    This reflection will focus on a corpus of testimonies collected in Metz a few months after the terrorist attacks on November 13, 2015 in France. We will discuss how the media narratives of these attacks build an internalized representation of a national event among speakers who live 350 km away from the site of these attacks. It emerges a balance between cohesive momentum and local withdrawal, in particular through the involvement and the emotion of citizens. We will show that the distance Lorraine/Paris and its suburbs appears in a polarizing or unifying apprehension. Through the prism of the media consulted, an articulation occurs between projective collective identities and frozen identities of the past.

    For the prisoners of the concentration camps winter with its seasonal attributes as the icy cold or snow is more than a meteorogical phenomenon. The arrival of winter not only announces the annihilation of the prisonners, but also and perhaps above all their dashing and the unspeakable suffering to come out. In this paper we wish to study in the light of such authors as Robert Antelme, Charlotte Delbo, Primo Levi, David Rousset and Jorge Semprún how the hard weather conditions are able to redraw the space and the prisoners’Horizon of despair.

    Sanktuarium Matki Bożej Bolesnej w Skrzatuszu od początków swego istnienia słynie z łask udzielanych przez wstawiennictwo Maryi. Od początków jego istnienia, tj. od XVI wieku, gromadzone są liczne świadectwa uzdrowień. Władze kościelne już w XVII wieku powołały komisję teologiczną, której prace doprowadziły do uznania ich cudownego charakteru. Czy również współcześnie, korzystając z kryteriów wypracowanych przez teologię fundamentalną, możemy mówić o cudach uzdrowienia dokonujących się w Skrzatuszu? Historia i współczesność tego miejsca przekonują, że można w tym wypadku mówić o fama signorum (sława znaków), tj. o powszechnym przekonaniu, że w sposób wyjątkowy Bóg udziela tutaj swoich łask. Do uznania przez władze Kościoła współcześnie odnotowanych uzdrowień potrzebna byłaby jednak lepiej gromadzona dokumentacja i weryfikacja medyczna oraz utworzenie komisji teologicznej.
    The Sanctuary of Dolorous Mother of God in Skrzatusz has been famous from its beginnings of many graces given thanks to the intercession of Mary. And from its beginning in the 16th century there have been gathered testimonies of healings. The Church already in the 17th century established a theological commission, which workings allowed to recognize their miraculous character. Could we also nowadays, using the criteria worked out by the fundamental theology, recognize miraculous healings which took place in Skrzatusz? The history and the present of that place can encourage as to talk of fama signorum (the fame of signs), which means a common conviction of special graces of God provided in that place. However, contemporary healings to be recognized by the authorities of the Church need to be better documented and medically verified, and also there need to be a theological commission constituted.

    Over the period directly following the Second World War, continuity and discontinuity were closely interwoven in the Walloon literature. From one hand, esthetic models from Interwar period were still present and no novel concepts appeared in the writings of Walloon authors. From the other, however, a large number of new State-run institutions were inaugurated. The hardships suffered during the war, seen mainly as an instance of disruption, are abundantly described in literary works, especially in testimonies. It is in this context that Arthur Haulot, Belgian poet and novelist, made prisoner and taken to Dachau, created his literary poignant output. His writings are marked by harsh experiences undergone in camps.

    Opowiadania oświęcimskie (Auschwitz stories) by Maria Zarębińska-Broniewska were first published in a book version in 1948. All the texts included in the book, however, had been written earlier. The first ones were first released in a daily newspaper „Polska Zbrojna” („Armed Poland”) in early June 1945, just a few days after the author’s return from a concentration camp. They were one of the first accounts which concerned women concentration camps. The book which was published later included nine out of eleven short stories written by Zarębińska. The manuscript of the synopsis of the book was also saved. However, a very ambitious project of creating tens of short stories was not completed due to the author’s death. This article is a description of individual editions of Auschwitz stories in the years 1948, 1960 and 1971, which become better in form, but move away from the original project which was hidden in the handwritten notes.

