Opis:

Let A and B be M-matrices satisfying A ≤ B and J = [A,B] be the set of all matrices C such that A ≤ C ≤ B, where the order is component wise. It is rather well known that if A is an M-matrix and B is an invertible M-matrix and A ≤ B, then aA + bB is an invertible M-matrix for all a,b > 0. In this article, we present an elementary proof of a stronger version of this result and study corresponding results for certain other classes as well.

A matrix generalization of Kronecker's lemma is presented with assumptions that make it possible not only the unboundedness of the condition number considered by Anderson and Moore (1976) but also other sequences of real matrices, not necessarily monotone increasing, symmetric and nonnegative definite. A useful matrix decomposition and a well-known equivalent result about convergent series are used in this generalization.

Introduction. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a group of inflammatory conditions of the colon and small intestine. Aim. The aim of this work was to review the current literature regarding matrix metalloproteinases. The databases such as PubMed, ScienceDirect and Springer were utilized to search the literature for relevant articles. Materials and methods. An analysis of literature. We collected information, data, and examples of the function of metalloproteinases. Results. Herein we show that metalloproteinases play a role in such processes as the immune response, angiogenesis, the epithelial barrier function, fibrosis induced by the inflammatory process, and in the process of carcinogenesis. Conclusions. Further studies on the role of metalloproteinases in the process of carcinogenesis associated with inflammatory bowel diseases are required.

The research included in the paper concerns a class of symmetric block Jacobi matrices. The problem of the approximation of eigenvalues for a class of a self-adjoint unbounded operators is considered. We estimate the joint error of approximation for the eigenvalues, numbered from 1 to N, for a Jacobi matrix J by the eigenvalues of the finite submatrix J(n) of order pn x pn, where N = max{k ∈ N : k ≤ rpn} and r ∈ (0, 1) is suitably chosen. We apply this result to obtain the asymptotics of the eigenvalues of J in the case p = 3.

Introduction. The prevalence of endometriosis among reproductive age women is 7–17%; however, these figures reach 20–50% in patients suffering from infertility. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) activity is thought to be particularly essential in the early phases of endometriosis development. Any changes in the equilibrium between MMPs activity and their tissue inhibitors (TIMPs) could be potentially harmful, promoting endometriosis development. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-1 or TGF-B2 expression in eutopic endometrium from women with early endometriosis differ when compared with healthy subjects. The results were referred to the serum progesterone levels. Materials and method. Endometrial biopsy was taken from 42 patients (18 in the study group, 22 in thecontrol group) at the time of hysteroscopy for routine histology and for RT-PCR procedures. Comparison of the quantity of gene products was performed with a programme for densitometry and compared to GADPH product, which was a reference value. Results. The obtained results did not reveal any statistical difference in endometrial expression of MMP-2, MMp-9, TIMP-1, and TGF-β2 or serum progesterone level between women with endometriosis and without visible signs of this illness. Conclusion. Despite the lack of statistical differences, it was observed that both examined metalloproteinases expressed a tendency to higher gene expression in the eutopic endometrium of women with endometriosis. However, both TIMP-1 and TGF-β2 expressions had the same tendency – higher values in endometriosis patients.

Opis:

An analytical approach is proposed for studying the elastic-plastic behavior of short fiber reinforced metal matrix composites under tensile loading. In the proposed research, a micro- mechanical approach is employed considering an axi-symmetric unit cell including one fiber and the surrounding matrix. First, the governing equations and the boundary conditions are derived and the elastic solution is obtained based on some shear lag type methods. Since under normal loading conditions and according to the fiber material characteristics the me- tal matrix undergoes plastic deformation, while the fiber remains within the elastic region, a plastic deformation is obtained for the matrix under each small tensile loading step. Then, the elastic-plastic stress transfer behavior of the composite is studied considering this plastic deformation. The results are finally compared with the numerical results obtained from the FE analysis of the considered micromechanical model.

Boolean matrices, the incidence matrices of a graph, are known not to be the (universal) matrices of a Boolean algebra. Here, we also show that their usual composition cannot make them the matrices of any algebra. Yet, later on, we "show" that it can. This seeming paradox comes from the hidden intrusion of a widespread set-theoretical (mis) definition and notation and denies its harmlessness. A minor modification of this standard definition might fix it.

Stępniak [Linear Algebra Appl. 151 (1991)] considered the problem of equivalence of the Löwner partial order of nonnegative definite matrices and the Löwner partial order of squares of those matrices. The paper was an important starting point for investigations of the problem of how an order between two matrices A and B from different sets of matrices can be preserved for the squares of the corresponding matrices A² and B², in the sense of the Löwner partial ordering, the star partial ordering, the minus partial ordering, and the sharp partial ordering. Many papers have since been published (mostly coauthored by J.K. Baksalary - to whom the present paper is dedicated) that generalize the results in two directions: by widening the class of matrices considered and by replacing the squares by arbitrary powers. In the present paper we make a résumé of some of these results and suggest some further generalizations for polynomials of the matrices considered.

