The education towards the job of a social employee requires the learning of specific knowledge that ensures the interdisciplinary and versatile preparation of a future professional. In this aspect, social projects are of particular importance as due to their multitasking requirements they stimulate student activity, allow for the combination of knowledge with action and activate reflexive behaviour, which allows for the evaluation of the designed activities. The preparation and implementation of projects are related to the necessity to assume a number of roles, creating the opportunity to test oneself in new activities and to determine the degree of self-readiness to do/perform the job. The aim of the article is to highlight the educational values of designing and presenting the structure of social projects realized at the Social Work Unit at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Silesia. The text also points out the difficulties that occur during the specific stages of project work and provides tips in order to avoid such difficulties.

Although community organizing as a method of social work began to develop in Ukraine in the 1990s, but unlike individual and group social work, the attempts to introduce it into the activities of social welfare institutions and non-governmental organizations were unsystematic and not very successful. The aim of the article is to determine the possibilities of Polish experience of community social work implementation in Ukraine, taking into account the ongoing reform of local self-government. The study, the results of which are presented in the article, was designed as a so-called desk research and based on the results of the comparative analysis of Ukrainian and Polish scientific publications, documents, official websites, etc. The historical background of community social work development in Ukraine is outlined, the analysis of Ukrainian legal acts regarding norms and principles on community organizing is conducted. The article provides an overview of Ukrainian concepts and models of community social work. Particular attention is paid to the possibilities of Polish experience’ application, while implementing community organizing into practice of social welfare institutions as well as of NGOs. Possible structural and institutional changes related to the implementation of community organizing in social work practice and its benefits for the revitalization programs were analyzed. Polish experience of establishing a nationwide circle of community social work professionals was described. The author concludes that the challenges and barriers arising before community social work in both countries are quite similar and assumes that it is reasonable to take into account Polish experience, while implementing community organizing in Ukrainian realities.

They also have various needs and huge diversification inside of this age group. They are a very challenging group in the social care system because of tension between higher resources and increasing need of support. The aim of the article is to show how the gerontological social work can be described in the wide context of social work theory. There is also an attempt to define and to show the distinctness of gerontological social work as the tool of acting. The perspective of description is more theoretical than formal.

The notion of a method is not identical with the notion of model of social work, although different models assume different methods of work. Many models of social work have been created. One can mention, for example, the psychosocial model (based on the assumption that the cause of the problems of an individual are unconscious, unrealized conflicts and unfulfilled, subconscious needs; the solution of the problems is sought through an analysis of events and experiences from the past), problemic, structural, model of modification of behaviours; group therapy, resocialization model, crisis model etc. Thus, in the functional model, one puts the emphasis on building the relation with the ward, maximal use of the time given and avoiding diagnostic categories as useless in social work. The problem-oriented model bases on the assumption that problems are an inevitable element of life, their solution is sought through analysing present factors, the main emphasis is put on the ward's involvement in the solving of the problem, the task of the social worker is determining the ward's subjective attitude to the problem and motivating him to action. The structural model is based on the assuption that the individual's problems are the effect of a definite social structure and they do not result from personal neglect, and the basis of help is support for the client and his immediate social environment. The model of behaviour modification, based on psychological behaviourism, assumes that through employing knowledge about the mechanisms of learning one can change attitudes and the way the individual reacts49. It is worth mentioning also models which integrate social work with individuals, groups and communities. An example of such a model is the systemic model, in the frames of which one can differentiate several variants, e. g. ecological, life model, competence model). In the systemic model one emphasizes the improvement of relations between the ward and his or her social environment through seeking a system of social support, rejecting the view that the ward's situation can be improved through actions directed exclusively onto him or her or their environment methods.

The term „social work” for the first time appeared in the USA in 1917 in the name of an institution running charity activity. The previously used name National Conference of Charities and Corrections was replaced with the name National Conference of Social Work. This change was caused by the professionalisation of social care which at the beginning of 20th C ceased to be a kind of social charity and started to be a profession. Presently it is a systematic activity of an all-society dimension, oriented onto giving help to another human being.

