mothers in relationships, and they offered to their relatives much more protective support (p = 0.006). Satisfaction with work among mothers – regardless of the family status – grows if the mother receives more social support. The information support received by mothers in relationships is not significantly related to satisfaction with work; seeking that type of support by single mothers does not have a meaningful relationship with satisfaction with work, either. Moreover, regardless of the mothers’ family status, satisfaction with work is significantly differentiated by each type of social support, except for protective support. Conclusions Social support is differentiated by the mothers’ situation in the family and at work, and it has a different impact on single mothers from the impact on mothers in relationships. W artykule wykorzystano wyniki badań autorskich Wojciecha Kosińskiego prezentowanych w pracy licencjackiej pt.: Satysfakcja z pracy, a poziom zaangażowania w realizacji zadań przez pracowników objętych Kartą Nauczyciela. W konkluzji, najwyższy poziom odnotowano w odniesieniu do zaangażowania afektywnego, które wskazuje na emocjonalne przywiązanie badanych nauczycieli do pracy w szkole.
This study is devoted to the subject of employees’ satisfaction and their engagement, with special emphasis put to the analysis of factors conditioning their attitude in the labor process. The aim of the research was the assessment of the level of teachers’ satisfaction and their engagement in the teaching work. In this article were used the results of the study by Wojciech Kosiński presented in his undergraduate thesis entitled Work satisfaction versus the level of engagement in the tasks execution by the employees subjected to the Teacher’s Charter. In the conclusion the highest level was noted with regard to effective engagement which indicates the emotional attachment of the tested teachers to their work at school.

Celem prezentowanych badań była próba znalezienia związków pomiędzy wybranymi obszarami uczestniczenia jednostki w organizacji, tj. zaangażowanie organizacyjne czy motywacja do pracy, a stosunkiem do dóbr materialnych. Weryfikacji poddano także istnienie ewentualnych zmiennych pośredniczących w tych związkach, m.in. płci, stanowiska czy satysfakcji z pracy. Badaniem objęto łącznie 200 pracowników organizacji w wieku od 25 do 56 lat, z uwzględnieniem płci oraz zajmowanego stanowiska. W celu pomiaru posłużono się czterema narzędziami badawczymi: Skalą do Badania Stosunku do Dóbr Materialnych, Skalą Przywiązania do Organizacji, Kwestionariuszem Motywacji do Pracy oraz Kwestionariuszem Satysfakcji z Pracy. Uzyskane wyniki wskazują na istotny pozytywny związek pomiędzy materializmem pracowników a motywacją władzy i zaangażowaniem trwania oraz negatywny związek z przywiązaniem normatywnym, ale także na istotną rolę pośredniczącą w badanych związkach takich zmiennych, jak satysfakcja z pracy czy rodzaj zajmowanego stanowiska.
The aim of this paper is finding connections between chosen areas of an individual’s organizational involvement—i.e. organizational commitment and work motivation—and that individual’s attitude towards material goods. Also explored are possible variables mediating the relationships described above, including sex, job satisfaction, and position held. A total of 200 organization employees were examined. Their ages ranged from twenty–five to fifty–six, taking into account the sex and position held by participants. Four research tools were used to measure the variables in question: a scale for measuring attitudes towards material possession, an organizational commitment scale, a work motivation questionnaire, and a job satisfaction questionnaire. The results indicate that materialism in the case of employees correlates positively with power motivation and continuance commitment, but negatively with normative commitment. However, there are also variables significantly mediating the connections mentioned above—job satisfaction and position held.

W artykule omówiono zagadnienie satysfakcji zawodowej, jako jednej ze sfer jakości życia. Problem badawczy obejmował związek pomiędzy wartościami ostatecznymi, instrumentalnymi oraz związanymi ze spełnieniem naukowym a satysfakcją z pracy pracowników naukowych. Z przeprowadzonych badań wynikło, że zadowolenie zawodowe nie jest niezależne od wartości realizowanych w pracy. Im więcej realizowanych wartości ostatecznych i im silniej realizowane, tym wyższa satysfakcja zawodowa i na odwrót. Dla satysfakcji zawodowej pracowników naukowych wartości ostateczne miały większe znaczenie niż wartości instrumentalne oraz wartości związane ze spełnieniem naukowym. Analiza wyników pozwoliła nakreślić płaszczyzny dalszych badań, wskazując potrzebę lepszego poznania uwarunkowań satysfakcji z pracy, uwzględniając specyfikę danej grupy zawodowej.
In the paper the issues of work satisfaction as part of life satisfaction are discussed. The research problem included the link between terminal values, instrumental values or values connected with scientific fulfilment and work satisfaction of academics. The results of the conducted research show that work satisfaction is dependent on observing terminal values at work. The more values a person feels observed, the more satisfied with work he or she is and vice versa. Terminal values have more influence on work satisfaction than instrumental ones or values connected with scientific fulfilment. The analysis of the results helped to define plans for future research, showing the need to find the causes of work satisfaction, including unique conditions of the examined profession.

Tasks undertaken by nascent entrepreneurs are oftentimes distant from their main scope of interest and skills. The question emerges whether the perception of those tasks infl uences the motivational processes of entrepreneurs and their work satisfaction. In this empirical study of nascent Polish entrepreneurs, we were able to observe that indeed in some cases the perception of the performed tasks moderates the relation between entrepreneurs’ motivation and work satisfaction. For example, among those entrepreneurs who assessed the educational value of performed tasks highly, the relation between intrinsic motivation and work satisfaction was positive. Those fi ndings are of signifi cant importance when it comes to supporting entrepreneurship activity. It is advised to be aware of factors infl uencing entrepreneurs’ motivation to work in order to sustain theirproductivity and engagement.
Zadania podejmowane przez początkujących przedsiębiorców są często dalekie od ich głównego zakresu zainteresowań i umiejętności. Pojawia się więc pytanie, czy postrzeganie tych zadań wpływa na procesy motywacyjne przedsiębiorców i ich satysfakcja z pracy. W badaniu początkujących polskich przedsiębiorców, byliśmy w stanie zaobserwować, że w niektórych przypadkach postrzeganie wykonywanych zadań moderuje relację między motywacją przedsiębiorców a satysfakcją z ich pracy. Wśród tych przedsiębiorców, którzy wysoko ocenili edukacyjną wartość wykonywanych przez siebie zadań, relacja między motywacją wewnętrzną a zadowoleniem z pracy była pozytywna. Wyniki te mają istotne znaczenie, jeśli chodzi o wspieranie działalności przedsiębiorczej. Świadomość czynników wpływających na motywację przedsiębiorców do pracy może przyczynić się do zwiększonej produktywności i zaangażowania w aktywności przedsiębiorczej.

