Opis:
Mobbing at the workplace assumes strong, intensive, and significant interactions between an offender and a target, or a group of targets, causing serious damage to work efficiency, atmosphere, motivation, and employee fluctuation. It also highly affects the victims’ mental health, which often results in excluding them from work for a long time. The objective of this paper is to examine the issue of mobbing from the perspective of symbolic interactionism (SI) that is useful in explaining social phenomena on a micro and mezzo level. Through inductive reasoning with the use of grounded theory (GT), I focus on the narratives of mobbing targets and their stories concerning maltreatment at the workplace. The study based on a qualitative approach included 72 narrative interviews carried out among harassment victims, as well as 12 in-depth interviews with professionals dealing with the matter of mobbing. Moreover, to directly follow work-related processes linked to organizational behavior, I utilized participant observation.

The article presents the results of an Internet questionnaire examining high school graduates’ (general education high schools and technical high schools) perceptions on aesthetical and cultural education in the institutional context. The study was based on students’ narratives gathered by means of a purpose- designed interview questionnaire using the methodology of interpretive anthropology in relation to the perspective of an ‘insider’ or a ‘local’. The results were further organised accordingly with the strategy of horizonalisation, which made it possible to construct a model encompassing all the participants’ contributions.

The number of empirical studies on German social work makes it difficult to gain a clear picture of them all. The increasing academisation of education and the expansion of study programs also reveal an increase in social work research in Germany. This article traces this development and discusses open questions. In addition, it demonstrates the importance of qualitative research, in particular for the development of professional casework. The paper proposes a systematization of German research in the field of social work and discusses this systematization based on the example of a study. Finally, the paper presents some further aspects and recent developments.

Family – as each social phenomenon – is for researchers a methodological challenge, which means answering the questions: How to investigate family? Which methods to use? And how to achieve research goals? Among many realized research projects in pedagogy, family sciences, sociology and social anthropology, the paper proposes application of qualitative research methodology in family studies based on constructivist assumptions. Benefits and cost of such research made through observation, interviews, documents analysis will be the subject of interest in the article based on a case study made by the author. The paper is not the whole analysis of qualitative research methods due to many textbooks and papers concerning such topics. The aim of the paper is to present possibilities of using qualitative methodology in family research.

Opis:
This article deals with fieldwork in challenging research contexts that make preparation for field research particularly difficult. Challenging contexts include generally insecure places, politicized contexts, and unknown settings. Drawing on our experience in the field, we discuss four challenges that are common across these contexts: access, positionality, researcher well-being, and research design and data collection. Bringing together insights from fieldwork with urban elites and in the countryside, this paper describes problems that occurred in both settings and identifies a set of interpersonal skills that helped the authors to tackle the challenges of the field and seize the opportunities it offered. This article posits that recognizing the importance of certain interpersonal skills, namely: openness, empathy, humility, and flexibility, precedes the identification of practical tools. Interpersonal skills, instead, focus on a general attitude that underlies researchers’ capacity to make informed choices about specific courses of actions, preparing fieldworkers to be prepared to confront problems once they arise.

Childlessness in marriage is still socially defined as otherness. It is a deviation from the current cultural standard and – as a consequence – it requires explanation and legitimization, especially when the otherness is deliberate. The aim of the conducted qualitative research was to establish personal definitions of the situation of childlessness in marriage applied by persons aged 50 and older. The study focused on cultural patterns of experiencing and validating this non-standard lifestyle. 21 interviews centered on this issue were conducted. The analysis of the obtained data showed that the most important variables determining the model of experiencing childlessness in marriage by the subjects were the causes of childlessness and the significance of having children in their individual hierarchy of values. In each individual case, the way of experiencing childlessness results from the configuration of the recognized order of motivation and evaluation. It also seems that the order of evaluation is significant to the entire functioning of these persons. It is relatively independent from the objective cause of childlessness.