The object of social work are both the individuals and social groups (families or more extended communities). Depending on which groups of people require help, social work arouses various requirements which from the point of view of the social workers’ education create the need for specialisation. One can distinguish several specific groups of the clients of social work: children, the old age people (gerontological nursing), ill and disabled individuals and local communities. Special problems and challenges appear when a child is its object. It happens that because in the case of children separating interim help or long-term financial assistance from the pedagogic influence is impossible, and thus from responsibility for charges’ future. Social workers do not bear full responsibility for the state of child’s future, because they share this responsibility with different subjects, it does not mean, however, that they do not bear it at all. One can distinguish two extreme positions among the theoreticians of social work: according to one of them, represented among others by H. Radlińska, social welfare institutions totally take over the responsibility for the child’s future, what is connected with the limitation of freedom, and according to the latter, such a responsibility, in practice, is not possible.

Social work is an occupation, in which, one helps other people for free. The main purpose of this help is to improve the social function of the individual, who because of difficult situation, is unable to improve his/her status on his/her own. Future of the individual depends (partly or completely) on the help offered by the social worker [Praca socjalna, 2002: 14]. The goal of social work is to stop the process of social exclusion (marginalization) by deleting its causes. This way of understanding the term of social work should be distinguished from the term of social help, which helps citizens mainly financially. Sometimes, in practice, it is quite hard to distinguish social work from social help because one of the goals of social help is social, and professional stimulation of people who are socially excluded from the society due to poverty, what in fact, covers with social work.

Therefore it is not only to reduce this system to social assistance. Thus understood, the welfare system is an area of practical activity, intended to produce specific social change.

social dysfunction
Opis:
The concept of social dysfunction refers to a broad spectrum of issues, so in order to explain what is the dysfunction, you should also specify the importance of several other concepts. These include such concepts as "social norm", "need" the "problem", "conflict", "crisis" and "pathology". Let's start with a discussion of the latter notion, since it can be a source of confusion. In the literature, the term "social dysfunction" ("dysfunctionality") and the term "pathology" are in a similar sense, means conduct contrary to current social norms. The term "pathology" appeared for the first time in American literature, where it was defined as "behavior or attitudes inconsistent with generally accepted principles of conduct in a given society and behavior affecting the requirements and prohibitions contained in the provisions of criminal and civil laws." According to this definition, the action is pathological if it violates a social norm or a rule of law. Of the "classic" of the Polish definition should include the definition of A. Podgóreckiego, who pointed out the inconsistency of behavior known as "pathology" of the established in the society "worldoutlook of values." In turn, A. Lipka pathological behaviors in addition to noncompliance with social norms (which will be discussed later) for the distinctive feature of the pathological behavior deemed rejection "values objectively in accordance with the interests of the individual and the general public." This raises the question here, of course, the instances have the authority to decide what in a particular case is, and what is not consistent with the "objective" interests of the individual and the community. In Poland, the notion of pathology is currently used not only in the work in the field of pedagogy and social work theory, but also medicine, criminology, law, sociology, psychology and many other fields. It is also often used in public debate, but in everyday language is characterized by strong negative connotations. In theory and practice of social work outside the ambiguity and negative emotional coloring, the biggest shortcoming of this concept seems to be his very narrow range of meaning. Speaking of pathology, we mean the social status of a "disease" and thus a condition which must be the "treatment" so as not to endanger the rest of society. Meanwhile, in social work, these "pathological" cases constitute only one of many types of problems, not always the most important type in terms of "health" of society as a whole. The tasks of social workers are, after all activities such as making the decision to grant material benefits, care for people with disabilities and helping people in crisis, unemployed, and so the problems are not in ordinary language, nor in the literature is not defined as pathology society.

