Opis:
Combustion synthesis is capable of producing many types of refractory and ceramic materials, as well as metals, with a relatively lower cost and shorter time frame than other solid state synthetic techniques. TiO2 with Mg as reductant were dry mixed and hand compacted into a 60 mm diameter mold and then combusted under an Ar atmosphere. Depending on the reaction parameters (Mg concentration 2 ≤ α ≤ 4), the thermocouples registered temperatures between 1160°C and 1710°C . 3 mol of Mg gave the optimum results with combustion temperature (Tc) and combustion velocity (Uc) values of 1372°C and 0.26 cm/s respectively. Furthermore, this ratio also had the lowest oxygen concentration in this study (0.8 wt%). After combustion, DC plasma treatment was carried out to spheroidize the Ti powder for use in 3D printing. The characterization of the final product was performed using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and N/O analysis.

Opis:
With the recent advancement in technology for titanium metal powder injection molding and additive manufacturing, high yield and good flowability powder production is needed. In this study, titanium powder was produced through vacuum induction melting gas atomization with a cold crucible, which can yield various alloy compositions without the need for material pretreatment. The gas behavior in the injection section was simulated according to the orifice protrusion length for effective powder production, and powder was prepared based on the simulation results. The gas distribution changes with the orifice protrusion length, which changes the location of the recirculation zone and production yield of the powder. The produced powders had a spherical morphology, and the content of impurities (N, O) changed with the injected-gas purity.

Opis:
The aim of this work was to obtain porous titanium sponges in a powder metallurgy process which might be applied as medical implants. The attempt of process optimization was carried out. Selection of parameters such as biological solution, temperature of thermal treatment and porogen amount allowed to obtain titanium samples with different porosity and proper mechanical properties. Two types of obtaining methods were presented in this work. First (thermal treatment in argon atmosphere) which was not sufficient due to material destruction and second (thermal treatment in vacuum atmosphere) which allows to obtain titanium samples with expected parameters.

W pracy przedstawiono analizę odporności korozyjnej nowych stopów tytanu otrzymanych metodą metalurgii proszków. Przedmiotem analizy były krzywe potencjodynamiczne wykonane na podstawie danych uzyskanych z urządzenia ATLAS 9933 ELEKTROCHEMICAL INTERFACE. Korzystając z programu POL-99 wyznaczono wartości potencjałów korozyjnych oraz prądów korozji spieków tytanowych. Porównano charakterystyki korozyjne nowych stopów tytanowych i li- tego stopu handlowego – Ti6Al4V. Stwierdzono przesunięcie potencjału korozyjnego badanych spieków w stronę wyższych potencjałów względem stopu handlowego.
This article presents analysis of corrosion resistance of the titanium alloys obtained by powder metallurgy method. The potenciodynamic curves made from data obtained from the ATLAS 9933 ELEKTROCHEMICAL INTERFACE device were analyzed. Corrosion potentials and corrosion currents of sintered titanium were evaluated by the POL-99. The characteristics of corrosion of new titanium alloys and solid commercial alloy-Ti6Al4V were compared. It was found that corrosion potentials of sintered materials are displaced into higher potential than commercial alloy.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to indicate the influence of consolidation processes on microstructure and selected mechanical properties of powder metallurgy Ti-5Al-5Mo-5V-3Cr alloy, which was produced by blending of elemental powders method. Morphology of the mixture and its ingredients were examined using scanning electron microscopy. The consolidation of powders mixture was conducted using two approaches. The first consisted of the uniaxial hot pressing process, the second included two steps – uniaxial cold pressing process and sintering under argon protective atmosphere. Microstructural analysis was performed for both as-pressed compacts using light microscopy. Additionally, computed tomography studies were carried out, in order to examine the internal structure of compacts. Chosen mechanical properties, such as Vickers hardness and compression strength was also determined and compared. The conducted research proves that the proposed production method leads to obtain materials with no structural defects and relatively low porosity. Moreover, due to the proper selection of manufacturing parameters, favorable microstructures can be received, as well as mechanical properties, which are comparable to conventionally produced material with the corresponding chemical composition.

Opis:
Nowadays, titanium is one of the most popular materials for aeronautical applications due to its good corrosion resistance, formability and strength. In this paper, rutile reinforced titanium matrix composites were produced via powder metallurgy. The steps included high energy ball milling of raw titanium and rutile powders in a planetary ball mill, which was followed by cold-pressing and sintering without external pressure. For the characterization of the milled powders and the sintered composites, scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction and compressive strength examinations were carried out. The results showed that the rutile has a strengthening effect on the titanium matrix. 1 wt% rutile increased the compressive strength compared to the raw titanium. Increasing the milling time of the metal matrix decreased the compressive strength values.

Electrical discharges using a capacitance of 450 μF at 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 kJ input energies were applied in a N2 atmosphere to obtain the mechanical alloyed Ti3Al powder without applying any external pressure. A solid bulk of nanostructured Ti3Al was obtained as short as 160 μsec by the Electrical discharge. At the same time, the surface has been modified into the form of Ti and Al nitrides due to the diffusion process of nitrogen to the surface. The input energy was found to be the most important parameter to affect the formation of a solid core and surface chemistry of the compact.

Opis:
Characteristics of electro-discharge-sintering of the Ti-37.5at.% Si powder mixture was investigated as a function of the input energy, capacitance, and discharge time without applying any external pressure. A solid bulk of Ti5Si3 was obtained only after in less than 129 μsec by the EDS process. During a discharge, the heat is generated to liquefy and alloy the particles, and which enhances the pinch pressure can condensate them without allowing a formation of pores. Three step processes for the self-consolidation mechanism during EDS are proposed; (a) a physical breakdown of oxide film on elemental as-received powder particles, (b) alloying and densifying the consolidation of powder particles by the pinch pressure, and (c) diffusion of impurities into the consolidated surface.

Opis:
This paper presents a method based on the use of fuzzy logic for the rapid selection of optimal induction sintering parameters. The prepared fuzzy controller uses expert knowledge developed from the results of induction sintering tests of Ti-5Al-5Mo-5V-3Cr alloy green compacts produced from a mixture of elemental powders. The analysis of the influence of the applied sintering parameters on the material characteristics was based on the evaluation of the microstructure state and the measurement of the relative density of the samples after sintering. In this way, a universal tool for estimating the sintering parameters of titanium powder-based green compacts was obtained. It was shown that with the help of fuzzy logic it is possible to analyze the influence of the parameters of the manufacturing process of metal powder materials on the quality of the obtained products.
