Opis:
The text presents the process of transformation of the organizational structure of the Węgajty Theatre and the related reformation of the group dynamics and methods of creative work. In the group’s complex organizational history, the turning point was the loss of permanent institutional support in 2011. After twenty-five years of work under the auspices of various cultural institutions in Olsztyn, the Węgajty Theatre was forced to function as a non-governmental organization. The text shows the impact of the grant system on the Theatre's activities and its strategies developed for conducting artistic work. Węgajty's most crucial activity, if the group is considered as a formation project, is the work of the Other Theatre School. The original form of artistic education is combined at the School with a return to socially engaged issues. The text also presents the pros and cons of a social cooperative created at the Węgajty Theatre to stabilize its financial situation.

Opis:
Cultural institutions become more and more open to the implementation of inclusive projects aimed at a large and constantly expanding group of recipients-creators. The potential of amateur creativity has also been noticed in the field of theater activity, and thus the understanding of art as a sphere in which only professional artists have a voice has been surpassed. The idea of a theater devoted to children's imagination was anticipated in Poland by a patron of theatre pedagogy, Jan Dorman. Children's theater, drawing on the natural creativity of a child, the unlimited potential of his imagination and the tendency to play, places in the center of the creative process a child, who is not only a performer or spectator, but a committed author of activities – theatrical events. Playing the theater becomes a space for the child's participation, in which his voice has the driving force. Through art, creating an imaginary world, and thus moving in the world of fiction, the young artist develops skills that are necessary for full participation in real social life. Socially engaged theater is based on the assumption that art can be a common act because it is a dialogical meeting in which everyone can express themselves. Theater provokes both reflection and action, it presents a creative dialogue between man and the world. Art understood in this way transcends its aesthetic function, focusing on the process that its creators go through and the change it causes, which goes far beyond the theatrical event. The Girls' „Theater of Power” is an example of theatrical work in which the participation of girls was at the core of all activities. By following the creative potential and unlimited imagination of children, it became possible to get to know their worlds and learn sensitivity to the environment from them. The girls reflected on the school reality and, using the tools of the theater, created an alternative „School for Children”. As a result of this cooperation, the voices of the participants were manifested in a project of the world which was not only directed at children but also created by children.

Opis:
In this article, the author describes the work of the Argentinian artist, Lola Arias, from the perspective of her interest in individual and collective memory. The frame for this research is the notion of „time machine” compared with Maria Janion’s notion of „archive of existence”. The author situates the work and biography of Lola Arias the director, filmmaker and visual artist within the „archeontology in action”. Also, he describes Arias’ strategy of overlapping reality and fiction to project the new vision of the future. Her performances are juxtaposed with Donna Haraway’s notion of „speculative fabulation” according to whichsmall, individual stories help us to understand complex reality and new modes of perception.

Opis:
The main purpose of the article is to examine the reconstruction method as one of the most important features of Jakub Skrzywanek’s theatrical language. His own model of reconstruction of reality, placed against the background of Rebecca Schneider’s theory of reenactment, appears to be a tool for social intervention. An analysis of Skrzywanek’s performances that use reconstruction (Immoral Stories [Opowieści niemoralne], Spartacus. Love in the Time of Plague [Spartakus. Miłość w czasach zarazy] and Midsummer Night’s Dream directed with Justyna Sobczyk) confirms the thesis of the political nature of reenactment, and shows the evolution of the reconstruction method as well as the various strategies of reality replication employed by the director. The article also attempts to find common features and to chart a certain poetics of reconstruction. This consists of the use of archival documents in the performance, collaboration with groups of experts and specialists, exposing the corporeality of the archives, affective influence, Brecht’s V-effect and framing stage action with media and text indicators. The method of reconstruction, additionally equipped with a strong exposure of metatheatricality and the entanglement of theatre in media negotiations, finds its most perfect development in Skrzywanek’s latest premiere, Crime and Punishment. Due to the crimes of the Russians that we cannot understand [Zbrodnia i kara.

