Field observations and literature reveal that land use and soil characteristics play an important role in the development of piping. In this study, the hypothesis is tested that discontinuities in the soil profile favour piping erosion in loess-derived soils in a temperate humid climate. Abiotic characteristics (clay content, bulk density, Ksat, penetration resistance) and the biological activity in the soil were measured for each soil horizon until a depth of at least 40 cm below the pipes (ca. 1.30 m) for 12 representative soil profiles with different land use (pasture with and without collapsed pipes, arable land and forest). No clear discontinuities in abiotic characteristics were observed at soil depths where subsurface pipes occurred, but pastures with piping had significantly more earthworm channels and mole burrows at larger depths than pastures without piping, arable land or forest.

Opis:
The question of how the effects of management and organisational variables can be incorporated into assessment of frequency of loss containment events is currently of considerable interest. Usually these typology of events arises from an uncontrolled accidental phenomena or a combination of active and latent human errors in areas such as design, operations and maintenance. In the 2006 a development of a methodology for the quantification of the effects of measures of risk prevention or mitigation on the frequencies of rupture of pipework has been presented, the approach is based on the methodology proposed by Papazoglou in 1999. Taking advantage of Papazoglou methodology the estimation of these effects has been achieved through the definition of the links between the failure causes that are the origin of incidents and the measures adopted by the company in order to prevent and/or to mitigate them. After an overview on the failure causes in piping, the aim of this paper is to present the application of the recent modified methodology.

This paper presents the findings of two experiments on pied-piping by a prenominal adjunct in Hungarian focus- and wh-constructions. According to Webelhuth (1992) and Cable (2010), pied-piping from adjunct islands is prohibited. The results of the experiments, however, suggest that not only is it possible in Hungarian for the pied-piper to be embedded inside an adjunct island but the embedding of the pied-piper and the movement itself are unrestricted in focus-construction. Pied-piping shows a similar picture in wh-constructions with the restriction that the wh-element has to be discourse-linked for pied-piping to be allowed.

The soil piping that occurs on luvisols in the vicinity of the village of Halenkovice was studied for 5 years. These piping phenomena can only be found where arable land meets the forest or a belt of shrubbery. If there is a scarp in the locality, which usually changes from 6° in the field to approximately 30° in the forest, soil pipes are more likely to occur. Before the scarp, the slope flattens out and it is almost horizontal. This factor makes it possible for the overland flow to seep into the slope. This seepage results in soil piping, which is formed in loess loam and colluvial deposits. There are about 15 sites in the vicinity of the village of Halenkovice, where soil piping occurs. In one of them, Halenkovice 1 (an area of 900 m2) we closely studied 47 partial cavities. Their internal volume is 3.8 m3. The volume of the sink holes is 23 m3. There are two types of soil pipes – vertical, which on average tend to be shorter (40 cm) and lead the water under the surface, and soil pipes parallel with the slope, which are on average 81 cm long. Water flows through the pipes during a thaw or precipitation, which often takes away the top soil. The intensity of this process depends on the intensity of precipitation, which occurs outside the growing season, when there are no crops in the fields.

