The decisive source of air pollution emissions in ports is the berthed ships. This is primarily caused by the work of ship’s autonomous generator sets. One way of reducing the air pollution emissions in ports is the supply of ships from electricity inland system. The main problem connected with the power connection of ships to the inland network is caused by different values of levels and frequencies of voltages in these networks (in various countries) in relation to different values of levels and frequencies of voltages present in the ship’s network. It is also important that the source power can range from a few hundred kW up to several MW. In order to realize a universal „Shore to Ship” system that allows the connection of ships to the electricity inland network, the international standardization is necessary. This article presents the current recommendations, standards and regulations for the design of „Shore to Ship” systems.

Analysis of hydrometeorological data and of hypsometric measurements of the Hel Peninsula shore from the years 1989-1997 allowed determination of statistical relationships between averaged hydrometeorological parameters and morphological parameters of the shore. The significant relationship found between mean wind speed and sea level allowed an evaluation of their influence on the Peninsula 's shore. It is shown that long-term sealevel changes result in much stronger reaction of the shore than changes of wind speed. Quantitative relationships between the changes of hydrometeorological factors and the progress of erosion of dune coasts are presented on the example of the Hl Peninsula.

MTV is a TV channel that has had a revolutionary impact on the development of pop culture. This station, which initially broadcast only videoclips, under the influence of the development of the Internet, especially YouTube, was forced to change its profile. Nowadays MTV is dominated by reality shows, some of which are very controversial. In Poland, “Warsaw Shore: Ekipa z Warszawy” – local version of the American “Jersey Shore” format, is very popular. That TV show presents a specific woman’s image, which has been described as a “liberated woman”. Analysing 12 seasons of that show, seven main characteristics that make up the image were identified.

‘Shore to ship’ system – ships’ power supply from the local electrical substations – is one of the effective ways to limit the negative impact of the ships lying in ports on the environment. Energy infrastructure of the port installation necessary to provide ships with power supply has to be designed so that different types of ships can use it. The important issue concerning ‘shore to ship’ system is the quality of power supply. This can be achieved via sustaining continuity of power supply while switching from the ships’ electrical network over to the national grid. In this article the author presents the way of synchronizing the national grid with the ships’ electrical network during ship’s lying in port. Such synchronization would allow for uninterruptible work of the ship’s electrical devices.
Jednym ze skutecznych sposobów ograniczenia negatywnego wpływu statków cumujących w portach na środowisko jest zastosowanie systemu „shore to ship” – dostawy energii elektrycznej na statki z lokalnych stacji elektroenergetycznych. Infrastruktura energetyczna instalacji portowej niezbędna do zasilania statków musi być zaprojektowana tak, aby możliwa była obsługa różnych typów statków. Ważnym zagadnieniem przy stosowaniu systemu „shore to ship” jest jakość dostaw energii elektrycznej poprzez miedzy innymi zapewnienie ciągłości zasilania przy przełączaniu z elektrycznego zasilania autonomicznego statku na zasilanie z elektrycznej sieci lądowej. W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono sposób synchronizacji elektroenergetycznej sieci lądowej z siecią okrętową podczas postoju statku w porcie zapewniającą bezprzerwową prace okrętowych urządzeń elektrycznych.

The following paper presents the problem of archaeological sites located on cliffs on the Southern Baltic Sea shore. This article discusses issues related to a necessity of solving the problem of this kind of research, related to methodological, as well as documentation and preservation standards based on preliminary results of the project conducted in Bagicz area (Ustronie Morskie commune). In this region four new structures were noted on a cliff surface. The key to understand the situation of archaeological sites located on a cliff areas is the knowledge of the processes related to their formation and activity. All of them have a huge impact for the state of preservation of the cliff, however they have various intensity level depending on the part of the Baltic Coast.

Paper discussed unique microwave systems used in offshore industry for position referencing. First purpose built system entered market in 1972 and was partly associated with Dutch Delta Works. This system after several modifications is still in use as Artemis Mk6.Currently, two other, more advanced microwave reference systems are in use. Their introduction eliminated some disadvantages of earlier equipment. Today, reliable microwave reference systems are extensively used in offshore industry for high risk operations in difficult meteorological conditions.
Artykuł analizuje unikalne systemy mikrofalowe, używane w przemyśle offshorowym w charakterze systemów odniesienia pozycji. Pierwszy, zbudowany specjalnie w tym celu system, pojawił się na rynku w 1972 roku i był częściowo związany z Planem Delta. System ten, po wielu modyfikacjach, wciąż pozostaje w użytku jako Artemis Mk6. Obecnie, dwa inne, bardziej zaawansowane technicznie systemy są w eksploatacji. Wprowadzenie ich pozwoliło na eliminację pewnych niedostatków poprzedniego urządzenia. Obecnie, niezawodne mikrofalowe systemy odniesienia pozycji są powszechnie używane przez przemysł offshorowy w operacjach obarczonych wysokim ryzykiem i w trudnych warunkach meteorologicznych.

The possibility of building efficient and universal systems for the use of electricity land network by ships berthed in the port appeared along with the development of power electronic technologies. The need to connect ships to the land network is primarily related to ecological reasons. The choice of the appropriate topology by the investor (usually port authorities) is mainly connected with ensuring high quality of electricity provided to the ship and local conditions. The Late Glacial shoreline database compiled for Estonia covers 149 sites on the proglacial lakes A1 (Voose) and A2 (Kemba). Eighty-two sites were used in further simulations. Point kriging interpolation with a linear trend approach was applied to create interpolated surfaces of water levels for checking the spatial correctness of data. The sites with altitudes visually not matching with sites nearby were discarded, as well as those with residuals of more than 1 mand 0.7 mrespectively. The final surfaces were analysed geostatistically by simulating isobases, direction of tilting, and shoreline gradient. The simulated isobases suggest that both proglacial lakes A1 and A2 were connected with the glacial lake in the Lake Peipsi basin. The interpolated surface aspect shows that the direction of tilting varies between 320° and 340°. The surface gradient of lake A1 is highest in the NW and SE parts of the study area (50 and 25 cm km-1, respectively), and that of lake A2 is highest in the NWand SE parts (40 and 20 cm km-1, respectively). Using the modelling data, the shoreline correlation between the two proglacial lakes has been revised.

Cretaceous limestones from the basement of the Neogene Mut Basin are strongly sculptured by borings, including mainly clionid sponge borings Entobia ispp., bivalve borings Gastrochaenolites torpedo and G. lapidicus, the polychaete boring Caulostrepsis taeniola and Meandropolydora isp. The borings are replaced subsequently; as a rule the succession begins with C. taeniola and terminates with Entobia ispp. The discussed boring producers display various tolerance for light, energy and depth conditions, hence their succession may reflect environmental changes, related to marine transgression, proceeded upon rocky coast area. Since such a coast could be devoid of sedimentation for a long time, the possible reconstruction of relative sea-level change may be inferred exclusively from nonsedimentological criteria i.e. from the succession of endolithic borings. Therefore the borings may be employed as useful tool in sequence stratigraphic procedure.

The new method of a detailed morphodynamic registration of sandy beaches has been presented. The digital oriented photograms have been taken from a stabilised point at least once a day. Occasionally also more often, for example every hour during a storm cycle. The analyses of the photograms are performed in digital mode using special computer software. This digital beach monitoring of the Polish Baltic coast was initiated in summer 2002. The test fields in Polanka Redłowska within Gdynia and Chłapowo near Władysławowo were selected. The beach areas of the length of about 200 m along the shore were registered there. Selected examples of short-term changes of the beach relief were presented. A range of spatiotemporal transformations related to different periods (hours, days, months etc.) was demonstrated.

