Opis:
Before a young person is placed in a correctional facility, a series of interventions are undertaken towards him or her, which have the potential to stop criminogenic behaviour and break the causal chain leading to crime. In this paper, a qualitative analysis of the biographies of 60 minor offenders was carried out using the case study method while they were in rehabilitation facilities (correctional institutions or minor shelters). The personal documents collected by the rehabilitation institutions contain a large quantity of information (interviews, diagnoses, and expert opinions) about minors against whom several systemic interventions were previously applied in the course of their lives. The results show the large number and variety of interventions made towards minors, which ultimately did not prevent their placement in rehabilitation facilities because they were usually made too late.

Aim. The main aim of the authors of this study is to indicate the problem areas of individuals and the families during the pandemic and post-pandemic situation which occurred in connection with a deteriorating social and societal situation. Methods. Using a literary descriptive and deductive method, the authors identify, indicate and analyze not only epidemiological measures and the possibilities of applying social interventions in the individual and in the family, but also draw attention to state measures taken to manage new conditions of family life. Results. The analysis indicates a broad issue that affects individuals, families, and groups, as well as societal sectors. The authors point to the provision of interventions through social work, which takes into account the basic characteristics of the family. Social intervention therefore becomes an important tool in solving problematic situations of any small or large social group. Conclusions. The pandemic and post-pandemic situation brought about a number of problematic situations that had to be solved dynamically and, in many cases, through crisis intervention. Forms of assistance to individuals and families brought cohesion and unity, but also brought a number of other concerns reflecting the current adverse societal situation into the wider environment.

The reflections presented in this paper are focused on the problem of the conflict that takes places at the point of contact of two cultures during social interventions in the communities of foreigners residing in Poland. That is why three research perspectives have been presented. The first one is an analysis of the legal solutions pertaining to the acquiring of the status of a legal alien. The second aspect of the research is connected with the features of the institutional forms of social support for foreigners. In the further area the indicators of cultural differences of the investigated group have been discussed and it has been attempted to define the potential areas of conflict. The scientific exploration was aimed to specify to what extent cultural differences condition the process of the foreigners’ adaptation to a new socio-cultural reality. Furthermore, an attempt was made to answer the question whether the institutions intended to help foreigners can constitute an area of compromise. For this aim the differences between the levels of expectations represented by the administrative and social services and the foreigners themselves have been shown.

English in India evokes connotations of worldliness, education, class, and power. Although many less socially fortunate groups lack in the English language competence, its presence in the Indian street is increasing, and not only in the context of tourism and marketing. The investigation of the linguistic landscapes of a number of localities in northern India will focus on public service advertisements written in English which convey guidelines for the creation of a healthier Indian society. The study, informed by the rhetoric of social intervention approach, investigates the choice and the frequency of the persuasive rhetorical devices used in the texts. It also discusses which of the three modes of persuasion typically underlie the analysed advertisements, thereby highlighting the preferred approach to tackling local issues and, indirectly, contributing to strengthening the role of English through the positive perception of the messages conveyed.

The study evaluated the effectiveness of the intervention for families raising children with autism aimed to improve the family’s quality of life, strengthen its capacity, and expand rights and opportunities. The experimental intervention was implemented at the Educational and Rehabilitation Center for Children with Autism “Trust” (Lviv, Ukraine). It had one experimental group (30 people) and two control groups (60 people). The effectiveness and duration of the intervention effects were assessed using a before/after study design with the same questionnaire. Findings from the survey evidence the effectiveness of the intervention, in particular, for expanding the family’s capabilities, its capacity, improving relationships in family subsystems, increasing parental competence, and improving well-being. Limitations of the intervention are discussed.

Opis:
In this paper, we will talk about the origin and characteristics of the Pedagogical Missions during the Second Spanish Republic which was founded to help rural teachers with their training and to take progress to the remote areas of the Spanish country. We will appreciate how intellectuals and teachers voluntarily participated in these Missions with a philanthropic and political aim. Then, following Morales Gutierrez’s principles on social innovation, we will state that the Pedagogical Missions were an educational and social innovation in Spain before the Civil War (1936–1939). Finally, we will make a comparison between the different social intervention models in history – Charity, Beneficence, Social Justice, and Social Inclusion – and the Pedagogical Missions social intervention model which shared similar characteristics with all of them.