    The Act of 11th March 2016 changed the Art.233 C.C. A new mitigated type of false testimony was introduced (when a wrong doer does his/her act because od threat of criminal responsibility) and involuntary type of false expert testimony. The punishment for the basic type was raised. The article presents critical view about the change. It deals also with some comparatistic aspects.
    Ustawą z dnia 11 marca 2016 r. zostały wprowadzone zmiany do art. 233 k.k. Dodano typ uprzywilejowany przestępstwa składania fałszywych zeznań, gdy sprawca czyni to z obawy przed grożącą mu odpowiedzialnością karną, oraz typ nieumyślnego sporządzenia fałszywej opinii przez biegłego, eksperta lub tłumacza. Podniesiono również karę za typ podstawowy. Artykuł przedstawia stanowisko krytyczne wobec tych zmian. Prezentuje również uwagi o charakterze prawnoporównawczym.

    The topic for discussion of this thesis is Ad Quirinum, the second tome of st. Cyprian’s work, the bishop of Carthagina (210–258) which can be thought of as a remarkable biblical catechism. This book, composed of thirty Christological thesis together with corresponding biblical citations, is dedicated to “the mystery of Christ” (sacramentum Christi) understood as concise presentation of salvation economy where Christ is its centre and the interpretative key for the Bible. This image is that interesting because it is the only pre- Nicean Christology compendium of this type, which directly introduces us to theological thought preceding a very difficult for Christianity trinitian controversy.The main focus is on the issues of presented by biblical testimonia, secondly on the biblical basis of Christological catechesis as to consider three aspects of sacramentum Christi, i.e. Christ’s work expressed in inluminator and salvator titles, the power of the sign of cross and ecclesiological titles: Christus sponsus conceived with ecclesia sponsa.

    The aim of the article is to present the image of the care of infectiously ill in the light of the canonization process of St. Elizabeth of Hungary (1207-1231). The material under discussion includes testimonies made by the saint's spiritual director Conrad of Marburg and her four handmaids. The accounts made by direct observers of the duchess' life emphasize the variety of forms of her involvement in the care of lepers and those suffering from diseases that cause similar symptoms.

    During the Holocaust, the largest Sephardi community in the world located in Saloniki was almost completely destroyed. Despite their limited number in comparison with that of Ashkenazi Jews, the Salonikan Jews, initially deported to Auschwitz Birkenau and Bergen Belsen, went through all the hardest experiences and were sent to many camps in occupied Poland, and in Germany. This article explores, using archival documents and the testimonies, the geographical directions of their deportations. It also analyses historical coordinates and the Salonikan Jews’ characteristics which affected their destinations and the itinerary with which they were forced to cope.

    The article is devoted to the analysis of testimonies, accounts, memoirs, ego-documents by concentration camp prisoners of Auschwitz, Majdanek, Stutthof, and Gross-Rosen. Thesource material kept in the said KLs’ archives contains a multitude of individual histories of survivors of the genocide, either described in detail or concisely noted down. What the authorfocuses on is the variety of those testimonies to suffering and tragedy of people incarcerated in concentration camps. At the same time, she observes that for the former prisoners, decades after leaving the camps, the Shoah and hell are synonymous with genocide. The most common terms used by them to describe genocide are: mass extermination, the Holocaust, Annihilation, hell, the Shoah, hideous violence, total annihilation – both physical and moral.

    The aim of this paper is to present the question of human nature in a hermetic approach based on the source texts of Asclepius and Corpus Hermeticum. As the reference point for a research on hermetic anthropology serves one of the hermetic fragments found in Lactantius’ Divinae institutiones (i.e. Div. inst. 7.13.3), who focused on a characteristic feature of every human being: their dual nature – both divine and hylic. The analysis of Div. inst. 7.13.3 is preceded by a short study, based on the anthology by M.D. Litwa, of the range of influence of hermetic texts on literature from antiquity to the Middle Ages.

