The objective of this paper is to identify and define the main differences in modern Western and Classical Indian approaches to the theory of art, and by extension to the work of art itself. It is important in research on the history of art to avoid a cultural bias resulting from different theoretical approaches towards art and the basis of visual culture. Three main areas are examined: the classification of art or art disciplines, the theory of the senses and strategies in the perception of art. The first part analyses concerns about the origin of art, its boundaries and inner divisions. This serves top identify the scope of the Field of Art, connections between disciplines (theatre, music, painting, sculpture, etc.), and their position in the Art World. The following Sanskrit treatises serve as a basis: Nāṭya-śāstra, Kāma-sūtra, Viṣṇu-dharmôttara-purāṇa. A significant distinction can be found in the theory of the senses. Based on Saṃyutta Nikāya, Nyāya-sūtra, Vaiśeṣika- sūtra, etc. classical concepts of sensual perception and their roles are examined, with special emphasis on the position of the mind (manas) as a sixth sense or inner organ linked to senses. With that background, a brief analysis of the theory of taste (rasa), including the roles of emotion (bhāva) and mind (manas), is presented.

In my article, I briefly present the axioms of Leon Chwistek’s theory of manifold reality (TMR). This theory is the basis of his theory of art (TMRA). The aim of my article is to present and discuss psychological foundations of Chwistek’s theory of art. In particular, I present and discuss: (1) two meanings of the notion “work of art” derived on the basis of two relations: work – experience of enthusiasm, and work – aesthetic experience; (2) two meanings of the notion “content of the work of art”; (3) relations between the axioms (beliefs) of TMR and means of every type of art contained in TMRA.

The paper analyzes the thesis that constantly transgressing boundaries in art is a fundamental principle and essential condition for artistic progress. Crossing external (the art – other discourses) and internal (between various art genres) boundaries is analyzed on the basis of transformations (especially adaptation) and representations. Dialogue relations initialized by art crossing the boundaries are analyzed as well: reinterpretations, polemics, extensions and supplementations. There is also a discussion of the ways in which semiotic and media boundaries are trangressed, especially the semiotic and media borders that are essential for the semiotic sphere of one artistic genre for the semiotic and media sphere of the other. The article refers to examples taken from literature, film, sculpture and painting.

In democratic legal systems there is a wide variety of instruments which profoundly affect the composition of future parliaments. They can cause significant changes in final results of both the parliamentary and municipal election. Due to them political parties can improve their position in emerging legislatures (gmina councils, poviat councils or sejmiks of the voivodeship), or even, I mean smaller formations in the first place, can guarantee any representatives in the chamber (council, sejmik). Politicians make use of these instruments most frequently in the face of the oncoming election. These mechanisms allow, on the grounds of binding law, to cause a result much worse than expected for the opposition or formations competing for power. In countries with deeply rooted democracy, it is most often a good political habit that makes any changes in the Electoral law take place long from the election. In our political reality, however, it is a rule that the election campaign is accompanied by auctions on legal grounds. Namely, changes in the borders of election districts take place, vote calculation methods are modernised so that they would be naturally beneficial for those who carry out such normative transformations.

The present paper aims to show that the linguistic characterization of various phenomena designed to be taught in French – foreign language (FLE) is likely to be innovative in that it approaches these phenomena in a more principled and coherent way. First, it is demonstrated that the teaching of a spoken language is largely practised in terms of a particular mode of speech production, inspired by the acquisitional theory of rewording (Fr. théorie acquisitionnelle de la reformulation). Euclid's 'Elements' Book V develops theory of proportion of 'geometric magnitudes'. Definition V,5 is the definition of proportion, A:B::C:D, definition V,7 is the definition of the order of ratios, A:B - C:D. In commentaries on Book V it is usually supposed, and sometimes even proved, that the order of ratios is a total order, while it is also supposed that 'magnitudes of the same kind' obey the Archimedean axiom only, i.e. Euclid's definition V,4. The purpose of this paper is to show that the linearity of the order of ratios cannot be deduced from the Archimedean axiom; to this end we define a structure of magnitudes that obeys the Archimedean axiom and show that the conjunction of negations is satisfied (for mathematical symbols applied see the original paper).

eTh article discusses the factors that encourage the use of the achievements of the broadly understood current of sociobiology in political science research. eTh guid ing thesis here is the assumption that the eefctive use of the achievements of sociobiol ogy for political science research may be an important factor inspiring new interpretations, explanations and forms of viewing the political sphere of social life. At the same time, it stimulates a broad view of the complexity of mutual relations between the sphere of culture and politics and biological factors. eTh condition for such a perspective is a de parture from the reduced, genetically determinist perception of sociobiology and the understanding of culture and politics both in terms of products and determinants of the natural environment. eTh structure of the argument is subordinated to attempts to an swer the following questions: Why is it worth being interested in using neo-evolutionist concepts to explain and describe the political sphere of social life? The article presents the students’ personal knowledge as a crucial element of the learning and teaching process. The discovery of personal knowledge by psychologists caused a paradigmatic turn in the theory of teaching. While the conceptions inspired by behaviourism do not take into consideration the personal knowledge and notice/see only the public knowledge assigned by the formal curriculum and textbooks, the constructivist conceptions place personal knowledge very high among the factors significant for the learning process. However, its status is still controversial as far as we treat it not only as a starting point for learning but as a final point determining personalisation of new knowledge as well. To explain this mechanism, the author uses the notions of „a mental gentling of the public knowledge” and „a cognitive partnership”.

Aim. The aim of the paper was to point out that the hierarchy of values is considered the most reliable prognostic sign that expresses whether a person can behave in accordance with his environment. The author identifies the causes of the current crisis of value orientations, discusses the influence of family and school on the creation and transformation of values in the lives of young people. Methods. Through analytical-synthetic and inductive methods, the author identifies the influence of consumer society and family on the creation of value systems of children and youth. It points to the pedagogy of free time and its connection to the theories and functions of free time. Results. The author provides a summary of theoretical meanings, summaries and theories in the field of value orientation of children and youth, discovered factors that influence the development and formation of value orientation, discovered the share of family, peers and free time in the creation of a value ranking. Conclusions. Any changes in society brought a wider spectrum of information, freedom of speech, opportunities for social mobility and education, but also deepening of social inequality, deterioration of interpersonal relations, moral relativism and value chaos. Current problems of society's development and their solution also affect the way of life of young people, the process of its quantitative changes, including attitudes to life and value orientation.

Ewa Domańska, Professor at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (Poland) and Stanford University (USA), historian of historiography and methodologist of history, formulated interesting comments about the state of humanities and social sciences. The development of interdisciplinary research causes the interpenetration of different disciplines. Although this kind of research is promising, inspiring as well as influencing the development of science, careless research may cause some threats in the longer term. According to Domańska, the lack of qualifications and reliability in this area (especially in the area of theory and methodology) undermines the authonomy of the main disciplines and decline in the professionalism of research. This led the author to create the project, which aims to defend the independence of the threatened disciplines as well as their ‘re-professionalisation’. It can be achieved by strongly emphasizing the role of theory in science; a strong embeddement of a discipline in the theory. Domańska’s concept can be a recipe, which is a dichotomic project. Firstly, it supposes a ‘practical methodology’, which is a constructing of the theory thanks to empirical research material. Secondly, it supposes a ‘virtue epistemology’, which is the ethical aspect of the researcher’s attitude and his work. The aim of the paper is to discuss Domańska’s project and underline the originality of her concept in the context of economic and social sciences. The economic history is a specific discipline which develops at the crossroad of history and economics. It lets me put forward the thesis that Domańska’s suggestions are relevant to the research of economic history. I will show what cognitive chances are the result of the ontology of economic history. I will question what the possible threats are for the main disciplines (history and economics) as a result of the lack of professionalism in the interdisciplinary research of the economic past, and ask if Domańska’s project is attractive for the economic history research thanks to the strong setting in the ‘practical methodology’ in the theory. I also ask what the role of new theoretical approaches in that area is, and whether it is possible to formulate innovatory conceptions in the economic history. Finally, I question the role of ‘virtue epistemology’ or the ethical aspect of an economic historian’s work.

