This paper sets to analyse the hermeneutical process of highlighting at work in the preface written by the North Irish poet Seamus Heaney to his retranslations of Beowulf (1999). My analysis takes into account the generic identity of the preface by considering it as a textual subgenre where the translator becomes a metatranslator to voice herself out of invisibility, engages in a (self-reflexive) hermeneutical analysis and “justification” by commenting on the choice of the translated work and their translation choices. The analysis is carried out with the help of two concepts elaborated by Gadamer: situatedness and self-understanding to show how Seamus Heaney fuses different horizons in the process of his retranslation.

This article is devoted to issues in the literary culture of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth of the end of the 17th and the beginning of the 18th centuries. The material of prefaces to an anonymous recipient a ached to works of 1675–1739 served as the basis for analysing the statements concerning the process of reception and the act of reading. The results of the analysis indicate that the authors of the prefaces perceived a crisis of readership and interest in books. To this end, they activated the audience for attentive and engaged reading. Moreover, the authors declared that they adapted the form and content of the works to the needs and tastes of readers. Going beyond the traditionally established convention of using topical motifs, they often extolled their offerings in direct, concise but succinct messages, which alludes to the characteristics of advertising language.

Mikhailo Slozka, Lviv printer, was the author of many paratexts (prefaces, letters of dedications, heraldic verses) in Cyryllic religious books, mainly liturgical ones. There were books printed on their own initiative and prepared in his typography and those ordered by local Orthodox brotherhood. The reader (mostly clergyman), gained form the knowledge about the role of the book in religious, spiritual and cultural-educational life, he learned respect for books and knowledge. He got to know the creators of the most important books used in the Church and those intended for individual prayer and deepening of the Christian formation. The activities of Slozka undoubtedly favored the renewal of religious and cultural life in the Metropolitanate of Kyiv and are worth further scientific research.

Dogmat o Trójcy Przenajświętszej stoi na szczycie hierarchii prawd chrześcijańskiej wiary. Znalazł on swoje miejsce nie tylko w orzeczeniach dogmatycznych, ale także w liturgii. Prawda ta w sposób szczególny dochodzi do głosu w prefacji o Trójcy Świętej, która posługuje się teologicznymi sformułowaniami. Modlitwa ta stanowi zatem doskonały przykład doksologii, czyli z jednej strony prawidłowego mówienia o Bogu, a z drugiej oddawania Mu miłego kultu w Kościele.
Trinity functions and is worshipped in liturgy. This cult clearly comes to the fore in It’s Preface which was very often used before the Second Vatican Council’s reform of liturgy. The purpose of this article will be an attempt to solve the following problem: how is the content of the Trinity’s dogma expressed in liturgy on example of the Preface. This liturgical prayer also reveals the original meaning of the concept of orthodoxy and is not only correct teaching about God, but above all the correct version of Churche’s cult of the Triune.

Dear Readers, We are pleased to present the next issue of the Research Papers in Economics and Finance published by the University of Economics and Business in Poznan, Poland. We have selected five articles from different parts of Europe. This issue opens with a great paper, which received excellent reviews, written by Hubert Witczak, entitled “The systemic-praxeological approach to the methodology of primary scientific activity of the management science system”. The second paper entitled “International mobility of students in modern conditions of transformation in the global market of services (regional aspect)” has been written by two authors: Olena Bulatova and Оleg Zaikovskyfrom the Mariupol State University in Ukraine. The next paper concerns “The Belt and Road Initiative as a tool for promoting EU-China trade. Poland’s case”. This paper has been written by Alina Szypulewska-Porczyńska from the Warsaw School of Economics, Poland.  The fourth paper has been created by three authors: Volodymyr Tkachenko from The London Academy of Science and Business, England, Iryna Tkachenko from the Academy of the State Penitentiary Service, Ukraine and Polina Puzyrova from the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, Ukraine. It concerns “Fundamentals of financial and economic security management of Ukrainian enterprises”.  The whole issue ends with a great paper entitled “Examining market concentration levels of available global financial commodity products” which has been written by Subhakara Valluri from the Institute of Economics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Poland.

