In the article I demonstrate some of the possible ways by which counterfactual imagination can lead people to innovation and the creation of novel and valuable solutions. I start with adopting the broad definition of counterfactuals, by which counterfactual imagination is understood as the ability to imagine alternative states of affairs which can relate to the past, present or future. I explain how counterfactual imagination differs from other sorts of imaginative and creative thoughts, pointing out that counterfactual types of thinking always rely on facts and involve a change in some features of the actual world, leaving other such features unaltered. I also show that the concept of counterfactual imagination can be useful when we aim to describe the very earliest manifestations of imaginative capacities in children, which can be seen in their make-believe games. All the mentioned characteristics of counterfactual imagination are further used to examine how what if and would be sorts of thinking and imagining might influence people’s creative performance. I conclude with the suggestion that-if guided properly-counterfactual imagination could be a truly valuable mental tool for innovation. This demonstration is partly influenced by Ruth Byrne’s multi-faceted analysis of counterfactual imagination, mainly from her book, The Rational Imagination: How People Create Alternatives to Reality.

A man tirelessly looks for answers to numerous questions about deep ontological problems concerning the meaning of life, fundamental reasons or the last things. The aim of the article is to build a theoretical base, on the basis of which one will have opportunity to ask yet further questions, which are relevant in relation to human existence especially for philosophers. The genius requires a huge commitment to get to it. It also involves an internal declaration of continuous self-improvement. Contrary to the philosophers of the era of modernism, I believe that to a greater or lesser extent, every person can potentially be genuine and great. After all in the mechanism and in the specific rhythm of tape improvement of the product as well as in the fiery ideas contemplated by the people of philosophy and art we can find passion for life and creativity People as such do not live in strictly defined internal boundaries and therefore they can constantly develop. If a wider group of philosophers can be interested in the concept of philosophy which is open to current human problems, interested primarily in other people (also in the sense of their huge diversity), then the goal of this essay will eventually be achieved. From the perspective of the possibility of a sense of job satisfaction it does not matter whether someone cooks well or paints beautifully. Everybody can equally develop in the essential sense of self-improvement. The scientific aspirations of the approach to this philosophical problem are fortunately unable to hide the values of human work in general, and especially the work done on oneself, overcoming one's own prejudices and going beyond the previously established conventions. It is only the acquisition of the ability to play freely with what is given to an existence that gives a man the chance to free himself from the shackles of restrictions existing on many levels of culture, religion or art.

Last time a huge progress of researches regarding communication possibilities of children with Asperger’s syndrome can be noticed. Despite of this, the knowledge concerning this subject seems to be insufficient. There is also indisputable fact, that communication both on linguistic and non – linguistic level is incorrect. Disorders in this area might have different nature. Some children can be on a satisfactory level in linguistic area, some did not carve communication skills in sufficient level and it is hard to predict their development in this area. Additional difficult are huge differences between development of their communication skills. Communication ability is not only a part of socialization but also impacts on emotional and cognitive development, mainly because of it allows to extend area of experiences and understandding of world and people. Abnormalities which can be seen in development of children with Asperger’s syndrome dispose to think what kind of methods can be used in order to make efficient their functioning in social area.

Various newspaper articles report that British ministers, university representatives, exam chiefs and business bodies agree that foreign languages skills in primary, secondary and tertiary UK education are in crisis. Lower funding and policy changes have caused language skills deficiencies felt gravely in the business sectors. Funding and support initiatives pledged by policy makers appear to be election-driven, barely outliving newly elected governments. Others blame secondary school language curriculum for failing to inspire students to take up a language when they reach 13 or 14. Others still argue that severe A-level examinations marking deters students from taking up a foreign language at 6th form level, producing fewer prospective language learners for university departments. Community languages are also undervalued as small-entry languages could soon be axed from GCSE and A-level examinations. In a world increasingly interconnected, it is essential the importance of language learning be reinstated in all our educational institutions. This paper reviews two decades of the conditions of language provision in the UK in general, with an emphasis on Leeds Beckett University. It also attempts to answer two questions emerging form the author’s personal teaching experience and reflections: What are the realities and challenges language teaching faces at Leeds Beckett University? And, how may we support language learners in fulfilling their ambition to acquire the required skills to communicate effectively in this globalised world?

