Opis:
Currently, climate change is disrupting life on Earth by causing imbalances in the biosphere. This work aimed to evaluate the impact of climate change on the content of primary and secondary metabolites and the yield of essential oil of Rosmarinus officinalis. Thus, the results of the conducted experiment show that the content of primary metabolites decreased with increasing temperature and decreasing precipitation along the experiment(proteins from 7.61% to 7.14%, carbohydrates from 6.92% to 5.64%, fats from 1.48% to 1.29% and dietary fiber from 4.96% to 4.22% and mineral composition: Ca from 7.67% to 5.98%, Mg from 8.61% to 7.01%, Fe from 7.53% to 7.21% and Mn from 6.85% to 3.97%), and the content of secondary metabolites increased in the second year when increasing the temperature by 5 °C and water stress by 50% (coumarin from 6.59% to 10.99%, saponins from 7.15% to 8.46%, tannin from 3.92% to 5.95%, alkaloids from 6.69% to 15.62% and flavonoid from 8.02% to 15.75%),but in the fourth year when the temperature continued to increase and water stress was 75% the content of secondary metabolites decreased (coumarin from 10.99% to 8.27%, saponins from 8.46% to 7.87%, tannin from 5.95% to 4.85%, alkaloids from 15.62% to 10.68% and flavonoid from 15.75% to 11.36%)and the same results were obtained for the yield of essential oil which increased in the second year and decreased in the fourth year. This GC analysis of the three essential oil samples shows that the majority of compounds in the three essential oils studied are cineole (S1:45.98%, S2:55.36%, S3:43.08%) followed by camphor (S1:17.44%, S2:21.44%, S3:21.56%) and Alpha-pinene (S1:9.30%, S2:8.34%, S3: 9.17%) and other compounds in low percentage.

Organic extracts of six urine samples from children treated with nitisinone, a medicine against tyrosinemia type I, were investigated by 1H and 19F NMR spectroscopy. The presence of unchanged 2-[2-nitro-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzoyl]cyclohexane-1,3-dione (NTBC), 6-hydroxy-2-[2-nitro-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzoyl]cyclohexane-1,3-dione (NTBC-OH) and 2-nitro-4-trifluoromethylbenzoic acid (NTFA) as well as a few other unidentified compounds containing CF3 group was documented.

Opis:
Isolation of RNA from plants rich in secondary metabolites using commercial kits often results in contaminated preparations which are not suitable for downstream applications. Although many specific protocols appropriate for plants with a high content of phenolics, anthocyanins and polysaccharides have been developed, these are often expensive, time consuming and not applicable to different types of tissues. This study presents a simple and efficient modification of RNA extraction from different types of tissues using two commercial reagent kits. By simple improvement, we routinely obtained high-quality RNA of the following plants: the blackcurrant bush, black chokeberry bush, pear tree, apricot tree, apple tree, hardy kiwi, tangerine tree, highbush blueberry and cranberry plant.

Aboriginal plants and their information clubbed with their potentiality. Majority of the secondary metabolites are the basic therapeutics. Usually these establishes in higher plants are gratifying all the time more noteworthy in drug scheming. In the current report, 100 different solvent extracts of 20 aboriginal plant species from Hyderabad Karnataka region were screened for their leading constituents of secondary metabolites. Intended for the vetting of secondary metabolites the criterion tests undertaken i.e., cluster wise for alkaloids dragendroff’s, tannin for ferric chloride, phenolics for lead acetate, glycoside for keller-killiani test, flavonoids for NaOH and saponins for foam test. Invasive alien species are non-native plant species that displace native species and pose adverse effects to environment, ecosystem, economy, and human health by diminishing the growth of native plants and by exhibiting higher stress tolerance. In our present study, four invasive alien species, namely Lantana camara, Parthenium hysterophorous, Ricinus communis, and Ageratum conyzoides, were studied from different locations. Plants growing under natural environmental conditions were sampled at random in the vicinity of Jalandhar. To gain insights into the biochemical basis of invasiveness of these plants, the samples were subjected to chemical fingerprinting by using UV-Vis, fluorescent, and Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) techniques under natural abiotic stress conditions (moderate and hot conditions). Indices of oxidative stress, such as malondialdehyde (MDA), were also studied. MDA levels were enhanced under hot conditions. Elevated peaks (major and minor) were observed in UV fingerprinting during adverse abiotic conditions. Fluorescent spectroscopy also validated the enhanced levels of secondary metabolites. FT-IR spectroscopy confirmed the presence of alkaloids and phenolics during stress conditions. Peaks were identified as rutin, vanillic acid, ascorbic acid, and glutathione reduced. The obtained results showed that under stressful conditions, the studied plants may produce an increased level of metabolites that might play a role in minimizing the oxidative stress faced by these plants. It was concluded that the studied plants, namely P. hysterophorus, L. camara, R. communis, and A. conyzoides, have the potential to cope with abiotic stress such as high temperature, which could be the reason for their invasiveness and vast adaptability.

