    This article deals with the problem of the forming an imperative of Sustainable Development. The content and ideological potential of the idea of Sustainable Development are analyzed. The necessity of introducing informational and educational policies in the course of implementation of the principles of Sustainable Development is substantiated. The main disadvantages and problems of the system of higher education in Ukraine are considered in light of the of the idea of Sustainable Development. It has been proven that the content of the concept "ecological" significantly expands the context of expediency in implementing the strategy of Sustainable Development.

    The author takes a critical stance against director Romeo Castellucci’s powerful self-narrative. Her skepticism toward Castellucci’s trademark poetic reveals the materialist dimension of his theatre, in light of which such notions as relationality, indiscernibility, simple observation, and giving ground to an animal were revitalized and led to an open, unhampered directorial discourse, in a “thinking-out-loud” style of analysis. The article joins post-anthropocentric thought inspired by Donna Haraway, Jacques Derrida’s gentleness toward animals, and Deleuze’s take on the work of art in all of its relational complexity.

    Recent years have witnessed the publication of a number of research papers and books seeking to assess threats of electoral victories of anti-establishment politicians and political parties, described as authoritarian populists. This essay focuses on three books directly addressing the origins and threats of authoritarian populism to democracy. It consists of six sections and the conclusion. The first section presents findings (Norris and Inglehart) based on surveys of values of voters of various age cohorts concluding that authoritarian populism is a temporary backlash provoked by the post-materialist perspective. The second section examines the contention, spelled out in Levitsky and Ziblatt, that increase in openness of American political system produced,  unintentionally, a degradation of the American political system. The third section continues brief presentations focusing on to the causes and implications of “illiberal democracy,” and “undemocratic liberalism” (Mounk). The fourth section examines developments in the quality of democracy in the world showing that despite the decline in Democracy Indices, overall there was no slide towards non-democratic forms of government in 2006–2019. The next two sections deal with dimensions missing in reviewed books; the notion of nation-state, international environment, civic culture and, in particular, dangers of radical egalitarianism to democracy. The last section concludes with regrets that the authors ignored rich literature on fragility of democracy and failed to incorporate in their analyses deeper structural factors eroding democracy: by the same token, return to the pre-populist shock trajectory is unlikely to assure survival of liberal democracy.

    The article presents the character of the zombie popular in the contemporary audio-visual culture by placing it in the context of post humanist paradigm. He concentrates on the brain symbolism representative for the character, which, in the classical understanding of the living dead, due to dissimilar functioning, makes it different from humans and their brain-like traits: the mind and heart. Analysing the recent films such as Warm Bodies and The Girl with All the Gifts, he demonstrates the present inadequacy of such a division. Unlike the classical Night of the Living Dead, they are in line with post anthropocentric and new materialism philosophy, by differently symbolically depicting the role and place of the human in the world. It is presently tantamount to the place of non-humans: animals, objects, artefacts and monsters including the living dead. The change of the cultural and film paradigm observed in zombie horrors indicates a deeper strategy of authors of those popular films.

    The article focuses on Maja Lunde’s “climate quartet,” read from the perspective of post-speciesist theory and new materialism. Apart from dealing with climate change and dystopian futures, Lunde’s fiction also tackles the poetics and politics of the non-human (be it non-human animals or the non-human environment), which is no longer perceived as inherently submissive and dependent on the human, but possesses a life of its own. In new materialism’s terms, non-human (organic/inorganic, animate/inanimate) bodies are self-generative and self-sufficient, able to affect and influence other bodies.