Ewa Domańska, a distinguished historian of historiography and the methodologist of history, has provided an insightful commentary on the state of humanities and social sciences. The development of interdisciplinary research in social sciences and humanities has resulted in varying outcomes and interpenetrations. Interdisciplinary research helps the development of science. However, studies undertaken with less rigor may pose some threats into the long term. According to Domańska, the lack of qualifications and care (especially with respect to theory and methodology) may undermine the autonomy of a disciplines and the credibility of research in the given field. This timely warning prompted the author to create the project with the aim to assert the independence of the threatened disciplines and to “re-professionalize” these areas of study. This is to be achieved by emphasizing the role of theory in science-a strong embeddedness of a discipline in the theory. Domańska’s concept, in the form of a dichotomous project, seems to be a recipe for achieving this goal. It presupposes, on the one hand, a “practical methodology”, i.e. constructing the theory basing on empirical research material, and on the other hand the so-called “virtue epistemology”, which stresses an ethical aspect of the researcher’s attitude and labour. The aim of the paper is to discuss Domańska’s project and to draw attention to the originality of her concept in the context of economic and social sciences. The economic history is a peculiar discipline founded at the intersection of history and economics. Thus, it is possible to put forward the thesis that Domańska’s suggestions are relevant to the research of economic history. The author will seek to determine what cognitive opportunities arise from the ontology of economic history and their potential threats to the main disciplines of history and economics. The article will also examine if Domańska’s project is appropriate for the economic history research as it is deeply embedded in “practical methodology”, and so in theory. Next, the author aims to consider the role of new theoretical approaches in this field, and whether it is possible to formulate novel concepts within the scope of the economic history. Finally, the author will attempt to assess the significance of “virtue epistemology” or the ethical aspect of an economic historian’s work.

Celem opracowania jest wskazanie powiązań między wybranymi socjologicznymi teoriami przestępczości a zarysowanym na ich tle zjawiskiem przestępczości kobiet. Wstępna charakterystyka wskazanej kategorii teorii umożliwia w rezultacie określenie tych aspektów, które na tle ogólnych założeń wyznaczają ich relacje ze szczególną kategorią sprawców: kobiet. Ze względu na dążenie do skonfrontowania poczynionych rozważań teoretycznych z ustaleniami natury empirycznej, w opracowaniu wskazano wybrane kategorie przestępstw popełnionych przez kobiety w Polsce w okresie obowiązywania kodeksu karnego z 1997 r. Takie ujęcie pozwala na ustalenie, czy założenia analizowanych koncepcji teoretycznych znalazły potwierdzenie w przedstawionych badaniach, a także czy konieczne jest ich ewentualne przemodelowanie. Ponadto zasadniczym założeniem pracy jest także wykazanie, czy jednoczynnikowe teorie przestępczości w konfrontacji ze zjawiskiem przestępczości kobiet są w stanie kompleksowo określić jego istotę, czy też niezbędne jest sięgnięcie do teorii złożonych, by w pełni zrozumieć analizowany problem. Struktura opracowania wpłynęła na zastosowanie dwóch metod badawczych: dogmatycznej oraz empirycznej.
The aim of the study is to indicate the links between selected sociological theories of crime and the phenomenon of women’s crime. The initial characteristics of the indicated category of theories makes it possible to define further those aspects which, in the context of general assumptions, determine their relations with a particular category of perpetrators: women. In attempt to confront theoretical considerations with the findings of empirical nature, the study indicates selected categories of crimes committed by women in Poland when the Criminal Code of 1997 was in force. Such an approach allows the final determination whether the assumptions of the analysed theoretical concepts have been confirmed by the presented research, or whether their potential remodelling is necessary. The structure of the study has determined the application of two research methods: dogmatic and empirical.

The issue of the relation between the mind and the brain is known as one of the most discussed problem of the philosophy of mind. The recent development of neuroscience contributed significantly to animate the discussion on this subject. This article is one voice in this discussion. It contains a critical analysis of some arguments in favor of the theory which claims that the mind is identical to the brain. Moreso, it is argued, that the observed correlations between physical and mental events cannot be treated as a proof that there is no difference between the mind and the brain.

Opis:

An overview of contemporary studies on the issue of theory of mind in deaf children is presented in the article. The author analyses conditions of developmental delays revealed by deaf children raised in hearing families. This delay is not, however, a simple consequence of deafness per se, but rather a result of interaction of deafness influence, and contextual linguistic and cultural variables. Child’s participation in conversations carried out using sign language, regarding mental states and processes, both at home and in school, seems to be crucial for the natural course of the development of false belief understanding. Practical implication of cited conferrals comes down to the postulate of a signing model in the development of a child brought up in a hearing family and the common bilingual education, based on the assumption that a deaf child must first master sign language, and then national language as a foreign one,because even in native signing families, ToM development in deaf children may be delayed if the child is educated in an oral education-oriented school.

Father Erich Wasmann, a German Jesuit, played the crucial role in the debates with monists on the interpretation of theory of evolution. He showed that monistic interpretation of this theory is not necessary, and he proposed theistic interpretation of evolution. In this paper the history of these debates, that took place in Germany in 1907 was presented together with the philosophical examination of the arguments used by opponents. The second part of this paper presents how those debates influenced philosophical and theological thought in Poland.

The aim of the paper is to present critical analysis of Kazimierz Ajdukiewicz's theory of questions. Generally, the author concentrates on four elements of Ajdukiewicz's theory of questions: the structure of question, the classification of questions, the concept of presuppositions of questions and the concept of answer. Ajdukiewicz's contributions in the domain of logic of questions are unquestionable. However, there are still many 'gaps' in his conception of questions that need to be filled. He proposes some improvements to this conception. They include an explication of the concepts of 'query' and 'tenor', a classification of complementation questions by use of categorial grammar, enriching the concept of 'assumptions' by the concept of 'pragmatic assumptions', and an explication of the concept of 'answer' (in general).

Discussions on the status and nature of lexicography have been ongoing since at least the 1960s. Some of the most frequently discussed issues concern lexicographical theory, including its very existence, which some scholars find problematic. And if it is considered to exist, questions as to what can be treated as a lexicographic theory arise: Is it a theory of dictionary making practice? Is it a linguistic theory? Is it a separate lexicographical theory? The aim of the article is to present and comment on the divergent positions. Finally, the author draws attention to the factors that cause that the discussion on lexicographical theory is not always conducted at the appropriate scientific level.

The paper is concerned with stability properties of bounded outer inverses for bounded operators on Banach spaces. We investigate the effect of perturbations of subspaces generating outer inverses for a given operator. We prove that the convergence of respective gaps between subspaces implies the convergence in the norm of outer inverses generated by these subspaces. The notion of outer inverses is illustrated by an example which gives the form of outer inverses for an arbitrary matrix.

