Opis:
The problem of boundary layer flow and heat transfer of nanofluids over nonlinear stretching of a flat sheet in the presence of a magnetic field and chemical reaction is investigated numerically. In this paper, a new locally modified single-phase model for the analysis is introduced. In this model, the effective viscosity, density and thermal conductivity of the solid-liquid mixtures (nanofluids) which are commonly utilized in the homogenous single-phase model, are locally combined with the prevalent single-phase model. Similarity transformation is used to convert the governing equations into three coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations. These equations depend on five local functions of the nanoparticle volume fraction viz., local viscosity ratio, magnetic, Prandtl, Brownian motion and thermophoresis functions. The equations are solved using Newton’s method and a block tridiagonal matrix solver. The results are compared to the prevalent single-phase model. In addition, the effect of important governing parameters on the velocity, temperature, volume fraction distribution and the heat and mass transfer rates are examined.

Opis:
In this study, nickel nanoparticles were synthesized in ethanol using portable pulsed wire evaporation, which is a one-step physical method. From transmission electron microscopy images, it was found that the Ni nanoparticles exhibited a spherical shape with an average diameter of 7.3 nm. To prevent aggregation of the nickel nanoparticles, a polymer surfactant was added into the ethanol before the synthesis of nickel nanoparticles, and adsorbed on the freshly synthesized nickel nanoparticles during the wire explosion. The dispersion stability of the prepared nickel nanofluids was investigated by zeta-potential analyzer and Turbiscan optical analyzer. As a result, the optimum concentration of polymer surfactant to be added was suggested for the maximized dispersion stability of the nickel nanofluids.

Opis:
In this paper, variational homotopy perturbation method with Padé approximant technique is applied to investigate the impacts of inclined magnetic field, flow medium porosity and thermal radiation on free convection flow and heat transfer of Casson nanofluids over a vertical plate. The accuracies of the developed analytical methods are verified by comparing the results of the analytical solutions with the results of past works as presented in literature. Thereafter, the analytical solutions are used to investigate the effects of thermal radiation; Prandtl number, nanoparticles volume-fraction, shape and type on the flow and heat transfer behaviour of various nanofluids over the flat plate. It is observed that both the velocity and temperature of the nanofluid as well viscous and thermal boundary layers increase with increase in the radiation parameter. The velocity and temperature of the nanofluid decreases and increases, respectively as the Prandtl number and volume-fraction of the nanoparticles in the basefluid increase. The maximum decrease in velocity and maximum increase in temperature are caused lamina shaped nanoparticle and followed by platelets, cylinder, bricks and sphere-shaped nanoparticles, respectively. It is hoped that the present study will enhance the understanding of free convection boundary-layer problems under the influence of thermal radiation as applied in various engineering processes.

An unsteady flow and melting heat transfer of a nanofluid over a stretching sheet was numerically studied by considering the effect of chemical reaction and thermal radiation. The governing non-linear partial differential equations describing the flow problem are reduced to a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations using the similarity transformations and solved numerically using the Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg fourth–fifth order method. Numerical results for concentration, temperature and velocity profiles are shown graphically and discussed for different physical parameters. Effect of pertinent parameters on momentum, temperature and concentration profiles along with local Sherwood number, local skin-friction coefficient and local Nusselt number are well tabulated and discussed.

This work investigates a three-dimensional Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) nanofluid flow with heat and mass transfer over a porous stretching sheet. Firstly, partial differential equations are transformed into coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations through a similarity variables transformation and solved by Galerkin Finite Element Methods (FEM). The effects of thermal radiation, viscous dissipation and chemical reaction on the fluid flow are considered. The behaviour and properties of pertinent flow parameters on the velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are presented and discussed graphically. The effects of the friction coefficient parameter, Nusselt and Sherhood numbers are also shown and considered using tables. The work is in good agreement in comparison with the recent work in literature.

Opis:
Thermo-fluid properties are required for numerical modeling of nano/micro devices. These properties are mostly obtained from results of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Therefore, efforts have been put in developing methods for numerical evaluation of fluid properties, such as pressure. In this paper, the pressure behavior in a controllable nanochannel flow is investigated. The nanoflow field is created by imposing a gradient of a macroscopic property such as temperature. Details of the pressure calculation method in a molecular system and its sensitivity to the approximations made are described first. The effect of temperature rise in a uniform flow on the pressure field is studied next. Then, in the flow under a fixed mean velocity condition, the effect of temperature gradient as a controllable property on the pressure field of nanoflow is studied. Velocity, pressure and molecular density of nanoflows with various temperature gradients and different temperature levels are investigated as well. It has been found that the temperature level at which the temperature gradient is imposed, is important. A fixed temperature gradient will not always lead to the same pressure gradient at different temperature levels. Furthermore, quite interestingly, it is observed that at a fixed temperature gradient, with the variation of mean velocity the pressure field also varies.

The paper is a thermodynamics analysis of the removal of any inert gas from the tank using the vapors of any liquefied petroleum gas cargo (called cargo tank gassing-up operation). For this purpose, a thermodynamic model was created which considers two boundary cases of this process. The first is a ‘piston pushing’ of inert gas using liquefied petroleum gas vapour. The second case is complete mixing of both gases and removal the mixture from the tank to the atmosphere until desired concentration or amount of liquefied petroleum gas cargo in the tank is reached. Calculations make it possible to determine the amount of a gas used to complete the operation and its loss incurred as a result of total mixing of both gases.