    Artykuł jest krytycznym komentarzem do książki Aviezera Tuckera The Legacies of Totalitarianism: A Theoretical Framework, która przedstawia koncepcję ewolucji totalitarnego komunizmu i jego transformacji oraz wynikającą stąd analizę problemów posttotalitarnych społeczeństw Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej. Zdaniem autora tekstu, choć omawiana książka jest nader rzadką próbą syntetycznego wyjaśnienia zarówno genezy systemu realnego socjalizmu, jak i jego transformacji, to Tucker przyjmuje zbyt wąskie pojmowanie klasy i interesu klasowego, co prowadzi do idealistycznej interpretacji czystek stalinowskich i wyłącznie instytucjonalistycznego pojmowania transformacji. Takie spojrzenie na transformację ustrojową nie pozwala osadzić jej ekonomicznych wymiarów w szerszej społecznej perspektywie.
    The paper is a critical commentary of The Legacies of Totalitarianism: A Theoretical Framework authored by Aviezer Tucker. This book presents the evolution of totalitarian communism, its transformation and analysis of problems surfacing in East-Central European societies. Although the reviewed book is a very rare attempt at a synthetic view on the genesis and transformation of communism, its author accepts a very narrow understanding of class and class interest which leads to an idealistic interpretation of Stalinist purges and the institutionalistic understanding of transformation which does not allow to place economical dimensions of post-communist transformation in a wider social perspective.

    Artykuł analizuje koncepcję postczłowieka z filozoficznej perspektywy. Celem pracy jest przedstawienie oraz dookreślenie znaczenia pojęcia postczłowieka. Rozważania opierają się na założeniu, że w ramach nurtu posthumanizmu można wyróżnić filozofię posthumanistyczną, której przedmiotem namysłu jest człowiek oraz jego sytuacja w zmieniającym się świecie za sprawą rozwoju nauki i techniki. Punktem wyjścia dla analiz jest posthumanistyczny postulat przepracowania tradycji humanistycznej, którego rezultatem jest nieesencjalistyczna oraz nieantropocentryczna koncepcja postczłowieka. Artykuł przedstawia kształtowanie się koncepcji postczłowieka w odwołaniu do twórczości D. Haraway oraz N.K. Hayles. Następnie analizuje stanowisko R. Braidotti, aby wykazać feministyczne oraz dekonstruktywistyczne inspiracje posthumanizmu, które miały znaczący wpływ na wizję postczłowieczeństwa. Charakterystyka postczłowieka zostaje przedstawiona w odwołaniu do koncepcji Braidotti ujmującej ludzką podmiotowość relacyjnie. Artykuł tłumaczy, czemu służy materialistyczne umocowanie podmiotu posthumanistycznego, aby następnie wyjaśnić twierdzenie o istotnej roli ludzkiego ucieleśnienia. Praca ukazuje, jak zniesienie opozycji między cielesnością a myśleniem prowadzi do post-dualistycznej koncepcji człowieka.
    The article analyses the concept of posthuman from a philosophical perspective. The paper aims to present and determine the meaning of the notion of posthuman. The considerations are based on the assumption that posthumanist philosophy can be distinguished within posthumanism. The subject matter of posthumanist philosophy is human being and human situation in the changing world due to the development of science and technology. The starting point for the analysis is the posthumanist postulate of ‘working-through’ the humanist tradition, which results in a non-essentialist and non-anthropocentric concept of posthuman. The article presents the process of shaping this concept in reference to works of D. Haraway and N.K. Hayles. Then the paper analyses the standpoint of R. Braidotti in order to show that posthumanism was inspired by feminism and deconstructivism (these inspirations had a significant impact on the vision of posthumanity). The characteristics of posthuman are presented in reference to Braidotti’s conception of relational subjectivity. The article elucidates why the posthuman subject is materialistically embedded in order to explain the thesis about significant role of human embodiment. The paper shows how the abolition of the opposition between body and thinking leads to a post-dualistic conception of human being.