Back in ancient times leaders such as Hammurabi, Solon, and especially Justinian the Great, and many others, while attempting to codify and reform the law, were driven by the ideal of “good law”. ! is same idea inspired Montesquieu in his De l’esprit des lois (“! e Spirit of the Laws”). Monumental legal acts in Napoleon’s times or the time of German unifi cation, as well as copying these acts into the legal systems of the countries of the Far East, for example, Japan, serve as additional examples on how tempted leaders have been able to implement the idea of “good law”, which, quite frequently, is directly stated in the preamble to leading legal acts.

Rozwój tych trzech dziedzin szczegółowych teorii pedagogicznych ma wyraźnie polską tożsamość i kierunek badań. W opracowaniu przyjęto założenie o nadrzędności pojęcia książki szkolnej (w stosunku do podręcznika) jako publikacji przeznaczonej dla szkoły. Dotychczas podręcznik i książka szkolna były pojęciami właściwie tożsamymi, stosowanymi wymiennie.
The development of the theory and practice of textbook is inextricably linked with the development of the theory of school books, technical theory of teaching and media education. The development of these three specific areas of pedagogical approach is clearly Polish identity and direction of research. The study assumes the primacy of the concept of educational book (compared to the manual) as a publication intended for the school. So far school textbook and the book were identical terms, used interchangeably.

In article, author pay attention to the potential and scope of the impact of new forms of communication on the form and content of theoretical research. In principle, such an effect can be seen in two related, but different dimensions of analysis. The paper can be regarded as a short and informal introduction to noncommutative calculi of probability. The standard theory of probability is reformulated in the algebraic language. In this form it is readily generalized to that its version which is virtually present in quantum mechanics, and then generalized to the so-called free theory of probability. Noncommutative theory of probability is a pair (M, φ) where M is a von Neumann algebra, and φ a normal state on M which plays the role of a noncommutative probability measure. In the standard (commutative) theory of probability, there is, in principle, one mathematically interesting probability measure, namely the Lebesgue measure, whereas in the noncommutative theories there are many nonequivalent probability measures. Philosophical implications of this fact are briefly discussed.

The paper describes the logical and at the same time the proper theory of the Newton’s law of universal gravitation in the universe. It presents the observed principles of “attraction” as a phenomenon of repulsion based on the difference of dark matter pressure. The cause to write an article was a question how to examine emotions which are of spatial nature. While the colloquial language copes with “spatiality” of feelings – it knows emotions and calls them (mood, atmosphere, climate, colour) – sociology has not developed a category enabling a systematic analysis of this phenomenon so far. In the theory of arts, the situation is different. The leading subject of the text is reflection on possibility of combining the theory of art and sociology of emotions. The proposed link is to be the concept of image treated as “sensitizing concept” (Herbert Blumer). In the article, I refer to the concepts having their roots in philosophy, social psychology and sociology of emotions which touch upon the issue of spatiality of emotions and compare them to the concepts related to the theory of image.

The study was aimed at examining the usefulness of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) in predicting exercise intentions and exercise of women in fitness classes. On the theoretical plane it broadens state of knowledge on the TPB, but the findings are also important for the development of more effective interventions to promote and maintain exercise engagement of women in fitness centers. The study was carried out in the second quarter of 2016 in two fitness centers in Katowice, Poland. The participants were 95 women aged 17–66 (M = 37.40 ±12.15). The obtained data were analyzed with the use of structural equation modelling (path analysis). Significant predictors of intention to exercise were perceived behavioural control and attitude, with the strongest effect observed in the former. The findings of the study suggest that interventions should focus on increasing the level of control over women’s exercise behaviours and shaping attitudes toward them.

Opis:

General frames and approach of institutional theory of contracts enable the presentation of traditions and the development of homo contractus conception as well as exploration area of conflict interests between state and economy which is connected with its activity. Discussions about the beginnings of institutional doctrine and jurisprudence devoted a lot of attention to relations of three key notions. I think that from the depths of antropoethology emerged the notion of instinct. For T. Veblen – a master of “old” institutional economics – it was enough to define the “institution” notion and for modern “new” institutional economists it served as facilitation for the analysis of behavior of contractors. Jurists and economists met very early – rather as friends – on the area of the second notion – custom – and its role in establishing state laws. The agreeable cooperation was disturbed in debate about the last notion – institution. An important question arises: Is an institution a part of Justinian Code or a pattern of behavior inherited from the past? Antiquity cannot cross the border between praxis and science though it created such monuments as Hammurabi Code. Roman law is now an accepted source of science of European law. The precision of liabilities law, the synthesis of Greek and Roman thought and elasticity of authorities facilitated the adaptation of norms of tribal law. Emerging new economic doctrines – canonistic, mercantilism, physiocratism and finally classical economics − opened the area for social-economic contacts widely and helped to reach a lot compromise also in contracting. Contemporary theory of contracts occupies a prominent place in universal economic thought and is now a good partner in relations with jurisprudence. The challenge for our community are realities of integration and globalization processes causing conflicts in the area of contracts control. More and more attention is devoted to the questions of law and economics, the fame of Chicago School is growing, there are some Nobel Prizes and teaching this discipline in Poland is successful.

Does anyone need the rhetorical theory of literature? The new various directions of the literary research are continiously appearing. Together with them, new perspectives of the research of the literary texts are opening up. They allow to ask questions concerning the language generated by them, with the use of which they shape the literary discourse. Being aware of the consequences of the linguistic shift for the research on culture, today the rethorical viewpoint in the conduct of the theoretical discourse is adopted. At the same time, the attention is paid to the phrases, style, as well as the metaphors used in the current literary research. The entire reflection is accompanied by the comparative spirit, that is, a certain transdisciplinary openness, which calls for abandoning the internal literary field by the theoretical research, and entering the wide field of the culture research. This process is especially visible in the new theoretical-literary directions (cognitive humanities, constructivism, affective theory of literature etc.) and enables to assign to the comparative literature the role of a binder of the taken discourse on the border between theory and rethorics.

Opis:

The philosophical and pedagogical work of Jean Jacques Rousseau still raises many disputes and polemical debates. In this article, the authors focus on only one concept – perfectibilité, which is, according to them, the key to understanding his theories. By using the concept of perfectibilité, Rousseau defines the ambivalent characteristic of modern man, i.e., his ontological need to learn. The article consists of three parts. In the first, the authors try to locate the concept of perfectibilité in Rousseau’s philosophical and pedagogical texts. In the second, the meaning of the term is reconstructed in relation to the conditions of becoming a man. Finally, in the third, the project of upbringing and education from Rousseau’s Emil is re-read.

In the paper I resume some problems concerning the teaching of historiography at the Faculties of History in Poland. Having thirty hours to present historiography from Antiquity to Present Times, the Polish scholars must answer to the following questions: is it necessary to discuss with students every stage of the development of history, or maybe would it be bett er to focus on the twentieth century historical schools and tendencies? In what proportion the national history should be included in the universal one? Based on my personal teaching experience, I try to show how that kind of dilemas could be resolved.

Understanding of ambiguity in 5-year-old children in the context of the development of theory of mind Research studies on ambiguity are related to different areas – communication, language and processing of perceptual stimuli. Results obtained from most research show that children under the age of six can neither react  dequately to ambiguous linguistic or visual stimuli nor understand ambiguous statements. A hypothesis about the relation between understanding ambiguity and the development of the knowledge about the mind was proposed after an analysis of existing experimental data. Four different tasks testing the understanding of ambiguity had been used and it was found out that their level of difficulty varied. There was no connection between the performance in solving tasks of different types. The relation between the understanding of ambiguity and the development of the knowledge of mind was indicated. Children performed better in false beliefs test than in tasks testing their understanding of ambiguity. There was a correlation between performance in particular tasks testing the understanding of false beliefs and tasks testing the understanding of ambiguity.

The Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) is a theory from the field of psychology that was developed by Icek Ajzen in 1985 in order to predict and change human behavior. The theory works with three basic inputs concerning the studied behavior of the person. These then lead to an intention to behave in a certain way. Over the years the theory has been successfully applied to research in various fields. By using the method of systematic review, deduction, induction and synthesis, the article looks into the use of the TPB research model in connection with tax law and economics. One of the areas where tax law and economics meet is taxes. Hence the aim of the article is to confirm or disapprove the hypothesis that firstly TPB has been used in connection with taxes over the last ten years. If this hypothesis is confirmed then it is the aim to determine in which areas it has been applied. Secondly to confirm or disapprove the hypothesis that TPB has been used in connection with taxes in all seven world regions as divided by the World Bank. If that hypothesis is correct the aim is to determine how it has been applied in the Czech Republic and with what results.

Konflikt jest obecny w każdym wymiarze życia społecznego, dlatego recypowanie wiedzy o hipotetycznych możliwościach jego wystąpienia oraz efektywnym zarządzaniu procesem dochodzenia do porozumienia jest zasadniczą rolą każdej jednostki społecznej funkcjonującej w przestrzeni publicznej. Teoria wymiany stanowi doskonałe tło badawcze do uzasadnienia budowy harmonijnych relacji międzyludzkich. Rozszerzenie analiz wymiany poza cele materialne, na usługi, symbole i uczucia, stanowi również podstawę do objęcia analizami przypadków wszystkich typów relacji. Eksploracja strategii perswazyjnych w teorii wymiany umożliwia ukazanie ich wielowarstwowych profitów, daleko wykraczających poza uzyskanie indywidualnych, egocentrycznych korzyści. Podniesienie jakości i formy przekazywanych treści, kreatywność w reagowaniu na komunikaty drugiej strony, weryfikacja zastanych norm, ocena i modyfikacje kontroli społecznej są tylko przykładowymi z wielu profitów wynikłych ze stosowania strategii perswazyjnych. Kluczowym celem strategii perswazyjnych jest podniesienie poziomu relacji międzyludzkich do pułapu, w którym wszystkie zaangażowane w interakcje strony wykazują satysfakcję i ze spokojem konstruują plany budowy przyszłych kontaktów niezależnie od stopnia ich skomplikowania.
The author tackles the issue of analysis of selected sociological theories of conflict and communication and presents them in the context of supplementing concepts which may aid in explaining progress of social interactions. The departure from perceiving a conflict as a pejorative phenomenon enables social individuals to activate the resources enabling perceiving a dispute as a chance at increasing problem-solving capabilities of a system through confronting deficiencies in internal balance. The author emphasizes the significance of conflict management which assumes balancing emotions and rationality. Conflicts are present in all aspects of social life therefore receiving knowledge regarding hypothetical possibility for emergence of a conflict and efficiently managing the process of reaching an agreement is of crucial importance for each social unit operating in public space. The theory of communication constitutes an excellent research backdrop for justifying developing harmonious interpersonal relations. Expanding the analysis beyond the material goals, into the area of services, symbols and feeling also constitutes a foundation for covering all types of relations with analysis. Exploring strategies of persuasion in the communication theory enables us to present the multi-layer and complex benefits and profits of said strategies which reach far beyond reaching individualistic, self-centred gains. Improving the quality and form of the conveyed messages, creativity in reacting to communication of the other party, verifying contemporary standards, assessment and modification of the social control are only some of the examples of numerous benefits of implementing persuasion strategies. The key goal of persuasion strategies is improving the level of interpersonal relation to the level when all parties engaged in interactions demonstrate satisfaction and calmly develop designs for establishing future contact regardless of their degree of complexity.

The article is an attempt of the analysis and the interpretation of the categories ‘pleasure’ (Fr. plaisir) and ‘delight’ (Fr. jouissance), in the context of philosophically oriented theoretical‑literary considerations of Roland Barthes, sacrificed to the mystery of experiencing of the love. The part first, referring mainly to Barthes’ works, recognises the range of the semantic field plaisir and jouissance, as categories basic for the textual language of the outstanding theoretician. Tekst jest poświęcony problemowi implementacji nieobliczalności w świecie realnym. Podstawowe pytanie jest takie: czy logiczna nieefektywność ma swoją realizację w świecie fizycznym, albo, czy niealgorytmiczność posiada swój „fizyczny/ materialny” nośnik? Konkluzja jest zaś następująca: algorytmicznie zinterpretowana teoria chaosu deterministycznego koresponduje z przypadkową/nierozstrzygalną częścią matematyki. Trzeba przy tym jednak stale mieć na względzie, że zawsze jest to nierozstrzygalność, niealgorytmiczność, przypadkowość z modelu, w którym dokonujemy deskrypcji.
The paper is devoted to the problem of the implementation of incomputability in the real world. It considers the following basic question: has logical noneffectiveness its realization in the physical world or, has non-algorithmicity a physical/ material medium? The conclusion is: the algorithmically interpreted theory of deterministic chaos corresponds with the non-random/decidable part of mathematics. It should be, however, taken into account that it is always the nonalgorithmicity, randomness of models in which a description is formed.

American legal realism is commonly treated as a theory-pariah. The article exposes certain reasons explaining such a treatment. Generally, it seems that such an attitude is a result of many misunderstandings of realist aims and ambitions, some of which pertain to the theoretical status of legal realism and its relation to so called general jurisprudential theories, such as legal positivism. In the first part of the article I explain generally what these aims were and how one should see these relations. In the second part I briefly analyze B. Leiter’s famous claim that legal realism is conceptually dependent on hard legal positivism (as a general theory of law). The critique of this claim opens the possibility for some alternative understanding of legal realism.

There is presented the practical application example of the theory of constraints, in the paper. In all enterprises from engineering industry, the main problem connected with realization of production orders are the constraint existing in every production system. Searching and increasing of the bottleneck (constraint) should be the first step in situation, when exist necessity to increase production. There are described principles and stages of the production system improvement, which are based on the mentioned above theory. In the paper, there is demonstrated that the computer simulation is very useful aiding tool for finding constraints and facilitating the analysis of different proposed changes in production systems.

In this article the author considers an attitude of the Russian Orthodox Church towards the theory of evolution beginning with the year of publication of Darwin 'The Evolution of Species' until contemporary times. The orthodox theology relies upon the thought of Greek Fathers of the Church who emphasized a difference between the incomprehensible essence of God and His actions (energies), by which He reveals Himself in the created world. In the light of the above conception the Orthodox Church acknowledges every scientific theory as an reflexion of this revelation, if only it doesn't trespass its relevant boundaries. Thus, the Russian Orthodox Church has never condemned the evolution theory itself, although some of her theologians have been criticizing some of its aspects. In the last part the author presents contemporary polemics between orthodox evolutionists and creationists. He also suggests some insight into their arguments exposing their limitations. The Assayer of Galileo Galilei is a classic of Italian literature. This is not only because of its formal qualities - in fact The Assayer belongs to the most important current of Italian literature, which aims at drawing the map of what people know and what people do not know (I. Calvino). The Assayer was written in the context of the discussion on comets, and responds, paragraph by paragraph, to the Libra astronomica ac philosophica firmed by Lotario Sarsi (the pen-name of Orazio Grassi). Many authors have commented this book, so important for the methodology of modern science, and Galileo's rhetoric was always indicated as one of the most significant components of this 'opera'. From the formal (i.e. rhetorical) point of view The Assayer is an example of the judicial, defensive speech. Nevertheless, in the book one can notice the presence of the epideictic speech, to which belongs the famous tale/apologue of sound. In this essay a rhetorical and narratological analysis of the apologue in question is proposed. Different interpretations of the tale are discussed, and the special attention is paid to the argument attributed to the pope Urban VIII. The tale seems to be the founding narrative of the way in which the scientist confronts himself with the nature - the point which A. Banfi expressed in his conception of copernican model of man.

