Opis:: The subject of the article is an analysis of the lyrics of 13 Polish songs sung in the village of Muravanaya Ashmyanka. A linguistic analysis of the transcribed lyrics of the songs based on the author’s personal recordings, conducted according to dialectological publications, and carried out on the phonetic, morphological, syntactic, and lexical levels, revealed numerous clear influences of the East Slavic languages. Among the many deviations from the general Polish language, and the multitude of dialectal features characteristic of the Northern Borderlands dialect, the following may be concluded: asynchronous pronunciation of nasal vowels at the final position and before fricative consonants, vowel reduction, the pronunciation of the dental consonant ł, the occurrence of the prepositional construction instead of the general Polish synthetic one, preservation of the voiced quality of the consonant w after voiceless consonants, soft pronunciation of l, change of grammatical gender, voiced pronunciation of the consonanth. The lyrics of the collected and transcribed songs are an example of valuable linguistic material fading into oblivion with the passage of time.

Opis:: The paper is devoted to the specificities of the acquisition of L2 Polish by speakers of a closely related language (East Slavic one), with specific regard to the language-teaching consequences of said proximity. After an introduction to the current historical and sociolinguistic context of the East Slavic immigration to Poland, the data presents the concept of “intercomprehension”. Its impact on the acquisition of L2 Polish is illustrated by the use of empirical data collected by the author’s research team. The article is concluded by means of a reflection on the value of multilingualism in the school system and the skills required of Polish teachers in the present historical contingencies. It is argued in particular that due to the great number of Ukrainian pupils enrolled in the Polish schools, it is advisable for Polish school teachers to have at least some knowledge of the native languages of these pupils, with the primary goal of improving communication in stressful situations and adequately interpret and correct their errors in L2 Polish.

Opis:: The following article discusses the linguistic features of legal Italian and the notion of Eurolect; the analysis is based on articles of the European Constitution. The information provided herein aims to demonstrate that legal Italian has a different set of qualities in comparison with those that apply to Eurolect. The author of the article describes the principal characteristics of the Italian language that is used in the institutions of the European Union, a language that is the result of translating the Community legislation, drafted primarily in English or French, and is different from the actual linguistic norms of Italian. It is grammatically correct, yet its quality is not satisfactory for a native speaker. This problem is called attrito linguistico and is a new term in Italian linguistics. Due to this problem, these texts are often criticised for being low-quality translations, but their quality is the result of requirements imposed on translators. The third part of this article then goes into detail about the main features of translated Italian texts and focuses on the analysis of some of the articles present in the European Constitution in order to elaborate on the choices made during the translation and to suggest further solutions.
Il presente articolo tratta delle principali differenze tra il linguaggio giuridico italiano e il linguaggio comunitario in base all’analisi di alcuni articoli della versione italiana della Costituzione europea. Tali differenze derivano dal fatto che il linguaggio comunitario è il risultato di un lavoro di traduzione in cui i testi di partenza sono redatti di solito in inglese o in francese, ma spesso il francese svolge la funzione di “lingua-ponte”. Le traduzioni comunitarie, malgrado siano grammaticalmente corrette, non soddisfano i native speaker. Questo fenomeno viene chiamato “attrito linguistico” e consiste nella capacità innata del parlante madrelingua di intuire immediatamente se il testo è il risultato di una traduzione o è un testo originale. Proprio per questo motivo i testi comunitari vengono accusati di essere delle traduzioni mal fatte, mentre la loro qualità deriva dai canoni ristretti imposti dalle istituzioni europee. La presente analisi, oltre a mostrare casi di attrito linguistico, ha come scopo suggerire soluzioni traduttive maggiormente adatte e vicine al linguaggio giuridico italiano.

Opis:: W artykule poddano analizie uwagi na temat kontaktów językowych zamieszczone w encyklopedii z połowy XVIII wieku, tj. w Nowych Atenach Benedykta Chmielowskiego. Wykazano, że Chmielowski wskazał: 1. Zewnątrzjęzykowe przyczyny kontaktów językowych, takie jak: a) ranga języków wchodzących ze sobą we wzajemne relacje i ich pozycja na świecie, b) moda językowa, c) rozwój nauki i techniki, d) konflikty militarne, e) kontakty gospodarcze, f) migracja ludności. 2. Wewnątrzjęzykowe przyczyny interferencji, takie jak: a) niewystarczalność języka, b) stylistyczna wartość wyrazów zapożyczanych. 3. Efekty kontaktów językowych: a) negatywne: degradacja niektórych języków etnicznych lub ich całkowity zanik, b) pozytywne: bogacenie leksykalnych zasobów języka-biorcy.
The article analyses remarks on the language contacts contained in an 18th-century encyclopedia Nowe Ateny authored by Benedykt Chmielowski. It has been proven that Chmielowski pointed to: 1. Extralinguistic causes of the language contacts, such as: a) the rank of languages that get into interaction and their position in the world, b) linguistic fashion, c) development of science and technology, d) military conflicts, e) economic contacts, f) migration of people. 2. Intralinguistic causes of interference, such as: a) language insufficiency, b) stylistic value of loan words. 3. Effects of linguistic contacts: a) negative: degradation of some ethnic languages, b) positive: enrichment of the lexical stock of the recipient language.