The process improvement operations are very significant in shipbuilding industry as the other industries. In recent years, the shipyards attempt to improve their processes by examining their current production system and to reduce the cycle time of the interim product so that they can keep their competitive power. If the cycle time of the interim products is decrease, that may cause to increase the annual production capacity and market share of the shipyard. In order to do this, the shipyards have to analyse their own production system and carry out some improvements on it. In this study, the effects of carrying out the outfitting and piping assembly operations in earlier work stations were investigated by using a methodology presented here. The steps in the methodology were applied to a double bottom block of a container ship. It was shown that if the outfitting and the piping assembly operations are carried out in earlier stations instead of the block assembly station, this may increase the throughput by 33%. The results of the study were discussed in the final section.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present practical and research lessons learned from analysis and the identification of failures which can occur. Failure mode and effects piping analysis (FMEPA) has been shown to be an effective way of improving piping design reliability. FMEPA is also employed for making sample control plans. Design/methodology/approach – To reduce project losses by using failure mode and effects piping analysis as a tool for analysis of the piping design department. The samples were selected from five projects. It was found that nine major points yielded a risk priority number (RPN) higher than 125. Findings – Results of RPN calculation concerning four topics revealed that the RPN value was reduced from 211 to 75, demonstrating a 64.4 percent improvement. Research limitations/implications – The study is limited to a planning and piping case study which considers RPN. Testing of the performance network regression model can be employed in companies, in which quality control has been implemented of solutions for failure prevention of piping design. Practical implications – This paper serves practitioners as a guideline and tool to understand and implement the FMEPA methodology. At this level, management sets the limits for determining measures. Management also decides whether a risk is acceptable or not. Management needs to clarify which risk priority number (RPN) represents the critical level above which requires risk reduction. Social implications – Conflicts and social unrest can cause costly delays to new projects and operations. Conflicts can also result in damage to a company’s reputation. This depends on the company’s responses to the conflict and the consequences or perceived consequences of its behavior and actions. Originality/value – This paper furnishes lessons learned for practitioners in various industrial sectors in preference to other methods of risk assessment and control activities.

In the article the impact of the structure of pipeline transportation systems on the efficiency of their operation is examined. It is shown that, depending on the assumed structure, transport systems can be characterized by different performance characteristics. It is established that the structure of the system influences the development of the aging process and decrease system performance. Recommendations on the choice of the structure of systems that can be used at the design stage are given.
Рассмотрены вопросы влияния структуры трубопроводных транспортных систем на эффективность их функционирования. Показано, что в зависимости от принятой структуры, транспортные системы могут характеризоваться различными эксплуатационными показателями. Установлено, что структура системы оказывает влияние на развитие процессов старения и снижение эффективности функционирования систем.

Opis:
The paper explores the mathematical and computer modeling of complex technical systems related to their operation processes. The complex technical system with the reliability structure and components’ reliability parameters changing at the various operation states is defined. The selected system operation process parameters and the hypothetical distribution functions of the conditional sojourn times at the operation states are defined and identified. The reliability functions of the multistate system and components are introduced and their parameters are identified. The Monte Carlo simulation method is proposed to the complex system reliability evaluation. Moreover, the proposed theoretical and simulation tools are supported with the practical application to the multi-state port oil piping transportation system reliability analysis.

The estimation of leak and break frequencies in piping systems is part of the probabilistic safety assessment of technical plants. In this paper, the statistical method based on the evaluation of the German operational experience for piping systems with different diameters is described because an earlier estimation has been updated and extended introducing new methodical aspects and data. Major point is the inclusion of structure reliability models based on fracture mechanics calculation procedures. As an example of application the statistical estimation method for leak and break frequencies of piping systems with a nominal diameter of 50 mm (the volume control system of a German pressurized water reactor) was updated. Moreover, the evaluation of the operational experience was extended to 341 years with respect to cracks, leaks and breaks in the volume control system of German pressurized water reactors (PWR). Using the actual data base, new calculations of leak and break frequencies have been performed and the results have been compared with the previous values.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań modelu siłowni wiatrowej pracującej w obudowie rurowej z zainstalowanym konfuzorem. Testowano wpływ względnej średnicy jak i długości konfuzora na generowana moc przez tę siłownię. Najwyższe wartości mocy uzyskano wtedy, gdy względna średnica konfuzora wynosiła 1,6, a względna długość 0,2.
The paper presents the results of testing a model wind power plant operating inside a piping enclosure with a confusor installed. The effect of the relative diameter and length of the confusor on the power generated by that wind power plant was investigated. The greatest power values were obtained when the relative diameter of the confusor was 1.6 and the relative length was 0.2.

