EUPOS (European Position Determination System) is a new European initiative of establishment of the multifunctional reference station system in Central and Eastern European countries. The Project EUPOS was initiated in 2002 by the Berlin Senate Department for Urban Development and European Academy of the Urban Development Berlin. The project consisted previously in establishment of multifunctional satellite reference stations in Central and Eastern Europe, but lately also some Asian countries request to join the EUPOS Project and to be admitted to EUPOS ISC as EUPOS members. Number of member countries is steadily increasing. In 2008 Moldova was intended to participate in the project and at the last conference in Tallinn in April 2009 at the EUPOS International Steering Committee Kazakhstan was admitted as the EUPOS country. So, EUPOS network will contain more than 1000 stations in the area of 19 European and Eurasian countries. Currently 19 following countries are the members of the EUPOS Project: Bosnia and Herzegovina Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine. The number of planned stations in particular countries are given in attached table. One common project standard set is observed by all countries, however the project will include the existing or developed infrastructure in participating countries. Experiences of all participating countries in establishing and operating satellite systems will also be used. The system will be compatible with the German network SAPOS and in future will use as main signal the signal of the European system Galileo. The network of reference stations will provide services for both positioning of the geodetic control points and for navigation. Several levels of services of positioning accuracy will be offered.

Opis:
The dilution of precision (DOP) in satellite navigation system provides a simple characterization of the user-satellite geometry and a quantitative assessment of the positioning constellation configuration. The essential idea of physical augmentation factor of precision (PAFP) proposed in this work, is that navigation signals are transmitted at multiple frequencies from each visible satellite in the positioning constellation, while users measure the corresponding multiple pseudoranges of satellites to achieve high precision code positioning. As the multiple pseudoranges of one satellite are measured independently by the corresponding navigation signals at different frequencies, it is reasonable to treat the measurement errors due to the satellite clock and ephemeris, the atmospheric propagation as uncorrelated, random, and identically distributed. The multipath effects and receiver noise are also processed with some empirical models. By measuring user-satellite code pseudoranges at different frequencies, the PAFP offers a scheme that produces the same effect as that of the redundant-overlapping constellation, thus equivalently improving the geometric DOP. It can effectively improve code positioning precision of satellite navigation system.

This paper presents ideas for creating and developing Interactive Navigational Structures (IANS) by using satellite systems. The author of the present paper introduced the concept of IANS into the literature in 2004 (Czaplewski, 2004). The paper presents the possibility of adapting the contemporary methods of robust estimation that are used in geodesy for the purpose of performing selected marine navigation tasks. IANS utilise modern M-estimation methods. Interactive structures can assist human beings in carrying out special tasks at sea, for example, in identifying objects at sea and on land without the need to approach them. Moreover, these structures can also be used in the process of navigation carried out by underwater vehicles or unmanned watercraft. This paper presents the mathematical methods that are essential for creating IANS. The theoretical assumptions are illustrated with an example of how IANS can be used while performing a typical navigation task. The paper closes with information about research studies which deal with the practical aspects of using this set of mathematical methods.

Opis:
The methods of automatic pilotage along a guided path are well known in the practice of navigation. However these methods have a number of drawbacks, which reduce the effectiveness of their application. It is especially important for river-sea vessel in poor visibility. Because of the large inertia of the vessel and its hydrodynamic properties that are changed by external influences, the process has unstable oscillatory nature. Therefore the vessel moves not in a straight line, but on a winding curve having the general direction that corresponds to the specified value. In this paper new method of coastal navigation with invented new devices supported with satellite navigation receiver is presented.

Opis:
The rapid development of satellite navigation and timing technologies and the broad availability of user equipment and applications has dramatically changed the world over the last 20 years. It took 38 years from the launch of the world’s first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1, (October 4, 1957) to the day NAVSTAR GPS became fully operational (July 17, 1995). In the next 20 years user equipment became widely available at the consumer level, and 10 global and regional satellite systems were partially or fully deployed. These highly precise signals provided free to the user have been incorporated by clever engineers into virtually every technology. At the same time interference with these signals (spoofing and jamming) have become a significant day to day problem in many societies and pose a significant threat to critical infrastructure. This paper provides information on the current status and development of navigation satellite systems based on data provided by the systems' administrators. It also provides information on Loran/eLoran, a system which many nations have selected as a complement and backup for satellite navigation systems.

This paper discusses the current and new satellite transponders for global tracking and detecting of oceangoing ships, assets, crew, passengers and any moving objects at sea for enhanced vessels traffic control and management. These transponders are able to monitor all maritime assets and to improve safety, security of movements and collision avoidance, especially during very bad weather conditions and visibility. By deployment of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) in integration with Inmarsat, Iridium and other satellite systems in one unit with antenna, it is possible to provide reliable positioning and tracking solutions for civilian maritime, other mobiles and personnel at different Radio Frequency (RF) bands. The existing and forthcoming space and ground segment for positioning and tracking solutions as a modern Satellite Asset Tracking (SAT) onboard ships, and other relating systems are discussed and benefits of these new technologies and solution for improved positioning and tracking are explored.

Each year, global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) improve their accuracy, availability, continuity, integrity, and reliability. Due to these continual improvements, the systems are increasingly used in various modes of transport, including rail transport, the subject of this publication. GNSS are used for rail passenger information, rail traffic management, and rail traffic control. These applications differ in the positioning requirements that satellite navigation systems must meet. This article presents the methods and systems of rolling stock location and tracking using the Polish State Railways (PKP) as an example. The information on the equipment used for train positioning is not specified anywhere, hence they may differ, even for the same multiple units travelling in different parts of the country. In addition, the publication presents the progress of the European Train Control System (ETCS) implementation by the PKP.