The aim of the article is to show the essence of conducting evaluation studies as part of social work to counteract domestic violence. The article raises an important issue which is the lack of information within the framework of conducted activities, which is visible on many levels of work with the family in which there is domestic violence. It seems that the Polish system of counteracting domestic violence appears to many practitioners as an area requiring a continuous evaluation process, implemented in such a way that on the local ground it is possible to "diagnose" the difficulties faced by specialists creating a local system of counteracting domestic violence. In the area of diagnosing local difficulties, it seems that too little reflection is devoted to many other important issues. Therefore, can evaluation be a response to the lack of reflection and reliable information?

The purpose of the article is to consider a unit and family experience in confrontation with an oncology disease, showing a high degree of complexity and psych-social functioning marked with a disease. The knowledge on physical, social, emotional, existential-spiritual consequences of the disease is the basis for the ability to assess, to which degree the disturbances affect the well-being of the family and his family. However it is one of the prerequisites which encourages for deepening theoretical bases for the actions for undertaking practical consid-erations with reference to the shape of the aid offer which should be available within the support system for the patients and their families in oncological disease within social work. Among the activities concerning executing care of the patients, being recommended in the oncological tasks of the social workers is the need to accompany the units and the family faced with the disease in obtaining the possibility to function in social roles as most as possible: marital/partner, family, in professional roles. These oncological social workers undertake effective interventions allowing for overcoming the consequences of the crisis caused by the disease and strengthening the resources in the interpersonal relations and the environment of the patient. The professional work oriented to strengthening the families of the oncologically sick persons consti-tutes a special area which may extend the professional identity of the social worker with the activity in the field which is somehow a statutory obligation of the social work, but its use in practice is not a common phenomenon.

The main objectives of social work include improving people’s living conditions and to help meet their basic needs, especially those living in poverty, or are in any way oppressed. Social workers seek to mitigate and eliminate various forms of social injustice, while carrying out their task commonly faces with misunderstanding and often unappreciated. Taking into account this fact and the fact that the concept of an standards in the last few years not only in Slovakia, but the whole world has become a phenomen that “deserves “ our attention, we decided to approach it from the perspective of social work. In this contribution, we will focus on what the standards are, how they arise and also how important they are. We will point out areas of social work in which standards most commonly occur.

This study deals with the current issues of social work mainly in the Czech and European contexts. It shows that the debate on social work crisis finds its roots of the crisis in social policy, and in structural, legislative and financial conditions it creates for social work. The study, therefore, suggests three questions that should be answered primarily by social work both as a practical profession and professional research, to be able to define its own professional interest.

One of the basic tools used in social work in the majority of European countries is the social contract. It is an agreement between the social worker and the individual client (or family) which precisely stipulates mutual obligations, requirements, rights and responsibilities of both sides. The contract is intended to be an effective method of diagnosing client’s problems and to mobilize both sides to more intensive efforts to enable a client to have more personal control. However, in the everyday practice of social work and its legal and institutional context, there are various constraints and barriers that may lead to distortion of the assumptions of a contract. It happens that the contract serves social workers and their clients as an instrument to realize interests and goals different from the intended. In this article, ways to implement the social contract in Poland are suggested, along with conditions and limitations.

The article presents the results of a study conducted among a group of 55 highly experienced Polish social workers on the management of their emotions in contacts with clients. The research was inspired mainly by Arlie Hochschild’s concept of emotional labour. Using a qualitative approach allowed us to incorporate a wider range of the spontaneity and reflexivity expressed by the subjects of the study. The paper helps illustrate that, similarly to other helping professions, social workers deploy significant emotional labour and use a range of emotional strategies to affect their clients’ actions or behaviour. The effectiveness of such labour depends on experience, individual characteristics and the formal and informal support they have access to. We conclude that with experience such workers not only control their emotions better, but first and foremost become more effective in using their emotions in such a way as to encourage or discourage certain actions and behaviours among their clients. The findings indicate that more attention should be placed on the role of emotions and emotional labour used by social workers in their daily practice. Incorporation of elements of the sociology of emotions might be particularly useful in this regard.