Students’ free option power of learning is an important part of students’ power of learning. It emphasizes respect for students’ learning rights and freedom, so that students have a certain freedom of learning choice. In the theory and practice of Chinese higher education, undergraduates’ free option power of learning has long been weakened and restricted by various factors. This study provides an understanding of the current situation of undergraduates’ free option power of learning through 20 interviews with undergra duates from a university in Central China in a pilot project, whose purpose was to provide students with freedom in selecting higher education options. The interviews address three areas where students were given the option to select: (a) learning content, (b) learning processes, and (c) learning environments. Discussion follows on the problems experienced by Chinese undergraduates’ in the free option power of learning project. Lastly, as China hopes to expand this project beyond the pilot, we advance recommendations to promote effective implementation of the free option power of learning of Chinese undergraduates, such as: (a) establishing sound laws to ensure the effective implementation of the power of students; (b) empowering undergraduates to have more choice to choose and change their majors; (c) carrying out the flexible program duration to let students have free choice of getting credits; and (d) establishing a sound and perfect transfer mechanism to let students have more choice of universities.

Its goal is show the processes which have been the subject of discussions and debates in Poland for more than 20 years through the eyes of „the stranger”. The research consists of 19 biographical interviews. In the article I reconstruct the ways of political thinking and attitudes towards systemic changes. I pay particular attention to the factors which shaped them – both determinants rooted in the period before the migration (such as: social origin, political views etc.) and experiences from Poland. Differences in perception of the time of so-called „Carnival of Solidarity” and the transformation in 1989 and their sources will be illustrated.

I will present the process of experimenting with the use of metaphors during methodological classes and the obtained results, both at the content level (i.e. discovering metaphors for qualitative research) and at the procedural level (i.e. reconstructing ways of working with a metaphor in class), all of which also refers to, albeit indirectly, to research. At the same time, in the article, I make a definition-related distinction between two general types of qualitative research, which emerged while working with metaphors.

The purpose of the article is to analyze the idea of interdisciplinary research involving pastoral theology and sociology. This is one of the methodological proposals for research projects carried out under pastoral theology. Interdisciplinarity is understood as combining research methods for the cooperation of scientists from both disciplines in the process of planning, implementing and interpreting the results of empirical research. It is inspired by a problem identified in pastoral theology that requires exploration. The presentation consists of three parts. The first is devoted to the location of empirical research within pastoral theology. The second concerns the assumptions and significance of interdisciplinary research involving pastoral theologians and sociologists. In the final part, the areas of interdisciplinary cooperation among the research teams are pointed out. The potential of qualitative research as a space for cooperation among representatives of both sciences and as an important source of knowledge from the viewpoint of pastoral theology is shown. The comparative and synthetic method was used. The analysis shows that interdisciplinary research in the field of pastoral theology has great potential related to the acquisition and interpretation of multi-faceted empirical data and the designation of new research fields, which will significantly enrich the theological analysis process as well as the presentation and application of pastoral models.

Purpose – The main aim of the paper is to test to what degree information supplied to the job candidate by means of internet advertisement are realistic in Polish reality. Methodology – To achieve this aim, a study on 117 job advertisements for the position of recruiter, located on eleven job recruitment portals, was performed. 43 characteristic keywords were identified within each job ad. The next step involved comparing those results with the analysis of qualitative data gathered from three persons hired for the position of a recruiter at least two years ago. The data received from three recruiters were analyzed following Eisenhardt's (1989) suggestions and grounded theory approach. Findings – Research results reveal that majority of tasks performed in the position of recruiter were placed within recruitment advertisement. The tasks that were not enclosed in recruitment ads and indicated by recruiters as important are as follows: HR processes modeling, taking care of company blog and holding employee meetings. Research results suggest that, despite the notion of realistic job previews (RJPs), in Polish conditions they do not necessarily lead to dissatisfaction from the job in the three analyzed cases. Limitations – The main limitation of the paper is the restriction of realistic job previews to information regarding job duties and tasks of only one position – recruiter. The study signals RJP’s importance in Poland and we believe further research on the issue is necessary.