Sobraniye prypadkov – dialog gatunkowo zbliżony do katechizmu, opublikowany w supraskiej typografii w 1722 r., powstał pod redakcyjną opieką Leona Kiszki – metropolity kijowskiego, intelektualisty, nauczyciela, tłumacza, redaktora i autora wielu dzieł, hierarchy – reformatora związanego z synodem zamojskim (1720), tak ważnym dla Kościoła zjednoczonego z Rzymem. Trudno określić, w jakim stopniu Kiszka był zaangażowany w przygotowanie Sobraniya adresowanego do konsekrowanych odbiorców, ale nie ulega wątpliwości, że był autorem siedmiostronicowej przedmowy do tego wydania. Ten otwierający ramę wydawniczą księgi paratekst został potraktowany przez biskupa jako skuteczny kanał przekazu nauk dla duchowieństwa. Z funkcjonalnego punktu widzenia przedmowa jest nie tylko wprowadzeniem do pracy, ale okazuje się formacyjnym pouczeniem dla duchowieństwa. Twórczo nawiązuje do dawnych i nowszych nauk dla kapłanów. Metropolita wybrał z nich znane wątki, argumenty i motywy, ale pogłębił swój wywód, który nie przybrał postaci prostych zaleceń, towarzyszyły mu bowiem nieco bardziej wyrafinowane pod względem treści i wyrazu komentarze. Podobieństwo do nauk zauważalne jest także w retoryce wypowiedzi, a nawet na poziomie kompozycji. Musiało to nastąpić w pewnym stopniu w sposób naturalny, siłą tradycji, ale być może Kiszka celowo kształtował przedmowę. Dodając ją do Sobraniya, chciał wykorzystać kolejną okazję do formowania księży, jednocześnie uczynić przesłanie czytelnym dla duchowieństwa, które było przyzwyczajone do pewnej przyjętej konwencji w nauczaniu. Publikacja omawianego źródła wraz z przedmową – nauką wpisywała się w szerszą działalność edukacyjną Leona Kiszki, który dążył do wzmocnienia Kościoła unickiego poprzez podniesienie poziomu przygotowania duchowieństwa parafialnego do posługi.
Sobraniye prypadkov (Zbiór przypadków) – dialog close to the genre of catechism published in Suprasl typography in 1722 was prepared under the editorial supervision of Leon Kiszka – Kyiv Metropolitan, intellectual, teacher, translator, editor and author of many works, hierarch and reformer associated with the Synod of Zamość (1720), so important for the Church united with Rome. It is difficult to say to which degree Kiszka was involved in preparing Sobraniye, which was addressed to consecrated recipients but there is no doubt that he was an author of seven–page preface to this edition. This entry paratext was treated by bishop as an effective channel of transmission for the teaching for clergy. From the functional point of view preface is not only introduction into the work but it turns out to be formation-content instruction. It creatively refers to old and newer exhortation for priests. Metropolitan selected from them themes, arguments, and motifs known, but he deepened the reflection, which did not take the form of simple recommendations, but was accompanied by a commentary, a bit more sophisticated in terms of content and expression. Similarity to teachings is also noticeable in rhetoric of statements and even at the level of composition. It must had happened to some extent in a natural way, by the strength of tradition, but perhaps Kiszka shaped this preface deliberately. By adding a preface to Sobraniye, he wanted to use another opportunity to educate priests and at the same time to make the message readable for the clergy, compliant with the adopted convention of teaching. Publication of the discussed source was part of the broader educational activity of Leon Kiszka, who strove to strengthen the Uniate Church by raising the level of preparing parish clergy for ministry.

L'articolo presenta alcuni testi di Massimo Bontempelli finora relativamente poco esplorati dalla critica bontempelliana o perfino sconosciuti, provenienti dall'ambito del giornalismo e da collaborazioni editoriali. L’analisi della prefazione alle Prose di fede e di vita del primo tempo dell’umanesimo, scritta da Bontempelli nel 1913, mostra (anche al confronto con altri articoli bontempelliani sia del periodo degli esordi, sia dei primi anni Venti) che numerose tesi della tendenza culturale e letteraria del ‘novecentismo’ teorizzata tra il 1926 e il 1927, erano presenti già nelle prime collaborazioni editoriali di questo intellettuale. Fra queste tesi: il ruolo di una lingua trasparente, l’importanza dell’immaginazione, la necessità di prestare attenzione al pubblico e di liberarsi da una troppo stretta adesione al canone, per nominarne alcune.
The article presents selected newspaper articles and a preface written by Massimo Bontempelli which have been relatively unexplored and unacknowledged by the literary criticism. The comparative analysis of the preface from 1913 and selected articles from his early period and the early 1920s, shows that numerous core ideas pertaining to his cultural and literary project ‘novecentismo’, which was officially launched as a theoretical proposal between 1926-1927, were already present in his early editorial collaborations as well as the articles: the role of linguistic transparency, the importance of imagination, Bontempelli’s anti-canonical attitude and the role he assigns to the reader, to name a few.

