The objective of this study is to analyze the effect of volume ratio of heat rejection process on the performance of dual cycle. Using finite-time thermodynamics, the relations between the volume ratio of heat rejection, the thermal efficiency, the power output, the heat transfer losses, the friction power and the compression ratio for an air standard Atkinson cycle have been derived. In the model, the nonlinear relation between the specific heats of working fluid and its temperature, the frictional loss and heat leakage loss are considered. The results show that the power output and the thermal efficiency first increase with the increase of volume ratio of heat rejection process and then start to decrease. The optimum value of the volume ratio of heat rejection which maximizes the power output is higher than that which maximizes the thermal efficiency, while the optimum value of the compression ratio which maximizes the power output is lower than that which maximizes the thermal efficiency. The results obtained in the present study provide guidance to the performance evaluation and improvement for practical internal combustion engines.

The boiler is an enclosed vessel that transfers the energy from fuel combustion or electricity into hot water or steam. Then, this hot water or pressurized steam is used for transferring the heat to a certain heat process. Usually, the required hot water or steam keeps on varying throughout the day which also may be implied on the daily or monthly load. Therefore, several configurations of connecting the boiler into the solar heating system ensure the temperature of the final output. The boiler can be connected in series or parallel to improve the efficiency of the overall process as well as to reduce the running costs. This paper presents a simulation study of a solar heating system for industrial processes. Two flow-heater system configurations are designed for covering the heat demand of a pasteurising factory existing in Budapest, Hungary. The configuration “A” consists of a solar heating system for hot water preparation using in series flow heater configuration. While configuration “B” consists of the same solar system but with a parallel flow heater configuration. These system configurations are modelled using T*sol software for evaluating the system performance under the Hungarian climate from five different aspects: required collector area, glycol ratio, volume flow rate, relative tank capacity, and tank height-to-diameter ratio. According to the optimum design parameters, in series configuration is better than parallel by 3.14% at 45 m² collector area, 0.45% at 25% glycol ratio, 0.42% at 50 l/h · m² volume flow rate, 2.05% at 50 l/m² relative tank capacity, and 0.42% at 1.8 tank height-to-diameter ratio respectively. The results show that in series configuration is better in terms of solar fractions than parallel configuration from all five aspects.

The objective of this paper is to present the investigations of the heat transfer process carried out by means of the multi-ribbon mixer. It is shown that the heat transfer process for the synergic effect of the mixing process and the flowing liquid through the mixer has significantly higher values of the heat transfer coefficients than the mixer with motionless impellers. The empirical correlations between the heat transfer coefficient and the operational parameters obtained in this work can provide guidance for the design and operation of an apparatus equipped with the multi-ribbon impeller. These empirical correlations can be used to predict the heat transfer coefficient for the multi-ribbon mixer.

Opis:
In the present elaboration, problems connected with measurements of high variable temperatures of gases are introduced and the impact of dynamic properties of different construction solutions of thermoelements on the accuracy of the measurements is considered. A laboratory stand built within research under doctoral thesis, destined for analysis of dynamic properties of thermocouples is also described. Results of numerical simulation of heat exchange between thermocouple and the gas that washes it (in this case - hot air) is presented as well as results of empirical experiments conducted on the laboratory stand built with the analysis of the obtained results.

In the paper a new, state space, non integer order model for one dimensional heat transfer process is presented. The model is based on known semigroup model. The derivative with respect to time is described by the non integer order Caputo operator, the spatial derivative is described by integer order operator. The elementary properties of the state operator are proven. The solution of state equation is calculated with the use of Laplace transform. Results of experiments show, that the proposed model is more accurate than analogical integer order model in the sense of square cost function.