Korean WA‐DGNSS is a large scale research project funded by Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs Korea. It aims to augment the Global Navigation Satellite System by broadcasting additional signals from geostationary satellites and providing differential correction messages and integrity data for the GNSS satellites. The project is being carried out by a consortium of universities and research institutes. The research team at Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute is involved in design and development of data processing softwares for wide area reference station and user segment. This paper focuses on user segment software design. Korean WA‐DGNSS user segment software is designed to perform several functions such as calculation of pseudorange, ionosphere and troposphere delays, application of fast and slow correction messages, and data verification. It is based on a layered architecture that provides a model to develop flexible and reusable software and is divided into several independent, interchangeable and reusable components to reduce complexity and maintenance cost. The current version is designed to collect and process GPS and WADGNSS data however it is flexible to accommodate future GNSS systems such as GLONASS and Galileo.

Opis:
Nowadays, it is a fact that Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) have become the primary means of obtaining Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) information at sea. Most of the ships in the world are equipped with GNSS receivers. And currently these users take advantage of different augmentation systems such as DGNSS or SBAS/EGNOS, as they provide an adequate answer, especially in terms of accuracy and integrity. To take advantage of this improved accuracy, direct access to EGNOS in vessels can be achieved through EGNOS-enabled navigation receivers and EGNOS-enabled AIS transponders. Therefore, the natural question is: Are those GNSS receivers SBAS (EGNOS) enabled? In most cases they are; SBAS is being used. This paper provides an analysis of the number of onboard devices, mainly devoted to navigation purposes and AIS transponders, which are SBAS compatible.

In meanwhile the EGNOS Signal in Space is provided almost in its nominal level and delivering, when available, the nominal system performance. New positioning technologies, such as EGNOS in Europe, create a new quality in marine navigation and bring further improvement of the maritime transport safety. It may be expected that very soon EGNOS will find significant interest among the maritime community serving as the augmentation system in the maritime transport applications of GNSS. The paper discusses the EGNOS status and the expected EGNOS performance in the context of marine navigation requirements. The system performance analysis is backed with the study of the various field tests results where the EGNOS positioning performance was verified by author in the experimental way.

Opis:
Since few years the significance of the navigation at high latitudes (60° and more), increases incessantly, e.g. northern passages between Atlantic and Pacific Waters. In these regions the user’s position can be obtained mainly from global satellite navigation systems (SNS). Nowadays (September 2016) two systems, American GPS and Russian GLONASS, are fully operational, two next, Galileo in Europe and BeiDou in China, are under construction. As the error of user’s position obtained from these systems depends on geometry factor DOP (Dilution Of Precision) among other things the knowledge of the number of satellites visible by this user above given masking elevation angle Hmin and the distributions of DOP coefficient values, GDOP in particular, is very important. The lowest and the greatest number of satellites visible in open area by the user at high latitudes for different Hmin, the percentage of satellites visible above angle H, distributions of satellites azimuths and GDOP coefficient values for different Hmin for all these four SNSs at different user’s latitudes (beginning from 60°) and other distributions are presented in the paper. All calculations were made for constellation of BeiDou 27 MEO satellites, Galileo 24 satellites, GLONASS 24 and GPS 31 satellites.

ASG-EUPOS is Polish GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) Ground Based Augmentation System. The name stands for Active Geodetic Network European Position Determination System. It is multifunctional system of precise positioning consisting of more than 100 GNSS reference stations, which constitutes densification of global IGS (International GNSS Service) and regional EPN (European Permanent Network) GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) networks. Data collected on those stations are reference for many surveys (real time or postprocessing corrections - differential technology). ASGEUPOS will fulfill a role of main national geodetic frame and will enable conservation of ETRF (European Terrestrial Reference Frame) in Poland. That is one of the reasons why the system activity has to be monitored and controlled.

There are many manufacturers on the market offering various types of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). The multitude of drones available on the market means that the choice of a UAV for a specific application appears to be a decision problem to be solved. The aim of this article is a comparative analysis of drones used in photogrammetric surveys. The criteria for evaluating the UAVs were: availability and product support, payload (min. 5 kg), price (PLN 100,000), as well as space available for measurement modules. These are the requirements that must be met for the implementation of the INNOBAT project, the aim of which is to develop an integrated system using autonomous unmanned aerial and surface vehicles, intended for bathymetric monitoring in the coastal zone. The comparative analysis of drones was based on 27 companies producing UAV. Based on the analysis, 6 drones that met the project requirements were selected. They were: Aurelia X6 Pro, Aurelia X8 Standard LE, DroneHexa AG, FOX-C8 XT, Hercules 10 and Zoe X4. Selected UAVs differ from each other, among others, in the number of rotors, flight duration and resistance to weather conditions. Individual characteristics of drones may have a different rank depending on their application, therefore the selection of UAVs should be made after prioritisation criteria of a given project.

Opis:
The work is an announcement on the current state of the research project implementation. The study presents the results of an analysis of the project’s research area. On this basis, the two-stage micro-satellite launch system was selected. The system, a space-kit is based on an adopted combat aircraft carrying a satellite-laden rocket that is fired at the maximum altitude. As a potential transport platform, two withdrawn supersonic aircraft were selected: the MiG-29 and the Su-22. A dedicated mission-laden rocket is to be carried under the fuselage. Preliminary analyses have shown that the aircraft indicated with the proposed mission profile will successfully carry out the task of launching a hypothetical rocket with a payload of at least 10 kg into low earth orbit. This confirmed the merits of the basic thesis of the research project. For the analysis of the aeromechanical properties of the kit, both 3D digital models for computer simulations and physical models scaled for tunnel tests were developed. Laser scanners were used to map aircraft geometry, and measurements were made on Su-22 and MiG-29 aircraft in the aviation laboratory of the Military University of Technology. Using three-dimensional scaled models generated in a CAD environment, physical solid models were printed for wind tunnel investigations. Preliminary computer simulations conducted in the ANSYS Fluent system did not point out any negative impact of the rocket on aerodynamic characteristics and stability of the both carrier aircraft.
Praca jest komunikatem dotyczącym stanu realizacji projektu badawczego. W opracowaniu zaprezentowano wyniki analizy obszaru badawczego projektu. Potwierdziło to zasadność podstawowej tezy projektu badawczego.