The article analyzes frequency and stylistic functions of the concordant attributes in famous text of the Old Belarusian literature of the second half of the 16th c. – the preface of the Belarusian Protestant Basil Tyapinsky, dedicated to the Gospel translated and printed by him. The conclusion of the analyses is that the rhetorical devices examined in the article reflect a speech style of the preface and some oral techniques of its author.

Thanksgiving is an important climate for the celebration of the Eucharist. The development of the Mass rites, from the breaking of bread in the apostolic times, through the medieval rites recorded in the sacramentaries, including the post-Tridentine Missal of Pius V, which unified Mass rites, up to the Missale Romanum of Paul VI of 1970, was carried out with the awareness that through them the participants of the liturgy were disposed to express gratitude to God for the work of creation, salvation, and sanctification. A special way of ex-posing the concrete saving interventions of God, especially the saving deeds of Christ, is the preface. It is an integral part of the celebration of the Eucharist. The multiplicity of the pref-ace, as many as 267 in the Sacramentary of Verona from the 7th century, as well as 100 in the Missal of Paul VI, testifies to the fact that the Church cares very much to revive the awareness of the great works of God, making present in the celebration of the paschal mystery of the incarnate Son of God. The present shape of the masses’ prefaces is rooted in Christian antiquity. The dialogi-cal nature of the preface prayer is also derived from that time.

Śpiew Exsultet zamieszczony w Missale Paulinorum nie jest wierną kopią ani melodii normandzkiej rozpowszechnionej w Europie, ani gnieźnieńskiej. Jego melodia pełna jest różnego typu przeobrażeń w stosunku do wybranych źródeł porównawczych, co w dużym stopniu wpływa korzystnie na oryginalność przekazu paulińskiego. Zaobserwowano w nim pewne cechy wspólne z wersją rzymską bądź w stosunku do niej odmienne albo różniące je od gnieźnieńskiej, a bliskie rzymskiej lub też wykazujące duże podobieństwo z wersją gnieźnieńską, a z kolei odmienne od rzymskiej. Niewykluczone, że wersja paulińska i gnieźnieńska korzystały ze wspólnego wzorca melodycznego (na przykład krakowskiego), natomiast autorzy każdej z nich nadali im indywidualny koloryt. Tego rodzaju wariabilność melodii świadczy z jednej strony o dużej migracji tego śpiewu, a z drugiej o nasilających się różnicach pomiędzy wersjami melodycznymi u schyłku średniowiecza. Można by to skomentować także jako swego rodzaju dążność do przełamywania uniwersalizmu tego śpiewu albo też chęć nadawania mu lokalnego kolorytu. Przebadany wariant pauliński orędzia wielkanocnego, ujawniający wysoki kunszt artystyczny, jest tego potwierdzeniem.
In light of the information gleaned from musical analysis concerning the version of the Exsultet chant in the Missale Paulinorum, it should be stated that this is not a faithful copy of either the Norman melody widespread in Europe or of the Gniezno melody. Its melody is full of modifications of various types in relation to the selected comparative sources, for the most part reflecting favourably on the originality of the Pauline source. One can observe in it, for example, certain features shared with the Roman version or different to it, differing from the Gniezno version but close to the Roman, or else displaying a surprising similarity with the Gniezno version but differing from the Roman, a salient example being the initial leap of a fourth. It cannot be excluded that the Pauline and Gniezno versions made use of a common melodic model (from Cracow, for example), whilst the authors of each imparted to their notation an individual colouring. This kind of variability to the melody attests on one hand the considerable migration of this chant and on the other the growing differences between melodic versions towards the end of the Middle Ages. This may be regarded also as a kind of aspiration to breaking up the universality of this chant, or even a desire to throw off the dictates of the old conventions or to lend it a local colouring. The Pauline variant of the Easter Proclamation analysed here, displaying considerable artistry, is a case in point.