Opis:

An iterative inversion algorithm for a class of square matrices is derived and tested. The inverted matrix can be defined over both real and complex fields. This algorithm is based only on the operations of addition and multiplication. The numerics of the algorithm can cope with a short number representation and therefore can be very useful in the case of processors with limited possibilities, like different neuro-computers and accelerator cards. The quality of inversion can be traced and tested. The algorithm can be used in the case of singular matrices, and then it automatically produces a result that contains the inverse of this part of the processed matrix which can be inverted. An example of the inversion of a six-order square matrix is presented and discussed.

We compute the expected normalized trace norm (matrix/graph energy) of random symmetric band circulant matrices and graphs in the limit of large sizes, and obtain explicit bounds on the rate of convergence to the limit, and on the probabilities of large deviations. We also show that random symmetric band Toeplitz matrices have the same limit norm assuming that their band widths remain small relative to their sizes. We compare the limit norms across a range of related random matrix and graph ensembles.

This article describes a set of algorithms for so-called balancing of numerical matrices, which were developed by the author. Each section consists of several algorithms that are divided into different levels. The order of these levels depended on the chronology of the creation of certain algorithms. Chronology also affected the complexity of these balancing algorithms, so it can be argued that the algorithms are described in order from the simplest level to the most complex. It is important to emphasize that the purpose of the article is to describe the actions on matrices that determine the balancing algorithm of a certain level, and practical application will be the next step.
Artykuł przedstawia autorskie algorytmy bilansowania macierzy. Każdy rozdział składa się z kilku algorytmów, które są rozdzielone na różne poziomy. Te poziomy są uporządkowane w zależności od chronologii ich stworzenia. Podobnie chronologia ma wpływ na złożoność algorytmów zbilansowania, w związku z tym można stwierdzać, że algorytmy są uszeregowana według stopnia złożoności. Niniejszy artykuł jest pierwszym etapem pokazującym sposób zbilansowania pewnego poziomu macierzy, natomiast kolejnym etapem będzie efekt praktyczny.

Artykuł przedstawia autorskie algorytmy bilansowania macierzy. Każdy rozdział składa się z kilku algorytmów, które są rozdzielone na różne poziomy. Te poziomy są uporządkowane w zależności od chronologii ich stworzenia. Podobnie chronologia ma wpływ na złożoność algorytmów zbilansowania, w związku z tym można stwierdzać, że algorytmy są uszeregowana według stopnia złożoności. Niniejszy artykuł jest pierwszym etapem pokazującym sposób zbilansowania pewnego poziomu macierzy, natomiast kolejnym etapem będzie efekt praktyczny.

The paper characterizes and gives some basic properties of matrix H that is the operator of orthogonal projection on the space of columns of matrix X, which is the hat matrix in linear regression model. The author enumerates some properties of diagonal elements of the matrix, which were defined as lever points and high-lever points. The paper deals also with the form of matrix H with repeating observations relating to independent variables. Two examples show some applications of matrix H.
W artykule określono i podano podstawowe własności macierzy H, będącej operatorem ortogonalnego rzutu na przestrzeń kolumn macierzy X, która jest macierzą układu w modelu regresji liniowej. Wymienione zostały własności elementów diagonalnych tej macierzy, które zostały określone jako punkty dźwigniowe i wysoko dźwigniowe punkty. Także zajęto się postacią macierzy H przy powtarzających się obserwacjach odnoszących się do zmiennych niezależnych. Pewne zastosowania macierzy H podano na dwóch przykładach.

ograniczeń koncepcji macierzowych struktur organizacyjnych. Po krótkim wprowadzeniu do dziedziny zidentyfikowano w nim i omówiono osiem kluczowych cech organizacji macierzowych. Przeprowadzona analiza publikacji wykazała, że trzy ze wspomnianych cech są przeważnie postrzegane jako zalety organizacji macierzowych, jedna jako ich ograniczenie, zaś pozostałe cztery budzą kontrowersje wśród teoretyków co do ich pozytywnego bądź negatywnego charakteru. The article is a review of the literature on the key advantages and disadvantages of matrix organizational structures. After providing a brief introduction into the discipline, it identifies and discusses eight major characteristics of matrix organizations. In the reviewed publications, three characteristics are considered primarily as advantages of matrix structures, one as a disadvantage, whereas the four remaining arouse controversies as to their beneficial or negative nature. The controversial characteristics are indicated as a field for further investigation.

Opis:

An accurate numerical method is established for matrix inversion. It is shown theoretically that the scheme possesses the high order of convergence of seven. Subsequently, the method is taken into account for solving linear systems of equations. The accuracy of the contributed iterative method is clarified on solving numerical examples when the coefficient matrices are ill-conditioned. All of the computations are performed on a PC using several programs written in MATHEMATICA 7.

Opis:

In this paper we consider a pentadiagonal matrix which consists of only three non-zero bands. We prove that the determinant of such a matrix can be represented by a product of two determinants of corresponding tridiagonal matrices. It is shown that such an approach gives greatly shorter time of computer calculations.

