Opis:
A 100 km long dense wavelength division multiplexed optical network design with a capacity of 1.28 Tbps is proposed in this paper. The novelty of this work is the use of a dispersion compensating fibre as a Raman amplifier in the S-band for a high-capacity dense wavelength division multiplexing network. The transmission is accomplished auspiciously in the wavelength range from 196 THz to 202. 35THz. The coupling of a Raman amplifier made the realisation of the S-band possible in the network, as the erbium-doped fibre amplifier is competent for amplification in C- and L-bands only. Further, a pump coupler is used for multiple pumping to enlarge the gain spectrum for a high-capacity optical network. The performance analysis of the network is carried out systematically in terms of bit error rate (BER), eye diagram, Q-factor, and optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR). The results demonstrate that the proposed set-up shows adequately low BER, sufficient Q-factor values, wide eye-opening, and commendable OSNR for all receiving channels.

The paper proposes a newrobust fuzzy gain adaptation of the sliding mode (SMC) power control strategy for the wind energy conversion system (WECS), based on a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG), to maximize the power extracted from the wind turbine (WT). The sliding mode controller can deal with any wind speed, ingrained nonlinearities in the system, external disturbances and model uncertainties, yet the chattering phenomenon that characterizes classical SMC can be destructive. This problem is suitably lessened by adopting adaptive fuzzy-SMC. For this proposed approach, the adaptive switching gains are adjusted by a supervisory fuzzy logic system, so the chattering impact is avoided. Moreover, the vector control of the DFIG as well as the presented one have been used to achieve the control of reactive and active power of the WECS to make the wind turbine adaptable to diverse constraints. Several numerical simulations are performed to assess the performance of the proposed control scheme. The results show robustness against parameter variations, excellent response characteristics with a reduced chattering phenomenon as compared with classical SMC.

The paper proposes a new dynamic model based on the LuGre model and an electrical equation to describe the hysteresis phenomenon for a magnetorheological (MR) damper. In addition, a sliding mode observer (SMO) is proposed to estimate unmeasurable states of the MR damper. The parameters of the MR damper are successfully identified by using the self-learning particle swarm optimization (SLPSO) algorithm. The contributions of this paper are: i) a new dynamic model based on the LuGre model and an electrical equation for an MR damper is successfully formulated to fit for the hysteresis behavior, ii) the exerted damping force can be practically adjusted by using input voltage for the dynamic model, iii) the SMO is proposed to estimate the internal states and current, and iv) the unknown parameters of the MR damper are successfully identified by using the SLPSO algorithm with a numerical experiment.

Opis:
Mechanically, composite laminates perform exceptionally well in-plane but poorly out-of-plane. Interlaminar damage, known as "delamination," is a major issue for composite laminates. Results from Mode-I and Mode-II experimental testing on twill-woven carbon fiber reinforced (CFRP) laminates are analyzed in this paper. Composite Mode-I fracture toughness was determined using three different methods in accordance with ASTM D5528: modified beam theory, compliance calibration, and a codified compliance calibration. Two methods, the Compliance Calibration Method and the Compliance-Based Beam Method, were used to determine the Mode-II fracture toughness in accordance with ASTM D7905. Stick-slip behavior is quite evident in the composite's ModeI fracture toughness test findings. The MBT technique's Ic values for initiation and propagation are 0.533 and 0.679 KJ/m2 , respectively. When comparing the MBT approach to the industry-standard ASTM procedure for determining fracture toughness Mode-I, the MBT method was shown to be highly compatible. Furthermore, the IIc values for the CBBM technique are 1.65 KJ/m2 for non-pre cracked and 1.4 KJ/m2 for pre-cracked materials. The CBBM method shows a good method to evaluate fracture toughness Mode-II, due to not needing to monitor the length of the crack during delamination growth to get the value of the fracture toughness.

The empirical mode decomposition (EMD) algorithm is widely used as an adaptive time-frequency analysis method to decompose nonlinear and non-stationary signals into sets of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). In the traditional EMD, the lower and upper envelopes should interpolate the minimum and maximum points of the signal, respectively. In this paper, an improved EMD method is proposed based on the new interpolation points, which are special inflection points (SIPn) of the signal. These points are identified in the signal and its first (n − 1) derivatives and are considered as auxiliary interpolation points in addition to the extrema. Therefore, the upper and lower envelopes should not only pass through the extrema but also these SIPn sets of points. By adding each set of SIPi (i = 1, 2, n) to the interpolation points, the frequency resolution of EMD is improved to a certain extent. The effectiveness of the proposed SIPn-EMD is validated by the decomposition of synthetic and experimental bearing vibration signals.

In this paper, a sliding mode controller, which can be applied for second-order systems, is designed. Robustness to external disturbances, finite regulation time and a good system’s behaviour are required for a sliding mode controller. In order to achieve the first two of these three goals, a non-linear, time-varying switching curve is introduced. The representative point (state vector) belongs to this line from the very beginning of the control process, which results in elimination of the reaching phase. The stable sliding motion along the switching curve is provided. Natural limitations such as control signal and system’s velocity constraints will be taken into account. In order to satisfy them, the sliding line parameters will be properly selected. However, a good dynamical behaviour of the system has to be provided. In order to achieve that, the integral time absolute error (ITAE) quality index will be introduced and minimised. The simulation example will verify theoretical considerations.