Opis:

The subject of this article is a debate which took place in the community of teachers and educators over the period 1918–1939. Its topic related to the function and role of textbooks in the educational process. The analysis of the published articles and science books showed the evolution of views and opinions which developed from the extreme rejection of a textbook and the denial of its dominant position in a 19th century school, to a compromise that was reached in the 1930s and reconciled the “vivid teaching” of a teacher with students’ self-study with a textbook. Maturing and changing opinions and views on the issue of a textbook referred to its classification, role, function, contents structure and the language. The debate which took place in the Second Polish Republic did not result in developing the theory of a textbook although it was an important contribution to its shaping.

Opis:

The Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) is a theory from the field of psychology that was developed by Icek Ajzen in 1985 in order to predict and change human behavior. The theory works with three basic inputs concerning the studied behavior of the person. These then lead to an intention to behave in a certain way. Over the years the theory has been successfully applied to research in various fields. By using the method of systematic review, deduction, induction and synthesis, the article looks into the use of the TPB research model in connection with tax law and economics. One of the areas where tax law and economics meet is taxes. Hence the aim of the article is to confirm or disapprove the hypothesis that firstly TPB has been used in connection with taxes over the last ten years. If this hypothesis is confirmed then it is the aim to determine in which areas it has been applied. Secondly to confirm or disapprove the hypothesis that TPB has been used in connection with taxes in all seven world regions as divided by the World Bank. If that hypothesis is correct the aim is to determine how it has been applied in the Czech Republic and with what results.

A comparison of input ideas and data as well as goals of mathematical models used in physics and biology is briefly discussed. The models used in biology and medicine are divided into „static" and „dynamical" ones and typical schemes of their construction and analysis are given. The main part of the paper concerns dynamical models describing the time evolution of modelled systems in the form of differential eąuations, Some examples are treated in a more detailed way with a stress on their analysis by means of the qualitative theory of differential eąuations. The quantitative (in particular, numerical) and the qualitative approaches to the model analysis in biology are discussed and compared. Arguments in favour of the qualitative approach in many biological problems are given.

W artykule podjęta została próba rekonstrukcji teorii uczenia się egzystencjalnego autorstwa Petera Jarvisa. W pierwszej części artykułu przedstawione zostały ogólne uwagi na temat potrzeby teoretyzacji pola badawczego andragogiki, a także informacje na temat wykorzystanej metodologii badań. W drugiej części zaprezentowane zostały dwa ujęcia teorii uczenia się egzystencjalnego wraz z podsumowaniem.
The article attempts to reconstruct the theory of existential learning by Peter Jarvis. The first part of the paper presents the general information on the need to theorise the research field of andragogy as well as on the applied research methodology. The second part presents two approaches to the theory of existential learning and the conclusions.

On Dynamism of Images. Primary Aesthetic Categories in Věra Linhartová’s Concept of Image The aim of this paper is to argue the thesis that the theory of art and literature postulated by Věra Linhartová, a Czech writer, art and literary theorist who has been living in exile in France since 1968, is based on two significant categories – spatiality and movement. While both notions are strictly entwined with each other, it is the movement that plays the role of the key denominator in Linhartová’s theoretical and literary works which is pointed out by the author herself in her essay For an Ontology of Exile (1994). Due to a twofold – expository and comparative – character of the study, it is structured as an open and complementary diptych. First of all, drawing on Linhartová’s interpretative and theoretical essays, the analysis strives to retrace her individual and peculiar vision of image. The exposition of Linhartová’s methodological approach serves as the starting point for the comparison and contrast between her theory and methodological concepts concerning the theory of image – mainly Georges Didi-Huberman’s idea of image. The paper concludes with an opening to further analysis and interpretation of Linhartová’s theoretical and literary texts.

Opis:

The aim of my article is to show that accepting the context principle (CP) almost inevitably leads to a rejection of the project of giving a completely general explanation of linguistic meaning. I will argue that it is difficult to reconcile CP with any version of the project of giving such an explanation of meaning that does not appeal to semantic terms. I will begin with a short characterization of CP. I will outline the reading of CP which I myself embrace. Then I will briefly characterize the difference between the idea of explaining the meanings of linguistic expressions from outside of any language, and that of doing so from inside of a language. Then I will move on to the main point of my article, arguing that it is difficult to render the consequences of CP compatible with the idea of an explanation of meaning external to all linguistic content.

The Polish version of the article was published in Roczniki Humanistyczne 58 (2010), issue 2. The idea of the justice of the authority in the general meaning remains a central topic in Polish political theory. This has resulted in the frequent tackling of this problem, but it has not been reflected in the complexity of the theory. It is even difficult to talk about a theory in the case of the considerations analyzed. They were mostly very superficial mentions of the monarch’s justice, permeated with old-Polish legalism, a legalism reduced to the rule: the king is obliged to observe legal norms and to give priority to the good of those ruled over his own interests. This model determined the deliberations about justice. Most theoreticians could not see the possibility of strengthening the king’s influence on dispensing justice in the country, although there were exceptions to this view and not only among monarchists. Owing to this model in Polish political thought, after the fall of the First Republic of Poland it was easier to accept the idea of justice dispensed by broad bodies representing the community. The model was not even overturned by the instrumental transfer of the idea of natural justice to Poland. It was also not overturned by the doubts expressed by Wybicki about the possibilities of linking justice to the subjects’ happiness and political freedom.

What is music? One of the possible answers for this question is that music establishes a specific form of communication, which finally occurs to mean an encounter. How has this conclusion been created and how to justify it? It all comes from the interdisciplinary encounter of different perspectives of academic research. Setting in a relation, and so referring to each other, sociological and phenomenological methods result in discovering music (musical language and style, piece of music, musical thought and process) that is an effect and means of social communication. When providing this statement with deeper insight, one comes to the conclusion that every social communication has an encounter as its basis. Whereas so called 'philosophy of encounter', or 'of dialogue', which grows from the phenomenological radices makes it clear that it is an encounter of the two persons: a dialogue between 'I' and 'You'. The groundwork of this musical drama, like of a drama of any other kind of communication, is the reciprocity that establishes a specific relation. Alfred Schütz called it: 'relation of mutual tuning'. It is a tuning of thoughts and wills of participants of the encounter. This supplies the relation with an almost alchemical power of metamorphosis, making it possible to transform 'I' and 'You' into 'We'. And so it makes a harmony. Conclusions from new academic disciplines remain therefore close to the old knowledge – for Boethius already saw music as harmony. What is music? There are as many answers as perspectives. How to reach the truth then? There is a need for a meeting (sic!).

In controlling and managing knowledge there is need of a tool that ensures such management. Theories, principles and rules are the right tools for knowledge management (cf. Mkude 2008: 158). There has been so far only one theory known to the present researcher, which is UTAF (Zahariev 2004). This study evaluates the applicability of Universal Theory of Acronym Formation (UTAF) to Bantu languages drawing data from Kiswahili since the UTAF was developed based on European, Asian and Middle East languages[1]and, hence, in real sense, its founder did not include any acronymic data from any African or Bantu languages. The theory was developed in 2004 by Zahariev arguing that, it is the first theory accounting for acronyms and for all human languages. To my knowledge, this claim has never been tested with any of Bantu languages, which this study intends to look after. Testing this theory in Kiswahili, a Bantu language, will stimulate further insightful studies on acronyms in other Bantu languages. [1] European languages involved are English, Spanish, French, German, Finnish, Italian, Hungarian, Romanian, Russian, Bulgarian and Romanian; Middle East languages involved are Hebrew, Arabic and Farsi; Asian languages involved are Chinese and Japanese.