The idea of C/A codes GPS/GNSS Spoofing (Substitution), or the ability to mislead a satellite navigation receiver into establishing a position or time fix which is incorrect, has been gaining attention as spoofing has become more sophisticated. Various techniques have been proposed to detect if a receiver is being spoofed – with varying degrees of success and computational complexity. If the jammer signals are sufficiently plausible then the GNSS receiver may not realize it has been duped. There are various means of detecting spoofing activity and hence providing effective mitigation methods. In this paper, a novel signal processing method applicable to a single antenna handset receiver for spoofing detection has been described. Mathematical models and algorithms have been developed to solve the problems of satellite navigation safety. What has been considered in the paper is a spoofing detection algorithm based on the analysis of a civil satellite signal generated by mobile C/A GPS/GNSS single-antenna receivers. The work has also served to refine the civilian spoofing threat assessment by demonstrating the challenges involved in mounting a spoofing attack.

Opis:
New shipping routes are emerging as a result of iceberg melting in polar regions, allowing for more efficient transport of people and goods. Opening of the Northwest Passage, the maritime route connecting Pacific Ocean with Atlantic Ocean through Arctic region, is considered such a development. The increasing transport exploitation of the Northwest Passage requires the quality assessment of maritime navigation aids for compliance with the established requirements. Here we contribute to the subject with addressing the polar commercial-grade GPS positioning performance in the Northwest Passage in the extreme positioning environment conditions during the massive 2003 space weather storm, a space weather event similar to the Carrington Storm of 1859, the largest space weather event recorded. The GPS positioning environment in the Northwest Passage during the Carrington-like storm in 2003 was reconstructed through the GNSS SDR receiver-post processing of the experimental GPS observations. The raw GPS dual-frequency pseudoranges and navigation messages were collected at the International GNSS Service (IGS) reference station at Ulukhaktok, Victoria Island, Canada. Pseudorange processing and GPS position estimation were performed in three scenarios of pre-mitigation of the ionospheric effects, known as the single major contributor GPS positioning error: (i) no corrections applied, (ii) Klobuchar-based corrected GPS positioning, and (iii) dual-frequency corrected GPS positioning. Resulting GPS positioning error vectors were derived as positioning error residuals from the known reference station position. Statistical properties of the northing, easting, and vertical components of the GPS positioning error vector were analyzed with a software developed in the R environment for statistical computing to select suitable methods for the GPS positioning error prediction model development. The analysis also identified the most suitable theoretical fit for experimental statistical distributions to assist the model development. Finally, two competitive GPS positioning error prediction models were developed, based on the exponential smoothing (reference) and the generalized regression neural networks (GRNN) (alternative) methods. Their properties were assessed to recommend their use as mitigation methods for adverse massive space weather effects in polar regions.

This article presents an analysis of the Galileo E1 signal and its sensitivity to different types of interference. The research involved modeling white noise, chaotic impulse interference, and narrowband interference and the effects of these interfering signals on the E1 signal. Based on the available information, spectral structures were created for the mentioned types of interference, and subsequently, these interferences were integrated into the E1 signal in the Matlab program environment. A Kallman filter was used to filter out white noise from the additive mixture of the E1 signal and white noise. The research aimed to analyze the influence of white noise, chaotic impulse interference, and narrowband interference on the spectral power density of the E1 signal. The results of this work can be used in the design of robust receivers and signal structures capable of withstanding these types of interference.

Opis:
At the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSSs) dominated navigation in air, sea, and land. Then, medium-range and long-range terrestrial navigation systems (TNSs) ceased to be developed. However, with the development of GNSS jamming and spoofing techniques, the TNSs are being re-developed, such as the Enhanced Loran. The Polish Ministry of Defense plans to develop and implement a medium-range backup navigation system for the Polish Navy which will operate in the Baltic coastal zone. This plan is a part of the global trend. This paper presents the concept of a reserve TNS (RNS) that is based on the signal Doppler frequency (SDF) location method. In 2016, the concept of the RNS, which is based on stationary radio beacons located on coastal lighthouses, has been presented. From the military viewpoint, the use of the mobile radio beacons, which may change their location, is more justified. Therefore, the paper presents an idea of using the mobile beacons for this purpose. In this paper, effectiveness of the mobile RNS is shown based on simulation studies.

The article describes the design of a Satellite Observation System (SOS) which assists drivers in their travel (in real time). The system allows the driver to receive a top-down view (in the respective scale) covering a large area around their vehicle. Using the GPS and the GSM system as well as images from a satellite - thanks to the SOS, the driver will be provided with a valuable tool assisting them in driving e.g. when: overtaking in heavy field conditions, identification of the road or facilities, setting a more optimal route (bypassing traffic jams) etc.. The principle of operation is based on respectively located satellites which take very high-resolution pictures of the Earth's surface in real time. These pictures are sent via the GSM (or a different) system to the receiver of the SOS system on the ground -a SOS station - which projects GPS coordinates on them. In order to receive the image with the area of the road ahead (or around the vehicle), the driver in a vehicle turns on their SOS system which sends the vehicle's GPS coordinates to the SOS station. The SOS station processes the picture received from the satellite, preparing only a small section of it which corresponds to the area around the GPS coordinates - the vehicle's position. This section is then sent to the SOS system inside the vehicle, which, in turn, displays it on an LCD screen. This cycle repeats so rapidly that the driver may be under an impression that he/she watches the image from the camera placed over the vehicle. The SOS system will contribute to the increase in road safety and the maneuver of overtaking in difficult field conditions will become less risky. The SOS system will also allow the emergency services and the police to promptly locate and identify any road accidents.

The determination of the height in the vertical reference frame in force in Poland is based both on national regulations (Council of Ministers Regulation, 2012) and on the resolution adopted by the EUREF subcommittee in Tromsø (Resolution No. 5, EUREF Symposium, 2000). Currently, the PL-KRON86-NH vertical reference frame is in use in Poland – a normal height system referred to a quasi-geoid of the average level of the Baltic Sea determined by the zero level of the mareograph in Kronstadt. According to the Regulation, by the end of 2019, Poland will adopt the PL-EVRF2007-NH vertical reference frame, i.e. a normal height system referred to the zero level of the mareograph in Amsterdam. The authors present a method of determining normal heights of seabed referred to the zero level of the mareograph in Amsterdam for coastal areas of the Baltic Sea. This method uses GNSS measurements, the EGM 2008 model and depth measuring methods typical for underwater mining.

