Optimal stopping time problems for a risk process $U_t=u+ct-\sum_{n=0}^{N(t)}X_n$ where the number N(t) of losses up to time t is a general renewal process and the sequence of $X_i$'s represents successive losses are studied. N(t) and $X_i$'s are independent. Our goal is to maximize the expected return before the ruin time. The main results are closely related to those obtained by Boshuizen and Gouweleew [2].

We consider two-person nonzero-sum stopping game. The players (insurers) observe discrete time risk processes until one of them decides to stop his process. Strategies of the players are stopping times. The aim of each player is to maximize his expected gain. We find Nash equilibrium point for this game under certain assumptions on reward sequences.

Opis:
Risk management is an activity which integrates recognition of risk, risk assessment, developing strategies to manage it, and mitigation of risk using managerial resources. Some traditional risk managements are focused on risks stemming from physical or legal causes (e.g. natural disasters or fires, accidents, death). Financial risk management, on the other hand, focuses on risks that can be managed using traded financial instruments. Objective of risk management is to reduce different risks related to a pre-selected domain to an acceptable. It may refer to numerous types of threats caused by environment, technology, humans, organizations and politics. The paper describes the different steps in the risk management process which methods are used in the different steps, and provides some examples for risk and safety management.

Szczególny nacisk w opracowaniu został położony na ryzyko katastroficzne powodujące wysokie straty w nieruchomościach oraz zarządzanie nim poprzez ubezpieczenie.
The paper analysis the influence of widely understood business activity and real estate matters. It brings closer the issue of ‘risk management’ and presents the complex process of risk management in organisations. The work pays special attention to catastrophic risk causing high losses in properties and risk management by insurance. Issues raised in the article constitute the authoress’ research and dissertation subject, where selected theses of the paper come from.

In the paper, definitions and theoretical results on system operations process, multi-state system reliability, risk and availability modelling are illustrated by the example of their application to a bulk cargo transportation system operating in Gdynia Port Bulk Cargo Terminal. The bulk cargo transportation system is considered in varying in time operation conditions. The system reliability structure and its components reliability functions are changing in variable operation conditions. The system reliability structures are fixed with a high accuracy. Whereas, the input reliability characteristics of the bulk cargo transportation system components and the system operation process characteristics are not sufficiently exact because of the lack of statistical data. Anyway, the obtained evaluation may be a very useful example in simple and quick systems reliability characteristics evaluation, especially during the design and improving the transportation systems operating in ports.

Artykuł dotyczy ryzyk związanych z realizacją procesu inwestycyjnego (przede wszystkim inwestycji budowlanych, zwłaszcza autostrady) oraz metod i przykładów zarządzania nimi (głównie poprzez ubezpieczenie). Szczególny akcent położony został na budowę autostrady na odcinku Kraków-Tarnów. W pracy zaprezentowano podstawowe pojęcia dotyczące ryzyka, przedstawiono jego szeroką klasyfikację, opisano przykłady ryzyk w budowie autostrady i skutki ich realizacji. W procesie zarządzania ryzykiem zwrócono uwagę na czynniki zwiększające prawdopodobieństwo wystąpienia ryzyka w budowie autostrady oraz metody jego ograniczania. Przybliżono pojęcie ubezpieczenia jako narzędzia umożliwiającego pokrycie finansowe skutków realizacji ryzyka i przedstawiono produkty ubezpieczeniowe obejmujące analizowany zakres oferowane przez ubezpieczycieli w Polsce.
The article refers to the risks connected with carrying out the investment process (mostly construction investments, motorway ones in particular) and how to manage them (mostly by insurance). Particular attention has been paid to the motorway construction in the section between Kraków and Tarnów. The work shows basic ideas that refer to a risk and its broad classification; also examples of risks in the motorway construction have been described along with effects of their accomplishments. In the process of risk management, the attention has been paid to the factors increasing the chance of the risk occurrence in the motorway construction and some methods of how to limit them. Insurance as the tool has been introduced, which will make it possible to cover financial results of accomplishing the risk, also insurance products offered by the Polish Insurers have been introduced, which will cover the analysed section.

The article describes a shock safety modeling method for low-voltage electric devices, based on using a Bayesian network. This method allows for taking into account all possible combinations of the reliability and unreliability states for the shock protection elements under concern. The developed method allows for investigating electric shock incidents, analysing and assessing shock risks, as well as for determining criteria of dimensioning shock protection means, also with respect to reliability of the particular shock protection elements. Dependencies for determining and analysing the probability of appearance of reliability states of protection as well as an electric shock risk are presented in the article.