    Od czerwca do września 2018 r., jedna z gminnych bibliotek publicznych na wschodzie Polski, realizowała projekt dokumentacyjny poświęcony krzyżom i kapliczkom przydrożnym. Informacje na temat tych małych form architektury sakralnej były gromadzone dzięki przekazom świadków historii. Następnie opublikowano album, w którym zamieszczono zdjęcia obiektów, opatrzone krótkimi opisami, powstałymi na bazie wspomnień fundatorów i przedstawicieli lokalnej społeczności. W artykule, na przykładzie właśnie tego projektu, przedstawiono wybrane problemy badań nad historią lokalną na podstawie przekazów świadków. Wykazano zarówno zalety takich działań (aktywizacja lokalnych społeczności, wzbudzanie zainteresowania wiedzą o przeszłości, wzbudzanie dialogu społecznego), jak i niebezpieczeństw, które mogą się z tym wiązać (nadużycia, zawłaszczanie opowieści).
    Between June and September 2018, one of the local public libraries in eastern Poland implemented a project documenting roadside crosses and chapels. Information on these small forms of sacral architecture were gathered thanks to the testimonies of witnesses. Next, a book containing photographs of the objects accompanied by brief descriptions based on the recollections of the founders and the representatives of the local community was published. Using the example of this project, this article presents selected problems related to local history using the accounts of witnesses. Both the benefits of these activities (activization of the local community, increasing interest in the past, and increasing social dialogue) as well as the possible dangers (abuses and the expropriation of accounts) were noted.

    The article systematically presents the development of natural family planning methods, in Poland and throughout the world, and describes particular actions of people in Poland that contributed to establishment of pastoral family counseling and marriage and family therapy. Certain amount of attention is given to activities of Maria Dorota Kwapisz, the first Diocesan Instructor of family counseling in the Diocese of Sandomierz, who substantially influenced the promotion of natural family planning methods, especially a temperature record. On the basis of letters by married couples to Dorota Kwapisz in the years between 1976 – 1978, it was concluded that natural family planning influences matrimonial bond and family bond in a significant manner. It has been confirmed by numerous statements given by the spouses that, as an effect of natural family planning, their marital love deepened and they experienced a new perception of intercourse and procreation.
    Artykuł w sposób systematyczny ukazuje rozwój metod naturalnego planowania rodziny na świecie i w Polsce, prezentuje niektóre działania osób na terenie polskim, które przyczyniły się do powstania duszpasterstwa rodzin oraz poradnictwa małżeńsko-rodzinnego. Podkreśla działalność pierwszej Instruktorki Diecezjalnej poradnictwa rodzinnego Diecezji sandomierskiej – Marii Doroty Kwapisz i jej wpływ na propagowanie naturalnych metod regulacji poczęć – przede wszystkim metody termicznej. Na podstawie listów małżonków piszących do Doroty Kwapisz w latach 1976-1978 wywnioskowano, iż wpływ NPR na rozwój więzi małżeńskiej i rodzinnej jest znaczący. Potwierdzają to liczne wypowiedzi małżonków, wskazujące na pogłębienie miłości małżeńskiej oraz nowe spojrzenie na współżycie małżeńskie i dziedzinę prokreacji.

