Opis:
Zidentyfikowano dwie grupy wymiarów: związane z różnorodnością członków zespołu oraz związane z różnorodnością zadań zespołu, a następnie przyporządkowano wykorzystywane w literaturze wymiary do poszczególnych grup.
The article describes the problem of the diversity of human teams. In the first part it indicates that this is an important element of research, related to the functioning and effectiveness of human teams. The concept of human teams diversity is defined and it is indicated that there are differences in the results of research on this phenomenon. On this basis, it was concluded that adequate scheme of dimensions that describes the diversity of human teams is needed for the proper analysis. In the second part of the article, the dimensions from existing literature are analyzed. On this basis, the scheme allowing their arrangement is proposed. Two groups of dimensions are identified: those associated with a diversity of team members and team tasks. Moreover, dimensions used in the literature were assigned to individual groups.

Issues on knowledge management and virtual teams are in the last years among relatively popular topics in management literature. They are discussed more or less independently of each other, although some researchers closely combine the two areas. Due to the growing importance of these phenomena, both in theory and in practice, this approach seems to be deeply justified and even necessary. This article aims to juxtapose the challenges of knowledge management and knowledge workers with those of virtual teams and puts forward solutions facing these challenges. The article summarizes the results of research on virtual teams and the characteristics of the knowledge management process, which allows for the presentation of recommendations regarding the knowledge sharing in virtual teams.

Opis:
Purpose – We conceptualized the novel phenomenon of COVID-induced virtual teams and its implications and provided researchers with the required information on how to conduct a phenomenon-based study for conceptualizing novel phenomena in relevant ways. Design/methodology/approach – This article stems from phenomenon-based and, thus, theory-building and grounded qualitative research in the German industrial sector. We conducted 47 problem-centered interviews in two phases (February–July 2021 and February–July 2022) to understand how team members and team leaders experienced COVID-induced virtual teamwork and its subsequent developments. Findings – Empirically, we found COVID-induced virtual teams to be characterized by a high relevance of shaping positive team dynamics via steering internal moderators; crisis is a novel external moderator and transformation becomes the key output factor to be leveraged. Work-from-home leads to specific configuration needs and interrelations between work-from-home and on-site introduce additional dynamics. Methodologically, the phenomenon-based approach is found to be highly suitable for studying the effects of such novel phenomena. Research limitations/implications – This article is explorative. Thus, we advocate further research on related novel phenomena, such as post-COVID-hybrid and work-from-home teams. A model of how to encourage positive dynamics in post-COVID-hybrid teams is developed and lays the groundwork for further studies on post-COVID teamwork. Concerning methodology, researchers are provided with information on how to conduct phenomenon-based research on novel phenomena, such as the COVID-induced virtual teams that we studied. Practical implications – Companies receive advice on how to encourage positive dynamics in post-COVID teamwork, e.g. on identifying best practices and resilient individuals. Social implications – In a country such as Germany that faces labor shortages, our insights might facilitate better labor-market integration for those with care-work obligations and international workers. Originality/value – We offer a first conceptualization of a relevant novel phenomenon, namely COVID- induced virtual teams. We exemplify the phenomenon-based approach as a suitable methodology that serves to build relevant theory using active categorization.

The changes we are witnessing have a crucial role in the nature of the global economy. Continuous globalization processes and the blurring of boundaries between countries allow businesses operate in a never seen before scale. One important effect of the increasing integration of the world economy is a rising importance of possibilities to offshore and outsource value-creating activities. In many industries, firms are able to disaggregate their value chains into smaller parts. This process allows for a less path-dependent approach to the firm’s ideal location profile (through offshoring and relocation) and control strategies (through outsourcing). Undoubtedly, offshoring based on information and communication technology now experiences its heyday. The main aim of this article is to show importance of offshoring and foreign direct investments for developing countries such as Poland, Czech Republic, and more generally speaking the Middle Europe and BRIC area. The article explains the concept of offshoring and its prospects, giving examples of companies like Apple, HP, IBM, Credit Suisse, UBS, Irevna, McKinsey & Co., Siemens, Google and Microsoft. Offshoring advantages and disadvantages were highlighted.