Opis:

The paper presents the procedure for solving a transportation task. The optimization was carried out in two phases. In the first one, a preliminary flow matrix was achieved on a base of the information on the demands and supplies values as well as transport costs, whereas some shifts within the preliminary flow matrix were made. All changes resulted in an optimum matrix, for which Zx function held the lowest possible value. Presented method appeared to be efficient for solving the transportation tasks of particular type.
Celem pracy było przedstawienie postępowania właściwego dla rozwiązywania zadania transportowego. Działania optymalizacyjne przeprowadzono w dwóch etapach. W pierwszym z nich uzyskano wstępną macierz przepływów, na podstawie informacji o wielkości popytów odbiorców i podaży dostawców oraz wartości kosztów przewozów. W drugim etapie dokonano przesunięć we wstępnej macierzy przepływów, uzyskanej w etapie pierwszym. Zmiany te doprowadziły do uzyskania macierzy optymalnej, dla której funkcja Zx przyjęła najniższą wartość. Przedstawiona metoda okazała się być skuteczna przy rozwiązywaniu zadań transportowych określonego typu.

The paper focuses on matrix-valued polynomials satisfying a three-term recurrence relation with constant matrix coefficients. We investigate the problem of approximation of eigenvalues of some self-adjoint operator in the Hilbert space l2(N) by eigenvalues of suitably chosen principal finite submatrices of an infinite Jacobi matrix that defines the operator considered. We assume the Jacobi operator is bounded from below with compact resolvent. In our research we estimate the asymptotics (with n → ∞) of the joint error of approximation for the first n eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the operator by the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the finite submatrix of order n x n. The method applied in our research is based on the Rayleigh-Ritz method and Volkmer's results included in [7]. We extend the method to cover a class of infinite symmetric Jacobi matrices with three diagonals satisfying some polynomial growth estimates.

Extracellular matrix metalloproteinases - MMPs, also referred to as matrixines, provide a group of proteolytic enzymes. They belong to the family of endopeptidases that break down elements of extracellular matrix, resulting in its continuous remodelling. Their activity is regulated at multiple levels, while tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases play a major role in this process. Metalloproteinases play a significant part in neoplastic processes due to their contribution to local tumour invasion and formation of distant metastases, as well as to angiogenesis Urinary tract tumours pose a significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenge and their incidence tends to grow every year. The aim of this part of review is to describe extracellular matrix and matrix metalloproteinases and to highlight the contribution of matrix metalloproteinases in the development of renal clear cell carcinoma.

Opis:

Austenitization is the first step of heat treatment preceding the isothermal quenching of ductile iron in austempered ductile iron (ADI) manufacturing. Usually, the starting material for the ADI production is ductile iron with more convenient pearlitic matrix. In this paper we present the results of research concerning the austenitizing of ductile iron with ferritic matrix, where all carbon dissolved in austenite must come from graphite nodules. The scope of research included carrying out the process of austenitization at 900_oC using a variable times ranging from 5 to 240 minutes,and then observations of the microstructure of the samples after different austenitizing times. These were supplemented with micro-hardness testing. The research showed that the process of saturating austenite with carbon is limited by the rate of dissolution of carbon from nodular graphite precipitates.

We apply Bayesian inference to estimate transformation matrix that converts vector of industry outputs from NACE Rev. 1.1 to NACE Rev. 2 classification. In formal terms, the studied issue is a representative of the class of matrix balancing (updating, disaggregation) problems, often arising in the field of multi- sector economic modelling. These problems are characterised by availability of only partial, limited data and a strong role for prior assumptions, and are typically solved using bi-proportional balancing or cross-entropy minimisation methods. Building on Bayesian highest posterior density formulation for a similarly structured case, we extend the model with specification of prior information based on Dirichlet distribution, as well as employ MCMC sampling. The model features a specific likelihood, representing accounting restrictions in the form of an underdetermined system of equations. The primary contribution, compared to the alternative, widespread approaches, is in providing a clear account of uncertainty.

Opis:

Stigmasterol has been shown exihbit anti-osteoarthritic properties in vitro studies. However, the in vivo effects of stigmasterol on cartilage are still unclear. This study investigated the anti-osteoarthritic properties of stigmasterol on cartilage degradation in a rabbit model of osteoarthritis (OA). Twenty rabbits underwent bilateral anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT) to induce OA. Five rabbits were used as normal control. Two weeks after operation, the rabbits were randomly divided into two groups. Each group of 10 rabbits received intra-articular injection with 0.3 ml of stigmasterol in left knees and vehicle in right knees, once weekly. Group 1 was killed 6 weeks after ACLT and 2 were sacrificed 9 weeks after ACLT. The knee joints were assessed by gross morphology, histology and gene expression analysis. We found that expression of genes encoding matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) was significantly higher while tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase (TIMP)-1 was significantly lower in the both joints of the two OA groups compared to normal contrals. Stigmasterol reduced the cartilage degradation as assessed by histological analysis and markedly suppressed MMPs expression both in group 1 and group 2. Our results suggest that stigmasterol may be considered as a possible therapeutical agent in the treatment of OA.

This article considers a new method of decomposing the ship route into global and local planning using MATLAB and Simulink developed by the authors. The authors propose to create a program code in MATLAB and operate it into Simulink. Wherein, the corrective coefficients were written in MATLAB. Such trajectories are constructed as a set of points, collected into the special matrix. In determining of the angle value of the rudder was used the ship’s turning ability such as: high (HG), middle (MD) or low (LW) with regard to passage area. Moreover, in the article were analyzed and calculated the ship rudder effectiveness for Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) control. The paper is devoted to the problem of safety navigation. First of all is the task of planning the path: the trajectory of the vessel’s movement in the local water area. The purpose of planning the vessel trajectory in the local water area is to ensure navigation safety due to marine traffic and environmental conditions. One of the tasks of the present work is controlling following a desired trajectory. The article notes affect of the vessel motion deviation into control process.