Aposiopesis – to figura retoryczna, która jest stosunkowo rzadko przedmiotem zainteresowania badaczy. Artykuł stanowi porównanie dwóch udanych artystycznie oraz interesujących intelektualnie realizacji aposiopesis w poezji języka angielskiego: w poemacie Katastrofa statku „Deutschland” Gerarda Manleya Hopkinsa oraz w wierszu Final Soliloquy of the Interior Paramour Wallace’a Stevensa.Wnawiązaniu do syntezy Heinricha Lausberga charakter aposiopesis w tych dwóch dziełach dookreślono poprzez ukazanie konfliktu pomiędzy treścią pominiętej wypowiedzi a siłą powstrzymującą ujawnienie owej treści. Dostrzeżenie różnicy pomiędzy dwiema realizacjami tej samej figury pozwala wskazać na zmianę, która dokonała się w poezji w zakresie sposobów poruszania kwestii religijnych. Tę zmianę określa przejście w „tryb języka”, które jest cechą poezji Stevensa. Zarazem analiza aposiopesis w jego wierszu pozwala zauważyć subtelne przełamanie tego językowego trybu mówienia o kwestiach religijnych.
Aposiopesis is a rhetorical figure which is relatively rarely a subject of research attention. The subject matter of this article is the comparison of two renditions of aposiopesis in the Englishlanguage poetry: in the poem of Gerard Manley Hopkins “The Wreck of the Deutschland” and in the poem of Wallace Stevens “Final Soliloquy of the Interior Paramour” both of which are artistically successful and intellectually absorbing. According to Heinrich Lausberg’s synthesis, the character of aposiopesis in both poems is specified by showing the conflict between the content of omitted utterance and the force which prevents this content from being revealed. Distinguishing the difference between these two realisations of the same figure makes it possible to indicate a change which has taken place in the area of poetic means of referring to religious problems. This change is defined by a ‘mode of language,’ a feature characteristic of Stevens’s poetry. At the same time the analysis of aposiopesis in his poem unveils a subtle overcoming of this mode of language applied to tackle religious questions.

Condensation particle counters (CPCs) use light scattering to count particles after they have grown to micron size in a supersaturated environment. In single counting mode each particle is counted depending on whether the scattered light exceeds a threshold value or not. In photometric mode the total scattered light is converted in particle number concentration. While for laboratory grade particle number systems, CPCs are allowed to operate only in single counting mode, there is no such requirements for portable emissions measurements systems (PEMS) for real-driving emissions (RDE) testing or for instruments for periodic technical inspection (PTI) of vehicles. In this study two CPCs of the same model were assessed in single counting and photometric modes with silver and graphite particles with sizes ranging from 10 nm to 100 nm. The results showed that the concentration was measured accurately enough for particles in the 25 nm to 50 nm size range, but was underestimated and overestimated for smaller and larger particles, respectively. The key message is that the photometric mode should be avoided or calibrated in function of concentration and particle size.

In this work, we report a new chaotic population biology system with one prey and two predators. Our new chaotic population model is derived by introducing two nonlinear interaction terms between the prey and predator-2 to the Samardzija-Greller population biology system (1988). We show that the new chaotic population biology system has a greater value of Maximal Lyapunov Exponent (MLE) than the Maximal Lyapunov Exponent (MLE) of the Samardzija-Greller population biology system (1988). We carry out a detailed bifurcation analysis of the new chaotic population biology system with one prey and two predators. We also show that the new chaotic population biology model exhibits multistability with coexisting chaotic attractors. Next, we use the integral sliding mode control (ISMC) for the complete synchronization of the new chaotic population biology system with itself, taken as the master and slave chaotic population biology systems. Finally, for practical use of the new chaotic population biology system, we design an electronic circuit design using Multisim (Version 14.0).

Induction motors (IMs) experience power losses when a portion of the input power is converted to heat instead of driving the load. The combined effect of copper losses, core losses, and mechanical losses results in IM power losses. Unfortunately, the core losses in the motor, which have a considerable impact on its energy efficiency, are not taken into account by the generally employed dynamic model in the majority of the studies. Due to this, the motor rating often corresponds to the worst-case load in applications, but the motor frequently operates below rated conditions. A hybridized model reference adaptive system (MRAS) with sliding mode control (SMC) is used in this study for sensorless speed control of an induction motor with core loss, allowing the motor to operate under a variety of load conditions. As a result, the machine can run at maximum efficiency while carrying its rated load. By adjusting the -axis current in the reference frame in vector-controlled drives, the system’s performance is enhanced by running the motor at its optimum flux. Regarding the torque and speed of both induction motors with and without core loss, the Adaptive Observer Sliding Mode Control (AOSMC) has been constructed and simulated in this case. The AOSMC with core loss produced good performance when the proposed controller was tested.