This paper presents the experimental determination of the effect of hardness of the polyurethane (PUR) in a form of the elastomer foam used in various parts of machines or appliances subjected to intensive abrasive wear. Such elements, among others, are static and dynamic technical seals, bumpers, shock-absorbing parts in joints of machine components, and elements of transport equipment in mining or in aggregate and mineral processing [L. 1–3]. Intensive abrasive wear also concerns parts of agricultural and construction machines, road transport, and transport packaging, as well as protective coatings, housing or shields of various machines, and equipment elements [L. 4, 5]. An increase in the abrasive wear resistance of directly determines an increase in the durability and operational reliability of machines and equipment [L. 6]. The hardness of the elastomeric polyurethane influences its physicomechanical and tribological properties [L. 7]. So far, relatively few works have focused on research into the effect of various factors, including the hardness of PUR on the tribological properties of PUR. The aim of this study is to broaden knowledge on the impact of the polyurethane hardness on its resistance to abrasive wear.
W artykule przedstawiono doświadczalne określenie wpływu twardości poliuretanu (PUR) o postaci pianki elastomerowej stosowanej na różne elementy maszyn i urządzeń narażonych na intensywne zużywanie ścierne. Takimi elementami m.in. są: uszczelnienia techniczne spoczynkowe i ruchowe, odboje, części amortyzujące w połączeniach podzespołów maszyn, elementy urządzeń transportowych w przemyśle wydobywczym i przetwórczym kruszyw oraz minerałów. Na intensywne zużywanie ścierne narażone są też części maszyn rolniczych, budowlanych, środków transportu kołowego i opakowań transportowych, jak również powłoki ochronne na różnych elementach, czy też osłony i obudowy wielu innych maszyn i urządzeń. Zwiększenie odporności na zużywanie ścienne tych części bezpośrednio przekłada się na wzrost trwałości i niezawodności eksploatacyjnej maszyn i urządzeń. Twardość PUR o postaci elastomeru ma wpływ na jego własności fizykomechaniczne i właściwości użytkowe, w tym także tribologiczne. Dotychczas stosunkowo niewiele prac dotyczyło badań różnych czynników, w tym twardości PUR, mających wpływ na właściwości tribologiczne PUR. W niniejszej pracy wykazano, że wzrost twardości elastomerowych pianek PUR powoduje zwiększenie ich odporności na zużywanie ścierne.

The main sources of air pollution in ports are ships, on which electrical energy is produced in the autonomous generating sets Diesel-Generator. The most effective way to reduce harmful exhaust emissions from ships is to exclude marine generating sets and provide the shore-side electricity in “Shore to Ship” system. The main problem in the implementation of power supply for ships from land is connected with matching parameters of voltage in onshore network with marine network. Currently, the recommended solution is to supply ships from the onshore electricity network with the use of power electronic converters. This article presents an analysis of the „Shore to Ship” system with the use of generating sets with LNG gas engines. It shows topologies with LNG – Generator sets, environmental benefits of such a solution, advantages and disadvantages.
Głównym źródłem zanieczyszczenia powietrza w portach są statki morskie, na których energie elektryczną wytwarza się w autonomicznych zespołach prądotwórczych Diesel- Generator. Najbardziej skutecznym sposobem ograniczenia szkodliwych emisji spalin przez statki jest wyłączenie okrętowych zespołów prądotwórczych i dostarczenie energii elektrycznej z lądu w systemie „Shore To Ship”. Główny problem realizacji zasilania statków z lądu związany jest z dopasowaniem parametrów napięcia sieci lądowej z siecią okrętową. Obecnie zalecanym rozwiązaniem jest zasilanie z elektroenergetycznej sieci lądowej z wykorzystaniem przekształtników energoelektronicznych. W artykule przeprowadzono analizę systemu „Shore To Ship” z wykorzystaniem zespołów prądotwórczych z silnikami gazowymi LNG. Przedstawiono topologie układów z generatorami LNG, korzyści ekologiczne takiego rozwiązania, zalety i wady.

Welding strength is very important in safe use of polypropylene sheets. The determination of welding parameters and design of the welding tool has an impact on the weld strength. The welding parameters can be determined experimentally. In this study, Charpy impact test is used to determine suitable welding parameters in welding of polypropylene sheets with FSW method. At the same time, the weld zone microstructure is examined and Shore hardness measurements are made. The impact tests were performed on samples cut from the welded sheets. The impact tests values and hardness values were presented graphically. According to the test results, some welded parts behaved similar to the matrix material. In some welding parameters, Charpy impact test values were obtained close to values of the main materials. The suitable welding parameters were determined for polypropylene sheets welding.

The article presents estimations of coastline retreat and advance in Kaliningrad Oblast at 85 monitoring points for a ten-year period of 2007–2017, based on monitoring data supplemented with satellite image analysis. The mean annual rate of coastline retreat and advance was estimated in general for each of the four major morpholithodynamic segments of the coastline: the Vistula (0:2 m/year) and Curonian (0:4 m/year) spits, as well as the western (0:5 m/year) and northern (0:2 m/year) shores of the Sambia Peninsula. The analysis of the shore protection measures implemented in Kaliningrad Oblast from 2007 to 2017 showed that the length of protected shore segments increased by 30% to 14.5 km, which is 10% of the total coastline. The obtained scheme of long-term mean annual rates of coastline retreat and advance clearly demonstrates an uneven distribution of eroded segments along the shores of Kaliningrad Oblast, however the sea shore of Kaliningrad Oblast is mainly susceptible to erosion (44%). Accumulative segments of the shore make up only 17% of the total coastline, and the remaining 39% of the shore is relatively stable. The results obtained demonstrate that the long-term mean annual rate of coastline retreat has decreased to 0:3 m/year from 1 m/year in the earlier period of 2000–2010. The general condition of the entire coastline of Kaliningrad Oblast can therefore be described as relatively sustainable]. The changes are related to several factors, such as an increase in the length of protected shore segments, the resumption of sand pulp dumping in the beach area by the Amber Mining Plant, and an increase in the amount of analytical data from an expanded local monitoring network.

The paper deals with the southern part of the Baltic Sea shore zone, calIed the Coast of Szczecin, from the morpholithodynamical point of view. The coastal zone is divided into three types, namely coast, shore and nearshore. The morphodynamic character of the shore is presented in distinguished cliff and sandbar-dune areas. Further, lithological properties of the shore zone sediments are discussed. FinalIy an attempt of both qualitative and quantitative estimation of sediment supply to the nearshore zone is described, as are the natural conditions affecting its further transportation.

The article presents the results of research concerning the effect of anthracite dust with 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% content in composites with a polypropylene matrix on selected properties. Hardness was examined with the Shore’s D method; stiffness, tensile strength as well as (MFR) Melt Flow Rate and (MVR) Melt Volume Rate of the investigated material were evaluated; wettability of the obtained material was also determined. Surface and volume resistivity were also investigated; the thermal properties of the filler were determined by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). It was found that the investigated polypropylene composites filled with anthracite dust are hydrophobic materials and the composite hardness and stiffness are growing along with the volumetric increase of anthracite. It was noted that anthracite reinforces the material to a limited extent.

Zestawiono dwa najważniejsze i najczęściej spotykane systemy ochronne konstrukcji pełnomorskich oraz obiektów pływających, tj. ochronę katodową oraz ochronę anodową, które stosowane są wraz z systemami powłokowymi.
This paper describes fundamental issues concerned with electrochemical corrosion. Basic mechanism of electrochemical corrosion has been described. The paper also describes corrosion protection systems that are used in the offshore construction during exploitation. In the summary, two most common corrosion protection systems have been described: cathodic protection, and anodic sacrificial protection used with advanced coating systems.

The paper presents a comparative analysis of physical processes occurring at two different coasts, which belong to two different European seas. The first coast under examination comprises the sandy shore nearby Lubiatowo, located at the south Baltic Sea in Poland. The second site is represented by the sandy coast in Shkorpilovtsi, located at the west Black Sea in Bulgaria. Both sites are equipped with field research facilities ensuring extensive and precise in situ investigations. The study is focused on differences and similarities of hydro- and lithodynamics as well as the nearshore morphology between the above coastal zones. The present analysis is based on the results of the field campaigns carried out in recent years at the research facilities in Lubiatowo and Shkorpilovtsi. Considering the way in which wave energy transforms on the cross-shore profile, the sea shore at Lubiatowo is found distinctly dissipative while the shore at RB Shkorpilovtsi has a reflective character. This fact implies some differences in the features of wave-current motion and sediment transport.