Opis:

The concept of energy in graphs and matrices is used effectively in all application areas. The energy of the matrix is an extension of graph energy. The usage of the energy idea in neutrosophic matrices makes it more flexible and applicable in multi-criteria decision-making environments. In this paper, we propose the energy approach in neutrosophic matrices with interval values. We determined the given energy’s upper and lower bounds. The energy is used of the interval-valued neutrosophic matrix to address the MCDM problem. A new strategy has been introduced called the interval-valued neutrosophic energy method to solve this problem. We look at the problem of choosing a qualified manager for a business project. A team of professionals in the company evaluates the options using neutrosophic numbers with interval values, and the energy method is then used to calculate the result. Research background: International market selection is an essential issue for big companies that supply food products. Different types of decision factors and different characteristics of different international markets have brought up a complicated decision-making problem for food supply companies. In order to select the most suitable and profitable market, food supply companies have to consider several qualitative and quantitative factors, including social, political, economic, and ecological aspects. Purpose of the article: In order to overcome international market selection issues, the current study develops a novel integrated decision-making tool. Methods: A novel decision-making model of market analysis is developed as an extended model of Market Attractiveness and Business Attractiveness (MABA) analysis based on the Multiple Attribute Decision Making (MADM). To improve the MABA analysis model, we combine the EDAS method with MABA analysis to empower decision-makers in food supply companies to evaluate several international markets and select the most profitable market for their products. Findings & value added: In this study, we first identified the most important and frequently used decision factors for market analysis problems within MABA analysis under two categories: market attractiveness and business attractiveness. To show the proposed methodology's applicability and feasibility, we perform a case study for a food supply company in Iran that supplies products to Middle East and Asian countries. In order to investigate the reliability of the obtained results, we perform a sensitivity analysis concerning the importance of involved decision factors. The proposed decision-making tool results suggest that the model can be used as a reliable tool for market analysis problems. To sum up the long-term value of the study, we have developed a novel decision-making tool using MABA analysis and the EDAS method. No study integrates any MCDM methods with MABA analysis to the best of our knowledge. Integration of EDAS method with MABA analysis empowers decision-makers in market selection division to use more systematic methods for evaluating several markets.

It is well known that the properties of a metal matrix composites depend upon the properties of the reinforcement phase, of the matrix and of the interface. A strong interface bonding without any degradation of the reinforcing phase is one of the prime objectives in the development of the metal matrix composites. Therefore, the objective of this work is to characterize the interface structure of WE43/SiC particles composite. Magnesium alloys containing yttrium and neodymium are known to have high specific strength, good creep and corrosion resistance up to 250°C. The addition of SiC ceramic particles strengthens the metal matrix composite resulting in better wear and creep resistance while maintaining good machinability. In the present study, WE43 magnesium matrix composite reinforced with SiC particulates was fabricated by stir casting. The SiC particles with 15 μm, 45 μm and 250 μm diameter were added to the WE43 alloy. The microstructure of the composite was investigated by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, scanning transmission electron microscopy and XRD analysis. YSi and Y2Si reaction products are observed at the interfaces between SiC particles and WE43 matrix in the composite stirred at 780°C. Microstructure characterization of WE43 MMC with the 45 μm, stirred at 720°C showed relative uniform reinforcement distribution. Moreover, the Zr-rich particles at particle/matrix interface were visible instead of Y-Si phases. In the case of composite with 15 μm particles the numerous agglomerates and reaction products between SiC particles and alloying elements were observed. The presence of SiC particles assisted in improving hardness and decreasing the tensile strength and plastic properties.

Schrodinger operators with nonlocal δ-interaction are studied with the use of the Lax-Phillips scattering theory methods. The condition of applicability of the Lax-Phillips approach in terms of non-cyclic functions is established. Two formulas for the S-matrix are obtained. The first one deals with the Krein-Naimark resolvent formula and the Weyl-Titchmarsh function, whereas the second one is based on modified reflection and transmission coefficients. The S-matrix S(z) is analytical in the lower half-plane $\mathbb{C}$_ when the Schrodinger operator with nonlocal δ-interaction is positive self-adjoint. Otherwise, S(z) is a meromorphic matrix-valued function in $\mathbb{C}$_ and its properties are closely related to the properties of the corresponding Schrodinger operator. Examples of S-matrices are given.