Opis:
The main aim of this work is to study the thermal efficiency of a new type of a static mixer and to analyse the flow and temperature patterns and heat transfer efficiency. The measurements were carried out for the static mixer equipped with a new mixing insert. The heat transfer enhancement was determined by measuring the temperature profiles on each side of the heating pipe as well as the temperature field inside the static mixer. All experiments were carried out with varying operating parameters for four liquids: water, glycerol, transformer oil and an aqueous solution of molasses. Numerical CFD simulations were carried out using the two-equation turbulence k-ω model, provided by ANSYS Workbench 14.5 software. The proposed CFD model was validated by comparing the predicted numerical results against experimental thermal database obtained from the investigations. Local and global convective heat transfer coefficients and Nusselt numbers were detrmined. The relationship between heat transfer process and hydrodynamics in the static mixer was also presented. Moreover, a comparison of the thermal performance between the tested static mixer and a conventional empty tube was carried out. The relative enhancement of heat transfer was characterised by the rate of relative heat transfer intensification.

Elements of Modern ships' main combustion driven engines are subject to immense heat and mechanical loads. It is therefore advisable to supervise the regularity of heat generation in engine 's cylinder s. In order to diagnose the process of heat generation in engine's cylinder s, this article propagates the use of momentmetre. Described method allows estimating faulty combustion on the basis of autocorrelation of moment temporary values on the shaft after three successive rotations. The paper brings to attention how the work of diesel engine may be usedfor estimation of combustion process correctness in this engine cylinder. The work of diesel engine is connected with transfer of effective energy to ship propeller during its operation. Due to accidental naturę of combustion inside engine cylinder s it stochastic internally stationary process. To say more it is stochastic internally stationary process with ergodic feature. It makes possible to describe expected engine work by means of stochastic second order characteristics. They are autocorrelation functions and spectrum density of self power functions depending on time and frequency. Both above mentioned functions are uniquely connected with combustion in engine cylinders and it is possible to estimate the correctness of engine operation. It is also possible to estimate if the work of engine in given sail conditions is equal to reguirements of imposed tasks. If this reguirement is not met in the case of one propeller ship it can lead to the loss of ship stability and as a result can cause the ship sink.

The paper contains an analysis of the operational process of heat supply system with taking into consideration its reliability. The specific character of the operation of heat-supply systems has been considered in this work. In the process of the exploitation of heat-supply systems there have been distinguished five operational states, assuming as a criterion of the level of indoor temperature decrease in residential rooms. The method of modelling the operational reliability of heat-supply systems is worked out. The methodology of determining the overall index of heat-supply system reliability has been presented. The measure of heat-supply system reliability has been assumed as the scale/quantity of inadequate supply of heat power at a given state. Calculations have been carried out regarding the changeability of exterior conditions for one of the groups of customers – residential users. On the basis of the operational data for the heat supply system with two heat sources shortage quantities of heat power and the probability of their occurrence have been calculated as an application of this methodology.

To investigate the effect of reactor performance/configuration of biodiesel production on process parameters (mass & energy consumption, required facilities etc.), two diverse production processes (from vegetable oil) were implemented/designed using Aspen HYSYS V7.2. Two series reactors were taken into account where overall conversion was set to be 97.7% and 70% in first and second processes respectively. Comparative analysis showed that an increase in conversion yield caused to consumption reduction of oil, methanol, cold energy and hot energy up to 9.1%, 22%, 67.16% and 60.28% respectively; further, a number of facilities (e.g. boiler, heat exchanger, distillation tower) were reduced. To reduce mass & energy consumption, mass/heat integration method was employed. Applying integration method showed that in the first design, methanol, cold and hot energy were decreased by 49.81%, 17.46% and 36.17% respectively; while in the second design, oil, methanol, cold and hot energy were decreased by 9%, 60.57% 19.62% and 36.58% respectively.

