Opis:
Reliability and safety of an electro-hydraulic position servo system (EHPSS) can be greatly reduced for potential sensor and actuator faults. This paper proposes a novel reconfiguration control (RC) scheme that combines multi-model and adaptive control to compensate for the adverse effects. Such a design includes several fixed models, one adaptive model, and one reinitialized adaptive model. Each of the models has its own independent controller that is based on a complete parametrization of the corresponding fault. A proper switching mechanism is set up to select the most appropriate controller to control the current plant. The system output can track the reference model asymptotically using the proposed method. Simulation results validate robustness and effectiveness of the proposed scheme. The main contribution is a reconfiguration control method that can handle component faults and maintain the acceptable performance of the EHPSS.

Opis:
The classical sliding mode control (SMC) is a robust control scheme widely used for dealing with nonlinear systems uncertainties and disturbances. However, the conventional SMC major drawback in real applications is the chattering phenomenon problem, which involves extremely high control activity due to the switched control input. To overcome this handicap, a pratical design method that combines an adaptive neural network and sliding mode control principles is proposed in this paper. The controller design is divided into two phases. First, the chattering phenomenon is removed by replacing the sign function included in the switched control by a continuous smooth function; basing on Lyapounov stability theorem. Then, an adaptive linear neural network, that has the role of online estimate the equivalent control in the neighborhood of the sliding manifold, is developed when the controlled plant is poorly modeled. Simulation results show clearly the satisfactory chattering free tracking performance of proposed controller when it is applied for the joints angular positions control of a 6-DOF PUMA 560 robot arm.

A ball balancing on a beam is a perfect platform for demonstration various control strategies. The task is to place ball rolling freely, in a reference position along the beam driven by a motor, rejecting disturbances. The research system consists of mechanical platform with stepper motor and two infrared ball position sensors, power supply and electronic controller based on a 32-bit microcontroller connected to Matlab/Simulink software running the main control algorithm. Designed in Simulink input and output subsystem blocks contain all functions required to provide data exchange with microprocessor controller of the mechanical system. Developed data exchange protocol and its implementation both in microcontroller software and Simulink subsystems allow to use this complete system for educational purposes: the controller designer is free to develop supervisory control layer, not going into details of system operation. The results of system operation with P, PD and LQR control laws are shown at the end of this paper.

The shortcomings of the two methods were overcome by proper switch design and also using tanh-sinh hyperbolic function. The sliding mode controller switches on when either disturbance or noise is detected. Genetic Algorithm Computational tuning technique is employed to optimize the gains of the controllers for optimal response. The performance of the proposed controller architecture, as well as the reviewed controllers, have been compared for performance evaluation with respect to several operating conditions. P. Kotler’s recommendations of modern marketing tell managers how to achieve and maintain a dominant market position. Some of the recommended activities may, however, infringe European and Polish competition law. Objections are not raised by market success achieved as a result of high product quality, good customer care, high market shares, continuous product improvements, new product release, entry onto fast growing markets, and exceeding customer expectations. Competition law problems may appear when a given company, having reached a dominant position, starts abusing it by subjugating the market and dictating business conditions to other market players (suppliers, customers, consumers). This article focuses on predatory pricing, strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions and State aid issues that may arise from the implementation of Kotler’s recommendations. For market success not to transform into a competition law problem, it is worth remembering the limitations imposed by competition law on the actions of dominant companies. The paper outlines these limitations.
Opis:
Many kinds of power-assist robots have been developed in order to assist daily activities or rehabilitation of the elderly or physically weak persons. Upper-limb power-assist robots are important to assist in many daily life activities such as eating, drinking, etc.. A human upper-limb has 7 degrees of freedom to achieve various tasks dexterously. Therefore, to assist all upper-limb joint motions of a human, the upper-limb power-assist robot is required to have 7DOF. To achieve a desired task, a person moves the hand to the desired position and orientation and/or applies certain amount of force to the target. Therefore, it is important that the upper-limb power-assist robots help control the hand position/ orientation or hand force of the user. However, the hand position/orientation or hand force is 6-dimensional vector, so the 7DOF upper-limb power-assist robot has a redundancy and in general, a pseudo-inverse matrix is used in the control. In this paper, an optimal control method is proposed to deal with the redundancy of the upper-limb power-assist exoskeleton robot considering comfortable motion of the user. The motion intention and the comfort of the user are taken into account in the pro-posed method. The effectiveness of the proposed method was evaluated by the experiments.

In traditional industries, manual grinding and polishing technologies are still used predominantly. However, these procedures have the following limitations: excessive processing time, labor consumption, and product quality not guaranteed. To address the aforementioned limitations, this study utilizes the good adaptability of a robotic arm to develop a tool-holding grinding and polishing system with force control mechanisms. Specifically, off-the-shelf handheld grinder is selected and attached to the robotic arm by considering the size, weight, and processing cost of the stainless steel parts. In addition, for contact machining, the robotic arm is equipped with a force/torque sensor to ensure that the system is active compliant. According to the experimental results, the developed system can reduce the surface roughness of 304 stainless steel to 0.47 µm for flat surface and 0.76 µm for circular surface. Moreover, the processing trajectory is programmed in the CAD/CAM software simulation environment, which can lead to good results in collision detection and arm posture establishment.