In this paper we will present some predictions and proposals on the development of social pedagogy in the near future. Social pedagogy is a discipline both theoretical and practical, so if we reflect on the future, these two aspects of it should be discussed separately. Of course, the development of theory in disciplines such as social pedagogy makes sense only under the condition that these theories can be realized in practice, it must be remembered that the possibility of impact theory into practice (social policy and social work) depends on a number of factors that pedagogy social has no effect. In the context of the discussion about the future of social pedagogy distinction between theory and practical needs and possibilities of its realization it seems reasonable, since it is possible, in which intensive development of the theory is not accompanied by equally intense activity in the field of practice. On the other hand, the distinction between social pedagogy in Poland and the world seems to be justified because of the significant differences in both the real possibilities of practical implementation of the theoretical solutions, as well as the scale and the nature of the social problems in Poland and in the more economically developed from Polish. For example, while the most important problem that in the near future will have to face the countries of Western Europe, seems to be the problem of immigration, in Poland the most important issue is undoubtedly an aging population. So we can risk saying that in the near future of social pedagogy in Poland (and in other post-communist countries) and in the countries of the so-called. the old European Union will develop largely independently.

In Germany, as in Poland, the genesis of care for the weak dates back to the Middle Ages. Insurance laws adopted in 1883 – 1884 and in 1889 (Bismarck empire) still work as the basis of insurance, and the model created by Bismarck was accepted by other countries and has been the basis of a social state. The legislative amendments carried out in the 90s in German insurance system reinforced the development of social sphere together with the development of social work. The article deals with the practical dimension of social work, which has been accompanied by the dynamic and multilateral development of theory. The variety and ambiguity of terms in the area of social work is also one of the presented problems. It also looks at German theorists of social work and their concepts at the turn of the 20th and 21st century.

It had one experimental group (30 people) and two control groups (60 people). The effectiveness and duration of the intervention effects were assessed using a before/after study design with the same questionnaire. Findings from the survey evidence the effectiveness of the intervention, in particular, for expanding the family’s capabilities, its capacity, improving relationships in family subsystems, increasing parental competence, and improving well-being. Limitations of the intervention are discussed.

Moreover, this primal idea, for which above mentioned voluntary service was set up, will be retained. One cannot also exclude such a situation when voluntary service makes up an alternative form of social activity for many people. Because for them the political activity which was discredited many times is not possible to accept. The more often a political scene will be the arena which will be losing credibility and confidence, the more often and wider will develop nongovernmental patterns of social activity including voluntary ones at every level of the organization of society. Social structures have not worked out any different alternative and it is necessary to suppose that they will never work it out. The lack of social activity, and at the same time a lack of development of voluntary service as an alternative for strongly formalised solutions is threatened with self-destruction of social structures, and in the consequence dismantling of democratic systems as a result of a decline in their efficiency.

In recent decades, a substantial demographic changes in the structure of Polish society. According to demographic projections, the number of people of retirement age will increase by 2050. Globally and 25% in Europe, up to 51% of the entire population. These changes can also be observed in Poland, where declining number of births and marriages, and a shift in the average age of reproduction. In 2002 he was reached level 14% of people of retirement age in the total population of the country which is considered the limit for the completion of the aging population. GUS expected number of people of retirement age will increase from 6, 5 million in 2010 to 9, 6 million in 2035, which would represent 26, 7% of the total population. The aging process has a multifaceted dimension; medical, psychological, social, ethical and deserves special attention in the era of political and socio-economic. From the point of view of gerontopedagogiki, old age is a period of life in which man can live actively pursuing their interests, participate in social activities, educate and serve their knowledge and experience. Already Helena Radlińska (creator of special education in Poland 1935.) And Aleksander Kaminski emphasized the need to take action care centers for the elderly. They believed that social pedagogy must take issues such as the implementation of elderly people to new behaviors and accept old age, and the launch facilities intended for the elderly, where they could spend their free time actively.