Opis:
For nearly the entire post-World War II period, naval and air navigation relied primarily on ground-based radionavigation systems. However, the spontaneous development of satellite systems gradually led to their disappearance. They are currently used partly in air operations and marginally in maritime navigation in some areas around Asia, in Russia and in the Middle East. However, at the beginning of the 21st century, the threat of effective interference with satellite systems began to be raised, which led to an increased interest in restoring or upgrading ground-based systems as backup systems in the Western world. In this context, the approach of Russia is interesting, as it is associated with the vast majority of deliberate GPS interference. There are reports in the world literature that various ground-based radionavigation systems operating in Russia are still observed. The article analyses, on the basis of the few available sources, information on the ALFA system, about which the least is known, and there are many indications that it is ready for use.

Opis:
At the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, development of microelectronics and microwave techniques allowed for minimization of electronic devices and systems, and the use of microwave frequency bands for modern radio communication systems. On the other hand, the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) have contributed to the popularization of radio navigation in civilian applications. These factors had a direct impact on the development and dissemination of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). In the initial period, the UAVs were used mainly for the army needs. This results also from the legal aspects of the UAV use in the airspace. Currently, commercial UAVs for civilian applications, such as image recognition, monitoring, transport, etc., are presented increasingly. Generally, the GNSS system accuracy for the UAV positioning during a flight is enough. However, the GNSS use for automatic takeoff and landing may be insufficient. The extensive, ground-based navigation support systems used at airports by manned aircraft testify to these. In the UAV case, such systems are not used due to their complexity and price. For this reason, the novel dedicated take-off and landing systems are developed. The proposal of the autonomous landing system, which is based on the Doppler effect, was presented in 2017. In this case, the square-based beacon configuration was analyzed. This paper shows the influence of various beacon configurations in the Doppler-based landing system on the positioning error during the UAV landing approach.

Transport and logistics in XXI century relies on the several technical systems for assuring safe and reliable operations. One of widely used systems are satellite positioning systems, used to monitoring transport means and cargo itself. Reliability of the whole transport chain is often combined with singular reliability of satellite monitoring system. Possible threats to precise positioning of any vehicle is GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) deliberate interference. So called spoofing interference can mislead receiver in transport objective for reporting entirely wrong position and timing. To fight with this phenomena’s antispoofing techniques are developed. This paper will provide a review of late researches in field of GNSS anti-spoofing on the side of receiver. GNSS receiver vulnerabilities for a spoofer (device) attack will be presented as well as anti-spoofing algorithms. Possible limitation, costs as well as countermeasures methods will be shown thoroughly. Some of recent trends in anti-spoofing techniques in the world will be outlined up to date.

Gaining information on one’s position using GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems), particularly in unknown urban environments, had become an everyday activity. With the widespread of mobile devices, particularly smartphones, each person can obtain information considering his or her location anytime and everywhere. This paper is focused on a study, considering the quality of satellite communication in case of selected mobile terminals. It describes a measurement campaign carried out in varying urban environments, including a set of Android-powered smartphones coming from different manufacturers. Based on this, respective conclusions and remarks are given, which can aid consumers as well as device manufacturers and application developers.

Opis:
Spatial segment is one of three segments of each satellite navigation systems (SNS). Nowadays two SNSs, GPS and GLONASS, are fully operational, two next SNSs, BeiDou in China and Galileo in Europe, are in final phase of the construction. In the case of China system this segment will consist of 35 satellites with three types of orbits ? medium (MEO), geostationary (GEO) and inclined geosynchronous (IGSO). As GEO and IGSO satellites can be used in China and Asia-Pacific region only, BeiDou MEO constellation with 27 fully operational satellites will be taken into account in this paper. The orbital planes of the Galileo constellation will be divided in “slots” that contains at least one operational satellite. The Galileo reference constellation has 24 nominal orbital positions or operational slots in MEO homogeneously distributed in 3 orbital planes; i.e. 8 slots equally spaced per plane. As the error of user’s position obtained from both systems depends on geometry factor DOP (Dilution Of Precision) among other things the knowledge of the number of satellites visible by the user above given masking elevation angle Hmin and the distributions of DOP coefficient values, GDOP in particular, is very important. The lowest and the greatest number of satellites visible in open area by the observer at different latitudes for different Hmin, the percentage of satellites visible above angle H, distributions (in per cent) of satellites azimuths and GDOP coefficient values for different Hmin for BeiDou and Galileo systems at different latitudes are presented in the paper.

Opis:
Geodetic network GNSS receivers are more commonly associated with positioning systems used in maritime hydrography. In terms of positioning accuracy when no terrain obstacles are present, they meet international hydrographic surveys standards (S‐44) fully. Those standards are defined as 1m (0.95) for Exclusive Order and 2m (0.95) for Special Order. It is equally as important to ensure access to position which error is not higher than above mentioned maximum values. This is most often determined by the density of port infrastructure. This article presents the results of analysis of availability of hydrographic system that operates based on geodetic GNSS networks. Hydrographic surveys in question were undertaken in inner basins with diverse infrastructure. Three representative types of ports were selected for this reason: fishing type (Hel), medium sized, modern commercial type (Gdynia) and highly congested, narrow canal type (Gdansk – Motlawa). A nonpublic, geodetic GNSS network was used for all surveys. It is worth mentioning that the above network is at the moment the only available network that provides both GPS and GLONASS corrections. The surveys provided evidence that geodetic GNSS networks can be successfully utilised to determine position of hydrographic vessel in low and moderately developed ports as well as in Exclusive and Special Orders. In highly congested ports however, the availability of the above mentioned method of measurement can be insufficient to realise a survey.