The paper presents results of a study of near-bottom currents, lithology and morphodynamics on the shore-zone of the Vistula Spit in Russia and on the western shore of the Sambian Peninsula. The measurements were conducted in 1991 and during the period of 2005-2009. The study involves the analysis of the synchronous and statistical parameters of the currents together with wind, grain-size and sorting coefficient distributions for the deposits of the beach and underwater slope, and also the analysis of the morphology and morphodynamics along the east coast of the Gulf of Gdańsk. It has been shown that under conditions of an acute angle between the seaward wind vector and the coastline the strongest and the most stable longshore currents are formed. An increase of the angle leads to a decrease of velocity and stability of these currents. Under conditions of the wind normal to the shore (90°) in the sector of the curved coast Yantarny - Baltiysk (west wind), convergence of the currents is observed. The assessments of annual capacities of the longshore sediment transport for the coastal segment at the Sambian Peninsula and the deformation volumes on the underwater slope at Baltiysk are summarized. A hypothesis is proposed that the sector of 5-15 km north of Baltiysk under the existing wind-wave conditions is the zone of convergence and the discharge-resulting sediment transport. The assumption of the prevalence of migratory and whirl circulations along the shore zone of Vistula Spit is put forward. It is noticed that entrance moles of Baltiysk considerably impact on parameters of the currents and flow of deposits along the coastline at the length of 3-4 km.

Głównym celem pracy było określenie i sparametryzowanie zjawisk hydrodynamicznych zachodzących w strefie brzegowej morza w obrębie progów podwodnych. W rejonie budowli typu próg podwodny zachodzą skomplikowane procesy hydrodynamiczne, które odgrywają znaczącą rolę w transporcie osadów zarówno od- i dobrzegowych, jak i wzdłużbrzegowych. W niniejszym artykule przeprowadzono analizę dla profilu 331,5 KM w rejonie Kołobrzegu i wykonano obliczenia transportu osadów przy różnym usytuowaniu progów względem brzegu oraz dla różnych ich wysokości i różnych wysokości progów podwodnych. Zmiany erozyjne brzegu w obrębie Kołobrzegu, obserwowane w latach 2007-2011, były bezpośrednią przyczyną powzięcia decyzji o rozpoczęciu w 2012 roku budowy umocnień ochronnych w postaci progów podwodnych, ostróg brzegowych oraz wykonania sztucznego zasilania plaży. Obliczenia wykonane na podstawie danych Urzędu Morskiego w Słupsku z 2013 roku wykazują jednak brak skuteczności tych umocnień, gdyż we wszystkich profilach brzegowych zanotowano zmniejszenie tzw. powierzchni aktywnej. Analiza wariantu z progiem ok. 100 m od brzegu pokazała, że transport rumowiska wzdłuż brzegu dominuje nad transportem od- i dobrzegowym. Obliczona maksymalna wartość tego transportu przed progiem od strony morza jest dwa razy większa od wartości tego transportu w sytuacji bez progu. Należy spodziewać się zatem wzmożonej erozji dna przed progiem od strony morza, wywołanej wzrostem transportu wzdłuż brzegu, spowodowanym wybudowaniem progu. Ponadto okazało się, że w sytuacji ukośnego podchodzenia fali do brzegu pod kątem 30°, dodatkowo przed progiem od strony morza występuje przewaga obliczonych wartości transportu odbrzegowego nad dobrzegowym, co również może oznaczać potencjalną erozję dna przed progiem. Z drugiej jednak strony obliczenia natężenia transportu rumowiska na odcinku pomiędzy progiem a linią brzegu pokazały, że jest ono praktycznie zerowe, co oznacza stabilizację profilu pomiędzy progiem a brzegiem. W pracy przeprowadzono także analizę różnych scenariuszy, dzięki którym można było ocenić skuteczność działania progów w zależności od odległości ich posadowienia od linii brzegowej oraz od położenia korony budowli pod poziomem wody. Obliczenia pokazały, że najkorzystniejszą lokalizacją budowli byłoby położenie progów na głębokości 3.5 m, w odległości ok. 175 m od brzegu. Optymalną wysokością budowli byłaby wysokość rzędu 2.0 m. W takim przypadku obliczone wartości transportu wzdłuż brzegu oraz transportu od- i dobrzegowego w całym profilu poprzecznym są znacząco mniejsze od wartości uzyskanych dla wariantu bez progu, zaś strefa stabilizacji profilu pomiędzy progiem a linią brzegu jest znacząco szeroka. Badania wykazały, że obecne usytuowanie progów może być przyczyną zmian erozyjnych w badanym miejscu. Zaleca się zatem monitorowanie działania tych konstrukcji poprzez systematyczne i okresowe zbieranie danych tachimetrycznych plaży i batymetrycznych przekrojów podwodnych w sąsiedztwie progów.
The main aim of this thesis was to determine and parameterize hydrodynamic phenomena occurring in the coastal zone of the sea within the submerged structures. The hydrodynamic processes occurring in the region of submerged breakwaters play a significant role in transport of both cross-shore sediment transport and primarily for long-shore sediment transport. In this article 331,5 KM of the Baltic Sea was analyzed and simulated for different locations and different levels of submerged breakwaters. Coastal erosional changes within Kolobrzeg, observed in 2007-2011, were the direct cause of the decision to launch in 2012 the construction of protective fortifications in the form of underwater thresholds, shore spurs and artificial beach power supply. The calculations based on the data from the Maritime Office in Slupsk from 2013 showed the lack of effectiveness of these reinforcements, as in all edge profiles there was a decrease in the so-called active surface. The analysis of the variant with a threshold of about 100 m from the shore showed that the transport of sediment along the shore dominates over the transport and the coastage. The calculated maximum value of this transport before the seaside threshold is twice as large as the value of this transport in a non-threshold situation. Therefore, an increased erosion of the bottom before the seaside threshold, caused by the increase of transport along the shore and the construction of the threshold should be expected. It turned out that in case of an inclined wave approach to the shore at an angle of 30°, in addition to the sea-front threshold, there is a predominance of calculated values of the transport over the shore which may also mean potential bottom erosion. On the other hand calculations of the sediment transport intensity in the section between the threshold and the shoreline showed that it is virtually zero which means stabilization of the profile between the threshold and the edge. The study also involved analysis of various scenarios in which it was possible to assess the effectiveness of thresholds depending on the distance of their foundation from the shoreline and the location of the building crown below the water level. The researches showed that the most favorable location of the building would be the location of the thresholds at a depth of 3.5 m at a distance of about 175 m from the shore. The optimal height of the building would be the height of 2.0 m. In this case the calculated values of transport along the shore and the distance of transport in the whole cross section are significantly smaller than the values obtained for the variant without a threshold and the profile stabilization zone between the threshold and the shoreline is significantly wide. Studies have shown that the current location of this construction may cause erosive lesions in the researched place. It is recommended to monitor the area of these structures by systematic and periodic collection of tacheometric beach data and bathymetric underwater sections in the vicinity of the thresholds.

There are promising application prospects for applying the shore power technology to the ships in the port for the purpose of pollution prevention. However, the grid-connection of the shore power supply to the ship power grid leads to current surges, damages the ship power consumption equipment, and results in the instability of the ship power grid system, which will seriously affect the reliability of the operation of the ship power grid system. In order to address this problem, the mathematical model of virtual synchronous generator is introduced in this paper. Then, a control method for the flexible grid-connection of the shore power supply to the ship power grid based on the virtual synchronous generator is proposed. Next, the output characteristics of the shore power supply are optimized to match the characteristics of the ship generator, which contributes to the flexible grid-connection of the shore power supply to the ship power grid system. The effectiveness and the feasibility of this method are verified by simulation and experiments.