The article defines and describes the stochastic model to measure the effectiveness of oil spill mitigation. This model uses the ,,firefighter's algorithm" on the grid to designate the state space of the process. It can be used to develop strategies to use available resources in terms of time needed to perform the action.

Opis:
Cases of fungal infections are being encountered more often in clinical practice. The factors associated with a high risk of mycoses include, among others, corticosteroidotherapy, the administration antibiotics with wide spectrum of antibacterial properties, neutropenia, neoplasms. Fungi may play a role in cancer formation, may act as a complication in the course of treatment, and may mimic a neoplastic process by giving a similar clinical picture. In the case of fungal throat infection, patients complain of increased body temperature, a general feeling of weakness, malaise, headache, spontaneous pain intensifying during swallowing, a feeling of an obstacle in the throat or a cough. A physical examination may reveal congestion of the mucosa followed by a unilateral crater ulceration often covered with fat, as well as a thick coating, which is accompanied by foetor ex ore. The submandibular and neck lymph nodes are often greatly enlarged and painful. These symptoms may resemble those associated with the neoplastic process and changes in the course of systemic diseases (agranulocytosis). A correct diagnosis in these cases is necessary for adequate therapy. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most common type of leukemia among adults in Europe and North America. It is estimated that in Poland, CLL affects approximately 1,400 people per year. In this paper, a case of 62-years old patient with CLL with fungal infection of oral cavity and throat is presented.

In the article, a method for assessment of risks connected with a technical object functioning has been studied, in a selected operating system. An urban system of bus transportation, in a selected urban complex, has been chosen as the research object. Functioning of each technical object operating system, including transportation systems, is dependent on its possibility to perform properly the assigned transport task. One of the methods for assessment of the transportation system ability to accomplish the assigned transport task in a proper way is determination of the transport means operation risk. The presented approach involves determination of indexes defining the risks connected with functioning of one technical object (transport means) in an executive subsystem. Indexes of the risk connected with functioning of a single technical object have been determined on the basis of a mathematical model of the operation process, in the studied transportation system. On the basis of the identification of the authentic transport system and the means of transport operation process carried out in it, crucial operational states were designed as well as the possibilities of transferring between the particular states. Based on that, an event-centered model of the use of the means of transport was built, followed by a mathematical model of that process. A Mathematical model of the operation process has been developed with acceptance of an assumption that the process model is to be represented by a homogeneous Markov model X(t). In this paper, the transport means operation risk is determined as a product of probability (or sum of probabilities) of its being in an undesirable state (states) of the Markov model of transport means operation process and the size of the damage in effect of being in the state (states). The size of the suffered damage is measured by a product of time and unit cost whose quantities are connected with being in the operation process undesirable state or states. Assessment of risk connected with technical objects operation and maintenance can be the point of reference to formulate design requirements concerning durability and reliability of the operated objects (transport means) as well as assumptions concerning design or modernization of the technical means necessary for assurance of the vehicle availability in a given transport system.

In this paper, the methodology of modelling the production process of the underground hard coal mine together with the streams of financial outlays and benefits is characterised. The method was developed for the purpose of analysis and assessment of the economic efficiency of the investment works in terms of determining the output volume of the mine. The reference to the integrational method of the mine production process modelling and estimating its economic efficiency in the underground hard coal mine was made. On the basis of this reference, a model of the production process and associated with this process streams of financial outlays and benefits were built. Economic efficiency indices of the investment, as the objective functions were shortly characterised. The aspect of uncertainty and risk, associated with the process of planning the output volume of the mine were discussed. The most important information and data, assumed for the exemplary calculations, conducted in accordance to the developed methodology and the most important conclusions drawn from the calculations were also instanced.
W pracy scharakteryzowano metodykę modelowania procesu produkcyjnego podziemnej kopalni węgla kamiennego oraz związanych z nim strumieni wydatków i efektów finansowych opracowaną dla potrzeb analizy i oceny ekonomicznej efektywności przedsięwzięć inwestycyjnych w aspekcie projektowania wielkości wydobycia kopalni. Nawiązano do integracyjnej metody odwzorowania i oceny ekonomicznej efektywności procesu produkcyjnego kopalni podziemnej, na bazie której zbudowano model procesu produkcyjnego i związanych z nim strumieni wydatków i efektów finansowych. Scharakteryzowano pokrótce mierniki oceny ekonomicznej efektywności inwestycji przyjęte jako funkcje celu. Poddano dyskusji aspekt niepewności i ryzyka w procesie projektowania wielkości wydobycia kopalni. Przytoczono najważniejsze informacje i dane przyjęte do przykładowych obliczeń, które wykonano zgodnie z opracowaną metodyką, a także najistotniejsze wnioski wynikające z obliczeń.
