The methods of automatic pilotage along a guided path are well known in the practice of navigation. However these methods have a number of drawbacks, which reduce the effectiveness of their application. It is especially important for river-sea vessel in poor visibility. Because of the large inertia of the vessel and its hydrodynamic properties that are changed by external influences, the process has unstable oscillatory nature. Therefore the vessel moves not in a straight line, but on a winding curve having the general direction that corresponds to the specified value. In this paper new method of coastal navigation with invented new devices supported with satellite navigation receiver is presented.
Metody automatycznego prowadzenia statku po zadanej trasie są powszechnie znane i szeroko stosowane w praktyce. Mają one jednak kilka niedogodności, które częściowo ograniczają ich efektywność. Jest to istotne zwłaszcza dla statków morsko-rzecznych w warunkach ograniczonej widzialności. Z powodu dużej bezwładności statku, a także szczególnych własności hydrodynamicznych, które zmieniają się pod wpływem czynników zewnętrznych, proces ten nie jest stabilny i ma charakter oscylacyjny. W efekcie statek nie porusza się po linii prostej, lecz myszkuje, utrzymując tylko w przybliżeniu założony kurs. W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono nową metodę żeglugi w strefie brzegowej wraz z propozycją specjalnej aparatury do tego celu, opartej na nawigacji satelitarnej.

Opis:
Presently a lot of countries carry out aviation tests of Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast ADB-S). The on-board GPS receiver is used as a basic source of information on position and time for that system. According to the CNS/ATM plan, traditional radars using by ATC will be replaced for ADB-S in the near future. One the vital elements of the system is Global Navigational Satellite System (GNSS). According to the project a research team is going to work out an aviation tracking system for control an air traffic and ground movement in the border area. Moreover, the team will examine the system in the areas of accuracy, range of tracking and reliability as well. The proposed system consists of three basic components: the positioning, airborne GNSS receivers, the transmission of data and the ground station. The research plan is carried out taking into account a variety of air operations, such as a takeoff, a route on a low height, approaching and landing. The idea of monitoring system for aircraft using satellite navigation systems is in line witch the concept of the use of GNSS in aviation, both in Europe and worldwide.

The rapid development of satellite navigation and timing technologies and the broad availability of user equipment and applications has dramatically changed the world over the last 20 years. It took 38 years from the launch of the world’s first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1, (October 4, 1957) to the day NAVSTAR GPS became fully operational (July 17, 1995). In the next 20 years user equipment became widely available at the consumer level, and 10 global and regional satellite systems were partially or fully deployed. These highly precise signals provided free to the user have been incorporated by clever engineers into virtually every technology. At the same time interference with these signals (spoofing and jamming) have become a significant day to day problem in many societies and pose a significant threat to critical infrastructure. This paper provides information on the current status and development of navigation satellite systems based on data provided by the systems' administrators. It also provides information on Loran/eLoran, a system which many nations have selected as a complement and backup for satellite navigation systems.

The use of satellite navigation by aerial craft becomes more and more common. Practically every newly produced plane or helicopter has GPS receiver installed on board. This system becomes widely used because it is simple and highly reliable. To improve the Required Performance Navigation Parameters (RNP), namely, the accuracy, availability, continuity, and integrity of aircraft navigation, the integrated GPS and GLONASS techniques can be used. Users are especially interested in integrated GPS/GLONASS receivers. The appearance of new ASHTECH GG24 receiver on the market has made it possible to estimate the possibility of utilisation of this type of receivers in aircraft navigation. The main goal of performed flight trials was the use of those receivers in satellite-based approaches and landings. The authors of the report carried out an experiment aiming at data collection during flight and approach to landing of plane TS11 Iskra. The airport of Deblin was chosen as the test area. The precise trajectory of the aircraft was calculated in the global WGS'84 system of co-ordinates for subsequent positions during flight, at one-second intervals, with the use of RTK techniques in "post-processing" mode. The RTK positions were compared with DGPS/DGLONASS real-time positions and next, the estimation of real-time differential accuracy was done. The preliminary results of the accuracy analysis are given in the paper.