Although the history of social work shows many examples of relations between volunteer work and professional social work – contemporary volunteer work cannot be identified with social work. However, the activities of many students of social studies in associations and non-governmental organizations are very important for their personal and professional development, creating their competences and gaining experiences for the future professional work. Reflections concerning the volunteer work and its role in the field of social work education are important and may be treated as an element of discussion concerning education in connection with democracy and social/public activity in general. The article includes theoretical analysis of the selected aspects of volunteer work and professional social work, discovering the possible similarities and differences between those forms of social activity and emphasizing the role of volunteer work in shaping the professional competences within the field of social work.

There are two main subjects raised in the article, meaning the development of the occupation of a social worker and the pursuit to make the work for the ones in need professional. The latter has its genesis in the actions taken in the period of annexation. Trials to nd an efficient method to help people in dealing with life crisis have not been fully achieved yet although lasting over a century. Therefore, there is a question whether and in what extend may the practice of the following decades be used to build the occupation of a social worker, which will gain a status of a profession.

Opis:
The article analyzes the relationship between social pedagogy, social policy and the system of care and social assistance. The term "system of care and social assistance" should be understood here as widely as possible. It is therefore not only of direct support and assistance in the form of social work, social care homes, etc., but with all the services provided by the state forms of support, ranging from different types of activation in areas of poverty and exclusion, by solving the problems of addiction, to the organization of assistance to the sick or old. Therefore it is not only to reduce this system to social assistance . Thus understood, the welfare system is an area of practical activity, intended to produce specific social change.

Opis:
The article represents a part of a master thesis research project carried out at Klaipeda university. Concepts of biological, emotional, and procedural parenting obligations were utilised to analyse the issues of social work support for adoptive families. Procedural and emotional components were found to raise the biggest challenges. Although fostering and adoption mean raising a child deprived of parental care and usually needing additional help, social work support is mostly oriented towards fostering families. Therefore, social work support for adoptive parents while rather intensive in preparing the necessary documentation, initial training and matching of a family and a child, basically stops after the child arrives in a family. After that support remains purely voluntary and occasional. Research results show that the adoption process needs to be improved by revising training programmes, enhancing inter-institutional communication, and enriching the information provided for adoptive parents. The current procedures are seen as inefficient by social workers and adoptive parents.

Social work with a group, as one of three classic methods of social work, is being taught in the course of academic studies in the “Social work” BA programme. In comparison to the other two social work methods (social work with an individual case and community social work), the social group method seems to be least recognized in training and praxis of social work in Poland. The aim of the article is to systemize and to deepen the knowledge on the social work with a group. The first part of the text is dedicated to the review of chosen theoretical and methodological foundations of social work with a group. I refer to “the power of group” and the significance of the group process; I present a small group as a resource and as a tool of social work; I point to the diversity of groups used in the context of social work, and provide a catalogue of personal features, knowledge, skills and tasks of a professional social group worker. The second part of the article is based on my experience as a teacher of methods of social work at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology of the University of Łódź, Poland. I describe training in social work with a group as a shared group experience. In the end I reflect on the influence of Covid-19 pandemic on changes in teaching group work and the group work itself in the light of “work online”.

In this article I will analyze the problems associated with the diagnosis of social pedagogy. It should be noted, however, that in the social pedagogy diagnostic methods used in other pedagogical sub-disciplines, because there is no strict distinction between pedagogical diagnostics as such and the diagnosis in social pedagogy. Contrary to appearances, the formulation of a correct definition of pedagogical diagnosis is quite problematic. Such definition should on the one hand take into account the specificity of pedagogical diagnosis, i.e. to allow to distinguish pedagogical diagnosis of other diagnoses (medical, technical, etc.), on the other hand be sufficiently narrow so that other types of assessments formulated in the practice of pedagogy are not subject into it.