Na podstawie pomiarów morfologicznych klifu i plaży oraz dokumentacji fotograficznej ustalono współczesne tempo erozji klifu w miejscowości Trzęsacz w latach 1997-2017. Zarejestrowane zmiany geodynamiczne klifu powiązano z cyklicznymi czynnikami sprawczymi: spiętrzeniami sztormowymi i opadami deszczu. Ponadto przedstawiono historyczne zmiany morfodynamiczne klifu i niszczenia kościoła w oparciu o dostępne publikacje, mapy i fotografie. Od 2003 r. ruinę chroni ścianka szczelna z gabionów – klif w tym miejscu jest nieaktywny. Od 2010 r. podnóże klifu Wybrzeża Trzebiatowskiego od Niechorza do Trzęsacza osłonięte jest opaską, to zatrzymało znaczną erozję rejestrowaną na całym odcinku do 2009 r. Ustalono, że zabieg ten nie chroni przed cofaniem krawędzi klifu, wynoszącym do 0,1 m a–1 tuż przy ruinie kościoła. Na ostatnim 200-stu metrowym odcinku bez opaski średnie tempo cofania krawędzi wynosi 0,4 m a–1.
In the article it has been presented historical and present morphodynamic change the of the morainic cliff in the region of Trzęsacz on the west Polish Baltic coast. Historical cliff and church erosion have been described basing on available publications, maps and photographs. On the basis of field morphological measurements, current rate of cliff erosion was determined for period 1997–2017. The recorded geodynamical cliff changes of the have been related to the periodic impact factors: storm surges and precipitation. Since 2003, the ruin has been protected by a wall made of gabions – the cliff is inactive. Since 2010, the foot of the cliff of the Trzebiatów Highland from Niechorze to Trzęsacz is shielded with a rocky band. This protection has stopped significant cliff erosion recorded until 2009. It was found that this treatment does not protect against the cliff edge retreat, that is up to 0.1 m per year near the church ruin. Along the last 200 m long cliff section without band, the average cliff edge retreat is 0.4 m annually.

The article presents the results of a study on sediment deposition processes in the palaeolake shore zone, at the multilayered Serteya II archaeological site in Western Russia. In recent years, geomorphological, palaeopedological and palaeoecological research was undertaken in strict cooperation with archaeological fieldwork. The Serteya II site occupies a substantial area of a kame terrace and biogenic plain within a palaeolake basin. From an archaeological point of view, the site is represented by few Mesolithic artefacts, but mostly by remnants of hunter–gatherer–fisher communities attributed in the Russian scientific tradition to the Neolithic period and dated from 6300 BC to 2000 BC. Later, the area was used by people in the Bronze Age, Early Iron Age and Early Middle Ages. The integration of archaeological and multidisciplinary palaeoenvironmental research allowed the natural and human induced deposition of mineral-organic and minerogenic sediments to be reconstructed, as well as the development of structures in the lake shore zone. The changes from lacustrine to fluvial system were documented and the human impact is recorded mostly in the acceleration of slope processes.

Increased sea transport with a constantly growing demand by ships for electric power means higher emission of pollutions generated by ships to the atmosphere. To turn off automatic generator sets which are the main source of air pollution emissions by ships mooring in the port a ship has to be connected to the power land network. Quality of electric power supplied from the land is of a great importance connected with security of the work of naval systems and economical ship functioning. Complicated computer steering systems more and more frequently used on ships are very sensitive to disturbances and require energy supply of a very high quality. In this article basic information about quality of electric power supplied to the ship from the land network and chosen ways of its improvement are presented.

W celu wyłączenia autonomicznych zespołów prądotwórczych, które są głównym źródłem emisji zanieczyszczeń powietrza przez statki cumujące w porcie jest podłączenie statku do elektroenergetycznej sieci lądowej. Jakość energii elektrycznej dostarczanej z lądu ma ogromne znaczenie związane z bezpieczeństwem pracy systemów okrętowych i ekonomicznym funkcjonowaniem statku. Stosowane coraz powszechniej na statkach skomplikowane komputerowe systemy sterowania są bardzo wrażliwe na zaburzenia i wymagają zasilania o bardzo wysokiej jakości. W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono podstawowe informacje dotyczące jakości energii elektrycznej dostarczanej na statek z sieci lądowej oraz wybrane sposoby jej poprawy.

Greater interdependence and integration among the countries worldwide have resulted in the growth of the world trade and, what follows, marine transportation. In the last few years, despite the world economic stagnation, the number of ships has increased. An increase in the marine transportation means greater air pollution caused by ships, what is of paramount importance for the port cities. One of the efficient ways of limiting the negative impact of ships lying in ports on the environment is the power supply from the local electricity stations. This will allow for turning marine power generating systems off, what will result in the emission elimination in the ship’s mooring time along with the decrease of noise and vibrations. The infrastructure of the port electric installation necessary for the ships’ supply has to be designed so as to make the operating of different ship types possible. It is complicated as all over the world ships are equipped with different electric systems. The paper deals with general issues related to common nominal voltages and frequencies for vessels which call in European harbours and their estimated power demands. Additionally, a case study of a ferry vessel, currently undergoing retrofitting for shore connections, is presented and some particulars concerning technical solutions and environmental profits are described.

Ro-ro vessels use shipside and shore ramps as roll-on/roll-off loading facilities. Baltic Sea has not tidal effects and water level did not change very much. In same time water level fluctuations in ports areas make difficulties to establish proper access to shore for ro-ro vessels during loading and unloading operations. Flexibility of ro-ro vessel-to-shore links pan is one of the key elements for optimization of ro-ro operations in ports. Feasibility outline of pontoon ramp potential, calculation methods and practical usage is studded and presented further in the article.

The focus of this paper is on process planning for large parts manufacture in systems of definite process capabilities, involving the use of multi-axis machining centres. The analysis of machining heavy mechanical components used in off-shore constructions has been carried out. Setup concepts applied and operation sequences determined in related process plans underwent studies. The paper presents in particular a reasoning approach to setup sequencing and machine assignment in manufacturing large-size components of offshore constructions. The relevant reasoning mechanism within a decision making scheme on generated process plan is shown based on a case study derived from the offshore sector. Recommendations for manufacture of selected exemplary and typical parts were formulated.

On nine beaches and two transects in the surf zone along the Dutch coast the presence of benthic macrofauna was studied in relation to basic abiotic characteristics. According to Short’s classification system, Dutch beaches are mesotidal and dissipative (Ω = 8.6), and the RTR is low (1.52–1.27), which means that they are not tide-dominated. BSI ranged from 1.4 to 1.1 for the northern and western Dutch coasts respectively and had an overall value of 1.2. The rates of exposure of the beaches varied between 8 and 12, and are therefore regarded as sheltered to moderately exposed. The Dutch beaches display a geographical trend in beach types. Those of the Wadden Sea islands in the northern part of the Netherlands are dissipative, flat, fine-grained, and host high densities of many species of benthic macrofauna. The beaches along the western Dutch coast are less dissipative, steeper, with a higher mean grain size; the species diversity and abundance there are lower. Species diversity and abundance on the beaches increase from the high- to the low-water line. The maximum number of species was found between 0 and –1 m relative to the mean tidal level. The abundance peaks just above the mean tidal level, while the biomass reaches a maximum at the mean tidal level. Species diversity and abundance are low in the surf zone, but increase towards deeper water. Species numbers are high and the abundance is very high in the trough between the two bars. The relation between the diversity and abundance of macrobenthic species on the one hand, and the sediment composition, water column depth, and position between the bars on the other show a clear pattern of zonation for the beach, surf zone and near-shore: (1) a supralittoral zone with insects and air-breathing crustaceans, (2) a midshore zone, with intertidal species, (3) a lower shore zone, whose species extend into the shallow surf zone, and (4) a zone of sublittoral fauna in the trough between the two breaker bars within the surf zone.

Deformations of the channel are a consequence of the development of denudation processes in the basin area, increase in the volume of solid runoff and deposition of debris of the rock, its fractional redistribution in the channels, which especially increase during floods and flooding. They cause changes in the hydrological regime and structure of the river system, the destruction of residential and commercial buildings, as well as the infrastructure in the floodplain. Trends, magnitudes and intensity of deformations of riverbeds are formed by a complex of natural and man-made factors. Neglecting the planned and high-altitude displacements of riverbeds often leads to unpredictable consequences. Washing the shore can cause a gas or oil pipeline to rupture, leading to a strong explosion and fire, as well as oil pollution and environmental damage. Channel processes are associated with the washing of bridge piers, power lines, significant material losses and even human casualties during floods and flooding. The aim of the work is to analyze the development of channel processes in the basin of the river Stryi and forecast the deformation of its channel. The results of the analysis show that the riverbeds of Prykarpattia are very unstable and are characterized by intense erosion of the banks and bottom, which is caused by the influence of various factors. It is a man-made activity that includes the development of gravel quarries in floodplains and riverbeds and their straightening, runoff regulation, changes in forestry and land use. Natural factors, such as climate change and water runoff, etc., are also affected. It was found that the bed of the river Stryi does not have a stable shape, significantly changed the configuration, significantly reduced multi-sleeved and increased its straightness, and in some places the river changed its position by 60–80 meters. Restoration works carried out in some parts of the riverbed during this period were not effective enough. Water in different parts of the riverbed washes the shores, which causes dangerous landslides that occur directly near the riverbed. In these areas, it is necessary to more effectively carry out measures to regulate runoff and restore shore protection.