According to the Theory of Constraints by Goldratt system bottlenecks are key to improving productivity and profitability of the entire production system. An important issue in the practical application of this theory is to identify bottlenecks in the system. The aim of this paper is to develop practical steps to identify bottlenecks in the production system characterised by a homogeneous flow. The paper includes a case study which shows six steps that allowing to specify not only the first bottleneck of the system but to develop a comprehensive plan for removing bottlenecks.

Opis:

Oridinary describing and explaining of everyday behavior became an object of systematic psychological study in the late-40s. The results create a picture of folk psychology as a primitive version of scientific psychology, kind of "naive" theory which is rather false. The picture represents folk psychology only as a speculative artefact, but there is also another notion of folk psychology as a basic conceptual schema which organizes experience. The specific scientific approach to folk psychology is described, some arguments against the view of folk psychology as a theory are pointed and the alternative notion of folk psychology is demonstrated in this article.

Yuri Lotman started his research activity in the field of literary theory (widely: theory of culture) as orthodox structuralist at the beginning of the 1970s. The concept of structure has been based on the structural linguistic theories and adopted to develop research on literary works as well as “cultural texts”. The last ones concern the perception of structure not only in terms of the “level of expression”, but also the “level of content” that can be analysed with the use of peculiar procedures. The strict procedures rely on distinguishing the set of “binary oppositions” in the “structure of content” to illustrate the author’s perception of reality and his “model of the world”. Lotman was convinced that ideological and artistic structures are immersed in history. They have a dynamic nature (likewise the culture which was seen as the complicated “semiosphere” with its processes, predictable or unpredictable as well as the innovative “explosion” mechanisms). Therefore, Lotman in his later years moves away from cultural self-models based on “binary oppositions” to “ternary” system. In spite of the evident evolution of his concepts Lotman was always devoted to the doctrine of knowledge and never left the humanistic ideals using them for research purposes. The scientific models and sources of inspiration could be changeable, but pathos and scientific rationality never left him. His structuralism was at its peak with possibility of evolution, infinitely flexible, individual, accidental, unpredictable or even “explosive”, but never was the betrayal of previous ideals.

A relationship between the theoretical terms and the observational ones, called also a perceptual or observational, is essential for scientific research of empirical type, including social sciences and economic sciences. This relationship cannot be clarified in terms of a complete definition but only by a partial definition. This methodological truth is well known since R. Carnap's works. Later on it was developed in methodology of sciences by the Polish logicians: Przełęcki, Poznański and Kamiński. Multivariable techniques are necessary when one wants to define the relationships between variables in economic and social sciences. However, the results obtained in such analysis are often unsatisfactory because the residual variance is too large. Multidimensional scaling proposes quite a different methodological approach for seeking the relationship between the theoretical terms and the observational ones. This paper aims: (1) to show what kind of methodological proposition is multidimensional scaling; (2) to show what are the possible directions of applying multidimensional scaling to social and economic analysis; (3) to define the multidimensional character of decision analysis.
W badaniach naukowych typu empirycznego (do których należą również nauki społeczne i ekonomiczne) istotne znaczenie ma określenie związku pomiędzy terminami teoretycznymi a terminami empirycznymi. Związku tego nie da się ustalić w postaci definicji zupełnych, lecz tylko i wyłącznie przez definicje cząstkowe. Ta prawda znana jest już od czasu prac R. Carnapa, a została utrwalona i rozwinięta w metodologii nauk przez polskich logików: Przełęckiego, Poznańskiego, Kamińskiego. W określaniu związków pomiędzy analizowanymi zmiennymi w naukach społecznych i ekonomicznych konieczne jest stosowanie technik wielozmiennowych. Wyniki uzyskanych analiz nie są jednak zadowalające z uwagi na ich zbyt wielką wariancję resztową. Nieco inne podejście metodologiczne w poszukiwaniu związku między terminami teoretycznymi i empirycznymi proponuje skalowanie wielowymiarowe. Artykuł omawia założenia metodologiczne skalowania wielowymiarowego, teorię danych С. H. Coombsa (1964) jako podstawę logiczną tego skalowania oraz przydatność tej metody w analizie decyzyjnej. Wskazano, iż skalowanie wielowymiarowe może okazać się przydatne w pierwszych etapach pracy badawczej, eksperckiej, analitycznej czy aplikacyjnej, gdy należy usystematyzować zebrane dane i na tej podstawie przystąpić dopiero do formułowania hipotez, sądów, diagnoz, ocen. Istnieje jeszcze jedna możliwość wykorzystania skalowania wielowymiarowego, a jest nią mianowicie integrowanie różnych opinii oraz ekspertyz w przedmiotowej kwestii.

Theory of mind (ToM) refers to the ability to represent the mental states of others. The Executive Function (EF) refers to higher-level cognitive processes encompassing planning, inhibition, coordination, shifting, and coordination of action sequences. Current studies on ToM and EF suggest that these two cognitive abilities might be functionally or anatomically linked. Although the relation between ToM and EF has been widely investigated, the results remain inconclusive particularly when considering the functional architecture of a mature brain system. The present study aims to seek this lacuna with the use of neuropsychological methodology. The pattern of ToM and EF defi cits within patients with brain injury were investigated. We compared the performance of four patients with a set of tasks examining theory of mind abilities and the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) assessing EF functioning. Results yielded a dissociation between ToM and EF, suggesting that in an adults’ brain executive functions are not necessary for inferring the mental states of others.

The article is a literature review in the scope of theory of constraints in manufacturing companies developed by E. Goldratt. Particular emphasis is placed on the economic sphere of such companies as opposed to the literature dedicated to solving production control problem by using DBR technique advocated by developers and active users of theory of constraints. The article aims to show the approach to the presentation of measurements developed by theory of constraints in the context of corporate net profit and return on invested money in productive activities in the real industrial plants. This is called throughput accounting that indicates the effectiveness of money processing in the production system. In addition, literature analysis aims to show the degree of utilization of theory of constraints in scientific environments in the context of efficiency measures in achieving the goal objective of making money or achieving degree of operational expenses savings in production systems.

Scientific discussion on political leadership increasingly takes on the form of interdisciplinary argumentation, in which different research perspectives, models and explanatory conceptual grids overlap. This state of affairs is on the one hand dictated by the contemporary trends in scientific research, especially in the broadly defined social sciences, where the cognitive, explanatory or descriptive relevance is achieved only by taking into account a broader, inter-disciplinary nature of scientific knowledge. In this sense, a thorough, reliable research practice consists primarily in crossing the formal borders of scientific disciplines, where researchers renounce the “complex” of detailed and firm definitions of their own subject of study to turn instead towards integration of knowledge from various, often very different, areas. The above is mainly due to the dispersion of objective scientific knowledge, which is conditioned, among others by: scientific and technical progress, the phenomenon of intertextuality (modern researchers in humanities concentrate their research eff ort on the texts and practices associated with this phenomenon, which means that their primary method in analyses of political phenomena is to fortify the text – specifically, to prepare the scientific text in such a way as to meet the standards of scientific writing and withstand criticism in the absence of the writer); as well as conceptual-theoretical pluralism present in social sciences. On the other hand, it is the result of scientific analysis of the given forms and practices of leadership, where nowadays greater attention is paid to the multi-dimensionality of leadership processes in politics, related to: the multi-level nature of concepts and research (meso, micro and macro-theoretical level analyses) and the need to take into account a large number of variables in the study of leadership (personality and environmental, situational, institutional factors, economic, political or religious variables). The consequence of this state of affairs is the multi-paradigm character of leadership, which in this case means that very often highly different ways of defining and explaining the complex relationship between a particular political leader and followers co-exist within the discipline. In addition, the multiplicity of paradigms of political leadership is a feature demonstrating the interdisciplinary nature of knowledge generated by political science, where various claims, theses, observations or conclusions complement each other, for example those originating in disciplines such as sociology, law, psychology, management sciences and cultural studies.