More specifically, this article attends to the use of video technology in qualitative research to reflect upon the material practices that not only make the world visible but also shed light on the research process through which such worlds become known. Reflections from research on institutions and institutional life are used to demonstrate points of interaction that transform the worlds of research and the worlds of everyday life.

The paper discovers the presence of abduction in teachers’ activities and emphasises the role of trichotomous systems (abduction, deduction, induction) in discovering human reality. The paper focuses on the presence of abduction in education sciences research, and its main goal is to detect abduction in teaching activities and classroom interaction. Abduction is a type of reasoning requiring philosophical, logical, and psychological background, distinct from induction and deduction, and it contributes to a viewpoint in social research that strives to make research in human reality easier to understand. The qualitative study involved explores the presence of abduction in teachers’ communication based on unstructured observation. The observation was carried out in a primary school. The objects of observation were the Geography, Art, and PE classes of the same teacher. The data of the class observation were recorded verbatim. The records were processed using an inductive, data-driven method after the classes. The reliability of the process was ensured by intracoding. The results of the observations reflect the presence of abduction in classroom interaction. The results showed that abduction appeared in the Geography, Art, and PE classes observed, and every class witnessed right and wrong abductive conclusions. The paper is relevant to anybody interested in the appearance of abduction in education sciences research and aims at completing the arsenal of tools available for analysing teachers’ activities.

Qualitative analysis was conducted concurrently on two subject groups engaged in the upbringing process: parents and their adult children. The narrations, analyzed “in pairs,” (n = 26) constituted the answers to the questions: (1) How did you raise your child? (2) How were you raised? The analysis of the narrations (using theory of literature devices) allowed for the isolation of elements of hidden stories (within the confines of a story within a story). As such, we considered communications containing the following information: implied and thematized – at a high level of literary communication and defined in time, told in free-flowing language in which the narrator’s distance is the smallest, as well as information which can be attributed to the addresser. Conducting discourse analysis on persons in monologue pairs allows us to compare whether the worlds presented (human activity, attributed roles, processes, states, experiences, times and places) are the same and alike.

This paper discusses issues related to the participation in culture of adults with moderate intellectual disabilities. The aim of this paper is to present the findings of a study interpreting and constructing participation in culture by members of this group. I was interested in how such people experience culture and how they interpret it and what significance they attach to its various manifestations. This piece of research was located in the current of constructivist and interpretative studies, which has enabled the application of the biographical method. The research project used four individual, in-depth and partially structured interviews and narrative analysis. The narratives told by the interviewees reveal the subjective sense and meaning imparted by people with intellectual disabilities to their own participation in culture. The narratives have shown the difficult adulthood and the resulting problems of everyday life. The biographies of adults with intellectual disabilities living with their parents show the complexity of adulthood and the resulting attributes. Due to the difficulties of everyday life, the reality constructed by the narrators is filled with regret, anger, disappointment, sadness and longing for normality. Negative emotions do not allow them to develop, to open up to people, to build relations with them. This results in a limited participation of adults with intellectual disabilities in culture in a broad sense of the word.

This article deals with social problems experienced by people who exclude certain groups of products from their everyday diet. These exclusions stem from various reasons and involve a range of everyday material and social practices. They evoke particular kinds of social interactions within the household, among hosts and guests, and also induce different reflexive interpretations of the participants. The aim of this paper is to explore the problem of how elimination diets are practised and explained on an everyday basis, and to describe particular strategies and techniques undertaken by food excluders in shops, in their kitchens, and at the table. The empirical basis for the qualitative investigation is a set of eight participant observations combined with in-depth interviews conducted with urban residents with higher education living in northern Poland.