The paper aims to investigate the link between self-shaping and intersubjectivity from a phenomenological perspective. This means that two main topics are here at stake. On the one hand, the paper purports to argue that tackling the link between self-shaping and intersubjectivity from a phenomenological perspective is a meaningful (§1) and sound approach (§2). On the other hand, the paper purports to argue that such an analysis enables us to bring to light an inherent linkage that tethers the topic of intersubjectivity to the sway that other persons hold over one’s process of self-shaping. This influence will be gradually investigated. Firstly, Husserl’s stance on other persons as “variations of my self” (“Abwandlungen meiner Selbst”) will allow us to understand why other persons might hold sway over one’s process of self-shaping and self-knowledge (§3). Secondly, exemplariness will turn out to be the way through which other persons might hold sway over one’s process of self-shaping and self-knowledge: Scheler’s stance on exemplariness will be examined since he makes us treat the question of exemplariness from the standpoint of the process of the formation of individuality: exemplars hold sway over such a process (§4). So, we will rely upon the Husserlian thesis (“the other person is an intentional variation of my self”—“der Andere [ist] eine intentionale Abwandlung meiner selbst”) and the Schelerian thesis (others could become exemplars for me) to argue for a thesis that goes beyond Husserl’s and Scheler’s perspectives: others as exemplars shed light on the eidetic possibilities of myself and others could become exemplars for me since they are variations of myself; that is, they exemplify untaken possibilities of myself.1 We will argue that exemplariness is the key to the link between the issue of intersubjectivity and the process of self-shaping.

This article presents, undertaken by social organizations and the office of the Capital City of Warsaw, initiatives aimed at developing a model of cooperation between institutions performing tasks in the field of various areas of social policy. These initiatives concern, inter alia, continuing the activities of the education system in the field of equalizing the chances of students with disabilities by institutions performing tasks in the field of various areas of social policy, including those supporting professional and personal functioning of adults. One of the directions of this objective is the creation of an information and coordination point to support adults with disabilities in solving their problems, eg by providing information on possible participation in social rehabilitation and / or employment in an open, supported or protected labor market.

Introduction: The purpose of the work is to theoretically and experimentally substantiate the influence of psychophysiological factors on individual performance in athletics sprint in high-qualified athletes on the example of an elite athlete. Material and methods: In this study, participated 1 athlete, 36 years of age, female. Athlete is specializing in short-distance running and long jump, the European Athletics Champion 2010; prize winner of the World Paralympic and Paralympic Games among athletes with visual impairments (T12 category) in 2016. The study was conducted for 5 months. Twice a week, testing was conducted (psychophysiological indicators and running speed); 36 tests of one athlete were conducted. Individual characteristics of the psychophysiological state and results in running for 100 m for five months were analyzed. Results. The models of multiple linear regression between results in 100 m run for an elite athlete with visual impairment and psychophysiological indices are compiled. High importance of psychophysiological indices in individual performance in running on 100 m is shown. Conclusions. Compensatory mechanisms of visual function deficiency were established to maintain high speed in the 100 m run as psychophysiological functions: indicators characteristic of sprinters (speed of simple reaction and motility of the nervous system) and specific indicators (efficiency, strength of the nervous system).

The author of the article reflects on the promotion possibilities of small towns, indicating that they still remain in the shadow of large centres. The factor that determines the promotional success of a town is the awareness of a need to adopt a marketing orientation, precise developed of promotion strategy and adequate financial resources for the implementation of proposed activities. Concerning small towns, at the moment none of these conditions can be considered fulfilled on a satisfactorily level. Small towns’ opportunities in an increasingly competitive market are: a change of lifestyle from the big city to a small-town one, cooperative promotion with other cities, and the set jetting recently so popular.