For nearly twenty years there has been an ongoing debate in international journals concerning the recursiveness of human mental processes. The main instigator of the debate and at the same time the main exponent of the term “recursion” is Noam Chomsky. According to him, recursion is an exclusive property of the syntax of the so-called “internal language of mind” (I-language). This conclusion has been contested by researchers claiming that recursion can also be observed in: communication, theory of mind, the syntax of complementation, or pragmatics. The article presents some arguments in favor of understanding recursion as a common ground of all the above phenomena as long as they are analyzed from a developmental perspective, with the dynamics and sequentiality of the constantly occurring processes and changes taken into account.

W badaniach pamięci cen sprzed lat osoby mają skłonność do przypominania sobie cen jako niższych niż były w istocie. Celem dwóch przeprowadzonych eksperymentów była analiza czynników wpływających na tę tendencyjność. Założono, że zaniżanie wynika z nietrafnej lokalizacji okresu, z którego cena ma być przywołana, oraz z przekonania o ciągłym i znaczącym wzroście cen. Zgodnie z przewidywaniami, tendencja do zaniżania osłabła, gdy badanym podano dodatkowe wskazówki czasowe, i nie wystąpiła w odniesieniu do produktu uważanego za taniejący. Uzyskane wyniki są spójne z asocjacyjną teorią pamięci cen Kempa (1999), zasadą specyficzności kodowania (Tulving, Thompson, 1973) oraz ujęciami pamięci podkreślającymi rolę prywatnych teorii zmiany w przypominaniu (Ross, 1989).
Several studies have indicated that people tend to underestimate prices from recent years. Two experiments were conducted to analyze factors that are responsible for the systematic bias. It has been assumed that the tendency results from misremembering the time of the price as well as general beliefs about stable and significant price increases. As expected, the tendency was diminished when participants were provided with temporal cues and did not emerge for the product that was considered to become cheaper. The results accord well with the associative theory of memory for prices (Kemp, 1999), the encoding specificity principle (Tulving & Thompson, 1973), as well as retrieval conceptualizations in which implicit theories of change are stressed (Ross, 1989).

Today the theory of evolution is under attack from the point of view of Intelligent Design (ID), which remains not only intellectual position but a political movement too. In some interpretations ID is a continuation of the Creationism; in others ID is coherent with the scientific background. According to W. A. Dembski ID is best characterized by three things: 'a scientific research program that investigates the effects of intelligent causes; an intellectual movement that challenges Darwinism and its naturalistic legacy; and a way of understanding divine action'. Taking account of this situation it is extremely important to reinforce the dialogue between true science and theology. God of the New Testament remains the source of the innovation and from this perspective neither chance in nature excludes God, nor destiny in nature requires God. These and other reasons lead one to accept the position of Cardinal J. H. Newman: 'I believe in design because I believe in God, not in a God because I see design'. Zwrócona zostaje uwaga, iż swoiste dla konstruktywizmu idee sięgają kultury starożytnej Grecji i wiążą się z postacią i działalnością Sokratesa, według którego cała wiedza o świecie tkwi już w samym człowieku i wymaga tylko „wydobycia na światło dzienne”. Przypomnienie jawi się zatem jako warunek uczenia się. W dalszych fragmentach tekstu mowa jest o kondycji współczesnego uniwersytetu i o próbach jego odnowienia w duchu konstruktywistycznego modelu kształcenia.
The article is about philosophical point of view on constructivism as a theory of education. Constructivism, as a theory of education, is a part of pedagogical meaning of human cognition. The main idea of constructivism comes from the old Greek philosophy, particularly from Socrates and his philosophical thought concerning human knowledge of the world. The following parts of the article describe the concepts of teaching in modern universities, as well as the attempts of introducing constructivism as a spirit of education.

The paper presents stability analysis of an elastic-plastic sandwich open conical shell of a circular cross section under combined external load in the form of lateral pressure, longitudinal forces, and shear. The shell consists of two load-carrying faces made of an isotropic, compressible work-hardening material, and they are of different thicknesses and made of different material properties; the core material is of a soft type and it resists transversal forces only. It is also assumed that the shell can be deformed into plastic range before buckling. The flexural, stiffness of the faces is taken into account, the Kirchhoff-Love hypotheses hold for the faces, and the active deformation processes are considered. The constitutive relations used in the analysis are those of the incremental Prandtl-Reuss plastic flow theory associated with the Huber-Mises yield condition. The virtual work principle is the basis to obtain the governing stability equations and the Ritz method is used to derive differential equations of the considered problem. An iterative computer algorithm was elaborated to analyse the shells both in the elastic or elastic-plastic prebuckling state of stress.
W pracy przedstawiono analizę stateczności sprężysto-plastycznej otwartej powłoki stożkowej pod wpływem złożonego obciążenia w postaci siły podłużnej, ciśnienia poprzecznego i sił tnących.Powłoka składa się z dwóch warstw nośnych wykonanych z różnych materiałów wykazujących umocnienie i mających różną grubość. Warstwa wypełniająca jest typu lekkiego i zakłada się, że przenosi wyłącznie siły ścinające. Zakłada się również, że pod wpływem sił zewnętrznych powłoka może przejść częściowo lub całkowicie w stan plastyczny. Uwzględnia się sztywność zginania warstw nośnych, ważność hipotez Kirchhoffa-Lova i przyjmuje się koncepcję wzrastającego obciążenia Shanleya. Analizę oparto na teorii plastycznego płynięcia Prandtla- Reussa stowarzyszonej z warunkiem uplastycznienia Hubera-Misesa. Podstawowe rozwiązania stateczności wyprowadzono z zasady prac wirtualnych, a do ich rozwiązania wykorzystano metodę Ritza. Dlanalizy i obliczeń numerycznych opracowano specjalny algorytm iteracyjny, który umozliwia obliczenia stateczności dla powłok częściowo lub całkowicie uplastycznionych, a nawet dla powłok sprężystych.

In the face of challenges faced by today’s managers, such as unreliability of processes conducted within the company, low quality of materials, too long time of fulfilling the customer orders and missing the deadlines of their implementation, the role of dynamic parameters of the warehousing as the source of competitive advantage of a modern enterprise is growing. The aim of the study is to identify and analyze the factors determining the effective implementation of the warehousing in the Distribution Center. In the research there has been adopted the following hypothesis: with the increase in the number of customer orders, which is characterized by an increasingly smaller number of assortment items, the importance of managing constraints limiting the material flow within the warehousing is increasing. The above-mentioned hypothesis is verified in accordance with the test procedure including literature research and a case study. The research results show that the Theory of Constraints is an excellent tool supporting the transformation of the warehouse management method. With the help of the Theory of Constraints it is possible to determine precisely the places in the material flow, where the adaptation actions undertaken bring down the greatest effects.