Artykuł ma charakter badawczy, a jego celem jest uzyskanie odpowiedzi na pytanie o postrzeganą jakość życia w środowisku pracy oraz jej uwarunkowania, na podstawie wyników badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych w 2017 roku na reprezentatywnej próbie 308 aktywnych zawodowo mieszkańców województwa zachodniopomorskiego. Satysfakcja z pracy stanowiąca podstawę oceny jakości życia w tym obszarze jest uzależniona od wielu, najczęściej wzajemnie powiązanych ze sobą czynników, w tym postaw i oczekiwań jednostki wobec pracy oraz jej zadowolenia z poszczególnych materialnych i niematerialnych aspektów pracy. Za najważniejsze dla satysfakcji z pracy respondenci uznali: stałość i pewność zatrudnienia, dobre relacje ze współpracownikami, wysokość wynagrodzenia i sprawiedliwość przełożonego. Dwa pierwsze wymienione czynniki oraz wyposażenie miejsca pracy w potrzebny sprzęt i materiały, to te aspekty środowiska pracy, z których badani są najbardziej zadowoleni. Generalnie większość ankietowanych jest raczej zadowolona lub zadowolona z pracy, jednak przeciętny poziom satysfakcji z tego obszaru jakości życia jest niższy niż przeciętny poziom satysfakcji z życia ogółem.
Статья имеет исследовательский характер, а ее цель – получить ответ на вопрос о воспринимаемом качестве жизни в трудовой среде и его обусловлен- ностях, на основе результатов опросов, проведенных в 2017 г. на представи- тельной выборке 308 профессионально активных жителей Западнопоморского воеводства. Удовлетворение от труда, представляющее собой основу оценки качества жизни в этой области, зависит от многих, чаще всего взаимосвязанных факторов, в том числе отношения и ожиданий индивида от труда, а также его удовлетворения отдельными материальными и нематериальными аспектами труда. Самыми важными для удовлетворения от труда респонденты сочли по- стоянство и уверенность в трудоустройстве, хорошие отношения с сотрудника- ми, размер зарплаты и справедливость начальника. Два первых из перечислен- ных факторов, а также оснащение рабочего места необходимыми аппаратурой и материалами – те аспекты трудовой среды, которыми опрошенные довольны более всего. В общем, большинство опрошенных скорее всего довольны или довольны трудом, хотя средний уровень удовлетворения этой сферой качества жизни ниже, чем средний удовень удовлетворенностью жизнью в целом.
The aim of this research article is to obtain an answer to the question about the perceived quality of life in the working environment and its determinants, based on the results of surveys conducted in 2017 on a representative sample of 308 professionally active residents of West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The human expectations to work and the manner of its assessment depend on many the most frequently interrelated factors. The most important for the work satisfaction the respondents considered job stability and security, good relationships with co-workers, amount of remuneration and superior’s fairness. The first two mentioned factors and furnishing of the workplace with the equipment and materials needed are those aspects of the work environment with which the respondents are most satisfied. In general, most respondents are rather satisfied or satisfied with their work, but the average level of satisfaction with this area of the quality of life is lower than the average level of satisfaction with life in general.

Gradually dropping number of working age people, dropping rate of unemployment and continuously growing number of job vacancies, which remain open for a longer time, lead to a situation in which more and more often in the context of Poland people say the market belongs to the employee. What doesn’t alleviate the situation is the arrival of a new generation, the so-called millennials, on the market. Millennials differ from earlier generations both in terms of their characteristics and expectations with regard to their workplace. The fact that over a half of scientists below the age of 35 employed in national scientific institutions consider changing their work, makes it necessary to focus more on employees’ needs. The goal of this article is highlighting the aspects of work which make it possible to young scientists to achieve satisfaction from professional sphere of life and thus could prevent their outflow from the sector of science. In 2017 OPI PIB carried out a survey on a representative sample of scientific employees, which included 264 respondents born after 1981. The collected empirical materials allowed the author to analyze the expectations of young people from the sector of science with regard to their workplace. The assessments of scientists who consider changing their employer with the assessments of people who don’t have such plans have been compared. The conducted survey leads to the conclusion that young people should above all be given the opportunity to develop and work towards achieving their own scientific aspirations. It is also necessary to guarantee the feeling of stability of employment and satisfactory remuneration. What also turns out to be significant is the organization of space, as well as providing flexible work conditions and recognition from the superiors. Satisfying at least some of the highlighted proposals won’t be possible without introducing systemic changes. Failure to intervene in such a way will lead to a situation in which the national sector of science will in the nearest years be gradually losing valuable employees, which will be migrating to the company sector and foreign scientific institutions.
Obniżająca się sukcesywnie liczba osób w wieku produkcyjnym, malejąca stopa bezrobocia oraz rosnąca liczba miejsc pracy, które pozostają niezapełnione przez dłuższy czas, sprawia, że coraz częściej w kontekście Polski mówi się o nastaniu rynku pracownika. Sytuacji nie ułatwia wejście na rynek nowego pokolenia, tak zwanych milenialsów, którzy różnią się od wcześniejszych generacji zarówno pod względem charakteryzujących ich cech, jak i oczekiwań wobec miejsca pracy. Fakt, że ponad połowa naukowców w wieku do 35. roku życia, zatrudnionych w krajowych instytucjach naukowych, rozważa zmianę pracy, wymusza silniejszą orientację na potrzeby pracowników. Celem artykułu jest wskazanie aspektów pracy, które są ważne dla osiągnięcia przez młodych uczonych satysfakcji z zawodowej sfery życia i tym samym mogą zapobiec ich odpływowi z sektora nauki. W 2017 roku OPI PIB zrealizowało sondaż na reprezentatywnej próbie pracowników naukowych, w której znalazło się 264 respondentów urodzonych po 1981 roku. Zgromadzony materiał empiryczny pozwolił autorce przeanalizować, jakie są oczekiwania młodych z sektora nauki wobec miejsca zatrudnienia. Porównane zostały oceny naukowców, którzy rozważają zmianę pracodawcy z ocenami osób, które nie deklarują takich planów. Z przeprowadzonego badania wynika, że młodym osobom przede wszystkim należy zagwarantować możliwość rozwoju i realizacji własnych aspiracji naukowych, a także zapewnić poczucie stabilności zatrudnienia i satysfakcjonujące wynagrodzenie. Nie bez znaczenia okazuje się również organizacja przestrzeni i zapewnienie elastycznych warunków pracy oraz okazywanie uznania przez przełożonego. Sprostanie przynajmniej niektórym ze wskazanych postulatów nie będzie możliwe bez wprowadzenia zmian systemowych. Zaniechanie takiej interwencji spowoduje, że krajowy sektor nauki w najbliższych latach będzie stopniowo tracił wartościowych pracowników na rzecz sektora przedsiębiorstw oraz zagranicznych instytucji naukowych.