Cel badań. Celem pracy jest opisanie związków miedzy samowiedzą (normatywną i autonomiczną) a cechami temperamentu i motywacją osiągnięć gracza w zespole. Materiał i metody. Przebadano 44 graczy piłki siatkowej, uczniów Szkoły Mistrzostwa Sportowego, w przedziale wiekowym 15–17 lat (16,4 ± 2,6 roku) i średnim stażu zawodniczym 5,4 ± 2,7 roku. Zastosowano Kwestionariusz Temperamentu „Formalna Charakterystyka Zachowania” (FCZ-KT) Zawadzkiego i Strelaua, Skalę MOS (eksp.) do pomiaru motywacji osiągnięć sportowych, Skale Samoocen Normatywnych i Autonomicznych. Wyniki. Wszystkie miary samoocen autonomicznych okazały się wyższe od samoocen normatywnych. Niezależnie od tego jak zawodnik oceniał swoje zdolności predyspozycje sportowe, szanse sukcesu, jego wysiłek treningowy był stałą zbliżoną do maksymalnego. Samoocena atrakcyjności fizycznej nie ma związku z ocenami pozostałych atrybutów autonomicznych czy normatywnych. Wnioski. Najbardziej miarodajnym nośnikiem informacji o psychicznych możliwościach zawodnika jest samoocena relatywna w obszarze pewności i zaufania do siebie – związana z parametrami emocjonalnego funkcjonowania zawodnika, odpornością na stres, zdolnością do rozładowywania stanów emocjonalnych oraz motywacją osiągnięć.
Background. The aim of the present study was exploring the relationship between mental possibilities group athlete of the team and your different self-esteems. Material and methods. Techniques were applied with the use of 1) Temperament Inventory (FCB – TI) of Zawadzki, Strelau, 2) MOS scale measuring motive achievement (ex. v Mroczkowska) and 3) autonomic and relative measurements of self- esteem (perceived physical attractiveness, perceived ability, confidence, perceived effort, physical efficiency, perceived chances for success– all questions were single items, measured on a 10-point semantic scale ranging from not at all (1) to very much (10). Participants were 44 elite Polish volleyball players with mean age 16.42 (± 2.63) years and mean competitive experience 5.49 (± 1.90) years. Results. All autonomic measurements of self–esteem were found to be strong from normative measurements-highest own effort as constant function independent from perceived ability, confidence, perceived effort, physical efficiency, perceived chances for success. Conclusion. The best measurement of psychophysical possibilities in group game is confidence – relative measurement very strong alliance with motional parameters, stress resistance, persistence of emotional states as system nervous of factors (temperament) and motive achievement.

Wskazano obszary potencjału turystycznego Łodzi, a następnie przeprowadzono analizę w zakresie liczby obiektów i miejsc noclegowych, stopnia ich wykorzystania oraz rozmieszczenia przestrzennego. W dalszej kolejności podjęto próbę oceny bliższych i dalszych perspektyw rozwoju rynku, a także wskazano na potencjalne zagrożenia.
The article presents the current level of Łódź hotel market development in comparison to other regional cities. The author points out areas that create tourism potential of Łódź, she analyses the number of hotels and accommodation possibilities in the aforementioned hotels. Occupancy rate and spatial distribution are also taken into account. What is more, the article includes analyses of closer and further perspectives of Łódź hotel market development and informs about potential risks.