An analysis into the transient natural convective flow of a nanofluid in a vertical tube is made. The governing equations of momentum, heat transfer and nanoparticle volume fraction are deduced, and the influence of the thermophoresis parameter and Brownian motion is incorporated. By direct integration and variation of the parameter, analytical solutions are obtained for flow formation and heat/mass transfer at steady-state. On the other hand, due to the complexity of same problem at transient state, a numerical solution is used to solve the discretized equations of motion using the implicit finite difference technique. The influence of the thermophoresis parameter and Brownian motion is noted and well discussed. For accuracy check, a numerical comparison is made between the steady state and transient state solution at large time; this comparison gives an excellent agreement. The role of various principal parameters on velocity profile, temperature, concentration of nanoparticles, Sherwood and Nusselt numbers are presented graphically and well discussed. It is noted that the buoyancy ratio decreases the fluid velocity significantly.

In this paper, triple diffusive convective boundary layer flow of Casson nanofluid along a horizontal plate is investigated theoretically when nonlinear thermal radiation impact is considered. The suitable similarity transformations is utilized for the reduction of a set of basic governing nonlinear PDEs into nonlinear non-dimensional ODEs. Heat and mass transfer stretched flow of an incompressible, electrically conducting Jeffrey fluid has been studied numerically. Nanoparticles are suspended in the base fluid and it has many applications such as cooling of engines, thermal absorption systems, lubricants fuel cell, nanodrug delivery system and so on. Temperature dependent variable thermal conductivity with Rosseland approximation is taken into account and suction effect is employed in the boundary conditions. The governing partial differential equations are first transformed into set of ordinary differential equations using selected similarity transformations, which are then solved numerically using Runge-Kutta-Felhberg fourth-fifth order method along with shooting technique. The flow, heat and mass transfer characteristics with local Nusselt number for various physical parameters are presented graphically and a detailed discussion regarding the effect of flow parameters on velocity and temperature profiles are provided. It is found that, increase of variable thermal conductivity, radiation, Brownian motion and thermophoresis parameter increases the rate of heat transfer. Local Nusselt number has been computed for various parameters and it is observed that, in the presence of variable thermal conductivity and Rosseland approximation, heat transfer characteristics are higher as compared to the constant thermal conductivity and linear thermal radiation.

In the present work, the effect of various dimensionless parameters on the momentum, thermal and concentration boundary layer are analyzed. In this respect we have considered the MHD boundary layer flow of heat and transfer over a porous wedge surface in a nanofluid. The governing partial differential equations are converted into ordinary differential equations by using the similarity transformation. These ordinary differential equations are numerically solved using fourth order Runge–Kutta method along with shooting technique. The present results have been shown in a graphical and also in tabular form. The results indicate that the momentum boundary layer thickness reduces with increasing values of the pressure gradient parameter β for different situations and also for the magnetic parameter M but increases for the velocity ratio parameter λ and permeability parameter K*. The heat transfer rate increases for the pressure gradient parameter β, velocity ratio parameter λ, Brownian motion parameter Nb and Prandtl number Pr but opposite result is found for the increasing values of the thermoporesis parameter Nt. The nanoparticle concentration rate increases with an increase in the pressure gradient parameter β, velocity ratio parameter λ, Brownian motion parameter Nb and Lewis number Le, but decreases for the thermoporesis parameter Nt. Finally, the numerical results has compared with previously published studies and found to be in good agreement. So the validity of our results is ensured.

In the present work, Cu and Ni nanofluids were synthesized using the pulsed wire evaporation (PWE) method in the different aqueous medias, namely (ethanol and ethylene glycol), and the effects of the aqueous media on the dispersion state, stability, and particle size of nanoparticles were studied. The size and morphology of synthesized nano-particles were investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Also, the dispersion stability of the nanofluids was evaluated by turbiscan analysis. The TEM results showed that the nano-particles were spherical in shape, and the average particle size was below 100 nm. The average particle size of the Cu nano-particles was smaller than that of Ni, which was attributed to a difference in the specific sublimation energy of the elements. Moreover, ethylene glycol (EG) exhibited higher suspension stability than ethanol. Finally, the dispersion stability of Cu@EG displayed the highest value due to lower particle size and greater viscosity.

Opis:
In this study, the Soret and Dufour effects in a composite stenosed artery were combined with an analysis of the effect of varying viscosity on copper nanofluids in a porous medium. Blood viscosity, which changes with temperature, is taken into account using the Reynolds viscosity model. The finite difference approach is used to quantitatively solve the governing equations. For use in medical applications, the effects of the physical parameters on velocity, temperature and concentration along the radial axis have been investigated and physically interpreted. The results are graphically displayed and physically defined in order to facilitate comprehension of the various phenomena that occur in the artery when nanofluid is present. It is observed that the Soret effect increases the rate of heat transfer but decreases the rate of mass transfer. The new study enhances knowledge of non-surgical treatment options for stenosis and other abnormalities, hence reducing post-operative complications. Additionally, current research may have biomedical applications such as magnetic resonance angiography (MRA), which provide a picture of an artery and enable identification of any anomalies, and thus may be useful