Opis:
Artykuł przedstawia zastosowanie GPS w budownictwie drogowym w celu kontroli i poprawy jakości wykonywanych robót drogowych. Nawigacja satelitarna jest stosowana w coraz większym zakresie w samochodach transportowych w celu śledzenia ruchu pojazdów (automonitoring), jak i w maszynach roboczych w budownictwie drogowym w celu zwiększenia efektywności i zmniejszenia kosztów robót, np. rozkładarki, spycharki, równiarki, koparki. Systemy GPS, w które wyposażane są maszyny drogowe, wykorzystywane są w kontroli grubości warstw nawierzchni oraz zagęszczenia podłoża lub warstw asfaltowych. Przedstawiono podstawy stosowanych systemów sterowania i kontroli pracy maszyn z wykorzystaniem nawigacji satelitarnej oraz przykłady wykorzystania w budowie dróg w USA i Polsce.
Paper presents GPS applications in road building industry for control and quality improvement of road construction. Satellite navigation is applied in a wide range in transport tracks for route control (auto monitoring) as well as in equipment for road construction, eg. pavers, bulldozers, graders, excavators, to improve effectiveness and to reduce work costs. GPS systems in road equipment are applied for control of pavement layers thickness as well as compaction of subgrade or asphalt layers. Papers presents basics of the steering and machine control systems with use of satellite navigation as well as examples of applications in the USA and Poland.

This study shows the way of ionospheric data usage obtained from 2 Tables using D2 NAV message Chinese BeiDou system. It was identified particular algorithms for Table’s calculation. W artykule opisano sposób wykorzystania danych jonosferycznych zawartych w dwóch tabelach przesyłanych w depeszy D2 NAV chińskiego systemu BeiDou. Określono szczegółowe wzory umożliwiające określenie danych zawartych w tabelach. Zaproponowano modyfikację tabeli danych nr 2 oraz określono wzory pozwalające na korzystanie z tej tabeli. Podano przykłady liczbowe określenia danych w systemie tabel BeiDou oraz w systemie zaproponowanym.

The dilution of precision (DOP) in satellite navigation system provides a simple characterization of the user-satellite geometry and a quantitative assessment of the positioning constellation configuration. The essential idea of physical augmentation factor of precision (PAFP) proposed in this work, is that navigation signals are transmitted at multiple frequencies from each visible satellite in the positioning constellation, while users measure the corresponding multiple pseudoranges of satellites to achieve high precision code positioning. As the multiple pseudoranges of one satellite are measured independently by the corresponding navigation signals at different frequencies, it is reasonable to treat the measurement errors due to the satellite clock and ephemeris, the atmospheric propagation as uncorrelated, random, and identically distributed. The multipath effects and receiver noise are also processed with some empirical models. By measuring user-satellite code pseudoranges at different frequencies, the PAFP offers a scheme that produces the same effect as that of the redundant-overlapping constellation, thus equivalently improving the geometric DOP. It can effectively improve code positioning precision of satellite navigation system.

The survey technique using satellite navigation methods have already reached such level, that it can be used not only for position determination at any place on earth but they have the quality which makes it possible to take actions at higher demands in regard to thc accuracy. Such field of potentlal implementation is displacement survey especially at vast areas where classic methods based on angles and distances don't guarantee sufficient accuracies of the results. In regard to increasing possibilities of RTK technique, some tests of its accuracy have been performed in different places, which showed the reality of reaching standard deviation in less than 1 cm. Such assessment encourages to attempt the use of this techniąue to ineasure displacements. As a part of this work the methods for obtaining accurate results with RTK technique have been reviewed, our own procedure for measuring and calculation has been developed and series of tests have been performed along with a study of their accuracy. Factors which affect the accuracy of the measurement time were examined among others, the number of reference stations approximations and observations filtering, and the differential adjustment. The conclusions provide prospects for achieving the accuracy of the measurement of horizontal displacements of large objects with the average error of 2-3 mm.