Abdominal aortic aneurysms and abdominal hernias become an important health problems of our times. Abdominal aortic aneurysm and its rupture is one of the most dangerous fact in vascular surgery. There are some theories pointing to a multifactoral genesis of these kinds of diseases, all of them assume the attenuation of abdominal fascia and abdominal aortic wall. The density and continuity of these structures depend on collagen and elastic fibers structure. Reducing the strengthof the fibersmaybedue to changes in the extracellular matrix (ECM) by the proteolytic enzymes-matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) that degrade extracellular matrix proteins. These enzymes play an important role in the development of many disease: malignant tumors (colon, breast, lung, pancreas), cardiovascular disease (myocardial infarction, ischemia-reperfusion injury), connective tissue diseases (Ehler-Danlos Syndrome, Marfan’s Syndrome), complications of diabetes (retinopathy, nephropathy). One of the most important is matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2). The aim of the study was an estimation of the MMP-2 blood levels in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm and primary abdominal hernia, and in patients with only abdominal aortic aneurysm. Material and methods. The study involved 88 patients aged 42 to 89 years, including 75 men and 13 women. Patients were divided into two groups: patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm and primary abdominal hernia (45 persons, representing 51.1% of all group) and patients with only abdominal aortic aneurysm (43 persons, representing 48,9% of all group). Results. It was a statistically significant increase in MMP-2 blood levels in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm and primary abdominal hernia compared to patients with only abdominal aortic aneurysm. It was a statistically significant increase in the prevalence of POCHP in patients with only abdominal aortic aneurysm compared to patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm and primary abdominal hernia. Conclusions. Statistically significant higher MMP-2 blood levels in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm and primary abdominal hernia seems shows that this enzyme plays a role in the pathogenesis of primary abdominal hernias. The observed distribution of MMP-2 blood levels in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm and primary abdominal hernia may raise the conclusion that this enzyme determines the presence of multi-organ failure of the connective tissue - the patients with only abdominal aortic aneurysm had significantly lower MMP-2 blood levels.

This paper presents a simple procedure that can be used to determine the stiffness matrix of 6R serial manipulator in selected points of the work space with joint stiffness coefficients taking into account. Elastokinematical model for the robot manipulator FANUC S-420F was considered as spatial and serial kinematical chain composed of six rigid links, connected by ideal revolute joint (without clearances and deformable elements), with torsion elasticity of the joint drive system (relative torsion deformations are proportional to acted torques) taking into account. Assumed model is used for displacement analysis of the end-effector for a given applied force in quasi-static condition. The analysis results are presented as Cartesian stiffness matrix of studied manipulator.

We analyze the evolution of an infectious disease by combining different groups of a population when the route of transmission is via encounters with free-living virulent organisms that can survive for a long time outside the individual. This study involves matrix analysis of lower triangular block matrices and some of their spectral properties. We propose an N-periodic control strategy in order to stabilize the disease around the disease-free equilibrium point.

The energy of a molecular graph G is defined as the summation of the absolute values of the eigenvalues of adjacency matrix of a graph G. In this paper, an infinite class of fullerene graphs with 10n vertices, n ≥ 2, is considered. By proving centrosymmetricity of the adjacency matrix of these fullerene graphs, a lower bound for its energy is given. Our method is general and can be extended to other class of fullerene graphs.

The determination of the number of the simultaneously observed objects is an important problem of the MUSIC algorithm. As the result of the covariance matrix eigendecomposition the eingevector and unitary matrix are obtained. The unitary matrix defines the transformation of the measurement vector. Consequently the obtained vector is orthogonal to the noise subspace. The solution of the eigendecomposition problem can be avoided assuming a-priori knowledge of the unitary matrix. Practically, the passive sonar detects the first appeared noisy object. This enable to beforehand define the set of the unitary matrixes exactly matched to the previously determined directions of the signal arrival. The article presents the form of the matrix and features of the measurement vector transformation. The results of the DOA algorithm computer simulation for passive sonar composed of four hydrophones developed in the OBR CTM S.A. are also presented.

Opis:

Results of dielectric spectroscopy of quartzite slate are presented. New type of a porous matrix based on quartzite schist was described. The matrix was filled by a ferroelectric TGS-crystal. The phase transition of the TGS bulk was shown to occur and compared with the phase transition of the component quartzite schist filled with TGS (QSM-TGS). The resonance phenomena in the QSM were shown and described from the point of view filled material.

Opis:

This paper is devoted to measuring the continuous diagnosis capability of a system. A key metric and its calculation models are proposed enabling us to measure the continuous diagnosis capability of a system directly without establishing and searching the sequential fault tree (SFT) of the system. At first a description of a D matrix is given and its metric is defined to determine the weakness of a continuous diagnosis. Then based on the definition of a sequential fault combination, a sequential fault tree (SFT) is defined with its establishment process summarized. A key SFT metric is established to measure the continuous diagnosis capability of a system. Two basic types of dependency graphical models (DGMs) and one combination type of DGM are selected for characteristics analysis and establishment of metric calculation models. Finally, both the SFT searching method and direct calculation method are applied to two designs of one type of an auxiliary navigation equipment, which shows the high efficiency of the direct calculation method.

This paper describes way how to use graph theory in security analysis. As an environment is used network of power lines and devices which are included here. Power grid is considered as a system of nodes which make together graph (network). On the simple example is applied Fiedler´s theory which is able to select the most important power lines of whole network. Components related to these lines are logicly ordered and considered by author´s modified analysis. This method has been improved and optimalized for risks related with illegal acts. Each power grid component has been connected with possible kind of attack and every of this device was gradually evaluated by five coefficients which takes values from 1 to 10. On the coefficient basis was assessed the level of risk. In the last phase the most risky power grid components have been selected. On the selected devices have been proposed security measures.