Plant secondary metabolites have a variety of functions, including mediating relationships between organisms, responding to environmental challenges, and protecting plants against infections, pests, and herbivores. In a similar way, through controlling plant metabolism, plant microbiomes take part in many of the aforementioned processes indirectly or directly. Researchers have discovered that plants may affect their microbiome by secreting a variety of metabolites, and that the microbiome could likewise affect the metabolome of the host plant. Pesticides are agrochemicals that are employed to safeguard humans and plants from numerous illnesses in urban green zones, public health initiatives, and agricultural fields. The careless use of chemical pesticides is destroying our ecology. As a result, it is necessary to investigate environmentally benign alternatives to pathogen management, such as plant-based metabolites. According to literature, plant metabolites have been shown to have the ability to battle plant pathogens. Phenolics, flavonoids, and alkaloids are a few of the secondary metabolites of plants that have been covered in this study.

Penicillium spp. are well known to produce a variety of beneficial metabolites for plant growth and survival, as well as defend their hosts from attack of certain pathogens. In this study, effects of culture filtrate of different Penicillium spp. were tested on tomato seeds. On the whole, presoaking of seeds in filtrates of the nine Penicillium isolates tested, significantly increased seed germination when compared with the control seeds. Cultural extracts of P. expensum and P. billi were highly effective in growth promotion up to 90%. It was also observed that P. implicatum and P. oxlalicam significantly enhanced the root growth in tomato seedling as compare to other species. In case of shoot length, P. verrucosum (3.38), P. granulatum (2.81) and P. implicatum (2.62) were effective. However P. implicatum was quite promising to increase shoot and root length in tomato seedlings. Where as P. simplicissimium and P. citrinum were leas effective on seedling growth. The plant growth promoting ability of Penicillium strains may help in growth permotion in other plants and crops. Penicillium spp. are already known for producing mycotoxin and enzymes. Plant growth promoting ability of Penicillium spp will open new aspects of research and investigations. The role of Penicillium spp. in tomato plant growth requires further exploration.

Opis:
The natural environment is being drastically affected by climate change. Under these severe environmental conditions, the growth and productivity of agricultural crops have reduced. Due to unpredictable rainfall, crops growing in the field are often exposed to waterlogging. This leads to significant crop damage and production losses. In this review paper, the morphological and physiological adaptations such as development of aerenchyma, adventitious roots, radial root oxygen loss barrier, and changes in chlorophyll fluorescence parameters of crops under waterlogging are discussed. This will help to understand the effects of waterlogging on various crops and their adaptation that promotes crop growth and productivity. To meet the food requirements of a growing population, the development of waterlogging tolerant crops by screening and plant breeding methods is necessary for plant breeders. Better knowledge of physiological mechanisms in response to waterlogging will facilitate the development of techniques and methods to improve tolerance in crops.