The first PBN approach procedures in Slovakia became operationally effective at Bratislava and Košice airports as of 5 February 2015. The article presents the results of EGNOS Safety-of-Life Service preliminary examination in eastern Slovakia, just before official introduction of these procedures. The practical examination includes static test and test flight made with Cessna plane taking off at the airport in Bidovce — LZBD (just 16 km from international airport in Košice) and passing a route along eastern border of Slovakia. In this region the performance of EGNOS could be unsatisfactory due to lack of RIMS stations to the east from there. The experiment was performed on October 13, 2014 in cooperation of the Air Force Academy in Deblin, the Department of Aviation of Technical University in Košice and University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn.
Pierwsze procedury podejścia do lądowania typu PBN (Performance-Based Navigation) na Słowacji zostały wdrożone na lotniskach w Bratysławie i Koszycach 5 lutego 2015 r. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki wstępnych analiz serwisu Safety-of-Life systemu EGNOS we wschodniej Słowacji, tuż przed oficjalnym wprowadzeniem tych procedur. Badania praktyczne obejmują test statyczny oraz lot testowy wykonany samolotem Cessna z lotniska Bidovce-LZBD (oddalonego zaledwie 16 km od międzynarodowego lotniska w Koszycach) po trasie wzdłuż wschodniej granicy Słowacji. W tym regionie jakość systemu EGNOS może być niezadowalająca z powodu braku stacji monitorujących RIMS na wschód od tego miejsca. Eksperyment przeprowadzono 13 października 2014 r. we współpracy Wyższej Szkoły Oficerskiej Sił Powietrznych w Dęblinie, Wydziału Lotnictwa Politechniki w Koszycach oraz Uniwersytetu Warmińsko-Mazurskiego w Olsztynie.

However, relying solely on the navigational data from one autonomous receiver the navigator may expect that a given position is burdened with significant errors or that the position data will be lost. This results from the shortcoming of GPS systems which are susceptible to disturbances affecting their operation. One method to substantially reduce such risk is a navigational system that makes use of a number of sources for accurate position determination. The obtained data are processed, which involves data integration and filtration in order to further diminish measurement errors. One possible solution is the application of a system based on an algorithm of multi-sensor navigational data fusion using a Kalman filter. After a brief description of the algorithm, this article presents some results of the fusion of data from parallel position measurements, where the data come from two mobile GPS receivers. The said solution is intended to be implemented in a navigational decision support system on board a sea-going vessel.
W dobie rozwoju nawigacji satelitarnej praktycznie każdy statek jest wyposażony w odbiorniki systemu GPS, wskazujące współrzędne pozycji obiektu. Jednakże opierając się tylko i wyłącznie na informacji nawigacyjnej otrzymywanej z pojedynczego, autonomicznego odbiornika narażamy się na ryzyko wystąpienia znacznych błędów lub utraty informacji pozycyjnej. Wynika to z wady tych systemów, jaką jest możliwość stosunkowo łatwego zakłócania ich pracy. Jednym ze sposobów na znaczne zredukowanie tego ryzyka jest zastosowanie systemu nawigacyjnego, w którym dla dokładnego wyznaczenia pozycji wykorzystuje się dane uzyskiwane z wielu źródeł oraz poddaje się je obróbce: integracji i filtracji w celu dalszego ograniczenia błędów pomiarowych. Jednym z możliwych rozwiązań jest zastosowanie systemu działającego w oparciu o algorytm wielosensorowej fuzji danych nawigacyjnych z wykorzystaniem filtra Kalmana. W artykule, po krótkim opisie algorytmu, przedstawiono przykładowe wyniki badań polegających na fuzji równoległych pomiarów pozycji, pochodzących z dwóch różnych, ruchomych odbiorników GPS. Powyższe rozwiązanie planuje się zastosować w nawigacyjnym systemie wspomagania decyzji na statku morskim.