Opis:
Purpose: The paper addresses the research problem of the new organizational reality which will include hybrid virtual teams, where both humans and artificial agents will be members and management tasks or leadership roles will be assumed by artificial intelligence. The objectives of the paper are to initially answer 4 research questions: (1) what are the characteristics of virtual teams in the era of intelligent technology, (2) what is the role of technology in changing the human-machine relationship, (3) to what extent can artificial intelligence replace humans in a virtual team, (4) how can team members be replaced by artificial intelligence in a virtual team. Design/methodology/approach: The research method is a literature review and our own empirical research concerning the new organizational reality with hybrid virtual teams consisting of humans as well as artificial agents. The research data was the results of a long-term observation of a virtual team which was conducted in June 2021 in a group of students who worked 36 hours using online management tools in TransistorsHead.com and MS Teams. Findings: The research has shown that virtual teams require different ways of communication and that consequences of working in such a team change the types of tasks, time spent working together as a group and social aspects of cooperation between team members. This experiment has shown that the decision-making process based on artificial entities can fulfill the requirements of virtual teams and that such entities can be considered as teammates or teams (Team As A Software – TAAS). It is also possible also to imitate a human-like manager (Manager As A Software – MAAS) or its higher evolutionary copy, namely a “sophisticated superhuman machine”. Research limitations/implications: The research results presented here are an example of research conducted from 2012 on, by means of online managerial tools, concerning the work of virtual teams and the opportunity to replace a human manager with a robot one. The answers to the research questions can only be applied to the studied group of students and cannot be generalized for all teams. Future research will be conducted with a wider group of respondents. Originality/value: The originality of the presented research results lies in the fact that the data collected during the research represents the real activities undertaken by the manager and his/her team members during the 36-hour work on the task concerned rather than being mere declarations of these activities by the respondents.
Dane badawcze zostały zgromadzone w wyniku długookresowej obserwacji zespołu wirtualnego, która została przeprowadzona w czerwcu 2021 roku wśród grupy studentów pracujących 36 godzin z wykorzystaniem narzędzi zarządzania online w TransistorsHead.com i MS Teams.

Educating multicultural groups is not easy as a teacher has to deal with students from different cultural backgrounds in limited space and time. Still, it is feasible, provided that we are able to create a positive and trusting classroom environment in which all students are made to feel valued, respected and welcome. The one that combats stereotypes and prejudices allows multiple perspectives and ways of thinking and helps students develop a positive self-image. In such a classroom students can develop not only knowledge and skills, but also multicultural awareness, if only they are willing to coexist and cooperate with each other as well as accept and appreciate their varied backgrounds. Some points that I found to be the keys to success in my applied research are: culturally responsive teaching and differentiated instruction taking into account not only cultural diversity but also different learning styles andpreferences. Apart from their flexibility in the area of methodology, a teacher should use a multisensory approach to appeal to different learning styles.

Aim: To investigate the relationships between team characteristics and their impact on cross-functional sourcing team effectiveness in a public procurement environment. Design/research methods: In an embedded single case study, three cross-functional sourcing teams of diverse divisions and departments of the Dutch Province of South Holland are analyzed by means of a comparative analysis. Conclusions/findings: Teams with greater interpersonal cohesiveness showed more personal and open communication and greater informal frequency of within-team communication. Apparently, task work communication has a positive impact on task cohesion, and interpersonal cohesion has a positive impact on interpersonal communication. A stable team with no changes in roles and membership is likely to show strong task cohesion. Office space for regular meetings and dedicated time for team activities contribute to team effectiveness. Originality/value of the article: Making sourcing decisions is a complex process, particularly in cross-functional sourcing teams with divergent views, objectives, and priorities of the various members of different disciplines. Few studies have examined sourcing teams in the public sector. The study is based on the Input-Mediation-Output-Input model which recognizes mediational factors (processes and emergent states) that transform inputs to outputs. The study contributes to current understanding of the nonlinear linkages between process and emergent states of cross-functional teams in the public sector. The results are useful for public organizations to create more effective cross-functional sourcing teams.

The paper presents two kinds of cooperating teams: traditional and virtual, and proposes a new measure of the team virtuality level. Some representative teamwork characteristics, such as team member competencies, team diversity, leadership, and team decision-making are analyzed and compared depending on the degree of virtuality. Moreover, the team climate as one of the team performance measures is also analyzed and compared in virtual and traditional teamwork conditions. The considerations show that the virtuality level is crucial for virtual and face-to-face team comparison, virtual and hybrid team analysis and answering the question how to improve online collaboration processes and performance.

The nature of work in today’s organisations is becoming more and more complex, dynamic, and global. Nowadays, remote work and virtual teams have become a vital component of modern corporate organisations. The goal of the research is to examine some of the main problems that the Georgian public or private sector’s remote employees have faced. The main purpose of the paper is to determine the current remote work situation of the public or private sector employees in Georgia in accordance with the restrictions adopted by the country in order to reduce the threat of the coronavirus spread. In addition, the research seeks to identify and examine the factors that influence employees’ remote work effectiveness and to determine under what conditions remote work and virtual teams can be a worthwhile investment in a public or private organization. Studies have shown that employees doing remote work in Georgia face challenges, such as: increased working time, unfair redistribution of functions and duties, performed work quality control, internet problems, access to the organizational systems, lack of necessary technical inventory, unproductiveness and lack of face-to-face communication. Methodologically, the work is based on the analysis of available literature and the results of the statistical research based on the survey of 187 respondents, a random sample of different Georgian private and public sector employees. Consequently, managers should be aware of modern communication, technology and leadership methods that can be used in effective and efficient way to increase the virtual work quality. The article concludes that both the technological and the organisational approaches need to be addressed in parallel in order to work effectively.

