Opis:
Emotional processing and social problem-solving are important for mental well-being. For example, impaired emotional processing is linked with depression and psychosomatic problems. However, little is known about crosscultural differences in emotional processing and social problem-solving and whether these constructs are linked. This study examines whether emotional processing and social problem-solving differs between Western (British) and Eastern European (Polish) cultures. Participants (N = 172) completed questionnaires assessing both constructs. Emotional processing did not differ according to culture, but Polish participants reported more effective social problem-solving abilities than British participants. Poorer emotional processing was also found to relate to poorer social problem-solving. Possible societal reasons for the findings and the implications of the findings for culture and clinical practice are discussed.

Opis:
Mediation is a one of the well-known forms of alternative dispute resolution and is commonly used for solving conflicts in social work. Following introduction, where the mediation is put in social context, authors introduce readers to different approaches to mediation specifically to narrative mediation in comparison with mediation focused on solving problems. These approaches have different theoretical bases, mediation processes and aims and, therefore, their utilization is appropriate in distinct situations and areas of social work. In the conclusion these different approaches are compared to each other. While the narrative mediation is concerned with relationships and belongs to therapeutic style, the problem-solving approach to mediation falls into negotiating style and is concerned with reaching an agreement between parties of the conflict. If there is a need to solve the actual problem, the mediation focused on solving problems seems more fitting. If there is a need to understand and solve relationships between parties of the conflict, then the narrative mediation may be recommended.

Opis:
This study aimed to explore a collaborative problem solving case using social media and an e-collaboration tool, and analyze its educational implications in a qualitative research method. For achieving the research goal, a case study was conducted in a middle school class. Two rounds of one-to-one interviews with a teacher and written interviews with students were conducted. In addition, relevant class resources and the students’ final reports were also collected as data. It was shown that using social media and an e-collaboration tool could encourage students’ scientific inquiries and enhance problem solving skills as well as set up a healthy communication culture among teachers and students.

Opis:
The domestic violence called the family violence is any kind of the deliberate behaviour connected with the taking advantage from the force predomination directed against the family member which violates the family member's rights and results in physical and psychical suffering. The violence is a kind of pathology. Simultaneously, the domestic violence is a crime, but most of its victims are not aware of the fact that this behavior pattern is rooted in their families. They allowed to be abused as well as they permit the child abuse and treat it as normal. The examinations conducted amongst the domestic violence victims show that the victims act unconsciously according to the stereotypes and thought schemes repeated from generation to generation. There are many forms and methods of the violence victims’ assistance, but the efficiency most of all depends on the reaction time of the adequate services and their assistance. Therefore, the construction of the assistance net for the domestic violence victims is so crucial. The net should react in the adequate way as soon as it is possible. There must be the change in the society attitude towards the specialists helping the domestic violence victims as well as the change in the victims attitude. Only then the full success in carrying help to the domestic violence victims will be possible.