The paper presents the results of studies on the long-term evolution of the multi-bar cross-shore profiles. The analysis is focused on time-dependent variability of shoreline position, a modified parameter A of the conventional Dean's equation and a parameter F describing the amount of nearshore sediment resources in the multi-bar cross-shore profile. The study also deals with interrelationships between these quantities. The analysis is carried out using field data collected at Lubiatowo, Poland, on the dissipative shore, representative for the south Baltic. The considered coastal segment is found to be stable in the long-term scale. The results of analysis show that the parameter A can either increase or decrease together with the shoreline advance. It is concluded that the shoreline position change is a parameter unsatisfactorily representative for behaviour of the seashore. The use of the Dean's approximation for estimation of the sediment resources F on the multi-bar seashore profiles is found reasonable to eliminate the effects of peculiarities of such shores.

Psathyrella ammophila is a psammophilous fungus most frequently inhabiting seashore beaches, sand dunes and sandy inland areas. Although it is a widely spread species, in some countries it is rare or threatened, including Poland, where it is classified as “endangered” (E). In Poland, P. ammophila has been found in 26 localities, including 14 new reports after 1970. We present two new Polish localities from white sand dunes at the western shore of the Baltic Sea (Wolin Island). Moreover, ecological information and macroscopic and microscopic features of the basidiocarp based on collected samples are presented. The problem of the disappearance of dunes as a primary habitat of P. ammophila is also discussed.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest charakterystyka formatu Jersey Shore oraz zbadanie jego odbioru wśród grup fokusowych. Analizie w szczególności zostały poddane: aspekt etyczny formatu oraz jego rola zarówno w funkcjonowaniu jednostki, jak i grupy odbiorców. Badania przeprowadzone przy pomocy metody wywiadu grupowego (FGI) na dwóch grupach studentów opierają się na trzech obszarach badawczych, które określają stosunek respondentów do formatu Jersey Shore, badają poziom identyfikacji studentów z zaprezentowanymi zachowaniami uczestników reality show oraz umożliwiają zlokalizowanie omawianego programu między kreacją programu a rzeczywistością, a także badają wrażliwość widzów i ich poczucie etyki w odniesieniu do formatu Jersey Shore. Badania pomagają określić specyfikę programu, definiując ją na podstawie osobistych odczuć respondentów, których istotnymi konkluzjami zdaje się być wspólna refleksja nad fenomenem formatu oraz jego przyszłością.
The purpose of this article is to define the Jersey Shore format and to examine its reception among focus groups. In particular, the analysis covered the ethical aspect of the format and its role in the functioning of the individual as well as the group of recipients. Research conducted with the help of the group interview method (FGI) on two groups of students is based on three research areas that determine respondents’ attitude to the Jersey Shore format, examine the level of student identification with presented behaviors of reality show participants and enable locating the discussed reality between program creation and reality, and also examine the viewers’ sensitivity and their sense of ethics in relation to the Jersey Shore format. The research helps determine the specificity of the program, defining it on the basis of personal emotions of the respondents, whose important conclusions seem to be a common reflection on the phenomenon of the format and its future.

Lake Vortsjärv is one of the biggest lakes in Eastern Europe and possesses a complex geological history. Bottom deposits consist mostly of fine sand and silt, accompanied with sapropel (up to 9 m thick) and lake marl (up to 8 m thick). In places, especially in the northern part where the bottom deposits are absent, varved clay or till are exposed in the lake basin. In the southern part of the lake the deposits are much thicker, indicating a gradual rise of water-level. Like the majority of lakes in the Northern Hemisphere, Lake Vortsjärv possesses a more open eastern and a more swampy and overgrown western bank. Shore types and the lithological composition of shore sediments are varied and highly controlled by the bedrock and glacial deposits. Long-shore transport of sediments is limited. The mineral composition of bottom sediments shows great qualitative and quantitative variability which relates to the grain-size and petrography of the parent deposits. Organic-rich sapropel can be used in agriculture and evidently also for medicinal purposes.

Obszary nadbałtyckie należą do najatrakcyjniejszych regionów w Polsce. Charakteryzują się niezwykłą różnorodnością przyrodniczą oraz szczególnym klimatem, co decyduje o walorach wypoczynkowych i zdrowotnych. Możliwości turystycznego wykorzystywania determinuje jednak ich odpowiednie zagospodarowanie. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki analizy porównawczej zagospodarowania turystycznego trzech popularnych nadmorskich kurortów (Helu – Półwyspu Helskiego, Sopotu i Ustki) oraz oceny form czynnej ochrony potencjału przyrodniczego. Przedmiotem badań był wpływ zagospodarowania przestrzeni na intensywność ruchu turystycznego, sposób ochrony brzegu morskiego, zagospodarowanie plaż nadmorskich z uwzględnieniem kontekstu krajobrazowego i dbałości o detale infrastruktury. Oceniane kurorty charakteryzują się bardzo dobrym zagospodarowaniem turystycznym i mogą stanowić wzory dobrej praktyki w zakresie kształtowania krajobrazu nadmorskiego w myśl idei zrównoważonego rozwoju.
The Baltic coastal areas are among the most attractive regions in Poland. They are characterised by unusual natural diversity and specific climate, which determines their recreational and health values. The appropriate development, however, determines the potential tourist use of those areas. The work presents the results of comparative analyses of tourist development in three popular tourist coastal spa areas (Hel – Hel Peninsula, Sopot and Ustka) and evaluation of the forms of the natural potential of active protection. The subject of study was the influence of spatial development on the intensity of tourist traffic, marine coast protection, development of seacoast beaches whilst considering the landscape context and care for infrastructural details. The evaluated spas are characterised by very good tourist development and they may set an example of good practice in seaside landscape development in line with the idea of sustainable development.

The detailed sedimentological study of the 150-m-thick Muschelkalk succession, deposited on a small (~200 by 80 km), morphologically diverse Upper Silesian carbonate platform during four major marine-transgressive pulses of the Tethys Ocean, enhanced the understanding of the depositional history, palaeogeography, and facies distribution. A total of thirty-five lithofacies types were identified, described and interpreted in terms of depositional settings. These different lithofacies represent various shallow-marine environments along the platform transect, from peritidal to offshore areas. The vertical and lateral organization of the lithofacies delineated was caused by the interplay of platform morphology, third-order eustasy and the long-term tectonic evolution of the area. Accordingly, the carbonate system studied is a good example of the influence of large-scale processes on the facies architecture of carbonate platforms. In general, all of the four Transgressive Systems Tracts are characterized by similarity in lithofacies composition and vertical succession and by minor lateral change, indicating only limited influence of the three large-scale factors mentioned on lithofacies development and distribution during transgressions. In contrast, each of the four associated Highstand Systems Tracts comprises an individual (unique) lithofacies assemblage displaying substantial regional and local variation, which indicates that the filling of accommodation space during highstands strongly depended on the extrinsic processes.

The paper deals with a sandy shore located on the open sea side of the Hel Peninsula in Poland (the south Baltic Sea coast). The study site displays a cross-shore profile that intensively dissipates wave energy, mostly due to breaking. The theoretical modelling of wave transformation at this site reveals specific distributions of wave heights and bed shear stresses. The sediment borrow areas, presently used and identified for future exploitation, are located inconveniently far from the periodically re-nourished shores. The paper presents the possibilities of dredging works in the coastal zone that would not disturb the natural nearshore motion of water and sediments. The results of the study can be helpful in formulating generic safety standards, at least with respect to dissipative shores of non-tidal or micro-tidal seas, like the Baltic Sea.