The boundary between work and family life is now almost invisible, making the search for a balance between both spheres a dilemma and challenge. These concerns have led to a growing increase in studies on work-family and family-work conflict, their predictors, and their effects. This study aims to: 1) observe the predictive effect of work-family conflict (WFC) and family-work conflict (FWC) on work-family guilt (WFG) and family-work guilt (FWG), respectively; and 2) to observe the effect of WFC, FWC, WFG and FWG on satisfaction with life and job satisfaction. In a sample of 213 participants aged between 22 and 64 years (M = 41.77; SD = 6.63), the results show that, in contrast with expectations, WFG and FWG did not prove to be predictors; only WFC and FWC had a negative effect on both guilt and satisfaction with life and job satisfaction. The family work interface is a topic that is extremely important, not only for organizations but also for society. Therefore, the study of its implications on variables is considered essential for the promotion of positive functioning of individuals.

The research studies of the future of maritime transport indicate that one of the biggest development barriers in this industry is to the lack of qualified marine personnel. The article presents three dimensions of the assessment of the profession of seafarer, namely: the attractiveness of the profession, the satisfaction with the work done and the prestige. The article presents the author’s attempt to conceptualize the model of a sense of professional satisfaction. Based on the analysis of HR literature, the author has made attempts to define (disaggregation and structuring) objective factors influencing the model of sense of professional satisfaction. There are distinguished 22 factors related to the content and context of work. This is a presentation of a method of calculating the level of a declared contractual employee satisfaction. In the introduction, there is a brief synopsis of construction of the model of a sense of employee satisfaction. For this purpose, there is described the differences between the concepts of satisfaction and the contentment, satisfaction measurement tools and list factors influencing job satisfaction.

The study was aimed at investigation 1) effect of job and family demands on job and marital satisfaction, 2) mediating role of work-family and family-work conflicts and differences between women and men in regards to work the conflicts and job and marital satisfaction. Participants were 281 workers represented different type of occupation. The result support researching hypothesis partly. High work and family demands correlated with low job and marital satisfaction. Moreover work-family conflict mediated effect of job demands on job satisfaction. Family-work conflict did not play role of mediator. Men were characterized by lower family-work conflict and lower marital satisfaction than women. There were not sex differences related to work-family conflict and job satisfaction.

Prezentowany artykuł stanowi efekt poszukiwań możliwych uwarunkowań funkcjonowania szkoły jako efektywnej organizacji. Autorki, reprezentujące trzy różne obszary badawcze, na podstawie analizy wybranych badań zostały zainspirowane do szerszych poszukiwań mieszczących się w nurcie badań nad szkołą jako pozytywną organizacją. W artykule podjęto problem uwarunkowań utrzymywania się satysfakcji z pracy oraz zaangażowania w organizację. W celu zbadania związków między dobrostanem oraz zaangażowaniem w pracę i organizację a rozwojem zawodowym nauczycieli przedstawiono rezultaty badań prowadzonych w grupie nauczycieli (N = 129). Do badań wykorzystano Kwestionariusz UWES (Ultrecht Work Engagement Scale, Schaufelie i Bakker), Kwestionariusz Dobrostanu w Sytuacji Pracy (KDSP, Czerw) oraz Skalę Przywiązania do Organizacji (Affective Continuance and Normative Commitment Scales, Mayer i Allen). Rezultaty badań wykazały, że istniejący pozytywny związek pomiędzy dobrostanem w pracy a zaangażowaniem w pracę i organizację oraz pozytywny związek między zaangażowaniem w pracę a zaangażowaniem w organizację jest niezależny od długości pracy w szkole. Te wyniki skłoniły autorki do przedstawienia szerszej bazy teoretycznej dla stawianych problemów w nurcie efektywnej organizacji.
In the article the authors discuss well-being and commitment as categories, which may be used in study on the personal growth and job satisfaction of teachers. Paper theoretically is based on organizational positive psychology and raises a subject of well-being and professional commitment category (at organization and work) as a source of life satisfaction. In order to examine relationships between the well-being and commitment to the work and organization the results of the study was presented. The study was conducted among teachers (N = 129). In study were used: UWES Questionnaire for examinations (Ultrecht Work Engagement Scale, Schaufelie and Bakker), Questionnaire of the Welfare in the work situation and Affective Continuance and Normative Commitment Scales. Analysed results showed a positive connection between the well-being at work and engagement at work and the organization and it is not linked with the duration of the professional career. Moreover research showed positive connection between the commitment to work and the commitment to the organization and it is not linked with the length of the work at the given institution. Based on analysed results the new study approach was proposed.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to measure the level of job satisfaction and the work factors associated with it among practicing dentists in Suez Canal governorates hospitals. Materials and Methods: Four hundred forty nine dentists were contacted, and 277 agreed to participate (response rate 61.7%). They were surveyed through a self-administered questionnaire based on items from the Dentist Satisfaction Survey (DSS) questionnaire, which included 29 questions covering items related to the overall satisfaction level and work environment factors; answers were reported on 5 point Likert scale. Results: The mean score of overall job satisfaction among studied dentists was 3.24 out of 5. As regards work environment factors, the most satisfying aspect was patient relations (3.71) and the least was personal time (2.71). Multiple regression analysis model verifi ed that patient relations, value of income, personal time, staff, and training opportunities accounted for 36% of variation in overall job satisfaction score. The majority of the variance was explained by patient relations. Conclusions: This study suggests that patient relations, perception of income, personal time, staff, and specialty training are important work environment factors for job satisfaction among the dentists. These fi ndings might help policy makers to design plans to increase the level of job satisfaction among dentists at their workplaces.

