We study the relaxation by Young measures of a Dirichlet control problem with pointwise state constraints. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the properness of the relaxation. This condition is expressed in terms of stability properties, for the original control problem, with respect to geometrical perturbations of state constraints.

The ground state structures and magnetic properties of ZrₙNi (n = 1-9) clusters are studied by using first principles calculation. Firstly, we find the ground state configurations of ZrₙNi (n = 1-9) clusters. Secondly, the magic clusters (Zr₂Ni and Zr₇Ni) of ZrₙNi clusters are found by the comparisons of average binding energies, the second-order energy difference and energy gaps between the highest occupied orbital and the lowest unoccupied orbital of the ground state of ZrₙNi clusters. Thirdly, the calculated results show that magnetic moment of ZrₙNi (n = 1-2) clusters is 4 μ_{B}; however, the magnetic moment of ZrₙNi clusters is about 2 μ_{B} for n = 3-9 (exception for n = 7). Finally, it is found that the magnetic moment of ZrₙNi cluster mainly comes from Zr atom and Ni atom is the electron acceptor from the Mulliken population analysis.

The paper presents the results of structural and magnetic properties and thermal stability for a group of functional materials based on Fe61Co10Zr2.5Hf2.5Me2W2B20 (where Me = Mo, Nb, Ni or Y). Samples were obtained in the form of ribbons using melt-spinning method. The X-ray diffraction patterns of investigated samples confirmed their amorphous structure. Based on the analysis of DSC curves characteristic temperatures: glass forming temperature (Tg), crystallization temperature (Tx) and temperature range of the supercooled liquid ΔTx were determined. Small addition of transition metals elements has strong influence on magnetic and thermal parameters of studied materials. The comprehensive studies revealed that in terms of magnetic properties the Ni-addition resulted in highest reduction in coercivity and anisotropy field.

Opis:
Lignin was used to study the mechanical properties and thermal stability of polymers. The lignin was blended with three kinds of polymers, and the addition of lignin was 0.5 wt%. Under the condition of thermal oxidation, the thermal stability of lignin/polymer samples varies with the structure of lignin. The effects of lignin on the mechanical properties and thermal stability of the polymers were investigated by oxidation induction time (OIT), rheological properties, mechanical properties and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results show that the effect of lignin on the thermal properties of polymer samples is 2~3oC. It can be inferred that lignin can effectively improve the interaction between polymer molecular chain segments, and improve the crystallization rate and rigidity to a certain extent, so it can be seen that lignin has good compatibility and thermal stability.

Opis:
The use of natural fibres in fibre-reinforced composites comes with drawbacks. They are highly hydrophilic, leading to high moisture absorption and poor interfacial adhesion in matrix-reinforcement bonds. This affects the fibres’ thermal stability as well as mechanical properties, hence limiting their wider application. This paper reviewed different ways in which natural fibres have been treated to improve hydrophobicity, reinforcement-matrix interfacial adhesion and thermal stability. It will investigate. among others, treatments like alkali, acetylation, bleaching, silane, benzoylation and plasma, which have been found to improve fibre hydrophobicity. The literature reviewed showed that these methods work to improve mechanical, chemical, and morphological properties of natural fibres by removing the amorphous surface, thus allowing for more efficient load transfer on the fibre-matrix surface. Studies in the literature found alkali treatment to be the most common surface modification treatment due to its simplicity and effectiveness. However, plasma treatment has emerged due to its lower processing time and chemical consumption. A comparative analysis of other improved properties was also investigated.

The use of plastic wastes in the forest product industry as an additive material is an alternative solution for reducing environmental pollution. In this study, different types of plastic wastes, polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polypropylene (PP), and polystyrene (PS), which have various characteristics and considerable potential as reinforcing materials for wood fibers, were added to high-density fiberboard (HDF) in different mixture ratios (25/75, 50/50, 75/25) with commercial fibers. Changes in some properties of the boards, including density, water absorption, thickness swelling, modulus of elasticity (MOE), bending strength (MOR), and internal bond strength, were determined. It was found that water absorption and thickness swelling ratios were lower in the boards with plastic waste additive than in the control samples. Moreover, the mechanical properties of the samples using plastic waste (except PET) were nearly as good as those of the control samples. The results indicate that PP and PS wastes can be considered for use in the reinforced HDF production process, with different mixture ratios for different usage areas.

