Opis:
Passive filters are widely used to mitigate the effect of load harmonics on the supply power grid. Topology selection of the filters is based on the frequency bandwidth to be suppressed. Filter topologies comprising single-tuned filters and damped filters are the most popular in industrial power system applications. The article focuses on the influence of the damped C-type 2nd harmonic filter on the transients behavior under arc transformer energization in the arc furnace power supply system compensated by SVC. The examination results of transient currents and voltages across capacitors and reactors of the 3rd and 5th passive filters are compared for two topologies of the SVC filter circuits: with and without C-type filter. The Matlab/Simulink Software was used to modeling filter behavior during unload transformer switching-on.

As many other industrial environments, the railway electromagnetic environment is characterized by a large number of electromagnetic signals and disturbances. Among these, transient signals, with high energy level and wide frequency spectrum, represent an important threat to different signaling subsystems. In this paper, a new methodology dedicated to the detection and the characterization of the transient disturbances is presented. Based on a flexible and adjustable time-frequency analysis, this methodology is used to evaluate the impact of transient disturbances on a ground-to-train radio communication. A test bench was developed in order to validate the results of this evaluation.

The practice of operating multiple single-tuned filters in AC electrical arc furnace power supply systems has shown, that frequent energizing unloaded furnace transformer can cause damage of the filters. To examination of supply and filter system configuration impact on switching transient and dynamic overvoltages and overcurrents, an example of 50 MVA arc furnace unit was chosen. The transient analysis has been carried out by simulating within Matlab/Simulink Software. Using ANSI/IEEE Standards paper focuses on the selections of ratings for capacitors and air-core reactors used in multiple single-tuned harmonic filters configurations. Comparison of filter reactor and capacitor bank design based on steady state operation and transformer energizing was shown.

Opis:
A mathematical model for control by transient modes of gas flows in the long-distance gas pipeline is considered in the paper. The long-distance pipeline is considered in the model as the system of Line segments serially connected via compressor stations. Gas motion in such system is described by the non-linear system of equations of gas dynamics. In the frame of this model the integral parameters which determine the expenditure of energy and durations of the transient mode are introduced. These parameters can be used for formulation the problems for optimal control steady-state and transient modes of operation of main-gas pipelines.

A great deal of work is being done on the betterment of control through simulation of the electric drives used for various high-power purposes. The authenticity of the simulated results is based on the accurate modeling of the various parts of the electric drive system. Three–phase Induction motors form an extremely important part of the modern day electric drive system and their usage is continuously on a rise owing to their inherent properties of ruggedness, minimum maintenance requirements and continually increasing efficiencies. Usually the three-phase Induction motor model used in various research works does not incorporate stator and rotor core losses, stator and rotor stray load losses and magnetizing saturation and rotor conductor skin effects. The present paper aims at developing a threephase Induction motor model taking the above losses and effects into account. The dynamic linking of the model to a thermal model considering the temperature dependent resistive elements is an added feature. The motor model described in this paper is the extension of the conventional 2-phase lumped-parameter induction motor model. The biggest advantage is that the model is user-programmable in MA TLAB environment and can be used for system level transient studies. The simulation results of the developed model, with various parameter variations taken into account and subjected to sudden changes in load, show better torque and speed performances of the motor both in steady state and dynamic conditions.

The paper focuses mainly on laboratory investigations of transient and transcritical flow in a single pipe of a sewer system. The aim of this paper is to present a comparison between pressure values calculated by an improved McCormack scheme and those measured at the hydraulic laboratory of the Gdansk University of Technology, which were observed inside a pipe in an experiment for water flow with pressurization. The analysis proves that the numerical approach applied to flow simulation is a sufficiently accurate and reliable technique for predicting the basic parameters of storm sewer flow.