Introduction and aim. Drinking mineral waters are one of the environmental factors that affect the condition of the human body. Of particular interest are therapeutic waters of the Naftussya type, which contain autochthonous microbes and organic oil-like substances and can be considered as a kind of ecosystem. On the other hand, gastrointestinal tract also is an ecosystem that associates a resident microbiota and cells of various phenotypes lining the epithelial wall. We assumed that one of the mechanisms of the therapeutic effect of Naftussya water is the interaction of external and internal ecosystems. This article is the first in a series in support of the hypothesis. Material and methods. The object of clinical-physiological observation were residents of the city of Truskavets’ (21 men aged 24-67 years and 8 women 33-76 years) with chronic pyelonephritis in remission. The objects of study: leukocyturia, bacteriuria, components of microbiota, phagocytosis function of neutrophils, leukocytary adaptation index, plasma and urine electrolytes and nitrogenous metabolites. Results. The weekly use of bioactive Naftussya water from the Opaka deposit causes a favorable normalizing effect on the stool microbiota: it increases the reduced content of Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli, instead it reduces the increased content of pathogenic strains of Escherichia coli, as well as Klebsiela and Proteus. Reduction of dysbacteriosis is accompanied by an increase in the reduced bactericidal capacity of blood neutrophils against E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus, and reduction of bacteriuria and leukocyturia. At the same time, the elevated level of creatinine in the plasma decreases, instead, the decreased levels of sodium and chloride increase. As expected, the daily diuresis and excretion of urea, creatinine, phosphates, calcium, magnesium and chloride increases, but not sodium and uric acid, the concentrations of which in the urine decrease. The described physiologically beneficial effects are interpreted as adaptogenic, which is confirmed by an increase in the reduced leukocyte adaptation index. Conclusion. The healing effect of Naftussya bioactive water is the result of the interaction of external and internal ecosystems. The next article will consider the role of the nervous and endocrine systems in this interaction.

Generally, pesticides are the products containing at least one chemical substance which should protect plant or plant products against pests/diseases. Among them, the most important ones are herbicides, followed by insecticides and fungicides. As a result of intensive agriculture techniques, large amounts of pesticides are applied on agricultural soil. They remain and degrade in soil, but they can enter water bodies and negatively affect water quality and the aquatic ecosystem. The article deals with the level of pesticide load in soil, bottom sediment and surface water in chosen agriculture catchments in the Czech Republic. Results revealed that the main general problem is glyphosate and its metabolite AMPA, although their application has been constrained for several years. Furthermore, the difference in contents of chosen parent pesticide substances and their metabolites in soils and waters were pointed out.

The study was carried out to evaluate the phytochemical constituents, antioxidant activity and the content of total phenolic and flavonoid in the methanolic extract from stem bark, root, and leaves of Rhizophora mucronata from Karangsong, Indramayu Regency, West Java, Indonesia. The antioxidant activity was evaluated using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrilhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. Total phenolic and flavonoid contents were determined according respectively to Folin-Ciocalteau method, and aluminium trichloride method. The methanol extract from stem bark of R. mucronata contained secondary metabolite such as phenolic, flavonoid, tannin and saponin. The stem bark of R. mucronata showed the highest phenolic and flavonoid content and possessed a higher antioxidant activity (IC50 84.80 µg·m/L) than that of root (IC50 166.95 µg·m/L) and leaves (IC50 90.51 µgmL1). Total phenolic and flavonoid content in the stem bark of R. mucronata were 131.91 ±1.7 mg gallic acid equivalents/g and 902 ±0.7 mg quercetin equivalents/g, respectively.

Objectives 1,5-Naphthalene diisocyanate (NDI) is used in the plastic industry as a curing agent. 1,5-Naphthalene diisocyanate is classified as a sensitizing agent. The objective of this study has been to develop biomonitoring methods for the evaluation of exposure to NDI. Material and Methods We obtained blood and urine samples from a group of 20 male workers exposed to NDI. The workers answered a questionnaire about their exposure history, job description, the number of years with the company and the time spent working with NDI over the 10 days of the study. Total plasma, albumin, and urine were analyzed for the presence of 1,5-naphthalenediamine (NDA) after acid hydrolysis using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Results 1,5-Naphthalenediamine was found in about 60% of the samples obtained from the workers. 1,5-Naphthalenediamine was obtained after acid hydrolysis of plasma, albumin, and urine at levels up to 1.5 pmol NDA/mg of plasma proteins, 1.15 pmol NDA/mg of albumin, and 55.3 pmol NDA/ml of urine, respectively. Conclusions 1,5-Naphthalenediamine found in urine correlates best with the plasma levels (r = 0.91, p < 0.01). The albumin-adduct levels did not correlate with the NDI-specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) or total IgE present in the workers. The adduct and metabolite levels correlate with the air levels of NDI.