Opis:
W artykule przedstawiono możliwości zastosowania połączonej analizy zdjęć lotniczych, wyników terenowych pomiarów geodezyjnych oraz technik DGIS, z wykorzystaniem oprogramowania środowiska GIS, w badaniach przekształceń strefy brzegowej zbiornika zaporowego Jeziorsko na Warcie. Metoda ta pozwoliła zrekonstruować stan strefy brzegowej zbiornika w końcowym etapie jego napełnienia, a następnie monitorować dynamikę jej rozwoju w różnych okresach funkcjonowania. Zbiornik Jeziorsko na rzece Warcie został utworzony w latach 1986-1992. Jest to drugi pod względem powierzchni i czwarty pod względem pojemności sztuczny zbiornik wodny w Polsce. Przy maksymalnym napełnieniu akwen ten ma 16 km długości, a jego pojemność wynosi 202,3 mln m3 . W tych warunkach długość brzegów zbiornika wynosi 44,3 km. Zdecydowana większość brzegów nieumocnionych jest aktywna, 67% ma charakter abrazyjny, a 7% akumulacyjny (Banach, Grobelska 2003). Brzegi zbiornika rozwijają się w obrębie silnie zaburzonych glacjalnych i fluwioglacjalnych utworów zlodowacenia środkowopolskiego oraz punktowo w iłach plioceńskich. Zbiornik Jeziorsko cechują wysokie, około 5-metrowe, roczne wahania stanów wody. W badaniach wykorzystano dwie serie zdjęć lotniczych, wykonane w 1991 i 2004 r., przy maksymalnych stanach wody w zbiorniku, ortofotomapę w skali 1:10 000 z 1996 r. oraz mapy topograficzne w skali 1:10 000 przedstawiające stan otoczenia zbiornika przed jego utworzeniem. Prowadzone od 2008 r. pomiary terenowe obejmowały powtarzalne, 2-3 razy w roku: w okresie wczesnowiosennym przy niskim stanie wody, w okresie późnowiosennym przy maksymalnym stanie wody i ponownie przy niskim stanie wody w okresie jesiennym, precyzyjne pomiary geodezyjne za pomocą tachymetru elektronicznego Wild TC 500 firmy Leica, odbiornika DGPS firmy Trimble oraz taśmy mierniczej w obrębie sieci założonych reperów. Otrzymane wyniki opracowano w oprogramowaniu ArcGIS, co pozwoliło na ich doprowadzenie do jednego układu współrzędnych i skali. Dla materiałów fotogrametrycznych po przetworzeniu uzyskano dokładność poziomą 0,5 m. Analiza materiałów fotogrametrycznych oraz pomiarów terenowych pozwoliła na wyliczenie średniego rocznego tempa abrazji brzegu zbiornika Jeziorsko w latach 1991-2004, 2004-2009 oraz współczesnego natężenia tego procesu, tj. w latach 2008-2009. W całym okresie funkcjonowania zbiornika Jeziorsko (lata 1991-2009), krawędź klifu cofnęła się od 4,6 do 25,1 m, tj. od 0,26 do 1,39 m/r., średnio 1 m/r. W pierwszym okresie funkcjonowania zbiornika (lata 1991-2004), tempo abrazji brzegów wynosiło od 0,35 do 1,63 m/r., podczas gdy w latach 2004-2009 wahało się od 0,26 do 1,28 m. Obecne tempo przemieszczania klifu, określone na podstawie pomiarów geodezyjnych wykonywanych w obrębie założonej sieci monitoringowej, wynosi od 0,1 do 0,3 m/r. Punktowo tempo abrazji osiąga 1 m/r.!
The paper aims at presenting the contemporary research methods based on the aerial photogrammetry and terrain measuring with used to Geographical Information Systems (GIS), which may be used for supporting and analyzing the morphodynamic processes (geomorphological and fluvial) of reservoirs. Due to the fact there had been no earlier research, it was necessary to use a method which would give a competent quality and credibility measure of the changes. Author have aimed to reconstruct the conditions of the bank dynamics since 1986. The Jeziorsko Reservoir was created between 1986-1992 on the Warta River, and it is one of the largest reservoirs on the Polish lowlands. The reservoir is 16 km long and its capacity exceeds 202.3 mln m3 , the coast line has over 44.3 km, of which more then 63% unreinforced reservoir shores is active, i.e. it has got abrasive (56%) or accumulative (7.0%) character (Banach, Grobelska 2003). The banks are built with Quaternary glacial sediments (tills, sands and clays), and in a few places with Pliocene clays. Since 1992, when the filling was completed, the coast line has started the evolution of accumulation, abrasion and erosion processes. The high water level fluctuations during the exploitation of the reservoir amount to 5 mźy–1. Additionally, they intensify the natural coast transformations. The following cartographic and photogrammetric materials were used: a topographic maps at a scale of 1:5000, 1:10 000 aerial photographs taken in 1991 and 2004 and an orthophotomap from 1998 at 1:1000 scale. Data from field studies were collected by means of the Global Positioning System (GPS). The changes in the reservoir coastal zone detected on the aerial photographs were mainly situated in the highest bank zone. Thanks to the use of the GIS, the achieved horizontal mean accuracy was below 0.5 m for photogrammetry. At present, the database makes use of a mobile as well as a desktop GIS. During the entire exploitation period of the Jeziorsko Reservoir, 1991-2009, the cliff edge has moved from 4.6 to 25.1 m i.e. from 0.26 up to 1.39 m annually, av. 1 m a year. In the first analysed period of the reservoir functioning, 1991-2004, the recession rate amounted from 0.35 to 1.63 m annually, whereas in 2004-2009 it oscillated from 0.26 up to 1.28 m. At present the rate of the cliff movement equals from 0.1 up to 0.3 m a year, locally it reaches 1 m a year. The main goal of the researchers is to create a model of the coastal line evolution on the reservoir high water fluctuations.

The paper deals with the influence of the wave shape, represented by water surface elevations and wave-induced nearbed velocities, on sediment transport under joint wave-current impact. The focus is on the theoretical description of vertically asymmetric wave motion and the effects of wave asymmetry on net sediment transport rates during interaction of coastal steady currents, namely wave-driven currents, with wave-induced unsteady free stream velocities. The cross-shore sediment transport is shown to depend on wave asymmetry not only quantitatively (in terms of rate), but also qualitatively (in terms of direction).Within longshore lithodynamics, wave asymmetry appears to have a significant effect on the net sediment transport rate.

Opis:
Periodic inundation by sand is a very common feature of rocky coasts throughout the world. Even so, there have been few direct observations or experiments to investigate the role of sediments on intertidal rocky shores. We designed a field experiment in Mazatl´an Bay, Mexico, to test the initial impact and subsequent recovery of intertidal macrobenthic assemblages exposed to sand burial at two sites of varying wave exposure. Both sites supported different natural assemblages. Treatment plots for the addition of sediment and control plots (50×50 cm), separated by at least 1.5 m, were randomly placed across the mid-water tidal level. The initial response of the resident macrobenthos and the subsequent recolonization was monitored over a period of 95 days. The main effect of sediment deposition at both sites was mortality and removal of biota due to smothering. The recovery process was rapid and may in part have been the result of the mechanism by which the small, disturbed patches were recolonized. Most of the invertebrates colonized the patches as adults; several seaweeds exhibited vegetative growth as the major mechanism of colonization (e.g., Ulva lactuca Linnaeus, 1753, Amphiroa valonioides Yendo, 1902 and Chaetomorpha antennina (Borgensen) Kutzing, 1849). The rate of recovery varied between the sites, however. Recovery of species numbers proceeded quickly at the sheltered site (day 7), but took 95 days at the exposed site. In contrast, biomass reached control levels by day 45 at the sheltered site, but already by day 15 at the exposed site. By day 95, the assemblages recovered to 83.5% and 81% similarity with the controls at the sheltered and exposed sites respectively. Although differences in wave exposure could be very important in determining the different patterns of recovery at both sites, other biological processes may also play an important part.