Material and methods The study population consisted of 90 cardiac patients who have recently been treated with coronary angioplasty or heart surgery. They were evaluated during their CR and 12 months after the discharge using validated self-report questionnaires measuring job satisfaction, work stress-related factors, emotional distress and illness perception. Information on socio-demographic, medical and occupational factors has also been collected. Results After adjusting for demographic, occupational and medical variables, baseline job satisfaction (p < 0.001), depression (p < 0.01) and ambition (p < 0.05) turned out to be independent, significant predictors of job satisfaction following return to work (RTW). Patients who had a partial RTW were more satisfied with their job than those who had a full RTW, controlling for baseline job satisfaction. Conclusions These findings recommend an early assessment of patients’ psychosocial work environment and emotional distress, with particular emphasis on job satisfaction and depressive symptoms, in order to promote satisfying and healthy RTW after cardiac interventions.

The study attempts to analyse the relationship of selected sociodemographic variables, such as age, gender, education, having a partner, having children, form of employment, work experience, number of hours devoted to work per week, etc. with job satisfaction in emotional terms. The study involved 375 people, professionally active, aged 19–64. Emotional job satisfaction was measured with Jaros’ Energy and Tension at Work Scale (2009). The obtained data indicated that only in a few cases sociodemographic variables were associated with the level of emotional job satisfaction, while other variables were significant from the energy level at work perspective (having a partner, working partner, having children and working outside the office), other were important from the work tension point of view (number of hours of work and overtime work). There were no real differences depending on gender. Age, in turn, was positively related to the level of energy at work and the education level differentiated the perceived tension at work. Study results confirmed the need to include the so-called Transactional Approach in the further research on job satisfaction (Zaleska, 2003) and estimating a larger pool of variables would be advisable. At the same time, they validate the inclusion of selected sociodemographic variables in the analyses, which can perform as intermediary variables in the studied relationships.

Purpose – The article aims to attempt to define the work and organization engagement of the employees of one of the exclusive hotel spa in Poland. The present paper proposes that organizational roles taken by employees differentiate symptoms of their engagement. The research aims to test the hypothesis and to show the differences at the level of concepts and behaviors. Design/methodology/approach – The following study is an attempt to define the work and organizational engagement of employees of one of the exclusive SPA (sanus per aquam) hotels in Poland. The study was conducted using qualitative methods in the form of individual interviews and a group interview. The study described is part of a bigger project implemented in a Hotel. One department within the hotel, the kitchen of the main restaurant, was chosen for analysis. As such, opinions of two managers of various ranks (the Chef and the Deputy Manager of the Hotel) and seven persons from the aforementioned department are presented in this paper. Findings – Data analysis allowed us to conclude that organizational roles performed by employees may, in an influential way, shape the level and mental representation of the work and organizational engagement. Our results show that the higher position an employee has in the organizational hierarchy, the better is his/her understanding and the bigger is level of engagement both in work and in the organisation. What’s more, higher organizational role is conducive to mixing these two perspectives, and the lower role makes them clearly separated.

This paper explores a number of psychological factors related to work engagement in teachers. Using a sample of 449 lower and upper secondary school teachers, it focuses on the Big Five personality traits, respondents’ age, and several factors based on the teachers’ subjective evaluation of their work - including the meaningfulness of their work, job satisfaction, and workload. The results indicate that teachers’ work engagement is connected primarily with their job satisfaction and perception of the meaningfulness of their work (which functioned as predictors), as well as respondents’ Big Five personality traits (of which extraversion and conscientiousness were predictors). Perceived workload emerged as a negative predictor.

Two studies were performed to test the relationship between readiness for self-improvement (consisting of two components: readiness to improve oneself and readiness to take care of one’s health) and selected measures of well-being. The first study investigated whether readiness for self-improvement is related to the selected measures of overall subjective well-being (or life satisfaction). The second one investigated in what way readiness for self-improvement is related to subjective well-being at workplace (or work engagement). The results obtained in both cases showed that readiness for self-improvement is indeed related to and does account for well-being. In the first study, readiness for self-improvement (i.e. readiness to improve oneself) accounted for overall life satisfaction within important human life domains and satisfaction with the present and future life. In the second study, work engagement, was significantly linked to readiness to improve oneself but was not with readiness to take care of one’s health.

The objective of this research was to study and identify ergonomic deficiencies in computer workstation design in typical offices. Physical measurements and a questionnaire were used to study 40 workstations. Major ergonomic deficiencies were found in physical design and layout of the workstations, employee postures, work practices, and training. The consequences in terms of user health and other problems were significant. Forty-five percent of the employees used nonadjustable chairs, 48% of computers faced windows, 90% of the employees used computers more than 4 hrs/day, 45% of the employees adopted bent and unsupported back postures, and 20% used office tables for computers. Major problems reported were eyestrain (58%), shoulder pain (45%), back pain (43%), arm pain (35%), wrist pain (30%), and neck pain (30%). These results indicated serious ergonomic deficiencies in office computer workstation design, layout, and usage. Strategies to reduce or eliminate ergonomic deficiencies in computer workstation design were suggested.

W artykule omówiono kluczowe kwestie dotyczące satysfakcji zawodowej pracowników nauki. Odniesiono się do wydajności pracy zawodowej akademików oraz ich obciążeń stresem, warunkami pracy. Autorzy odnoszą się w nim również do różnic w postrzeganiu tego zjawiska między kobietami i mężczyznami. Z badań wynika, iż czynnikiem, który pozytywnie wpływał na satysfakcję kadry akademickiej w Polsce, jest poczucie, że ich praca cieszy się uznaniem, natomiast negatywny wpływ miało – podobnie jak w przypadku badań międzynarodowych – nadmierne obciążenie obowiązkami dydaktycznymi oraz administracyjnymi. Niektóre z badań wykazały, że poziom zadowolenia polskich pracowników naukowych wzrasta wraz ze stażem pracy.
The article discusses the key issues related to the science work satisfaction. It refers to the professional work of the researchers and their stressors, working conditions. Authors also refer to a differences in the perception of this phenomenon between men and women. Research shows that a factor that positively influences the satisfaction of academic staff in Poland is the sense that their work is appreciated, while the negative impact was due to the excessive burden on teaching and administrative duties. Some studies have shown that the level of satisfaction of Polish academics increases with the increase in work experience.