Finding solution of unemployment and poverty is one of the most important challenges of social policy in the European Union today. Th e existence of a global labor market emphasizes the need for adoption of such measures, which are accepted and implemented in the wider socio-economic units, such as eg. European Union. Th e indicator of longterm unemployment and material hardship in the context of its possible solutions are mainly data on the number and structure of long-term unemployed job seekers who are in material need, the developments in this segment of the labor market and the measures that these applicants to solutions to their social situation may be used. In the Contribution We characterize poverty and unemployment to functionally link the defi nition of social events and existing social interventions. We also focus on legislative conceptualization process aspects of the application of social interventions to solving poverty and unemployment. Due to the emergence of new social problems resulting from weakening pro-integration moods regarding culturally, ethnically, or religiously diverse societies, the Acting in Context by Training the Trainers in Social Empowerment (ACTTE) project was prepared and implemented. The Polish National Agency of Academic Exchange (NAWA) financed the project as part of the International Academic Partnerships program. The project goals were: 1) shaping competencies/skills in the field of DPA (Developing the Power to Act) in organized training participants (NGO employees and academic teachers), 2) developing tools for intervention work based on the concept of Empowerment. Within the training, the research was carried out based on the action research methodology and the use of scaling and uncategorized interview. The article presents the excerpt of the research, which was aimed at determining the changes in the competencies related to the use of the DPA approach in the project’s participants, as well as their subjective understanding of the DPA. The presented research results show the legitimacy of the project implementation by partner institutions, which are universities and non-governmental organizations. The competences and skills acquired by the project participants can be used in academic and environmental work.

Homeless people are one of the most endangered groups of social work. They are multiply marginalized, discriminated in living conditions, financial aid, in the labor market and in supportive relationships. They require crisis intervention due to superimposed problems as a result of which they are in danger of health and life (Olah and coll., 2006). From our experience, we would like to state that there is no way to objectively assess why someone became homeless. Speculation that „it is their fault, they can blame themselves“ and so they must help themselves to get off the streets, we consider very unprofessional. None of the people on the street did not plan to live their lives like this. Those, who has chosen this way of life seemingly freely, responded this way to the uncontrolled living situations such as: divorce, illness (to which belong also addiction), unfavorable social situation and the material need etc. The causes are fairly well described and well known to the general public. Much less are described obstacles to their return to the intact society.

Opis:
Early intervention and  early support are actions aimed at  a child with disturbed development and  their families. The emergence of any developmental disorders in a child is always a stressful situation and demanding changes and taking action to support parents. The resource enabling one to get additional help is the social network of the family. The quality of services depends on the size and category of persons that compose it. It should be borne in mind that focusing solely on the rehabilitation of the child – taking for granted the needs of the remaining family members – may lead over time to the dysfunction of the whole family. Restrictions that appear and result from the child’s disability, create a real threat of marginalising or even exclusion of the family from social life. It is unable to overcome the crisis without any help, therefore the actions of family support networks also play an important role. The main objective of this article centred around the information on the relationship between the size of a support network, the kind of the disorder in children and strategies for coping with stress in parents of children participating in the process of early support or early intervention. The study covered 93 parents. The Map and Questionnaire of Social Support of Zdzisław Bizoń and Inventory to Measure Coping Strategies with Stress – Brief COPE were applied. Analysis of the results showed no significant correlation between the two variables. The applied statistical analysis allowed us to identify the most commonly used strategies to cope with stress by parents and enabled us to characterise the size of the network and the categories of people who create it. The article ends with conclusions concerning the areas of practical actions under early intervention.

In 1981, the French sociologist Alain Touraine (with a group of Polish young sociologists led by the veteran of Polish sociology – Jan Strzelecki), conducted a famous research on the Solidarity Movement with the use of a new and distinct method of investigation called “sociological intervention.” It was the first time that Polish sociologists, who were trained in a specific combination of Marxist and positivist traditions, had experienced this kind of ‘hard’ qualitative methodology. The reactions were mixed and the general approach was rather cautious. Nevertheless, the sociological intervention method has since been used several times by Polish scientists. The aim of this paper is to summarize these experiences.

This study aims to explore and analyse qualitative research on refugee and asylum-seeker interventions for social inclusion that engages a creative, arts-based community approach. Method. The article describes a meta-study towards discovering meta-theory, meta-methods, and meta-findings across articles on the subject. For this purpose, a broad database search was conducted, which resulted in a total of 7 articles after filtering according to the previously defined exclusion criteria. These articles were analysed by two independent researchers and later reviewed by two independent evaluators. Results and conclusion. There was an overarching lack of definitions and distinction of and for the terms refugee, migrant and asylum-seeker. A similar problem could also be found regarding social inclusion and integration which were, at times, used interchangeably. Additionally, the majority of the studies opted for an ethnographic approach despite choosing different methods within the said approach. Concerning the meta findings, three main themes emerged across research: space of expression and confidence; transformation process to agency and citizenship; and exchange and dialogue between the host community and arrivals. These themes were discussed and reflected upon, and limitations were pointed out. Originality. Having identified the lack of refugee and asylum-seeker voices within migration studies, this article sets out to counteract this issue by having included only those articles that provided space for refugee and asylum-seeking individuals to speak up, thereby authentically understanding arts-based social inclusion interventions from a new and neglected angle.