In this paper we propose a model of electric current flow through one-dimensional palladium-carbon nanostructure (nanowire) and compare the results of numerical computations with the experimental data. We focus on two aspects: 1) calculation of the current flow through the nanowire model, 2) determination of the macroscopic parameters in the nanocomposite in our model. Because of a complex micro-geometry of a nanowire, we apply the homogenization method to perform the numerical computations.

Opis:

In this paper, a new technique for constructing low density parity check codes based on the Hankel matrix and circulant permutation matrices is proposed. The new codes are exempt of any cycle of length 4. To ensure that parity check bits can be recursively calculated with linear computational complexity, a dual-diagonal structure is applied to the parity check matrices of those codes. The proposed codes provide a very low encoding complexity and reduce the stored memory of the matrix H in which this matrix can be easily implemented comparing to others codes used in channel coding. The new LDPC codes are compared, by simulation, with uncoded bi-phase shift keying (BPSK). The result shows that the proposed codes perform very well over additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels.

Recently we have shown that in vitro binding of the proximal part of the human tyrosine hydroxylase gene to the nuclear matrix is correlated with its transcriptional activity. The strongest binding potential was predicted by computing for the first intron sequence (Lenartowski & Goc, 2002, Neurosci Lett.; 330 : 151-154). In this study a 16 kb fragment of the bovine genomic DNA containing the tyrosine hydroxylase gene was investigated for its affinity to the nuclear matrix. Only a 950 bp fragment encoding the distal part of the first intron, second exon and a few nucleotides of the second intron bound to the nuclear matrix. The binding was independent of the tissue-specific tyrosine hydroxylase gene activation. The fragment was subcloned and sequenced. Computer search pointed to one potential intronic matrix attachment region with two AP1-like sites embedded in the sequence. We conclude that even if the position of the matrix binding region is conserved among the tyrosine hydroxylase genes in mammals, its tissue specificity and/or function is not preserved or is achieved by different mechanisms.

Przeanalizowano komercyjne membrany, które umożliwiły zatężenie helu w strumieniu metanu. Przebadano również własne moduły, w których warstwa separacyjna składała się z polimerów: Matrimid i Pebax oraz membrany typu Mixed Matrix, w których warstwa separacyjna składała się z polimeru Pebax oraz z nanocząstek krzemionki. Uzyskane wyniki były gorsze od wyników na modułach komercyjnych. Przebadano również moduł o strukturze szklistej firmy Polymemtech, który wzbogacał gaz w hel w większym stopniu niż komercyjne moduły.
In this study, the commercial membranes were analyzed which allowed the concentration of helium in methane stream. Our own modules were examined, too. Membranes composed of separation layers made of polymers: Pebax and Matrimid and also Mixed Matrix membranes with a separation layer (composed of a polymer Pebax and silica nanoparticles) were tested. The results were worse than those obtained for commercial modules. In the last step a module produced by the Polish company - Polymemtech was tested. Good results of helium enrichment were obtained in the module with glassy membranes.

In this work, we construct the sequence spaces $f(Q(r,s,t,u))$, $f_0(Q(r,s,t,u))$ and $f_s(Q(r,s,t,u))$, where $Q(r,s,t,u)$ is quadruple band matrix which generalizes the matrices $Δ^{3}$, $B(r,s,t)$, $Δ^{2}$, $B(r,s)$ and $Δ$, where $Δ^{3}$, $B(r,s,t)$, $Δ^{2}$, $B(r,s)$ and $Δ$ are called third order difference, triple band, second order difference, double band and difference matrix, respectively. Also, we prove that these spaces are BK-spaces and are linearly isomorphic to the sequence spaces $f$, $f_0$ and $f_s$, respectively. Moreover, we give the Schauder basis and $β$-, $γ$-duals of those spaces. Lastly, we characterize some matrix classes related to those spaces.

In the article “Graphic art as a cognitive tool. Two voices upon the matrix”, Sebastian Dudzik from the perspective of an art historian, and Marek Glinkowski as an artist, analyse a range of issues constituent for the field of graphic art. Presenting the potential of research rarely used in the discipline of graphic art, they consider its crucial strategies, attitudes and categories. The matrix takes the most important position, the process of creating the matrix, the use of creative strategies and analysis of printed images as a record of cognitive processes. The graphic artist as a researcher and observer, his basic tools and their possibilities are presented here in a wide historical, contemporary, media and scientific context. The graphic matrix and multiplication as analytic tools are considered on the basis of the artistic experience of Marek Glinkowski. Matrix and multiplication are treated as cognitive tools used in the field of media and in social and cultural contexts. These considerations serve as contributions to further discussion, which become more and more audible beyond the narrow group of professionals, this recognition owing also to the propagation of art based research attitudes.

The objective of this paper is to apply the concept of fuzzy matrices to interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy matrices. In this paper, we introduce the Hamacher operations of interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy matrices and prove some desirable properties of these operations, such as commutativity, idempotency and monotonicity. Further, we prove De Morgan's laws over complement for these operations. Then we constructe the scalar multiplication (n._h A) and exponentiation (A^(∧_h n)) operations of interval-valued fuzzy intuitionistic matrices and investigates the algebraic properties.