Opis:
Many PhD students begin as unconscious Naturalists or Emotionalists using interview studies to report people’s “experience” of an unquestioned social “problem.” An analysis of articles in one journal shows that this naïve use of interview data has become the common currency of qualitative research. In a critique of one such article, I show how interview studies may simply reproduce interviewees’ own accounts, glossed over by a few social science categories. By “mining” interviews for apposite extracts, such researchers lose sight of how sequence is consequential for what we say and do. Much more needs to be done if qualitative research is not to be just a set of techniques but an analytic project, different from journalism.

The starting point of this article is the relationship of art and science from the perspective of epistemological and ontological insights of philosophers of science and researchers of contemporary art. Further on, the author presents the specificity of the interaction of art and pedagogy, in which the complex subject of the latter opens the field to various sources, styles and languages of knowing and understanding of the world and the human being (including the language of the arts). Seeing art as an important exploration tool for the analysis of education in qualitative pedagogical research, the author summarizes the assumptions of visual ethnography – a research method that, as she explains, oscillates between art and science (with its methodological appeal to the image as the primary medium of the art). In the conclusion, she indicates cognitive and practical benefits which may result from using the concepts that derive from the arts as a source of knowledge about the educational reality.

The aim of the article is to describe the situation of mothers who face alcohol problems of their adult children. We are primarily interested in female narratives, which are a reflection on the situation of mothers connected with adult children addicted to alcohol. We are trying to touch upon the essence of maternal experience. The inspiration for this presentation of the problem was a visible gap in the research carried out in the field of social sciences, which would concern directly the parents of harmful drinkers. The stage of designing and conducting the research, as well as the process of analyzing the collected empirical data, allowed for in-depth reflection on the experiences of the narrators in the context of femininity and motherhood.

Przykłady zastosowania takich metod ukazano w prezentowanym artykule.
In the research within the pedagogy of labour, there is the need to broaden the choice of research methods. Both quantitative and qualitative methods may be in question. It can be assumed that such methods will prove useful as far as the issues of the pedagogy of labour are concerned. The pedagogy of labour, due to its specific scope and issues, is suited for using qualitative research methods to a large extent. The article presents examples of using this kind of methods.

Opis:
Questioning the epistemological assumptions of positivism and hermeneutics, postmodernism has had a huge impact on the methodology of qualitative research. Not only genres and research roles, but also the boundaries between disciplines have been blurred, as the example of art-based-research (ABR) shows. In ABR, researchers use artistic forms of expression at different stages of data collection, analysis, and presentation. The question of merging the art with science can be analyzed on different levels. In this article, I would like to focus on: 1. explaining the main epistemological and methodological assumptions of ABR; 2. discussing the function of ABR in the social construction of knowledge; 3. specifying the criteria which help evaluate the quality of ABR as well as the difficulties associated with conducting such studies.

Is it possible to look at something without actually noticing it? Is it possible to see something in the picture that is not really there? The answers to these philosophical questions can be obtained by comparing the results of eye-tracking tests combined with interviews based on sociological theories. The answers, however, have more than the philosophical dimension in that they can provide insight into everyday processes of social perception and its application, also for commercial purposes. In the design phase of the present study, we chose a popular advertising folder available for free for the average consumer. While showing the selected photographs to the respondents (all the pictures included people portrayed during everyday activities), we asked them to pay particular attention to the situations presented. Afterwards, each participant took part in a standardised interview. In our view, the conclusions formulated on the basis of the obtained results are relevant not only to the investigated catalogue, but can also be treated as an indicator of how people usually browse through advertisements and what kind of inferences they make about the world on that basis. While most attention should be given to watching the advertisements, we constitute our dreams of a perfect life, environment and the items that furnish it.