In this paper, authors present results of accuracy verification of the Trimble RTX technology. The GNSS receiver Spectra Precision SP60 was used in Cyprus (Kato Paphos Archaeological Park). To evaluate the accuracy of the receiver, two measuring test networks (consisting of 30 and 55 control points) were established. All points were determined in four measuring cycles. Additionally, in order to make more advanced analysis of the data, the bases were also measured by using another GNSS receiver - Geomax-Zenith 25. The point positions, in this case, were conducted in the local coordinate system of Kato Paphos Archaeological Park by using RTK positioning technology. To make a comparison, it was necessary to transform the coordinates based on different groups of fitting points. Analysis allowed to conclude that the Spectra Precision SP60 receiver and the RTX Trimble technology guarantee repeatable results (on the level of 4 cm) of point positioning measurements.

The understanding of the ionospheric effects on GNSS positioning performance forms an essential pre-requisite for resilient GNSS development. Here we present the results of a study of the effects of a fast-developing space weather disturbance on the positioning performance of a commercial-grade GPS+GLONASS receiver. Using experimentally collected pseudoranges and the RTKLIB, an open-source software-defined GNSS radio receiver operating in the simulation mode, we assessed GNSS positioning performance degradations for various modes of GNSS SDR receiver operation, and identified the benefits of utilisation of multi-GNSS and ionospheric error correction techniques.

Consequences of Delays
Ionospheric Delay
satellite based augmentation system (SBAS)
Opis:
In SBAS (satellite‐based augmentation system), it is important to estimate ionospheric delay accurately to guarantee userʹs accuracy and integrity. Grid based ionospheric models are generally used to estimate ionospheric delay for SBAS. In grid based model, SBAS broadcasts vertical ionospheric delays at the grid point, and users get their ionospheric delay by interpolating those values. Ionospheric model based on spherical harmonics function is another method to estimate ionospheric delay. This is a function based approach and spherical harmonics function is a 2‐D fourier series, containing the product of latitude dependent associated Legendre functions and the sum of the longitude dependent sine and cosine terms. Using ionospheric delay measurements, coefficients for each spherical harmonics functions are estimated. If these coefficients are known, user can reconstruct ionospheric delay. In this paper, we consider the spherical harmonics based model and propose a ionospheric delay estimation strategy for SBAS that can be used to mitigate ionospheric delay estimation error, especially in storm condition. First, coefficients are estimated under initial order and degree. Then residual errors for each measurement are modeled by higher order and degree terms, then coefficients for these terms are estimated. Because SBAS message capacity is limited, in normal condition, initial order terms are only used to estimate ionospheric delay. If ionospheric storm is detected and there is need to mitigate the error, higher order terms are also used and error can be decreased. To compare the accuracy of spherical harmonics based model with grid based model, some post‐processing test results are presented. Raw observation data is obtained from RINEX format and the root mean square(RMS) and max value of residual errors are presented.

Nowadays on the ship’s bridge two or even more GPS receivers are installed. As in the major cases the coordinates of the position obtained from these receivers differ the following questions can be posed – what is the cause of this divergence, which receiver in the first must be taken into account etc. Based on information published in annual GPS and GNSS receiver survey it was estimated the percentage of GPS receivers designed for marine and/or navigation users. The measurements of GPS position based on the four different stationary GPS receivers were realized in the laboratory of Gdynia Maritime University in Poland in the summer 2012. The coordinates of the position of all these receivers were registered at the same time. The measurements in mode 3D were made for different input data, the same for all receivers. The distances between the individual unit’s antenna were considered also. Next measurements in mode 3D also were realized on two ships in different European ports. Additional measurements were made in mode 2D with three receivers for different their’s antenna heights. The results showed that the GPS position accuracy depends on the type of the receiver and its technical parameters particularly.

Small autonomous surface vehicles (ASV) will need both teleoperation support and redundant positioning technology to comply with expected future regulations. When at sea, they are limited by a satellite communication link with low throughput. We have designed and implemented a graphical user interface (GUI) for teleoperation using a communication link with low throughput, and one positioning system, independent of the Global Positioning System (GPS), supported by the teleoperation tool. We conducted a user study (N=16), using real-world data from a field trial, to validate our approach, and to compare two variants of the graphical user interface (GUI). The users experienced that the tool gives a good overview, and despite the connection with the low throughput, they managed through the GUI to significantly improve the positioning accuracy.

Opis:
Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are increasingly used as the main source of Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) information for inland water navigation. In order to enable automated driving and facilitate driver assistant functions, it becomes of crucial importance to ensure high reliability and accuracy of the GNSS-based navigation solution, especially in challenging environments. One challenging phase of inland waterway navigation is bridge passing which leads to non-line-of-sight (NLOS) effects such as multipath and loss of tracking. This work presents a Precise Point Positioning (PPP) based algorithm in a two-antenna system where one antenna is at the bow and the other is at the stern. Additionally, gyroscope data from an IMU is used. In contrast to a separated position calculation of the two antennas, only one antenna position is estimated and the other is derived from the baseline between the antennas. This allows for accurate positioning even if one antenna does not receive any GNSS measurements. The presented scheme is evaluated using real measurement data from an inland water scenario with multiple bridges. In comparison with a standard PPP scheme as well as an RTK algorithm, the presented approach shows clear advantages in challenging scenarios.

A number of public codes exist for GPS positioning and baseline determination in off-line mode. However, no software code exists for DGPS exploiting correction factors at base stations, without relying on double difference information. In order to accomplish it, a methodology is introduced in MATLAB environment for DGPS using C/A pseudoranges on single frequency L1 only to make it feasible for low-cost GPS receivers. Our base station is at accurately surveyed reference point. Pseudoranges and geometric ranges are compared at base station to compute the correction factors. These correction factors are then handed over to rover for all valid satellites observed during an epoch. The rover takes it into account for its own true position determination for corresponding epoch. In order to validate the proposed algorithm, our rover is also placed at a pre-determined location. The proposed code is an appropriate and simple to use tool for post-processing of GPS raw data for accurate position determination of a rover e.g. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle during post-mission analysis.

