Opis:
Visualization in research process plays a crucial role. There are several advanced plots for visualizing categorical data, such as mosaic, association, double-decker, sieve or fourfold plot that are based on the graphical presentation of residuals in a contingency table. In this paper we present new methods for visualizing categorical data such as rmb, fluctile and scpcp plot available in extracat package in R. This package provides a well-structured representation of categorical data and allows for a detailed presentation of the relationship between categories in terms of proportions. We describe rmb, fluctile and cpcp. Those plots are based on the concept of multiple bar charts, a fluctuation diagram from a multidimensional table and parallel coordinates respectively. Such plots are mostly used for a visualization of a contingency table or a data frame; they can also be used for exploratory analysis and allows for a graphical presentation even for a high number of variables [Pilhöfer, Unwin 2013]. All the calculations and plots are obtained using R software.

The aim of the study is to evaluate the spatial variation in the size and shape of land plots in Mazowieckie voivodship. For the purposes of the study both the shape and the compactness of the plots were measured, and the typology of communes was drawn based on this information. Subsequently, based on the two indicators related to the shape of plots, four types of communes were distinguished, depending on whether their values were higher or lower than the average (Dzieciuchowicz and Dmochowska-Dudek, 2014). In addition, the paper includes calculations for the average share of unused land in the plot surface area, the average horizontal intensity of parcel development, and an indication of the type of land coverage dominant in the plots, by commune type. Pearson’s correlation coefficient was used in the analyses. It has been found that the studied area is dominated by plots characterised by small diversity in shape and high degree of compactness – mainly in the north-western part of the voivodship, as well as those where plots are highly diverse in shape and low in compactness – in the south-eastern part of the voivodship.

W celu zilustrowania proponowanej w pracy metody analizy statystycznej danych nieortogo¬nalnych z krzyżową i zagnieżdżoną strukturą poziomów czynników wykorzystano wyniki z kompletnego doświadczenia kombinowanego z łubinem. Na podstawie tego doświadczenia zostały wygenerowane obserwacje z zachowaniem relacji występujących w układzie kompletnym. Oznacza to, że zamieszczone w tej pracy wnioski należy traktować jedynie w kategorii metodyki planowania i analizy tego typu danych. W doświadczeniu badano wpływ terminu siewu (A) i rozstawy (C) na plon wybranych odmian łubinu (B). W pracy zrezygnowano z kompletności układu i zaplanowano doświadczenie z blokami mniejszymi niż liczba kombinacji obiektowych. W celu porównania skuteczności proponowanych układów doświadczalnych pod względem estymacji efektów porównań między kombinacjami obiektowymi, wykonano analizy statystyczne dwa razy, raz stosując model mieszany dla układu split-block-plot (strip-split-plot) oraz drugi raz dla układu split-plot × split-block. Przedstawione tu układy są niekompletne ze względu na obiekty czynnika trzeciego (C), a kompletne ze względu na obiekty pozostałych dwóch czynników. Zakładając, że wszystkie porównania dotyczące obiektów czynnika C są jednakowo ważne, jako układ generujący wybrano układ zrównoważony o blokach niekompletnych (BIB). Ze względu na nieortogonalność trójczynnikowych układów oraz różne struktury ich jednostek doświadczalnych, wnioski dotyczące relatywnej efektywności ograniczone zostały do analiz wewnątrz tych warstw, które są właściwe dla różnych typów obiektów i porównań między nimi.
To illustrate the proposed in this paper method of a statistical analysis of non-orthogonal data with nested and crossed treatment structures, some results from a complete factorial experiment with lupine were used. The observations have been collected keeping up relations occurring in the original experiment. It means that our conclusions should be treated only in terms of the methodology of a design and analysis of this type of data. The experiment has been designed to test the effects of dates of sowing (A) and spacing (C) on the yield of some lupine varieties (B). In the paper is assumed that the experiment was designed with block sizes less than the number of treatment combinations. For comparing the effectiveness of some experiment designs which are commonly used in such study, the statistical analyses have been performed twice, once using the mixed model for observations from the split-block-plot (strip-split-plot) type experiment and then the mixed model for observations from split-plot × split-block type experiment. Both designs presented in this paper are incomplete with respect to the treatments of the third factor (C) and complete with respect to the treatments of the remaining two factors. It was assumed that all comparisons among C treatments effects are equally important, so a balanced incomplete block (BIB) design was chosen as the generating design. Since the both three factorial designs are non-orthogonal and have got different structures of the experimental units, the conclusions considering relative efficiency of them have been limited to the intra-stratum analyses appropriated for the type of comparisons of treatment combinations effects.