Opis:
According to specifications, lifetime of a linear stepping electromagnetic drive in WWER-1000 nuclear reactors is limited by the pre-assigned lifetimes of the drive components such as electromagnets, a latch assembly, drive rack, and control rod position sensor. The lifetime of the drive components is from 7 to 20 years. On the basis of diagnostics of these components under real conditions, actual lifetimes of the components at nuclear power plant (NPP) were forecasted. It is shown that in order to extend the lifetime of the drive components up to the reactor lifetime (60 years), it is necessary to replace the sensor of the DPL-type by the new one (of the DPL-KV type) and to decrease the electromagnet temperature. The Measuring and Diagnostic System with the DPL-KV sensor enables diagnosing the sensor, electronic processing unit and drive. Economic effect due to the cumulative technical decisions is estimated to be 7 mln.euro per NPP unit.

Opis:
Force/position control strategies provide an effective framework to deal with tasks involving interaction with the environment. One of these strategies proposed in the literature is external force feedback loop control. It fully employs the available sensor measurements by operating the control action in a full dimensional space without using selection matrices. The performance of this control strategy is affected by uncertainties in both the robot dynamic model and environment stiffness. The purpose of this paper is to improve controller robustness by applying a neural network technique in order to compensate the effect of uncertainties in the robot model. We show that this control strategy is robust with respect to payload uncertainties, position and environment stiffness, and dry and viscous friction. Simulation results for a three degrees-of-freedom manipulator and various types of environments and trajectories show the effectiveness of the suggested approach compared with classical external force feedback loop structures.

In this paper the problem of vibration reduction is considered. Generally, mechanical vibrations occurring during the operation of a system are undesirable and may have a negative effect on its reliability. A finite element model of a single active blade is developed using the Abaqus software. This structure consists of a multi-layer glass-epoxy composite beam with an embedded macro fiber composite (MFC) piezoelectric actuator. For vibration control the use of a positive position feedback (PPF) controller is proposed. To include the PPF controller in the Abaqus software, a special subroutine is created. The developed control algorithm code makes it possible to solve an additional differential equation by the fourth order RungeKutta method. A numerical dynamic analysis is performed by the implicit procedure. The beam responses with and without controller activation are compared. The control subsystem model also includes the hysteresis phenomenon of the piezoelectric actuator. Numerical findings regarding the PPF controller’s effectiveness are verified experimentally.

Opis:
This paper addresses fault-tolerant control for position mooring of a shuttle or floating production storage and offloading vessels. A complete framework for fault diagnosis is presented. A loss of a sub-sea mooring line buoyancy element and line breakage are given particular attention, since such failures might cause high-risk abortion of an oil-loading operation. With significant drift forces from waves, non-Gaussian elements dominate forces and the residuals designed for fault diagnosis. Hypothesis testing is designed using dedicated change detection for the type of distribution encountered. A new position recovery algorithm is proposed as a means of fault accommodation in order to keep the mooring system in a safe state, despite faults. The position control is shown to be capable of accommodating serious failures and preventing breakage of a mooring line, or a loss of a buoyancy element, from causing subsequent failures. Properties of the detection and fault-tolerant control algorithms are demonstrated by high fidelity simulations.

Opis:
This paper describes high-performance permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) servo-drive with constrained state feedback (SFC) position controller. Superior behavior of the control system has been achieved by applying SFC with constraints handling method based on a posteriori model predictive approach (MPAC). The concept utilizes predictive equations obtained from discrete-time model of the PMSM to compute control signals which generate admissible values of the future state variables. The novelty of the proposed solution lies in the limitation of several state-space variables in servo-drive control system. Since MPAC has firstly been applied to limit more than one state-space variable of the plant, necessary conditions for introducing constraints into multivariable control system with SFC are depicted. Due to the low complexity of proposed algorithm, a low cost microprocessor, STM32F4, is employed to execute the state feedback position control with model predictive approach to constraints handling. Experimental results show that the proposed control method provides superior performance of PMSM servodrive with modern SiC based voltage source inverter (VSI).

Opis:
Due to the star connection of the windings, the impact of the third harmonic which does not exist in three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) cannot be ignored in five-phase PMSM. So the conventional sensorless control methods for three-phase PMSM cannot be applied for five-phase PMSM directly. To achieve the sensorless control for five-phase PMSM, an iterative sliding mode observer (ISMO) is proposed with the consideration of the third harmonic impact. First, a sliding mode observer (SMO) is designed based on the fivephase PMSM model with the third harmonic to reduce the chattering and obtain the equivalent signal of the back electromotive force (EMF). Then, an adaptive back EMF observer is built to estimate the motor speed and rotor position, which eliminates the low-pass filter and phase compensation module and improves the estimation accuracy. Meanwhile, by iteratively using the SMO in one current sampling period to adjust the sliding mode gains, the sliding mode chattering and estimation errors of motor speed and rotor position are further reduced. Besides, the stability of the SMO and the adaptive back EMF observer are demonstrated in detail by Lyapunov stability criteria. Experiment results verify the effectiveness of the proposed observer for sensorless control of five-phase PMSM.