The operating zone of a radio navigation system is one of its main operating features. It determines the size of a water body in which the system can be used, while guaranteeing vessels’ navigation safety. The DGPS system in the LF/MF range is now the basic positioning system in coastal waters around the world, which guarantees not only metre positioning accuracy, but it is also the only one to provide navigators with signals on positioning reliability. This paper describes and summarises over twenty years of studies dealing with the operating zone of the Polish DGPS reference station network. This paper is the fifth in a series of publications whose aim was to present in detail the process of installation, testing and long-term evaluation of the navigational parameters of the Polish DGPS system, launched in 1995. This paper includes the theoretical foundations of determination of the Dziwnów and Rozewie DGPS reference station operating zones in the years 1995-2018. Moreover, it presents the measurement results for the signal levels and the results of their analyses, which determine the station operating zones.

In order to show the different distributions of these two parameters in different continents the world was divided into six regions (European Union, Russia and Europe without European Union, North America, Asia‒Pacific, Middle East and Africa, South America and Caribbean). The distributions of installed base of GNSS device and total revenue of GNSS devices sales by region and application in selected years for all four modes of transport (area, maritime, rail and road) are presented. In these analysis new and emerging GNSS trends by all these modes and the population numbers in each region was taken into account also.

The object of the study is the processing of space images on the territory of the Carpathian territory in the Lviv region, obtained from the Landsat-8 satellite. The work aims to determine the area of deforestation in the Carpathian territory of the Lviv region from different time-space images obtained from the Landsat-8 satellite. Methods of cartography, photogrammetry, aerospace remote sensing of the Earth and GIS technology were used in the experimental research. The work was performed in Erdas Imagine software using the unsupervised image classification module and the DeltaCue difference detection module. The results of the work are classified as three images of Landsat-8 on the territory of the Carpathian territory in the Lviv region. The areas of forest cover for each of them for the period of 2016-2018 have been determined. During the three years, the area of forests has decreased by 14 hectares. Our proposed workflow includes six stages: analysis of input data, band composition of space images on the research territory, implementation of unsupervised classification in Erdas Imagine software and selection of forest class and determination of implementing this workflow, the vector layers of the forest cover of the Carpathians in the Lviv region for 2016, 2017, 2018 were obtained, and on their basis, the corresponding areas were calculated and compared.

More than half of the incidents reported to EMSA relate to nautical events such as collision, groundings and contacts. Knowledge of accurate and high-integrity positioning is therefore not only a need for future automated shipping but a base for today’s safe navigation. Examples on accidents include Ever Given in the Suez Canal and HNoMS Helge Ingstad in Norway. A Network-RTK (NRTK) service can be used as an augmentation technique to improve performance of shipborne GNSS receivers for future positioning of manned and unmanned vessels in restricted areas, such as port areas, fairways, and inland water ways. NRTK service providers generate RTK corrections based on the observations of networks of GNSS reference stations which enables the users to determine their position with centimeter accuracy in real-time using a shipborne GNSS receiver. Selection of appropriate communication channels for dissemination of NRTK corrections data is the key to a secure positioning (localization) service. In PrePare-Ships project, the modern maritime communication system VDES (VHF Data Exchange System) is proposed to distribute SWEPOS (NRTK in Sweden) correction data to shipborne positioning modules. VDES is a very reliable technique and it is compatible with most onboard functionalities. In order to minimize the impact on the overall VDES data capacity in a local area, NRTK correction data shall only occupy a single VDES slot with a net capacity of 650 bytes. Update rates may vary but are preferably at 1Hz. However, NRTK correction data size changes instantly, depending on the number of visible GNSS satellites, and the data rate can therefore sometimes reach in excess of 1000 byte/s. In this study, a smart technique is proposed to reduce size of NRTK correction data to instantly adapt with the VDES requirements by choosing a combination of specific signals, satellites or even constellations such that the data rate is not more than 650 byte/s, and at the same time it achieves optimal positioning performance with the accuracy required by the PrePare-Ships project application.

System The GNSS positioning and navigation have a significant impact on daily life. One of the main problems of modern navigation both manned and unmanned transport systems is a problem of transport safety. To improve the accuracy of positioning of transport used DGNSS technology – Differential GNSS, which is based on setting a fixed base station with a known geodetic position XY. In this article we consider the principles of MDGNSS architecture – Mobile Differential GNSS, in which a base station uses a conventional laptop, defining your location XY accurately, through statistical analysis of its positioning results for several tens of minutes.

This paper describes various methods of flying object positioning with the emphasis on their accuracy. Based on the accomplished analysis, we will select the most appropriate method to determine the position of a flying object for relative navigation purposes. The primary criterion for choosing a positioning method is the accuracy of distance measurement within users working in the aviation communications network. The results presented in the paper have been based on mathematical modelling and computer simulation performed in the Matlab programming environment. The results obtained can be used to navigate flying or non-flying objects that work in the air communications network.

GNSS positioning performance assessment is essential for sustainable development of a growing number of GNSS-based technology and socio-economic applications. Case-studies of GNSS positioning performance in critical environments and applications scenarios reveals vulnerabilities of the GNSS Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) services, and suggest mitigation techniques and GNSS application risk containment. Here we address the case of GPS positioning performance during a devastating tropical cyclone Marcus that hit the greater area of the city of Darwin, Australia in 2018. We identified specific statistical properties of time series of tropospheric contribution to GPS northing, easting, and vertical positioning error that may contribute to understanding of tropospheric effects on GPS positioning performance during a massive weather deterioration in maritime and coastal areas, and analysed their adversarial effects on GNSS-based maritime applications.

The aim of this paper was to describe the random phase of the E6 signal, the Galileo satellite navigation system. Based on the available information, mathematical models of the measurement signals of the Galileo system were created. The frequencies of individual signals were determined and their structure visualized. A block diagram of the generation of individual signals is also shown. The main contribution of the paper is the creation of a random phase model of the E6 signal from the Galileo system. In accordance with the technical data of the Galileo system, the parameters of the random phase model were determined. The simulation results confirmed that the frequency instability of the continuous signal E6 n received from the satellite is a stationary process. The short-term stability of the frequency ranges from 10-13 to 10-14. The simulation results confirmed that the Doppler effect significantly affects the random phase of the E6 signal. This phenomenon can affect the results of navigation measurements using the E6 signal. The modeling and simulation results of the random phase of the E6 signal presented in the paper can be used to evaluate the immunity of the Galileo navigation system to interference.