The article presents a study of the typical lyrical plot, representing the hero-poet in his study room. Comparative analysis of Russian lyric poems of different genres (elegy and others) and authors (Batyushkov, Pushkin, Fet, Polonsky and others) reveals the certain traditions in evolution of this plot – in comparison with the similar tradition in novel (investigated earlier by N. Nyagolova). In the beginning of 20th century these traditions can be observed in Bunin’s poetry and two poems of I. Annensky and N. Gumilev.

We investigate the nonlinear time series of Indicated Mean Effective Pressure (IMEP) of the spark ignition engine cyclic combustion process of a natural gas. By applying the embedding theorem and the recurrence plots technique, we show changes in the engine dynamics for different equivalence ratios. Especially, we provide arguments for intermittency behaviour.
Zbadano nieliniowe przebiegi czasowe Średniego Ciśnienia Indykowanego cyklicznego procesu spalania w silniku spalinowym zasilanym gazem naturalnym. Stosując twierdzenie o zanurzeniu oraz technikę wykresów rekurencyjnych, pokazano istotne różnice w dynamice silnika przy zmianie składu mieszanki paliwa wyrażonej wartością współczynnika równowagowego. W szczególności podano argumenty przemawiające za występowaniem zjawiska intermitencji.

The aim of the study is to investigate common motifs, characters, metaphors and plots in Sergey Dovlatov’s Compromise and Ilya Ilf and Yevgeny Petrov’s novels The Twelve Chairs and The Little Golden Calf using the structural and comparative-historical methods. In this case study Compromise is treated as the text, in which Dovlatov determines the underlying principle for reading the short stories contained in his Compromise collection in the context of the novels The Twelve Chairs and The Little Golden Calf by Ilf and Petrov. The results of the research are confirmed by the contextual study of Dovlatov’s correspondence. This allows us to state that the novels of Ilf and Petrov are the subtext of Sergei Dovlatov’s work. The article opens totally new and inspiring directions of Dovlatov studies, since no other scholars have ever turned their attention to the relationships between Dovlatov’s works and the traditions of Ilf and Petrov.

The paper aims at analyzing the relationship between Eric Rohmer’s A Tale of Winter (Conte d’hiver, 1992) and Shakespeare’s late comedy. Although both works are entitled similarly, at first glance they have hardly anything in common, aside from one scene in which the two main characters watch Shakespeare’s play staged in a theatre. The author argues, however, that many references to original comedy, both on the level of plot and structure, can be found in Rohmer’s movie, which can therefore be perceived as a loose adaptation of Shakespeare’s work.

The article is devoted to the research of the motif of deception in the fairy‑tales of the Polish and Ukrainian writer S. Ostashevskyi. The work offers arguments for the topicality of the research as well as for the choice of the analysis methodology. It also emphasizes the significance of studying the author’s creative works with a view to revealing those connections between Ukrainian and Polish culture which indisputably prove their kinship. Four types of the deception motif have been distinguished based on the collections of fairy‑tales Half‑a‑Kopa Fairy‑Tales for the Little World and Half‑a‑Hundred Fairy‑Tales for Jolly People. These types are as follows: “a creature with superpowers deceives people by appearing in front of them in an anthropomorphous, intentionally inferior, everyday image”, “an infernal character takes people in without changing its image but promising material benefits and solutions to people’s life problems in exchange for their own souls or their children’s souls”, “a person (usually, a woman) deceives/tries to deceive an infernal character or some supreme forces in general”, and “a person deludes another person”. The comparison of this material with the corresponding folklore and literary heritage has defined the specificity of using and transforming the deception motif by S. Ostashevskyi: dependence on the expression of the religious idea, comical play such as appears in the 19th‑century burlesque and travesty art, and reflection on the harmonious combination of Ukrainian and Polish folklore traditions.