Opis:

The article addresses the issue of one of the parts of rhetoric – memory (memoria) in relation to fine arts (beaux-arts), a term invented by Charles Batteux. In the classical understanding of the rhetorical discourse, memoria is a set of rules allowing the speaker to remember his speech and then to deliver it in the best possible way. In terms of aesthetics and art, the mentioned term takes on many new meanings, to the extent that Diderot’s Encyclopedia does not use it at all. In order to explain the role of memory as a creative process, the French theoreticians of the Age of Enlightenment (Batteux, Dubos, Voltaire) use many other terms, which only shows the complexity of the term memoria. The aim of the article is to show the adaptation of the rhetorical term to the area of poetics and theory of art, and to present how this rhetorical concept becomes one of the foundations of the fine arts.

The issue of immigrants’ place in Western societies is still vital, and it is considered from various theoretical and axiological positions. The article attempts to look at these issues through the eyes of a classic of European philosophy, which is Plato. In ancient Greece, foreigners were approached rather with superiority; Greeks believed that the world is divided into them and barbarians. The same is true of Plato, who proposes many rules for treating „aliens” in his theory of the ideal state. These principles are based on the assumption that citizens and noncitizens (foreigners and slaves) cannot be treated equally in every respect.

Opis:

Presentation of the current state and development tendencies of Jewish urban settlement in Israel against the innovation diffusion theory. Analysis of the growth tempo of the number of cities in Israel allows to claim that urban Jewish settlement network develops in accordance with the innovation diffusion model. Assuming that the theory fits the urban settlement development pattern on the surveyed territories, the directions taken by the impulses sent by innovation sources have been determined based on the corridor settlement development theory. The hypothesis has been verified against the factors influencing spatial development directions of the Jewish urban settlement using a dynamic (synchronic-comparative) diffusion process simulation model, built with the Monte Carlo method. The conducted analyses and procedures verifying the model distribution of Jewish settlement in Israeli cities in 1948, 1967 and 1992 allowed to conclude that the highest stochastic concordance between the model accounting for the innovation diffusion theory elements, and the real distribution of Jewish settlement cities holds for 1948 and 1967. According to the diffusion innovation theory, these years correspond to the colonisation stage. The model diversifies from reality for late 1967, when network densification process was coming to an end and city competition stage was starting. Despite statistical validity of the hypotheses, the results show that besides the analysed factors influencing the development of Jewish urban settlement, other variables, not accounted for in the model, are also significantly influential.

Autorzy starają się uchwycić ową dynamikę, zrozumieć determinujące ją czynniki, a także związane z tym przemiany w obrębie pola literackiego. Ramę metodologiczną tekstu stanowi kategoria teorii pól wypracowana przez Pierre’a Bourdieu.

Artykuł przedstawia i analizuje pewną teorię wartości i ich roli w interpretacji prawnej. W artykule teoria ta została nazwana „składnikową” teorią wartości. Zgodnie z tą teorią wartości w prawie tworzą struktury oparte na ocenach globalnych – kompleksowych sądach aksjologicznych uwzględniających wszystkie istotne w danym przypadku wartości i stopnie ich realizacji. Podstawowym twierdzeniem teorii jest twierdzenie o izomorfii między globalną oceną a treścią normy prawnej. „Składnikowa” teoria wartości stanowi podstawę normatywnego modelu interpretacji. Zgodnie z tym modelem interpretator powinien zrekonstruować ocenę globalną i wybrać jeden możliwy wynik interpretacji – jedną normę postępowania – która będzie najbardziej spójna z tą oceną. Aby zrekonstruować wspomnianą ocenę globalną interpretator powinien uwzględnić tekst prawny, orzecznictwo i doktrynę, materiały legislacyjne i domniemanie interpretacyjne. Artykuł rekonstruuje filozoficzne założenia wspomnianej teorii i modelu. Artykuł wskazuje, że podstawową wartością wskazanego modelu normatywnego jest intersubiektywność interpretacji prawnej jako element praworządności. W artykule wskazano również, że opisana teoria i model są oparte na pozytywizmie prawniczym, ale mają również znaczące powiązania z hermeneutyką prawniczą, Dworkina teorią prawa oraz argumentacyjnymi ujęciami prawa. Ponadto, opisana teoria wydaje się również zakładać słabą współmierność wartości.
The article presents and analyses a certain theory of values and their role in legal interpretation. The article calls it a ‘componential’ theory of values. According to the theory, values in law create structures based on global assessments: comprehensive axiological judgements that consider all the relevant values and degrees of their realization. The basic theorem of the theory is the theorem on isomorphy between the global assessment and the content of the legal norm. This ‘componential’ theory is the basis of the normative model of legal interpretation. According to this model, the interpreter should reconstruct the global assessment and choose the one possible result of interpretation – the one norm of conduct – which will be the most consistent with this judgement. In order to reconstruct the aforementioned global assessment, the interpreter should consider the legal text, case law and legal literature, legislative materials and interpretative presumption. The article reconstructs the philosophical presumptions behind the aforementioned theory and model. The article points out that the fundamental value behind the normative model is the intersubjectivity of legal interpretation as an element of the rule of law. The article also indicates that the theory and model described above are based on legal positivism, but with significant connections with legal hermeneutics, Dworkin’s theory of law, and argumentative approaches to law. In addition, the theory seems to presume weak commensurability of values.

This paper shows some key aspects and main theses of the so-called “privative” theory of art founded on philosophical realism. For the sake of contrast, idealism is discussed and its theories of art: “eidetic” (rationalism) and “manic”-expressive (irrationalism). The presentation of the two traditions is crowned with a thesis according to which the realistic theory of art is universal and cognitively neutral. The tradition of idealism, for that matter, does not explain art, but projects its vision and is entangled in a debate between so-called essentialism and anti-essentialism, the debate that cannot be solved.

Opis:

The article focuses on legitimation and limitation factors of Enlightenment’s punishment theories. The author divides the conceptions of the most important punishment theorists of XVIII century into two groups: the first includes deterrent theories of Cesare Beccaria and Jeremy Bentham, the second amounts to retribution theories of Adam Smith and Immanuel Kant. Arguing that the paradigm of the limitation and legitimation factors of punishment needs to play a key role in the modern theory of punishment, the article shows that the Enlightenment discourse between deterrent and retribution theories delivers many important arguments for the modern practice of lawmaking and law-enforcement in the criminal law sphere.

Opis:

How do people read popular literature? Is it possible to connect reading popular literature with category of aesthetic experience (what kind?), or – eventually – what kind of theory could successfully describe this relation? All those questions create a context of the analysis of the book Poetyka doświadczenia (The Poetics of Experience) by Ryszard Nycz. Its author postulates that literature should be understood as a form of the enunciation of experience. He circumscribes here an experience as a specific kind of two-way interaction between readers and their cultural environment, society or nature. It seems that a wide definition, which includes – for example – testimonies of community memory and private, idiosyncratic expressions – describes popular literature, too. However, the author of the article, precisely focusing on the motifs in Nycz’s theory, which directly or indirectly relate to popular literature, doubts its ability to read popular culture. He argues that Nycz’s formula, in fact, is based on modernist conception of high literature with its sacralisation, which eliminates understanding aesthetic experience as a form of pleasure or ludic involvement.

In the article I analyse different types of reading Henryk Sienkiewicz’s various historical characters at school. The reading of Sienkiewicz’s works is frequently too general and schematic, therefore I suggest an attempt to read this writer with the use of poststructural theories. In this text I am interested in ways of using modern narratology (I appeal to Hayden White) to the analysis of the narration in „Krzyżacy”.