Degenerates! by Michel Provins is a particular work in the repertoire of the French theatre of social protest. Inspired by the medical treatises on cases of “degeneration”, the playwright decides to paint the portraits of selfish and perverse bourgeois who, instead of fulfilling their obligations to society, get bogged down in a life of debauchery. The writer expresses his sincere contempt for morally bankrupt elites who contribute to the degradation of the whole nation. First of all, he castigates politicians who make a career out of the poor, then he denigrates businessmen and bankers who enrich themselves outrageously by speculation, and finally, he attacks the artists and writers who propagate devastating vices for public health. Despite his virulent language, Provins does not think of allying with the anarchists, he wants to stir the consciences in order to regenerate humanity.

The subject of this text is a particular type of an engaged theatre, which the author defines as the theatre of immediate intervention. Referring to opinions of theoreticians, but also critics and theatrical artists, she makes an attempt at establishing its definition. She discusses two most important determinants of this model of theatre: the formula of being up-to-date and the principle of “fast reaction” to current social problems.

The present article aims to analyse the social trauma implicit in the representation of the nonconformist identity formation in Judita Vaiciunaite’s play The Siege (Lithuanian Apsiaustis) directed by Giedrius Mackevicius. The play reflects on the experiences and inner states of characters as they struggle to survive in a seized city, wherein the motif of the seized city alludes to the political situation of Kaunas as a city seized by the totalitarian system. The play was performed by an amateur group in 1971 in the Kaunas Trade Unions Palace of Culture. The study relies on trauma studies by Danute Gailiene for the analysis of Giedrius Mackevicius’ debut experience; also it refers to the semantics of Judita Vaiciunaite’s play The Siege. In the staging of The Siege in 1971, on the contrary, the universal thematic dimension of this drama was emphasized.

Aim. The article is a report from the research conducted in 2017 during the Forum Theatre performance, and it demonstrates the possibilities of using the Forum Theatre of Augusto Boal in activities to prevent exclusion from the peer group of teenage students. The purpose of this article is to signal the possibility of using the idea of Boal in preventing exclusions in the school space. Methods. In order to discuss the problems, the analysis of source material and participant observations were used. Results. At Forum Theatre, young people reveal their worldview and value system by interacting with actors and performing stage activities. The teacher, observing the students actions in the performance, can assess their empathy, sensitivity and interpersonal competence. The teacher gets to know the qualities that affect the student’s mental state at the time of exclusion from the peer group. In the theatrical activity, the personality of the student with his or her predisposition to being a victim or torturer is revealed. Using the example of the analysed spectacle The Cage directed by Jarosław Rebeliński in 2017, it is clearly seen that the Forum Theatre makes it possible to get to know the student, and thus his or her problems in relation with peers. Forum Theatre shows the effects and causes of exclusion while simultaneously signalling to the teacher the symptoms of the problem manifesting themselves in the behaviour of young people. Conclusion. Forum Theatre can be a diagnostic method for teachers in activities preventing the exclusion of a student from a peer group at school. Forum Theatre can be used as a method of working with students at risk of exclusion due to intolerance, lack of acceptance or lack of developed communication skills.

Opis:
The text discusses the phenomenon of theatre in prison. It focuses on the diversity of its forms and its dependence on many contexts: social, cultural, geographical, and primarily political, which sometimes have a destructive impact on the examined phenomenon. On account of its distinct characteristics, prison intensifies the constitutive features of the art of theatre: its ephemeral nature, living presence based on the interpersonal meeting of the actor and the spectator, team work and artistic practice, associated with the transformation of the world in its various dimensions. Because the living conditions are so unfavourable there, prison seems to be a dream field for theatre, the essence of which is to “transgress” reality, distance itself from it, reveal its hidden face and the mechanisms governing it, and thus transform the world and stimulate human development: the actor and the viewer, in several capacities. In the prison context, the artistic aspect of theatre work is linked to its ontological and existential aspect much more clearly than, for example, in the so-called mainstream theatre. The author also proposes introducing the term “theatre created in prison” instead of “prison theatre” and replacing where possible “inmates”, “prisoners” with “actors/actresses”, “creators”, “collaborators from prison”.