This paper presents proposed developments of a new formulation and a full algorithm for transient detection by applying Parks transformation. This approach consist in transforming three-phase voltage or current signals into Parks components known as direct, quadrature, and zero axes components. The input signals are local measurements of a power transmission or distribution system. Then, transients are superimposed in three-phase signals that can be detected in Parks components through the finite difference between samples. A full algorithm for the transient detection is presented and envisions the possibility of being applied in real time. In order to demonstrate the proposed algorithms performance, four case studies are considered: capacitor energizing, distribution transformer energizing, permanent resistive fault, and high impedance fault. These cases were simulated on a typical Brazilian sub-transmission line using Alternative Transient Program. As demonstrated by the case studies, the proposed formulation introduces further improvements for transient detection in power systems.

The paper deals with a magnetostrictive fast-acting actuator applied as a driving device for plasma valve. The actuator is characterized by a relatively small displacement (les then 0.1 mm), but with a very short response time – below 0.1 ms. System is designed for so called “high intensity plasma pulses gun” which is applied in the area of plasma physics and material engineering [1]. A structure with an axisymmetrical actuator energised by discharged pulses of a capacitor has been proposed. The field-circuit mathematical model of the dynamic operation of the actuator has been applied. The model includes: the equation of transient electromagnetic field in a non-linear ferromagnetic material and equation of electric circuit. Using the Borland Delphi 9.0 environment, the computer software has been elaborated. Results of simulation are presented.

The computations of a transient magnetic field problem are presented. The problem has been constructed and solved in COMSOL Multiphysics which is one of the most popular and versatile commercial programs that allow to deal with solving electromagnetic field problems by means of the finite element method. A simple 2D problem of a coaxial cable has been chosen so that an analytical solution can be used in order to easily compute an error. The main topic of the paper concerns the comparison of the time-stepping methods that are available in COMSOL Multiphysics i.e. the BDF and generalized alpha methods. It is also possible to select various options for these methods, which have an influence on the solution accuracy. These have been also considered in the analysis.

In many real-world applications, such as in civil engineering, non-periodic composite materials are used, whose dynamical behaviour is still not deeply understood, especially concerning its wave scattering properties. In this paper, the scattering of a transient non-plane elastic SH wave by an arbitrary arrangement of identical multi-layered and thus inhomogeneous obstacles is investigated. The obstacles are embedded in a homogeneous, isotropic, and linear elastic matrix of infinite extent. The solution procedure is analytical and will then be evaluated numerically for investigating a small material clipping of a real-world problem.
W rzeczywistych obiektach, np. w inżynierii lądowej, zastosowanie znajdują materiały kompozytowe o strukturze nieperiodycznej. Dynamika takich elementów nadal pozostaje niedostatecznie rozpoznana, zwłaszcza w kontekście właściwości rozpraszania fal. W prezentowanej pracy omówiono problem rozpraszania przejściowych, niepłaskich fal sprężystości spolaryzowanych poziomo (typu SH) w dowolnym układzie identycznych, wielowarstwowych, i przez to niejednorodnych, ekranów tłumiących. Założono, że ekrany te zostały wbudowane w jednorodną, izotropową, liniowo-sprężystą osnowę o nieskończenie wielkich rozmiarach. Zaproponowano analityczne rozwiązanie problemu, które posłuży symulacjom numerycznym efektu słabego obcinania fali w materiale wybranego obiektu rzeczywistego.