Introduction. Researchers indicate an important relationship between the level of job satisfaction and the state of health of the employees. Some elements of work related with its character, organization, and interpersonal relationships may evoke strong stress, manifested by, among others, an increased musculoskeletal tension which, in turn, may lead to permanent dysfunction of this system. Objective. The objective of the study was analysis of the relationship between the level of job satisfaction and occurrence of musculoskeletal disorders among employees of the State Forests. Materials and method. The research material was collected using two instruments: the modified Nordic Questionnaire for assessment of musculoskeletal disorders, and a questionnaire concerning job satisfaction. The study was conducted in a group of 396 employees of the State Forests from 8 regions of Poland. Results. The results of analysis confirmed a significant relationship between job satisfaction and the occurrence of musculoskeletal disorders. The lower the level of job satisfaction, the more frequent the experiencing of musculoskeletal disorders. Conclusion. Low level of job satisfaction is a risk factor for the occurrence of musculoskeletal disorders. Shaping of work conditions, which are the source of job satisfaction, should be considered as one of the main elements of prevention of musculoskeletal complaints.

Purpose: The main objective of the research was to identify the structure and level of psychosocial risk experienced by transport workers and the relation between occupational stress and the decision to leave the job. Methodology: The research on psychosocial risks at work and their impact on job-related decisions was conducted with the Psychosocial Risk Scale (SRP), a scientifically verified diagnostic tool characterized by high reliability and accuracy of coefficients. The scale consists of four parts, A, B, C, and D. Part A concerns demographic data (such as age, gender, seniority, position, etc.). Part B contains questions related to health and professional functioning. Part C consists of 50 statements related to characteristics of work that pose potential psychosocial risks. Annex D-SRP for the transport sector contains 12 questions (α-Cronbach factor = 0.80). Psychometric properties of parts B and C of the Psychosocial Risk Scale were determined on the basis of the survey results. Results: The psychosocial risk categories considered were workload, job content, work schedule, control, environment and equipment, organizational culture and function, interpersonal relationships, career development, and work-life interface. The mediating effect of job satisfaction was also considered to provide a holistic perception of the analyzed problem. Job satisfaction was analyzed in job content, work conditions and organization, financial conditions, career development, and interpersonal relations with superiors and co-workers. Based on research results, authors identified and characterized the impact of psychosocial risk on transport workers' job-related decisions. Theoretical contribution: The research links social sciences, psychology, and management studies exploring the links between occupational stress and HR management implications, filling in a research gap between occupational stress and logistics management and creating new gaps and research questions as conclusions from research open following research fields and opportunities in the context of research on sustainable development of enterprises. It adds a new perspective to transport management, proving that risk resulting from job characteristics and organization can compromise the availability of workers and the quality of processes performed. Practical implications: The research results can be used by HR managers and workload planners to minimize the occupational stress experienced and improve the well-being and performance of transport workers.

The adult under the pressure of demands to function in two life domains: work and family There is a growing number of men and women engaged in work and family roles. This article describes linkages between the work-family interface and individual, family and work outcomes: life satisfaction, marital satisfaction, individual psychologicall well-being, job stress. Recent studies on the work-family interface have focused on the scarcity perspective, which posits that engaging in multiple roles results in interrole conflict when participation in one role is made more difficult by virtue of participation in the other role. Other studies support the facilitation or enhancement hypothesis which suggests, that participation in one role is made better or easier by virtue of participation in the other role. The aim of this research is to present a research project studying the work-family questionnaire (Grzywacz, Bass, 2003) assessing work-family conflict, work-family facilitation, family-work conflict, family-work facilitation:to analyze both the conflict and facilitation dimensions and both directions of influence: work to family and family to work in dual-earner couples,to examine the relation of conflict and facilitation to life satisfaction, marital satisfaction and other indicators of mental health.The subjects in this research are 80 married couples living in dual-earner families in Poland, who have at least one child under 12.Measures used in this study:Work-Family Fit Questionnaire (Grzywacz, Bass, 2003) in Polish version adopted by Lachowska (2005),Job characteristics assessed through a questionnaire developed by Dudek at al. (1999),General Health Questionnaire (Goldberg, 1978),Marital Satisfaction Scale (Olson, Fowers, 1993),Satisfaction with Life Scale (Diener at al., 1993).

Job satisfaction has a big impact on how an employee performs his job. Both elements have an impact on job safety and employee perception of it. A satisfied employee devotes himself to work, performs orders better, cares for others and for himself. He feels safe in the enterprise. The aim of the paper was to assess employees' job satisfaction and their work performance with use of simply survey. In order to achieve this aim, a survey was conducted among employees of a chosen metallurgical enterprise who were asked to assess level of their job satisfaction. The employees defined their job satisfaction by referring to 20 statements describing this satisfaction and evaluating three factors that were used to compute the satisfaction index. The survey allowed for indication the general level of employee satisfaction.

Objectives Existing research has documented that shiftwork consequences may depend on the shift system parameters. Fast rotating systems (1–3 shifts of the same kind in a row) and day work have been found to be less disruptive biologically and socially than slower rotating systems and afternoon and night work. The aim of this study was to compare day workers and shift workers of different systems in terms of rotation speed and shifts worked with regard to work–family and family–work positive and negative spillover, marital communication style, job satisfaction and health. Material and Methods Employees (N = 168) of the maintenance workshops of transportation service working different shift systems (day shift, weekly rotating 2 and 3‑shift system, and fast rotating 3-shift system) participated in the study. They completed the Work– Family Spillover Questionnaire, Marital Communication Questionnaire, Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire and the Physical Health Questionnaire (a part of the Standard Shiftwork Index). Results The workers of quicker rotating 3-shift systems reported significantly higher scores of family-to-work facilitation (F(3, 165) = 4.175, p = 0.007) and a higher level of constructive style of marital communication (Engagement F(3, 165) = 2.761, p = 0.044) than the workers of slower rotating 2-shift systems. There were no differences between the groups of workers with regard to health and job satisfaction. Conclusions A higher level of work–family facilitation and a more constructive style of marital communication were found among the workers of faster rotating 3-shift system when compared to the workers of a slower rotating 2-shift system (afternoon, night). This may indicate that the fast rotating shift system in contrary to the slower rotating one is more friendly for the work and family domains and for the relationship between them. This article is an attempt to determine the modern meaning of career success. The perception of career success has undergone changes in recent years, with subjective indicators such as job satisfaction and achievement of one's own professional goals growing in importance. The present article reviews the relevant literature and presents the results of the author's own study on the meaning of career success conducted among students of economics. The results indicate that career success is defined subjectively in the modern world, and is no longer confined to the objective indicators commonly applied in the literature. Thus organizations may find traditional incentive tools to be increasingly ineffective.