Opis:
Space weather effects are generally recognized as causes of degradation of satellite positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) services. We analyze GPS position estimation error during a geomagnetic storm, focusing on manifestations of geomagnetic processes. The position estimation error was analyzed in terms of GPS coordinates’ deviations (latitude, longitude and height) from their reference values. The storm’s impact was studied in the Northern Adriatic region where GPS observables from two Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) reference stations were analysed. Geomagnetic indices were elaborated, comprising readings from interplanetary, magnetospheric and geomagnetic observatories. Total Electron Content (TEC) on both stations was computed using dual frequency GPS pseudorange observables. The experiment was to reconstruct the movement of geomagnetic disturbances entering the geospace, reaching the earth’s surface. The aim was to correlate possible space weather manifestation on satellite positioning performance in terms of positioning error. Regularities in changes in positioning deviations were identified with relation to influential indices. The research offered a possibility of experimental positioning deviations assessment as well as forecasting. Evaluation of generated rudimentary Classification and Regression Trees (CART) models showed that the risk of satellite positioning errors could be assessed and predicted considering absolutes, as well as changes in values of geomagnetic indices. During the research process, several activities emerged as preferable continuation of the work, with the aim of further development of predictive models and the complement of space weather scenarios and their consequences on navigational systems. Along with summarized results, they are outlined in the conclusion section.

Opis:
A lightering operation is a type of Ship-To-Ship (STS) operation where two ships are together in open waters and transfer the cargo e.g. crude oil, LNG. High skills and experience are required by the human operators as no relevant equipment for determining the relative speeds and distances with sufficient accuracies has been implemented. The officer in charge of an STS lightering takes the decision on adequate maneuvering orders based on predominantly visual observations during the final approach. Landing on all fenders simultaneously is an objective in order to minimize ship-fender contact forces, but this is rather difficult to achieve in practice even in calm sea due to the effect of hydrodynamic interaction when the ships are closing in. Furthermore, currents that are present in the lightering zone add to the operational complexity. A field measurement experiment has been carried out with a Velocity Information GPS (VI-GPS) system installed onboard a ferry approaching port for berthing which is similar to an STS lightering. The paper proposes to apply VI-GPS as input sensor to a decision-support and guidance system aiming to provide accurate velocity information to the officer in charge of an STS operation. It is argued that DOP of VI-GPS is related to the velocity error.

GNSS spoofing is an intentional and malicious action aimed at degrading and suppressing GNSS Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) services. Since it affects data and information segment of GNSS, it is considered a GNSS information (cyber‐) security attack. Considering a significant and powerful threat, GNSS spoofing should be treated seriously to avoid damage and liabilities resulting from disruptions of GNSS PNT services. Here the GNSS position estimation procedure is examined for potential vulnerabilities, and the nature of and motivation for GNSS spoofing attacks exloiting the vulnerabilities assessed. A novel GNSS Spoofing Detection and Mitigation (GNSS SDM) method is proposed within the established computational and communication infrastructure, that allows for successful overcoming and classification of GNSS spoofing attacks. Proposed method is applicable without requirements for core GNSS modification, and leaves majority of user equipment easily transferable to the GNSS spoofing‐free environment. Potential GNSS spoofing effects and GNSS anti‐spoofing opportunities in maritime sector were given a particular attention.

Satellite navigation gains importance in sustainable development of modern civilisation. With the increasing number of GNSS-based technology and socio-economic systems and services, satellite navigation has become an essential component of national infrastructure. This calls for novel requirements on GNSS positioning perfomance, and increasing need for resilient GNSS development. Here we examined the impact of rapidly developing tropical cyclone on GPS positioning performance degradation, and the resulting impact on oceanic non-navigation and navigation GPS applications. We presented the methodology for indirect simulation-based GPS positioning performance evaluation through utilisation of experimental GPS observations, GNSS Software-Defined Radio (SDR) receiver, and a statistical analysis and framework we developed in the R environment for scientific computing. We identified alteration of GPS positioning error components time series statistical properties, and discuss the potential impact on GPS-based services essential for remote oceanic island communities. This paper presents the results of studies on the determination of an aircraft’s trajectory and positioning accuracy. The PPP method was applied to determine the aircraft’s position in kinematic mode for code observations in the GPS system. Computations were executed in the “PPP_KINEMTIC” software, whose source code was written using the Scilab 5.3.2 platform. The PPP_KINEMTIC software allows for the latitude coordinate to be estimated with accuracy between 1 and 6 m, the longitude coordinate to be estimated with accuracy between 0.5 and 2.5 m, and the ellipsoidal height to be estimated with accuracy between 1 and 7 m. The average value of the MRSE term equals 5 m with a magnitude between 1 and 8.5 m. In the paper, general libraries of the PPP_KINEMTIC application were presented and the PPP method was characterized too.

Opis:
The article discusses the concept of time in navigation, especially in marine navigation, as well as selected time measures, among others: Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), Universal Time Coordinated (UTC), International Atomic Time TAI (Temps Atomique International), GPST (Global Positioning System Time) eLoran Time and interrelation between these measures. Understanding how time is involved in navigation, and using it, is one of the navigator's most important duties. Nowadays we have satellite navigation to help us know where we are. These satellites contain several very precise and accurate clocks, because time and location are completely and totally inter-related in satellite navigation. There is growing interest internationally concerning the vulnerability Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) to natural and man-made interference, plus the jamming and spoofing of their transmissions. These vulnerabilities have led to a demand for sources of resilient PNT (Positioning, Navigation and Timing) [16], including a robust means of distributing precise time nationally and internationally.