Most papers dealing with calculations and simulations of the unsteady liquid pipe flow are based on the assumption that the formula for quasi-steady friction (Darcy-Weisbach formula) can be applied. In the case of fast changes, like fast transients e.g. water hammer, it fails. In this work, the wall shear stress is presented as a sum of quasi-steady and unsteady component. The unsteady component of the wall shear stress is modeled as a convolution of local fluid acceleration and a weighting function. The original weighting function has usually a very complicated structure, and what is more, makes impossible to carry out an efficient simulation of dynamical runs. In this paper, in order to enable efficient calculation of the unsteady component of the wall shear stress, new weighting functions are presented as sums of exponential components.
W dużej części prac, dotyczących obliczania oraz symulacji niestacjonarnego przepływu cieczy w przewodach ciśnieniowych, opory wyznacza się jedynie z dobrze znanej formuły Darcy-Weisbacha. Niestety w szybkozmiennych przepływach, takich jak np. uderzenie hydrauliczne, założenie quasi-stacjonarności oporów jest poważnym błędem. Wponiższej pracy naprężenie styczne na ściance przewodu wyznacza się z sumy quasi-stacjonarnego składnika oraz niestacjonarnego. Niestacjonarny składnik naprężenia stycznego modelowany jest jako splot lokalnego przyśpieszenia cieczy oraz funkcji wagi. Klasyczne funkcje wagi mają skomplikowaną postać, co uniemożliwia efektywne wyznaczanie oporów. W tej pracy przedstawione zostały nowe efektywne postacie funkcji wagowych o rozszerzonych zakresach stosowalności.

The paper contains an experimental verification of a new nomogram for determination of resonance vibration amplitudes in a vibratory machine driven by means of an inertia vibrator in the run-down phase. Unlike the Katz nomogram, it takes into consideration the interaction between the vibrator and machine body. The verification was performed for a case where the machine body was in curvilinear motion with its trajectory close to circular.
W pracy poddano weryfikacji doświadczalnej nowy nomogram do wyznaczenia amplitudy drgań rezonansowych maszyny wibracyjnej o napędzie za pomocą wibratora bezwładnościowego dla fazy wybiegu. W odróżnieniu od nomogramu Kaca uwzględnia on sprzężenie pomiędzy wibratorem a korpusem maszyny. Weryfikację przeprowadzono dla przypadku, w którym korpus maszyny wykonuje ruch postępowy o trajektorii zbliżonej do kołowej.

The leakage from submarine pipe network is investigated by a numerical model in this paper. A whole event including of the steady flow before the leakage, the transient flow during the leakage and the steady flow after the leakage is considered in the model. The numerical results of the discharge and the head compare with the theoretical solution under the condition of steady flow. Good agreement is obtained. The numerical results of the discharge and the head show that the discharge and the head in each pipe changes suddenly after the leakage occurring. The abrupt trend of the discharge in each pipe is not same completely. Some change upwards, while others downwards. However, the abrupt trend of the head is always downward. The effects of leakage discharge on the transient flow are also investigated. It is founded that the larger the leakage discharge, the more obvious the abrupt trend of the discharge and the head before or after the leakage is.

FACTS controllers are found to be effective in improving transient stability of power system. WSCC 9-bus system has been utilized as test system developed in MATLAB/Simulink software. This paper investigates the improvement of transient stability of a 3-machine 9-bus WSCC system using STATCOM and TCSC and their relative performances are studied with the help of simulation results validated with OPAL-RT real time simulator. Particular attention is paid to real-time simulation approach which provides adequate and comprehensive modeling of electric power systems (EPS) containing FACTS. Simulation results are quite encouraging and show the effectiveness of STATCOM and TCSC in improving transient stability of the test system.

General solution representations for velocity and pressure fields describing transient flows at small Reynolds numbers (Stokes flows) and flows obeying Brinkman models are presented. The geometry dependent vector representations emerge from the incompressibility condition and are expressed in terms of just two scalar functions similar to the Papkovich-Neuber and Boussinesq-Galerkin solution type. We provide new formulae connecting our differential representations and other solutions describing unsteady Stokes flow including Lamb’s (1932) general infinite series solution. The unified approach presented here further demonstrates an important link between oscillatory flows and flow through porous media using Brinkman models. It is shown that the solutions of boundary value problems in the latter can be obtained in a straightforward fashion, from the results of the former. This simple but surprising analogy is further explained using the properties (mathematical as well as physical) that are shared by the two different models. The construction of certain physical quantities is also illustrated for spherical and spheroidal inclusions. It is believed that the general solutions presented here will be useful in the computation of multi-particle interactions in transient and Brinkman flows and also in linear elasticity.