The study examined the relationships between work experience and (a) safety perceptions, (b) job satisfaction, (c) compliance with safety management policies and (d) accident frequency. Participants were Ghanaian industrial workers (N = 320). They were divided into 2 cohorts: experienced and inexperienced workers. Workplace safety perceptions were assessed with Hayes et al.’s 50-item work safety scale. MANOVA was used to test for differences of statistical significance. Posterior comparison with t test consistently revealed significant differences between experienced cohorts and their inexperienced counterparts. Experienced workers indicated the best perceptions on safety, expressed the highest level of job satisfaction, were the most compliant with safety procedures and recorded the lowest accident frequency. From a practical perspective, analysing differences in work experience in relation to safety perceptions could be useful for organizations as the workersʼ experience could indicate a need for special safety programmes for particular groups.

Background. The study aimed to examine the level of satisfaction of nursing staff with their professional work and determining the factors influencing this satisfaction. Material and methods. The research was conducted in 2020 in Podkarpackie Voivodeship, Poland, and comprised 435 nurses. The data were collected using the authors’ questionnaire, the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire, and the Job Satisfaction Scale. Results. More than half of respondents are satisfied with their work and working conditions. Regarding problematic situations at work, 59.3% received sufficient help from other staff members. The main reason for dissatisfaction among nurses was low salary and working under pressure (>50%). Conclusions. According to the results, the nursing staff are devoted to their work and, in most cases, find it satisfying. Working with other people and providing help in difficult situations is of high value to all of them. It influences their job satisfaction, often undermined by difficult working conditions, low pay, and immense pressure.
Wprowadzenie. Celem pracy było zbadanie poziomu satysfakcji personelu pielęgniarskiego z pracy zawodowej oraz określenie czynników wpływających na tę satysfakcję. Materiał i metody. Badania przeprowadzono w 2020 roku w województwie podkarpackimi objęto nimi 435 pielęgniarek. Dane zebrano za pomocą autorskiego kwestionariusza, Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire oraz Job Satisfaction Scale. Wyniki. Ponad połowa respondentów jest zadowolona ze swojej pracy i warunków pracy. Jeśli chodzi o problematyczne sytuacje w pracy, 59,3% otrzymało wystarczającą pomoc od innych pracowników. Głównym powodem niezadowolenia pielęgniarek były niskie zarobki i praca pod presją (>50%). Wnioski. Z uzyskanych wyników wynika, że personel pielęgniarski jest zaangażowany w swoją pracę i w większości przypadków jest z niej zadowolony. Praca z innymi ludźmi i niesienie pomocy w trudnych sytuacjach jest dla nich wszystkich bardzo cenne. Wpływa to na ich satysfakcję z pracy, często nadszarpniętą trudnymi warunkami pracy, niskim wynagrodzeniem i ogromną presją.

Objectives The aim of the present study was to explore whether remote and on-site work stress during the COVID-19 pandemic was experienced with different severity. The second goal was to investigate stress conditions at both working modes. Material and Methods The study involved 946 individuals working in the education system and BSS sector in different Polish organizations. The following tools were used: the Brief Scale of Vocational Stress by Dudek and Hauk, the Polish version of the scales to measure work–family conflicts by Grzywacz, Frone, Brewer and Kovner, Meyer and Allen’s Affective, Continuance, and Normative Commitment Scales in the Polish adaptation by Bańka, Wołowska and Bazińska, the Satisfaction with Job Scale by Zalewska. Results The analysis of intergroup differences revealed that remote work stress severity was significantly lower than on-site work stress severity. The regression analyses proved that work–family conflict and job satisfaction were significant predictors of remote and on-site work stress. Continuance commitment positively predicted on-site work stress. Both models turned out to be statistically significant. The variables included in the models explained 39% and 35% of the variability of the remote work and on-site work stress, respectively. Conclusions Remote work is associated with lower stress severity than on-site work. For both types of work, the higher the level of work–family conflict, the higher the level of stress severity, but the higher the job satisfaction, the lower the stress severity. Continuance commitment is positively related to on-site stress, which means that people who work for an organization and see no alternative feel more stressed. Such an effect was observed only in the case of on-site work. The study findings are discussed in light of previous research, and implications for organizational practice are considered. Niniejszy artykuł porównuje relację praca/rodzina (wzbogacanie i konflikt), zadowolenie z pracy i z życia, a także subiektywne zdrowie wśród pielęgniarek pracujących tylko w porze dziennej oraz w szybko rotującym systemie zmianowym (1–3 dni na tej samej zmianie). W badaniu wzięło udział 178 pielęgniarek, mężatek, z co najmniej jednym dzieckiem. Wykazano różnice pomiędzy badanymi grupami w zakresie zmiennych związanych z pracą. U pielęgniarek dziennych wystąpił istotnie wyższy poziom wzbogacania praca/rodzina i zadowoleniaz pracy w porównaniu z pielęgniarkami pracującymi zmianowo. Pielęgniarki zmianowe zaś charakteryzował istotnie wyższy poziom konfliktu praca/rodzina oraz rodzina/praca, niż pielęgniarki pracujące tylko w dzień. Badane grupy nie różniły się istotnie w zakresie zmiennych niezwiązanych z pracą (wzbogacanie rodzina/praca, zadowolenie z życia i zdrowie).
This paper compares work/family balance (enrichment and conflict), job and life satisfaction, and subjective health among day working nurses and shift working nurses in a fast rotating shift system (1 to 3 shifts of the same kind in a row). One hundred and seventy eight married nurses with at least one child participated in the study.There were differences between groups with regard to variables related to work. Day working nurses scored higher in work/family enrichment in comparison to shift working nurses. The results of work/family conflicts and family/work conflicts were significantly higher among shift working nurses than in nurses working only during the day. The groups did not differ with regard to variables not related to work (family/work enrichment, satisfaction with life and health).