Opis:

We consider a four-level system with two subsystems coupled by weak interaction. The system is in thermal equilibrium. The thermodynamics of the system, namely internal energy, free energy, entropy and heat capacity, are evaluated using the canonical density matrix by two methods. First by Kronecker product method and later by treating the subsystems separately and then adding the evaluated thermodynamic properties of each subsystem. It is discovered that both methods yield the same result, the results obey the laws of thermodynamics and are the same as earlier obtained results. The results also show that each level of the subsystems introduces a new degree of freedom and increases the entropy of the entire system. We also found that the four-level system predicts a linear relationship between heat capacity and temperature at very low temperatures just as in metals. Our numerical results show the same trend.

The analysis of the acoustical systems can be carried out based on a number of different formalisms, of which applied frequently are the transfer matrix formalism, in which the chosen state variables are the sound pressure p and the sound velocity v, and the scattering matrix formalism adopting the sound pressures p⁺ and p⁻ and the sound velocities v⁺ and v⁻ of waves propagating through an element in both directions. Even though, they are mathematically equivalent, i.e. there exists the unequivocal transformation from one to another there are some advantages and disadvantages in applying one or the other to analyse mufflers or other acoustic system, especially when the propagation of a multimode wave is assumed and numerical calculations are indispensable. In the paper the transformation between the formalisms has been derived and applied to analyse the phenomena at a junction between the tail pipe and the chamber and also in mufflers composed of one or two chambers. The more flexible for numerical calculations seems the scattering matrix formalism, especially when the number of propagating modes differs on both sides of a junction. On the other hand the transmission matrix formalism is suitable for analysing systems constituting a cascade. The sources of the advantages and disadvantages of both formalisms are explained. The results obtained can be helpful in the effective design of silencers with specific properties.

This paper deals with a three-phase power system with hybrid transformer (HT) installed between two AC sources. The main aim of this paper is analyze the basic properties of HT with active load and ability to bidirectional energy flow. The HT contains two main units – a conventional transformer with electromagnetic coupling and PWM AC line chopper connected with secondary windings with electric coupling. The HT is located between the distribution system and a Local Balancing Area (LBA) with low power local energy sources. After describing the HT circuit and three-phase, twosources power system, the mathematical and circuit models of the AC source with HT are presented. These models are verified by means of the simulation and experimental test results obtained for a three-phase HT of about 3 kVA rated power.

In this paper, the development of a numerical method to compute the multimodal scattering matrix of a lined duct in the presence of flow is presented. This method is based on the use of the convected Helmholtz equation and the addition of modal pressures at duct boundaries as additional degrees of freedom of the system. The boundary effects at the inlet and outlet of the finite waveguide are neglected. The choice of this matrix is justified by the fact that it represents an intrinsic characterization of a duct system. The validation of the proposed finite element is done by a comparison with the analytical formulation for simple cases of ducts. Then, the numerical coefficients of the scattering matrix of a lined duct and its acoustic power attenuation are computed for several flow velocities to evaluate the flow effect.
W pracy zaprezentowano numeryczną metodę wyznaczania macierzy rozpraszania dla wyściełanego przewodu z uwzględnieniem wewnętrznego przepływu czynnika. Metodę oparto na zastosowaniu równania konwekcji Helmholtza z wprowadzeniem ciśnień modalnych na brzegach jako dodatkowych stopni swobody układu. Efekty brzegowe na wlocie i wylocie przewodu falowego o skończonej długości pominięto. Wybór macierzy rozpraszania uzasadniono faktem, że reprezentuje ona wewnętrzną charakterystykę analizowanego modelu. Zaproponowany element skończony zweryfikowano poprzez porównanie z istniejącymi rozwiązaniami analitycznymi dla prostych przypadków konfiguracji przewodu. Następnie numerycznie obliczono wartości elementów macierzy rozpraszania oraz współczynniki tłumienia akustycznego dla kilku prędkości przepływu w celu określenia, jak dalece wpływa on na badany układ.

In the investigations, described in the paper, the analysis of conditions for recycling materials used in car vehicles is presented. This problem is related with the requirement of UE regarding recovery of product, material or energy -(the Instruction EU No. 2000/53/WE, 18.09.2000). This research is aimed on the investigation of the recycling treatment on properties of commercial aluminum matrix composite reinforced with SiC particles, as a candidate for prototype production of modern brake discs and rotors for automotive applications. Repeated remelting of F3S.10S composite (A359 aluminum alloy reinforced with 10% by vol. of SiC particulates) has been performed. Multiple remelting of composite followed by its gravity casting to the cast iron die does not cause any important changes in composite microstructure noticeable under optical microscopy magnifications. The results of investigation of physical and mechanical properties show that recycling treatment, characterized by the number of remelts followed by the same casting procedure, causes the noticeable change of all properties of composite material. The results demonstrate a continuous decrease in utility properties of composite material with increase of the number of remelting operations, showing tolerable reduced strength characteristics after 9th remelting. Nevertheless, in the face of occasional increase in a given property from one remelt to another, these preliminary investigations suggest the possibility to improve recycling process by proper selection of liquid metal treatment and subsequent casting procedure.