Opis:: Lexical Borrowings in Dialectal Phraseology of the Chernivtsi Region: The Diachronic AspectThis article is devoted to the analysis of dialectal phraseological units with foreign components (Romanian, German, Polish, Hebrew, Hungarian) recorded in the dictionary entitled “Phraseologisms and Paroemias of the Chernivtsi Region” (Фразеологізми та паремії Чернівеччини, 2017) from the point of view of their number, presence in modern local dialect and membership in certain semantic groups. It was established that borrowed elements referring to household items and those that function as regional synonyms of Ukrainian components in the structure of dialectal phraseological units are the most frequently used ones. The most frequent elements in the analysed linguistic material are groups of words borrowed from Romanian, German and Polish. The study material indicates the absence of complete correlation in the dynamics of borrowings on the lexical and phraseological levels: in most cases the componential composition of popular colloquial phraseology is subordinate to their emotional-evaluative and expressive functions.Zapożyczenia leksykalne w frazeologii dialektów obwodu czerniowieckiego: aspekt diachronicznyArtykuł poświęcony jest analizie frazeologicznych jednostek dialektalnych z komponentami obcojęzycznymi (rumuńskimi, niemieckimi, polskimi, hebrajskimi, węgierskimi) zarejestrowanych w Słowniku frazeologizmów i paremii obwodu czerniowieckiego (Фразеологізми та паремії Чернівеччини, 2017) z punktu widzenia ich frekwencji we współczesnym dialekcie oraz przynależności do pewnych grup semantycznych. Ustalono, że najczęściej we frazeologizmach dialektalnych zachowują się zapożyczone nazwy przedmiotów gospodarstwa domowego, jak również te, które są regionalnymi synonimami części składowych ukraińskich frazeologizmów. Najczęściej spotykanymi elementami analizowanego materiału językowego są grupy słów zapożyczonych z języka rumuńskiego, niemieckiego i polskiego. Zbadane materiały wskazują na brak pełnej korelacji w dynamice zapożyczania na poziomie leksykalnym i frazeologicznym: komponenty potocznej frazeologii ludowej zwykle są podporządkowane ich funkcjom emocjonalno-ewaluacyjnym i ekspresyjnym.

Opis:: Co-existence of languages in the area of the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the light of the works of Jan KarłowiczThe article discusses the issues of the co-existence of languages in the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the consequences of the phenomenon as documented in the works of Jan Karłowicz – the outstanding scholar of the second half of the nineteenth century, an expert and researcher of the “Lithuanian” version of Polish language. The article emphasizes the fact that the research on languages in the area of The Grand Duchy of Lithuania and results of their co-existence goes back to the second half of the nineteenth century and Jan Karłowicz was the pioneer of this research. He was the first to observe the following phenomena of their co-existence: interference; bilingualism and multilingualism; prioritization of co-existing languages with the unique role of the Polish language in focusing various functions in the history of The Grand Duchy of Lithuania; the diversity of Polish with sociolinguistic classification of its provincialisms and their division in the view of their origin; and the dangers to the Polish language in the period of Russification. Karłowicz struggled with the lack of terminology to describe the linguistic phenomena characteristic for the area. The article focuses on the classification of provincial qualities of the “Lithuanian” Polish language executed by Karłowicz in the social and ethnolinguistic area; and on the presentation of the phenomenon of linguistic interference visible in the provincial vocabulary in The Grand Duchy of Lithuania collected in “Dictionary of Polish dialects” by Karłowicz. Сосуществование языков на территории бывшего Великого княжества Литовского в свете произведений Яна КарловичаЦель данной статьи – показать сосуществование языков на землях бывшего Великого княжества Литовского (ВКЛ) и последствий этого явления, засвидетельствованных в работах Яна Карловича, видного ученого второй половины девятнадцатого века, знатока и исследователя „литовского” польского языка. Автор статьи указывает на то, что изучение языков в Великом княжестве Литовском, последствиям их сосуществования относятся ко второй половине девятнадцатого века, а их первым исследователем был Карлович. Им впервые были отмечены такие проявления этого сосуществования, как языковая интерференция, билингвизм и многоязычие, иерархия сосуществующих языков и диалектов. Выделена особая роль польского языка, объединившего целый ряд функций в истории ВКЛ, дифференциация внутри польского языка, социолингвистическая классификация его диалектизмов и их деление по происхождению, угрозы для польского языка в период сильной русификации. Особое внимание автор статьи сосредоточил на классификации провинциальных особенностей „литовского” польского языка, осуществлённой Карловичем в социальном и этнолингвистическом плане, а также на проявлениях интерференции в провинциальной лексике, ведущей своё происхождение из Великого княжества Литовского, собранной в „Словаре польских диалектов” Карловича.

Opis:: Као и за остале енклитике, и за распоређивање глаголских енклитика у српском језику постоје посебна позициона правила. Као најважније ограничење истиче се немогућност употребе енклитика у иницијалном положају, или иза везника и, а и ни. Ипак, у појединим дијалектима српског језика јављају се енклитике у иницијалном положају, када постају проклитике. У делубанатских и призренско‑тимочких говора проклитизација енклитика је позната особина, настала као резултат интерференције са суседним словенским и несловенским језицима. Увидом у грађу потврђује се и шири домет ове појаве, нпр. у косовско‑ресавском дијалекту, како на југу ареала, у северној Метохији, тако и на северу, у Браничевском округу. Проклитички употребљене енклитике су забележене и у говору источне Шумадије, као и у неким исељеничким српским говорима.
As for other enclitics, there are special positional rules for the arrangement of verb enclitics in the Serbian language. The most important limitation is the impossibility of using enclitics in the initial position, or after the conjunctions i, a and ni. However, in certain dialects of the Serbian language, enclitics appear in the initial position, and that is when they become proclitics. In some parts of Banat and Prizren‑Timok dialects, proclitication of enclitics is a well-known feature, resulting from interference with the neighbouring Slavic and non-Slavic languages. An inspection of dialect material confirms a wider scope of this phenomenon, e.g. in the Kosovo-Resava dialect, both in the south of the area, in northern Metohija, and in the north, in the Braničevo district. Proclitically used enclitics have also been recorded in the speech of Eastern Šumadija, as well as in some expatriate Serb dialects.