To achieve a better understanding of predation pattern recorded in the fossil record it is essential to study predator−prey interactions in the modern seas. It includes the data collected from the field observations as well as from the experiments in captivity. Such an approach allows recognition of the bioeroders, its description and also provides quantification of these interactions. This work offers a case study of the traces of predation resulting from the predator−prey interactions between three mussels: Mytilus chilensis, Brachidontes purpuratus, and Aulacomya atra; and their five natural enemies: the gastropods Trophon geversianus, Xymenopsis muriciformis, and Acanthina monodon, and the asteroids Cosmasterias lurida and Anasterias antarctica living along the intertidal and/or subtidal rocky shores in Tierra del Fuego. The predatory damage to mussel shells varies according to the predator and prey species and techniques for attacking prey are highly specialized. A. monodon drills a hole in B. purpuratus but uses the outer lip of its shell as a wedge to open the valves of M. chilensis and A. atra. T. geversianus always makes holes, but while it drills the valve walls of M. chilensis, it prefers to drill the valve edges of A. atra and B. purpuratus, with different characteristic patterns. Usually the shells of mussels killed by C. lurida do not suffer from any mechanical damage, but some other shells were crushed or fractured along the margins. Comparatively, time required to successfully attack a prey was shorter in C. lurida (24 hours), followed by A. monodon (36 hours), and longer in T. geversianus (9 to 10 days). Traces of predation are not randomly distributed across size classes of mussel prey, reflecting selectivity for a particular size class. Also, drill holes are usually placed at specific sectors of the shell, indicating site selectivity. These observations offer some paleontological implications for investigating the pattern of predation in fossil record. They show that different patterns of shell damage can be due to different predator species (e.g., wall vs. edge drillings), although the same predator species can leave different marks when consuming different prey (e.g., T. geversianus). Most disconcerting for paleontologists are cases of predation which do not leave any marks on the prey shell detectable in the fossil record (e.g., predation by asteroids), or leave ambiguous marks (A. monodon when preying with the spine). In conclusion, besides the opportunity to identify some traces of predation by drilling gastropods in fossil mussels, this work gives criteria to address predation in some particular paleontological cases that would otherwise be dismissed by researchers.

The paper describes lithodynamic and morphodynamic processes occurring in the main part of the south-eastern Baltic coastal area, namely on the sea shores from the Vistula mouth in the Gulf of Gdansk to the Lithuanian-Latvian border. The study area is subject to intensive natural coastal changes, as well as shore evolution caused by anthropogenic impacts at several locations. Methods of coastal protection against erosion and shore stabilization systems applied in the past and currently are described. The paper deals with the causes of the dynamics of beach/dune shores and cliffs. It presents the authors’ field observations of 2010-2013, as well as previously gained knowledge and the results of Polish, Russian and joint Polish-Russian field surveys.

The paper presents results of field and theoretical investigations of wave transformation in the surf zone near the IBW PAN Coastal Research Station in Lubiatowo (Poland, the south Baltic Sea). The study site displays multi-bar cross-shore profiles that intensively dissipate wave energy, mostly induced by breaking. The main field data comprise wave heights and cross-shore bathymetric profiles. Wave transformation is modelled theoretically by two approaches, namely the IBW PAN phase-averaged wave transformation model and the approach based on the hydraulic jump model, developed by Hsu & Lai (2009) for hydrological situations encountered under the actual conditions of two field campaigns – in 1987 and 1996. Discrepancies between the measured data and the model results are discussed. In general, the model results are in good agreement with the in-situ observations. The comparison of the field data with the computational results concerns a part of the surf zone between about 5 m water depth and the first nearshore stable bar, where the depth amounts to ca. 1.2 m.

A way of modelling of the net sediment transport rate on a cross-shore profile and the resulting sea bed changes is presented. In the sediment transport computations, a three-layer model with a description of the bedload based on the water-soil mixture theory by Kaczmarek& Ostrowski (1998, 2002) is used. The modelling system is applied to wave-current conditions variable over the cross-shore profile, and determined using the computational frameworkof Szmytkiewicz (2002a, b). The sediment transport module incorporates the asymmetric wave approaches as proposed by Ostrowski (2002). Model simulations have been produced for uniformly sloped and multi-bar initial cross-shore profiles. Some of the model results are compared with the IBW PAN (Institute of Hydroengineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences) field data collected at the Coastal Research Station in Lubiatowo.

The paper presents results of field and theoretical investigations of a natural sandy shore located near the IBW PAN Coastal Research Station in Lubiatowo (Poland, the south Baltic Sea). The study site displays multi-bar cross-shore profiles that intensively dissipate wave energy, mostly by breaking. The main field data comprise offshore wave parameters and three cross-shore bathymetric profiles. Waveinduced nearbed velocities and bed shear stresses are theoretically modelled for weak, moderate, strong and extreme storm conditions to determine sediment motion regimes at various locations on the seaward boundary of the surf zone. The paper contains a discussion on the depth of closure concept, according to which the offshore range of sea bottom changes can be determined by the extreme seasonal deep-water wave parameters.

A long wave run-up theory is applied to the modelling of wave-induced flow velocities, sediment transport rates and bottom changes in a swash zone. First, the properties of the water tongue motion and the resulting lithodynamic response are analysed theoretically. Next, an attempt is made to run the model for the natural conditions encountered on the southern Baltic Sea coast. The Lagrangian swash velocities are used to determine the Eulerian phase-resolved bed shear stresses with a momentum integral method, after which the motion of sand is described by the use of a two-layer model, comprising bedload and nearbed suspended load. Seabed evolution is then found from the spatial variability of the net sediment transport rates. The results presented are limited to cases of the small-amplitude waves that seem to be responsible for accretion on beaches.

Spring development in the hydrolittoral zone was investigated at five wave-sheltered and five wave-exposed sites on four occasions from late March to late May (every third week). The number of species was higher at the sheltered locations and increased significantly over time. The difference in community structure was significant: over 95% of the Bray-Curtis dissimilarities were due to the biomass of only eleven taxa, and the total Bray-Curtis dissimilarity between exposed and sheltered sites was 75%. Macroalgae made up 70–80% of the total biomass and was dominated by filamentous species. In contrast to previous studies, macroalgal biomass was higher at the exposed sites, which may be due to the fact that this was a spring study, unlike previous studies, which were conducted during summer.

The shore zone of Jeziorsko Reservoir, located in central Poland, is subject to intense erosional processes, mainly abrasion, which lead to significant morphology transformation of the shore and, in some cases, to the formation of cliffs. The use of close-range photogrammetry allows evaluating the erosion rate and the identificationof the area of these changes. Currently, the morphometric data on all cliffs located on the east shore of Jeziorsko Reservoir are obtained with the close-range photogrammetry technique. The presented surveys are the first stage of long-term monitoring of the east shore of Jeziorsko Reservoir. The morphometric data of the shore will be collected over the next several years. It will enable to determine the rate and direction of abrasion processes. Combined with textural analysis of sediments, it will also allow defining the influence of geological structures on the cliff development.

Autonomous and remotely controlled ships present new types of human factor challenges. An investigation of the underlying human factors in such operations is therefore necessary to mitigate safety hazards while improving operational efficiency. More tests are needed to identify operators’ levels of control, workload and stress. The aim of this study is to assess how increases in mental workload influence the stress levels of Shore Control Centre (SCC) operators during remote ship operations. Nine experiments were performed to investigate the stress levels of SCC operators during human-human and human-machine interactions. Data on the brain signals of human operators were collected directly by electroencephalography (EEG) and subjectively by the NASA task load index (TLX). The results show that the beta and gamma band powers of the EEG recordings were highly correlated with subjective levels of workload and stress during remote ship operations. They also show that there was a significant change in stress levels when workload increased, when ships were operating in harsh weather, and when the number of ships each SCC operator is responsible for was increased. Furthermore, no significant change in stress was identified when SCC operators established very high frequency (VHF) communication or when there was a risk of accident.

Nowadays managers and decision-makers around the world seek every opportunity to lower costs of the ship’s mooring time at seaports. In this article, main operations taking place at maritime container terminals are first disaggregated in several elementary activities. Then the vessel cycle time is analysed while separately investigating the STS (Ship to Shore) crane cycle time, the RTG (Rubber-Tyred Gantry) crane work cycle time and the IMV (Internal Movement Vehicle) transfer time. A triangular distribution describes times of each of the container handling stages while the PERT (Program Evaluation and Review Technique) method is used to estimate the total time for all reloading activities. The paper demonstrates the proposed method effectiveness with data of Baltic Container Terminal (BCT) Gdynia. The use of formulas developed for the calculation of times of individual operations that affect the reloading of a container at maritime container terminals enables an in-depth assessment of the effectiveness of the reloading processes. Thus, the proposed tool gives terminal managers opportunity to track which stage of the container reloading consumes most time and generates biggest costs.