[from "Introduction"] The dissertation is divided into four chapters: Chapter I. "Terminological synthesis of concepts: availability, reliability and continuity in literature on navigation" - covers the study of literature in the field of navigation with regard to the three concepts discussed. They will be characterized with respect to both their nature, and methods of determination navigational purposes. As a result of the analysis, drawn will be conclusions related to the existing differences in perception of the terms, narrowing down of their meaning in navigation, as well as constraints of the models recommended. Chapter II. "General model of the availability, reliability and continuity" - here the definition of navigational structure will be constructed. This definition is indispensable for the process of system modeling. The mathematical model of alternative process with restoration will be worked out, based on the mathematical description of navigational systems’ states. As a result, mathematical relations of availability, reliability and continuity will be formulated, describing them on a general level. The same model will enable the transposition to time-related formulas, typical of a number navigation processes, i.e. processes - where distributions of lifetimes and times of failures are expressed by exponential equations. Chapter III. "Classical differential GPS systems"- the main thesis will be considered here and include structural models of differential DGPS transmission, providing, in this way, for making a separate individual navigational structure - differential GPS transmission. Consequently, models and measures of reliability, availability and continuity will be proposed for transmission of the RTCM messages (type 1 or 9-3) commonly used in navigation. Chapter IV. "Differential GPS system network" - presents the validation method of DGPS systems in the areas where multiple coverage of several radiobeacons and reference stations exists. An analogous method of modelling as in the classic systems is proposed. A general validation of transmission methods for differential GPS will also be proposed in this chapter. The issues considered in this dissertation, will exemplify a group of single element models - GPS telemetric transmission - within the complex structure of differential GPS. We can assume that a new scientific area will be opened for future deliberations in the fields related to: 1. Optimisation of decision making process when deploying maritime reference stations (DGPS) or land based (permanent GPS/RTK), taking into account: user reliability features, minimum requirements for the basin (area), maximization of task effectiveness and many others. 2. Advantages of multistation system nets in the aspect of position accuracy and operation reliability, also other typical features influencing exploitation. The mathematical model proposed in this dissertation, fills the gap concerning methodology used to determine the magnitude of reliability, continuity and transmission availability in differential GPS systems on surveying level. Thus, more effective way of use in navigation has been provided. General and particular theory introduced to describe navigation systems by means of reliability characteristics enables theoretical considerations over individual elements and easy integration into more complex structures.

The article presents a project and simulation results of an integrated positioning system DR/GPS. Firstly, a choice of devices for the positioning system is discussed. Secondly, a concept of integration of a dead reckoning (DR) module with a GPS receiver is described. The system processes data from an odometer, a gyro, an electronic compass, which constitute the DR unit, and from a GPS receiver with use of two complementary Kalman filters. Next, state-space model of the system and Kalman filters are shortly presented. After that, the authors outline an adopted methodology of simulative testing of DR/GPS integrated system. Chosen simulation results are included in the paper. The presented integrated positioning system may find its application as a component of an in-car navigation system or, following several alterations, also as an onboard system of other types of land vehicles.

Contemporary geodesy is of global dimension. The reference frame is defined as the geocentric system with parameters related to the entire Earth body, e.g. the axis of rotation, and global geoid. The unified time scale is determined for the whole Earth territory as well. International services using different satellite techniques are engaged in the determination of this frame. Particularly important is the Global Positioning System GPS, which is the most important geodetic tool nowadays. In Poland a number of geodetic observatories are working in the frame of the international networks, Polish scientific groups contribute to the advancement of science in this domain. For the practical applications we are using the local networks that again are constructed with satellite techniques. In Europe the regional network EUREF exists while its part EUREF-POL and densification POLREF are in Poland. The modern network ASG-EUPOS is under construction. The GPS technique is used for surveying and navigation and for the positioning in motion, which is in-between the preceding traditional methods. Differential augmentation methods are designed to improve GPS signals such as DGPS and EGNOS. The new European satellite navigation system Galileo is in development. Poland is a member and coowner of this system. A number of Polish research institutions are working on new methods of the practical application of GNSS.

An uninterrupted information about the user’s position can be obtained generally from satellite navigation system (SNS). At the time of this writing (January 2017) currently two global SNSs, GPS and GLONASS, are fully operational, two next, also global, Galileo and BeiDou are under construction. In each SNS the accuracy of the user’s position is affected by the three main factors: accuracy of each satellite position, accuracy of pseudorange measurement and satellite geometry. The user’s position error is a function of both the pseudorange error called UERE (User Equivalent Range Error) and user/satellite geometry expressed by right Dilution Of Precision (DOP) coefficient. This error is decomposed into two types of errors: the signal in space ranging error called URE (User Range Error) and the user equipment error UEE. The detailed analyses of URE, UEE, UERE and DOP coefficients, and the changes of DOP coefficients in different days are presented in this paper.

In open area the accuracy of the observer’s position obtained from the satellite navigation systems depends on a number of satellites (ls) visible above masking elevation angle (Hmin) and the geometry of systems – GDOP coefficient. In restricted area (coastal navigation, urban area) system accuracy depends on the parameters mentioned for open area and the dimensions and situated area of the obstacles additionally. The calculations were made for the observer situated on the ship sailing along the coast and in the middle of the street for different obstacles heights for Galileo system and for GPS system. Street parameters were: the street axis azimuth and latitude phi.