Celem artykułu jest wskazanie ogólnego zarysu archeologii historycznej. Autor zwraca uwagę na genezę tej specjalności i problem jej definicji, możliwości poznawcze i główne nurty rozwoju, a także na funkcję społeczną. Podejmuje próbę oceny relacji archeologii czasów nowych do historii sensu stricto opartej o analizę przekazów pisanych. Wskazano przy tym na dyskusję toczącą się w literaturze przedmiotu. Zwraca także uwagę na konieczność współpracy archeologii historycznej z innymi dyscyplinami nauki i właściwego wykorzystania nowych metod. Zjawiska dotyczące szeroko pojętej Europy Środkowej osadza w realiach globalnych.
The purpose of this article is to provide a general outline of historical archaeology. The author turns attention to the genesis of this speciality, the problem of its definition, its cognitive possibilities, and the main directions of the development, as well as its social function. He attempts to evaluate the relation between the archaeology of modern times and history sensu stricto, based on the analysis of written records. This includes references to debates taking place in source literature. The author also shows the need for cooperation between historical archaeology and other disciplines of science and for making proper use of new methods. He embeds phenomena concerning the broadly-conceived Central Europe in global realities.

In the era of widespread informatisation of society, one can often observe an increase of family life's co-existence in the virtual reality. Family cannot stay indifferent towards the constantly developing Internet or virtual space created by it. The family existing and functioning in the World Wide Web receives significant opportunities resulting from staying in that reality. However, there are also numerous threats constituting hazards and serious difficulties in the functioning of the family in that net. Together with the opportunities and the threats, there are certain challenges to family is able to exist and function on purely family-oriented values such as love, honesty and trust.

In this part of the report, the authors discuss PTSD in the context of empirical research, taking psychotherapeutic modalities into account. Solution-oriented psychotherapy has its roots in the concept of Elisa, who not only developed ways to support people with existential crises, but also people who have to struggle with disorders that result from traumatic experiences. Traumatotherapy is a modality that refers to methods and techniques that lead to the balance of the client who is familiar with extreme experiences. Possibility-focused psychotherapy (psychotherapy of possibilities), according to its creator, requires the creation of a therapeutic climate that leads to creative cooperation with the client and consequently creates an atmosphere of psychological comfort and security in which the client begins to “to free” and realize the potential of his true self. It is this atmosphere that speeds up the process of empowerment and acceptance of the true picture of yourself and others.

The results of the research concerning further solution of the problem of finding informative markers for the diagnostic of the youth functional state which will allow to comprehensively evaluate the efficiency of the mechanisms for optimizing the training process in strength fitness are represented in this article. Two groups of young men aged 18 to 21 years participated in the research. Each group used our models of training for 3 months. The models differed significantly in terms of amount and intensity of loads. The results indicate that despite the use of sufficiently high parameters of loading intensity by the participants of the basic group under the experimental model of training, we have got a significant increase in their strength possibilities by 33.1% and their body girth parametres by 11.7% compared with the initial data. The dynamics of similar indicators fixed among the representatives of the control group also shows growth but almost twice less. At the same time, the results of monitoring the concentration of phosphorus in serum of the examined contingent, which plays an important role in energy metabolism during the process of muscle activity and reflects the mechanisms of oxidative phosphorylation, enable us to assume that the most pronounced adaptive changes in the organism during this training process are found in a group of people who have used the experimental model of fitness. This model is based on the mechanisms of reducing the duration of rest between the sets and the number of repetitions that affected the total amount of loading.

W artykule przedstawiono możliwości obniżenia zawartości rtęci i chloru w węglach kamiennych metodami stosowanymi w inżynierii mineralnej. W odniesieniu do tych pierwiastków scharakteryzowano ich miejsce w strukturze węgla, genezę i formy występowania. Opisano również techniczne sposoby redukcji zawartości tych zanieczyszczeń w węglach drogą separacji grawitacyjnej, flotacji, wymywania i odwadniania. Przedstawione propozycje mogą znaleźć zastosowanie w przemyśle i przyczynić się do zmniejszenia emisji tych bardzo szkodliwych dla zdrowia i środowiska substancji.
The paper presents the possibilities of reducing the contents of mercury and chlorine in hard coal using the methods applied in mineral engineering. In relation to those elements, their location in the coal structure has been characterized, together with their origin and forms of occurrence. Discussed also are the technical methods of reduction of these contaminants in coal using the gravitational separation, floatation, leaching and dewatering. The proposals presented may find their application in the industry and contribute to reduction of emissions of these substances very harmful to health and environment.