Opis:
Assessment of the negative impact on the components of the natural environment during the scheduled and repair outages of gas-compressor units in transportation the process of the natural gas was the purpose of the performed scientific work. The results of the monitoring studies, in which the methane concentrations were measured in the atmospheric air near the source of pollution and on the border of the sanitary protection zone during volley emissions of natural gas into the atmosphere, are presented in the article. In addition, a method that eliminates the release of the natural gas into the atmosphere during the scheduled and repair outages of gas-compressor units are suggested in the article. The method is based on the redistribution of gas flows and the direction of natural gas to the gas distribution station. Volley emissions of methane into the atmosphere will completely eliminated as a result of implementing this method. The proposed technical solution is aimed at reducing the negative impact on atmospheric air near gas compressor stations. Moreover, the proposed method is able to minimize the economic damage to gas companies because of the loss of marketable products.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań ciśnienia w przewodzie gazowym. Badania wykonano dla różnych konfiguracji układu wtryskowego (średnica i długość przewodu) oraz wybranych warunków obciążenia silnika. Uzyskane wyniki poddano analizie pod kątem wpływu wartości średnicy wewnętrznej i długości przewodu gazowego łączącego impulsowy zawór gazu z przewodem dolotowym oraz wartości średnicy dyszy wtryskowej zamocowanej w ściance przewodu dolotowego silnika na potrzebną wartość czasu impulsu sterującego wtryskiwaczem, gwarantującą podanie odpowiedniej dawki paliwa gazowego. Przeprowadzona analiza istotności różnic wartości średnich wykonanych pomiarów wykazała zróżnicowanie procesów gazodynamicznych w przewodzie gazowym. Zróżnicowanie to w zależności od parametrów konstrukcyjnych wpływa na przebieg wtrysku w silniku o zapłonie iskrowym. Tym samym wpływa na błąd sterowania składem mieszanki. Na podstawie analizy wyników wykazano, że zwiększająca się długość przewodu i zmniejszająca się średnica dyszy powodują zwiększenie czasu wtrysku paliwa gazowego w stosunku do wartości czasu wtrysku wtryskiwacza bezpośrednio połączonego z przewodem dolotowym.
This paper presents the research results on gas inlet pressure. Varied configurations of an injection system (varied duct diameters and lengths) and selected engine loads were investigated. The results were studied to specify how the desired time of a pulse to control an injector to provide a correct dose of gas is impacted by an internal diameter and length of injection ducts connecting a pulse gas injector and an inlet duct as well as a diameter of an injection nozzle installed at an intake duct wall. The significance of discrepancies in the mean values of the measurements was investigated and showed that gaseous and dynamic processes in a gas ducts can differ. Accordingly, as regarded engine design parameters, the course of injection in spark-ignition engines and thus the control error of mixture composition are impacted. Our study demonstrates that with increasing duct lengths and decreasing nozzle diameters, the time to inject gaseous fuels can be longer in relation to the time to inject gaseous fuels if an injector is directly connected to the intake duct.

W artykule zaproponowano wielostanowe podejście do oceny bezpieczeństwa systemów oraz zastosowane są procesy semi-markova do modelowania ich procesu eksploatacji. Zdefiniowano funkcję bezpieczeństwa systemu i funkcja ryzyka systemu. Zaproponowano również podejście do rozwiązania bardzo ważnego, praktycznego problemu powiązania bezpieczeństwa systemów z ich procesami eksploatacji. Zastosowanie proponowanej metody zostało przedstawione na przykładzie oceny bezpieczeństwa portowego systemu transportu paliwa.
A multi-state approach to estimation of the systems' safety is proposed and a semi-markov processes for their operation modelling are applied. A system safety function and a system risk function are defined. The paper offers an approach to the solution of a practically very important problem of linking the systems' safety and their operation processes. Application of the proposed method is illustrated in the safety evaluation of the port oil transportation system.

The problem of finding the parameters of the gas transmission system in terms of its operations under unsteady operating modes are considered. We show mathematical models of gas flows in the basic facilities in the system with a complicated piping diagram. The solution is built to solve a system of partial differentia equations with the finite element method of large dimension with boundary conditions, some of which are designed in the process of solving the system of equations. This is due to the provision of technical and technological constraints on the pressure of the controlled points of the system. On the resistance to finding a solution significantly affects a step of the time coordinate. The proposed algorithm in the editing process of flow diagrams provides an increase in stability of solving systems of equations, and significantly reduces the time for the simulation.