    Holokaust, dokonany przez nazistów w czasie II wojny światowej na prawie sześciu milionach Żydów, odcisnął wyraźne piętno na powojennej rzeczywistości. Wydarzenie to spowodowało ogromną pustkę zauważalną na wielu płaszczyznach, m.in. demograficznej, społecznej, kulturowej i architektonicznej. Pamięć o Holokauście, żywa wśród ocalałych, była próbą wypełnienia tej pustki. W niniejszym artykule omówiono dwa główne problemy: pamięć i świadectwa ocalonych, które zostały już dogłębnie zbadane. Pojęcia te są obecne w dyskursie teoretycznym i publicznym. Zamiast całościowej prezentacji pamięci o Holokauście i roli świadectwa w przedstawianiu Holokaustu lub próby zdefiniowania tych wyrażeń, postanowiłem zająć się trzema aspektami. W kręgu moich zainteresowań znajduje się, po pierwsze, podejście historiografii Holokaustu do świadectw ocalałych. Po drugie, badam relację między świadectwami a pamięcią o Holokauście. Artykuł kończy się wreszcie próbą przedstawienia problemu pamięci o Holokauście w odniesieniu do świadectw byłych więźniów obozu koncentracyjnego na Majdanku.
    The Holocaust, carried out by the Nazi during the second world war on almost six million Jews, has left its distinct mark on the post-war reality. This event has resulted in great emptiness, noticeable on many levels, e.g. demographic, social, cultural and architectural. The memory of the Holocaust, vivid among the survivors, was an effort to fill that void. This paper discusses two major problems: the memory and the testimonies of survivors, both of which have already been thoroughly explored. These terms are present in theoretical and public discourse. Instead of comprehensive presentation of the memory of the Holocaust and the role of testimony in representing the Holocaust or attempting to define the expressions in question, I have chosen to delve into three aspects. What is in the scope of my interest is, firstly, the approach of the historiography of the Holocaust to the testimonies of survivors. Secondly, I am investigating the relation between the testimonies and the memory of the Holocaust. Finally, the paper concludes in an attempt to present the problem of the memory of the Holocaust in relation to the testimonies of former prisoners of Concentration Camp at Majdanek.

    Doświadczenie lagrowe i łagrowe znane jest głównie i omawiane w polskiej szkole na podstawie narracji męskich (T. Borowski, G. Herling-Grudziński). Artykuł oparty jest na długo niedostrzeganych świadectwach kobiecych, które stanowią obszerny i konieczny do uwzględnienia materiał o wysokiej wartości źródłowo-informacyjnej i literackiej. Autorka rozważa jeden z elementów kobiecego doświadczenia obozowego, jakim jest odczuwanie czasu w stanie uwięzienia: zamknięcia w ograniczonej i pilnie strzeżonej przestrzeni niemieckiego obozu koncentracyjnego, sowieckiego więzienia oraz łagru położonego na bezkresach rosyjskiej Północy. Zastanawia się nad jednostkowym i wspólnotowym charakterem powyższych doświadczeń i ich literackiej reprezentacji, sytuując je w świetle refleksji K. Jaspersa, J. Leociaka oraz psychiatrów zajmujących się poobozową traumą.
    The Lager and Gulag experience is mainly known and discussed in the Polish school on the basis of male narratives (T. Borowski, G. Herling-Grudzinski). The article is based on long-overlooked female testimonies, which constitute extensive and necessary to take into account material of high source-informational as well as literary value. The author considers one element of a women’s camp experience, which is the sensation of time in a state of imprisonment: confinement in the confined and closely guarded space of a German concentration camp, a Soviet prison and a gulag located in the wilderness of the Russian North. She reflects on the individual and communal nature of the above experiences and their literary representation, situating them in light of the reflections of K. Jaspers, J. Leociak and psychiatrists dealing with post-camp trauma.

    Opis:
    The Hoover Institution Library and Archives at Stanford University has become an international hub for research and documentation. With more than a million volumes and 6,000 archival collections on war, revolution, and peace, it serves as one of the biggest knowledge repository worldwide. The holdings contain the most extensive and comprehensive documentation related to modern Polish history outside of Poland. Among them are rich and unique collections of primary diplomatic, philanthropic, memoiristic, visual, and other sources. The article outlines the most valuable sources and their collections on the trajectories of Polish Jewish refugees during World II. The very brief presentation of the up-to-date unexplored sources indicates that the growing research on Polish and Polish Jewish war refugees still has the potential to be expanded.

