The predicted object distance on course Dc and the time interval to its occurrence Tc are sometimes used additional criteria for collision threat. They are calculated in some ARPAs as BCD - the bow crossing distance and BCT - the bow crossing time. The scope of this paper is aimed at the problem which although it can be and it is connected with collision avoidance manoeuvres, but it is rather reversed and can be applied for intentional approaches or in naval tactical manoeuvres - what own speed and/or course manoeuvre should be undertaken to achieve the required distance on course Dc and /or time to this distance Tc?

The paper presents uncertainty model of the original method based on optoelectronic measurements used for ship's safety maneuvering area determination. The method takes advantage of land borne laser rangefinder and encoder measurements. The dynamic model of the uniform current, as introduced in the previous paper of this volume, is assessed against a bit simpler approach called semi-dynamic one. In the latter, a ship is assumed to move in still water and the over ground movement is just computed after each iteration of the differential equations integration. The level of inaccuracy caused by the semi-dynamic method depends upon the manoeuvre type. Also, some aspects of ship berthing in the ahead uniform current are raised, and compared with different degrees of simplification as employed in the shiphandling practise while dealing with the current (referred to in general as the kinematic model).

Some essential aspects of mathematical modelling the uniform current dynamic impact on ship manoeuvring are discussed and assessed. a simulation of a pure drift, and such a drift coupled with a turning motion is next performed for a small tanker. The one-knot current gives rise to the maximum yaw velocity of order fifteen degrees per minute associated however with a relatively long response time.

Opis:
Paper discussed important factors affecting handling of ULCS (ultra large container ships) in Port of Gdańsk. In recent years more such vessels had been calling Gdańsk, including new generation of ULCs called Triple-E launched by Maersk. Studies conducted in Maritime University confirmed feasibility of safe handling of such large vessels but pointed to several factors needed to be taken under consideration to provide required safety level for ship handling operations. Author analysed factors responsible for safe handling ULCs in Gdańsk.
W artykule omówiono ważne czynniki wpływające na manewrowanie dużymi kontenerowcami w porcie gdańskim. W ostatnich latach coraz więcej takich statków zawijało do portu w Gdańsku, włączając w to nową generację ultra dużych kontenerowców typu Triple-E, zbudowaną dla firmy Maersk. Badania przeprowadzone na Uniwersytecie Morskim w Gdyni potwierdziły możliwość bezpiecznego manewrowania takimi statkami, ale wskazały na szereg czynników, które powinny być uwzględnione w celu zapewnienia odpowiedniego poziomu bezpieczeństwa operacjom manewrowania statkami. Autorzy przeanalizowali czynniki odpowiedzialne za bezpieczne manewrowanie dużymi kontenerowcami w porcie gdańskim.

Opis:
This article presents practical application of the probabilistic-fuzzy method for assessment of the safety of a ship manoeuvring in fairways. The method, based on the probabilistic risk analysis and elements of fuzzy logic, allows to account for a situation of threatened safety and a situation when a navigator intuitively thinks that the safety of manoeuvring ship is threatened. The probability of grounding of a ship manoeuvring in a fairway bend was determined. Then, with the use of experts’ knowledge and tools of fuzzy logic the probability of a dangerous situation was determined. Two different approaches, discussed in Part 1, have been applied for the determination of the probability. The results were compared.

The ship manoeuvring dynamics consists of surge, sway, and yaw differential equations (coupled mutually with each other). a basic principle of the proposed manoeuvring model identification algorithm is that both sway and yaw equations may directly assimilate, instead of the motions derived from other one or two equations, the corresponding sea trial data. Under such conditions, the evaluated hull and rudder sub-models are more adequate and less ambiguous. An approach has been made also to compose the hull hydrodynamics from turning tests, while z-tests refine the rudder related model parameters. The obtained final manoeuvring prediction is excellent.