The aim of this article are considerations on welded and non-welded tube connection technologies, with advantages and disadvantages of both. After choosing non-welded solutions as the assembly method of choice, the thesis progresses to describing the most widely-used tube connection technologies (JIC, Ermeto, retain ring flanges, flared tube flanges and other, minor, solutions) and their properties.
Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie rozważań na temat spawanych i niespawanych połączeń rurociągów, wraz z wadami i zaletami tych dwóch podejść do łączenia rur. Wybrawszy metody niespawanego budowania rurociągów, praca opisuje najpopularniejsze techniki łączenia rur (JIC, Ermeto, kołnierze z pierścieniem oporowym, kołnierze do rur kielichowanych i inne, rzadsze systemy), wymieniając ich charakterystyczne cechy.

Opis:
Purpose: To establish the dependence of the change in the values of the twisting angle of the flexible pipeline on the internal water pressure and the defect length, which is directed along and across the axis of the sleeve. Design/methodology/approach: Experimental studies were conducted in two stages. At the first stage, the methodology and plan of the experiment were developed, the factors and their values were determined, and experimental studies were conducted. The limits of variation in the area of factor spaces were established based on the basic analysis of a priori information. The length of the defect was 0, 50 and 100 mm. The pressure values in the sleeve were 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6 MPa. Adequacy of the obtained regression equations was checked using Fisher's test. At the second stage, the analysis of the research results was carried out and the numerical values of the factors that most affect the change in the value of the twisting angle of the sleeve were established. Findings: According to the results of experimental studies, the dependences of the change in the twisting angle of the flexible pipeline on the internal water pressure and the length of the defect were obtained. It was established that the dependence of the previously mentioned factors is close to linear. The largest discrepancy in the maximum sleeve twist angle – 21% was observed at pressure values of 0.4 MPa. Research limitations/implications: The research was limited to only two factors: the defect length and the pressure in the middle of the sleeve. Such factors as the degree of wear of the sleeve, the type of sleeve and the number of defects on the test sample were not taken into account. Practical implications: The obtained results can be used during the development of a new method of testing flexible pipelines, which will allow to establish hidden defects in them. Originality/value: For the first time, the dependence of the influence of the size and direction of the defect on the reinforcing frame of the pressure fire hose on the value of its twist angle at constant internal pressure indicators was established.

Strefa brzegowa Zbiornika Brackiego na rzece Angarze jest niezwykle ciekawym przykładem złożonego kompleksu procesów egzogenicznych z wyraźnym wpływem antropopresji, będącej wynikiem utworzenia zbiornika wodnego i jego eksploatacji. Badania monitoringowe, rozpoczęte jeszcze przed utworzeniem zbiornika, wskazują na transformację i intensyfikację przebiegu procesów egzogenicznych zachodzących na tym obszarze przed utworzeniem zbiornika (procesy osuwiskowe, procesy krasowe, erozja linijna), objęcie nimi kolejnych terenów, wcześniej pasywnych, jak również pojawienie się procesów nowych, przedtem nie występujących w tym regionie (procesy eoliczne, procesy abrazyjno-akumulacyjne). Badania te prowadzone są przez pracowników Instytutu Skorupy Ziemskiej RAN, a od kilku lat, w ramach dwustronnych umów, uczestniczą w nich również pracownicy Instytutu Geografii i Przestrzennego Zagospodarowania PAN.
The Brack Reservoir on Angara river was created in 1967. It is the second in terms of capacity (170 km3) and surface (5,500 km2) man-made lake on Earth. Monitoring tests, that started before the reservoir has been created, gives the information about transformation and intensification of exogenous processes occurring in this area, in comparison to state before reservoir creation (landslides, karst, erosion processes). Those processes have taken new areas. Additionally on this area new processes have appeared as result of reservoir exploitation (eolian processes, accumulation-abrasive processes).