The aim of this work was to investigate the influence of isothermal annealing on the amorphous structure stability of the Zr48 Cu36 Al8 Ag8 alloy. A series of continuous heating examinations was performed on the differential scanning calorimeter in order to determine the temperature limits for isothermal annealing series where the time to crystallization was measured. The obtained results were calculated and a time-temperature-transformation diagram was created and discussed. Static compression test as well as microhardness measurements of the as-quenched samples gave a mechanical properties results supplement. The measured properties (σc = 1800 MPa and 614 HV0.05) are comparable to the literature results for this alloy. Fractographic observations with the scanning electron microscope were also performed in order to prove some plasticity observed during the strength tests.

A novel polynitro compound, 2,2’-bis(trinitromethyl)-5,5’-azo- 1,2,3,4-tetrazole, was designed and investigated at the DFT-B3LYP/6-31G(d) level. Its properties, such as electronic structure, IR spectrum, heat of formation, thermodynamic properties and crystal structure, were predicted. This compound is most likely to crystallize in the P21 space group, and the corresponding cell parameters are Z = 2, a = 5.46 Å, b = 9.72 Å, c = 14.05 Å, α = 90°, β = 90°, γ = 90°. In addition, the detonation velocity and pressure were also estimated by using the empirical Kamlet-Jacobs equations, and were predicted to be 8.28 km/s and 31.61 GPa respectively. The oxygen balance of this compound is +13.79%, which indicates that it could serve as an oxidizer. Bond dissociation energy calculations show that the C(13)-N(21)O2 and C(14)-N(30)O2 bonds are the locations of thermal decomposition and that this compounds meets the thermal stability requirements as an exploitable explosive. Keywords: polynitro, electronic structure, thermodynamic properties, crystal structure, detonation performance, stability.

Opis:
Thermal modification is a treatment method used to improve some properties of wood in order to expand its range of usage and extend its lifetime. Although it generally causes a worsening of mechanical properties, some of them can change due especially to lower equilibrium moisture content when compared with untreated wood. Therefore, we wanted to compare some properties of thermally modified and untreated samples having either the same moisture contents or those of the area of use. For this purpose, we tested untreated and thermally modified (at 180° C for 3 hours) yellow poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera) solid wood samples. We investigated density, swelling and shrinkage ratios, and anisotropy of shrinkage as physical properties, and compression and bending strength, modulus of elasticity and impact bending as mechanical properties, according to the relevant ISO standards. The results showed that thermal modification increased the dimensional stability while having a negative impact on the mechanical properties (except modulus of elasticity) at the same moisture content, as indicated in the literature. However, thermally modified samples with moisture content as in the area of use exhibited improved properties (except in the case of impact bending).

Structural, physicochemical and adsorption properties of two natural and one synthetic molecular sieves were investigated by various techniques: X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, low-temperature nitrogen adsorption and inverse gas chromatography. The influence of these properties on the ability to adsorb two model fragrances: p-cymene and menthol was studied. The free enthalpy, entropy and Gibbs free energy of adsorption of fragrance molecules on the surface of zeolite and zeolite-like materials were estimated by using inverse gas chromatography. Also, the influence of temperature on the stability of solid-fragrance compound systems as well as the release of the adsorbed fragrance compounds was studied. The obtained results exhibit that both porosity and chemical composition of molecular sieves influence the size and strength of adsorption of fragrance compounds. The study indicated different release characteristics for p-cymene and menthol.

The mechanical behavior and the change of retained austenite of nanocrystalline Fe-Ni alloy have been investigated by considering the effect of various Ni addition amount. The nanocrystalline Fe-Ni alloy samples were rapidly fabricated by spark plasma sintering (SPS). The SPS is a well-known effective sintering process with an extremely short densification time not only to reach a theoretical density value but also to prevent a grain growth, which could result in a nanocrystalline structures. The effect of Ni addition on the compressive stress-strain behavior was analyzed. The variation of the volume fraction of retained austenite due to deformation was quantitatively measured by means of x-ray diffraction and microscope analyses. The strain-induced martensite transformation was observed in Fe-Ni alloy. The different amount of Ni influenced the rate of the strain-induced martensite transformation kinetics and resulted in the change of the work hardening during the compressive deformation.

The emulsion explosive is one of the important industrial explosives. The structural stability of the water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion matrix of an emulsion ex plosive determines the reliability of its initiation, safety and detonation performance. It is known that the emulsifier is one of the most important factors affecting W/O structural stability. In this paper, several emulsifiers with the functionalities of imide, amide, ester, salt, and sorbin monooleate (SMO) were selected. From the perspective of the rheological properties, the effects of the emulsifier structure and its functionality on the viscosity and visco-elastic properties of the emulsion matrix were analyzed and researched. The results show that emulsifiers with imide/amide functionality and their corresponding emulsion matrixes have higher viscosity at normal temperatures and better fluidity at high temperatures than those of the others. The linear visco-elastic region (LVR) for emulsion matrixes containing these emulsifiers is wider than that of the others. The effect of a change in ambient temperature on the viscosity for a complex emulsifier is small. The emulsion matrix containing the emulsifier named LZ2727B is the most stable, followed by the emulsifier named LZ2727D. This conclusion is consistent with the conclusions from tension tests and from high and low temperature cycling experiments. From the emulsifiers studied in this paper, LZ2727B and LZ2727D emulsifiers are very suitable for manufacturing packaged emulsion explosives. On the other hand emulsifiers based on SMO functionalities, named LZ2731 and LZ2735, are the best choices for manufacturing bulk emulsion explosives.