Opis:
Software development team collaboration requires various decisions regarding essential aspects of a project’s progress. General and particular decision-making models are considered, and their main aspects such as team types, problem solving categories, and decision-making ways are analyzed. The research concerns representative groups of IT specialists and their preferences in decision-making are investigated. Four possible cases were tested: hierarchical choice (by leader) team members’ choice (team consensus or voting) and external expert impact. It allows one to show some differences in the behaviors of both traditional and virtual teams.

Opis:
The paper presents the possibility of application of stochastic methods in supporting the selection of project team members. According to research of M. Belbin an effective collaboration of members of the project team requires 8 team roles (describing the soft skills) in its composition, which will enable the occurrence of the synergy effect. For the purpose of the reasearch, the original software was developed, which uses stochastic methods in the process of assembling teams that meet these criteria. The paper presents the results of experiments based on anonymized surveys conducted among students of different faculties. Teams obtained thorough conducted simulations fulfilled the criterion of completeness of team roles. It was pointed out that the use of stochastic methods in supporting the process of selection of employees in project teams may contribute to improving the efficiency of resource allocation through the appropriate assignation of roles and responsibilities, for example, to avoid a situation where a qualified professional would be attached to the team, wherein his potential would be wasted.

Opis:

Opis:
The main purpose of this paper is to determine which barriers are significant for prosumers and global team employees, and in turn what can discourage them from knowledge sharing. The main assumption was that prosumers and employees can share knowledge seamlessly, but that very often they are reluctant to do so. It seems to be a challenge for businesses to know which barriers hinder prosumers and employees in sharing knowledge. To find the answer to the main and specific research questions, as well as to present a complete picture of knowledge sharing barriers from the employee and prosumer perspectives, we combined two research methods in our study – qualitative and quantitative. The research process embraced a survey among prosumers and interviews with global team employees. The contribution of this paper is twofold: (1) a knowledge sharing barriers analysis, and (2) a conceptual framework development which presents the common barriers for knowledge sharing amongst prosumers and employees of global teams, to fulfil the research gap extant in the literature.

Knowledge of the tools that enable efficient cooperation with the students turns out to be invaluable for remote education. In mathematics education it is of great importance whether the tools are helpful both for us and our students. To answer the question “How to teach mathematics with the use of modern technologies” we will tell you about the tools used by us in remote teaching at Lodz University of Technology. We will describe our work with Microsoft OneNote application and Click Meeting platform. We will show how well used tools can facilitate work of the teacher in the times of distance learning. You will be able to observe our methods on live examples. We will also focus on general good practices and highlight the ones that we have recognized as the most efficient. We promote handwriting with the usage of online tools, and sharing notes from classes with students. We share our knowledge and an experience gained in the time of remote education. In our opinion it is crucial in distance mathematics learning.

Opis:
During the pandemic of COVID-19 the work on projects that require team working has changed. The face-to-face meetings, with the physical presence of participants, were moved to virtual space, enforcing the change in the way of project partners’ communication. The aim of the paper is to indicate the risks in the area of transnational project collaboration resulting from replacing face-to-face meetings with virtual mobility, from the skills’ development perspective. The authors of the paper explain the mechanisms of transnational projects and present how the change of communication towards purely virtual mode may affect the development of skills needed in effective project collaboration and transcultural communication. The discussion is based on the review of the available literature on the challenges of global project teams, the instrumental case study combined with the analysis of statistical data on organisations’ participation in European Strategic Partnerships within Erasmus+ Programme and authors’ experience gained through participant observation of transnational meetings conducted in the period of 2018-2020. Project partners’ participation in face-to-face meetings fosters their personal development and contributes to effective transnational collaboration. The great variety of cognitive, personal, social and communicational skills that face-to-face meetings elicit, and thus contribute to the quality of transnational project team collaboration in the multicultural environment depend on physical presence and interaction of partners. Replacing real presence of project partners with their virtual attendance reduces chances for these skills to be developed and thus may negatively influence the quality of the project collaboration. Taking into account the value that the real presence of project partners brings to international partnerships as well as the development of project team members, it is worth considering, as soon as the pandemic situation allows it, returning to planning and organizing face-to-face international partnership meetings.