The analyses presented in the article reverse the traditional course of studies which assume that the poetics of a dramatic text is instrumentally superior to that of the libretto. In order to adapt the hypothesis that contemporary drama is increasingly libretto-like, inserted into its structure is, excerpted by opera theatre researchers, the libretto poetics treated as a genealogical directive specific to the genre which differentiates it from the “third kind” in its classical expressions. The breakup of the basic categories constituting a drama ( character, dialogue and plot ) brings it visibly closer to the traditional operatic libretto with features characterised by Albert Gier, among others. The post-dramatic aesthetics adapted by contemporary opera and drama, which removes the character or reduces it to a voice treated merely as a medium, absolutising the way a word sounds and the poetics of a transsystemic remix all result in the emergence of a common aesthetics of the stage chimaera genre.

The main objective of this research is to map the morphological changes in the selected area of Krakow after the political changes in Poland and Eastern Europe in 1989. The development described was conditioned by changes in urban law in Poland, which led to a situation of no general rules at Masterplan level, what we have termed plot by plot urbanism.

W pracy przedstawiono przykład konstrukcji układu niekompletnego split-split-plot (SSP) dla nieortogonalnego doświadczenia trójczynnikowego. Niekompletność układu SSP jest związana z obiektami czynnika trzeciego w kolejności. W pracy układem generującym jest układ zrównoważony o blokach niekompletnych (BIB). Podane są właściwości statystyczne układu finalnego SSP ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem właściwości ogólnego zrównoważenia układu. Zaproponowano analizę statystyczną właściwą dla doświadczeń wielowarstwowych oraz analizę kontrastów. Rozważania zilustrowano danymi wygenerowanymi z doświadczenia ortogonalnego z łubinem.
In the paper a construction method of an incomplete split-split-plot (SSP) design for a non-orthogonal experiment is presented. Incompleteness of the SSP design concerns sub-subplot treatments. Balanced incomplete block (BIB) design is used as generating design in the construction method. Statistical properties of the final SSP design with respect to general balance are given. Multistratum analysis and the analysis of contrasts are proposed as adequate statistical analysis. Considerations are illustrated using data generated from some orthogonal experiment with lupine.

Antun Gustav Matoš has affirmed the Croatian short story and that is why his short story collections have initiated a major „breakthrough” in terms of this genre’s reception. His narrative oeuvre includes the following collections: Iverje (Wood Shavings, 1899), Novo iverje (New Wood Shavings, 1900) and Umorne priče (Tired Tales, 1909). Depending on the type of motif, his short stories have been read as follows: 1. stories about local people and events; 2. humorous stories about people at home and abroad; 3. stories about unusual, unbelievable „unreal” events; 4. stories of enchanting and yearning love; 5. lyrical cadenzas. His symbolic-grotesque-fantastic story Moć savjesti (The Power of Conscience) marked his entry into the world of narrative literature. In this story, the binary relationship between the theme and the motif is recognised in the gap between the world of wakefulness and the world of dreams, reality and fantasy, what is real and what is unreal, the actual life and the ideal life, the object and the subject. At the same time, however, Matoš is trying to unite these opposites. In his other short stories, unusual plots become an expression of a deep ontological crisis which engulfed the European culture and art during modernism. The maxim of modern art at the turn of the century is „the world is a text”: art is a subjective reconstruction of the world and therefore plots, with all their logical cause and effect relationships, are no longer important since they cannot express other spheres of consciousness. In his short stories, the bizarre plots were used by Matoš to join two worlds, the world of outward reality and the world of imagination, the empirical and the fantastic, the possible and the impossible.

Depending on the type of motif, his short stories have been read as follows: 1. stories about local people and events; 2. humorous stories about people at home and abroad; 3. stories about unusual, unbelievable „unreal” events; 4. stories of enchanting and yearning love; 5. lyrical cadenzas. His symbolic-grotesque-fantastic story Moć savjesti (The Power of Conscience) marked his entry into the world of narrative literature. In this story, the binary relationship between the theme and the motif is recognised in the gap between the world of wakefulness and the world of dreams, reality and fantasy, what is real and what is unreal, the actual life and the ideal life, the object and the subject. At the same time, however, Matoš is trying to unite these opposites. In his other short stories, unusual plots become an expression of a deep ontological crisis which engulfed the European culture and art during modernism. The maxim of modern art at the turn of the century is „the world is a text”: art is a subjective reconstruction of the world and therefore plots, with all their logical cause and effect relationships, are no longer important since they cannot express other spheres of consciousness. In his short stories, the bizarre plots were used by Matoš to join two worlds, the world of outward reality and the world of imagination, the empirical and the fantastic, the possible and the impossible.