A research was conducted among the employees referred to work in the home office in connection with the announced state of the epidemic in Poland. The research was conducted using a questionnaire method, the study was attended by 199 respondents. The research is burdened with an error in the selection of statistical sample units, which resulted from the respondents’ involvement and their truthfulness. The aim of the article is to assess the activities of employers from the private and state sectors in Poland, related to the delegation of employees to work in the home office, and to analyze the skills and possibilities of self-organization of work by employees. An important result of the survey was to demonstrate the differences in the behavior of public and private sector employers. The study shows that the private sector has adapted better to sudden changes than the state sector.

This paper focuses on the connection between workload and job satisfaction among teachers. Research and everyday observation show that the teaching profession brings many highly satisfying situations in combination with situations of increased load, whose negative consequences probably have negative effects on job satisfaction. However, in the case of teachers we can observe a relatively high level of job satisfaction despite relatively high levels of subjective load. A possible explanation may lie in the fact that teachers, at least those who voluntarily remain in their profession, probably manage to counterbalance their (either genuine or perceived) excessive workload by means of other factors when evaluating their work in its entirety. These factors include personality traits related to performance dispositions, temperament, the tendency to select suitable coping strategies, or attempts to maintain a healthy lifestyle, plus – as this research shows – various characteristics with a positive effect on stress management (neuropsychological stability, hardiness, sense of coherence, optimism, etc.).

Praca to jeden z najważniejszych czynników resocjalizacji. Rozwija i kształtuje właściwe prospołeczne postawy więźniów. Stanowi narzędzie reedukacji i działań na rzecz zapobiegania powrotności do przestępstwa. Wysoki poziom poczucia sensu pracy prowadzi do zwiększenia satysfakcji i zaangażowania więźniów. Pomaga również w odnalezieniu się na rynku pracy po zakończeniu odbywania kary pozbawienia wolności. W badaniach uczestniczyło 198 pracujących osadzonych przebywających w Areszcie Śledczym w Lublinie.  zastosowano kwestionariusz WAMI M. Steger’a, Skalę Satysfakcji z Pracy A. Zalewskiej oraz kwestionariusz autorski. Zbadano, czy istnieje związek między satysfakcją z pracy a poczuciem sensu pracy, a także jakie są deklaracje dotyczące zamiaru podjęcia pracy po odbyciu kary pozbawienia wolności. Więźniowie z wyższym osobistym poczuciem sensu pracy odczuwają większą satysfakcję z pracy, a także częściej chcą działać dla dobra społecznego, budują bardziej realistyczne plany wolnościowe, odczuwają mniejsze obawy przed odnalezieniem się na rynku pracy po zakończeniu odbywania kary. Odpłatność za pracę więźniów wpływa na poziom odczuwanej z niej satysfakcji. Wysokie poczucie sensu pracy i zadowolenia z możliwości jej wykonywania wśród pracujących więźniów są istotnym elementem warunkującym zaangażowanie osadzonych w proces resocjalizacji.
Work is one of the most important factors of rehabilitation. It instils in prisoners the spirit of prosocial behavior, and is conducive to developing attitudes generally viewed as socially desirable. It is the instrument for achieving re-education as well as preventing recidivism. The high level of sense of work leads to greater satisfaction and involvement of prisoners. It helps one to find him/herself in the labor market after being released from prison. The present research involves 198 hired convicts from Lublin Remand Centre and it has been carried out by applying M. Steger’s WAMI questionnaire, A. Zalewska’s Satisfaction With Job Scale and the authors’ survey. This research gives an answer to the question: is there a correlation between job satisfaction and the sense of purpose of work, and are the respondents planning to find a job after their sentence? Prisoners with a higher degree of personal sense of work are more likely to: feel greater satisfaction from their work, act for the benefit of the general public, make more realistic plans involving their release, and better prepared for finding themselves on the labor market after expiration of a sentence. Job satisfaction among working prisoners depends on payment. The high degree of prisoners sense of purpose of work and satisfaction with it are significant factors of the involvement in the reintegration process.

BackgroundTurnover rates among nurses are much higher than in other professions. This poses a challenge for health managers in all countries. The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting nurses’ turnover and the differences in this area between Iran and Poland.Material and MethodsIn this descriptive cross-sectional study, the population consisted of nurses working in state-owned hospitals in Poland (N = 165) and in Iran (N = 200). Data were collected using the Turnover Intention Scale, the Job Satisfaction Scale, the Work–Family Conflict Scale and the Workplace Support Scale. Use was made of the AMOS 24 and SPSS 22 software for data analysis.ResultsThe results showed that the predicted factors of nurses’ turnover intention in Poland and Iran were different. Workplace support and job satisfaction can reduce turnover intention among Polish nurses while the work–family conflict influences nurses’ turnover intention in Iran.ConclusionsProviding a flexible work plan in Iranian hospitals and enhancing teamwork and improving the spirit of cooperation in Polish hospitals could reduce nurses’ turnover intention in these 2 countries.

The aim of this article is to describe the notion of telework and show the most popular aspects of telecommuting. Detailed review of the literature points out that there is no one, widely accepted definition of telework. Thus, for the purpose of this article, telecommuting is defined as “Every sort of money-gained activity, caused by external motivation of the individual and/or induced by the organization, no matter what is the extent of time spent on teleworking. What is very important is the fact that teleworking is connected with fulfilling the obligations in a flexible way, outside the conventional workplace, with the use of available telecommunications or computer-based technology to transport it’s effects”. Further investigation of the literature shows that 3 aspects are being the most popular among telework researchers: 1) demographic and psychological characteristic of telecommuting individuals, 2) causes of teleworking, 3) outcomes of teleworking, such as: increased productivity, organizational loyalty, satisfaction and high morale, decreased level of stress and positive work-life balance. Majority of the surveys have got plenty of methodological limitations, thus the results are not to be generalized on wider population. Moreover, obtained data varies in different studies, so that telework with all it’s aspects needs further investigation. At the end of the article there are proposed new directions for the future research.