Opis:
The existing diagnostic techniques for detecting inter-turn short circuits (ITSCs) in induction motors face two primary challenges. Firstly, they suffer from reduced sensitivity, often failing to detect ITSCs when only a few turns are short-circuited. Secondly, their reliability are compromised by load fluctuations, leading to false alarms even in the absence of actual faults. To address these issues, a novel intelligent approach to diagnose ITSC fault is proposed. Indeed, this method encompasses three core components: a novel multi-sensor fusion technique, a knowledge map, and enhanced Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). First, the raw data collected from multiple sensors undergoes a transformation into 2D data using a novel image transformation based on Hilbert transform (HT) and variational mode decomposition (VMD), which is concatenate to a novel information map including frequency fault information and rotational speed. Then, this 3D multi information image is used as input to an improvement CNN model that apply a transfer learning for an enhanced version of SqueezNet with incorporating a novel attention mechanism module to precisely identify fault features. Experimental results and performance comparisons demonstrate that the proposed model attains high performance surpassing other Deep Learning (DL) methods in terms of accuracy. In addition, the model has consistently demonstrated its ability to make precise predictions and accurately classify fault severity, even under different working conditions.

Fault diagnosis of rolling bearings is essential to ensure the proper functioning of the entire machinery and equipment. Variational mode decomposition (VMD) and neural networks have gained widespread attention in the field of bearing fault diagnosis due to their powerful feature extraction and feature learning capacity. However, past methods usually utilize experiential knowledge to determine the key parameters in the VMD and neural networks, such as the penalty factor, the smooth factor, and so on, so that generates a poor diagnostic result. To address this problem, an Adaptive Variational Mode Decomposition (AVMD) is proposed to obtain better features to construct the fault feature matrix and Sparrow probabilistic neural network (SPNN) is constructed for rolling bearing fault diagnosis. Firstly, the unknown parameters of VMD are estimated by using the genetic algorithm (GA), then the suitable features such as kurtosis and singular value entropy are extracted by automatically adjusting the parameters of VMD. Furthermore, a probabilistic neural network (PNN) is used for bearing fault diagnosis. Meanwhile, embedding the sparrow search algorithm (SSA) into PNN to obtain the optimal smoothing factor. Finally, the proposed method is tested and evaluated on a public bearing dataset and bearing tests. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can extract suitable features and achieve high diagnostic accuracy.

The main objective of this study is to investigate pad stiffness effects on the instability of a nonlinear brake squeal model. Hence, a nonlinear mathematical model is developed. The nonlinear model is linearized to check the system stability through complex eigenvalue analysis. The results of linear stability analyses are compared to the numerical solution of the nonlinear model, and it is observed that the dynamic behavior predicted by the linear stability analysis is in accordance with the numerical solutions. Though, a discrepancy may occur at the predicted squeal frequencies with both approaches, especially at high pad stiffness levels.

Aim. The study aims to explore the current state of digital game-based learning to reflect the extent, possibilities, opportunities, and limitations of its implementation in the specific field of education as visual art, especially photography. Method. The explorative study employed the method of theoretical analysis of available literature and other secondary sources related to the issue, and subsequently applied the method of an illustrative (descriptive) case study. Results. Photo modes of commercially available digital games, originally intended to increase the players’ retention and participation, have led to the birth of a new art form, virtual photography. The technology of photo modes in a larger variety of recent games has made virtual photography available to significantly more players. Photo modes provide artistic control and creative options alongside a whole catalogue of lenses, camera parameters, and other features, reducing the financial burden associated with the purchase of photographic equipment. Furthermore, photo modes offer more than just a substitutable alternative to traditional photography, as added artistic value is found within virtual worlds. Conclusions. Despite some limitations regarding the overall implementation of digital game-based learning in photography classrooms, photo modes of commercially available digital games are a suitable tool for educational efforts in photography through both self-development and measurement of outcome-based learning.

Opis:
Teleoperation robotic systems control, which enables humans to perform activities in remote situations, has become an extremely challenging field in recent decades. In this paper, a Model Free Proportional‐Derivative Slid‐ ing Mode Controller (MFPDSMC) is devoted to the syn‐ chronization problem of teleoperation systems subject to actuator dynamics, time‐varying delay, model uncer‐ tainty, and input interaction forces. For the first time, the teleoperation model used in this study combines actuator dynamics and manipulator models into a single equation, which improves model accuracy and brings it closer to the actual system than in prior studies. Further, the proposed control approach, called Free, involves the simple mea‐ surement of inputs and outputs to enhance the system’s performance without relying on any knowledge from the mathematical model. In addition, our strategy includes a Sliding Mode term with the MFPD term to increase system stability and attain excellent performance against external disturbances. Finally, using the Lyapunov func‐ tion under specified conditions, asymptotic stability is established, and simulation results are compared and provided to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed strategy.
