Opis:
The fact that companies are constantly subjected to changes creates challenges connected with constant learning and acquiring knowledge. Companies are forced to act in accordance with the generative strategy. Besides realizing the traditional tasks of production or service, companies need to acquire and process knowledge and apply it in practice. The consequence of these changes is the transformation of contemporary enterprises into knowledge-based organizations, with managers increasingly recognizing the role and importance of the concept of knowledge management in creating enterprises competitiveness. The main aim of the article is identification of knowledge management in production enterprises.

Opis:
"As an intervention into a domesticated academic knowledge production and an increasingly normative queer theorizing, Queer Indiscipline, Decolonial Revolt asks for the proliferation of other modalities of thinking and writing. The context of such interrogation is the neoliberal restructuring of the university which comfortably accommodates criticality. Where criticality has lost its sting, this paper calls for a daring indiscipline opposing political, public, and scientific disciplining. This brings practices of doing knowledge and not the knowledges as such into attention. An intimacy between the queer and the undisciplined is established by referencing the resistance to assimilationist politics and practices as queer theory’s principal asset. Yet, undisciplined knowledges are not only geared towards challenging the bounds of the discipline(s), but also, and more broadly, towards decolonial futures. Queer Indiscipline, Decolonial Revolt explores various moments of concomitant unlearning and improvisation on and beyond the academic stage. The piece conducts three non-linear explorations. The first part analyzes the making of a hierarchical knowledge machine as part of capitalist modernity and revisits moments of queer and black queer theorizing that challenge the dividing lines between high/low, sensible/nonsensical, intellectual/corporeal, theory/practice, speech/chatter, etc. The second part discusses the masterful subject as the agent of knowledge. While the persistence and the pervasiveness of such master fantasy gets acknowledged, the verve of this paper is oriented towards the modality of queer dispossession. The final section gives way to the sabotage inherent in the unruly rhythm of life. Such sabotage is tested to counteract the frameworks, formats and concepts which articulate intellectuality on a more fundamental level. This advances the deconstruction of intellectuality to the terrifying and beautiful point where intellectuality is co-extensive with the social."

Opis:
The present work represents an extrapolation of W.I. Thomas and Florian Znaniecki’s study, The Polish Peasant in Europe and America, on behalf of the development of sociological theory. The article focuses on careers and institutions in higher education. The curriculum vitae serves as the novel human document by which to investigate both social and personal change. Academic careers are studied by virtue of their objective and subjective dimensions. Objectively, the institution of education is revealed through the shifting expectations that govern work in academia in specific historical times (indicated by the cohort in which academics earned their Ph.D.s) and in specific socially bound places (indicated by the type of university in which academics work). Major social change in education is likely to spell personal change for the way in which people subjectively experience the contemporary academic career. The data come from U.S.-based academics; parallel transformational changes are observable globally. The global change discussed in the work centres on the diffusion and institutionalization of the research role. The sources and consequences of this change are problematic. Akin to Thomas and Znaniecki’s larger analytic aims, patterns of change are used inductively to formulate theory: the paper culminates by postulating a theory of increasing tendencies in the way knowledge is produced in higher education institutions throughout the world.

every scientific discipline, every university and college, every institute, every research project, every researcher is, due to the “double-faced conception of science” (dear, 2005, p. 404), confronted with the question of the relationship of scientific autonomy and scientific relevance (utility, applicability). T he fields of educational science in particular are rooted in this double horizon of expectation. The theoretical handling of the difference of autonomy and accountability is therefore also an ongoing theme and the theories offered take the following three directions: to choose one or the other, to unite both poles in harmony or to tolerate the conflict-causing dual membership. In this article another assumption will be made other than the separation, harmonisation or oscillation theory, namely that scientific and practice discourse complement each other: the question of utility serves the question of truth and vice versa.

Realising that human geography has been defined less by its canonical works but rather by its canonical concepts, the current status of the concept ‘rural’ puts a question mark over progress in human geography in terms of how well we have been able to adapt knowledge to reciprocate with societal change at large. As one of the oldest geographical concepts still in widespread use, ‘rural’ stands in stark contrast to the immense changes encountered by the society during the last century, let alone decades. And while this problem has been approached both empirically and philosophically, not enough stress has been put on the cognitive and sociological processes that have governed the attainment and retention of ‘rural’ in science, and beyond. In this vein, the aim of this paper is to provide a structured argument for facilitating a view of ‘rural’ less as a geographical space and more as a concept purportedly thought to define such space by way of inculcation.

Michel Foucault is certainly one of the greatest minds of the 20th century whose ever-growing influence may be traced in nearly every field of humanities such as economy, history, and of course, literary theory and criticism. The concept of heterotopia is arguably among the most intriguing concepts developed through the works of Foucault. Simply stated, a heterotopia is a space whose function is to disturb the established order of an existing space, and, as a result, lead to the production of knowledge. However, heterotopias found in Foucault’s own works are usually functioning in linguistic, or textual, terms rather than referring to a real, physical space. The purpose of the present essay is to provide its readers with the analyses of some of the poems of the Noble-winning Irish poet, dramatist, and prose writer W. B. Yeats in terms of their heterotopic qualities, and to show that physical heterotopias can also lead to the production of knowledge

The paper examines the effects of intra- and inter-regional knowledge spillovers on innovative activities in German states using the augmented Griliches-Jaffe knowledge production function. The “Harris market potential” type index is calculated to proxy for inter-regional knowledge transfers of two types: industrial knowledge transfers generated from the business enterprise sector and academic spillovers generated from universities across all German states. The model also includes the concentration of high-tech enterprises, in order to capture the agglomeration effect in the local economy. The estimation results reveal that not only do local private and university research efforts have a positive and significant effect on local innovative activities, but there are also important interregional knowledge spillovers across the German regions.