Thermal and differential analysis (TDA) is often used as a tool for quantitative estimation of solidification parameters of alloys (e.g. temperatures corresponding to the beginning and the end of phase change, kinetics of latent heat evolution, etc). TDA system offers a possibility of observation of the cooling (heating) rate, which means that the course of derivative ∂T/∂t can be analyzed. In this paper, the identification of alloy latent heat on the basis of additional information resulting from TDA measurements is discussed. At the stage of numerical modelling, the finite difference method (FDM) is used, the examples of computations are also shown.
Analiza termiczno-derywacyjna (ATD) stanowi efektywne narzędzie ilościowej oceny parametrów krzepnięcia stopów odlewniczych (np. temperatury początku i końca krzepnięcia, kinetyki wydzielania się ciepła przemiany, itd.). Urządzenie ATD daje możliwość obserwacji krzywych stygnięcia (nagrzewania) oraz szybkości tych procesów, czyli można również obserwować zmiany pochodnej temperatury względem czasu (∂T/∂t ). W niniejszej pracy rozpatruje się zadanie dotyczące identyfikacji utajonego ciepła krzepnięcia stopów na podstawie informacji wynikających z pomiarów realizowanych urządzeniem ATD. Na etapie obliczeń numerycznych wykorzystano metodę różnic skończonych dla nieliniowych zadań nieustalonego przewodzenia ciepła. W końcowej części pracy przedstawiono wyniki identyfikacji utajonego ciepła krzepnięcia staliwa.

Breakdown of rolling stock axle-boxes if not detected in due time may cause a rail accident or disaster. At present, a lot of advanced technologies, modern equipment and devices, which “recognizes” faulty axle-boxes when the train is in motion, have been implemented. However, the timely identification of breakdown of rolling stock axle-boxes still is an acute problem, the initial stage of damage emergence being especially problematic. Presently, rolling stock axle-box breakdown is determined according to the higher than permissible temperature of the axle-box body. The article provides statistical data of dangerously heated axle-boxes, determined train delay durations, the number of delayed trains by danger level, and dependence of damage on the season. After systematization of data on axle-box damage and heating temperatures of broken axle-boxes, heating tendencies of axle-boxes of freight wagons are described. Finally, basic conclusions are given.
Своевременно не обнаруженная неисправность буксы может привести к аварии поезда или катастрофе. В настоящее время внедрено много передовых (прогрессивных) технологий, современного оборудования и приспособлений, которые «распознают» неисправную буксу во время движения поезда. Но, несмотря на это своевременное, обнаружение неисправности буксы остается острой проблемой, особенно в начальной стадии повреждения. В настоящее время повреждения букс подвижного состава определяются по температуре нагревания корпуса буксы. В статье предоставлены статистические данные о буксах, нагревающихся до опасного предела, установлена продолжительность задержек поездов, количество задержанных поездов по уровням (категориям) опасности и зависимость нагрева букс от времени года. Тенденции нагрева букс грузовых вагонов описаны на основе систематизации данных о неисправностях букс и температуры их нагрева. В конце предоставлены выводы.

The work provides a proposal of interpretation showing operation in terms of values being compared to a physical quantity with the unit of measure called joule-second, just like operations of Hamilton and Maupertius demonstrated in classical mechanics. Operation in this interpretation is also considered in quantum mechanics, referring to body electromagnetic radiation source of which operation is characterized by Planck constant. An original method of analysis and evaluation of machine operation is herein presented in the energetic aspect, as the result of applying the theory of semi-Markov processes. In order to give grounds for usability of such interpreted operation it has been employed the model describing changes in energy of combustion engines, in the form of state-discrete and time-continuous semi-Markov process. The process is thus a semi-Markov model of getting worse combustion engine operation run with the lapse of time and regaining the initial energetic state of the engine after its refurbishment. The limiting distribution of the process has been determined with probabilities of occurring the distinguished energetic states of mentioned engines. The paper shows that the proposed interpretation for the operation enables making a graph of operation, which demonstrates engine operation in the form of field. The attention is paid that the engine operation in the presented version has got the advantage that can be expressed as a quantity with the joule-second as a unit of measure and as a graph in the form of operation field. The coordinate system for presenting the operation as a field, proposed in this paper, refers to the known in thermodynamics possibility of expressing the energy conversion sorts like work and heat (according to the conception of Clapeyron and Belpaire) in the form of fields.

Process of heat exchange in a rotary furnace during converter slag reduction was modelled.Temperature distribution in the furnace and temperature of the charge (slag) only were examined. Influence of modification of the process gas supply method by changing the number of nozzles on the course of the reduction process was analyzed. It has been found out that application of a nozzle as a submerged flame burner provides possibilities to reach higher charge temperature. Application of more nozzles in the process of converter slag reduction can increase temperature of reduced slag and provide better uniformity of charge heating.