Opis:
For the enlargement of the nautical dimensions of Santos Port Outer Access Channel (Brazil), training walls crossing the Offshore Bar are needed. The training walls choice to reduce dredging rates also induces to consider a coupling planning between nautical purposes and shore protection measures, as Santos Municipality have serious erosion problems nowadays due to the urban growth in the backshore and sea level rise. For decision support, the Hydraulic Laboratory of Engineering School of University of Sao Paulo was commissioned to study in a composite mathematical and scale model. Results include changes in wave height and direction and current speed analysis to conditions with training walls and segmented breakwaters. The water renewal was also analyzed to the condition with segmented breakwater and compared to current situation, based on hydrodynamics results and considering that this structure can reduce water quality in this area.

Shared mental models, measured as similar perceptions and understandings of the components of a work task or an operative environment, is a key characteristic for high performing teams. Identifying and addressing differences in mental models may help enhance teamwork, and can serve as a frame for the improvement of human-centered information and communication systems. This paper has been written as part of the SESAME Straits project, a testbed within the e-Navigation framework. It examines similarities and differences in mental models between Deck Officers working aboard ships and Vessel Traffic Service Officers working ashore. Data was compared the participants´ perception of 12 challenging traffic situations in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore. A total of 189 respondents participated by means of an electronic survey. Findings show that Deck and Vessel Traffic Officers do have a large degree of shared mental models, but that there also are significant differences. In particular, there are large ship-shore differences in perceptions of the impact on local ship traffic on safety and efficiency. The second and third situation of large difference was delayed or reduced availability of port services, and challenging weather conditions. Implications are that future development of ship-shore collaborative systems should specifically explore and address the issue of local ship traffic, and to find ways to integrate information about availability and timing of port services and of difficult weather situations.

The Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) at its 81st session decided to include, in the work programmes of the NAV and COMSAR Sub-Committees, a high priority item on "Development of an e–navigation strategy”. E-navigation is meant to integrate existing and new electronic navigational tools (ship and shore based) into one comprehensive system that will contribute to enhanced navigational safety and security while reducing the workload of the mariner (navigator). This paper describes present IT created to support navigational and administrative activities related to vessel movement and cargo transhipment. Direction of development of existing systems is drafted with reference to E-Navigation concept. Information sets available for the vessel in Polish Sea Areas are grouped.

Bursztyn jest kopaliną, która jest objęta prawem własności gruntowej. Wyjątek dotyczy złóż znajdujących się poza granicami nieruchomości gruntowych, w tym w obszarach morskich. Stanowią one przedmiot własności górniczej, która przysługuje Skarbowi Państwa. „Połów bursztynu” polega na zbieraniu bryłek bursztynu wypłukanego ze złóż podmorskich i znajdującego się pod wodą na niewielkiej głębokości obok linii brzegu. Przedmiotem prawa geologicznego o górniczego jest m.in. poszukiwanie (rozpoznawanie) oraz wydobywanie kopalin ze złóż. Wiele wskazuje na to, że opisane wyżej nagromadzenia bryłek bursztynu nie mogą być uważane za złoża w rozumieniu prawa geologicznego i górniczego. W konsekwencji ich „połów” nie będzie wymagał spełnienia przesłanek określonych wspomnianym prawem. Niejasny stan prawny powoduje natomiast, że ustalenie szczegółowych wymagań dotyczących omawianej działalności jest trudne.
Amber is a mineral covered by the land ownership right. The exception applies to deposits located outside the spatial borders of the land, including ones located within the borders of maritime areas. They are covered by mining ownership, vested in the State Treasury.„Amber fishing” consists in collecting amber nuggets washed out of submarine deposits and located under water at a small depth near the shoreline. The subject of Geological and Mining Act is, among others, prospecting for (exploration) and mining of minerals from deposits. There are many indications that the above-described amber nuggets cannot be considered as a deposit within the meaning of Geological and Mining Act. As a consequence, „fishing” them will not require fulfilment of the requirements set out in the aforementioned Act. However,the unclear legal situation means that it is difficult to determine detailedrequirements regarding the activity in question.

Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) is currently on the agenda in several countries and also in the IMO. In Norway a 120 TEU container feeder is being build and will start sailing autonomously in 2022. The challenge is huge. One question is whether or not the present, quantitative, collision regulations needs to be updated to rules where expressions as “early” and “substantial” are quantified? Or if ships can sail autonomously under the present rules? Another question is if MASS should be marked to signal that the ship is in autonomous mode? Or if it is enough that she follows COLREGS? This discussion paper will take a closer look at these questions and advocate automation transparency, meaning that the behavior of an autonomous vessel has to make sense and be understandable to human operators on other manned ships and crafts.

The article presents work organization in off-shore drilling. It shows the wide spectrum of work necessary for proper exploitation of undersea deposits. It also lists infrastructure elements used in this activity. It characterizes the marine environment as a factor in off-shore drilling.

The Orłowo Cliff is built of glacial and fluvioglacial deposits, Middle Polish Glaciations (possibly Odranian and Warthanian) and Vistulian Glaciation. Deposits are heavily deformed glaciotectonically. In the northern part of the cliff, Miocene sediments are exposed. It is possible, that the Miocene sediments were dislo-cated from their primary position. There were observed overthrusts and intermingling with Pleistocene material in the lower part of the exposure. The Orłowo Headland is built of glacial tills. It is probably a part of fold, similar in pattern to the structure of overthrust folds present in silty-sandy-grained deposits in the southern part of the cliff. Apart from folds and overthrusts there are many faults and the boudinage. Structural analysis of glaciotectonic deformations in conjunction with origin of deposits and statigraphic research enabled the recognition of several stages of development of deformations. Two local directions of glaciotectonic transport were marked clearly: from the north-east, which was connected with glacier invasion in the OEwiecie Stadial of the Vistulian Glaciation, and direction from north-west (north north-west), related to the Main Stadial of the Vistulian Glaciation.

В статье на материале стихотворного романа М. И. Воскресенского “Евгений Вельский” (1828–1832) прослеживается типология движения литературы «второго ряда» к освоению классической словесности – средствами пародии и подражания, с одной стороны, и лирической переработки материала – с другой. Развивается мысль о закономерности неоднозначной рецепции “Евгения Онегина” А. С. Пушкина в его «двойнике» – “Евгении Вельском” М. И. Воскресенского. Показано, что таким образом получает развитие концепция проф. Э. Малэк о «контрапунктном» движении литературы XVII–XVIII вв. «от пользы к забаве и утехе». «Разделение» писательских предпочтений на области «серьезной» и «развлекательной» словесности оказывается «затруднительным» в рамках процесса развития классики и беллетристики в их постоянном взаимодействии.
On the material of the novel in verse “Eugene Velsky” (1828 – 1832) by Mikhail Voskresensky the author of the paper traces the dynamics of how ‘second-rate’ literature assimilates the achievements of the classics – by means of parody and imitation on the one hand, and by lyrical processing of the material – on the other. The author puts forward the idea that the ambiguous reception of Pushkin’s “Eugene Onegin” in its ‘double’ “Eugene Velsky”, is a regular phenomenon. In his transposition of “Onegin” Voskresensky applied techniques of writing typical of the ‘easy reading’ literature, but he could not reconcile them with the universal humanist reflection which he also included. Aware of the imperfection of his poetic experiments, Voskresensky sought to support his endeavours with the authority of the great poet himself, by referring to the human right to leave behind an ‘inconspicuous trail’, mentioned in “Onegin”. Thus, the case in hand corroborates Eliza Małek’s thesis about the ‘counterpoint’ character of the development of literature, ‘from the beneficial to the amusement and fun.’ The differentiation in writers’ preferences between the fields of ‘serious’ and ‘entertaining’ literature proves ‘difficult’ within the framework of the dual process of the development of the classics and low-brow fiction in their constant interaction.