An increased interest in qualitative research is connected with the revival of the discussion on reliability and credibility of research conducted by qualitative methods. The aim of the article is to present certain selected issues related to conducting qualitative research. Relatively common research methods used in this area are a case study and, well established in the literature on educational research, participatory action research. Other important methods are observations and interviews that are often used as a way of collecting qualitative data, which, supplemented by actual writing, are already recognized as research methods. Finally, the article describes problems of researcher’s positioning towards subjects and the social justice pedagogy based on the concept of service learning (learning in the service of society).

Content presented in this article is focused on the reflection of the factors determining the choice of research strategy in the analysis of school environment. Some of the elements to be examined refer to the structural and functional model of a school, others to the interpretative model. As the assumptions about the nature of school reality are completely different within these models, depending on how the school is perceived, there are different ways of designing and conducting research. It is arguable whether derived from a structural and functional model of school (the school as an environment education, positivist paradigm) only quantitative analysis are justified, and after the adoption of the interactive model (the school as a system of socio-cultural, interpretative paradigm) only qualitative research should be conducted? The choice, at the first glance, quite obvious is a matter of more complex, because the strategy of research procedure also depends on some another factors: the order in which the study is carried out, the subject and the scope of the analysis, the experience of the researcher and to some extent, to the fact who are beneficients of the results. In the first part of this article author is trying to deal with these relationships, in the second part, there are presented a few examples of analysis when using qualitative methods or strategies. Most of them are realized within the model of so-called mixed research. They are only some examples presented and they should be understood as exemplifications, not in –depth exploration. Described problems might be explained and explored in the future using other methods and techniques, as well as combining them.

We will show some interpretations of trust from two perspectives: symbolic interactionist research and phenomenological qualitative research. Trust could be interpreted in many ways. Generally, the cognitive and “rational” approach prevails in researching trust in social sciences. The everyday life connotation of trust that is created by chance or in unpredictable situations because of unknown and unpredictable conditions could be treated by such research as “irrational”; however, we are interested in those meanings of trust and their research in this paper. The symbolic interactionist perspective will help us to see how the subjective interpretation and situational features influence the creation of trust or distrust. We will analyze trust as an interactive phenomenon. The phenomenological approach could show us the essential features of trust and also its embeddedness in the lifeworld of participants. We will see how the lifeworld is maintained or refused, how routine activities are the basis of trust, and how existential security is created.

Sex and sexuality are deemed “sensitive” issues in relatively conservative, predominantly Muslim countries. Men’s sex and sexualities research within such cultural contexts confronts certain challenges and raises important methodological issues. This paper reflects on some of the methodological issues and challenges encountered when carrying out a study in Bangladesh. It reports on a male researcher’s qualitative study of men’s sexual health and masculinity in Bangladesh, a predominantly Muslim country where sexuality is largely constituted as a taboo subject. The researcher faced challenges in gaining access and in discussing sex and sexuality issues in interview settings. Moreover, the interview context emerged as a site for expressing, negotiating, challenging men and masculinities. Drawing upon experiences in navigating the “field” in Bangladesh, some of the useful ways of researching “sensitive” issues such as sex, sexuality, and masculinity within these settings are suggested, highlighting what works when researching men’s sexual health and masculinity.

To investigate the health benefits of companion animals in a way that goes beyond finding statistical patterns involves appreciating the philosophical debates about the nature of animal consciousness that engage an inter-disciplinary field of scholarship cutting across the Great Divide of the hard sciences and humanities. It also requires developing a methodology to conduct empirical research which is often viewed as of secondary importance by researchers wishing to make a philosophical case about human beings and modernity. This paper considers the achievements of qualitative sociologists, particularly in the field of post-Meadian symbolic interactionism who have addressed these issues, and discusses ways of extending and deepening this agenda through crossfertilization with similar work in ethnomethodology, conversation analysis and post-humanist sociology in investigating the health benefits of dogs.