Pseudo-Random Noise (PRN) Gold code was selected for utilisation as the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) pseudo-range measurement code sequence. Recent studies revealed a potential security vulnerability issue due to the Gold PRN code utilisation in a GNSS-related cyber-attack known as GNSS spoofing. Here a PRN code construction method based on chaotic-form logistic map is proposed as an alternative to the existing Gold code practice. Dubbed Chaotic Ranging Code (CRC), is a PRN code generation method that generates ranging code with orthogonal properties as good as, if not better, then those of the Gold PRN code, while assuming the encryption embedded in the proposed CRC code provides improved GNSS information security.

Information about user’s position can be obtained from specialized electronic position-fixing systems, in particular, Satellite Navigation Systems (SNS) as GPS and GLONASS, and Satellite Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) as EGNOS, WAAS, MSAS. All these systems are known also as GNSS (Global Satellite Navigation System). As the number of GPS and GLONASS satellites visible by the user is sometimes in restricted area not sufficient, and these SNS cannot provide information about integrity, there is one service for civil users only etc., new systems, global as well as regional, must be constructed. The last years gave a rise to many important changes in the operational status and practical exploitation of all these systems. New SNS as Galileo in Europe and Compass (Beidou) in China, new SBAS as GAGAN in India and SDCM in Russia, new regional SNS as IRNSS in India and QZSS in Japan are actually under construction. Additionally the new satellite blocks as GPS IIF and III, and GLONASS K1 and K2, the new signals as GPS L5 and L1C, and GLONASS LC3OC and L1OC, the new services and possible applications of the future system Galileo are presented in this paper.

The paper discusses the problem of quick acquire height data for calculation of escarpment stability. In past the slope of profile was obtainedfrom classical land survey methods (like Total Station, GNSS, etc.), carto- metric measurement on maps or measurements based on a Digital Terrain Modelfrom aerial photography. Now we have a new method that is Airborne Laser Scanning (LiDAR-ALS). In 2011-2014 almost all country was measured in this method. The declared accuracy of height measurement on the durable surfaces is about 0.10-0.15 m. Author compared this method with classical method Global Navigation Satellite System - Real Time Network (GNSS-RTN) on two wooded and bushy areas. The comparison was based on the measurement characteristic points on the profiles and acquisition of height data from LiDAR-ALS data. Data in this method were obtained in two ways: from point cloud and from DTM createdfrom this point cloud. In the next step, height differences were calculated and these data were subjected to basic statistical calculations. The result of the study was a mean error of height data from LiDAR-ALS and conclusions about its usefulness in acquire height data for calculation of escarpment stability.

Opis:
Contemporary geodesy is of global dimension. The reference frame is defined as the geocentric system with parameters related to the entire Earth body, e.g. the axis of rotation, and global geoid. The unified time scale is determined for the whole Earth territory as well. International services using different satellite techniques are engaged in the determination of this frame. Particularly important is the Global Positioning System GPS, which is the most important geodetic tool nowadays. In Poland a number of geodetic observatories are working in the frame of the international networks, Polish scientific groups contribute to the advancement of science in this domain. For the practical applications we are using the local networks that again are constructed with satellite techniques. In Europe the regional network EUREF exists while its part EUREF-POL and densification POLREF are in Poland. The modern network ASG-EUPOS is under construction. The GPS technique is used for surveying and navigation and for the positioning in motion, which is in-between the preceding traditional methods. Differential augmentation methods are designed to improve GPS signals such as DGPS and EGNOS. The new European satellite navigation system Galileo is in development. Poland is a member and coowner of this system. A number of Polish research institutions are working on new methods of the practical application of GNSS.

Opis:
This paper presents original researches and analysis of EGNOS (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service) due to readiness for Approach Procedures with Vertical Guidance (APV) implementation and development for small and medium airports on Polish territory according to present situation in the western part of Europe. Improving safety, availability, usefulness and cost-effectiveness for aviation transport sector. This work carries out a detailed analysis of the parameters describing and characterizing each augmentation navigational satellites system: accuracy, integrity, continuity and availability. Faults has been pointed out and shortcomings of EGNOS factors according to improvement air transport safety in the most sensitive landing phases. The validated Approach Procedures with Vertical Guidance, using Satellite-Based Augmentations System is paving the way for flying Instrument Landing System type approaches to small and medium airports in the western part of Europe independently of groundbased infrastructure. The instrument APV procedures consists of four phases of flight: Initial Approach, Intermediate Approach, Final Approach and Missed Approach – parts of approach segments. SBAS (Satellite Based Augmentation System) seems to be the first satellite based system that can support FAS (Final Approach Segment) which is the most “sensitive”, important and dangerous part of the instrumental approach procedures based on aircraft’s avionics equipment most time without vertical and horizontal visibility. EGNOS augments the GPS system in order to meet the necessary: accuracy, integrity, availability, continuity envisaged for APV procedures [9]. APV procedure based on EGNOS system is recently the only low-cost chance for small and medium Polish airports development in the aviation transport sector, according to extension and improving augmentation system factors mentioned above.
Praca ta przedstawia dokładną analizę czynników opisujących każdy system wspomagania satelitarnego: dokładność, wiarygodność, ciągłość I dostępność. Niedoskonałości systemu zostały przedstawione w odniesieniu do poprawy bezpieczeństwa transportu powietrznego w najdelikatniejszej fazie lotu – podejścia do lądowania. Powyższa procedura z wykorzystaniem system wspomagającego otwiera szansę rozwoju małym i średnim portom lotniczym w Europie Zachodniej uniezależniając podejście do lądowania od infrastruktury lotniskowej.

At present, the methods based on using linearized dynamical equations are applied for syn- thesis of an attitude control system of a satellite with nonlinear dynamics. Linearized equa- tions describe the satellite dynamics approximately, which is the main their disadvantage. This article shows that basing on the angular momentum theorem, the nonlinear dynamical equations of the satellite attitude control system can be represented in the form of linear differential equations with variable coefficients, which makes it possible to use engineering methods of stability analysis and analysis of transient quality in the process of synthesis of the satellite attitude control system.