Opis:
With advances in material technology come challenges to productivity. New materials are, in fact, more difficult to machine with regards to tool wear and especially machine tool stability. This paper proposes to extend the stability limits of the machining system by enhancing the structures damping capability. The aim of the research work presented here is to introduce a unified concept based on the distribution of damping within the machining system components exploiting the dynamic properties of the existing joints. To maintain a high level of static stiffness, it was chosen to adapt hydrostatic clamping systems to the tools. Damping is designed in the structure via high damping interfaces (HDI), intentionally introduced interfaces where the damping ratio is enhanced by introduction of viscoelastic polymer metal composites between the two metallic surfaces composing the interface. In this paper HDI are introduced at two joints, between tool and turret and between turret and lathe. The tests show that the designed-in damping is effective and allows extending the stability limits of the machining system. The implementation of designed-in damping allows the end user to select the most suitable parameters in terms of productivity avoiding the hassle of tuning the devices, having to acquire a deep knowledge in structural dynamics or having to use additional control systems. In addition to this, the enhanced machine tool system becomes less sensitive to stability issues provoked by difficult-to-machine materials or even fluctuations of the work material properties that might occur in everyday production processes.

Opis:
The study described herein was carried out on a technical scale on a water supply system servicing approximately 350 thousand inhabitants. The total length of the water mains and distribution pipelines in the area under review approximates 1 744 km and 37 264 water supply connections. The greater part of the water supply area is compact, and a region (a maximum located to the south) is clearly separated from the rest. Because the Waterworks Company, which manages the examined SDW, does not exploit its own intakes and water treatment plants, it has to purchase the water from two external suppliers (D-1 and D-2). The studied area is supplied with water from water mains through 21 points (P1-P21) which, in many cases, are also points of water pressure reduction (reduction stations) or elevation (pumping stations). In 8 of the 21 points of purchase, through appropriate installations, phosphate corrosion inhibitors are dispensed to the water. In an article, the microbiological evaluation of deposits collected from five points in the water distribution system was conducted. The analyzed deposits were located at three different materials: cast iron, plastic, and asbestos cement, which in terms of age ranged from 3 to 40 years. Samples of deposits were collected using the same method for various months during one calendar year. Bacteriological analysis of samples included determination of: total number of mesophilic bacteria (growing at 37°C), psychrophilic (growing at 22°C), coliform, faecal coliform (thermotolerant) or E. coli, fecal streptococci, Clostridium perfingens, bacteria of the Pseudomonas genus, bacteria precipitating iron, anaerobic bacteria sulfate reducing (SRB-initiate corrosion processes), actinomycetes and fungi which are the possible contamination of the soil. Results of microbiological testing showed that the surface of the pipes developed biofilm, which is a significant reservoir of microorganisms, which is a phenomenon often occurring in water distribution systems. The analysis showed a variety of deposits in terms of microbiological, depending on the type of material which they were originally placed on. In the case of sediment samples taken from the plastic pipe, the size of the bacteria grown in the two temperatures was several times higher than in the case of samples taken from the cast iron pipe. In the case of the water sample taken from the plastic, the size of bacteria grown at both temperatures exceeded the limit values for water several times.

The effect of TiC content on the microstructure and mechanical properties of a nanocrystalline Fe-Mn alloy was investigated by XRD analysis, TEM observation, and mechanical tests. A sintered Fe-Mn alloy sample with nano-sized crystallites was obtained using spark plasma sintering. Crystallite size, which is used as a hardening mechanism, was measured by X-ray diffraction peak analysis. It was observed that the addition of TiC influenced the average size of crystallites, resulting in a change in austenite stability. Thus, the volume fraction of austenite at room temperature afterthe sintering process was also modified by the TiC addition. The martensite transformation during cooling was suppressed by adding TiC, which lowered the martensite start temperature. The plastic behavior and the strain-induced martensite kinetics formed during plastic deformation are discussed with compressive stress-strain curves and numerical analysis for the transformation kinetics.