The article presents the evaluation stages of qualitative research within the constructivist approach. The stages can be placed on a continuum and treated as the obverse and reverse of the same internally diverse phenomenon. Differences described in analyses of individual development stages of these criteria are related to major influences of different paradigms. The whole allows us to see the crystallisation of the research practice that has different values depending on its version. During the first stage, criteria of research evaluation are strongly influenced by the positivist and post-positivist paradigms. In the second stage, they become a direct emanation of proper constructivist assumptions. In the following stage, one can see the process of gradual emancipation of the research practice from the straitjacket of fixed assumptions; when each time researchers make pragmatic assumptions, they select a set of specific criteria of research quality. During the final stage, the researcher is rehabilitated as the most important instrument of cognition. Verifiability of such research refers to the researcher’s skills and sensitivity, self-control, and interpersonal exchange of knowledge. The evaluation criteria developed in the article can be treated as guidelines supporting the process of designing and conducting qualitative research. Their application might contribute to maintaining high quality of research.

Opis:
Children’s rights should be applicable for children, and be acknowledged by children themselves and practice them in the present and future lives. The increasing awareness and concern about children’s rights need a thorough investigation of how children themselves understand their rights. The aim of this study is to analyze the perspective of children in Lebanon of their rights and examine the impact of democratic movements on their understanding of their rights. A qualitative research methodology was employed and data were gathered in the form of semi-structured VoIP interviews. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the collected data. The analysis presented in this paper signifies that the democratic movements are being both a source and an approach of recognizing and practising children’s rights, especially the right to participate, freedom of expression, and equality, along with the right to education, social security, and protection from all forms of abuse. Hence, it could be concluded that democratic movements are important in constructing and reconstructing children’s understanding of their rights.

Opis:
In recent years, discourse in education sciences has focussed on the study of the reflective thinking of teachers. Researchers, however, do not agree on how the reflective thinking of teachers can be measured. This qualitative study looks for an answer to the question whether a cognitive map is suitable for the discovery of teachers’ reflections. The study analyses the reflections of a secondary school teacher of mathematics using an unstructured cognitive map. The sample was selected on the basis of availability. The analysis of the map was done deductively, in a concept-driven way, on the basis of the number of contacts (edges) and concepts, central, peripheral and isolated concepts and their degrees, and the levels of the map. The teacher involved was recorded commenting on the process of map-making, which was then transferred to writing. The text corpus was then analysed inductively, in a data-driven way. The results show that the teacher interpreted his own activity - which depends on pedagogical knowledge, beliefs and pedagogical situations - in a complex manner. The filter function of beliefs can be observed when the teacher’s activities and thinking did not match because some internal and external factors. The data from the map contributed to analysis of reflections and the analysis of the map added new elements to existing techniques.

Opis:
In today’s complex and ever changing economic environment an organisation can only be successful, if it can meet the needs of its stakeholders. There is an even bigger ethical, social, legal and strategic pressure on the economic and social organisations. This also stands for not only the profi t-oriented corporations but also for budget authorities and any other public organisations. Several organisations have recognised the infl uence of the stakeholders and have tried to meet their needs. That means that they operate a CSR policy on a volunteer base, as the only way for survival. The CSR is not a separate task, nowadays the management of the stakeholders is part of the strategic management, as at times the interests of different groups must be attended. The present study deals with the infl uence of stakeholders on the CSR practice, it also introduces the differences in stakeholder relationship among corporations of different sizes as well as examining the characteristics of the different actors. Based on the results of the qualitative research it can be stated that a signifi cant difference can be found in the stakeholder relationship of the small- and medium size enterprises (SMEs) and of large corporations. The large corporations build their relationship in signifi cantly higher ratio with the nationwide stakeholder, whereas the SMEs encourage communication with the local stakeholders and neglect those nationwide stakeholders that are out of their operational scope. This can be said about the public sector as well, that is large corporations prefer the interaction with this sector at a higher ratio. However, it is a common characteristic of all Hungarian enterprises that they value the relationship with stakeholders of environmental importance more than the communication with stakeholders of social importance.

Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis
Opis:
This paper examines some of the key cultural concepts and relevant historical factors that may shape the development of Anglo-Cypriot gay identity. Accounts of sexual identity experiences provided by second generation Greek and Turkish Cypriot gay men in London are examined in the light of this analysis to explore how these men negotiate Anglo-Cypriot and gay identity. Twenty-eight self-identified second generation Greek and Turkish gay men living in London were recruited by advertising in the gay press, by writing to community groups, and gay groups and organizations and by “snowballing.” In-depth face-to-face interviews were conducted with those men recruited through these channels. Data were subjected to interpretative phenomenological analysis. The personal accounts of these men demonstrate that their sexual identity does not always become their primary identity and that different identities are constructed by individuals at different places and times. Most men indicated that the translation of their sexual desires and behaviors into the “political statement” of gay identity is not only difficult but is strongly resisted. Instead they chose to construct their identity in terms of their relationships with their families, their peers at work and other members of their community. The findings of this research may help develop an understanding of the complexities surrounding the “sexual and cultural” identities of Anglo-Cypriot gay men, thereby reinforcing the notion that identity is multiple, contested and contextual.

Introduction and aim. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare workers continue to work selflessly and intensively despite many occupational hazards. Although various studies have been carried out to evaluate the experiences of nurses who play an important role in the fight against the pandemic and the effects thereof, qualitative studies carried out using the photovoice technique are very limited. The aim of this study was to evaluate the experiences of nurses working during the COVID-19 pandemic and show the impact that COVID-19 has had on nurses’ work and daily life using creative photographic data. Material and methods. This qualitative study employed a participatory action research design, and photovoice technique was used. Research data were collected from nurses working in COVID-19 clinics of various hospitals between May and September 2021. Data analysis was performed via a phenomenological interpretation method. Results. Five themes emerged from the data: (1) burnout, (2) anxiety, (3) social isolation, (4) emphasis on professional value, and (5) the value of life. Each theme was presented with representative photographic and written narratives provided by the participants. Conclusion. The findings of this study suggest that nurses experience problems such as burnout, anxiety, and social isolation. All the participants associated these problems with the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on work and daily life. On the other hand, the participants emphasized professional value and the value of life despite all the negativities and risks.

Current library instructions, textbooks do not adequately address children, because they do not consider children’s (pre)conceptions about information literacy. Using qualitative methods this research tries to describe conceptual frameworks, distinctions to support a more efficient and constructivist library instruction. In our opinion research does not result in adaptive information about conceptions, if the research subject does not investigate relationships from the point of view of information and information literacy generally and in terms of some preferred resources. This study emphasizes a relationship between libraries and learning in children’s conceptions. Four types of conceptions were revealed in this specific sub-field, which influence preparing for autonomous learning and lifelong learning.

Globalisation in education sector, intense competition between universities in Latvia, increase in requirements of applied teaching from private companies, growing exactingness from students – it all makes base to improve University curricula using different active teaching techniques for better knowledge capture. In the case study of University of Latvia tourism study programme authors included practice of active teaching method application used to improve student understanding and competences including research, surveys, observations, shadowing, monitoring and register of the tourist tracks, expert interviews and industry seminars, discussions and interviews with industry stakeholders, field trips, different tourism sector enterprise and organisation visits inspections, colloquiums, research result presentations in seminars and conferences, knowledge enhancing for sustainability, best practices and systems used by other countries. Many of active learning methods are as additional activities for students not included in the compulsory part of studies, therefore it is needed to establish an additional separate entity for tourism and sustainability activities for applied teaching and research at university – Tourism and Sustainability Research Laboratory. Separate research entity gives possibility to involve interested students from different study programmes and cooperation with other faculties.