    Das sich immer intensiver aufgrund der philosophischen Anthropologie entwickelnde posthumanistische Paradigma stellt eine neue Sichtweise auf die Stellung des Menschen im metaphysischen Universum dar, die ein anderes als das bisher herrschende Leitbild der Verhältnisse des Menschen mit nicht-menschlichen Wesen nach sich zieht. Der Posthumanismus vollzieht dadurch eine Wiederbelebung der Überzeugung, dass der Ethik die Metaphysik zugrunde liegt. Im Artikel rekonstruiere ich diese Voraussetzung am Beispiel des Entwurfs des „neuen Materialismus“ (u. a. Rosi Braidotti, Jane Bennett, Diane Coole, Samantha Frost). Ich erörtere auch Probleme, die sich mit der Möglichkeit verbinden, ethische Thesen mit Behauptungen von metaphysischem Charakter zu begründen, welche im Bereich des Posthumanismus erscheinen. Die Diagnostizierung dieser Schwierigkeiten erlaubt eine nähere Charakteristik des posthumanistischen Standpunkts und seiner besonderen Variante – des neuen Materialismus.
    This paper explores the key assumption for posthumanism, according to which developing new metaphysics will bring about the establishment of new ethics, which considers not only human, but also non-human beings. The article first reconstructs this view using an example of “new materialism” (R. Braidotti, J. Bennett, D. Coole, S. Frost), and subsequently discusses problems related to the justification of ethical reasons by metaphysical assertions, which occur within posthumanism.
    W artykule analizuję kluczowe dla posthumanizmu założenie, zgodnie z którym wytworzenie nowej metafizyki ustanowi fundament dla nowej etyki obejmującej nie tylko człowieka, ale też byty pozaludzkie. W artykule najpierw zrekonstruowano tę tezę na przykładzie „nowego materializmu” (R. Braidotti, J. Bennett, D. Coole, S. Frost), a następnie omówiono problemy łączące się z uzasadnianiem tez etycznych przez występujące w posthumanizmie twierdzenia metafizyczne.

    Der Artikel beschäftigt sich mit dem Begriff des neuen Materialismus und erforscht die Frage, wie der neue Materialismus visuelle Künste auf eine innovative Art wahrnimmt: durch die Verbindung von künstlerischer Praxis, der Kunst als Forschung und der philosophischen Analyse. Ausgewählte künstlerische Arbeiten von S & P Stanikas und Evaldas Jansas werden unter Anwendung der Methoden des neuen Materialismus als Rekonzeptualisierung des Körpers in der litauischen Kunst interpretiert. Untersucht wird der geopolitische und antiideologische Hintergrund, vor dem die visuellen Künstler in Litauen und Polen von 1960er bis zu 1990er Jahren gegen kulturelle Dichotomien kämpften: männliche und weibliche Körper, traditionelle oder gegenwärtige Kunst, Künstler als freies Individuum oder an Ideologie gebunden. Unter Verwendung des Terminus "affirmativ" von Rosi Braidotti wird im Artikel die Frage gestellt, ob man anhand der analysierten Fälle argumentieren kann, dass "affirmative Politik auf der Suche nach alternativen Visionen und Projekten Kritik mit Kreativität verbindet". 
    This article deals with the concept of new materialism and examines the issue of how new materialism tackles visual art in innovative ways – though the intersections of artistic practice, art-as-research, and philosophical analysis. Selected artworks by S & P Stanikas and Evaldas Jansas are analyzed in this paper as body reconceptualization in Lithuanian art, employing the approach of new materialism. We will explore the geopolitical and ideological background, in which Lithuanian and Polish visual artists grapple with cultural binaries from the 1960s to the 1990s: male-female gendered bodies, traditional or contemporary art, and the artist as free individual or the one tied to ideology. Employing Rossi Braidotti’s term “affirmative”, this article poses a question whether it is possible to argue on the analyzed cases that “affirmative politics combines critique with creativity in the pursuit of alternative visions and projects”.
    Artykuł zajmuje się pojęciem nowego materializmu i bada kwestie, jak nowy materializm dostrzega sztuki wizualne w sposób nowatorski – poprzez skrzyżowanie praktyki artystycznej, sztuki-jako-badań i analizy filozoficznej. Wybrane prace artystyczne autorstwa S & P Stanikas i Evaldasa Jansasa zostają zinterpretowane w referacie jako rekonceptualizacja ciała w sztuce litewskiej, posługując się metodami nowego materializmu. Eksplorujemy tło geopolityczne, antyideologiczne, w którym artyści wizualni litewscy i polscy zmagają się z binaryzmami kulturowymi od lat 1960. do 1990: męskie-kobiece ciała, sztuka tradycyjna czy współczesna, artysta jako wolna jednostka czy przywiązana do ideologii. Posługując się terminem Rosi Braidotti „afirmatywny”, w artykule stawia się pytanie, czy można argumentować na  podstawie analizowanych przypadków, że „afirmatywna polityka łączy krytykę z kreatywnością w poszukiwaniu alternatywnych wizji i projektów”.