Opis:

A new method for synthesis of cermet composite materials was developed based on aluminothermy. Employing this method a cermet composite material with a high content of AlN crystal phase was synthesized. Fine powders of aluminum and silica glass were mixed and heated in a corundum crucible for 6 hours at 1100°C in air. The X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the composite material thus synthesized contains a high concentration of AlN particles (about 33 vol. %) embedded in an aluminum silicon alloy. A small amount of Al₂O₃ particles (about 8 vol. %) was also found. The method proposed can also be used for synthesis of aluminum matrix composite materials containing, besides AlN, other ceramic reinforcement phases. The properties of these composite materials can be tailored by choosing an appropriate composition of the initial powder mixture for aluminothermic synthesis.

Many optimization problems can be imported to processing of thin matrices about very large sizes. The traditional methods of operation on the matrices about so it is the large sizes time-consuming therefore the guaranteeing the larger efficiency solutions be in the demand and the shorter time of processing. This paper presented the author's method of utilization in improvement of efficiency the compression of processing of sparse matrix in presented study was introduced.

The paper presents advances in the range of brake discs and engine pistons production using metal matrix composites and identifies their advantages in comparison to materials traditionally applied. The wear characteristics in the case of brake discs and thermal shock resistance in the case of pistons were determined. The wear was assessed by measurements of friction coefficients in different temperatures. The thermal shock resistance was described as the crack length formed during the tests. The image analysis was used in the quantitative microstructure assessments for determination of synthetic geometrical parameter correlated with composites properties. The two synthetic geometrical variables have been proposed in the microstructure description of a new generation brake discs and pistons. The selected relationships between functional properties and composite microstructure are presented. It was shown that a life of brake discs made from A359 aluminum alloy reinforced by SiC precipitates is much longer in comparison to traditional, made from cast iron. It was ascertained also that the best thermal shock resistance was obtained in the case of AK12 composite with Al2O3 short fibers in cast heat treated. The results may be treated as the base for the recommendations of tested metal matrix composites for applicability in selected vehicle parts and subsets producing.

Capture fisheries production has increased sharply, and its contribution to economic growth of the region and welfare of the people in Akwa Ibom State have been quite significant. Up to now, micro-analyses of artisanal and capture fisheries, especially catfish (Clarias gariepinus) have often been carried out. Nevertheless, the competitiveness analysis of catfish capture is still limited; also, there is lack of development policies for capture and artisanal fisheries based on economic analyses. Therefore, this paper aims to come up with economic policies supporting the development of artisanal and capture fisheries in Akwa Ibom State. Data was collected in Akwa Ibom State. The types of data used include catfish value chain data, and farmers’ costs and incomes. The Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM) method was used to reach the objective of this study. The study found that the Private Cost Ratio (PCR) was 0.61 for producers, 0.96 for processors and 0.59 for marketers which means that the production of agricultural goods was profitable for the farmers. In turn, the Domestic Resources Cost Ratio (DRC) was 0.17 for producers, 0.65 for processors and 0.34 for marketers, meaning that the value of domestic resources used in production is lower than the value of foreign exchange earned or saved; this indicates that the industry might have a comparative advantage. Research implications showed that the catfish fisheries business generated economic and financial benefits for local fishermen. It would be more advantageous to be able to compete with catfish from other regions as well as other countries, particularly if supported by government policies for a consistent and sustainable stabilization of input prices and production output of catfish fisheries.

Although there is a disagreement about how Putnam’s argument should be understood, it is possible to point to several elements of this argument which are common for many different reconstructions. In this paper I have tried to show that not all of them are unquestionable. And I want to propose a new way in which self-refutation of statement „I am a brain in a vat” may be understood. A form of this reconstruction is neutral for controversy about metaphysical realism or skepticism – it differs from the argument suggested by Putnam’s text. But I think that a story about envatted brains is simply a story about a language.

Opis:

In [C] and [F1] the connection matrix theory for Morse decomposition is developed in the case of continuous dynamical systems. Our purpose is to study the case of discrete time dynamical systems. The connection matrices are matrices between the homology indices of the sets in the Morse decomposition. They provide information about the structure of the Morse decomposition; in particular, they give an algebraic condition for the existence of connecting orbit set between different Morse sets.

Opis:

The main objective of the present work was to determine the effect of powder composition on microstructure and properties of iron-base materials used as matrices in diamond impregnated tools. The Fe-Cu-Ni powders premixed and ball-milled for 30 hours, were used for the experiments. The influence of manufacturing process parameters on microstructure and mechanical properties of produced sinters was investigated. Sintering was done by hot-pressing technique in graphite mould. The powders were consolidated to a virtually pore-free condition during 3 minutes hold at 35 MPa and 900°C. Investigations of the sintered materials included: density, hardness, static tensile test and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Microstructural and fractographic observations were also made with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The obtained results indicate that the sintered parts have a high density, close to the theoretical value, good plasticity, relatively high hardness and yield strength, and are characterized by a coarse-grained microstructure.

In this article an explicit formula for eigenvalues of a 2-tridiagonal Toeplitz matrix can be derived on the basis of a certain relation between the determinant of this matrix and the determinant of a pertinent tridiagonal matrix. It can be pointed out that the problem is investigated without imposing any conditions on the elements of matrix.