Research Paradigm Considerations for Emerging Scholars (2021), edited by Anja Pabel, Josephine Pryce, and Allison Anderson, published by Channel View Publication (DOI: 10.21832/9781845418281), is notable among methodological publications for its scientific openness and permission to experimentation in the research process. The book’s target audience is postgraduate HDRs, emerging scholars and higher-degree supervisors, lecturers in methodology seeking to enhance their reflexivity. According to the authors, it is the reflexive approach that differentiates this book from other methodological books, especially those intended for researchers who are in the process of development regardless of their academic status. Among Polish methodological books there is no publication which as clearly as the book Research Paradigm Considerations… encourages the development of cognitive research curiosity by applying and developing already known paradigms but also by modifying them depending on the socio-cultural context of the research. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for practical applications of paradigms, but the subject of their research cannot be clearly categorized.

Process-tracing is a method of within-case analysis, which can provide causal explanations of various social phenomena. Its focus on developing and testing causal theories attracts interest among qualitative researchers who do not want to limit their inquiries to exploratory or descriptive aims. At the same time, the case-centric variant of process-tracing, in which theories are used pragmatically as heuristic devices, provides a systematic but also creative way of researching singular events and processes. This paper attempts to show what process-tracing is and what it is not, what its variants are and how they should be used. It also probes the ontological and epistemological limits of the method, by showing how it can be used in idealist and interpretive research.

The article concerns the methodological and theoretical aspects of research carried out in the environment of intellectually disabled people. The issues of intellectual disability pose a challenge for researchers; individuals with an intellectual disability constitute a specific group, the research of which requires an interpretative approach, that is, open and flexible research methods. Therefore, the main stress in the article is on proving the usefulness of the interpretative perspective, along with the advantages of adopting the grounded theory methodology to research this category of people. These approaches make it possible to adjust the research strategy to the characteristics of the explored research area. They allow for in-depth analysis of empirical data and thus create conditions for an accurate depiction of the researched environment. Making reference to research on the environment of intellectually disabled people, the usefulness of grounded theory methodology procedures was assessed in a broader context of research conducted in the interpretative paradigm.

Active professionalism is a modern notion in the discussion on teacher professionalism, which imposes on teachers the need to research the educational context in which they work and engage in their own professional development. Teachers are expected to inquire into their practice and reflect on their own experience, to actively direct their professional learning and deliberately go beyond their current abilities. The paper presents research conducted among 14 language teacher educators with the use of semi-structured interviews together with a study of their mind-maps and scientific and didactic publications. The target group was selected by snowball sampling. The author describes the research findings in which she finds two strategies of active learning performed by the teacher educators (remedial strategy and exploratory strategy). The first aims at improving the learning outcomes, and the latter focuses on self-improvement.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to examine possibilities of using the experience of the qualitative social research in developing more complex interpretation methods of participatory projects in theatre and performance art. Departing from the classical essay On Ethnographic Authority by James Clifford which traces different strategies that researchers use to represent the field reality in their writing, the author introduces the qualitative research trend and its reflexion. The author refers to different ways of how qualitative researchers argue with the traditional hegemony of the scientific text, its isolation from the field and from the community being researched, and the way it creates the hierarchy between them and the researcher. Such strategies from qualitative methodologies, such as grounded theory, triangulation of methods and points of views, attempts to share control on the research process with the local participants and to include polyphony in the texts are presented as inspiring for the analysis of participatory practices. The author compares the lesson learnt from qualitative research with the theses of Claire Bishop in her well-known book Artificial Hells: Participatory Art and the Politics of Spectatorship. According to the author, the perspective of qualitative research can be interpreted as a new attempt at thinking about social and artistic, ethic and aesthetic dimensions of the participatory projects, which is a crucial issue for Bishop.

The typology (profiles) of the leaders, their constraints and strength are revealed and discussed. The leaders give much importance to their struggle for autonomy and overcoming constraints. They are familiar with the different models of “optimal leadership.” Their profiles and sources of leadership strength are examined within the framework of the “bounded leadership theory.”