Zawód pielęgniarki należy do tych profesji, które zajmują wysokie pozycje w hierarchii prestiżu, gdyż jest uznawany za zawód o dużej użyteczności społecznej. Chociaż badania społeczne na to wskazują, w subiektywnej ocenie pielęgniarki czują się niedoceniane i niedowartościowane. Niniejszy artykuł ma charakter empiryczny. Celem jego jest ustalenie różnic w ocenie pielęgniarek i kobiet wykonujących inne zawody w czterech obszarach funkcjonowania zawodowego: 1) satysfakcja z pracy; 2) możliwości samorealizacji w pracy; 3) jakość atmosfery w miejscu pracy oraz 4) godzenie pracy zawodowej z życiem rodzinnym. Przebadano 100 pielęgniarek i 100 osób z grupy kontrolnej. Kontrolowano zmienne demograficzne dobierając osoby badane „metodą doboru parami” pod względem dwóch zmiennych: miejsca zamieszkania oraz wieku respondentek. W badaniach posłużono się zbudowanym dla niniejszych celów badawczych kwestionariuszem ankiety, składającym się z 28 pytań. Badania ujawniły, że pielęgniarki mają większe możliwości samorealizacji, jednak dzieje się to kosztem zaniedbywania rodziny i przyjaciół. Ich satysfakcję z pracy zakłóca poczucie niedoceniania i niezadowolenie z wynagrodzenia za pracę.
The profession of a nurse belongs to those professions that occupy high positions in the hierarchy of prestige. One of the main reasons for that is its great social usefulness. Although social research indicates that in their subjective assessment nurses feel undervalued. This article has an empirical character. Its purpose is to determine the differences in the assessment of nurses and women performing other professions in four areas of professional functioning: 1) job satisfaction; 2) opportunities for self-realization at work; 3) the quality of the atmosphere at the workplace; and 4) reconciliation of work and family life. During research 100 nurses and 100 people from the control group were examined. Demographic variables were controlled by selecting the respondents with the “pairing method” in terms of two variables: place of residence and age of the respondents. The questionnaire prepared for this research consisted of 28 questions. Research has revealed that nurses have greater opportunities for self-fulfilment, but with the cost of neglecting family and friends. Their job satisfaction is disrupted by a sense of undervaluation and dissatisfaction with remuneration for work.

Objectives This paper presents the results of research on the scale of psychosocial risks among miners. A comparative analysis was made, comparing the research results with the data obtained from workers in the following industries: metal, energy, chemical and construction – along with an indication of the relationship between stressful working conditions and the occupational functioning of the respondents. Material and Methods The study involved 483 adults employed in mines in Poland. The study on psychosocial risks in the workplace was performed using Psychosocial Risk Scale, developed by the Department of Health and Work Psychology of the Nofer Institute of Occupational Medicine, Łódź, Poland. Psychosocial Risk Scale is the scientifically validated diagnostic tool and is characterized by high reliability and validity of coefficients. Results The analysis of differences in occupational functioning between miners and other workers in heavy industry provides that miners are in general more healthy, less stressed, more positive emotionally and normatively committed to work, more satisfied with work, and more stable in the employment (as opposite to turnover intention) than the other workers. The results suggest that miners with a lower level of stress functioned at work better – they evaluated their health and ability to work better than miners with a higher level of stress. Their intention to change a job was lower than among those experiencing more stress. The most pronounced effect was observed for the influence on this dimension of functioning by job context risks (the higher level of probability, and the higher t-test value). Conclusions Occupational functioning of miners in Poland is better than the other employees in heavy industry. The analysis of differences in occupational functioning dimensions provides that a lower level of psychosocial risk in a workplace is connected with a higher level of job satisfaction, positive affective and normative work commitment and a lower level of turnover intension. Objectives Although there have been studies linking personality to selected aspects of functioning at work, Polish literature reports a shortage of detailed analyses considering, e.g., specific professional groups or certain variables. The aim of our study was to explore the links between personality traits and emotional labor, work engagement and job satisfaction among service workers. Material and Methods The study was based on a cross-sectional, self-report survey of 137 workers representing different service industries in Poland. Each participant received a demographic data sheet and a set of questionnaires: NEO Five-Factor Inventory, the Deep Acting and Surface Acting Scale, the Job Satisfaction Scale and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale – all in their Polish versions. Results A correlation analysis revealed numerous relationships between the examined variables. However, results of the regression analysis showed that only some personality traits were related with individual aspects of functioning at work. Neuroticism accounted for the phenomenon of faking emotions. Conscientiousness was significantly related to general work engagement, vigor and dedication. Agreeableness and neuroticism significantly predicted job satisfaction. Conclusions Individual personality traits account for various aspects of work functioning. Do czynników oddziałujących na satysfakcję z pracy zaliczono: samorealizację, relacje z przełożonymi i ze współpracownikami, posiadanie pracy (pewność pracy), organizację pracy oraz osiągnięcia zawodowe. Do cech socjodemograficznych następujące charakterystyki indywidualne jednostki: wiek, płeć, miejsce zamieszkania, wykształcenie, stanowisko pracy, staż pracy zawodowej ogólny i aktualny staż pracy w badanym przedsiębiorstwie. Wykorzystane w publikacji metody badawcze obejmują analizę literatury oraz technikę ankiety. Do opisania wyników badań posłużono się programami: Excel oraz Statistica. Końcową część opracowania stanowią wnioski z badań.
The subject matter of the article refers to the satisfaction of employees resulting from the provision of work through the employee. In the theoretical part, the concept of job satisfaction was defined and research on job satisfaction was invoked. In the empirical part of the article presented the results of a study on the relationship between selected factors of job satisfaction and socio-demographic characteristics of respondents. The factors included as those having influence on job satisfaction were: self-fulfillment, relationships with managers and co-workers, the concept of having a job (work certainty), work organization and professional achievement. And to the socio-demographic characteristics the individual characteristics of the individual were included: age, gender, place of residence, education, workplace, general work experience and current work experience in the surveyed enterprise. The research methods used in the publication include literature analysis and the survey technique. Excel and Statistica were used to describe the test results. The conclusions of the study are the final part of the paper.