    Rozpatrzono zbiór tekstów projektu badawczo-tłumaczeniowego Grinkiewicza „O szkole”, który miał aktywną fazę w latach 2014-2019. Źródłami 9 tekstów są: 2 – archiwum „Rosyjskiego Kościoła Alaski” w Bibliotece Kongresu USA, 3 – broszura N. Russela, 4 – gazety San Francisco; notatka N. Grinkiewicza „O szkole” jest uzupełniona, potwierdzając przedstawione w niej fakty, przez 2 relacje samego doktora Russela (w tym o historii powstania notatki), 3 części dedykowane uczniowi szkoły pochodzenia „białorusko-tlingickiego” N. Sawczenko (listy od jego ojca Demiana), 2 publikacje prasowe ujawniające niejednoznaczną rolę Grinkiewicza. Oczywistymi przyczynami „zmiany stanowiska” tego psalmisty, później członka Konsystorza Kościelnego Alaski w odniesieniu do problemów szkoły kościelnej były przestrzeganie rutynowych zasad i procedur, oficjalne podporządkowanie i chęć utrzymania pozycji. Dymisja protojereja – drugiej najważniejszej postaci eparchii Aleutów i Alaski – kojarzy nam się z ogłoszeniem jego notatki przez rewolucjonistów.
    The text corpus of the Grinkevich Research and Translation Project About the School, which had an active phase in 2014-2019, is considered. The sources of 9 texts are: 2 – the Alaskan Russian Church archive in the Library of Congress, 3 – N. Russel’s brochure, 4 – San Francisco newspapers; the note On the School by N. Grinkevich is supplemented, confirming the facts reported in it, by 2 testimonies of Dr. Russel himself (including the history of the creation of the note), 3 parts dedicated to the school student of Belarusian-Tlingit origin N. Savchenko (letters from his father Demian), 2 newspaper publications revealing Grinkevich’s ambiguous role. The obvious reason for the change in public position of this psalm reader, later a member of the Ecclesiastical Consistory of Alaska in relation to the problems of the church school was the inertial adherence to routine rules and procedures, official subordination and the desire to maintain position, but it was the promulgation of his note by the revolutionaries that probably led to his dismissal, already as an archpriest, from the Diocese of the Aleutians and Alaska.
    Рассматривается корпус текстов Гринкевичского исследовательского и переводческого проекта «О школе», который имел активную фазу в 2014-2019 гг. Источниками 9 текстов служат: 2 – архив «Аляскинской русской церкви» в Библиотеке Конгресса США, 3 – брошюра Н. Русселя, 4 – сан-францисские газеты; заметку Н. Гринкевича «О школе» дополняют, подтверждая сообщенные в ней факты, 2 свидетельства самого доктора Русселя (в т. ч. об истории создания заметки), 3 части, посвященные ученику школы «белорусско-тлинкитского» происхождения Н. Савченко (письма его отца Демьяна), 2 газетные публикации, раскрывающие неоднозначную роль Гринкевича. Очевидными причинами «изменения позиции» этого псаломщика, позже члена Аляскинского духовного правления по отношению к проблемам церковной школы были следование рутинным правилам и процедурам, должностное подчинение и стремление сохранить положение. Увольнение протоиерея – второй по важности фигуры в Алеутской и Аляскинской епархии – мы связываем с обнародованием революционерами его заметки.

    Opis:
    Barbara Wachowicz, in a two-volume oral tale of a four-volume edition of The Faithful River of Scouting, quoted six prayers - testimonies of an extraordinary trust in God of the novels’ characters in their difficult moments while dealing with death. Their origin is unique for Poland, just after the January Uprising, when the participants of the uprising were deported to Siberia. Some of the prayers were created during the Second World War. Those written down by Barbara Wachowicz ‘Rising the Soul up to God’ confirm deep religiosity of those praying and great commitment to the country matters. They present the hardest fight- to stay loyal and human at the inhuman time. Three prayers, presented in the books, are addressed to God, three to Mary. The one who prays is a participant of the January Uprising and his spiritual heirs - Jan Romocki’s grandson alias Bonaventura, a lieutenant of Armia Krajowa, a poet, Marta Fedorowicz - a nurse of 34 Regiment of 9th Divison of AK, Krzysz¬tof Kamil Baczynski - a poet, a cadet, a soldier of AK. There is also a prayer of a mother- Jadwiga Romocka, who lost her sons in the Warsaw Uprising. According to John Paul II, Poles regarded homeland as a common good and great responsibility. The prayers analysed above indicate that Poles always had the courage to defend their homeland with a great sacrifice. The love to the country was expressed in prayers of the characters and it was always paramount.