Many professionals I have taught in the past twenty years complained that classes are too theoretical and far removed from reality. They were generally correct in their assessment. Frustrated by my active participation in the pedagogical status quo, a few years ago I decided to rapture the cycle of pedagogical passivity by engaging parents as active participants in conversations with students. These intermittent attempts have now developed into an eight ECTS study-unit that will create a community of learning and practice committed to welding critical reflection with action.

The text presents the course and conclusions of the discussion on evaluation of research in social sciences and humanities. The results of social sciences and humanities research can, on the one hand, be of significant local importance, and, on the other, require an appropriate international context. These conflicting trends are difficult to balance. A further difficulty is the attempt to reduce the evaluation of research results in social sciences and humanities to the effects of publication in ranking journals. This trend gives rise to many pathological phenomena (related, for example, to the increase in the cost of publication in journals and other ranked publications). The dominance of the ranking system of journals within the framework of financing scientific disciplines has negative impacts on aspects of academic activity beyond the publication of research results. Teaching activities and university relations with the wider world may suffer. In the course of the discussion an attempt is made to respond to these threats.
W tekście przedstawiono przebieg oraz wnioski z dyskusji dotyczącej sposobów ewaluacji badań naukowych w naukach społecznych i humanistycznych. Wyniki badań w naukach społecznych i humanistycznych z jednej strony mogą mieć istotne znaczenie lokalne, a z drugiej wymagają odpowiedniego kontekstu międzynarodowego. Te kolidujące tendencje trudne są do pogodzenia. Kolejna trudność polega na próbie sprowadzenia oceny wyników badań naukowych w naukach społecznych i humanistycznych do efektów publikacji w czasopismach punktowanych.

This paper tries to find how firms use IPRs in the form of patents to protect innovation capital and find determinants of their effectiveness. The research is based on a large sample of 2960 Polish manufacturing firms that were engaged in developing and/or implementing a product or process innovation in the years 2010–2012. Besides descriptive statistics which show firms’ attitudes toward the effectiveness of patents and their determinants, I apply the knowledge production function to find a link between patent propensity, R&D and innovation performance. Descriptive analyses show that Polish manufacturing firms rarely use patents as the appropriability mechanism, which results in the low level of their perceived effectiveness. It also turns out that the perceived effectiveness of a patent depends on a firm’s size, the innovation type and technological opportunities. In turn, the results of the knowledge production function estimation allow me to conclude that an increase in patent propensity affects the firm’s innovation performance positively.

Z jednej strony pozwoli to uniknąć sprowadzenia zjawisk w polu nauki wyłącznie do poziomu ekonomicznego, z drugiej zaś da szansę przemyśleć zależność, w jakiej pozostają do siebie nauka i gospodarka. Dopiero tak skonstruowana rama teoretyczna daje możliwość uchwycenia mechanizmów wytwarzania hierarchizujących podziałów w globalnej nauce takich jak ten na centrum i peryferia.
This article is one of the voices in the discussion on the semi-peripheral nature of knowledge production systems, inspired by the publication of Gra peryferyjna by Tomasz Warczok and Tomasz Zarycki. The authors focus on the methodological challenges facing the analysis  of the nature of science systems from the perspective of the global division of labour. As a possible solution to the current difficulties, they indicate the need for a symmetrical synthesis of the theoretical perspectives of Pierre Bourdieu and Immanuel Wallerstein. On the one hand, such perspective avoids viewing phenomena in the field of science only through the economic lense, and on the other, it makes possible to rethink the dependence in which science and the economy remain. Only such theoretical framework enables to capture the mechanisms of creating hierarchical divisions in global science, such as the centre and periphery.

The subject of the article is the work of women artists, aiming to produce knowledge and reflection in order to change the social reality in which they live. The author invokes the report Little Chance to Advance? An Inquiry into the Presence of Women in Art Academies in Poland (by the Katarzyna Kozyra Foundation) in order to introduce the difficult and unfair work conditions for female artists in art academies. She attempts to recognize other cultural and social conditions of women’s roles within the Polish artworld by analysing the artistic practices of Elżbieta Jabłońska, Joanna Wowrzeczka and Julia Popławska. All these female artists raise questions about their work and the work of other women - living in two spaces: public and private. Their experience is doubly underprivileged – as women – they are worse paid, they are burdened by cultural stereotypes (connected with female-male oppositions like female nature – male culture, what is male is more valuable), they don’t have access to as many jobs and social positions, etc. As female artists they are often treated in a condescending manner, they are not often promoted within art academies, female art is viewed as less rational, less important, and as a consequence – notoriously under-funded. Wondering about these socio-cultural contexts the author attempts to point out the cognitive dimension of art and knowledge with regard to the gendered division of work.

The internet is treated as the present-day agora of information and knowledge. The purpose of this article is to characterise the internet as a global information and knowledge market. The paper presents components and specific features of the internet, the internaut's place on that market, and the existing threats to information and knowledge. Special attention is devoted to commercialisation, globalisation, diversification and internal contradictions occurring on that market, as well the evaluation of information and knowledge in market terms. On that background, the Polish experiences of building that agora are presented, as part of fulfilling the conception of an information and knowledge society, because the market power of information and knowledge sometimes raises controversy in Poland, which fact determines the uniqueness of the Polish contribution to the task of developing our global information and knowledge market.
